delights in evicting Amalia and her daughters while making fun of
Maria. She then rips something off the shrine to the Virgencita
before walking out in her FM shoes. [Elvira, God will get you for

Prison
Yard: The band begins playing “Las Rejas No Matan” and Oscar
sings as Santos introduces Mike to Maria. He is clearly impressed
with her.
D.F.,
in front of the Mendozas' Building: Everyone has been evicted;
Mancia is more freaked out than Amalia. Irasema arrives and invites
them to move in with her temporarily.
Prison
Yard: Under the guise of coming for a mariachi competition, the
band is there to help Santos by testifying in his favor. Mike goes
on about how this is a good idea and how eager he is to meet his
friends. It looks like the animosity between Oscar and Santos is
finally over. A guard tells Mike he has a visitor and then escorts
him inside to Wendy and the baby. He asks to hold the baby and is as
happy as any new father.
Justo's
Office: He tries to call Almira for the third time and gets no
answer. Naturalmente, he has a sense of foreboding as he hangs up.
D.F.,
in front of the Mendozas' Building: Paloma sits alone in a
chair, wondering what they will do. We see there is a hole in the
back of one of their couches. Vainessa and her cousin arrive and
Vainessa begins making fun of Paloma. To her confusion and possible
peevishness, Aaron tells her not to make fun of Paloma and then
offers Paloma his family's help. They apparently have something
vacant she can stay in. Paloma thanks him.
Prison
Yard: Fernando shows his wedding ring to Santos and says “This
is your fault, you know!” but tells him he's now a happily married
man. Santos congratulates Fernando and tells him he has a big
surprise for him. He goes inside to fetch Don Nando.
Pensión:
Amalia, Isabel, and the dog enter. Ana is there to help. She tells
Amalia she will get her a cell phone so she can call Don Justo.
Amalia displays her latest level of stupidity by telling her she
doesn't have his number; he always called her. She then hands the
dog to Isabel and tells her to put him to bed. When she exits with
the dog [who, unlike most novela dogs, has just been a set prop]
Amalia tells Ana she intends to go back to Doña Magnolia's to cook
so they can survive. She finally exits and Ana hugs Isabel.
Cell
Block: Don Nando doesn't feel like hearing music and doesn't
want to go outside. He tells Santos he remembers. Santos persuades
him to go to the visitors' room. The prison librarian is passing
through with a cart of books and Santos whispers something to him.
He nods and carries on.
Giuliano's
Office: Whomever he's talking to, he says that the time has come
and soon the attack will take place. As he hangs up, he picks up a
photo of Maria and we get a creep vibe. [Maybe it's because I'm
at the opera tonight, but I think he will try to play Scarpia to
Maria's Tosca.]
Orphanage
(Outside): El Jalisquito is trying to leave; the social worker
is trying to stop him.
She
wants to send him to another family, but he wants to go back to
Fernando and Ana. We find out his name is Vicente.
Visitors'
Lounge: Santos escorts Don Nando inside and he is face to face
with Fernando. Maria is also there and she goes to Santos as soon as
she sees what is happening. Fernando isn't quite believing this,
finally saying that all those years he prayed to the Virgencita to
find out what happened to him. He is unwilling to listen to any
explanation. His mother abandoned him and later died, leaving him an
orphan in the streets. Don Nando explains that he lost his memory
and has been in this prison for many years. Santos explains that
this is true and Don Nando's case was never properly resolved. Maria
is shocked at the injustice. Don Nando begs his son's forgiveness.
