C I Cap. 73 8/22/13 They May Be Casino Women with Dubious Reputations, But They Have Hearts of Gold.

Many of the short scenes have been grouped for a smoother flow, so some may be out of sequence.  The primary focus this episode is Miguelito’s continuing medical/financial crisis.

Previously—Supplicant Lucia asks MA about a loan. Denied! MariAle says the ranch is not worth anything, shows her IOUs signed by Miguel.

Octavio comes to the Gov and explains he can’t marry Doris due to problems delaying the divorce.  The Gov’s perturbed, since he has plans for his own marriage with MariAle.

New Action Begins in the Headquarters of the Love Gov
The Gov ponders what will he do to make this woman his wife?  Doris enters the office and her father says “We need to talk.”  Not good news, as he says no marriage due to stalled divorce for Octavio.  As the fiancée of a married man, she would damage their family reputation, so she must wait.  She says no lo accepto—she refuses.  (Are we surprised?)

Later, she hashes over the problem with Mariana. Her friend offers some sage advice:  it’s out of your hands, you’re not rejected, stop seeing Tav and find a better boyfriend.  In short, grow up.  Doris, of course, thinks she knows better, she’ll wait for him and sooner or later (tarde o temprano) he’ll be hers.

The Pathetic Problem of MiniMigi’s Medical Money Mess
Lucia is still pleading about her sick child.  MA says no one was thinking of a sick child when they were wasting the money and Lucia agrees.

Lucia tells Tav she went to see MA for money and was refused.  Her son is lost!  “No,” says Tav, “we’ll find a way.”  “How could Miguel do this,” laments Lucia.  Tav stands up for his bro, saying he already has enough punishment, don’t scold him. “None of us has a clean conscience,” Tav claims. “Because of that wild girl?” Lucia asks and Tav assents.  Lucia says MariAle is MariCruz, with Octavio agreeing.

Oblivio then takes his hawt body and vacant mind to MA’s office to see what he can achieve.  MA explains she told Lucia the truth about the ranch’s status. Tav thinks she knows a lot about his family; is she sure she doesn’t know him from before?  He tells the story of their earlier relationship, from his point of view, complete with black & white flashbacks.  MA pays close attention, then says it would do no good for her to remember the story, since it’s nothing to do with the present situation.

And, if her heart was ever broken, it’s completely fixed now.  She’s a business woman who has to think like one to come out ahead.  Tav says Lucia would be very disappointed.  MA asks, “You have pity for Lucia?” He says “Why not? One thing is sure, she’s not as bad as you.”

Oooh, burn! Tav slams out of office and MA sheds angry tears, pierced to the heart.

Tav reports to Lucia that MA is very intelligent. He tried to trap her, but she didn’t fall for it. He couldn’t find out if she was MC.  He tells Miguel no way they’ll get the money they need.  MC has only hatred and rancor for us.  He says he can’t ask Doris for the money, since he’s no longer engaged to her.  In fact, he’s glad of that—the engagement was like a shackle.

Our Newly Engaged Man Acts Manly
Ed and Arecely are in the antique shop, with Ed giving advice. (Boy, did he get cheated in this TN. He’s acting like an old granny here.)  She shouldn’t get trapped behind the counter with the owner, Angel.  Nor should she accept any food or drink from him, even chocolate.  Ed will be her one and only candy man.  Arecely says he shouldn’t be so jealous. (‘Scuse me, girl. Didn’t you just work a scam to make him that way?)

More MiniMigi’s Medical Money Mess
MA calls Raiza to come to her office.  Raiza asks what problem is MA facing and MA reveals she is thinking of MiniMigi’s need for surgery. Raiza thinks this is a case of children paying for sins of parents.

MariAle, feeling compassion for MiniMigi, will put up the surgery money, but send it through Raiza.  Raiza will loan it to Miguel, saying it’s her savings and the loan is due to their relationship.  She wants to give them the money without them knowing it came from her. She’ll play the devil and that’s how it has to be. She hates the family, but can’t let the child suffer.

Miguel and Tav discuss once more how to get money to save MiniMigi from lasting brain damage. (Were the brothers dropped on their heads as infants?  A theory worth considering.)  The phone rings and it’s Raiza, with the good news that she has money to loan for the operation.

