Corazon Indomable #72 What's that buring smell? Could it be Oblivio's neurons firing?

Hi all. Eli's computer got a virus, so I'm doing the recap today.

So Karim proposes marriage to MA, and Octavio proposes marriage between JA and Ester, well, actually insists on marriage for them.

ShutUpDoris is in a bathing suit this time talking about the usual with Mariana.

Octavio is back at the ranch for another repeat discussion about Ester marrying JA. Ester is so in love that she is willing to live in a shack. Except once the honeymoon phase wears off and that shack has no air conditioning during those hot Mexican summers and a toddler who wants you to hold him all day long and your skin just sticks together in the heat, I think you will regret your decision.

Ed is at Areceli’s house having decided that marriage is actually for him. He wonders about the antique shop owner, what’s he going to do? Areceli said that he will wait around in case she changes her mind.

Ester and JA are having an argument about what Octavio did to MC. Octavio overhears the argument and insists that he marry Ester. JA still doesn’t trust the rich folk and they almost get into a fight until Ester, of course, has a pain and falters to the ground. JA agrees to marry her.

MA is acting like a mommy again and lets Juanita know that in the future, only MA will take the baby for a walk because she doesn’t know what might happen.

Octavio pays a visit to Simona. He fills her in on why he’s back at the ranch. Simona tells him that she found out that MC is the daughter of a really rich guy. That gives Octavio pause. Now? Now will he figure it out? Doubt it.

MA vows her usual and repeats her usual.

Lucia yells at Miguel that he better sell the ranch so that they can have the money for the operation. Miguel rings his hands.

Doris is still plotting to separate the gov and MA.

Octavio visits some office called Ejido el Nacimiento that has the paperwork that MA left for what her conditions are for granting a divorce. He reads them to Octavio.
Economic compensation from the time he left her alone
Compensation for the care of their daughter (Clue, Octavio, clue)
payment for abandonment and mistreatment from his family, death of her grandfather, and for the wrongful accusation of being a criminal
Octavio is appalled. He says they are both crazy and he will fight it because it’s all false.

Octavio is arriving back at the isla with Ed and whines about all the demands MC is putting on him in order to grant the divorce. Ed says enough already, and so do I. What a whiner. Poor Octavio has to pay for all the crap that happened to his wife while he abandoned her. Wah.

Ugh! Karim is back at MA’s office. Now he’s back to being obsessed with her and needs to have her. Pronto! I feel like I’m using a lot of exclamation points in this recap!

Back to Oblivio, he wants to see his daughter. He must find her! Ok, I’ve reached my limit on this estupido man. Just go to MA’s house, you idiot!!!! Now he tells Ed that he has a crazy idea that MA and MC are the same person! Ed replies that if that’s true, so what? Then, Oblivio says, that makes me in love with my own wife. What irony! Ugh!x10.

MA tries to calm Karim down. She explains that she’s still in love with her exhusband. But he yada, yada, yada, her and she now wants vengeance. He then wonders why she led him on and what about the rumors of her marrying the governor? She admits she fed the rumors in order to protect herself, but she can’t marry anyone because she’s still married to jerkface. He says he understands. Really? Cause I don’t. They then get down to casino business, but Karim is not into it. He doesn’t care about the casino. She says he needs a hobby.

Oblivo finally thinks of others beside himself and asks Ed about Miguelito. Ed overdramatizes his reaction to the question with a long pained pause before he answers. He mentions the need for the operation. And they need Octavio to sell his half of the ranch to help pay for it. Oblivio says MC is demanding his portion of it, so it’s not available. There are only 2 places to get that money, MA and Doris. I would like him to try Doris. At least it would be a different conversation than she’s had since she’s been on this show. But Oblivio figures that if MA is MC, then she will never give the money, and he will have to pay Doris back by marrying her. Except he can’t since he’s already married and we’ve made that clear for several days now.

Ed comes home and Miguel is waiting in the lobby. Miguel says they need $20,000 for the operation. $20,000 for brain surgery! Ed says that MC is claiming Octavio’s portion of the ranch, so they have to get the money some other way.

