Refugio Para el Amor #123 Fri 9/28/12 Watch out Aldo and Vicky, Dr Lechter is on the loose... Rod wants to cut loose and escape his Dungeon but will the door remain open with Luci?

Lo refrito:
  • Revue of Max laughing at RE’s suggestion that his famous mistress ‘V’ is Violeta.
  • The real ‘V’ arrives with Aldo. They spot Max and RE. V wants to go greet them, Aldo’s idea is rather to disappear ASAP, about to ‘P’ his pants.
  • Ofelia tells Fabi about Lastra’s insisting in a relationship!! Fabi says Lastra is being seized by police. Ofelia scared out of sending the police to him. Fabi says careful.
  • At police, Marcial tells boss that Aldo could lead them to the owner of NFERNO.
  • ‘V’ makes smalltalk with RE as ‘buddy’. Max with a forced smile and gentleman-ism. ‘V’ tells them Aldo is her ‘boyfriend’. Max is less than amused but forces a smile.

Lo Nuevo:
Vio and Lore having tacos(YUM!)… Vio guesses right, Lore did not go with the Melissa party because Janah was not allowed to come along. Vio says can’t hide money or love. Lore has no choice, admits he likes Janah but he realizes Janah is too ‘high’ for him. Vio warns him, remember what happened to Luci with that TL family. Lore knows it’s no use having hopes.

At dinner party 1,
Rod is put on the spot by Connie to do the first toast. After normalizing his testosterone level, Rod toasts for Melissa ‘to fight for what you love, and to appreciate it when you have it, don’t allow anyone, anyone to get in the way and take away your happiness.’ Luci is smiles with Pato, helps him sip the wine, Rod watches a bit disconcerted.

Back to the Sr TL dinner party 2,
Max asks Aldo why did not go with Melissa’s party. Aldo says already had a commitment with ‘V’. RE says ‘V’ and Aldo surely want to sit alone to ‘talk’. ‘V’ uses that to really rub it into RE, even tells RE in front of Max that with Aldo she feels more ‘fulfilled/woman/happy than ever before… you know what I mean, right?’…
Max is biting his teeth, RE and Aldo can’t hide a bit of fear even after delivering the blow.

Back to DP1,
Melissa dedicates a copy of her thesis to Claudio with a moving dedication. He has been a lesson for her of honesty and a man who is not shy of sharing what he is and what he knows… CL says it has been an honor. He toasts for her. Rod keeps watching Luci/Pato with an angst face. Luci looks at Rod, Pato looks at both with concerned look.

At Het Het,
Teofilo visits Procopio at funeral home. Teo not happy with arrangement of alternating night shifts. Teofilo still scared of the ‘ghost’. Procopio not so convinced. Teo tells him they say it carries a ‘garden pick’ and drags one foot. Procopio kicks him out with the Aquiles yell ‘Errrriah!!!’ (LOL!) Procopio starts eating some bread, has a plate on desk.

At DP 2,
RE looks over her shoulder to Aldo/V’s table (of course she is outraged), turns to Max, ‘look at your nephew!, SO happy dating a ‘manicurist’ and enjoying it!. Max takes a hard bite off a biscuit/roll, probably hoping the biscuit could be Vicky’s tongue.
At another table, Aldo and V are commenting Max must be having internal combustion or at least an indigestion for the anger. Vicky says good! So he can feel the humilliations I had to go through. If he does not give her lots of moolah for her estetica, she won’t go back with him. Aldo says Max will look for V in no time. V doubts it, says RE is very pretty, gorgeous eyes. Aldo says hers are great too. Uncle will be at your door sooner than you think.
Back to TL table, RE says V is vulgar, ordinary. RE reminds Max she had heard V was dating a much older, powerful man. And look at her. Showing off! Can’t imagine if that powerful man finds out about Aldo, his life could be in danger. Max says ‘surely’, with a smirk, looking at Vicky and Aldo as if he means to fulfill that prophecy.

Back to DP 1.
Oscar asks Connie about Aldo. Had a date with girlfriend. Oscar not too hopeful about Aldo. Connie says Aldo is like that. Probably got through high school by pitching himself well to the teacher. She is worried about him not finishing college. Oscar offers to mentor him. Connie is very thankful. Says Aldo wants to follow his uncle’s footsteps. Oscar will use that inspiration.

Back to DP 2,
Max wants RE to stop criticizing Aldo/V and others for what they do/are.
RE: You are not exactly free of sin, dating a ho yourself. But your standards are higher than a vulgar woman like Vicky. You should worry about your nephew’s safety, Vicky’s other man could put Aldo in danger. You are losing power, Max. You asked Aldo to stay with Melissa but he didn’t. And right now Rod, Pato and even your inconditional Oscar are enjoying a nice evening with your enemy CL.’ (RE is done spreading venom/amu, ready to leave)
Max keeps sending laser daggers to Vicky, making her nervous, she makes Aldo nervous.