Raiza is still on phone with Miguel, who is dumfounded with her generous offer.  Tav takes over the phone and warns the semi-floozy not to try to attract Miguel with tricks.  She protests her sincerity.  Tav reminds her they don’t know when they could repay the loan.  No problema, she’s doing it from love.  The bros hug for joy, tears filling their eyes in a great replay moment.

Miguel shares the news with Lucia--they now have the money and won’t have to delay the surgery.  Lucia is thrilled, but asks who is the benefactor? Mig does a mental shuffle and claims Tav has connections.   Tav and Ed wonder if Raiza so in love with Miguel?  Her offer surprised Tav and they may have to look at her differently.

MA is in her office with Raiza.  She gives the medical windfall to her employee and remarks what she wants most right now is to save the child of her worst enemies. (See, there is a little crack in that heart of stone!)

Miguel and Lucia are snuggled on a couch, discussing future plans. The surgery needs to be done in Mexico (DF) and Lucia will take Miguelito there. Dad will stay at work in the casino.  She’s worried about repaying the money, but he says don’t worry.

Just In Case We Were Ignoring Determined Doris
Doris comes to the hotel, where the clerk says Octavio is not in his room.  She bribes the clerk, insulting him as she hands him some money, and orders him to go get Tav. When our galan arrives, he’s not in a compliant mood. A waspish Doris says he can’t just put her aside. He’s a coward who won’t dare break convention.  He reiterates his position as a married man.  She kisses him and sweeps away, leaving him to stand there, wiping her kiss from his lips. (Better a coward than a henpecked slave with a life sentence.)

Meanwhile Back At the Ranch
Ester and JA are strolling and arguing. He wonders why she has an umbrella and she explains it’s to keep the sun from her skin. Their discussion of peasant women’s skin care morphs into an argument on where they’ll build their house. Simona’s offer of land on her estate won’t do for JA, as it wouldn’t really be his. They could burn him out, the way they did Ramiro!

Ester and JA continue negotiations on their future.  She is bothered by his obsession with MA and his plan to build a home in the free lands, where criminals live.  Whoa there, little lady! Good people also live in the free lands! They raise families and rent is non-existent! His pride scares her! Too bad, pride is all he has!

Simona and Ester are analyzing Ester’s future in the luxurious shade of the estate lawn. Ester will have a shanty (jacal) for a home. Ester will go to the ends of the world with JA!  Simona pities her. Ester shrugs it off as fate. The sensible Simona says no, it’s your own doing.  Ester would rather live in   poverty than be lonely with an empty life. (Don’t know why Ester didn’t try harder to attract Ed?)

Other Determined Characters We Were Happily Ignoring
Karim and Angel are interviewing again, this time more happily for Angel. He’ll work for Karim, but as a secretary, not a slave. If he’s mistreated, he’s outta there.

A Little One Who Won’t Be Ignored Much Longer
MariAle is at home with Juanita and Lupita. As she plays with her daughter, she muses how any child could suffer, even her cutie.  The doorbell signals delivery of a large document for MA. Karim owns the villa they live in and won’t renew the expiring lease.  The helpful Juanita suggests buying a house or even taking advantage of the Gov to obtain housing.  She could even marry him and live in a mansion.

Back in musing mode, MA thinks “I couldn’t be with anyone but Octavio. He dazzled me and I still love him.  My hands get cold and my heart starts racing when I see him.”  (Could be a medical problem from all those hours working at the casino.)

Lupita, who has been gazing into the camera, sends us mysterious baby thoughts, possibly something like: “I try, I really do. I’m doing my best to be sweet and appealing, but does it do any good?  Do they take me to meet my two baby cousins? Do I go to the park on outings anymore? I might as well have screaming fits or colic to get some attention. Maybe I should look for a staircase.”

MA receives a phone call from her lawyer with the news that Octavio wants to see his child. He has filed a demand for a visit, which must be satisfied in seven days.

Previews—MA must figure out how to meet Octavio’s demand to see his daughter.

La Paloma- LOL! You had me spitting out my tea laughing at Lupita's thoughts. :) Great recap.

I'm glad Tav's guilt trip reminded MA that she isn't evil and prompted her to provide money for the surgery. I'm still disappointed in her that she ever intended to deny them the money for Miguelito's surgery. But she returned to herself. Good.

