Refugio Para el Amor #90 Fri 8/10/12 The Jury’s Still Out…Is It a Colombian Bug or a Torreslanda Bun That Gala’s Got in Her Oven?

Luci Comes to Terms with Being a Mama and Having Two Mamas
-Pretty in pink mama-to-be Luci, holds the little pink outfit her Mama Aurora picked out for her before she died. Luci asks her Ama Paz what her Mama Aurora was like (como era ella?). Was she as pretty as she is in the photo? Paz says she was even more so—she was lovely, with fair skin, black hair like Luci’s, and huge eyes like Luci’s. She was good and lovely, just like Luci. This makes Luci smile and she gives her Ama a big hug.
-Luci goes to her room and talks to God, while caressing her baby clothes. The baby news has sunk in and she’s both crying and smiling as she rubs her belly and says this baby is the product of her and Rod’s love—a love they never thought would end. She speaks to the baby directly, looking at the little pink top, saying s/he will be the proof of that great love which will never die within her. Her/his papa was the greatest gift life has given her. Her mushashon. She’s going to dedicate herself to her baby and making him/her happy and safe. The baby will be her life’s meaning (el motor de mi vida).
-Later, she sits in the living room looking content. Now that she’s come to terms with being knocked up, she’s floating on Cloud 9 and now has no problem with the workers Don Aquiles sent over, who are busily patching and painting the walls.
-That afternoon, Luci, Paz and Magda are on their way back from buying ceramics supplies, when Ariche comes to greet them. He left school as soon as he could to help them with the house. Luci tells him she has some good news to tell him (I’m thinking he’ll be an excellent babysitter), but heads to Don Serapio’s with Paz to call Lorenzo first. Luci is stand up impactada when Estelita tells her CL told her AND Mati that she might be pregnant. (That’s not exactly the way it happened…but ok.) Luci begs her not to tell Lorenzo (oops!), and to have him call them back. Estelita knows she messed up big time. Luci tells Paz that Mati knows, which surely means that Rosa knows! Duhn, duhn, duhn!!!

-When Luci and Paz return to the house, they find that Don Aquiles’ men have done a good job. The walls have been leveled and painted cream and a light terra cotta color. Atilio tells Luci that the job won’t be done until she’s happy with it, per Aquiles’ orders. Paz rewards the painters with apples. (Wow. Will they come paint my place? I’ve got some bananas and some cantelope…) Procopio comes to tell them that Don Serapio called and told him to be at their orders. He’s still recuperating and won’t be back for a while. Luci says he’s really missed in town, and Ariche says just like she was when she left. Nothing was the same without her. (Little charmer.) Copio starts poking around for gossip and asks if they’re fixing the house up for when her hubby comes back. Luci, Ariche, Paz and Magda immediately smell a rat, and give him major stink eyes.  Later Luci comments that Copio is surely spying for Aquiles again and they’ve got to make it clear to Aquiles to stay clear of her. Paz tells Luci to calm down, because everything she feels, the baby does too. Luci agrees, as she drafts some geometric designs, but soon everyone in the pueblo will know she split from Rod and that she’s expecting. Magda says, what of it?! The fact that she’ll be raising a child on her own should earn her MORE respect, not less.
-When Luci finally speaks with Lorenzo that evening, he admits he already knows the baby news from Estelita. He doesn’t know if he should be happy or sad. Luci says she was the same. It’s only just starting to sink in for her. (Me cayo los vientes.) She congratulates him on becoming an uncle. He’s happy about that, but he’s worried about her. She should be with Rod raising that baby together. (It’s the fretting genes he inherited from Paz.) Luci says she’s excited. She’s accepted she’s not with Rod and is ready to raise her baby on her own. “Well, if you’re happy…” Lorenzo says he will spoil (consentir) and care for his new niece/nephew.  Luci tells him they want him to come to the pueblo. Lor immediately goes back into worry mode. Is Aquiles bugging her again? Luci says she and Paz have to talk to him in person. He’s hopping on the first bus back tonight.
-Paz stays up late with Luci, who is busy finishing the geometric designs she will paint on the walls. She wants to make sure she’s there to make Luci any snacks she wants to fulfill any of her cravings (antojos). That’s what mamas are for—to pamper and care for their kids. Luci gives her Ama a hug.

Claudio Goes Into Papa Protector Mode
-In Claudio’s office, he chats with Norma about Luci and the baby. She is sure that he will want to spend even more time with Luci now. CL thinks that God/life is repaying him for all he’s suffered. At first all he wanted to do was unmask Max and distance him from his life. But now that Luci might be pregnant by Rod, this forever ties him to Max and Rosa—the people who have done them so much harm.  His grandchild is going to be a Torreslanda!  Norma wonders if they will actually be interested in getting to know the child. CL is more worried about what they might do, since Rosa is fiendish (desalmado).  “Do you think when she finds out she’ll want to harm Luciana?” (BINGO Norma!)  CL baits anvils by saying if Rosa even thinks about it, he’ll defend his daughter and grandchild with his LIFE! He’ll make sure that Rosa and Max pay for what they’ve done, sooner or later.
-Norma thinks CL should bring Luci to live with him in his house in order to protect her. CL totally wants this and already asked Luci, Paz and Magda. Luci isn’t up for it, and he doesn’t want to scare her by mentioning it would be to protect her. Norma thinks he ought to push it, in order to protect Luci and to make sure she has the best care possible during her pregnancy. (When can we get Norma and Pato together? I really like her.) CL will let Luci decide. If Luci doesn’t want to live with him, then he’ll just have to travel to Het Het more often than he had planned. He doesn’t know if Luci has told Rod yet, and he doesn’t want to butt into her biz by asking. But knowing Luci as he does, he doesn’t think she has. She’s still really hurt and wants to forget Rod. Norma gets it, but considering Luci will have a permanent reminder of Rod in the form of a blue eyed baby, she won’t be able to forget him. Plus, Rod is bound to find out eventually. “Well, let him and ALL the Torreslandas find out. Let them know that Luci isn’t alone!”
-Barrera joins CL and Norma, and congratulates CL on becoming a grandpa. CL wants to find out from Luci if she plans to tell Rod, because he doesn’t want to be caught by surprise by any Torreslanda dirty tricks. Now that CL knows who they really are, there’s no way for them to deceive and hoodwink him again. Barrera says CL needs to see the video from the German bank before he leaves for Het Het. Now he’ll know who supplanted/posed as him (suplantar) in the bank.