At TL manor,
Janah and Mati are chatting in Janah’s room. Janah ‘pages’ Frigida to come get the tray… Janah asks Mati if RE has been so prejudiced on social classes since she was little. Mati asks why ask. Janah ends up admitting Lore is nice… VERY nice, I like him… a little bit! (LOL!) Frigida has come to the door in time to hear this very last juicy piece of gossip.

Back to DP 1
They are also talking Lorenzo. Pato says he will go far, has the drive to get what he wants. Luci says he wants to do it alone, not with her help. Pato says surely he will get it. Rod jumps in and says Luci is same, always wanting to help others, even now. Pato says she always has (even before she had many resources). Luci cuts that line of convo saying Aldo is Lore and Fabi’s associate, he wants them to start a taco place. Connie and Oscar surprised.

Back to V and Aldo’s table…
Aldo wants V to tell him why she says Max is really capable of violence. She tells him about the time Aldo took her to NFERNO, next day Max took her to a far away place in the woods, put something in her drink and left. When she woke up she was cuffed to the bed. She was scared she was left to die there but many hours later Max came back saying it was a game, like life itself. That Max told her he had done it for her to see what he was capable of. Aldo gets really nervous, gobbles his wine, maybe regrets playing along with Vicky on her script with RE/Max.

Back to DP 1:
they are still talking about Aldo’s drive for future… CL says you always try and associations are good in the beginning, but sometimes your associations could lead you to failure as in my case.  Oscar immediately changes the subject. Says Violeta is really nice. Luci says yes she has been her friend for many years. She came to city many years ago from SFEA. Connie asks what she works at. Luci finds herself at a bind, a bind Rod jumps in to help her out of, saying she was waitress and very good singer at a bar(very generic). Luci gives him a thankful stare. CL says now Vio will help Luci until she returns back to SFEA. Melissa says Pato used to sing at the family gatherings. Pato says ‘who, me?’… finally admits to it. Luci says he surely sings well. Pato turns to her ‘te canto!’ everyone freezes, Rod stares. Luci feels awckward: ‘aq…ui?’. Pato smiles/giggles ‘no, better some other day. Don’t want to steal the camera (spotlight). Tonight belongs to Melissa.’. Rod continues to stare, sad.

At Het Het,
Procopio has fallen asleep at desk. Door opens… and a shadow very similar to what the Hunchback of NotreDame carring a garden pick on shoulder is seen walking over and reaching for something.

Back to DP 1
Everyone is heading home. They all want the enjoyable evening to happen again. Luci says goodbye to Pato, will see you at office tomorrow. She again finds herself standing in front of Rod, him saying ‘Luciana!’,(these two are playing game of how close can you be nose to nose, chin to chin without really touching, you could tell they both would rather be kissing). Luci heads out. Rod is breathing hard…

Back at Janah’s room…
Janah tells Mati ‘was just kiddin’. Mati warns her not to repeat with Lore the story that this house had with Luci. Just focus on your studies. Janah tells Mati she broke up with Boris for Lore. Frigida comes in, then argues with Mati about taking down the tray. Mati warns Janah that Frigida heard them and will tell RE. If you really like Lore, keep him far away from here and from you, for your own good and his.

At Het Het Procopio wakes up. Gets scared when sees door is open, goes to close it. Then sees the empty plate and gets confused, his bread is gone.

At ‘The Dungeon in the Sky(Thanks, Anita!),
Rod is struggling with his desire to call Luci. Breathing even harder than when he had her standing in his face at restaurant. His ‘love’ wins and he calls Luci.  She takes the phone but does not say anything when she realizes it is Rod. ‘Don’t hang up. If you don’t want to talk, don’t. Just listen. I feel so sad. I feel so bad with you, for allowing them to separate us. I don’t know what happened. For having failed once, do I have to pay for that error the rest of my life…’ (Gala rips the phone off his hand and is yelling so loud Luci is hearing everything as if Gala had a mike on. ‘What error, Rod?? Let go of me! I can’t believe you are such cynic that you betray me in my own house!! With that Domestica!! I warn you! If something happens to me and my child it will be your fault and the fault of la Domestica esa!! (shut up!! I can’t stand you!!) Neither can I!! know what?? I am leaving because I don’t want to listen to you!! I am fed up with everything!! I hope to die myself and your child too!! And you will be the only one to blame!!’ (she leaves in a huff, no purse, no keys, nothing!!) Rod grabs the phone but Luci hangs up on him. Rod runs after Gala. She takes off in the car.

At TL manor,
Aldo arrives. Max welcomes him with a choke hold from behind ‘you think you are so smart, no?? Aldito…’ Aldo looks really worried he took his last breath. Connie comes to save Aldito. Max says ‘I can stand everything EXCEPT betrayal!’ and leaves. Connie demands Aldo tell her what betrayal Max was talking about. Aldo nervously says it is about him socializing with Claudio. Max is feeling betrayed by both Melissa and I. Connie says don’t provoke Max. Aldo agrees will have to stop socializing with Linares. But I am not a traitor as my uncle says.

