Refugio Para el Amor #129 Mon 10/8/12 5 Months Later Brings-- 2 Baby Showers, 1 Early Baby, and a Papa and Grandpa 1/2 a World Away

Canada Doc has just told Gala and Rod they are having a beautiful, healthy baby GIRL! Gala looks like she wants to perform a sex change operation in utero. She tells the doc he must be mistaken. Rod looks happy for the first time in weeks. The doctor, trying to appease the ticked off mama, tells them there is a 10% chance of error, but he’s pretty sure it’s a girl. Gala latches on to the 10% as being his lack of professionalism, because SHE, the all-knowing, KNOWS that she’s having a BOY! Rod apologizes for his rude wife, but the doc politely says they can come back next time to confirm. Nope. The only way Gala is coming back to this fourth rate doctor’s office, is with the proof in hand to that he is WRONG! Rod looks like he wants to disappear into the wall.

Back in Mexico, in Casa TL, Frigida is complaining (what’s new?) about having to buy a ton of groceries for the ever shrinking TL family. Matilde tells her it’s normal for children to fly from the nest. Frigida calls them a bunch of ingrates (bola de ingratos). She brings up Connie as the prime example. Mati tells her to mind her own business. Speaking of…Connie waltzes into the kitchen, looking happy and content. She greets Frigida (who does her best to suck up), kisses Mati, and asks for her sister. (Why would she ruin her good mood by going to visit that witch?)

At TL HQ, Max is looking at his phone, expecting that special text message, like a 13 year old girl with a crush. However, Vicky is not playing his game anymore, and is not answering his texts. He wonders, how she could live without him? Ha! Aldo knocks and enters. He wants to come back to work. General Services (office administration) is a mess without him. (I mean, where will people get their toilet paper and cleaning supplies with Aldo gone?) Max only wants to know about one thing, before they open job negotiations—Vicky. Aldo admits that Vicky hasn’t answered his calls or text messages, and wants nothing to do with him, or Osito- meaning you, Max.

Oscar comes in to get Max’s signature, and once again gives Aldo a hard time about his laziness. “What’s up Mr. President? Have you finally decided to come back to work?” Aldo says he’s dying to come back to work. Max gives him permission to return, and then dismisses him from his sight. Oscar looks confused about what exactly is going on, but Max dismisses him too before he can ask questions.

At Casa TL, Connie comes into the library just as Roselena is finishing up a call with the private investigator she’s hired to follow Max. Doesn’t seem that he’s found anything.  Rosa explains to Connie that she’s hired the P.I. to find out who is Max’s lover. It doesn’t matter if it takes days or months; she’s patient.
C: Roselena, what are you going to gain from this?
R: I going make Max stop making a fool of me!
C:  *Sigh*

In Connie and Melissa’s comfy apartment, Melissa is making the bed and speaking to Claudio on the phone. She tells him that she’s had a job offer. Claudio isn’t surprised, since she’s so intelligent, and congratulates her. Melissa invites him out to eat with her mom, Oscar and Aldo. He accepts, but wants to know if there’s a special reason for the dinner. “Yes, it’s my birthday.” (Meaning, I am even further away from being jailbait. Hint, hint.) CL sends her double wishes of happiness and accepts the invitation. Melissa can barely contain her glee.

Gala is getting dressed after the doctor’s visit, and still bitching about the baby being a girl. “How dare that fourth rate quack tell me I’m having a girl, if he’s not even sure!” Rod is tired of hearing it. He’s going to be happy with a girl. “Little girls are lovely, sweet, loving. I still remember when Hannita was born.” Gala’s not buying his cheesy sentimentality (cursilerias).  She knows he would give his life to have a boy child. Rod rubs his forehead, trying to shake off his major headache. Unfortunately, his headache is in human form, standing right in front of him. He doesn’t get why she has to make a drama out of everything. Gala wants them to travel to Mexico in five months so that she can have the baby there. She doesn’t want to wait to fly until later than that, because she doesn’t want to risk HER life (no mention of risking the baby’s life as well). “Perfect! You could go back tomorrow if you wanted.”

Happier times are being had at Melissa’s birthday dinner in D.F. CL thanks Melissa once again for inviting him along for such a special occasion. Melissa says it’s special because HE’S there, and does her usual twinkling at him. CL-ueless smiles back. Connie looks worried, and says it’s a shame Luci can’t be there to join them. CL gets misty and sentimental. He feels so fortunate to have a daughter like Luci. Melissa asks that he advise them when Luci goes into labor. CL sees no problem with this, as Luci holds them in high regard. She cares about them all—well ALMOST all of them (we can safely assume Rosa is excluded from her like list). Oscar joins the merry little group, making his apologies for being late.
CL: Melissa, this must be a very happy day for you.
M: I’m already happy, thanks to you.
Connie and Oscar share a knowing look. We do not see CL’s face to see how he took this comment. It likely sailed right over his clueless head. Boisterous Aldo joins the group. He teases his sister about getting old and points to imaginary crow’s feet around her eyes. CL teases him good naturedly and says his sister isn’t a year older, she’s a year prettier. Melissa is blushing three shades of red, and can’t pry the smile off her face, after that compliment. Oscar offers a toast to the most brilliant lawyer in her class (generación) and the most lovely as well. Collective awwws from the group, and a big smile from Melissa. But she can’t take her eyes off of CL.

In Het Het, Magda and Paz are working on pots, while Ariche is displaying his piggy banks for Vio, and Luci is finishing up a design. They all think it will be a great pottery design, but Luci corrects them. This is the design for her baby’s room. They are little primitive animal drawings, like you would find in Native American art and weavings.  Very cute, unique, and unisex.

We next see the designs morph from the page and onto the wall. It’s 5 MONTHS LATER. The wall in the baby’s room in D.F. is painted a light terra cotta color, and the designs are in a very dark terra cotta. Vio tells Luci that the design came out perfectly. Luci now has a pronounced baby bump popping through her white t-shirt. The golden baby crib is in the center of the room, with white bedding, and a pastel blue mobile with hanging pastel colored animals (including a pink hippo). Luci tempts some more telenovela anvils by saying she is going to have the baby sleep at her side in its basinet initially, because she doesn’t want to be separated from him/her for even an instant. The baby moves and Aunty Vio puts her hand on the baby bump to feel it.

