La Tempestad, September 9, 2013. Capitulo 31.
Labels: tempestad
Thanks so much for this fab recap.
Ay yi yi, Becky say it ain't so! How can she turn down a relationship with the smokin' hot Jose? That kiss he gave her was smokin'! I really hope she changes her mind.
The anvils are really poised over Marina and Dam Delicious. Every time they mention together foreva, I see them hovering.
I think it will be awhile before Mercy catches up to Maggie. I really thought last night that Maggie would stop long enough to listen to what Mercy had to say. But no, she runs off again. You could just feel Mercy's frustration.
Hernan is the idiot. His obsession grows and grows for Marina. He just has to have an ally to "get Marina", he isn't man enough to get her himself. I like how Tia Becky has his number and glad she told Bea exactly how Marina feels about Dam Delicious. Bea actually listened for once.
Yay! The Commandante lives another day to fight the traffickers. I was hoping they weren't going to kill him off. He has got the Fully part, let's hope he soon figures out the Herny part, and ultimately the Ernesto part.
I am not liking the previews, but I am hoping Bea isn't tempting fate. I don't want Dam Delicious to be snookered in by Bea.
Oh, lastly Mayaya. I want her to shut up already! She is the real slut. And in Church of all places. I wish the Padre would tell her to shut it or leave the Church already.
It was so frustrating when Mercedes saw Mag but couldn't convince her to stop and listen.
I like the crew and their loyal support of their Cappy. DamDamaged seems to be on the road to recovery, but sneaking out wasn't a good idea. calm down and recover.
I did get to see that smoking kiss between Becky and Jose. Yay! It's not a surprise that Beck has commitment issues (and maybe alcohol issues). They have been waving that in our face for a while. I wonder if we'll ever find out the reasons for Becky's issues. I was proud of Jose for backing off, but letting Becky know what she is missing, and that he will not be friends with benefits with her.
Aside from her relationship (an alcohol) issues, Tia Becky continues to be one of my faves. Susanlynn, yes, I noticed how she made Hernan be her escort, and then kept body blocking him from Marina. LOL! She did a great job making Bea reconsider her actions too. Jose was also doing his best to make Hernan speak plainly about his intentions towards Marina. Becky and Jose could really be a fantastic couple, if she allowed it.
Although Magda did not let Mercedes speak with her, she was listening. Her asserting to Muñeca that she wants to be called by her name Magdalena, means she’s reclaiming part of her real identity. That’s a good thing.
And, I love the show's theme song (Hoy Tengo Ganas De Ti), but they seem to play it so much that I am starting to get tired hearing it.
Wow! Have we ever seen a more useful and efficient priest? He recognized a mistake, filed an annulment , and SHAZAM, our pretty couple are free to marry ... whenever they want. Heck, why not get the job done at Ester's requiem mass?
I'm going to guess that somewhere along the line Aunt Becky got married and isn't free to make a commitment. If that is the case, fortunately we have a very capable priest available to undo inconvenient marriages.
Carlos
You are so right on about the Padre! The annulment was a surprise that I didn't see coming.
Do you think the Padre also does exorcisms? There are a couple needed with Herny and Fully, jus' sayin' ; )
Color me perplexed as to what in the heck Tia is thinking or in this case not thinking. Madeline, that kiss was amazing!! Like Vivi, think Jose did the right thing by setting the boundaries and ending it then and there. It did look like Becky did seem to be feeling a tinge of regret (as well she should). Ack.
Susanlynn, I thought Mag might stop but the moment was fleeting. Interesting though that she accepted her name, using it but moments later.
Carlos, "He recognized a mistake, filed an annulment, and SHAZAM, our pretty couple are free to marry ... whenever they want. Heck, why not get the job done at Ester's requiem mass?" - could not have said it any better myself.
Thanks again Gloria.
Diana
I had the same take as everyone else about Becky being a commitment phobe but what impressed me also was Mwrcedes sprinting ability. That lady can run!! ;-)
A few things that struck me:
--The priest took it upon himself to annul the PesterDam nuptials? Wow. How convenient for DamFab. And how fortunate that the marriage wasn't consummated.
--There is a moment in the church when the beautiful sorrowing head of DamFab is juxtaposed with the beautiful sorrowing head of Jesus. How did I not see this before? [That would explain the hair.]