At Luci’s hotel,
Vio arrives, Luci so happy to see her. Tells her about Rod’s call. Vio says Rod has to leave Gala, she is crazy! Luci says Gala is having his son. Vio says yeah but she is crazy and is harassing him and you constantly. Luci says Rod has to stop stalking ME! VIo has to agree with that too. Vio tells Luci what Gala does is not her fault. That woman gets like that just because she knows Luci exists. You have enough problems of your own to get anguished for ‘esa’.

Gala’s loft,
Rod comes to see if Gala is there. Julie bashes at Rod for Gala’s behavior. Where could she be? I don’t know, me either!... Julie keeps bashing him that his wife is his responsibility. My daughter is out on the street and you ruined my night sleep! If something happens to her or the baby, you will be to blame. (ok I am getting tired of this line, could we find an abbreviation for it? Like ‘MeOrBabyHurtYourFault’ and we will all know what that means. Julie sends him back to the apt in case Gala returns.
He returns but no Gala. Worries about her.
Later he calls Julie asking for her, Julie yells at him that he and Gala better stop behaving like shallow headed teenagers. They are man and wife, can you behave as such? (Julie hangs up, says now Gala is going too far, didn’t even tell me ahead) Rod at his gym throwing things around.

At a bar,
Gala is drinking her butt off. Gala remembers Rod’s speech at their original engagement party. When Rod seemed so eager to marry her and be with her for life… then remembers when she told him she was expecting his child, and when he yelled at her he wanted to divorce her. She talks to herself that she will never give him the divorce. Since she has no money or purse, she pays with her earrings. Waiter concerned for her, does not want her to drive in her ‘estado’. She ironically states ‘noone cares about my ‘estado’. She leaves on foot, although barely able to stand.

At ‘The Dungeon in the Sky
Gala arrives escorted by police. Rod bashes Gala a bit about her drunken state. Rod says going to call Julieta.. Gala responds ‘call Julieta, Romeo!... but know what? They are dead already! JAJAJA!!... ‘ and drops on bed… Rod calls Julie to let her know Gala is home and is ok, not to worry.
Rod tucks in Gala and then looks up like not happy at the vision of the future in his head.

Next morning at TL offices, in Rod’s office
Pato trying to talk to Rod… Rod’s body is there, but his mind is in another galaxy…
Pato: Rodrigo!
Rod: I asked Gala for divorce. (Pato is taken aback) Cant’ stand her, she can’t stand me. You can’t imagine what intimacy is like.
Pato: and that is new for you?
Rod: yes, I knew it would be difficult but never imagined how it would be. Our marriage was a contract and I had planned to live it that way, but Gala is truly impossible to live with.
Pato: What does Gala say?
Rod: You can imagine, she would rather die than give me the divorce.
Pato: What do you want divorce her for?
Rod: To end this disaster of a relationship.
Pato: To get back with Luci? You think she will greet you with open arms after all that happened?
Rod: No, one thing is to go on interacting with Gala, for my son and for the company, but it is not the same that I continue bound to a woman like Gala.
Pato: and you think that would be a solution? IF you divorce Gala, you will push Luci further away. Luci will never accept you getting divorced to get close to her.

Previews: Rosa visits Luci at work, we have a pending convo, then puts on a ‘sick pitiful me’ play. Max yells at Aldo ‘Vicky is forbidden for you!’ Aldo: Vicky does not want him anymore… Julie begins her plan on Claudio.

Oh my SuperMarta...you had some powerful descriptions in this one!..Max takes "a hard bite....hoping the biscuit could be Vicky's tongue". Yikes, what an image.

Also enjoyed "Rod's body is there but his mind is in another galaxy".

The one puzzle for me in this episode is the ghost. Do not see the point of this being in the story at all. It adds nothing. And I've never heard of a hungry ghost before but we shall see. I did like Procopio's pitcher and plate Clearly I'm distracted by the crockery. If I were a buyer for Pottery Barn, I'd definitely be ordering some.

Thanks for another great recap Marta and for including such detailed conversation for those of our readers who don't yet understand Spanish very well. You're a fine educator.

Marta, thanks for this great, wonderful recap. I never, ever thought Vicky would tell Aldo about her being abused by Max. Aldo did look sick and scared.I really hope Vicky keeps her avacadoes and doesn't back down. Max is very jealous I must say. To chokehold Aldo. I am glad Conny came in to save Aldo.

Loved that dinner for Melissa by the Linares. All the wonderful toasts and even Rod making such a good one, Claudio and his toast, Rod sure was jealous that Pato was sitting next to Luci.

Poor Rod his life has turned into an Inferno. I think he is right to want to divorce Gagme, they don't love each other, but on the other hand Pato is right and Luci won't welcome him back with open arms. Rod has a lot to deal with.

Poor Luci too. Now she feels guilty about Gagme's actions, and to tell you the truth, I think Gagme counted on Luci hearing the "if something happens to me and the bebe, it's yours and la Domestica's fault". Gagme wants to guilt Luci into staying away from Rodrigo es Mio. And The Champagne Queen's reaction, I'm losing beauty sleep and her gagme daughter didn't let her know ahead of time. Really!!!!I really think Gagme knows she is on the losing end here.

