Refugio Para el Amor #137 Fri 10/19/12 Some Avon house calls with no sales, Gala refuses to follow the 'motherhood 101' script, Luci upset at meeting baby Gala, Rod comes by to reassure her he will never stop looking for baby Rod, Padre gives Luci some encouragement ... ah! and Frigida took a shower!

Refrito:

Luci's Apartment of Faith and Hope: (Loved the nick, Madelaine!)
Luci and Vio say goodbye to Paz… she is going back to Het Het.. but leaves worried about Luci and baby
Nicole's Salon:
Max arrives to ask Vicky for ‘the works’ personalized spa treatment at penthouse, cost is non-issue. Vicky not happy about it.

Fancy Hospital in the D.F.  It is a beautiful girl!! Gagme not happy… get her away!

Lo Nuevo:

Connie is having tea with the older witches, Julie undermines Luci’s baby as ‘nada que ver’ while she praises Gagme’s new baby girl. RE comments that she never even met Luci’s baby boy(liar!!), nothing to write home about, white, black hair, big eyes… Julie says Gala’s baby looks like Rod, and Luci’s baby looks like her. Connie says if thst is so Luci’s baby must have been beautiful. She notes Julie is a bit anxious. She claims she is interviewing potential nannies for the baby.

At hospital, Rod is able to carry this child of his, calls her ‘little princess’. SO glad to have you in my arms. Daddy loves ya… (cries)… know you have a little bro called Rodrigo? And I swear… I swear to you that one day you will meet him… (kisses baby on forehead)… looks up determined…

Pato in therapy again, Janah runs in to tell him Rod’s baby was born. Pato can’t go with her to see her, have to meet Luci at office, but will go see her tomorrow. Janah will take picture of baby to send him.  Janah leaves, Pato is sad, even drops the therapy ball… ‘Rod must be happy’. Jorge asks about Luci’s baby investigation. Nothing. Two months have gone and no clue where he is.

At TL Manor, Frigida and Mati in kitchen… each takes the marketing propaganda they have us used to. Frigida comments she is in talks with Gagme and Julie about working for them. Mati says but isn't Gagme going to hire a nanny and two nurses to care for the baby? ah! then you will be HER nanny. Frigida tells Mati ‘it shows you were never happy since you were a kid’.

At TL offices, Aldo reports his expenses to Max, including a ‘carrito’, a working tool. ‘an active circulante’… LOL!!

Oscar comes in and Aldo takes his exit before he gets yelled at. Oscar congratulates Max on the birth of baby granddaughter.

Oscar brings him report that the investigators have so far. They are almost certain that the baby must still be alive, since around that time there was no report of a dead baby found.

Don Chelo is singing again (sorry don’t know the name of the song… that one that sounds funi, funi funi culaaaa…) Talks to Mateo, while hanging the rags/cloth diapers on a clothes line inside his hut because it is about to rain outside, washing the soiled diapers too… Baby Rod is much bigger looking now, pretty accurate for 2 mos old (but a 2 mos well fed baby… so Don Chelo must have gone out of his way to feed and treat him right)
Vio, Luci and Selene show Lore and Fabian the site for their new business ‘Curvas Continuas’ (continuous/neverending curves)…

At Het Het… at the work shop in Magda’s house, things look good, Namurachi is saying all they need now is to work on motivating the women to come work and learn… Namu asks about Luci… very sad, but she won’t loose faith. Namu is always praying for her. How is Paz? On her way home. … Hopefully Luci will make it home too. Namu wants to thank her personally for everything she has done for the women. Magda says thanks to you too since you have taken over and done so much for the women around here.

Don Aq comes in, and Magda is as bitter with him as always… He asks how is Luci and her baby… Magda won’t believe his concern is honest. Want me to believe you are worried about Luci?... Don Aq insults Magda’s character… she keeps sermoning about he never cared for Vio… Don Aq does not want her to mix apples and oranges.  Ariche comes in asking for Luci and baby. Don Aq leaves after shouting that if he does not do more for Luci it is for Magda’s attitude toward him… Magda takes Ariche to get a drink.