Pato and Aldo’s Awesome Misadventures in Empresas Torreslanda
-Aldo is sitting in the Torreslanda waiting area, innocently minding his own business, and not so innocently hacking into Max’s business accounts (Tio is doing quite well), when the reception phone rings. No one else is there so he answers and gets the call to duty. The cafeteria is down a bunch of workers—cooks and servers, and as Coordinator of General Services it’s Aldo’s job to fix it (as Oscar reminds him). How does he do that? He puts on a hair net and puts his shoulder to the wheel…er, his ladle to the pot. Luckily, Pato is on hand to supervise and makes sure Aldo does things like wash his hands first.
-Aldo takes to his new job quite well. The food he serves in based on his assessment of your needs, not what you asked for. A fat guy gets a healthy option and a lecture; a skinny guy gets a calorie rich lunch, all done in Aldo’s silly, charming style. This amuses Pato to no end as he watches from the sidelines.
-Aldo gets three unexpected patrons in his serving line. Vicky has come to have lunch with her papa Don Jerónimo. Max comes up right behind them to find out where the heck Pato has been. Max gives the side eye to Vicky; Vicky gives the side eye to Aldo; Aldo gives the side eye to Vicky; Pato gives the side eye to Max; Don Jero is clueless. He’s so clueless in fact, that he asks Max, in front of everyone, to allow these two crazy kids to date. All the side eyes start going crazy at this point.
-Pato *helpfully* points out to his father that there shouldn’t be a problem since Vicky isn’t an employee, and neither she nor Aldo are already dating someone else, right?...Under the deadly glare of Max, Vicky confirms that she does NOT have a relationship with anyone else; Aldo pipes up that he doesn’t either. Pato cheerfully encourages his papa to think about it. Max looks pissed and dangerous.
-Back in the main office suites, Pato and Max head for the elevators as Pato says he assumes Max has ended his affair with Vicky, right?... He thanks Max for ending the affair, for the sake of his mother and the family. Max looks pissed and pained, and but remains silent. In the cafeteria, Don Jero asks Vicky to forgive him for talking to Max about it, but he didn’t want trouble this time. Vicky goes to speak with Aldo and tells him Max will KILL them this time for sure. Aldo doesn’t see the problem, since Pato gave them his blessing and Tio Osito won’t be able to do anything. Don’t worry, be happy!

The Mad Mad World of Roselena Torreslanda
-Rosa does what all good Catholics do before going to see her spiritual advisor—she threatens her nana/housekeeper to keep her mouth shut, or else. She especially doesn’t want Mati to spill the beans about Luci’s pregnancy to Frigida because she knows Frigida blabs everything that happens in the house to Julie and Gala! (That Rosa really is smart. Crazy. But smart.)
-Rosa tells poor Padre Honesto that she feels a bit more tranquil now that CL knows the truth. Padre begs to differ. He sure as heck doesn’t feel more tranquil. (How can he, with this loca bugging him all the time?) He reminds her that CL can still have her crazy butt thrown in jail. Rosa says he has NO PROOF (uhm, I think the mere fact that Luci is ALIVE is proof), and the word of those lowly cemetery guys isn’t enough to sink her Royal Highness. It’s their word against hers. Padre points out that they’re actually telling the TRUTH.  Rosa doesn’t see what the big deal is. At the end of the day, CL and his daughter are together and that’s all he cares about. She doesn’t’ know why if she’s already confessed everything, she still can’t find peace. She might have to wait till the day she dies to find it. (Foreshadowing?)
-Padre says she ought to be thanking the good Lord that CL was in a generous mood with her, and didn’t have her ass thrown in jail. Rosa gets all huffy and says she’s got nada to thank God for, when Luci is knocked up!  Padre is shocked that Rod doesn’t know and that Rosa doesn’t think he needs to know. She also claims they can’t know for sure that the baby is Rod’s. (Oh please!) “I refuse to accept that that child is my grandchild! Luci is a tramp!”
-Padre uselessly tells her she’s making the same mistake as she did when she stole Luci from CL. Rosa doesn’t see things quite that way. No way will she let her son be with a woman who will never make him happy.  Padre can’t believe she would be so cruel/inhuman (inhumana) to her own son and deny him this happiness. Cold, blank stare from Rosa.