Frigid is gonna tell on Hanna. Mati, in this one instance, really did give Hanna good advice about Lor. Stay away from him and keep him away from here. Rosa would like nothing better than to throw his butt back in jail.

That phantasma is a hoot. I think the writers are using this plot device for something. We have seen way to much of this phantasma for them not to use it for something. Love how the phantasma stole Copio's bread, lol.

Rosa is way far gone. She needs to be in a manicomio. Everything is always wrong with someone else, never with her. And it's never Rosa's fault, always someone else's. I really wish, just once, she could really see herself for what she really is.

Excellent, Marta.

At this stage I can't see Gala going to term. Either she will die in an accident in the last week or she will have a miscarriage within the next two weeks and not tell Rod. Real pregnancy morphs into a fake one.

Aldo is an idiot.

Request for reality check: Do law school grads take the final oral exam in front of an audience like this? It's intimidating and creepy.

Great recap, Marta. Loved, "After normalizing his testosterone level..." Really true about Rod, looks like he is on steroids.
Wasn't there another one of these inquest-type exams in some other TN? Was it Teresa or Fuerza?

I think Luci would take back her Muchachon. Of course it can't happen that way in a TN, or can it?

That bread disappeared like a magic trick...ghosts don't eat bread, definitely should clue Procopio in on the nature of this "Fantasma".

Marta- This was one of you best. Thank you!

Max was really scary last night. Vicky is going to have to work extra hard to not fall back into Max's clutches, but Aldo lives and works with him, so he needs to think of another way to save his skin. The only way he can do that is by proving to Max that he's loyal. The question is, how will he do that? And now the police are coming after him to find out who the owner of Inferno is. Aldo will have some tough choices to make soon.

Urban- In Teresa, the docs also had to do their final professional exam in front of an audience. And one of my friends also did her Masters exam in front of a small audience here in the U.S. and I went. We also did a celebratory dinner afterwards. It's unusual here in the U.S., but not in other countries.

I want Rod to stop TALKING about the divorce, and just DO it. Don't ask anyone's opinion. Don't talk to Luci about it and make her feel like she's the cause-- making her feel guilty. If he's doing it for himself and his well-being, then he shouldn't hesitate. He should also be thinking about his child and that this in not the environment he wants him/her growing up in. Winning back Luci should be his third priority. Once he has shown that he is man enough and mature enough to make his own decisions, and follow through on them, then he will have a better chance of winning back Luci, as a free/unmarried man.

I still think the ghost is Theo. Anyone notice that the Theo actor was switched last night. He wasn't the same big/burly guy. This guy is smaller and less handsome.

Urban-not here in the States. They take a written test, although in Law School they participate in what's called Moot Court where they try a case in front of the professor.

Vivi I did notice the Theo actor was different. I thought I was seeing things lol. I too think Theo is the phantasma.

I am afraid I was disappointed when Gala was returned to her home safe and sound.

Emarie- In one way I was disappointed to Gala didn't have any consequences from her drunken night. But on the other hand, I know it would be too soon for her to die, and any other consequence (injury) would tie Rod to her more tightly. So this was the best outcome for now. It opened Rod's eyes even more to the kind of future he could expect. Putting a drunk, bitter wife to bed every night.

I think it's customary for dissertation/thesis defenses to be public. (Way back in 1982 my husband's defense had to be postponed because Poland's martial law regime prohibited all public gatherings.) But that doesn't necessarily mean you invite your whole family as if it was your graduation ceremony. Personally, I just had a few classmates come, for support and to take notes.

Found this with a quick online search:

"In Mexico, the bar exam is oral. At her university, each student chooses the three law professors who will administer the oral exam. The test is a rather subjective process. The bar candidate faces three lawyers seated at a long table — adorned with fresh fruit — and must answer a series of questions about the legal system. You pass or fail right there on the spot."

"Lawyers in Mexico are required to complete a law degree (Licenciado en Derecho, a five year program), and obtain a practice certificate (cedula professional) from the Bureau of Professions of the Ministry of Education (Direction General de Profesiones), which officially certifies the license by virtue of the law degree."

I really appreciate being able to read important parts of the dialogue! (Sometimes Hulu provides Spanish captions, sometimes not.) One question: Did the police find Gala walking or driving? Did I hear "caminando"?

I like Rosa's kind of villain--bad, but in self-defeating kinds of ways. She might be redeemable. And I wonder how evil Max might be. He might be on a whole different level.

UtahDesert- Yes, they said they found her walking. So at least she had sense enough not to get back behind the wheel. She still has her self preservation instincts in place. :)

Wow--SuperMarta indeed, the multi-faceted, multi-talented Spanish-speaking lady. You delivered a real wow recap. Tight and yet full of colorful details. Gracias.

Rod's toast to Melissa had a double meaning. He was once again trying again to tell Luci he's sorry for not defending her and not fighting for what was right.