Lucia is pleading with Octavio about the operation and the money. He then fills her in on Ester and JA getting married, and that MC has gotten a lawyer. Now Lucia freaks that they won’t have the money for the operation. I am now officially sick of Lucia crying and whining in every scene.

Creepy Andres scene ahead. He’s talking to Doris’s friend, Isabel. He says that now that his sister is going to marry another, he’s got to leave and do something else. She lets on that she’s interested in him but he tells her that he only thinks of her like a sister. So let me see if I have this right. He sees this girl who isn’t related to him like a sister, and the girl who is his sister, like a lover.Yuck!

Lucrazia is talking to a sleeping Miguelito. How do they get that kid to sleep so much? Anyway, she is going to go to MA and plead with her with her best pleading voice to get MA to loan them the money. No one can turn down Lucia when she uses her best pleading voice.

Lucia arrives just as MA is leaving her office. She asks if she remembers her. MA says she’s the wife of an employee of her. Lucia says she has come to talk with her, not as the wife of one of her employees, but as one mother to another. While this is going on, Octavio, Miguel and Ed are having a discussion of where the money will come from for the operation. MA and Lucia go back to the office.  Lucia asks for a loan with the ranch as collateral. MA informs her that she knows all about the ranch. But the ranch is already in hoc to her over Miguels loans. Lucia is shocked!

Octavio visits the governor. He informs him that he went back home to get the divorce, only to find out there are complications, and he can not get a divorce, therefore, he can not marry ShutUpDoris. And the coward wants the governor to tell Doris. Gov says that that will interfere with his own plans of getting married, and he’s profoundly in love so they all have to get married.

Lucia says that it can’t be true. Miguel would never do that. MA shows her the evidence. He spent the money on gambling, drinking and another thing that MA will not say, but we know she wants her to imagine that it was on women. We end with that crazy staring look by Lucia, MA with that gotcha look.

"MA is acting like a mommy again and lets Juanita know that in the future, only MA will take the baby for a walk because she doesn’t know what might happen."
Two things about this maternal scene. 1)The writers have figured a way to finally stop the baby from screaming while in the hand of the strange "mother", MC; they stuck a bottle in her mouth. Baby, mommy and Viwerville happy with this change. 2) While MA said she was going to spend more time with said child, she's immediately back at the Casino, dealing with the lawyers, ex-Amir, and gleefully telling her sister-in-law: your husband gambled away his share of the ranch. With all her suitors and lawsuit -- well her entire revenge plan on all fronts -- projects will leave mommy dearest little time to devote to the infant. Maybe her sister can come and help out.

Thank you, cathyx, for the great recap. I don't know how you guys do it especially when you are filling in on the fly so to speak!

I liked that Teo and his alter ego's plan worked and Ed has finally proposed to Aracely. I hope that romance has a happy ending.

I loved Maricruz showing Lucía all of Miguel's IOU's.

Jarifa

Oh my, I can tell a mother wrote this!..."just wait until you're in a shack in the hot sticky Mexico weather with a toddler who wants you to hold him all day." Amen sistah. Or nursing a baby. I always got a rush of heat doing that, and without air-conditioning (tight budget) I really felt it.

Have we ever seen a character as bipolar as the Ex-mir? (thanks Jardinera). He whips back and forth between vengeance and anorous marriage proposals within the space of a few minutes. The one area in which he is consistent is his contempt for women's brains and leadership skills...like he has either one of those! Oh my.

Normally merciful, I have to admit a quiet satisfaction watching Lucia verbally grovel before Maricruz. She's down en el fango emotionally if not physically. What goes 'round comes 'round.

Loved your title, CathyX. Octavio's neurons aren't used to firing so they may short out tonight. We'll see! Thanks for an excellent recap and we'll hope Eli's computer virus is dealt with quickly.

Thanks for the recap!

