New Telenovela: Corazon Indomable - Starts May 13th at 7PM

Hey everyone! A new telenovela, Corazón Indomable, will start May 13th at 7pm (the Corona de Lagrimas spot) and we need recappers. If you would like to recap this telenovela, please contact Blog Mom Melinama/Jane at: caray@mappamundi.com

Synopsis:

Corazón Indomable (Indomitable/Untamed Heart) is a Mexican telenovela produced by Nathalie Lartilleux (Cuidado con el Angel) for Televisa. It is a remake of of the well-known Marimar (which was a remake of at least two previous 1970s versions), produced in 1994, and starring Thalía and Eduardo Capetillo. Ana Brenda Contreras (Teresa; La Que No Podia Amar) and Daniel Arenas (Teresa;  Amorcito Corazón) star as the main protagonists, while Elizabeth Álvarez, Rocio Banquells and René Strickler star as the main antagonists.

Maricruz Olivares (Ana Brenda Contreras) lives with Ramiro (Ignacio López Tarso), her maternal grandfather, and with her little sister Soledad/"Solita" (Gaby Mellado) who is a deaf-mute whom Ramiro found abandoned as a baby. Maricruz does not know that she is the daughter of Alejandro Mendoza (César Évora), a millionaire of noble sentiments.

The Narváez Family Ranch is mortgaged because of the inept administration of Miguel (René Strickler), the older brother of Octavio (Daniel Arenas) who has newly arrived back at the ranch since he has lost his job and who wants to sell the ranch and the lands.

Octavio discovers Eusebio (Carlos Cámara), the ranch foreman, mistreating Maricruz and defends her. From that day forward, Octavio is captivated by her beauty, and she tries to make herself more beautiful for him. Octavio becomes infuriated when he discovers how cruelly his sister-in-law Lucía (Elizabeth Álvarez) treats Maricruz. For this reason, to teach Lucía a lesson, he decides to marry the humble young woman.  Esther (Elizabeth Valdez), Lucía’s cousin, helps her make Maricruz’s life hell.

Octavio receives a job offer as a pilot, but before he goes, he puts Miguel in charge of giving Maricruz her portion of the lands/sale of the lands. Miguel promises to do so and Octavio leaves assured. After he leaves, Lucía and Esther set Maricruz up and send her to jail for a crime she didn’t commit. When she gets out of prison, she finds out that her grandfather has been killed, but she doesn’t know that it was the work of Lucía. Maricruz goes to the capital and begins to work as a servant in the home of Alejandro, her father; although neither of them knows of the tie that binds them.

Alejandro transforms her into a lady of society, María Alejandra Mendoza, and makes her the trusted administrator of his businesses, including his boat casino on Isla Dorada. There, Maricruz/María Alejandra will have to confront Carola (Rocío Banquells) and Raiza (Ana Patricia Rojo), two elegant and ambitious sisters who have maintained their grand lifestyle at the expense of Alejandro’s fortune.

Miguel tells his brother Octavio that Maricruz disappeared after the death of her grandfather. Octavio goes to the boat casino, with his best friend and fellow pilot Eduardo (Ricardo Franco), to try to distract himself, but he can’t forget Maricruz. He could never imagine that María Alejandra Mendoza, the head administrator and hostess of the casino, is in reality his wife!

Maricruz and Octavio will put their love to the test, and will discover if together they can correct the errors of the past and start a new life together.

Thanks so much for putting this up.

Wow, this one sounds like it is full of intrigue and love. Wonderful actors in this one too. Daniel Arenas, Ana Brenda Contreras, Rene Stricker, Ana Patricia Rojo as a blonde!

This one, I think, will be better than Corona de Lagrimas : )

Rocio Banquells as a blonde too. It's a bit of a shakeup with Rene S. and Elizabeth A. playing villains, and it's nice to have Cesar E. back in a nice guy role after his villain in AB. There seems to be some good man-candy in the form of Daniel A., Ricardo Franco, and Carlos de la Mota is also on the cast list.