Melissa clearly knows where to draw the line. She essentially told Jana in the lounge chair that just being close to him makes her heart flutter, but she admires him and respects him. I don't think she'll make the first move. That said, it would be better if she didn't go to work for CL.

Poor Jana (how many times have we said that). Frigida will rat her out. I think that is the main reason Rose kept her on--to keep her informed on the inner-workings in the house (since she was so busy doing nothing and bothering Padre Honesto). Frigida loves her job of spy and the Gala-Julie-Rod thing came along for her (and us) at just the right time. She was probably getting low on story material.

Was Max just teaching Aldo a lesson or had his anger taken him over the edge. How was he going to explain the dead body of his nephew in the house. It was similar to handcuffing Vicky--it was a power trip extraordinare.

It was such "fun" to watch Max squirm and do a slow burn in the restaurant.

I just can't resist Pato. He can deliver so much feeling with his face--the eyes, the forehead, the jaw. No wonder the camera moves in for close-ups. Rodrigo was definitely feeling a bit of bro-envy, bordering on jealousy at CL's DP1.

Speaking of Rodrigo, I love his looks up on the mountain top with Luci in the credits. He seems so free, so sure of himself as an outdoorsman. We don't hear much about him going on hiking or on climbing trips anymore. Anyway, a lot of it, for me, has to do with his hair. It's shiny and golden and fluffy. Why does wardrobe think he looks good with his hair greased and slicked back. Oh, that's right Gabe and Marco kind of look like that, too. Thank goodness they're not pommadeing Pato's gorgeous head of hair.

The fantasma is there to stretch the novela out to 165 episodes, sin duda.

Anita- I hear ya about Pato. When he said to Luci, "I'll sing to you", I almost melted. He said it in such a smoldering way. Poor Luci was blushing all kinds of shades of red. Then he just laughed it off and played it off. Even sexier. I for one, would love to have Pato sing to me. :)

He seems to be getting bolder in displaying his feelings for her, and is getting more fed up with Rod and his whining and stalking.

Many thanks Marta. Always an awesome recap with so much detail.
Lot of little plot points and statements made that hint at things to come.

Glad Vi told someone about what Max had done to her. Aldo was genuinely upset and I think his motivation to get money out of Max may now take a dark turn.

But what rather ticked me off was Connie's approach when Max was doing his best stalker/attack imitation. Obviously something was wrong, but even Aldo's lame "he's mad because of Cl" would have had me blowing steam out of my ears as a mother & tell Max to never touch my kid again instead of " oh,Aldo don't provoke Max" WTH? Now she's enabling Max? Spare me.

The only two points I see to the whole Grill Teeth getting angry and drunk is 1.) Get Luce to feel guilty for anything that happens in the future-thus pulling her and Rod apart and 2.) Start a downward spiral with GT that may result in either a miscarriage or baby born with severe health issues. I too was a little surprised that it didn't take a darker turn.

I agree with Pato's analysis to Rod--Dumbass really dug himself a hole for that one night of anger sex. He wonders if he has to pay all his life for his one screw up--hello, yes, especially if it was that stupid. Of course, being the hunky spoiled first son who everyone adored and with a mother who has NEVER accepted any consequences of her actions, not surprised he took that tack. It was almost as if Luce had to make concessions to him some how, hinting that he was sorry and keeps saying that he is so now why isn't she just being all dewey-eyed and letting them get togther? Yeah, he's Rosa's boy all right.
I guess I'm supposed to take it as him constantly wanting her to hear his undying love--but I look at it as harrassing and disrespectful. He needs to get his house in order and leave Luce out of it.

Again with the differences in meals and moods. Love these writers and director!!

Janna is such deep doodoo. (Mati has a nerve warning her when she's pulled some big-mouth spilling herself.) So what would Rosa do to jabba--she's already made her feelings known on the Lorenzo idea. I guess we worry if Rosa suddenly knows a good hit-man to call.

Poor Luci. She's too good for her own good. She would reject Rod if he divorced Gala because that vampire has done such a successful guilt trip on her.

As to Rod, once he gets to that place where he's on the mountaintop with Luci he will be himself again. The better look will reflect how he feels inside. Now he is bogged down by Gala and her self-created drama. She's sapping his energy just as that grease flattens out his hair.

He needs better beard grooming as well. His current look makes him look too old.

The fact that Lusi comes so close to melting in Rod's arms, even now that he's married, shows me that it won't be impossible for him to win her back when/if he's free. Sure, she might feel guilty for a while, but it sure as heck will be easier to woo her and move her past her guilty feelings when he DOESN'T have a ring on his finger. First thing's first Rod. How can he expect her to give him pledges of forgiveness and love and kisses, while he's still married?!

UA--you are toooo much. Mountain top breezes are good for the hair. Plus, Don A's shop probably doesn't sell Brylcreme.

A follow up on the Pato as a crooner. I could have sworn the rest of the conversation went something like ... when they ask me to sing it's means the end of the party because they always tell me to shut up and everybody goes home... a joke on himself. Did anyone else catch that?

