PEAM #1, 3/11/13 – A Tale of Biceps, Yachts, Ben Franklins & a Blue-Eyed Angel

A just beginning has our hero passing through the restaurant while being hailed by the customers and boss as ChuCho or Jesus, clearly the favored of all.  It is a lovely day in Chicago for biceps on bikes to deliver pizzas to the populus.  We see Jesus’ incomparably t-shirted biceps handed a pizza then he gets on a bicycle that sounds like a motorbike but is just a hunk-powered delivery bicycle.  Drivers and casual bystanders shout out his name while he assures them he is never late.  He seems to know what each customer really wants in terms of chili heat.  I just bet he knows how much heat everyone needs… oh, but where was I, it‘s way, way too early for hallucinating when it’s only the first 5 minutes.

He arrives home to his own refrigerator and chooses bananas and milk; what a good boy.  He is studying for final exams so he can regain his finance career when his brother(?) or is this Carlos his friend, stops by to question his quest, rubs in the futility of getting beyond a fraud charge, but gingerly takes the rent money Jesus offers and the studying goes on.

Next day while making deliveries on his bike, he is hit by an impossibly long white limo.  When the white suited, golden-chained exec gets out to assess his liability, they have a great Spanglish conversation about life in Chicago.  We learn that Jesus is actually has legal papers and has been in Chicago about 6 years.  Ury Petrovsky offers him a $100 dollar bill for his inconvenience and assures him that his yacht is the Fortuna where he can be found and he will help him out any time for anything.  Off goes Ury with the lovely-thighed women hanging off his white serge suit sleeves.

Next he runs into his friend Carlos who is looking at pictures of a girl on “Face”  what Mexicans call Facebook.  The woman is Veronica whom Jesus recognizes immediately as his old flame from Monterrey.  The darling child is probably his daughter posits Carlos.  Valentina has her own little video on internet.  Still doubtful, Jesus calls Veronica, who feigns disinterest on the lime green phone coming out of her… yoga pillow.  She reluctantly admits that Valentina is indeed his daughter.  She says she wasn’t going to bother him with a “detail” He wants to claim the daughter that has his smile and his genes but Veronica says Valentina has a new daddy who is marvelous and gives and means everything to both of them.  She hangs up on the hunk, which we can’t believe but he then he is brought down to a step below earthe by his brother who thinks he is foolish to plan a great life for this new daughter when he lost everything in the fraud.. More on this later I am sure.

So that Fortuna yacht looks mighty good when Jesus gets on the boat to the amazement of the lovely-thighed ones and he asks for a way to get to Monterey to search for his daughter.  As it turns out Ury has a orfanato in Montererey Nuevo Leon who happens to need a suitcase full of clothes and he can take care of  trip expenses if Jesus is predisposed to carry the lovely little load of clothes to aid the orphan.  Seems like such a good deal all around, what could go wrong here?

Slide to Avon in Monterrey I guess with the Avon office boss, Senor Cardena  and he is tracking down  an acrid odor and it turns out to be out lovely Kiki as a nerdy braided lass with the offending smelly boiled eggs, who tries to defend her sulfuric desk.  As Cardena reminds her, there is NO eating in the office!

Back to Jesus who is accepting a suitcase from the oily Ury, the innocent Jesus does want to inspect the contents, but he sees only clothes that are going to the dear orphan.  When he gets back to the restaurant he is surprised by a party where all his friends are yelling good byes.  HE says but I am only making a quick trip.  They retort that one never knows if he will come back or not.

Back to Monterrey we see out younger galan Rogelio showing us knuckle nervousness as he receives a call from Ury and learns that the perfect mule has been found to bring him the money that he so badly needs.  They both laugh about having two women to please that both like expensive shoes.

Jesus asks the cab to take him to the airport.  He already has a picture of the Valentina in his wallet no doubt downloaded from the internet like we used to do of FC on our CarayCaray site.  Well, okay some of us still do it.

The Avon ladies are all in line to see who is arriving and Fernando seems unsure but this will probably be his signature look of surprise at every turn of reality.  The beauty that turns around is Blanca Soto our ALMA,  all swoon while Rogelio embraces the empress, what a couple says Baldy. Rogelio makes the lovely office theme that Alma is the ALMA (soul) of the office.  What a sweet talking SOB, no?