Thanks Vivi---This one sounds good.
I wish that it was in the 8 to 9 or the 9 to 10 slot, 7:00 is a little early but what man can turn
down Ana Brenda? It seems like Univision just keeps comming up with winners over and over again.
the gringo.

all that is just the set up? Sounds like enough plot for a whole show.

Much of the action starts up after she takes on her new identity and starts running the casino. Much the stuff up till then is setting the stage, but it is a LOT of plot.

I recorded Marimar when it was on during the day last year. There are already some ways that I am seeing them update/change the story: Marimar lived by the sea (hence her name)/Maricruz seems to live in the countryside; old Octavio was a professional soccer player/now he's a pilot, both professions are constantly moving from city to city; old Miguel was the father of Octavio/new Miguel is an older brother, makes it easier to accept the young hateful wife character; and Marimar lived with both her grandparents and no siblings/ Maricruz only has a grandfather and an adopted sister.

Ay, yi, yi, be still my heart--a man in uniform!!! And, it's Ricardo Franco, yum yum. I will definitely be watching (for the story, of course), but cannot commit more time.

This one looks spicy and enticing!! The cast are veterans and all of our favs for sure! Rosy Ocampo usually gives us a decent run for our money also. I can help out for a while if you have a hard time filling mondays-thurs.

This show is a great boom now in Mexico. And I can understand why.
It is naive, but very nice novela.
And what I like the most - a lot of action. This plot covers almost 30 episodes and there were much and much more important things
Alegria

Another difference, Marimar had a dog/Maricruz has a monkey. A monkey!

The main difference is that here the monkey is only the monkey. In Marimar the dog was talking all the time
Alegria

Alegria- I almost forgot about that. We could hear the dog's thoughts in Marimar. LOL! Thank goodness the monkey is just a monkey in this tn. I don't know if I could handle a talking monkey. :)

As long as Ana Brenda isn't made to talk like an idiot child the way Thalia was in Marimar I'll watch.

Thalía spoke with a very general costeño accent in Marimar, this accent can be heard in the coastal sites in Mexico and varies a little depending on the place but it has more or less the same characteristics. The accent can be done interchanging the s for a j and completely supressing it at the end of words (in some places the soud of the j is harder, like in Tabasco, but in others like Veracruz it's softer and more like an h). Also common for the costeño accent is adding an emphasis at the words in the begining of sentences while running together the last ones.

Thalía would sometimes mix the costeño accent with a chilango entonation because she is from DF and that's the entonation that comes naturally for her when she tries to put on a local accent (you can hear her sound more natural on María Mercedes and María la del Barrio).

Ana Brenda uses a tamaulipeco accent in Corazón Indomable. It's a norteño kind but it has its own particularities. It sounds very natural because she is from Tamaulipas so she is actually using her own accent so maybe it won't feel as odd to you UA.

They should actually all have accents in this novela and in others taking place in northern areas of Mexico(like PEAM or La Fuerza del Destino). The local accents in the central, coastal and southern areas can be lighter or even not really be heard on some people depending various circumstances(like education, social status, etc.) but in the north pretty much everybody has a heavy accent, it doesn't matter if you are rich or poor or if you went to college or have graduate studies. Also, northern accents are very sticky, you spent four days over there and you start speaking like them.

Jarocha

Jarocha- Thanks as always for dropping in and giving us the cultural perspective, as well as the inside info on these tns. Are you watching this one? We've heard it's popular in Mexico. The near 20 year gap from when they last did this story seems a good amount of time for people to not resent a remake.

Jarocha---I didn't know that there were different accents through out Mexico. I guess that it's like here
New york, Boston,Southern etc. The gringo is learning.
the gringo

Gringo- Are you already forgetting Luciana's Chihuahua accent from Refugio? How could you forget Mushashon?!

Vivi: I don't watch this novela. I find it difficult to find the time to watch 4 pm telenovelas but I always like to check them out from time to time to see how they are doing and how the storyline goes.