A little later, as DamFab trudges painfully along the escarpment, it is easy to imagine he is bearing a cross.
--Dam's father used to say that crying doesn't make you less of a man, it makes you more human.
--There is a cool riff on metaphor when the crew gathers at Dam's bedside at Eusebia's place.
Susanlynn and Vivi:
Yes, it was great the way Rebeca and José double-teamed Hernán. And Rebeca's story has been so carefully set up that I can't believe it won't be developed (her commitment phobia, her drinking). Well, yes, I can believe, I just prefer not to.
Mads:
I was also relieved to see Robles alive and kicking. Thank goodness for inept villains.
Tabletjefa:
I thought the same thing about Mercedes -- That dame can run!
Looking fowward to finding time this afternoon to see that smokin' hot kiss you talked about. Tia Rebecca needs a 12-step group both for drinking and commitment issues. Two for the price of one, lady!
Thanks Ms. Gloria...enjoyed the recap immensely.
The last Mejía masterpiece we watched together, Triunfo del Amor, had a passion play within it.
This time, is the novela itself the passion play?
Hmmm...
I wonder who Magdalena thinks Mercedes is. She surely heard Mercedes say she is her mother. And had enough of a "call of the blood" to want to be called by her name now. Maybe Magdalena thinks Mercedes is running some scam to get her back into hooking?
Then there was that Lazaro thing, and don't forget how he was suddenly surrounded by all those kids...
There was however, that little incident with Estercita and those steamy kisses with Marina...
Carlos
Mads - I think Bea will try to guilt Dam out.
Diana - you and I were both perplexed regarding Tia Becky's reaction to that kiss. Doesn't she know that doesn't happen everyday (unless you are married to Jose)?
Vivi - I hope Tia Becky's past relationship wasn't Ernesto (the horror) but it makes sense. I loved how she was willing to keep blocking Hernan (good observation Susanlynn). Now if we can only get her to work through her issues.
Carlos - yes the Padre with the annulment in hand already was a happy curve I didn't see coming.
TJ - you are too funny with noting Mercedes sprinting ability.
NM & Carlos - you both are cracking me up will Dam as the Christ figure.
Actually he almost crushes her with his girth. I actually was concerned for Mayuya.
The anvil that has started to fall is Damian's irrational guilt that he did not save Estercita. This started the moment the boat exploded. He called on God to help him find her. And now the long self-lacerating journey begins which will cause a rift in his relationship with Marina.
There is also mother Eusebia:
"Eusebia" is a Greek word (eu: well + seb-:awe, worship) often translated as "piety" or "godliness" and embodies the desire to serve God.
Speaking of names, in one of the scenes cut from the US version, Hernán explains to Marina that he was named after Hernán Cortés, el conquistador! Were his parents setting him up to be despised?
Novelamaven and Carlos..Wow..a passion play. I missed that whole analogy. Hoowever, I must say that Will's acting has really improved since I first saw him in another bad wig in Pasion, and he has become an excellent crier...maybe the best male crier I've ever seen.
As for the fate of our addicted characters Mag and Becky, I have read that people who are addicted have to hit bottom in order to have a chance of recovery. Our soon-to-ex-son-in-law (please God) refuses to go for counseling. He called our daughter 20 times last night and has now moved into an apartment right across the street from her to try to get custody every other week instead of every other weekend. I see no happy ending for him, but I am hoping for ones for Mag and Becky. Mag has suffered so much. s he deserves some happiness. By the way, what has she been calling herself ? Did we ever learn her name ?
Why is annulment necessary since they think Estercita is dead? Guess they have been reading the script.
I have thought the last couple of episodes that DamFab sounds hoarse.
Why wouldn't Becky just tell Jose that they need to take it slow? She obviously likes his company but she just shut down the whole thing.
Becky basically told Jose that she NEVER wants a commitment, but would be fine with being friends with benefits. This is not at all what Jose wants, so he was right to put an end to things right there. Why put himself through that, when he knows heartache will be the result?
I've seen enough of CI (well too much, really) to know who Eusebio was.
You think maybe he was Madre Eusebia's evil twin? Or maybe a fallen angel like Lucifer? [Or maybe the CI writers are just a little more capricious -- or ironic -- when it comes to naming characters. Lucía? Give me a break!]