Meanwhile our unsuspecting mule comes into the airport to get his bags down at the  claim belts, the camera shows the flashy big-teethed  German Shepherds over in the corner and Jesus must pick out  his two among several thousand blue bags (who hasn’t been there).  The doggie does ballistic so his luggage is checked and the inner lining reveals a sea of Ben Franklins.  I didn’t realize that German Shepherds could be trained to smell money, did you?  He swears the money is his and is for his lovely daughter.  He is reminded that the $10K limit of exporting cash out of the USA dollars has been greatly exceeded.

Meanwhile, more smoochery at Avon in the reception area.  Rogelio and Alma put on a passion play for all to enjoy.  They flirt and kiss energetically after dispersing the crowd She is glad to return, he flirts that no one else could do the job she can,  I can just imagine.  She simpers that she will always have time in her busy executive schedule for him…  I am just adjusting my beanie here in chapter one that the younger galan is getting all the action and not our FC when did he loose his crown and the banner across his broad muscled chest that simply says TBLMOE???  Oh, never mind the commercial is almost over and I haven’t begun the spell check process…

Meanwhile, a lovely agent questions Jesus that he seems to be unaware of the seriousness  of smuggling in almost $1 million.  He says he is guilty of being and idiot but not a criminal and he thought he was bringing clothes for orphans.  He just found out that he has a six year old daughter that he did not know existed and he was merely trying to get to Monterrey to meet her but he had no money for the trip so took on this assignment to cloth and orphan…  The agent  takes a look at his picture of Valentina and says you haven’t met her yet but the sentence that you are going to get means you have little chance of ever meeting her.  She offers him a deal to co-operate if he ever wants out of this mess.  She starts by asking WHO ASKED YOU TO CARRY THIS SUITCASE…

We come back from break with some musical rendition of the wistful, wonderful welcome Jesus is about to receive at Avon, at his daughter’s house and all the while he is in a flaming pink shirt, part of the Avon uniform, rendered for a man.  Oh my, fun riffs take off on so many contemporary musicians.

Back in Chicago, Ury is alerted that officers are surrounding La Fortuna.  He takes off running with just his trusty computer case, or is it a… oh no it’s a metal brief case full of even more Ben Franklins, eeeekkkk!  Fleeing uselessly on a bridge, our be-chained one is taken down by officers only to have some base-metal jewelry added to his wrists.

Back at Avon,  Alma meets her BFF Patricia.  Alma reveals that Fernando the brother of Rogelio and she share a secretary and he keeps hiring women that he can snuggle or worse with and therefore he has given her the worst of secres (secretaries).  The evidence with the current tall, lanky lovely is proof positive.  She can’t meet the challenge of writing a simple memo.

Ury Petrovski’s arrest is broadcast from Chicago to Monterrey on TV while the infidel, Patricia enters in scanty undies to distract Rogelio.  Alas, the same AMIGI we just saw enchanting  the saintly Alma  is climbing all over Rogelio’s bed and body while he tries to explain to Alma that he has a working dinner with some “suppliers” that have shown up.  Patricia is working overtime.

As Jesus signs on with the Monterrey or Federal authorities we see Ury in prison in Chicago learning from his lawyer that Jesus was caught and has burned Ury to get out of jail free.  As Ury swears revenge the stage is set for madcap moments.  Jesus is threatened by the lovely Monterrey agent that he cannot break the law and must observe all the rules if he is to be let off so he can search for his daughter.  Everyone will be watching his every move, me too.

Still working late, Alma is interrupted by Fernando who wants to distract her about the secretary situation. They call each other Cunis (cunada/o) already which seems to be at a custom of  serious couples and their families in Mexico.  They say lots about nothing except his concern for his idiotic but sexy secretary that Alma may be insisting the staff working too hard and she says if you prefer they do nothing?  Well, nothing wasn’t what he had in mind it seems.

Jesus Garcia shows up at the luxurious door of Veronica and is barely allowed into the house after he puts a foot in while he asks why she has ignored  his phone messages. She is vapid but not really evil so,  she says he can have only five minutes to see Valentina  who must go to bed at 8:00 PM sharp.  The step dad at least says remember when we told you about papas biologicos well this one is yours. Valentina  turns rises up and says are you my real dad??  They hug tenderly and the blue eyed Valentina recognizes the love and honor of her tear stained PAPA.  A love is born.

Tomorrow we will be treated to Alma discovering Fernando under HER desk with HER secretary. This causes her to swear to him that she will find a secretary that he CANNOT seduce… Take it away Julie! The games are afoot.