Irasema's
Old Place: Mancia is crying over Susanito's absence. Irasema
comforts her.
Visitors'
Lounge: Fernando is still angry on his mother's behalf. His
mother wanted to see Don Nando before she died. He demands to know
how long Don Nando has been in prison. “Muchos años” is all the
old man can say. Santos then tells Fernando that it has been 35
years. Fernando is still not convinced, demanding to know the reason
he is in prison. “They say I killed someone, but I don't remember.
Then my countryman said the word 'Mil Amores' and I remembered that
my name is Fernando Beltran.” The Son dela Negra made him remember
it's been years since he saw his wife. Maria begins crying as Santos
watches this with an eagle eye.
Justo's
Office: He looks at a document, asking himself why a certain
call wasn't investigated. A maid enters to tell him he has a very
insistent visitor. Carl Summer enters, announcing himself as an old
friend. “When were we ever friends?” Justo asks him.
Visitors'
Lounge: Fernando tells his father how much he hates him. He
can't forgive him. “you can't understand how we suffered!” Don
Nando acknowledges this and tells of his own suffering at missing out
on seeing Fernando become a good man, handsomely dressed as he now
is. Fernando is finally tearing up. Don Nando thanks Santos,
telling him this was the best gift anyone ever gave him, then
comments on Maria's beauty.
Justo's
Office: Of course he demands to know what this man is doing here
where he is not welcome. Summer tells him it's not a social call.
It's about his son's case and he better not rest. He reminds Justo
that he has a 100% conviction rate. [Author's note: Not even
Vincent Bugliosi had that.] Justo tells him not to cry victory
yet, that the case against Santos is full of inconsistencies. This
doesn't phase Summer, but Justo reminds him that they aren't a pair
of criminals. Summer's threat is about the downfall of Justo's
entire family. Justo is incredulous that this hatred has gone on for
so long. It seems to be a hatred similar to what Elvira feels for
Maria. Justo thanks him for the warning and warns him that he will
not allow this hatred to hurt his son, whom he will defend to the
end. They stare at each other.
Vistors'
Lounge: Santos prevents Don Nando from leaving. Maria begs
Fernando to not punish the old man further. As Don Nando is about to
exit, Fernando tells him not to leave, then calls him “Papa.”
They embrace. Lagrimas de todos. Finally, Fernando forgives him .
Prison
Yard: The band continues to play, Santos dances with Maria. The
prisoners are enjoying themselves. Someone hands a guitar case to
Oscar, who opens it to reveal Mexican drinks and treats that he
begins distributing to the prisoners. The guard on Giuliano's
payroll watches with a belligerent expression.
Visitors'
Lounge: Fernando wants to know what happened all those years..
but can't see it in his father's eyes. Don Nando wants to know about
Fernando's life. [I am having a sense of foreboding now.]
Fernando doesn't provide much detail, only that he was briefly a
delinquent. Finally that he loved women and thus earned his nick.
However, he now loves only one. He shows his wedding ring, saying he
wants to start a family with Ana. Don Nando is sorry that he didn't
make that happen. “It's in the blood,” Fernando tells him. [Do
people still really believe this?]
Prison
Yard: The band plays on while Santos and Maria dance to “Mexico
Lindo y Querido.” He sings this. For once Oscar doesn't look
resentful as the music segues into Don Vicente's theme song and
Santos picks Maria up and kisses her.
The
kangaroo court begins tomorrow and it looks like while Santos is in a suit he was denied the privilege of a razor [Need I mention that this is not the American way?].