In the Dungeon in the Sky, Gala’s sporting high heels with her baby bump. She’s ticked off that Rod got his way and the baby crib (with all blue bedding) has been placed in the bedroom next to her bed. Julie tells her to fake being happy about it. Gala says she’ll pretend to be pleased, but they’re crazy if they think she’s going to wake up every three hours to feed the brat. Julie wants to speak about more important things than feeding her grandchild, like the baby shower. Yep, Gala has already informed the photographers. “I want everyone in the country to know that I’m the woman who’s giving Rodrigo TL his heir.” They get ready to go to the OBGyn so that Gala can finally know if she’s having a girl or a boy. Gala is SURE that the Canada doc was mistaken. “I can feel it. It’s going to be a boy.”

Déjà vu all over again… “Congratulations! You’re having a girl.”  Dr. Nice gets an earful. “It can’t be a girl! Look again! You must be mistaken!  It’s not going to be a GIRL!” Dr. Nice notes that Rod is going to be very happy. Gala prohibits the doctor from telling Rod the sex of the baby. Julie tells her to chill. If it’s a girl, there’s nothing they can do about it. Plus, Rod already knows. What’s she trying to hide? Gala says she wants Rod to have the hope that Canada Doc was mistaken. Plus, she doesn’t want Rosa to find out. “Don’t be absurd! She’s the first one you should tell.” “The last thing I need is for that domestica (drink!, but only if you’re not pregnant) to be pregnant with a boy!” She grabs the doctor’s arm.
G: You must know. You must know if Luciana is going to have a girl or a boy. Tell me!
Doc: (Extracts his arm.) I don’t know Señora. Luciana has not come back to do an ultrasound. I don’t know. And even if I knew, I wouldn’t tell you. Excuse me.
He walks out on the two witches and gets called an imbecile by Gala for his trouble.

Pato’s physical therapist Jorge coaches Pato through raising both his arms at the same time. Pato does so with great concentration and effort. His fingers curl into his hands, and his left arm (brazo izquierdo) is a bit weaker than the right, but he does it! He also manages to lower them without letting them fall uncontrollably. This is amazing progress. They do it again, this time with Pato cradling a ball. Jorge is very pleased with the progress, but doesn’t want Pato to push it. Pato’s motivation is still to embrace his nephew/niece when s/he is born. Jorge is going to give him a few special exercises so that he can grab hold (agarrar) with more force.

Rosa comes into Pato’s room just as Jorge leaves. She gets confirmation from Pato that Luci has returned to D.F. and is in her apartment that CL bought for her. He gives her too much information. She wonders if Pato has visited Luci yet. No, but he intends to soon. Rosa says, if he doesn’t mind, she’d like to go along when he visits. (NOOOOOOO!!!!!!)
R: I want to know where my eldest grandchild is going to live.
P: Don’t worry Mama. Your eldest granddaughter or grandson will be very happy, because s/he will be surrounded by love from the moment s/he is born.
R: In any case, I would like to know if Luci will permit me to get to know the home in which my grandson or granddaughter will live.
Rosa remembers to pretend to look happy while she spews this b.s., and plasters on a fake smile. “How exciting.” (Come on Pato. You are too smart to fall for this crap!)

Gala calls Rosa and fesses up to the horrible crime of being pregnant with a girl. Rosa coldly says it’s a shame she won’t be giving her son a boy child. All they need would be for Luci to give him a boy. (These stupid women don’t know Rod at all. He’ll love a boy or a girl equally, and one or the other won’t make him love Luci more, or Gala less than he already does.) “La domestica (drink!) can’t have Rod’s baby boy. She can’t!”  Rod’s arrival cuts this conversation short. Gala puts on her best fake smile and tells her “amor” that tomorrow is the baby shower and he has to be there. Rod says he can’t. The day after tomorrow he’s headed to Shanghai and has a bunch of work to do before then. Gala sighs, but holds her tongue. Rod asks how the doc appointment went. Gala lies through her gigantic choppers and tells Rod the doc couldn’t tell the sex of the baby due to its position. Gala calls the doc useless (inutil). Rod thinks they should just chill about the sex issue (the baby’s, not their own lack of sex issue) and just wait till the baby is born. It will be a beautiful surprise. “Well, I don’t think the same.” She waddles off to the bedroom on her sky high heels. Rod sighs and rolls his eyes.

Having a much better evening at home are CL and Luci. We get to see more of her apartment as the two enjoy a meal at Luci’s dining table. The beautiful apartment is decorated just as we would imagine. Warm earth tones and pastel colors (nothing like the cold Dungeon in the Sky), plants, and art work. CL compliments her on the baby room decoration. Tomorrow is her baby shower, which Luci calls the baby welcoming party, in her apartment. CL is happy about the party, but worried because he will be going on a business trip the day after tomorrow. He’s going to Shanghai (uh oh!). It’s very important to close this deal for the business. But he’ll stay if she needs him. Luci says no worries. The doc said the baby is coming in more or less two weeks. Plenty of time. (My telenovela anvil senses are tingling.) CL is still worried (as he should be). “Don’t worry. Your grandchild will wait for you.” CL gingerly mentions that Rod is also worried and is also traveling with him to Shanghai. Rod wants to be in the city when the baby is born. Luci looks like she would prefer that Rod stayed in Shanghai. She doesn’t want any kind of run-ins or problems with Gala. CL thinks Gala is Rod’s problem; Luci shouldn’t worry herself about that. CL has learned that Rod is an upright man. Luci agrees. It’s just that they’ve have a crap love story. CL tells her to not think about the past.
CL: Look towards the future—yours and your child’s.
L: Papa, Rod is the love of my life.
Sad looks between CL and Luci.

The next day, the Vecinidad gang and CL are decorating Luci’s apartment for the baby welcoming party. There is tons of yummy food, rainbow colored balloons, and rainbow colored decorations.  In the baby’s room, Estelita is showing Luci the finished basinet that they all made. They have somehow taken a basket and Serena’s mom’s wedding dress, and made a beautiful dream basinet, with all the trimmings. Estelita explains how they all contributed to its making, even Marianita who sewed on the embellishments. Luci wants to show it to her dad. Estelita wants to know when Don Claudi (first time we’ve heard this nickname for him) is leaving on his trip. She is shocked to learn both the papa and grandpapa of the baby will be away. (We’re worried too Estelita!) Luci says they’ll just be gone 5-6 days. She is so anxious to have her baby in her arms, right here. (Anvil alert!) Marianita comes in to say everything is ready for the party.

