Refugio Para el Amor #158 Wed 11/21/12 In which Cellphones, Particularly Text Messages, Play a Major Role, and Poor Oscar is NOT a Happy Camper

Un Refugio Para El Amor 158, 11/21/12

Violetta has come all the way to San Francisco de Alta to make peace with her father. He’s on his sick bed, down in the dumps, and at this point he doesn’t expect anything from his daughter. She does care about him, she assures him, and she wants bygones to be bygones. She wants Dad to take care of himself. Don Aquiles is very ashamed for having ever denied he was her father. Procopio makes himself scarce so that the two can have a long heart-to-heart. Violetta sits on Dad’s bed and wants to know how he’s been. Don Aquiles doesn’t care - his heart is well now because Violetta is there with him. He’s started writing his memoirs! Don Aquiles is delighted to hear how Violetta’s business is growing and agrees about the wisdom buying an inexpensive place to live for now. Aquiles talks about how bit by bit he saved and invested. The two clearly see eye-to-eye in terms of business and investment strategies.

Max is surprised to see Rosalena who has come to his office. She’s actually come to speak to Jana and tell her that even though she doesn’t agree with her relationship with “este muchacho” she’ll not stand in the way and will support her. Max is glad to hear it. He thinks it’s a wise strategy. Maybe Jana will lose interest in the boy once she no longer sees him as “forbidden”. Rosalena lets Max know she’s giving in for him. She wants to show everyone she’s doing her part to recover their family harmony. “Is that why you stopped your therapy sessions with Dr. Hauser?” challenges Max. Rosalena is shocked: “How do you know?” Max doesn’t want her to quit her treatment. Rosalena claims she’s fine now, she doesn’t need that therapy any longer. [Uh oh]

Mateo leaves his doctor’s appointment, accompanied by the whole gang: Don Chelo, Mateo and Alexia holding hands and Ariché, Luciana and Rodrigo walking beside them. Mateo is ready to go out for his “paseo” (outing). Don Chelo excuses himself that he better keep up with the newspaper selling, or they won’t give him any more to sell tomorrow! But he agrees to let them take Mateo off for the afternoon and spoil him. He tells Rod and Luci that Mateo is the greatest treasure that life has given him. And off they go, the kids squealing with happiness.

Jana steps into her office. She wore her comfy pajamas to work today? She’s surprised to see mamá waiting in her office. Mamá is there to talk about Lorenzo. Before mamá can say another word, Jana announces that she loves Lorenzo and she’s determined to marry him. Rosalena is shocked.

Oscar has been looking pretty sour lately, like he’s been the one sucking on too many lemons. He’s on to Max and he’s not happy with what he is finding out. Back in his office, Max announces to Oscar that he’s going to accept Jana’s decision about being Lorenzo’s girlfriend, and he’ll see later what he can do to help him give Jana the life she deserves. Oscar erupts: “Not everything in live is solved with a check, buddy!”. Max is puzzled: “Why do you say that to me?” Oscar stands up almost snarling - “You and I have to talk.” “I’m listening.” But Oscar doesn’t want to talk at the office. He tell him he’ll see him for breakfast at the club the tomorrow morning. “How mysterious!” Max scoffs as Oscar walks to the door. Oscar turns around and looks at Max: “The mysteries are ending, my friend, they are ending.” and exits. Max looks completely baffled.

Back in the office with Jana. “Nothings going to change your mind, is it?” Rosalena asks her. Jana insists her happiness is being with Lorenzo. Mamá picks up Jana’s hand and tells her she’ll never agree about this relationship, but she’s willing to respect it. Jana looks skeptical. Rosalena asks only that she be allowed to help with the wedding, since it’s something she’s dreamed of since Jana was born. Jana is agrees. Rosalena makes her usual stilted exit, and Jana looks a bit disturbed. As soon as Rosalena closes Jana’s office door, she pulls her cellphone out of her purse and makes a phone call: “Boris, time is against us. Jana is determined to marry Lorenzo unless you and I stop it!” Then we get the usual Rosalena haughty determined stare.