Her divorce demands have actually done Tav two favors. He has the perfect excuse not to marry that shrew. And now he has a legal way to see his daughter, since he's being required to pay child support. I guess Mari's lawyers didn't explain that likely outcome of her demands against Tav. Now, how will she manage to keep herself hidden during these visits?

"Could be a medical problem from working all of those hours at the casino" indeed! Very funny thanks for the recap!

Can' t wait until Octavio knows and believes everything that his family did to Maricruz (Lucia actively and Miguel by his passive ignorance) so he does not expect a reaction other than hatred for him and his family. Also, Lucia/Miguel must have some jewelry, clothes, furniture, vehicles, that could be sold. They could also live without "the help." Of course, that wouldn't force them to deal with the only source of a loan: Maricruz.

Jarifa

How about Maricruz showing up as the old, wild thing...little white ribbons in her hair and stuff. Bring Solita and her bebe. Spider monkey. No shoes. Dirty feet. Same white dress. Wonder if Oblivio would feel just a tiny bit of remorse. Nope he is too stupid! Wow. They pay this guy to fly a plane.

Why hasn't Teo contacted Maria Alejandra?

Vivi in DC, I think MC denied to give money only because Lucia and Tav asked. She wants to be bad for them. But it doesn't meant she deny to give money at all.
Alegria

Who was going to ask, if not Miguel, Tav, or Lucia-- all who she would say no to? It's not like Miguelito was going to be able to ask her himself.

She could give money through Raiza. As she did.
If she said yes to Tav or Lucia, they will think that she is a weak woman, but she wants then to hate her, to be afraid of her.
Alegria

She did not get the idea to do that until Tav called her a bad person and shamed her into providing the money after all. Before that moment she did not intend to give them the money up front or secretly. But I am sure that given time, her conscience would have gotten to her and she would have done what she is doing now. But it was not her original intent, and it was Tav's words that sped up her conscience taking over. I am disappointed that she even considered it, even though I know she would have never gone through with it in the end.

She had no time to think. At first came Lucia, then came Tav. She denied to give money to them and I can't blame her. But she not denied to give it to the baby. It's different.
Alegria

"hawt body and vacant mind" LOL - too funny. Great recap La Paloma! And the Lupita thoughts to the camera was hysterical. Hey, mom can do it, so can she!!
But I'll give the hunk some slack, there are sparks flying now, just need all the little nerve endings working in unison to the brain.

Vivi, I have to side with you on this. I definitely read the scenes playing out last night that Mari may not have offered up the money until Tav basically shamed her into doing it by pointing out she was as bad as her supposed enemy in her attitude. That left me a little perplexed, but maybe she needed that jog to realize how cold and calculating she had become. One thing to want your "revenge", but becoming no better than your enemy and using a child...so not cool.

So now we have the new plot twist of Tav wanting to see his daughter. He's seen Lupita, so hello, wouldn't that be an issue? Solita had a boy, right, so they can't pass him off as his "daughter". This should be interesting.

Anyone hate me for wanting Karim too just go away? I love the actor, but the character is getting on my last nerve. But I wouldn't put it past MC, after her little confidential chat with him, to do something stupid with him versus the governator to keep a roof over her head, etc.

My beanie is fried already, I guess we just roll with this now.

Daisynjay

Such a fun recap, with alliterative headings (fave: Determined Doris) and lots of snark:

hawt body and vacant mind

Ed will be her one and only candy man

MiniMigi and of course Lupita's supposed thoughts on her casual, oh-are-you-still-here? treatment).

I'm with DaisynJay though, my beanie is fried so why not roll with it.

Enjoyed the recap immensely la Paloma.

La Paloma, this was hilarious.

Vivi - ITA that MA was on a bad path and did need some prodding from the dunce.

Jarifa - ITA w/you about Tav but aside from the writers wims what will it take for Tav to believe what everyone except Lucia has told him? Though I haven't watched TNs for that long, he has now own the dumbest galan award for me.

Daisynjay - you are not only in wanting Karim to go away and I think your conjecture about MA doing something silly with him instead of the gov could come to pass. Yet how a person would ever trust a man that tried to kidnap her and accuse her of murder is beyond the beanie.