Over in the Dungeon in the Sky, a less welcoming baby party is happening. The party planner has laid out champagne glasses (naturally), small appetizers (bocadillos), a blue and white cake, blue and white cupcakes, and blue and white balloons and accessories. She would have personalized things more if she knew the name of the baby. Julie hustles the planner out before she has to admit they can’t name the baby until her daughter has accepted the reality of the sex of the baby (perhaps a nice unisex name like Guadalupe?). Fernanda and Valentina arrive to help with set-up, but the party planner has done it all. The happy mama-to-be (NOT!) comes out of the bedroom bitching because she just spoke to Rod who says he will be in a meeting and can’t make the shower. Val thinks that men don’t usually attend baby showers anyway, and find them boring. “Ay, pardon me! I must be speaking to the woman who’s the most knowledgeable about baby showers!” Nice to know Gala’s advanced pregnancy hasn’t dulled her sarcastic sense of humor. Val points out that had she invited Marcos or Gabriel, then Rod might have come too.
G: Valentina. Why don’t you shut up! You only open your mouth to say your idiocies. I’m fed up with you! (Me tienes harta!)
V: Well, if you’re fed up with me Gala, it’s best that I go so that you feel more tranquil.
Val stomps out. Woohoo!! Julie thinks Val must be joking. Fernanda isn’t so sure and tells Gala that she’s rude (grosera) sometimes. (Sometimes?! Sometimes!!!!) She mentions that she and Val didn’t buy her a gift yet because they wanted to know what Gala wants. “I don’t need anything! Not even you guys. What I want is for Rod to be here!” Fernanda says, well if you don’t need us then I’ll go. And with that, exits Gala’s only baby shower guest, and her last remaining friend. Julie tells Gala to calm the hell down and stop running off the only friends that she has. “What are we going to do with the food?” Gala is sure her other expected guests, Rosa, Connie, Hannah, and even Melissa (La Hipiosa/the Hippie), will eat their fill. But they all get on her nerves. (Me caye pesimo.)

In the TL kitchen, Rosa is trying to figure out what’s up with her women folk and their planned arrival to Gala’s baby shower. Frigida, who will be serving the food, plans to catch a ride over with all of them. “Who? Hannah hasn’t arrived. Connie is seeing about the sale of some land, and Gala’s baby shower is not important to her. And Melissa, no. That girl is a drag (pesada). We erased her from the guest list.” (I’m sure Melissa was very happy about that.) The phone rings. Hannah, who is in Melissa’s car with her two cousins, lies about a meeting with her calculus teacher about an exam. Melissa, who she says dropped by school to surprise her (I’m sure, the only true part of this story), will take her to Gala’s later. Melissa is not happy about all the lies Hannah just told. Hannah prefers to go to Luci’s shower, rather than Gala’s.

Luci’s gang is enjoying themselves at the party, when Hannah, Melissa and Aldo arrive bearing gifts. Lorenzo immediately greets Hannah, and they make eyes at each other. It looks like this is the first time they’ve laid eyes on/spoken to each other since the phone call incident over 5 months back. Aldo greets Lor with a big hug. The next guests to arrive are Pato and Mati. Luci greets them both with kisses. Everyone is pinned with special baby shower corsages.

The welcome at Gala’s is much frostier when Rosa and Frigida arrive. Viewerville notices that Rosa is wearing the ugliest dress in her wardrobe—the same black and mud colored dress she wore for Rod’s civil wedding to Gala. Gala is also wearing the same color scheme, and Julie is wearing all black with a dead animal scarf to protect her from the chill in the Dungeon in the Sky. The color scheme reveals their true feelings about the little Gala on the way. Rosa explains Hannah and Connie’s absence. Frigida wonders when she should serve the appetizers to the ONE guest. Julie tells her to hold off a bit. Frigida immediately knows to whip up a mimosa for Julie, and Gala and Rosa order festive tap water. Julie shows some manners we didn’t know she had, and thanks Frigida for helping them. Gala lies to Rosa and says her friends are just late. Then she orders Frigida to serve the appetizers to her ONE guest. Gala assures Rosa the decorations are perfectly appropriate, for her BOY.

Things are much livelier, and the food looks way more delicious, at Luci’s shower. Luci thanks Pato for coming and takes his hand. She continues to hold his hand as they chat and joke about her growing baby belly. In the background, Rod arrives carrying a bouquet of flowers. I guess that meeting wasn’t so important after all. Vio loudly tells Rod to come in, and everyone stops in their tracks. He is wearing a deep violet colored sweater and carrying a bouquet of violet and pink hydrangeas. He approaches Luci with a huge smile on his face. She looks wary. “I only came to bring flowers to the mother of my child.” Luci swallows hard and tries to hold back tears. Pato looks worried.

Luci takes the bouquet and thanks Rod, but there are tears shining in her eyes. Fabian tries to lighten the mood. He offers Rod food and drink and invites him to join the festivities.  Serena and Lorenzo join in welcoming him too. Hannah asks him to not mention her presence there to their mother. CL then takes Rod aside and asks how he is and if he’s ready for their trip. They are both worried about leaving Luci, but Pato says he’ll be looking out for her. Alone in another part of the room, Luci lets the tears flow.

A day or two later, Luci is visiting Estelita with Vio. They are headed out to look at the business Vio wants to invest in. They won’t tell Estelita what it is, but it will be for Vio and Serena, since Ofelia is happy at TL Corporation. Vio convinces Luci to stay with Estelita and rest, while she takes Luci’s driver and goes out to look at the business location. Luci sits down, but doesn’t seem to be feeling well as Estelita tells her apartment 11 has become unoccupied, and Lorenzo can move in. Estelita goes in the kitchen to make Luci some tea, and Luci starts clenching her hand and then her head in apparent great pain. She calls for Estelita, then starts panting and tells Estelita that her head is hurting, a LOT. Estelita, the WORST person to be with in a crisis, wrings her hands and asks what she should do. (Oh, I don’t know? How about call an AMBULANCE!!!! I swear, if she comes out and says, “I don’t know nothin’ ‘bout birthin’ no babies!”, I’m going to throw something at the tv!)