Janah, Aldo and Melissa come to the hospital to meet the baby girl.  Julie lies to her toes saying Gala is sooooo happy to have her baby. RE pulls Julie aside saying Gala has to change her attitude, Everyone else already noticed how ‘not into it’ she is about her daughter. Julie says it is not so serious, just post-partum stuff. RE says she does not know about that, but Rod’s birth was the biggest happy moment in her life and Max’s life. Then when Janah was born it was the final piece to solidify their marriage. Julie cannot stay quiet and says ‘of course, I can imagine! Your marriage is such an exemplary marriage’ (LOL!! This whole exchange is so funny)  RE looks at her like a warning.

Vicky arrives at Max’ new apt… he welcomes her, she has an attitude, she did not come to do what he expects, she just came because he wanted to talk, so talk!... Max taken aback.

At Gala’s hospital room, Connie and her kids are there to see the kid. Connie is carrying the baby. Melissa asks permission to take a picture. Gala says sure but not really interested. Aldo comments ‘uy! How moved/emotional!’  Gala claims she is ‘tired’ but not nicely. Rod says our baby is beautiful. Gala says ‘yes I know, it was logical to be so)’. Rod asks Gala to carry the baby. Gala says no, better put her in the crib, I am tired and in pain. Aldo again comments ‘how motherly!’ to which he gets a rolling eyes from Melissa. (But even though Melissa rolled her eyes at Aldo, both Rod and Connie also looked at Gala a bit surprised/deflated when she responded she did not want to carry her). After a while… the conversation gets around the name they will give the baby girl. Aldo asks about ‘Galita’. Gala undermines that, it is not fashionable anymore nowadays. When the visitors leave, Gala nags about it being a bad custom for people to visit her the very day she has a surgery… Rod claims she is not sick, but she repeats she is not feeling well, don’t want visits… Rod says the baby is biting at his finger. She says call the nurse to feed her. Rod surprised Gala is not planning to feed her herself.
‘ Not in your dreams, Rodrigo’. He is hurt … certainly we all know who will be the better parent here…

At TL office, Pato and Luci are in his office, he is glad she finally came to the office.
Pato receives a message. He gets Luci to help him with it… turns out it is the photo of the baby girl from Janah, Luci is instantly upset and Pato realizes it, he says that it is Rod’s baby girl, that Janah had told him she would send a picture. Luciana, with major difficulty to keep herself together, walks back in front of his desk and sits down, manages to say ‘she is very pretty’. Pato looks at her, not sure who looks more pained.
Luci assumes Rod must be very happy. But Pato knows better, so he tells her not to get like this, that even though Rod is happy for his daughter, for him to be completely happy they have to find his son.
Luci: Yes, my son. We have to find my son because my only consolation is to think that my son is being cared for well by good people who love him very much and treat him right. Right, Patricio?  (Great acting here by both Zuria and Brandon).

At Max’s apt, he wants Vicky to stop the silly talk, she came to be with him… Vicky stands firm, he continues to try to convince him to get back with him as before. Vicky is not willing to turn back time… what she wants is to enjoy her youth, will find a man who cares for me and treats me right, who will treat me as I deserve, as a QUEEN!!!...  Don’t even have time to see you regularly since Nicole gave her the admin of this estetica while she manages the other one… I even get a cut of the profits. She helped me without asking for anything in return. Max changes strategy saying this was a test of her to make sure she wanted to be with him for him, not for his money… Vicky is not buying what he is selling, she says time is gold, so you can keep the time I just wasted on you. After she leaves Max swears to himself that Vicky will be back begging him to take her back.

Lastra came to Estelita’s house. She won’t have any of what he is selling either… Estelita blames him for all the disgraces of Luci and then Lorenzo… he wanted to get them in jail with false accusations. She would never let her daughter have anything to do with him. He claims he is willing to change, to become another man, but need a chance to tell your daughter. Estelita pushes him out the door… He has one final plea… ‘for your daughter I found love’… to no avail, no sale at this door…

Janah calls Lorenzo asking for Luci… same … Janah tells him Rodrigo’s daughter was born… Lorenzo says if she looks like you she must be beautiful. Janah can’t help but blush at the compliment… Janah sends her greetings to Luci… Lorenzo repeats she is more than welcome to visit her anytime… Thanks… thank you for calling..  aaahhh love…

