La Tempestad, Capitulo 7. August 6th 2013. Hysterics, Sleeping Doctor, Red Pants, and A Wounded Captain!
Labels: tempestad
Thanks so much for this fabulous recap!
Ay yi yi, like Estercita need a friend like Mayuyaya. She is a frenenemy indeed
Marina can close a wound, who knew??? I had a hard time watching the removing of that harpoon. Ewwww. I had to laugh though when Marina took a slug from that rum bottle, lol.
Hernan has got some avocadoes, doesn't he? He is stalking Marina even out at sea! I am glad Marina stayed with Dam Fab.
Dam Fab and Marina are a lot alike. People of their word, and the looks they keep giving each other! They are both so stubborn.
I like Dam Fab's madrina, she is better than Opalina from AV, I must say. She has visions, and Opalina only had snails : )
That house was horrid, the one that Soraya took Mercedes to. I really hope there is some way that Mercedes finds Magdalena.
TN4ever
Ok, here comes my critic, I hope you don't kill me. I enjoyed the episode, but the beanie moments are coming
The whole scene with Marina sewing the wound was so unbelievable, but what I found more amazing was the fact that they only showed the EXIT wound when she did that awesome job, but we know from the previous scene that Dam had a nasty ENTRY wound, too (Duh!) So, what happened with that? Also, from the amount of blood he lost in the water (they really exaggerated with the ketchup), that should have been their main concern, right?
How did Hernan "find out" about the attack on La Tempestad when Bagro said that they hadn't yet been able to get in touch with the outside world? And why isn't anyone questioning this?
Also, would a man's man like Bagre care about his Captain falling for the pretty girl? I swear to God, sometimes they give this men such unbelievable dialogs...
And how about that stupid talk Marina had with the crew on deck, when she wanted to get some stuff to help cure Dam? Wouldn't it have been easier to make them understand why she needed them if she simply said they were for the Captain? Instead she kept repeating the same line, which was idiotic.
Ah well, I had a few other beanie moments while watching, but I can't remember them right now...
Returning to yesterdays discussion about seasickness remedies, when I was working on a cruise ship some gusest used a kind of flexible wristbands which stimulated acupressure points, for some it worked for some don't.
I didn't had one so used an advice given by some fellow crew members and strange as it seems it actually worked really well, and it was - eat green apples -.
If you eat a few slices of fresh green apples you don't get sick or even queasy and if you are already sick - because you didn't know this- it settles your stomack. :)
Loved your "(only in your dreams, Mayuya and maybe not even there)". So true. Interesting how they toss around the idea of scoring Damian like he's a Frisbee or something.
Since my hand-knit beanie fits tightly, I had no trouble accepting all the incongruencies of this. Frankly, I'm just here for the smoldering looks between Damian and Marina.(or smoldering kisses or criterion behavior, natch)
I could do without Mercedes' ranting and Eusebia's incantatory screeches. Just bring the camera and audio back to SMOLDER and I'll be fine.
Hernán's red skinny pants were most unfortunate. They are alas unfortunate on anyone who wears them, man, woman or child. Proof positve, if we needed it, that he will NEVER GET Marina. Ever.
When I saw the red pants I thought Peter Frampton!! Yes, because once when I saw PF live he wore bright red pants and it scarred my eyes for life. Gosh that was funny to see Hernan in peg leg red pants. Someone in wardrobe must hate that guy. TN4ever, ITA about Wollowitz but I was scarred long before the BB Theory, sorry.
Adriana Noel, yes, yes, and YES! I was incensed (just ask Mr. Sharkbait) that Marina was not tending properly to the wound. Um, yes, what about his back? At least she got his lovely frontside all stitched up even if he was still bleeding out the back, lol! And really, doesn't that boat have a proper first aid kit like every other boat on the planet? And why didn't they turn around for port immediately after Dam Fab got such a serious wound? That was the biggest beanie moment for me.
Adriana Noel, that's why we've opened The Patio of Lowered Expectations, because, as you observed, the beanie moments and inane dialogue are now rushing in. In fact there is a margarita waiting for you on the patio. Or a lemonade if you prefer.
Yep, Mauricio is a whiz with the names. Now we know that we have a catfish, a bear, and a lizard on the crew. These nicknames are quite funny. I used to work in a kitchen with a bunch of guys from Mexico and they also had the craziest nicknames for each other. God only knows what they called me behind my back.
Wish I had seen Fully's red pants. Gah. Mejia has a good sense of humor. Or the absurd.
Dr. Suspenders sounds like a winner. Not. Ack
I too liked the red pants on IS... so Italian/Euro looking; he's got the slim build for it.
I must say, even though it is standard girl meets boy, boy and girl hate each other at first sight, they hate the fact they are attracted to each other and both have jealous somebodies determined to keep them from consumating their attraction, it's pretty good. And of course we have to have some evil embroglio and some mystery relationships.