Meanwhile, a meeting is in progress at TL HQ. Pato tells everyone that Rod and CL have arrived in Shanghai and are in their hotel. It’s a 13 hour time difference. They get to talking about the Canada projects Rod has left pending. Oscar will be leaving right away to Canada to supervise. Max suggests he take Connie with him. (Oh no! Yet two more good people who will be out of the country.) Max takes the opportunity to make a dig at Rod and CL for making this foolhardy decision to partner with people on the other side of the world in Asia. (More like, how dare they make a decision without MY consent?!)

Luci is still in great distress, and useless Estelita seems to think the solution is to make her drink some damn tea. “What do I do Luciana?!” Good grief woman!!

Oblivious to the danger Luci is in right this minute, CL is telling Rod all about the cool places to visit in Shanghai over drinks in their hotel bar. Rod doesn’t think they’ll have time. He just wants to close the deal, and get back home. Rod asks CL how Luci’s pregnancy has been. His child is about to be born, and he knows basically nothing. CL says all has been well. In a few weeks, Rod’s child and his grandchild will be born.

Said grandchild looks ready to come into the world right this minute, and also to take his mother OUT of it, judging by the strange massive headache Luci has and how sweaty and feverish she is, while her labor pains seem to also have started. Luci points to her cell phone which has her doctor’s number in it.

Mati leaves Casa TL to visit her sister, but NOT Luci as Frigida accuses her of doing. Mati informs Frigida that Luci has her own apartment. Frigida uses the same saying Gala did about Luci a few weeks ago—The monkey dressed in silk, is still a monkey. “What’s the point of her having so much money, if she’s never going to have as much personality as me, nor my class?” (Wow! She’s almost as delusional as Gala!)

CL and Rod continue their heart to heart chat. Rod still doesn’t understand why his mother did what she did. All he knows is that she ruined his life and he lost Luci. CL appreciates his openness, but this is his daughter and grandchild they’re talking about, and he’ll defend them against anyone. Rod swears that he will do the same. (He’s failed miserably up till now.) “Luci’s child will be the light of my life.”  He’ll raise his child with values and fill him/her with love. CL says he and Luci won’t stop him from being close to his child, but Rod has to remember he has a harpy wife. CL doesn’t want Gala to cause any problems for Luci because Rod is seeing his child. Rod repeats that he will protect his child from anyone, including Gala. “My kids are first above anything else in my life.”

Good Lord!  Estelita now seems to think that the most useful thing she can do is hold Luci’s hand as she reports that Luci’s doc is not answering the phone. Mati arrives, and seems just as useless as her sister in a crisis. She does manage to tell Luci that she thinks what’s wrong is that Luci’s blood pressure shot up, which is bad for pregnant mothers (no sh!t Sherlock!). Luci screams at them, “TAKE ME TO A HOSPITAL!!!!” Estelita picks up the phone and Mati (who must be smoking crack) tells her to call Roselena! Luci manages to scream out NOT to call Rosa.

Near the vecinidad, Lastra is lurking looking for Ofelia, and is caught by Ivan. Ivan has waited 5 long months for a phone call from Lastra and money (lana), that has yet to come!

At the high school, seems that Boris has decided to make nice with his ex girlfriend Hannah. High school is ending soon, and they are speaking about their university plans. Hannah is going to Florence, Italy to study architecture. Boris doesn’t look happy about this news. It won’t be very easy to stalk her all the way from Mexico. Lula looks pleased as punch that her rival will soon be thousands of miles away.

Oscar takes Connie out for coffee and begs her to come with him to Canada for a week or two. “Tell me yes, please. I need you.” Connie tries, but can’t resist.

Lastra and Ivan continue to argue about money. Ivan wants more. Lastra says he will speak to the boss. As they argue, Lastra sees Luci emerge, clearly in pain, being supported by Mati and Estelita. The ladies get into a taxi. Lastra’s attention is brought back momentarily to Ivan, when he threatens to tell the police that Inferno was a money laundering front if he doesn’t get more money!  However, Lastra still watches as the taxi pulls away.

In the clinic, Mati and Estelita worry and wring their hands in the waiting room. Estelita wanted to call Paz, but Luci doesn’t want to worry her. Mati thinks that someone should be informed, unfortunately they forgot Luci’s purse and cell phone (with all her contacts) at home. They have no way of contacting Lorenzo. They did leave a note for him in Estelita’s apartment. (Idiots! Split up. One person stays with Luci, while the other goes to Lorenzo’s taco corner. Or, hey, use a hospital phone or pay phone and call TL HQ to inform Pato, Max, Gabe and Marcos. Anyone, but Rosa!) Mati finally has an idea about whom to call.

We then see Rod, fast asleep in his Shanghai hotel room, when his cell phone rings. Rod picks up, but it is NOT Mati. Instead it’s Gala, bitching at him about not calling her to inform her he had arrived. Rod reminds her there is a 13 hour difference and he’s asleep. Gala doesn’t care. “Can’t you leave me in peace, even for one night in Shanghai?” “Not even at the end of the world Rodrigo.” He hangs up in frustration and tries to go back to sleep fitfully.

Back in D.F., Pato has just arrived home and is met by Rosa. He informs her Max is also on his way back to eat with them. Pato’s cell phone rings, and he asks Rosa to help him with the headset. It’s Mati (wait, you mean she had a frigging cell phone this whole time and didn’t make a call before now?!); she tells Pato about needing to take Luci to a clinic because she wasn’t well (se puso mal). Oh crap! Rosa is right there and hears it all. Pato tries to get the details from Mati while Rosa anxiously looks on.

The last thing we see as this episode comes to a close is Luci unconscious in a hospital bed, sweating and feverish, being fed oxygen. Oh no!!!!  History is repeating itself.

Avances: Everyone finds out about Luci’s condition and panics and worries-- everyone except Gala and Rosa, who wish for her death. The doctor comes into the waiting room and tells everyone they are having trouble controlling Luci’s blood pressure. The doctors prepare to do an emergency c-section.

Good work, Vivi. Great opening snark with Gala looks like she wants to perform a sex change operation in utero. She's becoming as delusional as her suegra.