Pato on phone with Rod… Rod says he is happy, just as he was when he met his son over the phone sent picture… Pato tells Rod Luci was with him when he received the pic from Janah and Luci was very upset by it. Rod asks how can I be happy when she is suffering so… Pato tells him what Luci said, that she would only find her happiness when she gets her son back. Rod knows it. And he swears to Pato he will find it and give it to Luci, even if it is the last thing he does. Pato says I hope so, both of you deserve to have your son…. Janah comes in smiling… Came to say good night. Tells Pato she called Lorenzo. He teases her her mom will find out. Then about her saying ‘no tiene nada de malo’ (there is nothing wrong with that (calling Lorenzo) [or the alternate meaning with him (Lorenzo)]…then about Janah saying ‘Lorenzo is VERY well/fine’ (which could mean healthwise or hunkwise) Just then comes the witch they were worrying/joking about… none other than the wicked witch of the East who somehow avoided Dorothy’s house from flattening her like a pancake. RE asks Pato why he did not come to the hospital to meet his niece. Pato says I prefer to wait and meet her at their apartment. RE says don’t know why since she is the firstborn of your brother. (Pato just looks down, but Janah comments that the first born of Rod was Luci’s baby.). RE keeps on demeaning/not recognizing Luci’s baby as Rod’s firstborn…Ah! Luci’s baby… that poor angelito surely must be in heaven… (Pato takes offense with this) Mama… I am sure Luci’s baby is alive somewhere. And we will find him. RE keeps lying up her rearview side saying she has been praying for him, may God protect him wherever he is.
Pato just rolls his eyes and looks away. Same with Janah.

At TL offices, Aldo gets summoned again to see Max. He is worried it is another issue with his expense report… but no, Max wants Aldo to do some errands for him. Just follow the instructions I give you tomorrow. You just show up in my name, they will know how to deal with you… Btw, I am very well pleased with your attitude as of late. Btw, did you break up with Vicky?  …. She broke up with me… that is not what you both said at the restaurant.   … Fine, just do what I tell you tomorrow.

At hospital, Dr says they might go tomorrow. Gala seems to want to spend another week at nurse scout torture camp… Julie says no way, better to spend the night at a luxury hotel than at a hospital! It would even be cheaper!.. (even Gagme is gagging.. GAH!!!) Doctor smirks at the comment but continues on… you let me know then. Doc takes his leave.  Rod goes with him. Julie is in disbelief that Gagme wants to stay… Gagme says I want Rod’s attention… Julie insists Gagme needs to pay more attention to her daughter since she is the passport/gateway to the TL inheritance. And now that she is born, you should start insisting in Rod getting a living will.. and you listen to me, from this point forward you do whatever Rod says… Gala turns away not liking that piece of the marching orders…

Rod and Gagme’s friends are out in waiting room… they are not in a hurry to get married.. Fer is not in a hurry to take role of housewife and mother…  Vale is in disbelief that Gagme would be a 24/7 mother. .. Just at this moment Rod comes out and says ‘yes Valentina… it will be so, at least until the baby is 3 y.o., then will go to school and Gagme would go back to the office.  Rod tells his friends he will spend the night with Gala.  Vale says the baby looks like Rod, the prettiest of the whole nursery.  Julie comments that her granddaughter will never call her ‘abuela’, just ‘Julie’… (GAHHH!!!) Rod says he will go the apt for clothes and will be back. But will leave very early in the morning, have a meeting at the office and will be back later in the day in case she is released.  (not exactly what Gagme had in mind, is it?)

At her apartment, Luci is on phone with Claudio… she is about to go to sleep. Doorbell rings. It is Rod (who else??) She lets him in. She gets anxious asking if there are news on her son… Rod says unfortunately not. But you know Claudio and I will not rest until there are. Luci notes it has been 67 days with no news on my son. Rod says more than 1600 hours… (he can do math too)… He says Pato told him she met his daughter. Luci says yes she is beautiful, then she gets paranoic/startled, begging Rod to never take his eyes off his daughter because otherwise something could happen to her… Rod approaches Luci and comforts her.…Rod swears to Luci he will never stop looking for ‘OUR’ son. NEVER!… He is also my son. He is OUR son. And believe me I am fighting with all my heart so I would not have to see you like this, so I would not have to see the sorrow in your eyes. (he hugs her).

Don CHelo  is with Mateo tapping off his gasses. He holds his drink bottle, tells him he has not had a drop of alcohol in two months, still fighting the temptation… HE puts Mateo back in his wooden basket stroller(baby Mateo barely fits in it anymore)… he has something important to do…. He grabs the bottle… cheers!... and drinks the whole bottle. (OUCH!!)