Don Chelo, on his way to sell newspapers, walks past a street vendor whose wares are laid out on the sidewalk. His attention is caught by a record album and he picks it up. It’s an album by Marcelo de la Estrada. The overture of Le Nozze de Figaro starts to play in earnest, and we recognize the younger face of our own Don Chelo staring back from the cover. The street vendor waxes poetic over what a marvelous voice can be heard on the album. The singer was the finest tenor Mexico ever produced, but he just suddenly disappeared one day. What a tragedy! After caressing the vinyl, Don Chelo shakes himself, sets the album back down and walks off without a word. The street vendor looks after him, somewhat intrigued, and picks up the album to take another look at the cover.

Violetta takes her leave from pop. She’ll be praying for his recovery. Don A is all choked up. He calls after Violetta and begs her forgiveness. Violetta is generous in her reconciliation. She can see now that everyone made mistakes and she’s no one to judge. “When one truly loves from the heart, errors don’t have power over us.” she tells him. She kisses her father on the forehead. “Adiós papá.” As she reaches the door Don A calls out “¡Erria! That’s my girl!”

Mateo, Ariché and Alexia run screaming and playing in the park. Rod tries to hold Luciana’s hand as they casually stroll behind, but Luci pulls her arm away. Luci tells Rod that somehow Mateo brings her comfort, relief from the sorrow she feels for not having their son with them. She talks about all the reports she reviews, newspapers, streets, every day and nothing! Rod tells her they can’t lose faith. Luci says Mateo fills her with hope, makes her feel happy again. Rod also feels something very special for Mateo - there is something in him that makes Rod feel like they are very close to finding their son. [OK - we’re getting the llama de sangre loud and clear.] Luci wants to know what’s going to happen to Alexia if Rodrigo gets a divorce. “Alexia is going to live with me, and yes, I’m going to get a divorce, Luciana,” Rodrigo proclaims, “Oscar is already taking charge of everything.” Luci gazes at him.

Ooooh! Gala is at a champagne lunch with Fernanda and Valentina (where’s Julie?), and she’s giving Valentina hell (again). She complains bitterly about Valentina always being against them and judging them. I’m guessing Valentina expressed her disapproval of Gala’s plans to divorce and leave her child. Valentina tells her true friends speak up when they think a friend is making a mistake. “Well, me choca (I don’t like it).” Gala thinks Valentina has been on her case ever since they met “la domestica”. Valentina thinks it’s just that Gala has never wanted to hear the truth. Gala chalks it all up to envy. Valentina argues she’s trying to get Gala to come down from the clouds. Gala needs to value what she has. Pretty soon she’s not going to have a husband or a family or anything. Lots of money, for sure, but for what? Gala doesn’t get this logic at all - the money is for a lot of things - to be happy! Valentina warns Gala that nothing is forever, and what are you going to end up with? Nothing! She excuses herself and marches smartly off. Gala looks subdued for a moment, but then Fernanda toasts her with her glass of champagne, “To our ex-amiga!” Fernanda is ready for them to go partying with Mirko.

A desperate Don Chelo returns home, anxious to erase the past. He starts furiously looking for any bottles him may have hidden. Doña Chuy comes in to see what’s wrong. He came across a reminder of his past. “The best tenor Mexico had every produced!” and he pulls some photos out of a box. Doña Chuy sympathetically tells him he decided to be where he is. Don Chelo feels this despicable thirst, this anxiety to drink. Doña Chuy begs him not to give up. He’s stayed clean for 5 years! And what’s to become of our Mateo if Chelo returns to his drinking? “But the past returns,” Don Chelo tells her, “it returns, to hurt me.” We see the photos are of an opera singer in costume. He finished everything, destroyed his life, his future. Doña Chuy exhorts him to get rid of his past, so it won’t return again. “They say an error abandoned is an error forgiven. God is great and put Mateo in your hands. That little angel who came to save your life, give you a new chance!” “Yes, Mateo” says Don Chelo as he shudders and looks down at the photos.