History can't be allowed to repeat itself. Luci has more friends than enemies so they should be able to protect her. Estellita is useless, though, and for a second I thought she was going to pull the Prissy bit and I would have heaved something at the TV. For God's sake how difficult is it to call an ambulance?

Vivi, great recap and so fast. Thanks for the details of the conversations.
Like you, I wanted to throw things at the TV when Estelita was with Luci; she was trying to tell Luci that she was probably OK; and Mati is as helpful as a trap door in a canoe, calling Rosa?? Really?? Like calling a great dane to help protect a sirloin steak.
I couldn't figure out why Luci only went once or twice to the doctor and then basically had no prenatal care for 5 months.
What purpose did it serve to have Lastra see Luci heading for the hospital?

WOOOORRRSSSTT!!! Episode EVEEEERRRR!!!!!

Everything seemed SOOOOOO RUSHED!!!!
Aaaarggghhh!!!!
I did not have time to digest a single scene before being RUSHED into the Next!
And What's up with Estelita OMG???? Why did it take 33+minutes before it dawned on her Luciana was in labor... I mean SERIOUSLY!!!!
Then did she have the nerve to say "Call TORRESLANDA"

I just couldn't handle this episode. It feels like the Beginning of the END!!!!
My anxiety kicked in big time just watching the HORRIFIC Episode!!!

I hope redemption Draweth Nigh!!!

Urban-Luci has lots of friends, but fate seems to be taking them all away at a crucial time, leaving her vulnerable. The writers were just finding all kinds of ways to get all of her friends out of the way.

"Like calling a great dane to help protect a sirloin steak." LOL Emarie! Indeed. I don't know what either Mati or Estelita were smoking. They are both clearly lacking in the critical thinking department.

AMOR- Yes, this episode sure did bring on strong emotions. I think it felt rushed because this is the beginning of a major turning point. I'm afraid we're going to have to buckle our seatbelts, because with only 35 capitulos to go, that means that things will likely get REALLY bleak, before the happy ending. Take a deep breath, and keep chanting, "It's only a telenovela." :)

Emarie- It seems that Luci kept herself mainly in Het Het all those five months, and that's why she didn't have her follow-up prenatal care.

@Emarie I LOVE your anecdotes "Trap door in a Canoe & Great Dane protecting the steak". LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!

Vivi ~ I really have to keep my seatbelt on throughout this ride! It's almost nerve wracking!

After re-watching tonight's episode... I don't think Claudio is as oblivious as we first thought. Did you see the look and hint of a WINK ( and glitter in his eyes) that he gave Meliissa after the Birthday toast.
I think he knows Melissa has the HOTTS for him & is just playing coy.

I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow get together in the end. I know he was locked up for 20 years but I don't think his antennae of a woman's Obvious flirting and cupids bow aimed directly at him was left behind in that cell.

Seat belt fastened ~ I'm ready wherever this "Shelter for Love" takes us!

Vivi, thank you for such a full and detailed recap.

It was hard to watch Rod come back into Luci's life when she was so happy without him. It was hard to see Rosa in the right place at the right time to get a bead on Luci's whereabout then be about the first to know 'se puso mal.' Hard to watch everyone go somewhere and leave Luci unprotected in DF, and with Estelita who has always seemed more than a little slow (does this actress have too much botox in her face so she can't move it or speak clearly, or has she had a stroke? Seriously.) And who is Este's partner in her big moment? Mati ... jeez.

It's a bad capitulo when Juli shows up as a voice of grace and reason.

Did Max start to write a text to Vicki that started 'te quiero'? Went by fast.

Maybe Lastra will get to tell someone that Luci is doubled over and on her way to the hospital. But who? Ofelia? Lorenzo? Other? We shall see.

I WILL have to repeat, "it's only a telenovela" Vivi, 'cause here come Novelaland shenanigans big time. Hope there are no deaths in the good guy camp, that's my wish as I click my heels together three times and say ... There's no place like Het Het. Grab that hijo and go to there.

Vivi, thanks once again.

What a terrible bunch of women! I did laugh when I found that Gagme doesn't have any friends. It couldn't happen to a more evil person.

Didn't Luci want to have he baby in Het Het but Papa Claudio wanted her to have it in MC? He should have taken her to China with him.

I just know that the TN gods are keeping their little black book of bad deeds of the Three Blonde Witches aka as The Killer Bees and that there will be fitting retribution for each of them.

Estelita and Mati are totally worthless, call the TL's and Rosa especially, give me a break. Haven't they learned anything?

I am afraid that the next 30 episodes or so are gong to be real tear jerkers so I better get to Sam's and stock up on Kleenex.

Rosemary Primera

I was relieved to NOT have seen Achiles and Procopio and their Batman & Robin antics in tonight's episode. That would definitely have been OVERKILL!!!
Phew!
It's inopportune that every single person that Luciana has been there for in their time of need Was NOT there for her in her time of need.
Forgive me y'all. But I just wanted to kick Gala down a flight of stairs ~ I'm sure Valentina wanted too. LOL!!!

First I have to thank all of the recappers for all of the fabulous recaps! I fell behind in watching the episodes mid-summer and I am only now caught up. I've enjoyed reading along with all of your posts and comments as I caught up. I can't believe there are only 35 episodes left! There seems to be so much left to wrap up.

I definitely thought there was going to be a baby switch... but I guess that is out.

Amor: I agree that it did seem rushed. Especially after so many drawn out episodes with so little plot happening.

Pato should have known better than to say anything out loud when he took that phone call! He should have turned and rolled outside. Sigh. Poor Luci... worst case scenario headed her (and Claudio's) way. Rosa standing by waiting to take her baby away while she is laying dying in the hospital. Maybe it won't happen that way. I'm sure she at least won't die.

Estellita gave birth to her own child... you think she would recognize a pregnant woman in trouble! Has anyone seen her in any other novelas? Is she always so even-keeled and slow or is that her acting? Vivi, your Gone With the Wind reference cracked me up.

Why is it really that Oscar has against Aldo? I mean poor Aldo has his shortcomings. But this Gayan guy ceases every Opportunity to hurl insults at my funny little Aldo. Seriously he (Aldo) aways puts a smile on my face as questionable as a lot of his actions are.

