Corazon Indomable - caps 138 & 139 Fri 11/22/13 She's Baaack!

Two hours we'll never get back... Two... Dos... This double episode could have taken thirty minutes and still have been wayyy too long. But some good things happened so I'll try not to be excessively bitter.

We get to see Miguel die again... almost as satisfying as the first time  though we didn't get to see Nazario pull the trigger this time around. We get only minimal sepia flashbacks of the good times with Miguel... but let's face it, there weren't all that many.

We're also treated to Nazario's surrender. He did it his way, first finishing off his beer. He swills it down, slowly stands up, and thrusts out his wrists

Killin' A Man Is Thirsty Work

"I don't regret what I did."

Yes, well wait until you get thirsty again, I'm betting... no beer for you for a very long time.

And last but not least... She's baaack! You heard right, Doris has returned and lest we forgot, reminds us that she is the governor's daughter.

But first we have a lot... and I do mean a lot... of dreary filler. So pour yourself a double of whatever, sit back, and endure.

Juanita assures Maricruz that she looks great in a cheap dress. Let's face it, Maricruz looks great in just about anything. She tells Juanita that she will get in touch with Octavio tomorrow to tell him where they are. She's anxious to see him. Lupita must be off the drugs because she seems much more animated and not so drowsy. Maybe she's joined a twelve step program.

Alfonso confirms his date for the opera with his mom. Both are very excited ... well, perhaps she's a bit more enthusiastic than he is. His new intended and her new companion lady will be going. She encourages him to dress nice.

"He Was Loved And Respected... We Expected A Few More People."

As was his wish, Miguel's interment is an intimate affair attended by a few close friends and relatives. Among those there were Octavio, Miguelito, Simona, Ofelia, José Antonio, Ester, and Santa, with Padre Julián officiating... in fact, that was pretty much everyone who attended. It was touching to watch Octavio assist his nephew say farewell to his dad with a traditional blessing as he directs his hand in making the Sign of the Cross.

"En el Nombre del Padre, del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo. Amén."

He announces that,

"My brother will always remain in the earth that he loved for all his life, without ever abandoning it."

"Do You Like Gladiator Movies, Miguelito?"

Well, I guess at least until the bulldozers move him out of the way for the gold mine.

He hugs Miguelito and promises to look out for and care for him always.

Miguelito extracts a tear from each of us with his stoic reply,

"Sí, Tío."

What a small world. Alfonzo answers the door at his mom's place and surprise surprise! He already has met his mom's new companion lady. They exchange glares and after saying that he already knows her, thinks better of it and says that she reminds him of someone he knows but this isn't her.

"(STFU!)"

He's holding her hand. Wow, they really had me worried for a moment here. Mommy goes for her purse, Maricruz jerks her hand free and he demands to know why she left him with so suddenly with him holding his paintbrush in his hand.

Alone at the graveside Octavio says his last goodbye to his brother and solemnly, slowly walks away.

After complaining a bit more about her hasty exit Alfonso shifts gears and tells Maricruz that her she has pretty eyes. Hey, dummy, it's the dimples...¿Captas?... Clementina to the rescue. She tells Maricruz to beware of her son, he is a don Juan... I think that Maricruz has already picked up on that, Clem.

We are told that it's days later and now we're in DF as uncle and nephew go in search of Maricruz.

"Can't You Keep Him Just A Few Minutes While I Hunt For His Step Mom?"

Sadly, Miguelito has elected to emulate the unfortunate fashion sense of his hero from La Tepestad, Hernán Saldaño, and is wearing rose-colored jeans. I think that Tío actually may be escorting him to his violin lesson.

"Oh Crap! We Forgot Your Violin."

The kid doesn't like walking and insists that Octavio carry him. They catch a taxi. They search. No luck. The kid really prefers being carried. Another taxi.

Maricruz has sent a telegram to the farm notifying Octavio of her new address. Simona receives it, reads it, consults with Ofelia... looks like they're in no hurry to share this information. I guess Dr. Dan didn't quite remove all the mean with that brain surgery.

Juanita suggests that perhaps the folks back at the ranch might not have told Octavio about the telegram. After all, Maricruz was not a favorite back home.

The search goes on. Octavio notices that this is a pretty big city. The two stop for lunch in a restaurant. Using his piloting skills Octavio guides planeloads of food into Miguelito's open hangar... er... mouth. Well Mexico City may be a big place but Alfonso manages to walk in and find our guys sitting at that table eating. And who would have guessed? Alfonso and Octavio are old friends.

"Do You Like Gladiator Movies, Octavio?"

Maricruz has met a couple of Clem's friends and has fleeced them in a game of cards. They don't mind, they're rich, easy come easy go. After they leave Maricruz tells her boss that she once worked a casino. Now Clem wants Maricruz to help choose some outfits so that they'll both be elegantly smashing at an upcoming party she has planned. She apparently wants to help Maricruz find a husband.