So..I guess the previews indicate that Bea may be thinking twice about joining Team H. , and I guess we all know who el diablo is in this show....a snake in a scarf.
Susanlynn, so sorry about the recent developments. Your poor daughter! Hugs...
Diana
I was very happy that Bea pulled back from being Hernan's accomplice and lying to Marina about feeling worse, in order to manipulate her. Even though the previews show her telling Dam that she is dying (which she now knows she is), and asking him to promise to leave Marina alone, I think she's doing this on her own, and not being dishonest. So although I'm annoyed she's going to do that, I'm not as upset as I was when it looked like she was going to be in cahoots with Hernan to lie to, and manipulate, her daughter.
Bea won't listen to reason and I am glad that Becky told her like it is. I too am glad that Becky and Jose blocked Herny from Marina, lol. Becky and Jose see the love that Marina and Dam Delicious have, too bad Bea is being snookered by Herny.
I can't stand the MIO stuff as far as Herny goes. He thinks you can just "own" anyone, he may think he can "own" Marina but never her heart. She has already told him umpteen million times she considers him a friend. I guess Marina was talking to the hand, cause the brain sure is asleep.
Susanlynn:
Sending you many hugs, and I hope the situation resolves itself well for your daughter. It's wonderful that you give your daughter your full love and support : )
I am a little confused about the instant annulment padre gave. Did he even ask DamRelieved if the marriage was consummated ? Just ..bibitty, bobitty, boo...you're free to marry your onetruelove. Could a priest really do that so quickly ? in other tns I've watched, it always seemed like getting an annulment was a long , difficult process
This is the quickest annulment I have ever seen too ; ) The Padre knew Dam Delicious only married Pester to save her "reputation" and I think he either knew or assumed there would be no "marital relations" so he filed for the annulment. I wasn't clear if he did it before or after the "accident" I think it may have been after.
Imagine Estercita/Hada returning to her normal (remember what that was like?) state and discovering that Padre Tomás has taken the initiative to unhitch them.
Carlos
Thank you very much for this recap. You really got all the nuances of the capitulo. So great.
Susanlynn: I am sending kindest thoughts to you and your daughter and wishing you all happiness and peace.
Carlos: Well, I NEVER! I have never heard of a priest deciding that his parishioners were not really sincere in their church wedding and annulling the marriage on his own initiative. In the Church, marriage is a sacrament, for heavens sake. In order for Father Tomas to have that much authority I have to believe that he must secretly be a bishop or a Cardinal, slumming it/doing penance in RRR-Lay-Dee. Joking, but ARGHHH. This one requires an industrial strength beanie.
Vivi: You asked a few capitulos ago if we had yet jumped the shark in this TN? Are we headed irretrievably downhill from here? I don't know, but that scene in the church was so imbecilic that I am losing my willingness to suspend disbelief, a requirement for telenovela watching.
As to the possibly allegorical references to Damian and Jesus, hmmm. Interesting theory. Vivi, I don't know where you and Karen saw the Nordic Jesus, but Jesus' depiction seems to allow for a lot of cultural interpretation. Stretching it to Damian? Well, other than his sexual escapades he is a bit of a saint. Still thinking on this...
EJ
Suspended disbelief...ah yes..that's the technical term for wearing your beanie, n'est-ce pas ?????
THis device also happens to come in handy in real life as well.
I do like that this novela has some surprises. For example, I was completely surprised that Hadaester landed in such a bad situation.
EJ - Vivi will have to tell you which church we visited.
Susanlynn - sending good vibes to you and your family. Hoping you will soon have an ex-son-in law.
I thought I heard Padre T say he had started or done the annulment but I couldn't believe it! Must be a telenovela first.
I'm glad El Comandante is OK. I really do want him to crack this horrible trafficking ring. I'm even starting to think of him as El Comandante instead of old what's-his-name.
I don't quite see how Lazarus plans to save those girls. I've always felt he is rather inept.
Susanlynn, amiga, your daughter is very lucky to have such a strong family unit on her side. I will keep thinking strong, positive thoughts that the soon-to-be-Ex becomes a reality very soon. I think he doesn't stand a chance against the Susanlynn force. Moved across the street? What an annoying rhymes-with-pick-but-has-an-R-in-it.