At TL manor, Frigida begs RE to let her go out for a while. RE wants her to wait for the weekend. Frigida begs some more. RE gives in. ‘I even took a shower already!’ (LOVED the look on RE’s face at this final comment on Frigida). RE and Mati find it strange that Frigida has to go out.

RE is heading to the hospital. Mati will wait until they are back in the apartment to meet the baby.

At street sidewalk Chelo is doing his act and passing the hat for the coins. Some old woman is nagging about him doing this on the street and having the baby beside him. Chelo defends himself saying he has to get some money to survive and support the baby… The ladies notice his breath smells of alcohol and they comment he should be reported to the authorities.

Padre Honesto visits Luci. He owed her a visit for a long time. HE wants to talk to her.  Luci upset tells Padre that it has been two months and no news on her son. Not a hint. She keeps trying. But she can’t take it, and she confesses her faith buckles at times. Padre says it is normal for her to weaken. Luci says I lost it. I can’t stop thinking that if I had not left that clinic my son would be with me!! Padre keeps telling her not to torment herself. Luci asks what mother would do that?? Padre reminds her even Virgin Mary lost her son for three days, and found him. That Jesus prepared her for his redemption, for our salvation. Think that even the Virgin Mary went through this and suffered very much. Maybe through your suffering you could help more people.. (now I see Luci and Rod starting a foundation to help find lost kids by the FIN). Luci nods in agreement.

RE and Genaro in the white SUV almost run into CHelo and the stroller… RE is yelling at Chelo and standing right by Mateo… she takes one look at Mateo and freezes. (this baby must remind her of baby Luci because RE is frozen in her tracks)

Chelo yells at RE to let him get off the road, there are cars waiting to go by. RE keeps on yelling at him, Viejo bruto!! And that the authorities should take the baby from him.  RE gets back in car and Chelo takes Mateo away saying ‘don’t mind this old hag woman’.

RE is at church looking for Padre Honesto. The monaguillo/altarboy tells her Padre left. RE calls Padre. He tells her I am with Luci, don’t wait for me. RE is not happy to hear that.  Padre keeps encouraging Luci to pray and wait… hope is wishing it will happen, faith is believing it will happen and courage is to make it happen. (very nice scene)
.
At CHelo’s hut… he tells Dona Chuy about his meeting with the ill-intentioned women.
That the ladies said he uses the baby to inspire pity… and that RE and her chofer almost ran them over and RE even insulted him over that! And that RE would not stop staring at Mateo… The baby is so ‘chulo’ that he calls a lot of attention. Chuy notices Chelo stinks of alcohol. Chelo whines that he does not have to change his lifestyle for the baby. He can turn it into the authorities. Chuy asks if you were not going to change, why did you keep him?? Borracho!!  … She leaves, Chelo warns Mateo that he will turn him in…
Mateo is crying loudly, Chelo grabs another bottle, but then looks at Mateo and seems to stop drinking.
Previews: Luci tells Claudio she wants to help the street kids (I knew it!!)
RE tells someone she just saw a baby on the street and it looked like Luci’s baby.
Chuy warns Chelo: Either you care for the baby or you turn him in the authorities!

Sorry i did not get to the recap (or even watching the ep) until now... was a bit anxious of folks in TX going to closing for the sale of my house so i had no head for any recaping until today. Hope you all enjoy it.
I enjoyed the scenes where the avon calls did not get sales (in reverse for Vicky and Max), Pato/Rod, Rod/Luci and Luci/Padre M. LOVED the Frigida takes a shower moment... priceless!

Hi Ms. Marta...Hope the closing went well and that house is signed, sealed and delivered.

So glad you gave the complete text of the "esperanza....fé...valentia..." quote by Padre Honesto. That was a fine scene.

Also got a kick out of your saying that Connie was "having tea with THE OLDER WITCHES". hAH.

But my favorite was your oh-so-discreet "lying up her rearview side". Ah, go ahead and say it, girlfriend, she was lying up her a$$! But bless you for being such a lady. Roselena sure isn't.

Utterly miserable watching a baby cry unattended while Chelo struggles with drowning his sorrows again in alcohol. Please writers, get this baby back to Luciana cuanto antes!...a como dé lugar. Can't stand this.