A bit later, Rod, Luci and kids have brought Mateo home to Don Chelo’s humble boxcar abode. Mateo presents Don Chelo with a gift he chose for him. It’s a wool scarf. Rod and Luci claim it’s simply a gesture of appreciation, and Luci hopes he’ll let them borrow Mateo for another outing from time to time. Don Chelo says “We’ll see”. The kids noisily take their leave. Don Chelo and Doña Chuy make funny faces at each other once they’re gone.

Rod returns to the office and goes to see Oscar. How are his divorce proceedings going? Oscar tells Rod that the judge has made an appointment for their divorce finalization at noon the next day. Oscar strongly urges Rod to be discrete and not discuss money in exchange for the signatures tomorrow in front of the judge. Rod says he’ll explain that to Gala tonight. Oscar calls Max to cancel their breakfast meeting tomorrow. Max gets all huffy about it. Oscar asks Max to be discrete, (because Rod had asked him to tell no one) and reluctantly explains that he has to be with Rod in his divorce judgement tomorrow. Max is very surprised, then shakes his head.

It’s evening. In her bedroom, Rosalena is sitting and wringing her hands, staring off into space. Mati comes in to ask if she’s going to dine in her room. RE upbraids Mati for asking such a stupid question. Mati should know that the dining table is set for everyone, no matter what. RE warns Mati not to think that just because Max and the children brought her back to the house, things are going to be as before. RE nastily warns Mati to stay away from her family, she doesn’t want to see Mati talking or Jana or Pato. Understood? “Yes, Senora,” replies Mati, and proudly leaves the room. RE really has the prison warden vibe going on.

Pato is happily talking to Jana in his room. He congratulates Jana on her and Lorenzo making a lovely couple. But he warns about taking care that ‘Doña Rosalena’ doesn’t end up making life miserable for her. Jana says she would never forgive that, even if she has to move with Lorenzo to San Francisco de Alto! Pato looks impressed at her conviction.

Rodrigo and Gala are meeting up in their dungeon in the sky, Gala looks like she is going through paperwork. Rod advises that they mention nothing about money in front of the judge so they don’t run into problems. Rod explains that they sign the divorce act tomorrow, and then in 72 hours at most they are free. Gala just smirks about that: “You’re going to go back to ‘la domestica’, right?” Rod tells her Luci only cares about finding their son right now. Well, Gala thinks “poor him” because the baby is probably a little angel in heaven. A furious Rod promises Gala they WILL find their son. He tells a smug Gala that her arrogance means she’ll never be happy. Gala doesn’t give a flying .....

Over dinner at Luci’s home, Lorenzo announces to his family that he wants to do things the right way and formally ask for Jana’s hand. Luci says they’ve been novios for one day and they’re ready to get married? Lorenzo points out he's been in love for 5 years! Claudio offers to speak with Maximino and figure out how best to do things. Paz shakes her head in amazement. [Yes, we know what she is whispering to herself.]

At their boxcar home, Don Chelo watches over Mateo’s bedtime prayers. Mateo asks his mother in heaven to look out for all his new friends, for his customers, for the bees to not sting him anymore, for the doctor who cured him and especially for his dad here with him. This little kid actor sure knows how to pull our heart strings. Don Chelo tucks him into bed.

The next morning, Paz asks Luci where she is so lost in thought. Luci tells her that Rodrigo told her he is getting a divorce. Her “mushashon” is going to be a free man once again. Both of them look dazed.

Finally - the moment arrives at the judge's office. Rod is seated in front of the judge’s desk with Oscar standing behind, and Gala is seated next to him with Fernanda standing behind her (texting on her phone). Only Rod is watching the judge who explains that the divorce act states that Alexia will be living with her father Rodrigo. Gala can not be bothered paying attention for a second. She’s too busy acting like a 12-year-old playing video games with noisy sound effects on her cellphone. No wait, she’s just too busy texting someone (presumably the new boyfriend) to pay attention to the judge. She thinks she’s so cute, giggling and proudly showing off the received messages to Fernanda behind her, and totally dissing the judge. The judge has Rod sign. It’s Gala’s turn. “Voy!” “Bleeeep!” She reads the message. The judge prompts her again. “Voy!” She looks down her nose over the docs and cheekily asks Fernanda whether she should sign. Then she asks Rod if they’re going to follow what they already agreed to while she keeps texting on her phone. She’ll trust him. She’s about to sign, but “Bleeeep!” One more text message comes in that she better read first and answer as she grins back at Fernanda. She then signs, and rushes to text something back. While Gala furiously thumb types, the judge declares their marriage officially dissolved. Rod and Gala each turn back to their advocates and make a little cheer. Gala still has cool things to show Fernanda from her phone while Rod looks on with distaste. [Yes, Rod, you married and had a child with THAT! We also know that no judge would ever allow cellphones to be on in their office during a meeting.]