The recaps have been stupendous and congrats to our first time out of the gate, Mauricio. And Gloria, I think this is the first time I've read your work. What a team to bring this alive on the page.
Mads--"...Opalina only had snails." Are you missing AV? As I recall, Opie could also read cards and have "feelings." Ni modo, I like Dam Fab's madrina, always have, since Alborada.
Yes! The red pants! (Just like Roy el Rollero's in Amores verdaderos!)
Villains wear silly pants and heroes get to wear tight sexy jeans. It's the rule.
BTW, did anyone else notice the baggy-bottomed yellowish pants Hernán Haskell wore the other day?
It ain't easy being mean.
Thanks for the awesome detailed recap!! I am surprised you could understand anything Dam said this episode...between his mumble and the loud creaking sound from the ship I couldnt make out a word. It's funny cause I understood him perfectly in Sortilegio....but this Tn has been a challenge.
Why does estercita always look like she hasnt sleep in days??
I do not know how i missed those red pants.
Of course, I howled at "He asks him if she is a nurse. She says that she almost is like one". Well, I certainly feel better! Almost as good as "...if she is a doctor". Yep, "almost" is good enough for me! Were you cringing, Carlos??
Adriana Noel, I agree with your "beanie moments" beginning with why Dam wasn't brought immediately to the hospital, through the crazy sewing patch up job. Like Judy, I kept concentrating on what was important. William Levy's smile. Amazing! Helps me forget some of these absurd events.
Cool and detached are one thing but Mayuya trying on the lipstick as her "friend" lay dying was startling. Icy and heartless.
Madelaine, yes, Hernan did have some "avocadoes"! Obsessed seems too weak of a word. Interesting that he and "Ful-of-himself" are already turning on each other.
Diana
"Why does estercita always look like she hasnt sleep in days??"
She went from a two-day drunk to an overdose of -- what? Flintstones chewables? That takes it out of a person.
:)
Judy, I was intrigued though initially startled by Eusebia's little ritual. Didn't Modesta (Alborada) do a similar yet more reserved incantation? Who knew that you can Skype with a pan of water?
Though I would have suggested leaving the wound open (front and back), I smiled at Marina's taking charge of wound care.
Clearly the Dr. is a very cautious man as I noticed that he uses both a belt and suspenders.
My very favorite scene was of Mayuya taking advantage of the opportunity to sample Estercita's lipstick.
Carlos
USE that anger, woman!
Hernan found out about what happened cause he ordered the boat to be blown up and no evidence in the water to be left. When he found out that Marina was on the Tempestad from Olinto, at the factory, Hernan tried to stop the plan but couldn't, no reception on their end. So, when the pirate attack was over, and I am assuming that they were closer to shore, that bad cop, Val, told Hernan the result of the pirate attack, that the boat seemed to be okay, but didn't know if Dam Fab had made it after that spear gun attack, so Hernan went out to the Tempestad to check for himself that Marina was okay, at least that is my take on why Hernan went out there, plus he stalks Marina every chance he gets : )
I'm not sure if I miss AV. [Well, ok, maybe a little.] But I know I've been missing you. So glad you have realized the dramatic potential here and hope we will see you back often.
There are, of course, journalistic and entrepreneurial opportunities up the wazoo.
Ladies:
I think you'll find the Drool Bibs are generously sized. Sylvia, you say there is one at each place setting on the Patio? Excellent.
I think I get what you meant about why Hernan went out there and "found out" what happened to the Tempestad, sorry about that. Maybe Hernan will use the excuse "rumor has it", like some other boat was out there, yadda, yadda, He said he heard from someone (Olinto) that Marina was on the boat. That's what he told the Tempestad crew anyways. He gave Marina the excuse he found out at the plant cause he wanted to take her to dinner and found she had gone on the Tempestad. He claims the guys are dangerous, I'd say Hernan is ten times worse! I think that was really the excuse those guys are dangerous! Ha!
I DO miss AV. This one though, is just as fun. I just like the fact we have another seer, lol. Yeah, Opalina had the "feelings" thing too and this Madrina has the same, she is forever clutching her chest. But I like the fact she can "see" images and not just in dreams, lol.
Carlos:
I laughed so hard at your Skype comment ; )
NovelaMaven- Yes. I did notice Delfina showing some of her anger by stabbing at her tamale. Hopefully, one say she’ll stab Full-of-himself with that fork.
Adriana- My expectations for this Mejia tn were so low, that I am not bothered in the least by stupid stuff like Marina not closing up the entry wound, just the exit wound, etc. This is Mejia, for gosh sake! This is practically a documentary for him, as close as he is sticking to reality.
The red pants have been very hip for young guys for a few years now. Along with the skinny leg, it's an import from Europe. I don't like the look personally, but it's fashionable.
I just remembered my other big beanie complaint. What in the heck happened to the bomb? We were denied an underwater explosion, harrumph!