But great recap SuperMarta. And again, hope all went smoothly with the house sale.

Thanks Marta mucho. I found it cringeworthy when Chelo tried to stuff Mateo into his "box" by pushing down on his head 2 or 3 times to get him under the handle. He finally pulled his legs forward and slid him in. I can't get that scene out of my head. They are cruel to these babies in TNs.

Marta- Many thanks amiga for working so hard to get us this wonderful recap. No need to appologize. We have the whole weekend, and your house sale is WAY more important. Hope it turned out to be profitable for you.

I also cringed when Don Chelo tried to stuff Mateo back into the wooden carriage that's too small for him. I once again invisioned the real mother on the other side of the camera biting her nails.

Mateo does not like Don Chelo drinking. I hope this is a one time fall off the wagon, and that he soon finds his resolve to kick the bottle again. He was definitely scared about those nosey women taking Mateo away from him and got the heebie jeebies from Rosa, as he should. I don't like the previews of Rosa realizing the baby might be Luci's.

I loved Aldo's snide comments about Gala's maternal instincts. He just said out loud what the rest of the family was thinking. Rod is basically going to be a single parent with that girl. I don't know where he got the idea that Gala was going to wait till the baby was three years old before going back to work. More like three MONTHS.

Max and Lastra need to give it up already and leave Vicky and Ofelia in peace. Viejos rabo verde!

I laughed at Hannah's word play about Lorenzo being FINE/it being ok for her to call him, and her interaction with Pato about it. Rosa is bound to catch her talking to him one of these days. She's just been too busy baby-stealing and covering her tracks the last few months to notice.

I also enjoyed Padre's talk with Luci. I think they are playing Luci's grief just right. You could see her struggling to pretend to be happy when she was with her friends and Pato, and when she saw the picture of Rod's baby girl. But she was honest with Padre Honesto about how she really feels. The Padre gave her good advice I thought.

Thanks as always Martha. I lurvvv that Frigida is taking a shower. How often does she take a shower. once a year? I too am so afraid of the baby being crammed into that make shift box. and why does it even have chicken wire on it! Truly cruel! At the end of every Holywood movies, where there are animals involved, they always have a disclaimer that no animals were hurt while the movie was being shot. This is a real and big cute baby not a doll. Cringe is really aptly said by Anon6:17.

Thank you for recapping for us MartaIvett even though you had such an anxious day, hope it went well.
Loved you referring to Rosa as the wicked witch of the east. Theres karmageddon for her someone should drop a house on that character.
I hope there isn't much more of that baby being with that hobo, it is getting on my nerves. I hope Rosa doesn't decide to do something.

Good work, Marta.

Roselena is in for a serious fate for all this. The flip way in which she talks about Luci's baby most likely being dead is so way beyond abnormal I'm surprised neither of her other children is saying anything, even to the other.

If I were writing this I would have Roselena steal the baby back and get caught by Rodrigo. The fires of hell would feel like a cold fjord compared to his anger if that happened.

Marta-thank you so much for this fab recap and I too hope the sale of your house went well. I forgot to tell you the other day, your grandson is sooo cute! Love the avatar. And amiga, you can use my phrases and titles any time. You use them so well.

I just knew Gagme was so NOT going to be a good Mom, or any type of Mom at all. She just happened to hook Rod the Bod with that bebe. She is adorable. It's sad Gagme is rejecting her bebe. Rod will make a terrific parent though. That little girl will get a lot of love from not only Rod, but Pato, Jana, and Max. I don't think Rosa is capable of any love.

Speaking of Rosa, she sure was staring at the bebe when her car almost hit Don Chelo and lil Mateo. Isn't it funny how Dios always puts her crimes right in her face? First Luci returns to the same house Rosa got rid of Luci from and then she Claudio gets released from prison and she has to deal with the disinternment and then she just happens to run into lil Rodrigo/Mateo on the street. Interesting. Seems Dio IS listening to her, and showing her the error of her ways, which she is so NOT getting.

Poor Luci is suffering, but slowly coming around and worrying about Rod's lil girl. I am glad she is back at work, and about to help kids on the street. I like how she always thinks of others. I like the Padre so much in this TN. I loved how he compared Luci losing the bebe to the Virgin Mary losing Jesus and then finding him in the Temple. Padre Honesto is so wise.