Another thing I wonder--most TNs have the heroine in danger at some point, either peril or illness. If Karim makes another attempt on MA, there's an opportunity for Tav to rescue her. Or Teo/Angel. Don't think the Gov could do it. Doris might try something bad, as well. Also Lupita could be in danger, with MA and Tav working together to get her back.

Great recap and hysterical asides!

I agree with most of what has been said regarding MA, Tav, and Lucia triangle.

My confusion lays in why does Teo want to work for Karim? What is his angle there? And who actually owns the antique shop that "Angel" is supposed to own? How did Teo afford a shop, and to run it, while working on the boat? Did he suddenly buy it with the money he was stealing and using for his operations? I don't mind Karim if he stays away from being crazy and stays normal. I think it would be a nice show of one of the characters growing in a positive way. I must admit, I fast forward through most of the Teo/Angel/Araceli scenes. Unless Ed is in them bec he is nice to look at ;)

La Paloma- There is definitely a lot of story to go. I wouldn't mind being done with this phase soon, and moving on to Mari and Tav laying all their cards on the table and hashing it all out, with the whole truth out in the open. Then we could actually get to yet another phase where they work together to accomplish a common goal (like saving Lupita from something/someone). I'm afraid that we'll be in the current phase for a while yet though.

Thanks so much La Paloma! I also loved hearing Lupita's thought bubbles.

I can't wait to see how this whole visitation thing works out.

Oct actually said NO to Doris several times this episode. Wow - a miracle.

Thank you for the hysterical recap La Paloma. I'll never see Lupita again without imagining her saying those things.

Personally I don't feel like MA is obligated to give Miguel and Lucia any amount of money for anything. She didn't push Miguelito down the stairs, and she didn't hire someone to do it. She's never even met him. Why should she feel guilty about his having taken a fall down some stairs? The man who fell into a drunken stupor while babysitting him is the guilty party here. His need for an emergent crani has no more to do with her than any other accident-prone nino on the island.

Paul at first I thought the same thing, that MA didn't owe them but Miguelito is Lupita's cousin. Like it or not, they are family and so MA should help if she can.

Paul- Sure. I guess anyone could say that about giving to various charities and causes too. It gets even more emotionally tricky though when you know the people going through the crisis directly (even if you've never met the child and don't like the adults), the child is related to your own child, and you've contributing to the financial crisis (even if you didn't cause all of it).

Thanks for this hilarious recap, Paloma. Well done.

Well, whatever it was that finally motivated Maricruz to help out, at least we know that there is something of a heart in that pretty chest.

I'm really beginning to dislike José Antonio. So he has a great deal of pride but apparently zero ambition. What a hopeless mope.

Carlos

Fair enough Carvivlie and Vivi. I just don't feel that it makes her "evil" (didn't Octavio call her that?) for not feeling obligated to do it at first. But I knew she was a mensch under all that beautiful hair and couture wardrobe all along :)

Miguel coming to Isla Dorada because he shot Eusebio, and Lucia following him are all a result of Lucia's crazy/evil actions.

But once Miguel arrived, it was Mari who took advantage and got him in a position where he couldn't borrow money against the ranch to pay for his child's surgery.

So, in that way she had an obligation to help the child, IMO.

Thank you La Paloma, I liked MA's plan for giving the money for the operation. This way Lucia will still continue the fits of jealousy so that will cause future upheaval for the evil couple.
I disagree about MA only giving the money for what Octavio said, which was a very awful thing to say to her. He completely disowns the awful things his brother and sis in law have done to MC. I think she wanted to stay cold and strong to the Narvaez but still wanted to help the child. She picked the best way to do that.

I hate the Ester and JA story line. I wish it didn't exist and I see no reason for it.

The best way for the governor to be able to marry MA is for him to simply eliminate ShutUpDoris. Kill her off. I know he never would, but a girl can dream.

La Paloma --A great and quick read! My fav snarkism: "Were the brothers dropped on their heads as infants? A theory worth considering." LOL!

Loved your Doris descriptors, also: Determined Doris, Waspish Doris. --And your subtitles like "Just In Case We Were Ignoring Determined Doris" and "Other Determined Characters We Were Happily Ignoring"...--muy snicker-worthy, amiga!
===

Ok, now for my rant re: Oblivio--and I'm certain it's all be said long before, but it's bubbling up and I'm on a roll.