What the Kids Are Up To
-Lorenzo and Fabian are innocently selling tacos and flirting with pretty maids, when Boris huffs and puffs his way into Lor’s face and says he wants to make it clear that Hannah is HIS girlfriend. He then leaves before Lorenzo can respond, but Lorenzo tells Fab if Boris is looking for a fight (pleito), then he’ll find one!
-Boris has brought the fight back to the school and tells Hannah he doesn’t know why she had to invite Lorenzo into the house to deliver his tacos. Hannah is not going to accept his little jealousy act. She will keep seeing Lorenzo and being friends with him because he can tell her how Luci is. Well, Boris just hopes it’s good and clear for Lorenzo that they are novios!
-Lorenzo is eager to finish selling the tacos so that he can get home to speak with Luci and hear the pregnancy news from her. He thinks she might be feeling really down, given that she’s separated from her baby-daddy. Fabian thinks she’s happy with the baby news. They both imagine the joy of having a baby in the family and Paz’s happiness. One of the maids latches on to this. If Lor loves babies, she’s more than happy to give him a few. The boys blush.

El Inferno Continues to Cause Mama Drama
-Ofelia tells her mama Estelita that she’s getting desperate for work and the money she came back with is running out. She wants to contribute to the household expenses, doesn’t want to live off Estelita’s money, and doesn’t want to elbow in on their taco business. The only place Vio knows that has open positions is Inferno, where they’re always looking for more girls. Estelita says absolutely NOT!  Ofelia doesn’t see the problem. Work is work and she wants a steady income and wants to make sure Marianita has all she needs. After working in the States, no work scares her now.

Oscar Starts to Get a Better Idea of Just How Crazy the Torreslandas Really Are
-In his office, Rod goes over some accounts with Oscar since he wants everything in order before he goes to Canada. Rod’s worried about the CL case. Oscar assures him that they have a fabulous law firm (bufete) working on the case, plus himself. Rod admits that what’s really eating him is not the fraud case, but that that jerk is sniffing around Luci! “What’s bothering you? Think she’s already forgotten you Rod? You’re divorced. I know that look. Of course! You think that Luci and Linares have something going? Oh please! Haha!” Rod goes into one of his rants. He saw them together, even before the divorce. She hid the fact that they had a very close “friendship.” He’s probably the one who advised her to get a divorce. “Don’t say stupid things! CL is a gentleman who is much older than Luci! And anyway, you guys only just got divorced. That woman loves you, for Pete’s sake!" Rod says he wants to finish off/sink CL! “I detest that guy!!”  Oscar has had enough of this crazy talk. He leaves, reminding Rod that CL could be Luci’s father. (In a totally hypothetical way, not yet realizing how right he is.)
-Oscar joins the Torreslandas for the family lunch.  The first topic of conversation is Aldo, who isn’t there because he’s working (gasp!). Most think it’s about time Aldo earned some sweat equity; Connie is pleasantly surprised. “My Aldo?”  The next topic of conversation is why I love Pato. He tells everyone that Don Jero asked Max’s permission for Aldo and Vicky to become novios. Rosa is scandalized. She can’t believe the daughter of a mere porter would dare date HER nephew. She wants to know what Max thinks of this. “It’s their problem, not mine.”  She doesn’t understand her family who all seem to love getting involved with the servants! Connie doesn’t see the problem, and Pato tells his mother not to look down on people. “We’re all equal.”  Rosa’s response: “We are NOT all equal. There are cradles (rich folk) and shoe boxes (poor folk).”  Both Max and Pato look disgusted with her attitude.
-Later in the library, over drinks, Oscar brings up something that’s been bugging him to Max. He thinks it’s a lack of responsibility for Rod to be running off to the Canadian wilds at a time like this. He thinks his reasons for leaving have nothing to do with business. Max agrees, but Rod needs space to try to forget Luci. Well, Oscar is very concerned after the recent conversation he had with Rod. Rod HATES Linares, and not because of the fraud case. “That boy immaturely thinks that Linares and Luciana have a relationship. Can you believe it?!” Max admits that Rod also told him and he agrees it’s absurd. Oscar’s voice goes up a few pitches. “Of course it’s absurd. Linares could be her father!”  Max comes to sit directly in front of Oscar: “Linares IS Luciana’s father.”  The smile disappears from Oscar’s face.
-Oscar thinks Max is joking, but Max spills the beans about Luci being the baby Rosa stole and gave away. Oscar says that Linares has a major weapon to use against Max.  “Linares is my enemy, and if that weren’t enough, Rosa has done him major damage by giving away his daughter and leading him to believe she was dead.” Oscar, ever rational, thinks Rosa must have had her reasons, right? Max says only Rosa knows those wacky reasons.  Oscar says it’s Max’s responsibility to speak to Rod, and tell him the truth about Luci and CL. That way Rod will stop thinking this foolishness and he and Luci will have a chance to reconcile.  Nope. No can do Oscar. The kiddies don’t know their mom is a baby stealing psycho and Max is not about to burst their bubbles. Oscar says they’ll find out eventually, so why delay? Max says it’s complicated. He’s got to choose between the happiness of Rod vs. the stability of the whole family.
-Oscar gets a call from his contact—he got his hands on a copy of the bank video CL is about to receive. Max wants to see it immediately! Later, in their respective offices, Team Max (Max and Oscar) and Team Claudio (Claudio, Barrera and Norma) put the dvd of the bank video into their computers to see what it holds…