I was really hoping Don Chelo would NOT hit that bottle again, and I too hope he gives it up. I like how Dona Chuy got on him about that and is continuing to keep after him as the advances show. He really needs to clean up his act and I didn't like the way he forced lil Mateo in that carriage either. He needs a bigger one and also some type of a bed. That poor bebe has been sleeping sitting up in that carriage. He is probably uncomfortable.

Sorry I typed she in front of Claudio in my comment. That is a typo.

Marta - Thanks for a lovely recap.

This is tough to watch with no one suspecting RE and Gala. I know Rod and Luci will most likely wind up together raising both kids, but I always hoped he'd "earn it."

Luci not heeding her dream of RE and Gala as nurses taking her baby is colmo. Has she never heard of women's intuition? Luci, follow your instincts. You're praying for your baby to be found, but you don't pay attention to the signals you're given.

The opera singer is a sweet old drunk. Hopefully after he wakes up from downing that bottle, he'll realize Mateo deserves better than he can offer.

I don't know if Luci remembered her dream. She seemed to have forgotten what exactly happened in it as soon as she woke up-- which is normal.

I'm not a big fan of Aldo but i did have to laugh when he said what everyone else is thinking. It is obvious that he like Pato and Jana has absolutely no use for our dear new mother - gag me.

Felt so sorry for Luci during the scene with the padre. It is obvious she is now losing her faith on top of having lost her baby. I keep remembering how young she is and how so much has changed for her in a year, getting married, getting divorced, finding out the truth about her life, having a baby, losing the baby. That's a lot to handle for a 19/20 year old especially a sheltered one from the boonies. I also really felt for her when she helped Pato with the phone and saw the picture of Rod's new baby it must have been like a knife in her heart.

Max seemed a little more subdued in his scene with Vicki who suddenly has grown a backbone. I'm curious to see how that relationship will play out. I can't help thinking that Max drugged and handcuffed the wrong woman, it should have ben Rosa.

Not to be too picky here but the Rosa recognizing, maybe, LRod/Mateo is a bit far fetched. She saw Luci only as a newborn and now thinks a two month old looks like her. That has to be her guilty conscience if she has one. It is too frightening to think what she might do to Don C and the infant.

Martaivett--Now we know why they call you SuperMarta--multitasking. Why didn't you have your house drop on the WW of the West before the signing. Congratulations on the sale.

The title fit perfectly--I liked Avon calling, too.

Three months? I bet it's three WEEKS--unless she can milk some more attention from Rod. I still think the whole "wants a real marriage" Rod is a sham. She never tires of telling Viewerville how much she hates him and wants to make him suffer. The best way is for her to ignore the child and get back to work. I'm pretty sure Julie and RE aren't going to let her go that route.

Too funny, Aldo buying himself a car with Max's funds. We don't know whether he ever found Lastra or not, but Lastra doesn't look as though he's been hobo-ing in the park. He looks clean.

Also, in that exchange Aldo had with Max in the office about the break up with Vicky. Max says that's not what you said in the restaurant, you said you were novios. Aldo replies they really were only friends, but he said that to protect Max and divert suspicion. It wasn't important, but I thought I'd add it.

Gets me why RE even got out of the car, if not to make the point to Viewerville. Knowing her as we do, she would have let Genaro get out so see what was going on--or asked him to drive on and avert her eyes as he did so, since the old guy wasn't even hit.

I missed the sarcasm in Juli's comment about the exemplary marriage. You brought it out.

"Funiculì, Funiculà" is a famous Neapolitan song written by Italian journalist Peppino Turco and set to music by Italian composer Luigi Denza in 1880. It was composed to commemorate the opening of the first funicular cable car on Mount Vesuvius. The 1880 cable car was later destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 1944.(Some remains of the top station were still visible in September 2012).

Six years after "Funiculì, Funiculà" was composed, German composer Richard Strauss heard the song while on a tour of Italy. Thinking that it was a traditional Neapolitan folk song, he later incorporated it into his Aus Italien tone poem. Denza filed a lawsuit against Strauss and eventually won. Strauss was forced to pay him a royalty fee.[1] Another who mistook "Funiculì, Funiculà" for a traditional folk song was Russian composer Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov, who used it in his 1907 work, Neapolitanskaya pesenka (Neapolitan Song).[2][3] Modernist composer Arnold Schoenberg set a version for string quartet[4] which was used in an episode of the TV sitcom Seinfeld.