I know it is very popular here and many people like it, I still remember Marimar so I can keep up with the story easily but they still have enough differences to give it a new tone and feeling. This kind of story is one the people love over here. I love the Tamaulipas setting because I don't think I've seen it before in a Televisa novela (but I did see it in one of Azteca), hopefully those who choose to watch it in the US will enjoy it.

Jarocha

Gringo: Yes, there are many different accents in Mexico. Telenovelas usually just show the chilango accent from Mexico City because it's so easy to replicate and the actors get to hear it everyday.

It's harder to do other local accents because the studios are in Mexico City and they usually aren't able to spent enough time in locations to mingle with the people and mimic their accent. I like it when they do their best to get it right though, like in Refugio, it gives the story so much more authenticity.

I always forget that PEAM is set in Monterrey because nobody uses a regio accent and that's one of the most popular accents in Mexico and I think it's one of the easiest to imitate. That tone is so sticky, spend thirty minutes talking with a regio and you can easily replicate the sound.

It's funny because I can't do a jarocho accent since it implies changing the sound of consonants and I spent years at school learning not to do that but the regio is all about the tone and there's something in it that is very catchy.

Jarocha

The problem with Thalia as the costen~ita was not her accent. It was her voice. She sounded very childish. Once she dropped the costen~ita accent, she also dropped the childish voice, but at times she reverted to it. Also, she was never a very strong actress. Ana Brenda, on the other hand, is a great actress.

Also, Corazon Indomable is NOT a rewrite of Marimar. The original was a Venezuelan novela named "La Indomable" made in the early 70s. It was then made in Mexico for the first time as "La Venganza" in 1977. It was a straightforward drama, with the great Helena Rojo and Enrique Lizalde. Marimar was the second Mexican version and departed in many ways from the first version, particularly in that it was purposely made to be more a comedy than a drama. Corazon Indomable is actually based on the 1977 version, with the original character names. It retains some minor comedic elements, but it is mostly a drama, with great acting and direction, and very good pacing. I have watched the first 50 episodes on the internet and can't wait to watch them again on my TV when it starts here on Univision. It's that good.

Liza- You're absolutely right. Almost all of these tns are remakes of remakes of remakes (based on stories written in the first half of the 20th century). Remade within each country every 15-20 years, and remade among countries with even greater frequency.

The Thalia version of this story, however, is the best known and the one that was sent far and wide around the world. I think most people in the places this version will be sold will compare it with Marimar. But it's good that they went back to many of the elements from the original story. I have seen this with some other recent remakes too.

So far there seems to be a lot of interest in watching this one, but I haven't seen anyone step up to say they can recap. (Other than an offer to help out from Jardinera, who is already on a recapping team.) I'm considering it. Any other takers?

I hope there are recaps for this one. I understood the decision not to recap CdL since it really is a rather depressing story. I'll be able to watch the first 10 episodes, and then I'll have to read the recaps (when I can) until I get back in late June.

I'm looking forward to this one...though I'm nervous about Daniel Arenas in a dramatic role. He was so wooden in Teresa. He was fabulous in Amorcito Corazon. I much prefer him in a comedic role.

Sara

I can't say that here will be a lot of drama. There will be many funny episodes also. Soa as for me Arenas is ok in his role. I thought he would be worse.
Alegria

La Venganza was made by the same producer of Marimar: Valentín Pimsteín. All the changes reflected the kind of novelas he was making at the time in the 70's and 90's. Pimsteín had a knack for changing his style with time and learning what viewers wanted or needed. During the late 70's people still viewed novelas as realistic stories so he gave them that, the 80's and 90's were really hard times in Mexico (and Latin America) so he made them laugh.

Marimar was a Pimsteín production from the 90's. They had commedy and odd situations but they were very charming. Marimar, María Mercedes, La Pícara Soñadora, Simplemente María, Rosa Salvaje, etc. All international hits.