I have to admit i kinda liked MA confiding in Karim, even though he seems to be crazy one minute and human the next. Maybe she can get Karim and Doris together. Karim seems to like his women annoying and insulting.

I wish Tav would run into Solita and Tobias and Solita becomes the soothsayer (with Tobias translating)that makes Tav finally believe the truth of Lucia's actions.

Thanks for the quick fill-in recap Cathyx! I haven't had a chance to see this episode yet.

So, do you think Karim is serious, or does he just have his own type of long-term revenge plan that he's trying to con Mari into?

Does Mari see the irony of Tav using and tossing her; and her doing the same to the Gov? What if he tries to get revenge on her afterwards? Would she understand his need to do so?

Oh, man. Miguel is going to be in BIG trouble when Lucia confronts him about gambling and drinking away his half of the ranch.

So, Miguel's can't get any more money because Mari owns his lands. And Tav can't get any money because Mari is demanding his lands as her divorce settlement. And Tav can't get the money from Doris since he can't marry her in exchange, because of his complicated divorce proceedings. Where is the money for poor Miguelito's operation going to come from? Just how much has Ed saved up in that piggy bank?...

Judy B, I was thinking that they left some scenes with Karim on the cutting room floor with how much his attitude changed with MA. First he's real mad, then they leave the scene and when they come back, he's calm and pleading again.
Vivi, I can't tell yet if this is part of Karim's plan for revenge or if he's changed his attitude. This show is too unpredictable, and not in a good way.
And I don't envy that conversation that Miguel is going to have with Lucia. I doubt it will be a conversation, more like a yelling at.

Cathyx thanks so much for your recap. My TV was acting bad and only recorded 60 min of an empty screen, hiss.

I must make this statement, excuse the poor grammar, concerning MC's current list of beaus: Ain't none of them no good. Ok the gov isn't a bad guy but men who don't pursue women in their own age-group are often creepy to me. Angel/Teo I can't figure out (he's sometimes good and sometimes creepy as well) and Karim is crazy. And Oblivio is just terrible. He is so stupid and in denial he is almost a villain though villains have smarts.

Eli I hope your computer recovers quickly.

Vivi, the previews show Tav telling Lucia that MA and MC are one in the same. Will Lucia bite the bullet and crawl on her hands and knees to MA for the money, knowing that is what MA wants?! Will she blame herself for not being able to help her child because of her actions or will this just be another thing she blames on MC? Hopefully some good stuff ahead!

Thank you Cathyx for filling in, you're a lifesaver, or is that a novela saver?
Eli---I hope that you get your computer fixed soon, will miss you
in the meantime.
It's so sad that the world has bad people that for no reason, want to hurt others by destroying their things. WHY??? I have a good antivirus but even the best antivirus can't stop people that REALLY want to hurt you--there is always a way.

Cathyx---Even with a [fast] rescue, you still had some good lines.---example, therefore he can not marry ShutUpDoris, and the coward want's the governor to tell Doris. That was a great one Cathy but I don't know why they can't get married. Afterall, Tav and MC were married in a small town so it dosen't count. LOL Thank you Doris,
that's one of the best ones I have ever heard.

Cathyx---I also liked your ending--
We end up with that crazy staring look by Lucia, MA with that gotcha look. I might add that MC's/ MA's gotcha look is the best I have ever seen.

Looks like karma has caught up with the Narvaez's in a BIG way. They are out of money. Why not borrow from their wealthy friend Simona? Or maybe EX-Emir Karim, he still has pleanty.

I loved Maricruz showing Lucifer the IOU's, but I was holding my breath thinking that in a sudden rage, Lucifer might tear them up. Mari should have photocopies of those IOU's in her office and the originals, signed by Miguel, in a bank safety deposit box.

