PEAM #143- One is Having a Baby, One Doesn't Want a Baby and One is Having a Baby and Doesn't Believe It. Oh, and a Disciple Has Been Elevated!

Happy Thursday, the weekend is almost here!!

The past-

Jesus snatches up DeMonica (Vero) and asks her where is Alma??? DeMonica denies knowing anything.  Officer Delia calls Jesus and tells him that Alma s on her way to the hospital and she is alive.
DeMonica starts arguing with Rogue for giving Jesus the idea that she had something to do with Alma’s disappearance.  Rogue says that her plan is stupid but DeMonica lets him know that if she sinks he goes down with her.
 The present

Xochy and Ferny melancholically discuss Discua and her fate.  Ferny thinks of Discua as a good friend.  Ferny asks Xochy if she would like to have a baby and she yells, No! She is not ready, they need to know each other more she is dedicated to her career and she screeches like a fool. (Ooops, I digress) and she didn’t have a great maternal experience with her mom.  The doorbell rings and Ferny makes a joke about it being either Discua or an earring and Xochy doesn’t find it funny.  It’s Rogue and he is very disheveled and depressed.  What has he done with his life?? He has earned lots of money but he has no one to share it with. He just finished two gallons of ice cream. Rogue is whining how he wants to be, as far away from DeMonica as possible, he wants to kill her, and she is extorting him.  He wants to be near Paty.  He wants Paty to forgive him. He wants to spend the rest of his life with her.  He wants to have children with her. Que the heck!!  He knows that Paty is going out with Elias and he and Elias exchanged blows.  Paty doesn’t know how he feels. He has realized that because of Xochy and Ferny, what they have should have been his.  Rogue asks his brother for forgiveness and confesses that he put the false newspaper story out about Discua being a fraud and that he had Discua arrested.  He thought that Discua was brainwashing Ferny and he didn’t want Ferny to think for himself.  He wanted to continue to manipulate his brother. Ferny owes his change in attitude to Discua. Ferny thinks that he was going to commit suicide because he couldn’t have Discua and what if Jesus hadn’t saved him.  Rogue begs for forgiveness.  Never mind asking us to forgive you, go to Discua for forgiveness, she is dying of cancer.  Rogue realizes that he has ruined her life and wants her forgiveness.  He feels guilty.

Ricardo is meditating at the Light Temple and Discua tells him that she is leaving and she wants Ricardo to take her place and be “The Teacher”.  Discua is discussing the transition with Ricardo when Marisela walks in.  Discua feels a strong connection between Marisela and Ricardo.  Marisela wants to join the light and be with Ricardo.  Ricardo is explaining to Marisela about the ego and how it’s the problem of the world and Rogue appears looking for Discua.  Discua is meditating and Rogue enters to ask for forgiveness.  Discua is going to Bangladesh to be cured.  She can forgive Rogue but all of the bad things that he has done deserve a punishment.  Ferny told her about his illegal activities when he was baptized.  What should he do?? Confess!!!

At the hospital, Alma and the baby are okay.  Since Alma fainted and her pressure is low, she is going to undergo some tests.  Elias calls Paty.  Jesus brings Alma a lovely bouquet of flowers.  She is sad that she didn’t get to have the wedding.  She tells Jesus what happened with DeMonica.  The new family is fine.  Paty updates Sebastian on her relationship with Elias, Rogue and Alma. Elias brings Val and Rai.  Elias needs to speak to Paty about something so important that it couldn’t wait.  He has an enormous professional opportunity to work in New York with one of the best publishing companies in the world.  He invites Paty to come to NYC wit him.  Paty is a little dumbfounded.  Paty can’t believe her ears.  Hmm- Paty, living in NYC.  Alma has a high-risk pregnancy.  She is on bed rest for at least a month.  She will be discharged in a little while and will go home by ambulance.  Elias hasn’t told Val yet, but this is a great professional chance of a lifetime for him.  Elias is a little doubtful but he thinks that Paty will keep him company.  Val, Paty, Sebastian and Chatita visit Alma.  Jesus calls Susana and Jessica (half of the gossip league) that Alma and the baby are okay.  The whole league will pray for them.  Elias is going to tell Val about his move to NYC.  Elias tells Val about his new job in NYC.  Jesus is going to call Pancho Lopez and tell him about Alma’s condition.  Who will be in charge?? Rogue?? It will be a disaster. Pancho is not available.  Val can come to visit him and see the Statue of Liberty.  Ahh!! Pancho is in Europe and Alma is having a panic attack.