Alfonso and Octavio do some catching up. Al is an undistinguished artist with a studio nearby. Octavio is a pilot who isn't flying right now... long story.

Clementina babbles nonsense at Maricruz. Maricruz listens.

Alfonso and Ocavio chat.

Clem thinks it's fine for her son to marry an idiot girl. She's rich, he's pretty... perfect match. Then they look at an upscale clothing catalog.

"Dang! Look At The Size Of That Thing."

Alfonso tells Octavio about Maricruz. Octavio tells Alfonso about Maricruz. So far... no name is mentioned.

Maricruz discusses her work as a companion with Juanita. Juanita mildly disapproves but then Maricruz spots Octavio walking along the sidewalk with Miguelito. Fortunately Miguelito is wearing blue jeans and thank goodness, I don't see a violin case.

"Juanita! It's him."

She hurries out to intercept them as Juanita and Lupita look out the window.

"We Call It The Outdoors. Someday You May Get To Go There."

Al calls his mom to tell her that he ran into Octavio Narváez. She remembers him. Let's invite him to the party. He asks about Maricruz. She's out... sick aunt. He thinks her time would have been better spent with him.

Maricruz looks for Octavio and Miguelito... missed them by this much. Maybe those spike heels slowed her down. Juanita suggests that she may have just imagined seeing them. Maricruz whines about having to go to that party. Lupita has eaten something and then wonders what to do about her greasy fingers. Life is tough.

Octavio drops in on Alfonso in his studio. He's been doing office work and his office is nearby. He'd rather be flying. He tells Al about his past and about losing his license to fly because of Doris and her dad. He tells Al that it took some doing but he's recovered his license. OK, those of you who've been paying attention know that he never lost his license, but monkeys have short memories.  Just so happens that Al knows some airline people. He'll help Octavio get back off the ground.

Maricruz is encouraged by Juanita not to give up hope of finding Octavio and suggests a newspaper ad.

More days pass and Al invites Octavio to the party. He wants to introduce him to the woman he's smitten by but warns hands off... she's his.

At Clemtina's she's being fitted for her party dress. Girl talk. She's picked out a rich guy for Maricruz.

More guy talk between Al and O... let's move along people this is starting to drag even more than it has.... borrrring.

More days pass...

Maricruz has finally composed her ad for the newspaper. Lupita has another new hairdo and is very frisky and is bouncing on the bed. Juanita is not as optimistic as she was and counsels Maricruz to trust in God and be patient.

Looks like Alfonso was as good as his word... Octavio is flying again... this time between the US and Mexico. Now if only he could locate Maricruz.

"Where can she be? How am I going to find her."

WE have a few suggestions, but he's never bothered to listen to us before.... why start now?

Maricruz and Alfonso chat at Clem's place. He wonders why why she's not more into him. She tells him that it's not her... it's him. Then he takes this opportunity to tell her that he's in love with her.

Dressed a a pilot Octavio mulls over ways to find Maricruz.

After Maricruz tells Al that he's wasting his time pursuing her. Mama joins them and after Maricruz excuses herself, he pleads with his mom to give him an assist in winning over Maricruz. For some reason, as much as this lady wants to fix Maricruz up with someone, she does not think that she matches up well with her son.

Maricruz takes a private moment to remember, long for, and pine over Octavio.

Mama and Al talk. She is adamant that he marry this Mercedes girl. He says OK but he wants him a little Mariruz as well.

OK... let's take a moment to look at Alfonso. Some of you may see him as a viable option for Maricruz. I've not liked him from the moment I first laid eyes on him. When he's left alone for a moment he gets these sinister looks ... too often to be just coincidental. Has anyone else noticed that? Octavio may not be the best galan ever, but he is the one that has been selected for and by Maricruz. Trust me, Alfonso may not be a bad man but he is not suitable for our Maricruz. I don't trust anyone in this family and am beginning to suspect that poor Mercedes (well not money-wise... you know what I mean) may be a means for this family to escape financial ruin. It's not like this sort of thing hasn't happened before.

At Al's studio, Elis, Al's current sultry model flirts with Octavio. Maybe he'll take her with him to Nueva York sometime.

At her room with Lupita, Maricruz frets that there's been no response to the newspaper ad. It's been three days already.

Elis, Alfonso, Juan José and Octavio talk about love. Al sums it up by pointing out that none of them can have what they desire at the moment. Al is confident that at least he'll eventually get what he is pursuing.

Maricruz continues her fretting.

Elis gets annoyed with Alfonso. Apparently she is heading down the off ramp of his life.

Maricruz keeps Clem company as she babbles more nonsense about her son and his upcoming marriage. Maricruz almost chokes on her coffee when Clemtina asks her if she wouldn't enjoy a bit of Alfonso herself.