Like a (Dumb) Moth to a Flame…Rod Falls Right Back into Gala’s Cold Clutches
-At Empresas Torreslanda, the guys are wrapping up a meeting and agreeing on final preparations for Rod to go to Canada. Rod gets a text from Gala to please call her (me marcas por fa) and looks uncertain and guilty. (Normal for him.) He calls her.
-Gala asks Rod for a little, itty, bitty favor. She wants him to accompany her to some big event that night, they can even go in separate cars. Rod falls, hook, line and sinker. He will go with her AND he’ll pick her up. “Vas a volver a caer Rodrigo.”  (You will fall again Rod.) She later berates her assistant to find her another invitation to the event she just convinced Rod to go to and makes some calls to secure the invitation.
-Perfectly mirroring the statue of The Thinker sitting on Rod’s office coffee table, Max asks his son why he really wants to go to Canada. Is it because of Luci? “You’re already divorced, so why do you want to run and hide (huir)?”  Rod says he just wants to put more distance between (tierra de por medio) himself and the situation. Max says he supported him in his marriage to Luci; he didn’t agree with him about the divorce, but he still supported him; but he thinks Rod may have jumped the gun too quickly (precipitarse) on that.  Rod channels his mama, denies it and says it was for the best. (Does he really believe his own words?) “Then why did you go to her town to see her? Only to acknowledge that you made a mistake? Or to try to recover your relationship with Luci?” Rod really starts channeling his crazy mama by turning into a jealous Hulk and raving about Luci having a relationship with CL, their worst enemy, and never telling him! Max is speechless.
-That night on the movie premier red carpet, Gala and Rod avoid answering the reconciliation questions coming from the paparazzi taking their pics. Gala lays it on thick by thanking Rod for coming with her. They get champagne and appetizers and make small talk. They toast to their friendship. As soon as Gala takes a sniff of her appetizer, she gags and gets nauseous. Uh oh!!!

Avances: Gala finds out from the doctor that she IS indeed pregnant. She tells Julie this will tie Rod to her FOREVER. Rosa tells Gala and Julie that Luci also has a bun in the oven, so Gala better get Rod down the aisle right away!

Ay, dios mio; another round of Duelling Pregnancies.

Max is starting to channel Roselena; this is very bad.

Oh, Vivi, marvelous, marvelous recap! One of your best, I have to say. Loved your lines, epecially about the painting of Paz's house and could they do yours for bananas and cantaloupe, lol. Also loved Aldo putting his shoulder to the wheel, er ladle to the port, but the best one was the eye squence- Max side eye to Vicky, Vicky side eye to Aldo, Aldo side eye to Vicky, Pato side eye to Max those were the best!

Aldo was cracking me up, calling the chef, my chef, lol. And his little advice and portions were great, too funny.

Luci should be worried that Rosa knows. Look what happened to Luci. I know that Paz, Magda and Claudio will do everything to protect Luci.

So Rosa already knows about Frigid being a gossip. I wonder if she knows Frigid is being paid money for info. Really Rosa should have threatened Frigid, not Mati. But Mati will do whatever her nina wants. Poor Padre Honesto, he will have issues, the poor Padre needs a break from the la loca Rosa revelations, that was defintely not in confession, what she told him. Also, one more thing about Rosa. At the lunch at home when she found out Aldo wants to date Vicky and she said those things about Vicky; There is a song I immediately thought of. Now the song really doesn't have a whole lot to do with the convo, but one line of the song does in reference to Rosa. The song is "At Seventeen" by Janis Ian, and the one line is "Pity please the ones who serve, they only get what they deserve". That line just popped in my head as I heard Rosa say what she said. I am so glad Max and Pato said something to her.

Poor Oscar, now he knows the truth about Luci too, but not Conny's involvement. It was so funny how before Max told him that Claudio is indeed Luci's Papa, that Oscar said that Claudio could be her papa.

Now Rod is in running away mode. He needs to face himself, cause he is so not over Luci. I don't think he ever will be. Luci ran away too, but with Rosa lurking who could blame Luci? Rod has no such excuse. Well, except for maybe Gagme, who seems to be insinuatating herself every where he is.

Oh, Noes I hated the advances. So Rosa tells Julie and Gala that Luci is pregnant too. How horrible. She is so going to push Rod right up to that altar. He will submit like the ninny he is.

Oh, ONE MORE THING about Rosa, sorry. I was yelling at the tv when she told the Padre that Luci is a tramp. She was playing on that playground in her mind again just sayin'.

Loving Pato this epi. Loved how he kept Aldo in line, and had a good time doing it too. It was too cute.

Vivi, thank you for the Friday Special Recap of this TN.

Aldo was a Hoot in the food serving line. He has missed his calling. He could be the next health guru.

Vicky need to get a clue and move on with her life. Max is never going to marry her.

Well, darn, the she-devil is pregnant, this does not bode well. I am sure Nimrod will be forced by the families to marry the witch. Nimrod, the next 9 month should be really fun for you - not!

Why in the world does Padre H listen to Rosa's drivel?

It looks like Paz's house has a Great Room, which is combination studio, kitchen, etc. I like the new colors.

Rosemary Primera

Hey Urban and Madelaine- Thanks for the early comments. Yes, that last scene and the previews were worrying. Rod's life just got a LOT more complicated, and he's right where Gala, Rosa and Julie want him.

Mads- I don't know the song, but Rosa certainly has no respect for the "servants." Thank goodness none of her kids picked up her snobby beliefs.

If I were Oscar, I'd be questioning if I want to be working for these people right about now. And he still believes Max is innocent of the fraud. What will he do when he finds out the truth about that?

Rosemary P.- I really don't know what Vicky ever expected out of her relationship with Max, even before he turned into a monster. He never said he loved her. He never said anything about leaving his wife. In fact, I think he made it very clear that he did not want anything threatening his home life. She has gotten herself into a royal mess with a very bad man. Poor silly girl. I do feel sorry for her.