After they leave the judges office, Rod meets Gala and Fernanda in a side room where they “finalize” their deal while Oscar stays behind to finish up with the judge. Rod sends a message from his phone, and Gala looks up something on her iPad - presumably some statement showing a money transfer. She’s delighted with the payoff: “What a pleasure it is to do business with you.” Rod wants to know which one is moving out of the apartment. Gala says - she’s outta there! By the time he gets home from the office, he won’t find a single trace of her. Rod thinks that’s perfect. Gala has one more demand - she tells Rod that she can see Alexia whenever she pleases, no matter what the hour, unannounced or not. Rod has no problem with that. Gala cynically suggests, to avoid trauma for poor little Alexia, that Rod just tell her mami’s off traveling a lot on business, and maybe, one day, she’ll return. Gala and Fernanda leave the room, and Rod just stands there looking spent. [Cheer up, Rod, you finally got THAT off your back!] Oscar comes in to let him know he’ll be get copies of the divorce for him and Gala shortly. Did they get everything worked out? Rod tells Oscar he made the transfer of the balance of the money, but that they’ve worked out everything, he sincerely doubts. “How late did I realize who Gala really is! I never wanted to accept it until now.” [Yep Rod, you took a loooooong time, but at least you finally did.] Oscar waxes philosophical as well - “As they say - one never knows who one married until one divorces.” [Come on, Oscar, that’s way too cynical for a happily married man like you.]

Sitting at home with Magda and Paz, Luci receives a message from Rod on her phone “I’m now divorced”. She tells the ladies. They wonder what she’ll do now. At this point, Luci can only focus on finding her son.

Mateo and Chelo are at their park post. Mateo wonders when Dad is going to sing again. Rod shows up “just passing through” and Mateo brags on his papi’s singing. Rod hopes to get to hear him some day. Since Alexia and Mateo get along so well, Rod hopes that some afternoon Mateo can come over to watch movies with Alexia. Chelo finally agrees. Mateo skips circles in delight. Smiles all around.

Rosalena is in the Padre’s office. Padre Honesto is having a hard time believing that Rosalena is sincere in her sudden support of Jana’s personal decisions. Rosalena claims Max made her see that Jana is of age, so what can she do? Jana was very clear, and Rosalena realizes that if she opposes it, Jana and Lorenzo will just get married far from her family. With the padre as her witness, Rosalene milks the helpless-mother-with-breaking-heart role of sacrifice for all it’s worth.

Via phone, Lorenzo gets the happy news from Jana that everyone (except Rodrigo) knows about their noviazgo, and that even mamá seems to have accepted it. Lorenzo lets her know he’s planning on the whole formal “asking her hand in marriage” bit, and Claudio is going to make arrangements with Maximino. Happy, happy lovebirds.

Claudio is already bearding the lion in his den and there is a lot of snarling going on. That is, Claudio is in Maximino’s office, and informs Max that he is there on Lorenzo’s behalf. Lorenzo wishes to formally ask for Jana’s hand immediately. Poor Max - that sure blew his confident theory that once Lorenzo was no longer “forbidden” Jana would quickly get bored with him. But he rallies, and even offers that if Lorenzo is so determined, they can have the official dinner at his house that very evening, and he’ll deal with Rosalena. Claudio is quite skeptical about the apparent tranquility Max is showing over the whole issue. He was expecting a strong opposition. Max tells Claudio to inform Lorenzo they’ll expect them at their house this evening, and, to please leave now so he can get back to his work! A little more snarling and Claudio marches out with great flourish. As soon as he leaves, Max has Selena summon Oscar, but apparently Oscar hasn’t yet returned.