Hola amigos, I am trying to test whether my posting is attached in all the right places. Please let me know if you have trouble reading or seeking the feed chapters. Gracias a todos, Cheryl

Cheryl: Wonderful, perfect, first recap. I knew you hadn't lost your touch : )

This TN is interesting and kinda moving even in the first epi. Poor Chucho. He can't win for losing it seems, and doesn't Valentina look like Punky Brewster in that picture Chucho is carrying in his wallet. She is cute though. I liked the video.

Chucho's ex is kinda mean and that green phone attached to her cell was mind boggling bright, I must say, lol. At least Chucho got to see his daughter.

Alma is very sugary it seems and Rogelio is the usual bad hat. Patricia is funny, but such a back stabber. I am liking Xochitl (Kiki) but she looks so plain jane, she needs a makeover for sure.

Fernando looks like a man that just wants dessert all the time, no time for work, lol.

Can't wait for tomorrow when Alma and Chucho meet.

Great 1st episode & recap, tks Cheryl.

Corazón doing pitterpats, ahhhh, guapísimo FC

Wonder how we can convince Gato Viejo to do his side by side Eng Sp translation like he does for Amor Bravio?

Gracias, Madelaine. I appreciate your quick response. Thanks for the posting review lesson. Things have change more than I thought, but in all I think it is so much easier.

I am watching the Univision news and they were just flashing Ben Franklins which may have been counterfeit, didn't catch the story. Art imitates life and vice versa.

Thanks for checking in Variopinta, your passion shows in your little ID picture: our man FC. I don't know gato viejo and have not been following Caray2 postings for some months. What is it he does with Amor Bravio? Is he doing word for word translating instead of recapping?

Cheryl - great first recap for this novela. just like riding a bike, a little rusty at first but you got back in the swing of things very quickly.

a couple of corrections: the big green telephone receiver was connected to a little bitty iPhone. Uri had two females with him in his limo and on his boat. Also, I think he told Valentina, "Remember when we explained to you I wasn't your biological daddy, I was your daddy by heart?" That's when Valentina turned and asked Jesus "Are you my real daddy?"

I think Chucho may be the nickname for Jesus.

Great ep.
I've always enjoyed FC's acting, he's my #1 TN actor. Good to see him in a different acting roll.
Good luck to them all and I hope it turns out to be really good TN for us.

As far as I know there are two nicknames for Jesus: Chuy and Chucho.
Thanks.

Jody and Flaco, Yes Chucho and Chuy are nicknames for people named Jesus at least in Mexico, I don't know about other Latin countries who have their own slang and nicknames.

I think Ury always has two women with him, that is why he is sympathetic to Rogelio bemoaning keeping two women happy and in new shoes.

I am so glad that Valentina's step-dad seems so kind and understanding. Jesus has enough hard times and problems so far. I hope Valentina is allowed free access to her real father now that they have met. I think it is wonderful for both daughter and father to be able to explore a rich relationship. That will give some deep heart to this story which may be pretty silly as we go along.

Thanks for all the added details, this makes Caray Caray so successful. My intent is not to translate and I will try to keep my recaps brief. The impetus is to get people to explore the exact translations if they are so inclined and to build better vocabulary.

Thanks, Cheryl. I'll read all of your recap tomorrow.

But I did tune in, after a long time away from Univisión, and for Colunga and no one else.

How odd to see him in sort of a comedy.

I guess he's supposed to end up a secretary? Jody is this the same plot as El Secretario that you've been recapping?

This is the second novela where FC has been the "other man", and the guy the protagonista is supposed to marry is a womanizer who has someone else on the side. It was the same in Mañana es para Siempre.

I still think FC is at his very best in novelas de epoca, but I guess they either aren't making those any more at Televisa or he prefers modern roles now.

Thanks, Cheryl, for your excellent recap. I only caught the last few minutes, so needed your rundown to get me up to speed.
La Paloma

What a treat to wake up to, Cheryl. You never let us down. This looks like it's going to be fun.

Avon sure seems to have taken over the TN airwaves - at least in the comedies which I tend to watch. I think this is the third one where everyone works at Avon and in PESE the lovely Mimi sold Avon products.

I too am glad that little Valentina's stepdad seems to be quite nice -- and also that he is the acator who played Chef Hawt from QE. Those biceps can compete quite nicely with those of Colunga.

Güera

Cheryl, thanks so much for starting us off with a delightful recap! And the title is *perfect.*

I was amazed that they were able to get through the whole backstory in one episode. And as Mike remarked yesterday, it clipped along very quickly. That's a nice thing about comedies -- they don't tend to dwell on the "caras impactadas" for quite as many days before introducing another event.

One of the funniest parts was unintentional, I think -- Alma having to stick her heels way out behind her to smooch Rogelio. How tall IS she, anyway? And what are they going to do when she hooks up with Jesús -- dig her a hole?