Anita- Yeah, I caught that joke. Oh, Pato! Rod needs to find his sense of humor too. Gala has sapped that out of him too.

thanks Anita! totally forgot to include that part of the joke about his singing in the recap. i liked that sense of humor in him too.

Drat no auto accident when we could have used one and which might have solved everyone's problem but kudos to the writers for not taking the obvious route.

Laughed my head off with Nosy Rosy at the restaurant constantly looking at Aldo and Vicki and making snide comments to Max. Almost choked when she said he had better taste than have someone as vulgar as Vicki, I guess Vio went up a notch LOL.

I wonder if Pato will sing for Luci. i read somewhere that Brandon Peniche does sing so who knows. For some reason in almost every novela i've seen some actor breaks into song some times to the good, sometimes not.

Rod was definitely caught between a rock and a hard place watching Pato and Luci's interactions and so obviously wanting to be in his brother's place. That farewell was a tad awkward.

When Gagme waas swilling back drinks and then trying to figure how to pay for them i kept looking at the guy in the background and wondering if he was going to make a play for her, kidnap her, be important but i guess he just called the cops to make sure the drunken mess got home safe. Than again maybe he will play a part when she goes to recoup her earrings.

Max and Vicki played with fire and from the looks of things and Max's subsequent actions they are going to get burned.

Mati giving Jana good advice and reminding her what happened to Luci when she tangled with the TL Queen. Who knew she had sensible advice in her being used to her constant handwringing mi nina's. Lord God does no one in that house think to close a door when Frigida is near? So annoying when Mati knows full well that other woman is an ear to the wall gossip.

I hate those previews with julie getting all coy in front of Claudio. That is something that I loathed in the prior version and hoped they would not go down that path in this one so if Claudio can't see through her I am going to be majorly pithed.

Decie--I cringed, too, but Claudio's head is on straight--and he knows enough from Luci about Gala not to get tangled up with her mother. I wonder if CL will be a gentleman in rejecting her or give her a well deserved in your face are you kidding let down.

It will be interesting to see whether Max will hire her or not. Maybe he will feel that since he's being surrounded by Team Luci members he'll feel compelled to hire Julie.

I was happy to hear Luci say to Melissa the other day that after her baby is born she plans on going to university. Yay! Now, if only they could convince their little brothers, Lorenzo and Aldo, to continue with their education too.

Thanks Marta ... I appreciate the exacting detail you give. I don't miss anything and I sure would otherwise! Thanks again.

Ohhh Maxi, Maxi. I didn't start watching Refugio until it went to the one hour format so I didn't see Max drug Vicki and chain her up, only the intimidating and controlling behavior which is bad enough. Now that I've seen the flashback, and watched him grab hold of Aldo so that a little more pressure might have killed him, I don't think Maxi can be saved. Claudio needs to git'im. He's equal with Rosa. My heart instantly jumps to their three children and how they will cope with learning who their parents really are. Only the immature Aldo knows the extent of his uncle's depravity. What's so sick about what Max does is that he could generate fear and get the results he wants without going that far, so there's something really poisoned in him and that's what makes him equal with Rosa. They both will stop at nothing to control their realms. Someone said this week that the body count is still at one. Now I fear it won't stay so low.

Don Aquiles is responsible for that one body(I assume the reference was to Galindo.) I've also been hopeful about Don A because, well, we all know that in Novelaland finding a long lost child can do good things for a guy. But Don A was ruthless with Luci's family so I'm not in his camp anymore either.

I could not believe how drunk pregnant Gala got. What a hypocrite! She's educated enough to know about fetal alcohol syndrome. She can't pin alcohol consumption on anyone else, really. Dumb Rod needs to figure out that getting out of there is the right thing, not because she's impossible for HIM to live with, but because their living situation produces in a very bad environment for the baby that's (still) growing in there.

Pato really made Luci uneasy when he offered to sing to her picked up the cues that it was inappropriate only at the last minute. He's slowly courting her but y'all have said, it's a lost cause for him.

Also, did Melissa go on a bit too much in presenting her gift to Claudio? I thought I saw some eyes rolling in the room.

A BIG thank you Marta.

Fantasma---My take for what it's worth. This is a very serious novela, intence in many places with a lot of hatred and strong, very strong arguements. I think that the fantasama is nothing more than an attempt by the writers to break the intensity if just for a moment and bring in a laugh or two. This fits in perfectly with the copio character. I laughed myself, so I guess that it's working.

Insight?---I have seen enough novelas to know that there usually are several deaths and one or two severe cripling accidents which often turn out to be not accidents at all but a result of careful planning. After watching this last episode, I couldn't help but wonder if Aldo and Vickie are not moving closer to a big anvil of some kind. Psycho Max is not going to take their romance lightly.---Does anyone agree?
the gringo

Sorry about the typo in the second to last paragraph above. Should read 'offered to sing to her AND picked up the cues that it was inappropriate only at the last minute.'