Oscar, is at his favorite place (not!), talking to Vicki again at her salon. Vicki is wondering why Don Pedro seems so worried. Oscar tells her not to worry. Thanks to Don Pedro, many things are about to be resolved. Oscar is curious about what Don Pedro had to say about their meeting. What struck Vicki is that he said something like “No hay fecha que no se llegue, ni plazo que no se cumpla” (There is no date that doesn’t arrive, nor deadline that can be avoided.) Vicki is interrupted by a summons to the reception desk to take a phone call. “Bleep!” goes Vicki’s cellphone, and with Vicki away Oscar can’t resist sneaking a peek [naughty boy!]. It says “Nos vemos ésta noche donde siempre. Maximino.” (See you tonight, usual place, Maximino.) Oscar is quite puzzled at first, then disgusted as he realizes exactly what it means. Vicki is noisily talking to Aldo at the reception desk as Oscar makes a hasty exit. She scolds Oscar for interrupting her conversation with someone “super important” and when she returns to her desk she sees the message on her phone. Whoops! Not good. [Vicki, I don’t think tucking your cellphone in your apron pocket now is going to do any good.]

Lorenzo is at the the jewelers with both his moms and Fabián. They are fussing over a tray of engagement rings. Even though they like a particular one the best, Lorenzo insists on buying one he can actually afford and he won’t take a loan from his loved ones. Maybe he can buy Jana a better one in a year.

Violetta has returned to the DF. Her partners at Curvas Continuas commiserate over her Dad being unwell. She’s been sorely missed - particularly by Leandro!

In her office, Luciana complains to Pato about all these stacks of reports she reviews every week, and there is never anything to lead her to her son! Pato encourages her. Rod barges in holding a yellow folder. He remarks on asking Don Chelo if Mateo can come over to watch movies with Alexia. When Pato makes a crack, warning that Gala won’t appreciate having Mateo over as Alexia’s playmate, Rod proudly announces that from tonight on, Gala won’t be at their apartment any more. Gala was in a big hurry leave, and Alexia stays. He presents Luci the open folder of divorce papers, laying them on the desk in front of her, even though he knows she doesn’t want to see them right now LOL! [Dude, it’s not exactly a report card full of gold stars!!!] It’s important to him that she know right away. Both Luciana and Pato look very uncomfortable and Luci closes the folder. An expression of great disappointment crosses Pato’s face, but Rod looks very pleased to have shown off his papers.

Max is in his office with Gabriel and Marcos having a cow that Oscar hasn’t returned to work yet, they've got urgent matters to deal with! Oscar walks in and Max sends Gabriel and Marcos off. Before Max can start on the urgent work, Oscar announces they need to talk: “Do you know that I found Pedro Campos?” Max is shocked.

Avances: The avances are a blur, but we do see the Jacinto-Flores contingent arrive en masse at the Torreslando mansion, and Gala is out partying like a millionaire. Looks like Rosalena has more praying to do.

Great work, Audrey.

It will only be after Roselena gets what's coming to her that Lorenzo and Jana can be happy. RE is as lethal as Livia Augusta and as rigid as Bernarda Alba.

I won the TV tonight so got to see ....well, grownups acting like spoiled children and children acting like intelligent adults.

Wonderful recap Audrey. And I especially loved your take on the divorce meeting with the judge. I thought Gala was regressing back to junior high with her outifts lately, but man, her behavior at the office was unreal--I was ready for the judge to yell "ok, I will see you in detention".

But then, really, Dumbass was just as juvenile in just once again shoving his divorce in Luce's face. He just cannot take her cues that he needs to just take it easy. What is he expecting? She's going to jump up and yell "hey let's run and get married right now and hit the sheets?" I'm so tired of his school-boy lookie-what-I-did attitude. Boy, she will have her hands full with this guy until he grow up too ( if he ever does).