Here is a link to Andrea Bocelli singing it on Youtube (then pick out his link for Por Ti Volare---it's gorgeous, he sings it in Spanish--I couldn't find his solo version in Italian) Bocelli Funi

Bocelli Por Ti

It went before I could edit the Wikipedia entry for Funiculi.

The live link is there and seems to work...at least for me. Would someone please try it and let us know?

What bothers me the most right now is that unless the nurse confesses or one of the witches slips up they are going to get away with what they did. There is no proof. What they did over and above being heartless is a crime. All three of them belong in jail. Rosa skipping off to the manicomio and later being released "cured" would be completely unsatisfying.

If the state can't punish them then God has to and it has to fit the crime. What Rosa values most is her version of the perfect family so she has to lose her family. J and G most value their looks and money therefore they must end up with neither.

Oops I didn't mean the nurse i meant the janitor.

Max and Rosa are starting to lose it. I can't believe that Rosa looked at Mateo and thought he was BabyRod. (All newborns babies look the same and they change too much in 2 months). I think like others have said that she is just being confronted with her crime. She should see BabyRod's everywhere. And poor, dumb Max, telling Vicky to largate as she's walking out the door. She's over you, Bud. So glad this story line didn't get dragged out.

The pacing on this show has been really good. It's been a little slow lately but for the most part, everything moved ahead bit by bot with reasonable timing so that none of these weeks seemed unnecessary (looking at you LQNPA). And no one's been raped! Score one for these writers, unless they screw it up in the last weeks with Lastra and Ofelia. They better not.

Kelly

Kelly, I too was like WTH when RE said the baby looked like Rod... the baby was only hours old or maybe one day old when it dissappeared, and it has been over two months... how in the world would RE say it looked like Rod, although she is Rod's mother so she should remember what Rod looked like at 2 mos... however, everyone else said that when he was born, the baby looked like Luciana, not like Rod. BUt like you said, newborn babies are very much alike and change LOTS by a few months age.

i thought it was funny that Mati commented that since Gagme is hiring a nanny and two nurses for the baby, if Frigida also works for them, she would be Gagme's own nanny. LOL!

Thanks Marta (and Mad on Thurs) for giving the scene by scene play that I love reading so much. It was a tiring week in Lake Woebegon (any Garrison fans?) so I've been offline, and y'all have covered everything in your comments.

Like most of you, I find the mistreatment of the baby hard to watch and I ff through it. Don Chelo isn't fit no matter how much he wants to be and I can't stand the angry bickering between Chelo and Chuy, which is scaring the baby for real. Trust, bonding, safety ... it's all forming in Lil Matt/Roddie right now so there's real and lasting damage happening. The writers aren't into that kind of real life detail but they should get a clue if they're going to persist in kidnapping babies in novelas.

Gala has gone to Novelaland's Place Beyond Human Feeling. She kidnapped a baby and threw it in the garbage out of hate. She doesn't want to hold, feed or look at her own baby. We can only expect more of the same from her.

Rosa will be paranoid about the baby she saw being wheeled across the street. So true, Mad, Dios does put her crimes right in her face. Where would a street person get a baby about the same age as Luci's unless he found said baby in the trash on a rainy night, she'll ask. Some babies are recognizable as they grow and this one is her flesh and blood. But, shudder ... she was capable of throwing away her own grandchild and if she encounters Lil Roddy, she'll try to do it again. Terrible things happen in Novelaland and this one just makes me sad.

The relationship between Rod and Luci doesn't have that pull and passion in this section of the novela. It's overwhelmed by grief and the reality of his real life with GagMe. Rod really irritates me because he shows up, as always, and tries to be comforting and supportive but he still seriously lacks follow-through and a backbone. He's no Juan del Diablo that's for sure.

Anita, I too noted Aldo telling Max that he was covering for him by pretending to be Vicki's novio. We all know that Aldo was railroaded into the novio bit by Vicki so he's actually telling Max the truth of the matter in this scene though Aldo, the smooth operator, is making himself look selfless in the process. Max damn near snapped Aldo's throat because he thought Aldo was into his girl so Max should be just a little contrite, if he were capable of that.

Nothing was accomplished on either side, by Vicki going to Max's apartment except that we see that Max has lost his old chops or he would have intimidated her right into bed.