Vivi,

Yes, Vicky has gotten herself into a fine mess with Max. But don't all sweet young things go into these relationships thinking they will be different and the older guy will leave his family?

How did Max and Rosa raise Pato and Jana to be such great kids? The jury is still out on Nimrod.

I don't think Oscar will be too happy with Connie when he finds out she knew about Rosa and her evil deeds. I hope this doesn't derail their romance.

RP

Thank you for the excellent recap, Vivi!
So, Rosa's perception of class distinction determines her definition of tramp: a peasant woman, impregnated by a wealthy, well-educated man on her wedding night. This definition does not include a fortune-seeking conniver who uses sex to manipulate a wealthy, well-educated man. Nor does it include an immature, lust-driven, wealthy, well-educated man who uses sex with a fortune-seeking conniver to vent his frustration. Hmmmm.
Note to Rod - Buy condoms; you can afford them.

I recall that in some previous discussion on this forum someone pointed out that condoms are frequently distributed free and Rod certainly can afford coverage for his rod. Where are the brain cells here?

Something else has been bothering me for ages and that's why are so many novela heroines so willing to be unwed mothers? Is that because of the high number of single mothers in Mexico or is it a cause?

Just a treat Vivi, starting with the title which was funny and spot on! Lots of really helpful embedded vocabulary in this one, my favorite being "desalmado" (fiendish) and the best line:

"(fretting genes he[Lorenzo] inherited from Paz)"

favorite description of scene: all those side-long glances from Max, Aldo, Vicky and clueless Jeronimo in the cafeteria line.

Aldo sometimes reminds me of Joey from Friends, especially with his cavalier attitude towards hygiene. (Joey used to lick the utensils clean and put 'em back in the drawer. I'm sure that would be Aldo's method also if he were in charge of the kitchen at home!)

Just a marvelous job pinch-hitting for Marta.

So depressed seeing where this is going, but of course we knew, going in, that we would have to suffer for months and months before a grande finale Happy Ending.

Great Vivi - this episode sure had some interesting little new plot points surface. Love the fun you seemed to have getting it all down.

Cracked up that Luci immediately deduced that if Mati knew about her bun in the oven, she must have immediately blabbed to Rosa. Guess Mati isn't on her "to be trusted" list. Interesting.

My "Apple meet tree" today: Dumbass and his loco mama. Have to keep reminding myself this is our hero. In reality, his jealousy and his tendency to irrational thinking wouldn't just go Poof at finding his true love. Luci would be in for a roller coaster life with this idiot. But this isn't reality, it's a TN so we're suppose to buy he can be like this now and instantly fine at some point in time.

I think Max spent most of this episode looking at people like they were nuts, and unfortunately most of them were his family. And serves Max right with Vic, though goofy Aldo just doesn't impress as someone you would endorce as a future boyfriend. Have to say though, Aldo may have found his calling. So fetching in his hair net. (NOT)

Why why why is Pato the one with all the brains, personality and is a looker to boot and is just the second fiddle? Driving me crazy. Every episode I love him more.

Hannah--please take note. Boris=loser. Ditch now.

Anyone else thinking that when Oscar finds out that Connie knew what Rosa had done that the writers will use that to drive a wedge between them? Argh!! But I guess noone can be truly happy until Ultimate Episodes or the Gran Finale.

Gagme preggers. Oh the gene pool for that little one boggles the mind, bless it's little heart. And of course, predictable TN plot, Dumbass will be forced to marry her "for the family" to prevent scandal. And why am I feeling like, GOOD! Jerk deserves every moment married to her and dealing with his new mother-in-law. So much for rooting for the main couple huh?

How tacky was it for Gagme to announce their reconciliation to the press? Knowing Roselena that should put her on the Merde List because of the negative attention, but she is living in the Twilight Zone.

However, it will make Gagme's final humiliation all the worse.

Vivi your recaps get better and better.

This temper of Rod's is getting more irrational. Oscar noticed. Alerted Max and now Max has seen it. Rosa has stated, "you don't know what I am capable of" but now the question pops in my mind, what is Rod capable of? He is right up there with Max and Rosa. Maybe if Gala sees this jealous rage and Rod turning into the Hulk, she might want to be a single mom too. Luci, you can do a lot better than ab boy.

Aldo and Pato were pure gold in the server scene and Archie is still the man.

Can someone explain, how Gala got pregnant on the 3rd day? It's been 2 days since she slept with Rodrigo. It took me 6 weeks to find out I was pregnant. Dies anyone know if she slept with anyone else. I know something happens because she does not gave a baby.

Odie- It's now been more like five days since Rod and Gala did the deed. No explanation for this other than in tns, galan sperm always works fast. Gala has never been shown to have another lover. She is soley focused on Rod- so this bebe is his and he has two baby-mamas. Poor idiot.

Wow! TN galans have super-fast sperm! If it were an Olympic sport, Rod would get the gold!
Btw, buena suerte to Mexico in the futbol gold-medal match against Brazil!

RP- Yes, I think Oscar will be shocked and disappointed to find out that Connie has been Rosa’s accomplice in this whole baby-napping thing all these years. I hope it doesn’t derail them too. But since Oscar is himself not running to the police with the story, he can’t be too hard on Connie for her loyalty. Although I guess Max told Oscar in his capacity as a lawyer, so Oscar would be unlikely to tell the police.