Where are they going with Don C? I know they have to have something happen to move him on so Matteo can be back with his parents, but I would hate to see him lapse back to drinking or worse.

Do not mess with Oscar.

I hate this formal asking for hand in marriage busines. So medieval. And I'm guessing that somehow this will all turn very ugly when the Wicked Witch shows up. ( seeing her on the stairs- either she lost her bruja hat with that black get-up or she's acting like she's in mourning.)

Good God we are going to be subjected to yet another ghastly (it can't be anything else) dinner at the Torreslanda prison and on Thanksgiving no less. Must make a note to have a bottle of Pepto Bismal handy.

Now if Rod had a lick of common sense he would move out of the grotesque apartment and find something more child friendly.

Wonder who is going to get custody of Frigida.

I guess the only person in the world who buys her act is Rosa herself oh and of course the dense Bore-us.. If I were Jana I'd make my real wedding plans with Luci and Melissa and Conny and let Rosa plan another ceremony which I would ignore but at least it would keep her out of my hair.

Poor Rod he STILL doesn't get it that Luci could not care less about his divorce.

Wonder how fast gagme, Fernanda and Julie plus sthe bar stud will burn through that money.

Thanks all!

Daisynjay - it's not even Medieval (the asking for the hand). It's dates back to Roman times. I'll give some background with tomorrow's recap. I'm glad you brought it up, because I already researched it and wrote something about it LOL!

I could not get over the divorce scene in the judge's office. That was so hilarious! And I loved the scene where Don Chelo saw his own album. They did such a great job with the cover!

Audrey thanks so much for this delightful recap.

Though Gala has been acting like a child, behavior at the divorce proceedings was still shocking for its immaturity.

UA - ITA that no one especially Lor & Jana will be safe until RE is locked up.

daisynjay - loved your assessment of poor clueless Rod, dumba**. LOL! Sadly your prediction of his growing up with his son seem very apt.

Angry Oscar is quite an interesting turn. I know it is b/c he's hurt regarding Max's deception and using him for injustice. Now he's quite the avenging angel.

Fantastic Audrey! Plus you get the engagement party tomorrow. Looking forward to the history lesson on the practice of the formal dinner to ask for the woman's hand. At least this time Hannah had already said yes to the guy before the dinner!

They should all know that Rosa is planning smething and be watching her. Of course, it seems like she's having Boris do her dirty work.

I was really touched by the scene between Vio and Aquiles. They are at peace with each other and that's a vey good thing. Loved him giving her business advice and speaking about how he started out from poverty, supporting a sick mother. It makes me wonder what would have happened had Magda told him decades ago that Vio was his, or maybe he just wasn't mature enough until now to open his heart up this way.

Speaking of maturity, Gala keeps regressing. I thought junior high as well watching her antics during the divorce proceedings. And Rod still doesn't get what Luci is telling him either-- trying to take her hand as they walked, and then that eager puppy look as he placed the divorce papers in front of her. Really, dude?!

Audrey...thank you so much. I got to see this episode on recording after we got the little ones to bed, but I will not be able to savor your fine recap until they're once more in bed. It has been VERY LIVELY around here with the grandchildren since 6 am. But I look forward to your research on the formal asking of the hand in marriage! Now back to the meleee.

Love your "really dude?" Vivi. To be honest, I kept honing in on Pato during that scene. With his head down, or looking at Luce, I could just hear his brain going " Oh my lord. Bro' I love you but seriously? This is embarrassing. And I'm giving up the girl for you? Universe sucks."

Daisy
I often find myself watching non speaking players during some key scenes. The measure of how good this novela is, is that they are engaged in the conversation, reacting usually very subtly not staring off into space. During Jana and Lor's convo the other night I was watching Paz's face. You are right Pato looked like he was embarrassed for his Irish Setter bro and still feeling pain himself because Luci gets farther away from him.

Audrey- what a gem of a recap. Loved your title too. What a mess Rosa la loca has become and ITA she looks like she is in mourning coming down those stairs. And another dinner, bleck. It almost looks like a stand off at the OK corral tonight. Can't wait though. I really hope they put la loca in her place.