Oscar even talks bad to him in front of Both their Bosses ~ Maximino. & his madre Connie.
C'mon Oscar our dating the guy's mom while trying desperately to get her in .... Well we all know hat Oscar wants.
;-)

AMOR- Glad you are safely buckled in and ready for the last part of the journey to the Shelter for Love. Indeed, Aquiles and Copio would have been too much. I figure they have been up to the same old stuff the last five months anyway. CL's love radar remains a mystery. At least it doesn't look like Julie has had much luck these last months. Ha!

Carol- It was hard to watch Rod totally disturb Luci's peace of mind like that. I even wondered if his visit had anything to do with her blood pressure shooting up and sending her into this premature labor.

Rosemary P.- I'm sure they wouldn't let Luci do a cross global flight that far along, but she should have stayed in Het Het, or brought Paz and Magda with her to D.F. and constantly have them by her side. I'm kind of mad at Vio for leaving her alone (with the idiot Estelita), AND taking her car and driver.

Yes Vivi & Carol ~
Why wasn't Paz, Magda & Ariche @ the Baby Shower????
The private plane is always so conveniently available for so many other occasions throughout this TN.
WHY WHY WHY didn't the come at least Paz & "Badd Gyal" Magda would have (1) know what to do (2) defend Luci from any Vultures (GALA ROSA JULIE) if needed by any means necessary!

I almost fell out of my chair Laughing at the Botox comment about Estelitas face. LOLOLOLOLOL!!!! Carol you are too much!!!! :-#

AMOR- Well, considering that Aldo also gets on the nerves of a lot of our commentors, Oscar's attitude towards lazy Aldo is not hard to understand. Aldo is the total opposite of Oscar in many ways-- Oscar works hard, doesn't look for the easy way out, is serious about his work, likely was a very god student. But he doesn't see what they have in common-- they are both playful, loving, and loyal. You are looking at Aldo with Connie's eyes. But even she knows her loveable son is a work in progress.

AmandaC- Glad that you are back with us and all caught up. Yes, in addition to Mati and Estelita, Pato had me slapping my head this episode.

And what about Luci's cell phone when she was at Este's? Couldn't they have called someone, like Vio, to come back and take them to the hospital. Ambulance anyone? I admit that Este was so making me crazy that I FFed through those scenes until I saw them limping toward a cab ... Vivi, that Prissy, GWTW line was truly the funniest rotfl moment of many, many days, likewise Don A and Copi as Batman and Robin which conjured up an image of Don A in an even odder get-up than his usual overdressed self.

Yeah why weren't the most important people in Luci's life at the shower? And in my world, Gala's shower would have been called off to begin with for lack of attendance. Restaurant, ladies?

Lord God I was screaming at the TV Call the F'ing doctor. What is it with these useless women in novelas. It isn't like Estrelita hadn't had a kid of her own. Dios Mio.

What the hell happened to smart Pato blabbing in front of Rosa. He knows she hates Luci yet somehow thinks it mightb e ok to tell her about Luci's house and then blurt out the clinic junk. Has everyone suddenly lost their common sense.

Buckle up everybody with only 31 episodes to go a lot of stuff is going to get flung our way. I actually again noticed the immense contrast between Luci's party and Ga;a's soiree. Lots of color love and laughter in one, nothing much in the other. I was surprised to see Fernanda walk out on Gagme. She has always been closer than Val who does have a few grains of common sense.

I also really like the fact that all of Luci's folks were welcoming to Rod and that he and Don C seem to be developing some kind of relationship.

I'm thinking that the Het Het contingent didn't come because Magda and Paz were busy filling out the work orders and setting things up. I'm pretty sure if they thought for one minuet Luci would be going into early labor they would have been there in a shot.

I must admit I am seriously concerned that Luci's support system wasn't close by and that high blood pressure is too close to what happened to Aurora. God knows i hate seeing history repeat itself but fear that it is. The only reason i think that Lastra was able to see what happened is that he may become involved in what ever happens next. Like Rosa he hates Luci.

ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING ME???? Is what we were probably all thinking when Mati suggested calling Rosalena. Call Melissa. Call Connie. Ofelia. Jana. Lorenza. Fabian. Rod even in China. Any of these people would be a better choice than the baby-kidnapper! Jeez.

And poor Rod. Gala is making Juli look like an uber-mom. She was trying to calm Gala down about the baby that dared to be GIRL and telling her there was nothing they could do. Gala and Rosalena have ideas that don't seem to have occurred to Juli. Maybe she can mooch off of Valentina or the other friend, seeing as how they have finally had enough.

This is going to be a rough last month.

Kelly

How unnerving! Don't they have ambulances in the D.F.? Call the Torreslandas? A taxi?

Thank goodness for the recap and Vivi to lighten things up a bit.

Everything that could go wrong did. Well, except that Gala had only one guest at her shower. Ha, ha.

And it looks like there's more to come. In the words of Bette Davis, "Fasten your seatbelts; it's going to be a bumpy night [er last two months of madness]."

Susan

It's a terribly minor point in this particular episode but what about that Private Eye of Rosa's. He's had about six months now and hasn't come up with anything when he should have had the goods on Max and Vicki in the first week.

The five month jump has caused some questions . Has Aldo been out of work for five months? Vio? Max shunned by Vicki for five months and he hasn't done anything about it but send some forlorn texts. Has Lastra been in that park for five months? Oh my ... And has Rod been sleeping on the Toronto couch for all of five months? These jumps really call out for beanie tightening.

Carol- Aldo got his job back before the 5-month jump. Both Lastra and Ivan disappeared for five months, and are only now just getting back to D.F.

As for Rod, hopefully their place in Canada had TWO bedrooms. :)

The text message scene with Max was also before the 5 month jump. But it does seem that after that, Vicky still managed to avoid Max and Aldo.

I remember watching another TN ~ SORTILEGIO & it seems that every one in Merida and Saqui had access to an ambulance even the poor people of the neighbourhood eg. Meche's brother Gabriel, when he was dying at home from the car accident, Maria Jose when he got stabbed working in the shop in Saqui. Pedro hen he or beat up.
It was ambulances abound. People rode around in them like taxis.
It seemed to me in comparison that DF was was more modern , would be more up to date and accessible to facilities since it was a major city.

So YES ~ where were the ambulances and couldn't someone think to call one?
Bit disappointed Luciana was left limping down the streets of the neighbourhood.