Thanks Cheryl for the first recap.
It's great to see FC back on the screen.
I love the way the telenovelas recycle scenery. I think that Veronica's house was the same house Fernando (Jaime Camil) used in LFMB.

Cheryl: What a treat to be able to read and savor your excellent recaps once again.

I laughed and appreciated your wonderful wit with such lines as "white suited, golden-chained exec", "sulfuric desk" and "when did he loose his crown and the banner across his broad muscled chest that simply says TBLMOE???". Perfetion.

Blue Lass, I totally agree that it was nice that this certainly set the stage quickly.

Love the actor playing Fernando - I was expecting him to start playing with his mustache a la Snidely Whiplash!

Madelaine, I love Kiki although it took me a moment to recognize her! I have a feeling she is going to shine in this...Another of my Pasion favorites.

I know Colunga fans are rejoicing at this return and hope this brings them everything they seek. However, Novelera echoed my feelings perfectly: "I still think FC is at his very best in novelas de epoca". Yes, Pasion fit him perfectly.

Jody, so good to see you are recapping this!

Thanks again Cheryl. This is off to a quick start thanks to you!

Diana

OK... here's my next attempt at a comedy novela. I hope I can stick with this one because it's off to a good start. As is your recap, Cheryl; good work.

What is the fraud in the backstory? Is that why Jesus is delivering pizzas instead of wearing a suit and working in an office?

Jesus + Alma.... OK. At least her name isn't Maria.

The office looks like it will have lots of funny scenes. Do secretaries in Mexico really wear uniforms like airline stewardesses?

Cheryl, thanks. The recap was great. I especially liked your "biceps on bike" description. All I can say is that that was the best fitting blue plaid shirt (on Chucho) that I have ever seen! Tablet Jefa, I had the same deja vu moment with the house. This looks like it is going to be fun!

Jarifa

Thank you, Cheryl. "Smoochery" caught my fancy.

Blue Lass- I think Blanca Soto is 5'10". It was bad camera work to make that kiss a full shot. Blanca did have to do a little trickery.

I loved Kika last night. She'll be the one I'm watching (when Margaleff and Fastlicht aren't around.)

Great to have you back Cheryl!

They did go through the setup/back story very quickly. Although we still don't know the story of THE FRAUD that left Jesus broke and working two menial labor jobs, while trying to go back to school.

No real comedy yet, but I guess we needed to get through the setup. I did find Yuri and his gringo accent to be funny. His English sounded very American so Yuri might actually be a Gringo.

I was really moved by the final scene when Jesus and Valentina finally meet.

novelera- This is a remake of El Secretario.

Urban- In El Secretario, the original Colombian version of this, the uniforms for the secretaries, and the galan having to wear one, is one of the recurring sight gags. So it's not necessarily a Mexican thing. Just taken directly from the original tn.

I still remember the beach scene in Eva Luna where they DID dig a ditch in the sand so that barefoot Blanca Soto wouldn't be taller than barefoot Guy Ecker. LOL! How tall is FC?

Diana, I had that Snidely Moustache feeling, too -- and I think he did twirl the end just a little!

Hey, UA, long time no e! Hope you'll be joining us for this one. In answer to your query, I believe Jesús lost all his money in some kind of fraud. I don't think he was actually *guilty* of fraud. He was finishing up his exams to requalify in finance in the US, since his Mexican degree didn't count.

Thanks, Cheryl. My favorite line was about Ury gettin some base metal jewelry (handcuffs).

Apparently the BLMOTP isn't also the smartest. Clothes for orphans? From THAT guy? And someone needs to tell him that Caquita Banana warned us never to store bananas in the refirgerator. But I do like that the hero is sweet rather than macho. JC did an excellent job in the scene where he meets his daughter. I found it very convincing. I'm not having the same reaction to the protagonista though. My last two TNs starred Lucero and Ana Brenda Conteras (fondly known as Cupcake), both of whom had a warmth that I took to immediately. Alma reminds me more of Alicia in La Fea.

I like the way Alma's speaking plainly to Fernando, though -- in El Tal she was just insipid.

Bill- Acting isn't Blanca Soto's strong suit...But she's tall and pretty! In any case, I think it's the cast around her who will be doing the heavy lifting with the comedy (and FC with the emotion/drama), and they have some very good comedic actors in the supporting cast.

Cheryl! Weren't you worried that you might be rusty after a long break from recapping? You're anything but. This was fantastic. "What could go wrong here?" LOL!