Sally- Yes, Rosa has her own unique definition of a tramp. You’re one when it suits her. I seem to remember her implying Julie was a tramp early on, but now that she’s her ally, there’s no more talk of that. At that time Gala was not a suitable wife for Rod because she is a divorcee. Of course not with the threat of Luci, all those reservations have gone out the window.

Urban- That’s an interesting question about single moms and heroines easily accepting it (although I do think Luci took some time to accept it). I remember looking it up for another tn, and yes, despite the strong Catholic faith (or maybe because of it), babies out of wedlock is quite common in Mexico. I think in cultures and sub-cultures where this is common, and where babies are so loved, it’s more common for women not to freak out as much as they do in say a middle class, white American culture. There’s more of a feeling of, well, what’s done is done, let’s roll up our sleeves and make it work. For Luci living in a small town, there is more of a possibility of people gossiping about it. But thank goodness, the whole town also knows she was married to her baby-daddy. It’s a good thing that Het Het wedding was so public.

I'm totally disgusted with the advance showing that Gagme is preggers!!!!There's the end of the love story of the DEAD TO ME AND ST LUCI.I'm feeling nauseous too but definitely not pregnant. That spoiled my weekend. Why,why, why?I have to focus on more happier events. Oscar and Connie, beautiful love story and Aldo, love him!!!!My Aldo!!!As ever Vivi, thanks so much. I read all the exchanges and everyone is a joy. Btw, If The husband of Paz was a gardener to the TLs how did Paz meet Aurora that close? When Luci was given to her by the Evil not Loca Rosa, I thought she was dead already.

Vida- Paz did say that she didn’t have a lot of dealings with Aurora/didn’t know her well. I am assuming that Aurora was the kind of person who would take time to say hello and actually have a conversation with servants, instead of pretending they're not there, like Rosa, Gala and Julie. A servant can tell a lot about a person by the way they take the time to treat them like a human being, even if they don't have a lot of interaction with that person. My mom worked as a hotel maid for years, and remembers well the guests who treated her well, even in brief interactions.

Vida- Both Paz and Galdino were gardeners, so she was around working at the old TL house too.

Judy- Glad you enjoyed the recap. I laughed out loud during that cafeteria scene with Max, Aldo, Vicky, Pato and Jero. It was tense, but all those looks everyone was passing just cracked me up. Joey from Friends is a perfect comparison to Aldo. He takes nothing seriously, but his intentions are usually good. Pato yelling out “No, Aldo! No!” cracked me up too. I think Aldo has heard people yell that at him his entire life.

Daisynjay- Too funny about Mati not being on Luci’s trust list. She lived in that house. She knows where Mati’s true loyalties lie.

Urban- If Rod couldn’t predict that going to a big public event with Gala, where there are sure to be paps (many her friends) would result in “reconciliation” rumors, then he’s a bigger fool than I thought. He’s not even trying to fight falling back into Gala’s clutches. Friends? Oh, please!

Odie and Daisynjay- Rod’s irrational temper and jealousy also concern me. The only way I can see him really making a change is if he hits rock bottom and loses everything because of that temper and jealousy. Perhaps also seeing what monstrous crimes his mother committed because of her irrational jealousy and anger will be a wakeup call for him?

Going back to the single mother thing, I think it also helps that Luci feels loved and protected by two moms (Paz and Magda) and a dad. It was actually Paz and Magda who assured her she would be fine that they were with her every step of the way. So there's not fear there of being shunned by family, and not knowing how she's going to support her child, which is usually the biggest fear for young single moms.

Vivi- I am with you about Luci and the pregnancy. Her two moms do love her so much and with Claudio's support she will never want for anything. Plus she is all about the work with her ceramics and she will do extremely well. Both her Moms will watch the baby anytime she needs to travel, or has to go somewhere without the baby. My question is though, what will Don A do when he finds out she is pregnant? I so hope he won't try to force her to marry him again. He is still carrying the torch for her, although I really liked how, when he was in the D.F., he actually listened to her and went on his way.

I think Don A is done with the schemeing evil phase and on to the goofy doofus phase. He's doing what he can to help them even if it's overbearing. He may think he has a chance with her but that's clearly not going to happen.

I think Vio had the best grasp on the whole pregnancy thing, looking very worried. She was even on board with Ofelia working on a taco franchise rather than Inferno. She deserves better than Marcial.

Pato got all the smarts in the family. He has everyone's number, from both his parents to Aldo's (loved his supervision, demanding that Aldo wash his hands and not taste the soup out of the ladel). He'll be key to fixing all this since no one else has a clue. Melissa might, but she's too busy crushing on CL to notice. Her graduation should provide interesting conflict.

What are the chances that Gala will carry the pregnancy to term (assuming it really is a pregnancy and not a tumor or some other trick by the writers)? Did she really tell the press that they were back together? I thought they asked and the question was ignored. Whatever. it'll still be enough for Luciana to see in some paper and get the wrong idea about.

Kelly

Kelly- We can always hold out hope that Gala's doc is mistaken, but...

Rod and Gala didn't comment to the press, but you can bet that "reconcilation" will be mentioned in the gossip rags with the photos of them together at the event. Gala knows what she's doing.

I agree with you about Don A. He will continue to be a pest, but I think he knows at this point that he can't bully Luci into marrying him. For one thing, she's got major legal backup in the form of Linares. And for another, his bullying didn't work last time, when Luci had nothing and no backup. She just refused to be bullied. Now all he can do is woo her, in his pushy fashion. I'm fine with that. Better a pest than a menace.

Vivi thanks so much for your recap and vocab. Your title was great - "Colombian bug" indeed.