Coloso was never a bad guy, so I'm glad to see he's finally put his jealousy of Pochito away to make Maria happy. That's actually love right there. Coloso is putting Maria's needs & happiness above his.
Fernando Jr. is going to be pithed when he finds out Ms. Social Worker went back on her word and sent Vicente Jalisquito away.
Throughout all the eviction commotion, Amalia's dog looked bored and over it.

I got home shortly before midnight after freezing on Lincoln Center Plaza. There was no real excitement during the arrivals; didn't see anyone famous, but I bet there were a lot of wannabes in that group.
The performance was beautiful and the main cast members came out on the second level to take a curtain call in front of the outdoor audience as well.
Hosting the event was Alice Coote, who will be in the new production Two Boys, which starts in October, and Nico Muhly, the composer. He is only 31 years old. I'm not seeing this production, but may see it somewhere down the road if it's a success.
Now, about the episode:
I refuse to believe that it's that easy to evict anyone from a building, especially with the history of this neighborhood.
Carl Summer's personal vendetta against Justo will not sit will with his superiors and is also permitting corruption on his own part. Particularly since the evidence against Santos is so flimsy.
I think Justo pulled strings to make the prison yard party happen.
Will we eventually see Aaron turning on Vainessa? I'd like to.

I enjoyed the meetup between Fernando Sr. and Jr. Nice job by Arturo Peniche. Santos and Maria butting in gently when needed seemed realistic. I guess the mother put Jr. in an orphanage so he would be guaranteed some food and a roof over his head. It doesn't sound like she cut him out of her life.

Aaron surprised me last night. Vainessa is a complete snob and spoiled brat but it looks like her cousin hasn't completely gone over to the dark side.

Some clarification that doesn't matter in the least--but, for clarity's sake...Aaron wasn't offering Paloma a place to stay, he was offering an unused storage locker to put the furniture. In that instance I thought Aaron, despite his earlier deviousness, is a better match for weepy Paloma than weepy Roddy.
It seemed that only the Mendoza's stuff was carried out to the street. I thought it was funny how all those big guys clearing out the apartment, after picking up the couch and a table, concentrated on the phonograph and framed photos. One of them looked in the kitchen and kinda shook his head.
I didn't think Jalisquito was trying to leave--he was being forced to get in the van to take him to the other orphanage wherever it was he came from. Nothing the poor little guy said moved her. She kept insisting that he would make new friends and would be happy there--cold as ice, she was. Same end result, she went back on her word.
Loved the whole prison scene. Kudos to Arturo--he did a great job with both personalities.
How did these guys get all that food through TSA, unless they checked their precious instruments. I think it was Tostitos and sauce that he took out.
So, Justo is back in LA, just(o) in time for the trial. The Prosecutor is under the influence of OJ. So we'll see how this one goes.

Carolina--if you are watching that one, I'm sure your justice system beanie is on tight.

Watching Arturo Peniche last night was like taking a Master Class in acting. The essence of acting is reacting in character to what is coming to you from another actor. He had nothing coming at him. Add to the extreme difficulty is that the scene was highly emotional. He did a suburb job of showing both Don Nando'confusion and guilt and Fernando's pain and anger. It was riveting. In a word brilliant.

Beautiful pics of Danna. That suit sort of makes her look like a Mariachi Wonder Woman-- instead of the eagle being across her boobs, it's across her, uhm...underoos. :)
This is the first time that I've seen Arturo Peniche in something and actually liked him, he's doing an awesome job in this one!
That eagle on her skirt is just odd. There really is no decent place to put it. The whole outfit would look much better without it.

I have wondered about the placement of that eagle on Maria's skirt. It seems odd and some might think it threatening.

Decie, I'll do that! I don't think I've seen him in much but that's because I came back to telenovelas only about two years ago.
I find it very endearing that Jalisquito's real name turns out to be Vicente. I'm thinking it is a tribute to Jalisco;'s own great Vicente Fernandez who also used to sing on the street for tips and who of course sings the theme song.

Coloso's sombrero had a beautiful gold braid. Really stunning.
Maria's sombrero was equally stunning, but in a feminine way.
I've never quite understood the placement of that eagle on the white dress. Is that standard?
Justo, the actor, has a beautiful speaking voice.
Justo and Summers both have beautiful grey hair.
Danna Garcia really doesn't need the filler on the upper lip. It's not over the top like a fish mouth, but she doesn't need it.
I have enjoyed the theme of "finding oneself" in this TN. How far does one have to go and how much does one have to suffer in order to truly know and find oneself?

I don't see how, at this late stage, that there is any good reason for Justo and Amalia to end up. There has been no real "knowing" about what they would even mean to each other. So, if they get together in the end, it would be pretty phony.
Lastly, Arturo Peniche. How many mores times can I say it? Mr. Peniche, I have no idea if any of you actors read our friendly blog, but I send you my deepest admiration for your acting.