DeMonica confesses to her lawyer that she kidnapped Alma.  She really didn’t want to kidnap her; she just wanted to keep her from her wedding!!!  Seriously!  The lawyer tells DeMonica that kidnapping is a serious crime.  DeMonica tells her lawyer to keep her out of jail and then seems to be suffering morning sickness or is it the apple that she is eating?  The lawyer calls the hospital and Alma is okay.   Vero has a craving for crepes with caramel.  DeMonica still has morning sickness.  Ewww!!!  The lawyer realizes that DeMonica is pregnant and starts asking her questions about her vomiting and eating habits.  DeMonica needs an EPT (pregnancy test)-ASAP.  DeMonica denies being pregnant. (What sperm would want to attach itself to her mean eggs?)  It’s confirmed, she is pregnant.  Lord, help us!!!!  No puede ser!! (We don’t hear a laughing baby this time)  DeMonica wants to know if you can trust these tests!! Yep!!!  It’s Rogue’s baby!!

The Looney Twins- Marta and Marcia are discussing playing a game and becoming each other. Oh boy!  One sister is as crazy as the other.

Chatita tells Sebastian about the triangle with her lover man- Panfilo- Cricket Face (who floats her boat) and the long legged Susana.  Sebastian is still talking the same foolishness about Jesus and asks why does Chatita call Susana long legged.  Sebastian is still interested in Susana, leaving the path free for Chatita and Panfilo.

Coming attractions:
Marta, La Loca is free to finish what she has started!!!  Alma is fighting against death and needs to save her baby!

As usual I grouped the like items together so it may be out of order of what has happens but it flows better.
Rogue wants forgiveness and I am taught to forgive BUT I am not forgetting anything that he has done.
I am surprised at how fast Ricardo climbed the religious ladder!!

Ricardo is the only one who is not getting botox, teeth veneers, plastic surgery, face whitening/bronzing etc. I don't find his character interesting, but his natural face is refreshing, so I applaud him for that.

Discua and Marta's twin both just came back from India. Casualidad? I think not.

No, seriously, I can't tell the three of them apart.

I also cannot believe that Elias would up and leave his child -- and I hope against hope that Patty does not go back to Rog, no matter what kind of forgiveness he asks for. Patty is like Veronica inside out, when she does something evil she is guileless as opposed to V's toxic narcissism. It was very funny when the lawyer had to explain secuestro to V, who just said Juarever!

Just read an interview about Jorge Aravena and Fer's onset dispute, and that he might be coming back in a later episode. I really like what his work as Elias and hope it's true.

Thank you for the great recap. How in the world is Vero not in jail by the end of this episode! Someone lock this crazy girl up please!!

Thanks so much TJ.

I am also puzzled as to why Chucho didn't immediately call the police as soon as Alma confirmed that Vero was the one who kidnapped her. He has Delia on speed dial. It wouldn't have been that hard.

I also can't believe the writers are going to give Vero a second child. Vero! We've been trying to think of ways for her to lose custody of the one she already has.

I am not pleased that Elias is leaving, although I understand it was real life issues that caused them to change things. Now it looks like they are redeeming Rogue faster than they likely originally intended in order to bring him back into Pati's life.

Carvivie and Vivi- I don't understand why Vero is still a free woman. She is becoming quite the monster. That Cindy is one heck of a lawyer.
I am sorry to see Elias leave and Rogue the snake slink his way back to Paty. -Ewwwww!

Tablet Jefa, thank you for the very fine recap!