DaisynJay- so agree with you Do not mess with Oscar. He really is a stand up guy. It's funny but Melissa is alot like him.

Rod is a big puppy baby, I have to say. Luci is way more focused than he is. It's like he has a blockage in his head. He is so not hearing what she is sayin', it is sort of like talk to the hand, lol.

I am like Decie Girl I like to watch the other characters faces when not talking. I love the expressions and I too agree for this TN they have been fab all the way thru.

Ah, Don A and Vio, so heartbreaking, sigh. I am glad though that they finally connected and do care about each other. I remember from somewhere in the middle when we found out that Vio was Don A's daughter, the reason Magda left town is cause she caught him with a chippy, she got so mad, she left. I too wish she had come back and told him. I don't know what he would have done either, but maybe things would have been different.

Really liked how Lor is living within his means. It was sweet with the picking out of the ring. Now is this ring, the engagment one or a promise ring? ITA about the asking for the hand in marriage, very old fashioned.

Oh, and Don Chelo. He was really famous at one time. I wonder what happened to him to end up the way he did, as a drunk and with no hope. Dona Chuy was right though. Mateo saved Don C's life. I hope we get more of Don C's back story before this TN is over.

When Luci calls Rod her "mushashon" that's really what he is, her big little boy. And these scenes made that loud and clear (kudos to Soto). Yes, Mads, it's "talk to the hand": Rod is focused on what HE feels and needs urgently and assigns less importance to what other people feel. Fortunately this doesn't keep him from being very responsive to his own children.

I'm sure that is the engagement ring.

A BIG thank you Audrey, your recap was GREAT.

Anita and Vivi---I know that I'm at a disadvantage out here on the west coast. By the time I eat breakfast and get my morning chores done and am able to get to the computer, it's late in the afternoon or early evening for you guys back east, so my posts are late and are most always at the end or near the end and not always read. I did post a comment for you Anita and Vivi yesterday that you might like to read. It was episode #157.

Question---I have heard the word voy many times but to me it always sounds like boy---is the Mexican v pronounced like our b?

Decie Girl---Another ghastly dinner at the Torreslanda prison on Thanksgiving no less--LOL---Did the writers plan it that way?
Just when I stopped laughing I had to start all over again with "who is going to take custody of Frigida." What a hoot!

Decie Girl again---I don't think that Gala will have that money for long, or to put it another way--How will she be able to spend it in jail.

And yes---Gala should have been fined by the judge for her juvenile actions.

If rod had a tail, it would be wagging still has me chuckling. Rod is like a little puppy dog waiting for his dinner. So funny.

one last thing---the Mateo prayer scene last night was touching.

Hope you guys aren't too busy to read the comments today.----Happy Thanksgiving to all.
the gringo

I have a minute to breathe...the little ones have left for Uncle Chris' house and we are not going for another hour.

So, yes Gringo, the "v" and the "b" sound the same in Spanish...in any Spanish-speaking country, not just Mexico. And native speakers will sometimes get the spelling wrong, because they can't hear the difference either.

For most Spanish speakers, v and b are indistinguishable. They are actually both pronounced somewhere in between our b and v. The lips touch - but just barely. Try to pronounce a v, but just barely touch your lips, and you'll make the sound that most Spanish speakers make. But I have heard some pronounce the harder b like we do, and others do the softer v - but they pronounce both consonants the same way.

y. With the padre as her witness, Rosalene milks the helpless-mother-with-breaking-heart role of sacrifice for all it’s worth.

Claudio is already bearding the lion in his den and there is a lot of snarling going on.

Two terrific descriptions of action, Audrey. Just part of a wonderfully written recap. Loved the vocabulary. I've never known how to express "me choca" and you really helped.

Appreciate all the extra effort you put into your recaps..and especially at Thanksgiving! Muchas gracias.

Gringo- I always go back the next day to check on late messages. You wrote a great comment last episode. Happy Thanksgiving all! May it be way more joyful than a TL dinner. Hope I can convince my family to watch the TL dysfucntion on my dad's giant screen tv. :)

Off to the airport to pick up my cousin.

Gringo