Another comment on Max and Rosa. Rosa is verbal in her classism, talking on about Aldo being with a manicurist who is below him. Though Max has never been verbally judgmental based on class, he treats Vicki like dirt, like someone who is so far beneath him that she's simply his property. Same thing, different expression.

Gringo- This telenovela and La Fuerza del Destino have the lowest body counts I've seen in a tn. They both focus on character studies and character development, without adding the splashy murders and accidents.

Max may try to terrorize and intimidate Aldo and Vicky, but I don't see him murdering them. That would be too messy and have too many repercussions that would impact his life and the people around him.

Carol- Oscar was definitely rolling his eyes as Melissa gushed about CL. LOL!

Gringo, I agree. It looks like we're building toward Max finally being in a pressure cooker where he'll do something beserk. I stopped watching novelas because the murders were crazy and piled up in a sort of random way at some points. With Max, we've had foreshadowing with the phrase ... 'I want you to know what I'm capable of.' Now we know. So far he's been capable of almost killing both Vicki and Aldo to make his sick point. The big anvil could be over them but also over Claudio if he gets too close to Max's dark secrets, and I could even see Oscar getting too close to secrets that are far more threatening to Max than what Aldo and Vicki have done.

The body count is very low here which is interesting because in the prior version there were six all but two of them before the point we are at now. Then again there were more characters and we even had not one but three trials, Becuase the set up is differnt that can't happen here. However that doesn't mean that I don't fear for Pato, Aldo (who sometimes just seems to be asking for it), Claudio and Luci's bebe. People who crawl out from under the rocks like julie and Gagme seem to have an uncanny way of landing on their feet at least until the final weeks.

I don't think Claudio has anything at all to fear from Max. He knows Max too well and Max would be an immediate suspect. The danger if there is any to Claudio would seem to come from someone else

I don't think Oscar was so much rolling his eyes at Melissa's over the top little speech but was recognizing her feelings for the man. Several others already know about them so didn't react in the same way.

Like the TL kids, Oscar stands to be very disillusioned when the depth of Max's crooked dealings comes out. He has been his right hand man for years and trusts him believing him to be a somewhat honrable man. He got his first clue back during the trial when Max ordered him to bribe the judge and jury but has somehow seemed to have gotten passed it.

Oscar's relationship with Max is a lot like Connie's relationship with Rosa. They are both loyal to Rosa/Max, and also both in denial about the how bed/evil the other person is. Although Connie knows way more about Rosa's bad/evil deeds than Oscar knows about Max's. He will be just as blindsighted and disillusioned to find out about the true Max as the TL kids.

I'm overthinking again but it is Sunday. But would someone please tell me why Ofelia seems to think that Lastra was so good to her. All i can rememer is hi giving her a job for a ouple of nights and then stalking her. I don't remember him saving her from some drunken lout in the club. She admits she is afraid of him but will probably still go to the park. Someone should tell her if she gets caught with him she could be charged with aiding and abetting a fugitive.

And why doesn't Lastra call Max? Or did he and I missed it. He's got Max's money and records you'd think he'd be smart enough to use them to insure his safety.

Hello Marta, awesome recap. It's been a crazy week for me but the recaps keep me updated. A heartfelt thank you to Madelaine for yesterday's recap. Who is Gala kidding? She is smart enough to realize Rod doesn't love her, so why stay? The things people do for money. Aldo does have a screw loose. Going after a dangerous man's mistress is pure lunacy. In this particular case, the Mistress is more valued than the wife. Especially a wife like RE. Vicky has become his tension release. He can't loose her, not to Aldo.
I almost felt sorry for Gagme last night. ALMOST! It seems all her mother cares about is the TL money, not her. If your own mother can't love you,who will?

Olive

Decie Girl- Max told Lastra to get out of town days ago. He has disobeyed Max in order to stalk Ofelia, so he can't call Max. Each day he has stayed in town brings more danger to him and to Max (if the cops catch him and get him to talk), so Max would be p*ssed if he called him and admitted he's still in D.F.

As for Ofelia, I guess she thinks Lastra giving her a job is a good thing. He could have said no. *shrug* I also guess, since he didn't try to force himself on her sexually, like he did Luci, she doesn't see firsthand how evil he can be. She seems to feel a bit sorry for the guy. He has seemed more pathetic than dangerous with her.

Olive- I don't think Gala is doing it for the money. She's doing it to get back at Rod and Luci. And she's doing it for her pride. If she were able to seduce/win back Rod, she would feel triumphant over him and Luci. She can not get over the fact that Rod loves Luci and does not love her, and that he dumped her for Luci.

She has questioned why she's doing this a few times, but Julie is always there to stoke the fires of her hate and need for revenge to keep her going. Julie's driving motive is money, and for this reason she is able to remain so cold and cool-headed. Gala can't contain all the hurt and resentment she feels, and so is always picking fights with Rod. A true gold-digger, like Julie, would know how to stroke the man's ego and make him feel like she loves/worships him. (Like Vio and Vicky with their sugar daddies.)