Like you and daisynjay, I just love Pato more every episode! He's thoughtful, kind, gracious, has a great sense of humor, perceptive and handsome. Thank goodness he was supervising Also in the latter's foray into food services. Yes Claudio's assistant Norma would be a good match for him or possibly Ofelia.

It was funny and ironic that in attempts to calm Rod down Oscar kept telling him how stupid he was to be jealous of CL, he could be her father (ha), and you are divorced. And Rod's response was to try an impersonation of the incredible hulk. Though his marriage to Gala will be a form of penitence, he's going to have to mature an awful lot and get a brain.

Unfortunately Connie's knowledge of Rosa's crazy may challenge her relationship w/Oscar. And I hope Claudio's statement just may mean the hospital anvil not the death anvil.

Ok, while I know this would probably shorten the TN and destroy other potential plots, I grow tired of the good characters saintliness that actually puts them in further and increased danger. In this TN, Luci and CL wanting to spare the TL kids the truth about Mommy puts Luci, her baby, and unfortunately most likely Claudio is imminent danger. I know this same danger would most likely occur if Rosa's goes to the manicomio but at least she has escape from there and isn't strolling around free plotting serious harm and damage.

Thanks so much Vivi! I assumed desalmada mean soulless, as in des-alma. My dictionary says cruel, inhuman, heartless, conscienceless, soulless, unmerciful. All perfect descriptions of Loca Rosa.

How easily Rod falls. I'm amazed Gala didn't get married to him the first time - he's so easy to manipulate. Even his Dad and Oscar tell him to his face that his "suspicions" of Linares are ridiculous, but he latches on to them like a terrier. Overcompensating for not being able to handle Luci's rejection? Just like when he jumped in the sack with Gala for a little "revenge" sex? The guy is a walking disaster.

Hey Audrey- Yes, all of those are definitions for desalmado/a, including fiendish. It's a great word and describes Rosa perfectly in all its meanings.

You and Karen are so right about Rod latching on to his false belief about Luci and CL, despite the two men he most respects telling him otherwise. What's that about? I think you're on to something Audrey when you say it has to do with not being able to deal with Luci's rejection. Of course she can't be rejecting him because he's been a total a**hole. She's rejecting him because CL is influencing her. Like Luci doesn't know her own mind and have her own will.

Karen- If he had his way, CL would turn Rosa over to the police, like that. Paz even wanted to do this. It's Luci and Luci alone who doesn't want to hurt Hannah, Pato and Rod this way. I think the writers did a good job of setting this up to be realistic by having Luci become such good friends with the TL kids. She cares deeply for all of them, and vice versa. It's not an easy decision for her. I don't think it has so much to do with being saintly, just with being a true friend.

Exactly! I think that way it's not his fault, and he can blame someone else for his situation.

Vivi you are right Luci is being kind and wants to spare the feelings of her friends and hasn't been privy to seeing Rosa act completely crazy w/regard to her. It's just sad b/c since Rosa's family keeps covering up and enabling her, Luci's act of kindness will put her and possibly those she loves in grave danger (this is a guess but also a TN rule). And it seems several good characters make these type of honorable decisions that result in horrible consequences for themselves and those they love. While it creates drama, it often makes good characters seem incredibly naive and unaware of the depravity of their enemies.

Audrey/Vivi on Rod - not only can he continue to not examine his own behavior and blame others, he imagines Luci as either not having a mind of her own and easily gullible or someone who just goes from man-to-man. And how many times will he have to be told that CL could be/IS her father and stop being a fool? Man up take responsibility for being a jerk, take serious lesson from Oscar on how to woo a woman.

Amen Karen!

Vivi--Another superb job-well-done-in-a-pinch. You got some hi-notes and some low-notes to recap.

It's only Saturday afternoon and I have nothing to add to the wonderful comments so far. Well, maybe a few.

I only wish it were a Columbian Bug. But isn't it interesting that both pregnancies have been hearalded by reacting to an odor. Of course we can't expect Julie to look in Gala's eyes and be certain she's pregnant. At least both young ladies will have adequate pre-natal care.

I like that they are taking their time with Pato's rehabilitation--none of this getting the patient up after 24 hours and expect the patient to walk with only a doctor and a friend to hold up the patient; then declare the entire operation a failure.

Loved all the side glances. Poor Vicky, she's the one caught in the middle, make that caught in a triddle. Obvio Pato challenged his father in public and then was able to congratulate him for ending it with Vicky. So far so good.

UA--duelling pregnancies, good one.

Sally--Touche. You captured one of Rosa's class prejudices perfectly. I wonder where Aurora falls.

The upper classes are certainly onto birth control, but as I recall, neither Dimrod nor Gala was expecting to be carried away by that night. Rod was pretty rough, so it was more taking out his frustration over losing Luci than making love to Gala.

Have we been privy to which if any bc method Gala preferred? Obviously it worked 100% up to getting left at the civil wedding table. As to stopping in the middle for a reminder to practice safe sex, it probably would have been a)awkward, b)probably didn't think about it.

I can't remember if Gala's mental state during congress was a)an intentional pregnancy or b)intentional recuperation of her ex-partner.) Gala is someone who doesn't like to lose--anything, and if she can then stick it to Dimrod and drop him, she's won. Does she really want a)him or b)money and social position.
Anita

Anita- ITA about Pato's rehab. As much as we'd like to see him walking, I much prefer this realism. The young actor has been able to do so much with just his facial expressions alone.