Susan- Yes, everything that could go wrong, did. The only reason why I can see that Mati and Estelita did not call an ambulance is that Estelita said the clinic was close by. In that case taking a short taxi ride would be faster than calling an ambulance that would come from God knows where and have to get through Mexico City's crazy traffic.

Kelly- Yeah, it was crazy that Julie was actually making mroe sense than most of the people in this episode. The woman knows how to move on to Plan B, unlike Gala and Rosa. It's Plan A, or nothing at all, dammit!

Decie Girl- I thought the same for why Paz and Magda were absent. Luci even said a few episodes back that she would need them there up to the last minute helping with the orders.

Yes, our writers continue with the contrasts. These two baby showers could not have been more different.

I think Rosealena's PI delay Is payback for all her evil doings!

The PI IS In Fact Working for Maximino! HaHaHa!!!!
She'll never find out who's her MATEY!!! (Max's Mistress)

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!

Vivi- thank you for this wonderful marvelous recap. Ay yi yi, history repeating itself. Poor Luci, I wonder if this blood pressure issue was the same for her Mama Aurora. I hope she makes it and the bebe too. It's bad that her whole support group is elsewhere, especially her Papa Claudio and Magda and Paz.

Loved your GWTW line about birthin' no babies, lol. Estelita was so worthless, and Mati too. They really should have called an ambulance, so they call a taxi. Que, Que What???? And calling Pato, I think he was so worried about Luci he just blurted it out, more concerned for Luci than Rosa standing there listening. I hope someone shows up to protect poor Luci from the triumverant of brujas.

You are right Vivi, about Claudio, I really think he doesn't have a clue about Melissa, I think she will have to tell him.

Loved Luci's shower and glad everyone left Gagme's. Served her right. I liked the Canadian doctor telling her it was a girl and Dr. Nice too. I just knew Dr. Nice had ethics. So glad he didn't tell her.

I too think the last part of this novela will be a flying by the seat of the pants type thing. It will probably be nerve racking and nail biting, but hopefully things work out in the end. I just hope all three brujas get what is coming to them.

I know that Aurora died of a heart problem, but it could have been brought on by her blood pressure. I just hope both Luci and the bebe survive in very good health. The C-section Luci is looking to have is because of her blood pressure. She wouldn't be able to deliver normally without either having a stroke or a heart attack.

Hoping tomorrow's episode will bring some reprieve.
If it were a two-hour episode it might have gone a bit easier on our nerves! We would have seen what happens next to our poor Luci.

Madelaine

I don't know what the writers have in store for the brujas over the next few weeks but hopefully all of them will get what they have coming. i will say one thing about the prior version it had the best ending of any novela I've ever seen and hope this one will be as good. I'm going to miss this one when it ends. One thing i really appreciate is the almost non existent body count although i wouldn't mind Rosa and the brujas doing a Thelma and Louise and driving off a cliff somewhere still cursing the domestica who will triumph over all of them.

Vivi thanks for the usual details and also the mantra advice!!!I felt that my blood pressure went up too just like all the televiewers as we watch Estelita and Mati become as clueless as though they have not birthed anything. Well maybe Mati but her pattern of thinking regarding her nina RE should be the one to call. Aaargh!!!!By the way can't doctors refuse service to patients like restaurants refusing service to certain customers? Gala should be discharged from the care of her OBGYN.When will Valentina stop seeing Gala.

Vivi:
Thank you for penning an absolutely superb recap. I picked tonight to catch up on the show, after a couple of weeks absence and my head is spinning. They do move things along on Refugio, don't they?

My favorite of your many sanrky asides was,
"CL has learned that Rod is an upright man. Luci agrees. It’s just that they’ve have a crap love story. CL tells her to not think about the past."

This was just genius, crap love story indeed. If Luci wasn't such an appealing character...

I will join you all in preparing for the bumpy ride ahead. With you, Vivi, JudyB and all the other great recappers on this line it be fun as well.

On ambulances, of course they have them in DF. I once had a severe allergic reaction while working there and the paramedics whisked me away from my hotel in a flash to a very good hospital.

Con abrazos,

EJ

Oh, Vivi, I can tell you were "rather" worked up doing this recap, and boy, I can't blame you. The exclamation points were flying my dear. This one was hard to watch, and dang, the writers who have mostly not let us down until now, really brought in the cliche's with this one.

"(Oh, I don’t know? How about call an AMBULANCE!!!! "

Truly, I had to just turned Este's screechiness off. How could someone go thru childbirth and NOT know what to do????? I won't even go on with how lame and stupid this was.

The contrasts between the showers shows how far the divisions are now growing, with most of the young generation Torreslandas moving to the CL/Luce side. Wait until Rosa finds that out, well while she's not waiting for Luce to die. Queue the anvils over this woman!!!

I don't ever wish for the death of a child, so I want GT's little girl to make it into this world...but GT needs to make it out of it just as dramatically and most likely Rod and Luce will raise her. So glad her "friends" took at powder. The three brujas sitting in their delusion on the couch was so fitting.

Ok, wine is chilling and kleenex is ready. Bring on the next round of heartache.

Thus far Julie and Gala have done nothing they can go to prison for unless a very clever lawyer could convince a court that the whole magazine thing was designed to destroy Luci's chances for making a living, etc. The question would then be why the charges weren't filed immediately.

However, the avances for tonight are dire with regard to Roselena who should be in prison for kidnapping and desecration of two graves.

Last night's episode must have been written by a writer for AdP.

UA, i could not agree more, we ahve the same monkey writers as in Abismo which is going downhill fast.

Ok at Estelita... that whole sequence did not make any sense. Estelita HAS a daughter, Mati does NOT!!
Estelita just tells Luci to rest and it will go away?? really? she is within 2 wks of being due for crying out loud!! that means LABOR WARNING!!!

DId Estelita tell Mati 'call TorresLanda??' maybe she meant Rodrigo or Patricio, i thought when the phone rang with Patricio and RosaE, he asked RosaE to help him with the phone, that means the phone that rang was Pato's not the home phone at TL. SO that makes more sense.

But still, this whole thing of making the story look like a deja vu from 20 yrs ago is LUDICROUS!!

If Claudio and Rod know Luci is in her last weeks of pregnancy, WHY OH WHY are they halfway accross the world??? MAKES NO SENSE!!