The few minutes I saw of this last night didn't look very funny to me, but they did look interesting! The stepfather seems like a decent guy (or maybe I'm just predisposed to liking any character this guy plays).

Yes, there are actually dogs that sniff for cash. US currency does have a particular smell, but I always assumed it had something to do with the smell of wallets and purses. Apparently there's more to it than that.

Regarding FC's biceps, I think someone noticed in STuD that his shirt sleeves seem to be specially tailored (tapering in just the right places) to show them off. :-) I wonder if that kind of shirt would make any arms look better? Hmm...

I had never heard of currency-sniffing dogs before -- how interesting!

Here's a clip from an article in the Sun-Sentinel:

"Last month, a currency dog alerted his handler to $1.1 million in the carry-on luggage of a passenger boarding an international flight at Miami International Airport, according to the South Florida High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area office.

It's illegal to take more than $10,000 in undeclared cash out of the United States. Nearly every day the dogs catch someone trying to leave Miami and Fort Lauderdale with that much money or more, federal officials said."

I think the Spanglish in this one is a hoot. Petrovsky sounded like Esteve from MEPS. But it wasn't hard to understand him at all. I too wonder if Yuri is a native English speaker that speaks bad Spanish, maybe?

Amigas, feast your eyes, 34 fotos of FC, making the TN

This is Gato Viejos site for AB

http://users.frii.com/markzimm/ambrav/latest

I was hoping for a novela de epoca with FC, too but I'll watch him in anything. He was quite good in Ladrón que roba a ladrón (a comedy heist movie) so I'm expecting he'll be good in this.

Thanks for the fotos, Variopinta! I notice Colunga and Soto standing together in one, and she only has to splay her legs slightly not to be taller -- since she's wearing heels, I assume then that they're about the same height.

Mads, I got the feeling the actor playing Uri didn't speak Spanish AT ALL -- he sounded like he had memorized his lines phonetically, which made it even funnier.

FC is 6'1 1/2", Blanca is 5'10", Guy Ecker is 5'11 3/4"
Yáñez is 6'3", Cristian de la Fuente is 6'2"

This is a good site to get all that useful info, not always correct though

Thank you, Cheryl! Not rusty at all! What a great job of introducing us to the story!

We didn't have to wait 30 episodes for Jesus to find out about and meet his daughter?! Already I am liking the pace of this!

I'm also liking the comedy so far. We have some very funny people. Patricia seemed to be cracking up Rogelio de verdad. Yuri the Caricature rich guy was a hoot. The camera angle on the white pants in that one limo scene gave me El Tal flashbacks.

Did have to tighten up my beanie to believe that Chucho wouldn't see anything fishy about a guy paying for him to transport a few old clothes, and that he could keep bananas in the refrigerator without turning them black, and that there were only three people waiting at baggage claim instead of so many you can't get to the belt, and that someone just happened to be standing there with a news camera. His apartment wasn't shabby at all for someone who is supposed to be poor.

I always keep bananas in the frig. They ripen before your eyes. I try to buy them pretty green, put them in frig & depending on how green take them out to ripen. They only turn black if they are very ripe. I don't like mushy overripe bananas. Don't listen to Chiquita. If they get too ripe, put them in the freezer & use in smoothies.

Variopinta- Either Guy Ecker is lying, or Blanca Soto is, because is Eva Luna she wore flats all the time, and she looked as tall as he did.

Vivi,
Could be, I think it's like Wiki, user fed info

Cheryl, you're back!! YAY! Excellent recap of a good set-up first episode. Loving all the great comments also.

Variopinta:

I did look Mark Jindrak up and he is an American, lol. I like the way he speaks Spanish though, low and slow so you can completely understand him, lol.

I think the diction is very good so far. And I appreciated the way Mr. Human Resources Guy went around and pronounced everyone's names for us. :)

The Human Resources guy was on UFCS as a finance guy I think and had the hots for Arnold, our loveable character from that one : )

She aims, she scores!! (I've been watching too much basketball). Wonderful recap Cheryl to get this party started.

I can't remember the last time I sat down willingly to take in a dramedy, coma, whatever we want to call these comedy/drama TN's, but with Erick and FC, I just had to tune in. Will take some getting use to, but so far kinda sweet and can see some characters are being written as true stereotypes--but that can sometimes work if the acting is good ( cheesy on purpose sort of thing).

So FC, our Chuy, is playing the reverse female role of the sweet and slightly gullible heroine who falls for the charms of the boss/rich guy. I agree that it was funny to see Erick getting the action, and FC being the poor schluck who has to wait to get his "desserts". But either one shirtless, I'm good.