Carvivlie, Vivi, and Tablet Jefa, I also do not understand how Veronica has not been arrested. Veronica is so goofy she seemed to be surprised that she had actually kidnapped Alma.

I liked the conversation between Cachita and Sebastian and hope she can get back with Panfilo.

Looks like Paty will not be strong enough to stand on her own and will end up getting snookered back in by the ever repentant Rogelio.

TJ:

Marvelous recap. I like the way you put similar things together in your recap, it does flow better : )

Add me to the list of those that can't believe Moronica is preggers and that she was sooo surprised that she actually kidnapped Alma. What did she think she was doing, slumming and having a meeting with Alma, perchance? Moronica is just like her name, a moron.

I was shocked that Rogue confessed his sins to Ferny with Xochi there and actually went to Discua and asked for forgiveness. I hope he does as she said and confesses his money laundering. I still don't like that he calls Chucho a secretario, that time has long passed!

I too am sad that Elias is leaving for New York, I wonder if Pato will really go with him? Hey, it could happen, but then again, probably not. If Rogue does try to get Pato back, I don't think it will be very easy for him. Pato has changed a lot. I can't wait to see if Pato actually goes.

Surprised too by Rico Suave and being the new Teacher. I wonder if Maricela can hang with that.

I really hope that Alma and the bebe are going to be okay and that she stays on bedrest like the Doc told her.

As far as Sebas and Susana, I wonder if Susana will take him back? They continue with this AARP love story, it's kind of cute though.

Oh, and what happened to Malvino? Remember Rogue's main henchie? The actor is now on La Tempestad in la carcel there, named the Dragon, lol.

I'm not clear on this, but does Alma have amnesia? In the hospital Alma said she didn't remember what happened. Alma didn't mention Veronica's part in her abduction nor did she mention Veronica hitting her. So does his mean that the only person that Alma remembers is the driver? Veronica might get away with this abduction because it would be her word against Rogelio and we know she's got the goods on him.

Great recap Tablet Jefa. Very easy to follow and very logical....which this telenovela is NOT! So all the more reason for praise.

I have long been amused by how "blood pressure" is used in telenovelas. People are always fainting and blacking out, either because their pressure is too low or it has spiked too high. Not very Real Life but then nothing else is either.

And why in the Sam Hill can't Alma just work from home? She's got a computer and a printer I'm sure, plus a telephone. No reason why she has to be on site. Again, why do I bother being logical? The writers seem to want at least two horrible, dreadful, awful, terrifying dilemmas per episode in this comedy.

Thanks for looking up "zancuda". I presume that was the term Chatita used for Susanna's long-leggedness. I should have hauled out my diccionario last night but was feeling very "juarever".

Enjoyed your recap more than the over-the-top episode, that's for sure.

Love your recap! Thanks so much. I had a headache after watching last night, my poor brain couldn't take a lot of what I was seeing.

First off - lousy to be an Elias fan. So I guess what I read online a few weeks back was true, and he won't be gracing our screens. BOOOOOOOO!

Now, I speculated yesterday to justify Pati back to Rog they would have to make him start moving to the "light", but for heavens sake, I didn't expect it all in one episode! Loved how Ferny stayed cool...he's grown so much as a person. Honestly, I get more of a kick out of watching he and Rog than I do any of the other relationships on this show. The actors just give it their all. So, do we get Rog confessing yet? That would seem to pull him off the plot lines too..I'm guessing he finds out about the baby and puts the confessing on hold?

Speaking of the Virus baby...really? What is with all the unexpected pregnancies in these TN's lately? So not funny. Babies shouldn't be treated as a plot device...they want PSA's--how about how to start acting responsibly in sexual relationships. I'm getting a bit sick of this in plots can you tell?

The whole Alma hyper-ventilating about work was so ridiculous. Call HR and report your hospitalization and take a leave of absence. And as Judy pointed out, then work from home during your convalescence. If that staff was trained half way decently, there should be a plan in place to fill in gaps when someone goes out. What is she - a workaholic that can't imagine not showing up every day? Pancho is her boss-- think about it, Pancho. Not exactly someone to get afraid to tell. Guesses who comes back to Avon to take over?