Having you here would be wonderful. Whether to fawn over William with us, or to snark at the nonsense, please join us!
Diana
I missed your comment Vivi. Documentary, lol! OK, I'll just sit back and enjoy the ride. I would also like to see Delfina get a forkful of Fulgencio.
Aaaand--it's that standard TN disease, the high burning fever that will cause death if not overcome very soon. Are Wm. Levy's tats real or only temporary for this TN? He looks like a real salty sailor. I may have to watch more.
It was I who built the Patio.
[cough cough]
Vivi then said something that might explain this: apparently this type of pants are very fashionable in Europe - I have no eyes for men fashion, but now that I think of it, that is sooo true! My brother has several pairs, I know a lot of guys who wear them and they're all pretty men-ish. Heck, even my husband has a pair in dark red, that I bought.
Eli, I also think Hernan rocked those pants, too. And that is not something a lot of men can do.
Madelaine, I tried to pay attention to whatever it was that Hernan gave as an explanation as to why he knew about the attack, but I must have missed it.
Sylvia, you're right? How come we didn't get to see the bomb go boom? And yeah, Delfina was about to stab that plate while Furygencio was screaming at her.
And I'd like a tequila, thank you very much, it's my absolute favorite drink and I don't have enough occasions to enjoy it.
So now that I have my tequila bottle, my beanies and a good doze of lowered expectations, I guess I'm good to continue with this tn. Do you think that maybe we get to see a nice scar on Dam's chest, or they forget about this in 10 episodes?
"Hi, this is Eli, I'd like to put in an order for 50 bibs, all in pink with glitter...."

Hmm... the day Bianca wore her dress was pretty legendary, I'm glad that Marina is only wearing it in the entrada - as far as we know. I'll be on the look out, though... see who pull it off better.
Since both MS and XN were Miss something, though, there is really no competition.
I'm humbly aware that AdP had a big noisy Patio with very active patrons, but I stayed out of the way with Refugio.
For historical purposes, where did the Patio move to after Abismal? Anyway, I certainly enjoyed my time on the AV Patio of Lowered Expectations.
I love the Storm Cellar for Tempestad. We could carry root vegetables, seeds, herbs, candles and bottled water, ill-fitting wigs and red pants for those inclined.
You guys are cracking me up today! Carlos loved your skype comment and the comment about the doctor's suspenders. I agree about the red pants. To me it screams "girly" so maybe that's why he acted like one when he was screaming on the CB. Anita, with this crazy and funny group, you definately need to stay. I can pretty much guarantee lots of "snark".
Rest assured. The Storm Cellar will do what it can to accommodate you and your drooling needs.
Anita:
It seems to me that the Patio started in those Abysmal Passion Pits. (We needed it to come to terms with our loss after the magic of the first week or so vanished and we were left with Fluffy and his team of simian writers.) From there it moved to AV.
At El Tal, it was evident from the start that there were no writers. (Was it Blue Lass who suggested it was a sort of multi-species improv?) If our expectations were any lower, the Patio would have had to move underground (to the Storm Cellar, say).
This is from memory. Documentary evidence to the contrary would, of course, be examined carefully and probably discarded as annoying and pedantic.
I am absolutely loving this TN, especially Cesar Evora’s acting. His scenes with Delfina remind me of Dionisio/Agustina’s horrible marriage in AB. Even William Levy has won me over. The ship crew is still boring and cliché to me, but Dam Fab and Marina’s chemistry is excellent.
Poor poor poor Estercita. I was mortified by Mayuya’s reaction to her suicide attempt. Regardless of her personality, Estercita is a victim of domestic abuse, plain and simple. She needs a friend to talk to, and it’s sad that her only option is Mayuya.
I wonder how long the writers will drag on this Ester/Damian engagement. As bad as their marriage would be, I’d almost rather she married Damian to get away from her father. When Foolgencio mentioned sending Estercita away, I had to wonder…would he be that despicable to sell his own daughter?
Listen to Shallowgal! This one has everything. [Well everything that matters in a telenovela.]
Hey, we've missed you around here. Good to hear from you.
http://www.latinospost.com/articles/25063/20130806/la-tempestad-failure-william-levy-televisa-go-separate-ways.htm
I don't think it's Levy's fault, though. TdA was idiotic, there is only so much that Will and Maite's chemistry can do and with La Tempestad they chose a total newbie as the heroine and they gave him that awful hair that enraged all his fan base. There are several articles about that.
It is also normal for the actor not to want to renew his contract. Levy is getting bigger in the US and a tn requires a lot of hard work, long hours etc...
I think the issue here is that Levy's contract has expired and neither Televisa nor him want to renew it. It's not Levy's fault that TDA and LT failed but it shows he is not the draw Televisa expected him to be. Adriana Noel is right, they thought he would be the next Colunga and he charges as if he is. Since he's not, Televisa is no longer interested in paying him what he asks.