Well, let's see how Episode Two turns out!

Was there gratuitous shirtlessness last night? I already got TWO bingo squares in the first epi, but grossly gratuitous shirtlessness would make three. I think I'd remember that, though.

I don't think that shirtlessness was gratuitous. It was relevant to the scene. But don't you worry; there will be some for sure.

Hello All,
Long time "lurker" of this site.
First time posting a comment.
Thank you Cheryl, for the recap.
I'm a big FC fan and couldn't wait for this novela to begin.
One thing I noticed was the man filming Jesus as he is being led away by the police. I'm wondering what will the repercussions be?
Can't wait for tonight's episode!
-Fan of it all

Mark Jindrak/Marco Corleone/Ury Petrovsky lives in Mexico.

Novelera - This is a remake of "El Secretario". So far, the only things that have changed that I have noticed are the cast, the names of the characters and the cities/settings. Since I'm also still watching and doing recaps for El Secretario, I promise not to compare or give any advances here for PEAM. (If I inadvertently call any of these characters by the original character's name, I apologize in advance.)

Roger that Julia and I do expect the shirtlessness to be gratuitous!! Looking forward to more and to mocking it when it happens. Muchas gracias to the TN costumers for tailoring FC's shirts so we can see those biceps.

This is my second TN comedy. Never watched any American soaps except for the original Dark Shadows back in the Paleolithic Age when dinosaurs roamed. The earth!

A heartfelt thank you to Cheryl for weaving the humor so nicely into the translation of this first episode. Gertie

Welcome back Cheryl. We have all missed you but your recap are still as funny as ever.

I am looking forward to see how this TN develops. The fact that the two protagonist will supposedly meeting by episode #2 is very promising along with the fast backstory setup.

Cheryl, thanks for you recap!

Well, that was interesting. I have never watched a comic novella, although even the serious shows seem pretty hilarious at times. The odd dance break in the middle had my teen daughter saying QTH? She was watching just to see how much language she could pick up on.

The office boss sniffing out the egg smell made me think of Stanley Tucci in Devil Wears Prada...the whole office gang was pretty funny.

Great to see FC on screen again, although I to am with Novelera in liking the period shows. This one will certainly be different for me!

Molly

Fan of it All:

Welcome. Glad you came out of lurkdom : ) This is such a fun TN and FC is soooo..... well fabuloous, jus' sayin'

Molly, the dance break was actually the opening credits -- Uni runs them in the middle of the shows now -- so we should be seeing it every night.

I like the song, but those giant elf shoes freak me out.

Thanks Cheryl, how great it is to reunite with you through your always clever recaps...you certainly haven't lost your touch.

I especially enjoyed Pati last night... what a fun-loving free spirit and they threw us right into the deep end with her last night.

Red pants must be the LOOK in Mexico these days. I may have to rush out and try to find a pair.

I didn't detect any call of the blood between Jesús and the little girl...maybe his fresh out of jail scent got in the way.

Carlos

We get to see FC almost immediatiely instead of waiting for—what was it—six weeks in STuD?

I think I recognize three people: the agent played a lawyer in CME. I think Alma’s friend Patricia, who’s sleeping with her boyfriend, is the same one who played Roberta’s “best friend” who eventually turned on her in CME. I also recognize the American money guy from movies and TV.

Very surprised there wasn’t any drama about Jesus meeting his daughter as her father. I thought it would be a “pretend you’re an old friend” type of situation.

Now on to the comments.

Nanette (for those of you not watching/lurking AB and who watched/lurked CME and/or STuD, formerly Robey).

Thanks Cheryl for the great recap. It's great to have you back.

Now I'm glad that this one is overlapping AB for a few weeks. Gives me time to see if I can get into a comedy before the new Jorge Salinas starts. Though I hate that 10:00 time slot it's going to have.

Guess the American guy isn't the one I was thinking of. He does look a lot like an actor I've seen many times before. I'll have to try and remember who.

Nanette, he has been identified farther up in the comments.

Cheryl--You came out of the starting gates on a gallop, or a roll, or hitting the pedal to the metal. Great recap. ...and if it's a comedy, we'll have a great time with riffs, snarks and picturesque language.

What a hoot to have the first 20 minutes or so be a whirlwind tour of Chicago. They should do more of that in tns, after all, we are friendly neighbors and the Spanish-speaking community is growing rapidly here. And besides, we should be touting other US destinations where Mexicans can vacation.