"One thing is sure, she’s not as bad as you!"--SLAP! Our status conscious stud still hasn't heard all the rotten things Lucia did--and I doubt he'll ever believe them once he does, especially about Lucia's making the naive and well-meaning MC eat mud to save some silly necklace for Tav. That burns me to chicharrones. He always believed his family over his wife and still does, tho' he's seemingly aware of their basic personality traits and flaws. Sure he cared for MC up to a point, thought she was pretty and was great in bed. He didn't think past that. When he'd had enough good sex for a while, he dumps her. Scatterbrained young man? Alright. Here I agree. However, if he thought to provide for her, he might have separated legally to begin with and legally provided certain things for her and her family so that there'd be no question and nothing left to chance--like most people do in the civilizedworld--instead of asking his torpid brother to take over the responsibility. Additionally, that would have insured JA could have legally taken over care of MC and allowed her to start over in life with a man of her background who he knew loved her. He wouldn't even do that. GRRRRR!!

Carlos, I agree with you about JA. What is his problem? I understand some of his grievances but if you can provide a better life for your wife and child shouldn't you do it? Compromises need to be made. Esther is so desperate at the moment she is following but her head is going to turn on again and then I think that things are going to explode. Maybe when MC comes back to the ranch JA will change his opinion on how things should be done.

@Paul: MC paid Raiza to turn Miguel into a drunkard so that he would gamble away the family's fortune, and Miguelito's fall was collateral damage. MC is responsible to some degree, but the real blame should fall on Lucia, who left her baby with an intoxicated babysitter.

@Cathyx: I think the whole Esther-JA storyline is intended to give the females in Viewerville some more JA sightings. Or maybe to keep Esther around because she knows what dastardly deeds Lucia has done.

And if MC is this angry over eating dirt and spending a couple of nights in jail, just wait until she finds out that Lucia arranged for Eusebio to kill her grandfather!

Jardinera- ITA about everything you said about Tav. It's all been said before (especially at the time when he was in the midst of abandoning Mari), but bears repeating again.

As mixed up as our heroine is, our hero is not a hero in the slightest terms.

Paul- ITA Mari is not evil. I never thought she was. That's precisely why I was disappointed she even considered using Miguelito as collateral damage.

Hilarious, La Paloma. "Ed will be her one and only candy man".....this made me laugh so hard for some reason. The theory about Tav and Miguel getting dropped on their heads is definitely worth considering! Even Lucia has pretty much figured out that MA is Maricruz! The best lines, of course, were Lupita's mysterious baby thoughts. I am appalled that Octavio just thought of visiting his bebe.

Really not much to say about the epi. I loved MC's show of compassion.

Give me a break. MC is the only one, who can help? And what about Simona? She is so devoted friend to those family, so why not ask her? What? Octavio don't want to marry her? Of course, Doris is much more pretty.
So MC is guilty, and what about the others? MA is nobody to this family, but they all went to her and blame her. Octavio's novia and family's friena are palomas blancas.
And Lucia is better then MA. Aga. Save the world from such a good people.
Alegria

Thank you La Paloma for a great and funny recap. And thank you for introducing new words to my vocabulary. Minimigi and Hawt. I started watching CI because I loved Daniel's hawt bod as Willy Pizon. Am disappointed that he is such a dork as Tav.
I too am growing tired fo the Arci/Ed thing. Wish they would elope and go off to live happily ever after. Perhaps a postcard from them later.
I loved Juan Antonio as the gentle soul, but see a mean side emerging. Ester should read the signs and let it go.

Doris you have nt idea what it is like to be married to a indifferent, weak man, Get smart and look elsewhere.

Carlos, I also agree. I really did not like José Antonio's behaviour. He sounded muy macho and ignorante, and it sounds like he has no love for Ester just wants to humiliate her for her upper class background.

I almost feel sorry for Doris, because she is being used by everyone! She didn't intentionally steal another woman's man. Still, I hope she learns some humility and humanity, but I assume she'll just eventually flit away with all her wealth and find another boy toy.

Did Carola just evaporate? I know she was bought out, but where do you go with your new riches if you already are living on a tropical island paradise? Oh yeah, she must be with TONY!!