Make this Marta plot go away. So Chucho will be all about Avon and Alma, Elias is leaving town (ARGH!) Virus will be running to the bathroom for the next few weeks. Hello...Val is out there people! This plot better not go there. Daisynjay

Anonymous 9:3700, I agree totally about the "unexpected pregnancies" and have brought it up before the latest time with Alma. One would think that this would be a prime PSA opportunity for protection used to avoid pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Even with this being a "comedy" I don't think that that topic would be out of place considering the other "unfunny" things that we have had to suffer through.

Jarifa

I hope they don't use Vero' pregnancy as reason for not locking her up, i.e. she was hormonal etc.

Majorly bummed Elias is being written off the show. His and Pato’s storyline is the best one going on at the moment. At least they are in the beginning of the relationship. It would be very strange if they had been dating for a while and declared eternal love and then he left and we never saw him again (unless they killed him off, which wouldn’t be too outlandish for this TN). Also, Pato isn’t completely over Rog and now that it looks like they’re trying to make Rog good enough for Pato, that could work. But they’ve got plenty of time for that—not necessary to have it done in one ep. I would have liked to see more soul searching before he started making amends.

My fear? Vero takes it on the lam and takes Vale with her.

This feels like ultimas semanas type of stuff. How did Vero think she wouldn’t get busted for this?

Seriously, how could Vero not know she was pregnant? Especially having been pregnant before, and why so surprised. At the beginning of their relationship she and Rog were doing it like rabbits. And let's have Vero have another baby, because she's doing so well raising Vale at the moment.

That scene between Elias and Jesus was awkward to watch.

Believe Pato will tell Elias that she's going to stay to help Alma.

OK. I’ve had plenty of time to brood about it and I’m REALLY REALLY peeved that Elias is leaving.

Just wanted to add my comments before reading the recap/comments.

Nanette

It really does seem like the producer could have worked things out with the actor, whatever the issue, unless people were coming to blows on set. He has to have looked at the tn and saw that what was happening with Elias was one of the best storylines, and some of the best chemistry between him and Pati, Val, and even with Chucho (which supposedly is where some of the tension was-- it didn't show on screen, until that scene last night). I read in one of the articles that there was a significant ratings drop after he left. Not surprising. It would have made more sense had they gotten rid of the character back when he was going through his rough patch- jobless, angry and bitter about Vero and Chucho.

Thanks for the recap !!! as always. I'm still confused about whether Alma remembers Vero and the kidnapping or not. What does she think happened to her. And Chucho was certainly passive about the whole thing in the hospital. You would have thought he'd be hopping mad with smoke coming out his ears.

Lorena

Nanette,

I can believe that Vero didn't know she was preggers. I've only had one child, but my bff has three. Her first child, she wasn't sick at all, the second though, she couldn't keep anything down, same with the third. It varies with each child. Same with all the over eating. : )

Thanks TJ for the excellent recap. I too like the way you group the scenes.

I know I said that I thought Ricardo would take over the church, but now that it’s happened, I’m thinking he’s only been there for, like, two days.

And could that child please not be put through emotional trauma every other day. This time it’s having her beloved Papa Elias leaving. And we know what’s going to happen next.

Daniela: hope you’re right about Elias, but not holding my breath.

Vivi: maybe he doesn’t want to put his daughter’s mother in jail. Definitely should “blackmail” her into giving him full custody, though.

Anon 5:36: Thanks for the info re: Alma and her memory. I didn’t catch that.

JudyB: re: Alma working at home. Maybe the doctor wants to lower her stress levels and obviously lying in bed thinking about work isn’t doing her any good. That would be my guess. I try to find the logic—somewhere out there.

Madeleine: thanks for the info. I prefer to believe that she should have known and that she’s an idiot.

I'm also thinking Jesus will end up back at Avon.