About actors, I prefer Daniel Arenas to some of the galanes getting leads in telenovelas at the moment like William Levy, Gabriel Soto or David Zepeda (though I like Zepeda as a villain). He is handsome and manly but he can be sweet and kind without sounding corny or forced, he still has to work on his chops but I think he's okay.

Now, an actor that SHOULD have gotten a lead years ago: Marcelo Córdoba. He has it all, why Televisa is not using it like they should? I don't know.

Anon 4:36- Marcelo is one of my favorite telenovios. :) But someone else, I believe Julia, brought up the point that maybe he doesn't want to be the galan, as they are usually written to be wishy washy and less interesting. It was nice to see him get the lead villain in PESE, and to see him win (although I could argue there were stronger candidates in the category, I'm glad he won). But my most favorite role of his was as the bad boy with a heart of gold in La Fuerza del Destino. He was amazing in that role, and far more impressive than the galan in many ways. I would love to see him as a galan, but as a strong and interesting galan.

I will be enjoying this for La India Maria LOL She seems promising in this.

Alright folks, Jane/Melinama has not yet heard from anyone about recapping this tn. Although it looks like there are lots of people who will be watching, 1 full-time recapper (me) and 1 part-time recapper (Jardinera) can't do it alone, and this tn will likely not be recapped on Caray Caray.

Any veteran or newbie recappers out there...speak now or forever hold your peace.

I really want to watch this and recapping seems like a fun challenge. I usually watch tns without captions and can get most of convo's but I do not have the writing chops like most of the amazing recappers here which makes me hesitant....that and I have final exams in the two weeks so I cannot commit until the 24th (a little over a week in to the start of the tn). So I am not sure...

Vivi, I was the anon at 4:36, lol! I forgot to sign my comment.

I think Marcelo does get great roles right now so if the reason he doesn't get to be a galán is that it is his own choice I'll accept it but it would be great for his pocket if he got to play a galán at least once. Also, I personally tend to enjoy a novela better when I love the galán.

Jarocha

Cece- You should definitely give it a try. It's a really great way to flex your Spanish listening skills muscles. If you can't start until after the 24th, we can make it work and fill in for you until then. Seriously consider it.

Jarocha- I DEFINITELY enjoy the tn more when I love the galan. ;-) If Marcelo were a galan, I think I would become a bit obsessed with the tn. LOL!

Hi Vivi. How long is this TN supposed to be? Keep us posted on volunteers.

Karen- I don't know but I'll look around to see what I can find out about the length.

The show was planned to be 165 episodes long. But now tn is very popular, rating is great. So televisa decided to enlarge it. But I read about different numbers of episodes. For now tn is very easy to watch.
Alegria

Is it possible to post a weekly discussion without recaps? It looks like there is a lot of interest in this one.

Thanks for the info Alegria. I never like it when a tn is extended, either because it's popular or because the tn scheduled after it is delayed. At the best, it means there are 20 episodes that feel like you're in a holding pattern where nothing really happens. At the worst, it derails the storyline and things start to get wacky.

Sara- I think the weekly post is our best option right now. I'll reach out to Jane and suggest it so that we can get a tag. Then I'll happily post the header each week. I'll also happily do a recap of the first episode. As we go through the week, anyone who is willing or able to do mini recaps in the comments are welcome to, as we did with Amorcito Corazon.

Thanks Vivi. Now that Univision has 4 primetime TN slots, I'm sure it's more difficult to find recappers. Not to mention this one is 165 episodes and now there's talk of extension. *eye roll*

First week is sooo nice and full of everything. And places. Oh, they filmed in heaven. Yes, the place is called “El Cielo”, so you can imagine how beautiful is.
Alegria

CeCe/CathyX: We can definitely hold the fort till after your finals. Nobody has claimed Wed. Let Melinama know, please, could you? I can take a Tuesday for now to help out.
======

ViviDC: We might be able to stick up hilights of the episodios for the nights without recappers and then compile whatever comes up in a post till somebody volunteers for that day. What do you think?
=======

SaraC: ITSA and you can double the eye rolls!! Uni really needs to delete the 10PM Eastern slot IMNSHO. Most of the time I end up falling asleep and watching the tape the next AM. Those who work regularly cannot help but do the same I'm sure. But they're competing with Telemundo and their drug cartel dramas I suppose and maybe the extra time zone I think they have down there....???