Daniela- Silly Tony stayed behind on the Island. He really should have worked that handsome smile a little more and convinced Carola to take him with her. Do we suppose she's in Europe somewhere? If she were smart, she would take a page from India Maria's book and stay gone.

It might be better for Solita and Tobi to stay off-screen. The only person who has become more likeable the more screen time they get is Raiza (and she started out from the bottom). Everyone else, including formerly likeable JA and Santa, have become annoying of late.

Thank you La Paloma for a great recap---your gold star line this time arround was --- Oblivio then takes his hawt body and vacent mind
to MA's office to see what he can achieve.
I also liked---Tav takes over the phone and warns the semi-floozy. Wasn't sure what Raiza was before, now I know.
Another line that interested me was---His pride scares her! Too bad
pride is all he has. Yes, pride is all he has but what does Ester have? We have never been told. I guess that she doesn't have anything more than a good education

The subject from yesterday is still alive today, this time with Lupita's thought bubbles. So now we have Lupita chastising Mari as little Lupita is oh so lonley from lack of motherly attention. PLEASE!
Carlos, I hope that you saw the motherly bonding last night and didn't miss it while you were out getting some tequila. Mari is a good mother to Lupita and NO!!! Lupita is not suffering from lack of motherly love. As Cathyx stated
yesterday, the show focuses more on Mari's work life and less on her home life. It's as simple as that.

Alegria---I agree with you, Mari had no time to think. I believe that she would have given the money
to help little Miguelito---yes, Tav
may have hastened her decision but,
she would have given it sooner or later.

Talking about the loan---Miguel didn't sign anything when he received the money---what proof does either Mari or Raiza have that they gave Miguel and Lucifer the money for the operation?

Golawah---What if Maricruz shows up
as the old Maricruz--no shoes, dirty feet and the same white dress? Great Idea, I would love to see that. It was stated before that Maricruz should do that at the divorce hearings. That would be
a hoot and would fry the one brain cell that Tav has left.

Yes, there is a lot that can still
happen in upcoming episodes. A Maricruz kidnapping or possibly an
airplane problem, a crash landing or something like that with Mari at Oblivio's bedside day and night
untill he pulls through. There are
many possibilities.
the gringo

Just saw that Ricardo Franco (Ed) will be in a new Carlos Moreno production, "Quiero Amarte," which will also have Cristian de la Fuente and Alex Sirvent. Hope it comes to one of my channels.

I think it's hilarious that Octavio is still not sure that MA is MC. He's almost sure, but not quite. haha.
All MA has to do is have the baby show up with the nanny or another nanny for the visit with Octavio. No need for her to be there.

gringo,

" I guess that she doesn't have anything more than a good education"

Hmmmm. Well, if I had to choose one thing...

"Carlos, I hope that you saw the motherly bonding last night..."

If you meant her holding the kid in her lap for a few seconds... I did... I was overwhelmed.

Carlos

Carlos---They never show anything about Esther's personal life history, her home family etc. All that they, the writers have given us is that she is educated and probably upper classed or at the least middle classed but other than that, we know nothing about her. It would be good if they show even a little of Ester and JA making plans for their future.
the gringo

Golawah: ITA with you and Gringo. Let MA retrieve her rags of old and wear those to the divorce hearing. Alimony and child support would eat up every bit of that pilot's "comfortable salary". It would also be the best way for MA to continue the deception when handing over the baby for Oblivio's "inspection". He'd be dying for custody of minicruz but wouldn't be able to afford either the time or a full time nanny due to alimony and we know that Lucifer and Migui will be wishing they still had that jacal on their property after the MariAle throws them off the rancho and out on their backsides.

Carlos: If they showed all the time MC is spending with baby Lupita, or learning sign language, it would be like a scene from the movie "The Straight Story." In that movie, an elderly man can't get a driver's license so he decides to drive a riding lawn mower to see his ailing brother, who lives more than 200 miles away. In between the exciting scenes, the viewer sees minute after inexorable minute of the slow progress down the asphalt.

Gringo, I do like MariAle and Tav, even with all their flaws. Lupita was staring at the camera so hard, I just felt like she was trying to tell us something. Remember, I said POSSIBLY something like... It's ok if you make up a different speech for Lupita, about how she loves her life.

La Paloma---Lupita loves her mommy