I definitely believe the producer could have fixed the Elias, Jesus problem if he wanted. This isn't a show without end. There is a definite end point so no star, even Fernando, should have enough power to get rid of a crucial character. The producer could have easily written scenes where they weren't together alone and had other parties around. It was doable.

Now if it was a long running series without end and the star had a problem, or contract coming up, that is one thing. But all of these actors should have been signed for the duration of the show so Fernando should have been told to lump it!

I hate seeing Elias leave!!!

Alma did remember what happened to her and that Vero kidnapped her. She told Jesus. But when Jesus asked if Vero hurt her she said no (she did not mention the slaps). She just said that while she was arguing with Vero, she began to feel really bad, and then she doesn't remember what happened (that's when she passed out), until she woke up in the hospital. It doesn't make any sense why Jesus didn't call the cops on Vero. And Alma should have mentioned that Vero slapped her around, while Vero's two accomplices held her.

Thank you, Tablet Jefa! As per usual, your recap made more sense than the episode.

If they make Elias leave, I hope they bring him back quickly. He is one of my favorite characters. Couldn't they all have just had one of those coworker bonding and conflict resolution things? Maybe a ropes course and group therapy positivity, relaxation, and communication games?

I had hoped Rogue might try to redeem himself, but I was surprised he did such an abrupt turnaround. Not very realistic. I wonder how ballistic he'll go when he finds out Vero's pregnant.

Speaking of Vero's pregnancy, apparently Rogue has no trouble procreating. So if Pati wasn't able to get pregnant all that time she was trying, perhaps she is infertile, like Elias? Or were they merely being uncharacteristically realistic about how long it takes many people to become pregnant?

I bet Discua's long-devout acolytes are going to be pithed in a non-luz-worthy way when they find out she's handed the place over to Ricardo. He only got interested in this religion a few days ago! Has he even finished the book yet? Does he know the whole song?

Oh, about the fainting...I have never been pregnant, but I do have a tendency to pass out, or nearly pass out, if I stand up too quickly. Apparently this is called "neurally mediated hypotension". Some of us really do faint in real life!

If what I've read is the true reason JA has been kicked off the show, I agree with those of you that think they could have rewritten the show so that he and FC had no, or very few, scenes with only the two of them. I also agree about this being a limited production and being so far into the TN--we're almost at the end--they should have made it work with the two actors. One or the other or both actors need to grow up. And then grow up some more.

As I said, if what I've read is true. Maybe it's something we know nothing about and this was the only way to resolve whatever the issue was.

Julia: I used to faint when I was a kid. One time when I was at work (when I was in my late teens, 20s), I hit my elbow on a chair, stood up and fainted. Freaky.

Thanks Vivi for the kidnapping clarification ... Chucho's reaction is still quite puzzling.

Lorena

Thank you Tablet Jefa! And a belated thanks to Pablo, Julie and Cheryl for your recaps too. I just caught up on this week's episodes. A lot can happen in a week, and clearly not all of it was good.

Vero preggers? Oh yuck and double yuck.

It looked to me like Alma forgot some of what happened to her when Vero kidnapped her. But I still can't believe Chucho didn't tell Delia that Vero kidnapped Alma. Really? After all the torture that Vero has put him through? I guess this is Stupid Galan week. (Or maybe that's every week?) No matter, the recaps have been terrific!

Wouldn't it be an awesome twist if Rogue completely reformed himself, and then he and Delia lived happily ever after together? I think there's always been a smidgen of hope for him. Even when he asked Yuri to get Jesus out of the way, he stressed several times that he just wanted them to mess with him psychologically and separate him from Alma, not to kill him.

Julia: I agree about Rog being redeemable. Vero, on the other hand. . .

Though there are moments when she seems to be redeemable, too.

What's that line Harvey Keitel's character says in National Treasure? "Someone's going to have to go to jail."

I really, really hope Rogue turns it around now, because assuming that baby survives, it could use at least one decent parent. I don't see Vero ever becoming less self-absorbed and nasty. Of course, monkey writers can change everything with one swoop of the copy/paste button.