Thanks Vivi and Alegria.

I like Sara's idea of the weekly header. I would love to recap but am in serious transition now (leaving old job, waiting to hear about new one) otherwise I'd help.

Jardinera- Good suggestion we can do a daily post, at least for the first two weeks, and see if it generates any additional interest in recapping. I can do Mondays, you can do Tuesdays, and we'll wing it with mini-recaps from the comments from there. Either you or I could put up the header the remainder of the week.

After the first two weeks, if we are either not generating enough comments or don't have any additional recappers, I say we then go to a 1-3 x per week post. How does that sound?

Karen- Good luck with the new job! Will this mean a move for you? I know it's what you've wanted for a while.

I will give this one a try! Already sent an email. Friday is the best for me if it is not taken. Hopefully we can get more recappers, this seems like a good tn.

Vivi, Jardinera, how do I contact Melinama?

Thanks Vivi. Yes I will be moving once I determine the next step.

Cathyx - Melinama/Jane's e-mail is caray@mappamundi.com.

Cece and Cathyx- Yay! Could you both e-mail me please. You can find my e-mail by clicking on my name/avatar.

Looks like the schedule is:
Monday- Vivi
Tuesday- Jardinera (at least temporarily)
Wednesday- ?
Thursday- ?
Friday- Cece

I'm willing to try Thursday recaps, hoping that someone more competent will step in later. I'll email Jane/Melinama.

La Paloma

Yay La Paloma! Please e-mail me too.

Cathyx- Can you do Wednesdays?

Yes, Wednesdays show.

Excellent Cathyx! :) E-mail me please.

The recapping lineup:

Monday- Vivi
Tuesday- Jardinera
Wednesday- Cathyx
Thursday- La Paloma
Friday- Cece

Thanks for stepping up to the plate ladies!

Vivi, I emailed you and never mind about the question of when it starts. I actually read the title just now and I know when it starts, lol.

I see the recapping team is complete, but I wouldn't mind jumping in, too.
Right now I'm recapping Pasion Prohibida, too, but one day a week with the new TN would be fun.
Just let me know if you still need me.
Thanks

AdrianaNoel- Yay! We could definitely use you to either share a day with one of us, or to take over a day. Jardinera, for example, is also already recapping a show (Que Bonito Amor), so she may appreciate being able to share Tuesdays.

And Cece can't start recapping until the 24th, so we for sure need someone to recap on the 17th. E-mail me and I'll pull you into our recapping team discussion.

Message coming...just having some technical difficulties with my e-mail. I can take on the 17th for now, and then we'll see.

If you guys will have me I think I can help. The 7pm time is a whole lot better than the 10:00 for QBA, so I should br able to do it without any issues.

Ellie- Thanks so much. We now have a full line up, including an alternate with Ardriana Noel. But if we need someone to sub, we will send a shout out to you. I have really enjoyed your QBA recaps.

Thanks Vivi!

This does sound like a good one. I don't know if my DVR can take the strain, but I'm going to try to watch.

I just found your blog a few days ago, so I have never recapped here and I also am not familiar with acceptable recapping styles. But I would love the chance to recap. I speak Spanish, and I've been watching the Mexico broadcast (55 episodes so far) of C.I. online. I enjoy this one so much that I'm planning to watch it again from the beginning on Univision.

Liza- Thanks so much for the offer. We now have a full recapping team, but there will certainly be times when one of us can't do it, so it would be great if you would be available to fill in at some point, and at the same time get some recapping experience to see how you like it. Tuesdays May eventually need another recapper, so stay tuned.

Liza and Ellie- Would either of you like to share Wednesday with Cathyx? E-mail me.

Can't we get the full story to read?

woow!!!!!Ana brenda contreras looks determined.i like her