Anonymous 8:22 at 11:04AM---The baby in the hands of a strange mother. I disagree Mari is a good mother, as good as "any working mother." When she is home, she always bonds with her child. I don't believe that in anyway Mari is a stranger to her baby.
the gringo

I didn't understand that part where Oblivio was argueing with JA. Why or what business is it of his who JA or Ester Marry?
the gringo

Gringo, you make a good point about borrowing from Simona. I'm sure she would lend it to them.
I don't get why Octavio is interfering with Ester either. She didn't want him to talk to JA, but in the end, she got what she wanted with him threatening him. In fact, I don't get the purpose of the whole plot with them anyway getting together anyway.

Thanks for the recap Cathyx.

Carvivlie, I am in love with the idea of Karim and Doris as a couple! They absolutely deserve each other. Perhaps they can go see the same psychiatrist.
Truly, that would solve so many problems if they just hooked up.

Gringo- Apparently this tn takes place in 1850, and therefore it's required that if a woman does not have a father, brother or grandfather on hand to "protect her virtue", any man in a 30 mile radius must do so. So Teo takes on that role for Aracely, and Tav has taken on that role for Ester. JA got her pregnant, so JA HAS to marry her to protect her honor, and it's Tav's job (as Ester's cousin-in-law, once removed) to make sure he does so.

Vivi, we can tell it takes place in 1850 by the lack of skin shown too.

Thanks much, CathyX - loved the title!

I took Octavio's assets being "embargoed" to mean they were blocked, or frozen, pending the outcome of a trial. So not available as collateral, obv.

Oct being the moral police with JA - I think this was an attempt at irony in the script. Octavio is playing holier than thou and demanding of JA all the things that he personally totally failed at. Like - who is he to talk? And also an opportunity for JA to throw what Octavio did to Maricruz in his face, but that just rolled off Octavio's back. He totally blew it off. Not even a half second or remorse? Denial.

They briefly showed the town of Gomez Farias. I've actually been there. :)

Audrey

Great recap cathyx!! You so echo what many of us were thinking last night, well most nights.

Watching last night for me was like:
Blah, blah, blah, ditto, ditto, heard it before, shutupDoris, heard it before, blah, blah, WTH?, and wonder how the ball game is going?

Mari once said she wants them all to come crawling to her, so she's just about there. Probably didn't count on a poor child getting hurt, but I'm sure she's still enjoying pushing in those screws. I just hope that when push comes to shove, if she is the one holding the checkbook, she comes thru for the little one. I would say she would have to being the heroine and all.

I thought that Simona had suspected Lucia was up to no good back in the day. She spilled on the rich daddy, why not that. What's it going to take for OCTavio to believe his sister-in-law is hardly the salt of the earth material? I'm getting tired of him insisting that everyone else must be pulling his leg but Miguel and Lucia. Nothing a good slap up the side of the hear wouldn't cure. I volunteer.

I demand a Solita/Tobias/Moctavio sighting!!!(Although if she's still wearing pig tails, I'll lose it).

daisynjay

Paul---I agree. A Karim and Doris wedding.

Audrey---Tell us about the little town of Gomez Farias. How was it?
Were the people friendly? Please fill us in.
the gringo

Thanks Paul! I think they could have quite a passionate and explosive relationship. I can just hear her saying over and over "pero soy hija de gobernador of isla dorada" and he "pero soy un Emir" every time they argue...which is every conversation!

Gomez Farias is a very small town in the highlands of Tamaulipus. You reach it after you cross the river and drive up the cliffs. The river scenes in the opening sequence I also recognize. I've crossed the exact bridge. The river is gorgeous - spring fed, clear, limestone bottom, and lined with cypress.

Gomez Farias is at the edge of a huge birding preserve in the northernmost cloud forest in North America, so ecotourism is part of their economy - or at least was until border violence shut the tourism down. The "Casa de Piedra" has a Facebook page, and that's a lovely little inn that some friends stayed in and then went out with birding guides. We had a couple of meals there, and they were fabulous. I'd love to be able to go back.

Audrey

Oh - rural folks in Mexico are always friendly! I always enjoyed being out in the hinterlands. My husband and I went on several birding trips in Mexico (with groups) from 2000-2002 when it was very safe to travel.