Now we only will have RE near Luci, OF COURSE!!!

Max and Vicky... i could not care less about this storyline. period. it is sickening.

me and my manners... sorry Vivi, forgot to thank you for an awesome funny recap to make all this unbearable script a little more manageable.. between this and abismo i am glad i have the baseball playoffs to ease my mind... LOL!! next to the crap in these TNs the anxiety of the playoff games is childs play.

LOL! Marta, I can tell this episode got you worked up too. ;-)

This hasn't quite descended into Abismo tonterias, but the writers did need some tonterias to happen in order to get us to this vulnerable place for Luci. We know this thing has to get really horrible for our heroine and hero, before all the villains are conquered and they can have their happily ever after.

I have to say that the writers did their job. We are extremely worried about our heroine at this point. In Abismo, I couldn't care less what happens to Elisa at this point, or the galan, or their supposed best friends. (The writers there could also take a lesson from the Refugio writers on how to portray real friendships and bonds.)

Yes, in the end Mati did the right thing by calling Pato on his cell phone. Is she had done so from the beginning, she would have caught him in the office or in the car. It was purely bad luck that she finally called him right as he got home and was with Rosa. I actually do give her credit for thinking to call him. He will get all the right players to the hospital and alert Rod and CL in China. Unfortunately, Rosa also now knows the situation and will tell Gala and Julie.

I fault both Estelita and Mati for: 1) not calling an abulance right away; 2) not remembering Luci's cell phone (I thought it was funny that Mati said Luci forgot her purse, like in her condition she could remember such a thing); 3) not immediately using Mati's cell phone/Luci's cell phone/Estelita's personal phone book to call all of Luci's friends and family; and 4) suggesting the tonteria of calling casa TL (where Rosa is) or suggesting that the first person they call be Rosa. Mati earns a special bitch slap from me for that suggestion.

I do like the fact that Rod showed up at Luci's shower and gave her those flowers. It was very romantic even though it made her cry. I also like that Claudio and Rod are getting along so well. All the kids and Conny and even Oscar are all liking Claudio.

Decie Girl- I hope the ending for this one is as great as the last one. I too will miss this one when it ends. I loved Destilando Amor, it was my very favorite TN, but this one is topping it. When the DVD comes out on this one I am getting it. I know they will cut it to ribbons, but getting it anyway. I got the one for Destilando Amor and they kept all the very good parts in.

Whew, Vivi--this episode sure generated a lot of frustrated discussion over, well, everything.

The humor, despite the storyline, in the comments was great and I believe AMOR is a first time commenter--PLEASE, if so, keep posting, you are a welcome addition.

I didn't have a chance to watch last night's episode, but thanks to Vivi and everyone else, I could picture every little detail.

What? A baby shower with only one guest? Where were the photographers and reporters that Gala wanted. And so Rod chose which baby shower to go to. Yes, it was probably inappropriate for him to show up at Luci's, but I'm a sucker for flowers and romance, and he put himself where his heart was.

There are already so many great comments so I will just say thank you Vivi.
the gringo

Thanks Anita for the Warm Welcome!
Spanish is my second language. But the Captioning while I watch helps puts the bits and pieces that I may have missed into perspective & of Course CARAY CARAY!

Thanks again ~ Can't wait for today's episode 10/9/12

Please remind me ~ What is the name of the Funeral Home owner that hosted Luci & Rod's wedding reception. The one who fell ill? Did we hear anything about him? From the looks of how our Fantasma (now New Theo) and Procopio is fighting to manage that place it doesn't seem he's coming back?

Thoughts anyone?

Yes AMOR, I love your enthusiasm. Please do comment more often.

Gringo- Always good to hear your voice here. Any comments are welcome.

Anita- Glad I could help you out on an evening when you missed the show. Gala's shower was just lame, lame, lame. I bet the photographer never came or Gala called to cancel.

Mads- I'm really enjoying this one too. For sure, one of my faves.

AMOR- Don Serapio is the name of the funeral home director. Yes, the actor fell ill, and the character is off recuperating from his illnes. Not sure if we'll see him again.

! Gala looks like she wants to perform a sex change operation in utero.

Finally got the computer working again (it goes down every Tuesday...seriously!) and just had to say how much I loved that line! Now back to the rest of the recap (if the computer holds up).

Great job of managing to make some humor out of essentially a very disturbing episode. "CL ueless". Cute! and my fave:

"festive tap water" (May both Roselena and Gala get some rip-roaring bacterial infection from it!...well, maybe just Rosi, don't want Gala's innocent bebe to suffer).

Vivi, you had a rough one and I'm dreading tonight. Not just because of my computer problems but because we seem to be entering a very dark period in this story. Okay, darkest before the dawn but I'd like to just skip forward to the dawn and Happy Ending.

Still, you made a tough episode very enjoyable with your artful re-telling. Gracias amiga mia.

And welcom Amor. We're always excited to hear from new people.

Way back during the CL trial. had we concluded the Frigida's sicko obsession was with Rod or with Pato? i think she said while writing that even though he had kicked her out of his room she still had the hots for him, so that would be Pato, Pato had just insulted Frigida and kicked her out of his room telling her never to come in there again. ... sigh! Frigida obsessed with Pato... no wonder she worried so much back when he had the accident.

Marta- Nope, it's Rod that she secretly burns for. That's why she hates Luci so much. She used to make Rod little special meals. Pato has never been able to stand the witch and the feeling is mutual.

vivi, you must be right, that is why she did the mudd puddle skid on Luci for the company event with a smile on her face. it was a way to get back at Luci and separate her from Rod all in one shot.

WELL WELL WELL ~ TONIGHT'S (TUESDAY 10/9/12) Was MOST Interesting!
Luciana has a HEALTHY Baby Boy!!!!! With little to no incident!

Now the WITCHES are hard @ Work ~ Working overtime with their EVIL Plans. I hope the choke and die!!! Well as for Julie I hopes she drowns on a gulp of her Champagne!!!

The roller~coaster ride has Begun!!!!!

I am a bit late to the party, but the brain damaged sisters have got to go. Hello all. I was so mad at Mati and Estela I left the room. What was Mati smoking? Call RE to do what exactly for Luci? Thanks Vivi for an awesome recap. Good night all.

Olive