Juli, Juli ... The first novela I ever saw was the kiddie novela Luz Clarita (I was NOT a kiddie.) Someone here mentioned Mexican pottery and what caught my eye as I was flipped by Univision was a scene in a traditional Mexican cocina. I was fascinated by the kitchenware. then became immediately hooked on that sweet novela. Anyway, Frances Ondivela, our Juli here, played almost the exact same character in Luz Clarita. The money hungry mother of a pretty blond daughter whom she pushes to marry the son of the rich industrialist. In that case, she too was in a relationship with the father. I still remember her last line to her daughter who was, by that time, disgusted with her mother's ways ... "The only thing that matters in life is money and position." Nothing new under the sun in Novelaland, not even the actress in this case.

I agree with Vivi, Gagme might have been in it for the money/TorresLanda social status back at first when Luci was not in the picture. Once Rod dropped her like a sour apple and went and married Luci after he dropped her DURING their first civil marriage attempt, Gala's focus changed from money to ego/revenge/jealousy and hurt pride, just like Vivi says. IT was not anymore about the money, it was about not losing Rod to the 'nobody' Luci. This is why Gala thought she had won the game when she got Rod to marry her, but once Rod found out Luci is also pregnant, he has totally turned around on her and not even trying to disguise it... he is all out on Luci. And this hurts Gala's pride/ego even more.

Marta - Great recap.

Poor Aldo. Looks like he's finally at the point when fast talk won't get him out of trouble. Enjoyed Vicki rising up and sticking it to Max, but she's naive about how low Max will go.

Dang where was Karma where Gagme was concerned in the bar?? Instead of taking the earrings as payment for the bartab, Gagme shouldve been made to wash dishes. Drat....

Hasn't anyone in the TL household learned by now in this telenovela to NOT leave a door not fully shut?????

I think Rod & Pato will come up with a plan that will protect Luci from the bruja clan.

The champagne cougar queen will get her claws into Claudio Linares. And Melissa will be the casualty of that action.

I wonder if Gagme's magazine editor job was given to her by her daddy. And we'll see an appearance by him when things start going south at the magazine so he comes to check things out. Some kind of boss she is...shes never there!!!! Unless I missed something in a previous episode, her daddy has never been mentioned.

I haven't missed this one yet and no, Gala's father has never been mentioned. We don't know whether Julie is divorced or a (possibly black) widow. I'm guessing that he was out of the picture before she was even old enough to know him.

LOL @ Urban!! But you know seeing as Gagme's daddy has not been mentioned as of yet...hhhhmmmmm. I'm seeing an undropped anvil or two down the road here. The champagne cougar queen does seem to be quite the grifter too. If Rod, Pato, Luci (oh who else can we throw in the mix) want to get some goods on the bruja twosome, I'd keep an eye on this possible plotline.

I don't think we are likely to see an appearnace by Gagme's father. It is too late in the story to suddenly drag in a bunch of new characters who would only be perferial to the main story. Had he appeared early on it might have been interesring but i don't think drifting into a secondary characters backstory would further advance this one. In any event i think the guy had a lucky escape getting rid of Julie and Gala.

Vivi I do remember that bit with Max and lastra and i think the guy is a fool to cross Max. Chalk it up to Lastra being another fool like Rod, Boris and marcial who won't take NO for an answer.

My guess on Gala, is that she is the "by product" of Julie being the high maintenance mistress of some rich guy, and that she had Gala in an attempt to hang onto her well-to-do lover. Otherwise, she would probably not had a child since it would get in the way of her "socialite livelihood". Eventually the relationship broke up anyway, and the "big fish" paid her off to get rid of her, and perhaps he paid for Gala's maintenance while a minor, and left a decent settlement for Gala to inherit on the condition that they stay out of his life. That's how Gala ended up being owner of the magazine business yet Julie doesn't own anything but her NY apartment which was probably part of the settlement or had been bought when she was the mistress. So, at one time they lived in NY, but they returned to Mexico and keep very mum about their past.

That's been my theory!

I like it Audrey. I think you're just about ready to write some pot-boilers aren't you? Good rich imagination amiga mia.

what if Gagme's dad turns out to be...
wait for it...

wait for it...

EL SUSODICHO Don PEDRO CAMPOS!!...

lol!! none other than a criminal...
that would be too much for Gagme to take... that her dad is a criminal whereas Luci's dad is a hero/knight in golden shining armor

I actually like Audrey's plot too... and it would definitely fit with Julie's personality and ways.

It's just that sometimes I feel obliged to fill in the big holes left open by our poor beleaguered script writers! :) Really, so I can explain parts of the story to myself, LOL. And yes, Marta, this back story is inspired by Julie's "socialite" high-class party girl, spendthrift, moocher ways and how she uses her daughter as her meal ticket.

But EJ is still the queen of this. I'll never forget her "deep background" on the mysterious Doris in El Talismán.. Talk about imagination!

Another explanation for Gala's magazine business is that she got it in the divorce settlement with her first husband (whom they also rarely mention).