There are still parts that are fine to travel, but I would have to fly there from here. No more driving across the border!!!

I don't think Simona will give them money. She can talk a lot about help, but not act. Until she gets what she wants, of course.
Octavio can't add 2+2. Dios mio. He is the most stupid galan ever. I only hope someday he will get those 4.
Poor Miguelito. What else I can say. Parents killers, no money, no future.
Alegria

Enjoyed the recap, Cathyx. While we're waiting for Octavio to gain some cognition skills (and waiting...and waiting), maybe we should set up a TN beyotch match.

We could pit Doris (the privileged gov's daughter) against Estercita from La Tempestad (the privileged town boss' daughter). They could stand and scream at each other and pitch their best hissy fit.

I know Carola sold her share of the casino, but I guess she just took her money and ran. No word on how she's doing, where she went, etc. Raiza never says "Carola's really having a great time in France" or anything like that. Possibly she's in the same time warp as Solita, the Land of the Unnecessary Sisters.

"the Land of the Unnecessary Sisters"

LOL La Paloma!

Audrey---Thanks for the inspiration
I don't know why I never thought of it before [maybe some of my brain cells went dormant like Octavio's have] but after reading your comments, I went to You Tube and watched several videos of Gomez Farias in Tamaulipas and some of the surrounding towns in the area. Not very modern but VERY
peaceful and serene. Nice little towns. It's too bad that there is so much bad/evil in the world that one would be afraid to travel to nices places like thoes today. I would love to sit in the town square in one of those little towns with a couple of tacos and refried beans just watching the people, the birds and listening to some local music. That would be so nice. I don't need super fancy resorts in expensive cities to make me happy, a peaceful little pueblo would do just fine.
the gringo

La Paloma-The Land of Unnecessary Sisters! Genius.
I actually miss Carola. She was greedy and dishonest but so much fun on the screen. The actress who played her had great reaction faces. I hope she turns up again.

Great job cathyx. Very funny and very well done.

I was so frustrated by Octavio's sudden concern for Ester but it's consistent with a lot of other unlikely and inexplicably motivated reactions and occurrences that have littered this TN, beginning Octavio's marriage to Maricruz in the first place.

gringo,

"...Mari is a good mother, as good as "any working mother." When she is home, she always bonds with her child. I don't believe that in anyway Mari is a stranger to her baby."

Really? Have we seen enough of Maricruz interacting with Lupita to draw that conclusion? I figure that I may get at least one or two more photo captions out of her apparent unfamiliarity and at times almost indifference toward her own child and lack of enthusiasm for the task motherhood.

Carlos

Is Mari a good mother? We can't tell because they really don't show her home life very much. They are concentrating on her work life, since that's where the power for revenge comes in. Her many scenes with baby Lupita could be on the cutting room floor with all the other parts of this show that would help it to make sense.

cathyx,

I'm guessing that she isn't fully engaged and devoted to being a mother. I'm also guessing that her own mother either didn't set a very good example or wasn't around long enough to be good example. For whatever reason, Ramiro took care of her and Solita more like one would a couple of pets rather than children.

Carlos

It seems Mari herself doesn't think she's a great mother since the last two times they've shown her with Lupita she admonishes herself for not spending enough time with the baby and promises she will do so in the near future.

I'll bet Gringo feels like I did when we were watching Amor Bravio when I was constantly defending Daniel.

I think Mari is the best mother she knows how to be.

I almost, ALMOST, feel sorry for Lucia worried about the baby. No mother should have to anguish over a sick child. And I do have the up most sympathy for any one who has faced or is facing that.

BUT, Lucia, you did ask for it. And I am afraid a lot more is coming your way. Such as a husband you can not depend on or thrust. Been there done that a long time ago.

OOOPS that was a typo.

emeraldrose, or was it a freudian slip?

emeraldrose,

heh heh!

Carlos

Question: How did Simona know all about Daddy Warbucks?

Cathyx and Carlos, Let;s say ....uh........an unfortunate marriage in many respects.