Lastra... what IS he still around for? I thought his park lurking would come in handy in the babynapping somehow, but not so. His storyline needs to get somewhere or go away.

Estelita's odd speaking voice: I mentioned Ofelia Guilmain (Brig's real life mother) who, it seemed to me, was given a part in La Otra as a plum for a long career or because she was under contract and had to be used, because she was barely in good enough shape for a role. I think the same of Este. She can hardly deliver the lines. Just my opinion.

Thanks Anita for the history on Funiculi, Funicula. More is there than I would have thought and it's such a catchy chorus that it's no wonder it came to the attention of several composers ... and I never imagined that the song was actually about a funicula. I figured it was an Italian word I'd never 'get.'

It is an odd subject for a song, but I guess if trains can be muses for songwriters, then why not this form of transportation?

On the subject of music, if anyone wants to be in San Diego on March 16, the opera is having special performances of "Cruzar la Cara de la Luna" with Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan. Yep. Mariachi opera. A musical novela (which is pretty much all opera).

HOLA,HOLA,HOLA AMIGA(O)S,

I have missed you all so much. I have also missed all and any novelas of the last 6 months. I was literally stuck in WA State for all of that long with NO TV, only Hulu, and missed the beginning of the novelas they were showing.

I am happy to say that I am now living in Playas de Rosarito, Baja California, about 20 miles from Tijuana- whoo hoo! Mom and cats and I got here two weeks ago. We're about 1.5 blocks from the ocean. Mind you, it ain't Cancun, but a bit more quieter, more vacant lots and under construction, showing that the Mexican economy is getting better.

Don't listen to the media about how dangerous things are. Sure, if you're looking for drugs and danger you'll find it. Crossing the border by car or foot from either side, there are NO problems. No one is trying to kidnap you or harm you. There is a military presence, but nothing to scare you. I'll get off my "caja de jabón" now and stop preaching about border crossings.

My neighbors are a mixture of Mexican, American, Canadian and British. There is a Super Walmart and outdoor mall complete with Sally's Beauty Supply, GNC, cinema and Applebees a little further than walking distance. I have also called and Splangished my way through ordering a Dominos pizza the other day with success-Ha!--

That being said, I am in the process of looking for a Spanish Language Immersion class, as well as the bilingual schools (one I am told is in my neighborhood) as I am certified TEFL instructor I can learn my new language and teach my old.

My husband will joining us late next month, he needs to finish up a work assignment in his home town in Durango, MX.

I will keep you posted on my new life here and will catch up on the TN's when my satellite is installed next month.

Feels good to be back posting here.

VALEENA...so glad all is well with you and you were able to order a pizza by telephone...speaking Spanish on the telephone is like graduating suma cum laude in my opinion. Way to go! and glad you're back with us.

The stories about Mexico are like the stories about America. To the Europeans, it sounds like we have muggings and killings going on every day in our neighborhoods, whereas for most of us that is not so. And would that it were not so in the poorer neighborhoods where good people are often terrorized and harmed.

CAROL...I agree with you about Estellita's oddly uninflected voice. It's absolutely without tone. She delivers her lines like the most woeful of non-thespians. I don't know why she was cast, poor soul, because clearly, acting is not her gift.

Nice to meet you, Valeena. No better immersion course than watching an evening of novelas! Glad to hear that Tijuana isn't what we always heard.

My cats send greeting to yours. That's my Figaro guarding my posts.

US television has influenced people in cities other than the one in the story. After 20+ years of various Law & Order incarnations and more years than I can count of sensationalist journalism everyone outside of New York thinks we're awash in crime. It's really safe here, too.

Gracias, Anita, for explaining "Fanicula." The first time I ever heard it (many years ago) was in something for children, sung by children, with stupid lyrics. I have hated it every since.

Welcome back Valeena! Nice to see you here again and to get an update on what you've been up to.

So Rosa thinks she recognizes LRod/Mateo when she sees him with Don Chelo. Dare I say it - the infamous novela Call of the Blood. LOL

I wish LRod/Mateo had started to scream when RE looked at him!

Anita

I thought he did. I'm also hoping that Gala's baby screams every time one of the witches looks at her, we know they won't touch her. I'm also looking forward to a spitting up on them scene.

He stared at her really long and hard and then started to cry.

Smart kid.