BL--Your answer about the Fraud is what I understood. Jesus was probably scammed out of all his savings and gave his house-bro all he had left for the rent. He's studying to get certified in the States as a financial planner--can't quite figure why it has taken him six years to do it. I guess he had to find jobs and a place to live.

His house-bro must have known about Veronica or he wouldn't have shown him her info on Face. This probably won't be delved into because he made it to Monterrey and that's where he'll be for the rest of the tn.

The only thing that struck me as funny was Uri's accent. Not the boiled egg, not Jesus smelling bad.

I didn't recognize Kika either. She's played such diverse roles since I saw her in Pasion. Her Catalina in Amor Real was poignant, and her interpretation of a blind woman on Fuerza were excellent. I wonder is she's going to figure more prominently. Maybe she'll become Jesus' ally.

As for "He swears the money is his and is for his lovely daughter. He is reminded that the $10K limit of exporting cash out of the USA dollars has been greatly exceeded." I thought I heard Jesus tell the lady inspector that he didn't know anything about the money in the suitcase. He didn't know it had a false bottom. But maybe he did at first, anyway, I'm not going to go back and check, because he's out now, needing some of those Avon products (you know the kind you can use if you are bedridden and can't get to a shower).

I was so sure Valentina was going to reject Jesus because he smelled bad and we'd have to spend several episodes where he has to prove to her that he's not a homeless bum (although right now that is true).

I'll stay with this tn unless it gets really ridiculous (which Mejia can do so easily), FC or not.

Anita:

This isn't a Meija novela. It is an Ortiz novela, the same guy that did UFCS : ) The upcoming Meija is Que Bonita Amor that will repalce Amor Bravio.

He did tell the agent that he didn't know the money was there. Unfortunately she was not too impressed by his "I was transporting this stuff for someone else" defense. That's a big no-no!

I love the opening credits. I always like dancing, even if those shoes kind of creep me out. I also like that the credits end with Jesus looking perplexed instead of with a kiss, as is standard.

The outside of Veronica's house was also the outside of granny's house in Querida Enemiga, wasn't it? I know we've seen it a few places before. It isn't a typical Mexican style of architecture like most of the houses we see in the telenovelas.

Wasn't it also the outside of Pati Baby's parents' house in Eva?

Anita:

"I'll stay with this tn unless it gets really ridiculous (which Mejia can do so easily), FC or not."

Fortunately it's not a Mejía show (he'll produce the next primetime telenovela after AV with William Levy), it's an Osorio. He made Una familia con suerte and Mi pecado. :) He and Fernando used to work together in Nunca te olvidaré (in 1999).

He also loves circuses but he isn't that bad as our beloved Salvador Mejía.

Not much time to post. Thanks, Cheryl for the clever recap. I always love to read your recaps. Carlos~~~See...no metrosexual cardigan over the shoulders. Jesus seems to be a plaid kind of guy. A man of the gente. I missed the first few minutes because I forgot this novela was starting. Then, I fell asleep on the sofa and missed Amores. Maybe I'll stay awake for both shows tonight....maybe.

I have high hopes with this producer in charge. Mi Pecado was one of the best shows I've ever seen, though the opposite of a comedy. The pacing was excellent; never a doldrum. UFCS also kept plenty of action happening. Also, they didn't rely much on completely idiotic miscommunications.

Hola Cheryl...So good to have you and your sly sense of humor back

Top quip: The big office smooch described as putting on "a passion play". How apt with Easter coming up soon! Clever you.

Like all the rest, I'm yearning for the Fernando Colunga of Alborada with the facial hair (and the lined face!). This smooth as silk face-lifted modern guy still makes my heart go pitty-pat though. Not just the biceps but check out the forearms. Verrrrry nice.

Yes, I notice Blanca Soto slumping and splaying out her legs to not tower over her fiancé...as for the stats on the menfolk, guys always add a few inches, same as we gals deduct a few pounds. So she's probably way taller than all those guys. Give her some ballerina flats and be done with it!

Blue Lass, thanks for the clarification. That was a major wtf moment for me.

Molly

Blue Lass: Thanks. I saw that. I looked him up in IMDb and realized he's not the actor I thought he was. Still trying to remember who I was thinking of that reminds me of him.

Ok, ok, enough with the Nerfazos. Not Mejia. Coulda fooled me. I'll give it an extra-strength pass for now.

Blanca wore flats in El Tal just about 24/7. As the important Asst. Dir. of a cosmetic firm, she will have to wear 5" platform stilettos, no? Either that or they will only film from the ankles up. Expect lots of head shots. Oh, and her hair is lighter, too. I like it.