As for Gala, what does she want? I don't think it's the money/status thing. That's Julie's motivator. She hasn't even said it's because she loves Rod. Have those words even passed her lips? No, it's about winning. She can't stand to lose, much less to a lowly chacha. She must win Rod back at all costs to show she is irresistable. I don't think she got pregnant on purpose. She really thought that just by giving Rod another taste of the candy he would forget all about Luci and come running back to her. Now that she knows that wasn't the case, I'm sure she'll take advantage of unexpected Plan B-- using a pregnancy to trap him.

Anita:

"Gala is someone who doesn't like to lose--anything, and if she can then stick it to Dimrod and drop him, she's won. Does she really want a)him or b)money and social position?"

I think she wants the whole enchilada.

RP

It's all about winning.

Gala should be well-incomed and she is in the public eye. She doesn't need the family fortune and she doesn't love Rod. She may even realize he doesn't love her. Which doesn't mean she doesn't want to make his life miserable.

Her Plan B could work because although Rod will not be inclined to marry her she knows Roselena will force him to.

Hello All!Great recap Vivi. A hearty thank you to JudyB,Marta and Madelaine,i missed your recaps and just got caught up. Max is no different from his crazy wife.He is also easily influenced by Ros.He knows the truth about CL but is willing to let Rod think otherwise. What family is he trying to protect? Ros been their mother is enough to destroy them.
Max himself is no prize. It's a wonder they turned out okay. At least two of them did. Gala truly is pathetic. what kind of obsession is this. Luci is right not to trust Mati. That woman just irritates me. She enables Ros,then worries. She knows Luci is hated and yet feels the need to tell Ros everything. What exactly does she think would happen? The double pregnancies can only bring trouble.
What's with all the red bracelets?
My daughter who is into bracelets noticed them. Is it fashion or religion?

Olive

Hey Olive- Yes, Max is letting himself be lead by Rosa's madness too. But he has always been about not rocking the boat, and the bombshell about Rosa's role in Luci losing her true identity would certainly rock and tip over the TL boat! He is way better at hiding his crazy in front of the kids than Rosa is. In fact, the kids are probably as normal as they are because of Max. It might actually be a bigger shock to them when they find out how treacherous/evil he is, versus them finding out how crazy their mama is. They already have some major hints about her craziness.

As for the red string and cloth bracelets so many young tn stars wear, yes, many of us have noticed it over the years. It's hard to believe that so many tn stars could be Kabala followers, but who knows. Red bracelets are a symbol of good luck (and warding off evil) all over the world, so it might also be something uniquely Mexican. I don't think we've ever been able to come up with an answer.

Vivi - thanks for a fun recap.

Poor NimRod. He's digging such a deep hole for himself that I'm feeling sorry for him.

A shame about Mati. She'd probably give her life to save her Rosa, but Rosa has such scorn for the lower classes.

Once Oscar finds out how criminal Max is, I'm wondering if he'll stay with the company. Oscar and Connie seem too grounded to let Rosa's crap screw up their relationship, but then Connie has been an enabler...

We've all noticed those red string bracelets Olive. In fact, a lot of Hollywood young stars where them as well. The bracelets are a relatively new to Kabbalahism a friend in NY told me who ears one, and when the likes of Madonna started wearing them I think that's when the fad started. You can buy them anywhere now it seems. In Kabbalah they are supposed to be protection against evil or the jealousy of others, but not everyone who follows the religion wears them.

The strong bracelet is also prevalent in other Eastern beliefs, both Hinduism and Buddhism using it in ceremonies or to be worn to exhbit certain attributes. I remember from studying Buddhism in a college course that the red bracelet means bravery and white denoted kindness or giving to a friend ( I use to wear a beautiful woven one a BF gave me for years back in the day--she had bought it in Japan). There are a few other strings colors, but don't remember what they mean.

Great recap, Vivi, wonderful fun, and thank you for the vocabulary.
This TN is light and easy to watch.
Rod is a dufus. Can't get why a hot rich chick like Gala needs to be pregnant to catch a guy who's a dufus. Or the question is why does she want him? Are there no other men in her world?

My head just can't put the personality of crazy Rosa into that marvelously gorgeous woman. It just doesn't compute.
Can someone remind me, why did Rosa give Aurora's baby away? I know her husband defrauded Claudio; there has to be a better reason; was it because she actually believed the baby belonged to Max?

Aldo and Pato were hysterically funny on the cafeteria line. I just love the Aldo character.

Emarie- It's hard to explain anything that Rosa does because she's crazy. But the short answer for why she stole Luci was because she was jealous of Aurora, whom everyone loved and admired, including Max. And yes, she somehow convinced herself that Max and Aurora were having an affair and that Luci was Max's. At the heart of her actions, however, was a sick form of jealousy and envy.

Max has his own reasons for framing Claudio, but I think the root is also envy and jealousy, as well as a desire to be in total control of things/people/his business. He didn't want to share the biz with Claudio and he wanted to be the number one boss.

Ok, just one more question, if Aurora was dying, why was Rosa jealous. Did she have anything to do with her death?

Aurora died of a heart problem. Probably made worse by the stress of her husband wrongly being jailed. Why would Rosa still be jealous as Aurora was dying? Because she's CRAZY, and because she thought the baby was Max's and she wanted to get rid of all traces of Max's "betrayal."

THanks so much for covering for me in this recap, Vivi! i have good news to report, all set in this new apt (still have to go through all my boxes but we are here!) and HAVE A DVDR to record Refugio and Abismo!! YAY!! now i can rewatch to get anything i missed... phew! will do tonight's recap.