I wish they would take this opportunity to show that a lady can be stylish without wearing sky-high heels all the time. Not that she shouldn't wear tall shoes sometimes--a tall woman should embrace what she's got, not hide it! Why can't she be taller than her smooching partner? But I find it ridiculous how certain types of characters seem to wear stilettos All. The. Time, even when they're hanging out at home or just running out to the pharmacy or whatever. Does anyone live like that? How do their feet survive? There are lots of great flat shoes available!

I thought Blanca looked great in flat shoes -- but I do like her better as a blonde.

Mil gracias! It is so great to read all the comments from old friends and new. Thanks for coming out of the background, Fan Of It All. I love it when people find their words and add to all our fun. You are very, very welcome here.

It is so fun to read all the advice on bananas, stilettos and relatve heights of kissing partners. There is always so much to learn from all of you! Now to follow up on the photo galleries of FC.

The language seems really clear from all the actors here. Besides the beauty of the outer Jesus, his clear enunciation has always added to his charms for me. I just love all the cast choices. I think we are really going to have a hilarious time even if the script isn't. I think there was so many back story details to lay down on night one . I have hopes for the comedy taking over from here.
Thanks to all of you for the warm greetings. It is so good to come home. Besos y abrazos.

Hey Cheryl! So nice to see you again. A lovely recap to what is promising to be a fun ride for us.

I think the agent was the only teller in Fresno on El Tal.

Emilia - is that Nieta with her very own telenovela beanie? Cute!

Carlos - promise you'll post a picture of you and your new red pants.

I actually find it attractive when a taller gal dates a shorter guy IF she holds her head high with her shoulders back. It gives her a Beauty Queen look. Here's Blanca, an actual beauty queen slouching, giving her an apologetic look.

I wasn't too thrilled with the choice of Blanca, what little I caught of her in Eva Luna, she is not a very good actor, hey, they all have to start somewhere. Even FC was criticized in the beginning & told he would never make it. I must say, he has improved with age, in acting ability & looks. However, in my youth, I probably would think the young FC hot.

Being 5'2 1/2, used to be 5'3', I love the idea of 5'10'. Wow, you can reach things in the kitchen & grocery store. I can't wear any shoes over 2" now.

Jorge Ramos (newsman) always seems to have novias taller than he is. Doesn't seem to bother him.

Marc Anthony too.

Sara Jessica Parker (Carrie, Sex & the City) & real life fashionista has sworn off extreme high heels.

Wow, hard to visualize SJP not in heels. As Carrie, she even wore them to the horse stables. I am lovin' The Carrie Diaries.

I hope this doesn't count as gossip, but I heard today that SJP is having foot surgery because of years of insane stilettos.

It made sense for Blanca Soto to wear flats through Tal because of the setting.

Anonymous @ 1:32, I am a long-time Dark Shadows fan and wish Televisa would get the rights and do the next version!

It's going to take awhile for me to get used to seeing Moni from UFCS still working at Avon, but as a snooty secre now. I'll keep waiting for Pepe to drop by to smooch her.

But Julia, her new ugly hairstyle is so much different from her old ugly hairstyle.

But she did a few drastic changes of ugly hairstyles in that one. She is such a pretty young lady; I don't know why they have to keep giving her such bad hair.

After a much needed hiatus after the intensity of Refugio, glad to have a TN to comment on. So far I'm liking what I'm seeing. I especially like the completely different role our FC has taken on. Nice departure from the usual wealthy hero roles we see him in.

I was tripping out over the Chicago scenes as most of those were filmed within blocks of where my employer's HQ are located. I was in that area back in mid-June for business and walked Michigan Avenue and Grant Park (where the big silver blog sculpture). My hotel was literally around the corner from Grant Park & across the street from the Chicago River.

Looking forward to seeing what this TN brings us. Hopefully lots of smiles & laughter :-)

I am also a long time fan of DARK SHADOWS, but after the remake, the two Hammerian movies and the Tim Burton parody, I am not sure I would let Televisa handle it.

Ans speaking about PEAM, I have liked this two episodes so far, and I am not a FC fan. I like the way he acts and the way he delivers the funny lines. I wish he could run a DNA test to that girl, because she doesnt look like anybody in the whole soap!! LOL

Better late than never -- my faves from Monday's recap:

- It is a lovely day in Chicago for biceps on bikes to deliver pizzas to the populus.

- Patricia is working overtime.

- As Ury swears revenge the stage is set for madcap moments.

Thanks, Cheryl!