Juanita has received a letter from Santa (the lady with the long shiny gray hair back home... not that jolly old elf from the North Pole):

My dear Juanita,

What a treat it was to receive your letter. I was very anxious to hear about my girl Maricruz and my frizzy-haired tyke. Thanks for writing to me. I was excited and tearful reading your letter. To answer your questions, I'll tell you that don Octavio was been left with don Miguel's boy after don Miguel was killed by Eusebio's brother.

Juanita takes a second to react,

"¡Ay, Virgen Sata!"

Regarding Simona, she's engaged to the doctor who operated on her and is very happy because as soon as they can they are going to get married. The two of them want to open up a clinic here for the workers and country folk. She loves the on she had with Octavio very much. She looks after him well and Octavio is also very caring.

Write to me and tell me how my girls Lupita and Maricruz are and if they have reunited with Octavio yet. He was very sad and depressed when he left for the Capital.

Juanita puts down the letter and sighs,

"He's in Mexico. Then it was him that la Señora saw."

Even though Clem is OK that her son has an interest in Maricruz, Maricruz is not the least bit interested in that womanizer or any other man for that matter, but anyway, she prefers conservative serious men. Clem calls her old fashioned and asks if she has ever been in love. Maricruz promises to talk about that another time, but not now.

Juanita continues reading Santa's letter,

Here everything is moving along. The mining company has already begun its work. They say they will build houses for good new workers. Part of the money will go to the government and the rest to the company.

Juanita hopes that's so,

"May God want it."

The letter goes on,

Write soon, Juanita, and also tell my girl Maricruz what is happening. I pray for her every night and for her to remarry her true love Octavio. Hugs and Kisses for the three of you.

Santa

Clemtina natters on about Alfonzo's cousin who fell in love with him and still wants him. She tells Maricruz that she is so pretty that her friends worry that she might take her husband away from her (he probably wishes). Will someone please shut this cow up? She can't possibly be paying Maricruz enough to listen to this drivel.

Now we join Maricruz as she goes from airline to airline in search of Otavio, who also continues his search.

"He's About Yay Tall And Has A Dopey Grin"

Back at the room, Juanita hands Maricruz Santa's letter.

"Read this, Señor Octavio is in Mexico."

More lamenting by Maricruz and Juanita over the missing Octavio as Lupita appears to be on some type of weird acid trip of her own.

"Wow! Look At All The Pretty Unicorns."

Maybe just a wee sip of Benadryl is in order?

Alfonso has dropped in on his mom hoping to see Maricruz. Nopis, she's out takin' care of business. He's got his heart set on having her, mom thinks he won't succeed because Maricruz considers him to be a womanizer. He thinks that just makes him all the more attractive. He swears that he will have her. These two are insufferable idiots.

Octavio and Al are at Al's studio. O is having doubts about going to the party. He's sad over not finding youknowwho and everyone will notice that. Al insists. They both talk about Maricruz though neither realizes that they're talking about the same woman. Too bad the use of names is discouraged in this show. Octavio is such a downer that now Alfonso is worried that ehe'll become like his friend because of his mom's companion. Could happen... YOU GUYS ARE TALKING ABOUT THE SAME LADY!

Well if we had any doubts about he budget for this show being tight we now have solid proof. Lupita is now doubling up as Maricruz's makeup artist.

"OK Honey, Not Too Much Dimple Dust."

Actually this is a very cute scene even if Maricruz can't stop grousing about what a terrible time she's going to have... she won't fit in... people with talk about her and criticize... Yikes! I'd even prefer hearing her spew a little of her old time vengeance. Turn down the sound and enjoy watching her interact with the kid. Juanita gives a little half-hearted pep talk about enjoying the party but even she doesn't believe what she's saying.

In his room Octavio ruminates over... care to guess?

More pep talk from Juanita... saved by the phone... Maricruz's ride is here.

Maricruz looks fabulous in a long floor-length beige (peach?) clingy evening gown. No highlo outfit for our girl tonight. Her hair is loose and cascades down her neck in both back and front. The kid did a great job with her makeup.

Ick! Alfonso has come himself to pick her up (in both senses of the word). She scolds him. He should be at the club greeting the guests with his fiancee.

In his pilot's uniform, Octavio rides alone in a taxi. He decides to stay only half an hour then scram. All he can think of is... want to fill in the blank?

Maricruz enjoys a warm conversation with Alfonso as he drives her to the party.

"You Want Me To Do What To Your What?"

He insists that he will dance with her. She scowls.

The party scene looks more like a dressy get together at the subdivision clubhouse. Well OK, no folding chairs and tables but a similar ambiance. Octavio wanders in and is soon spotted by a pretty dark-haired girl in red.  She wants to dance.

Maricruz's pleasant ride to the party continues. He wants to finish her portrait and give it to her. She just wants out of the car and hops out as soon as he pulls up. She tells him not to waste his time with her.

Maricruz enters with Octavio trailing her like an over eager Irish Setter. The party's progressing drearily. She looks around... she spots Octavio with the girl in red! .... Wait... false alarm... the party drags on.

Al, with Maricruz as his prisoner, greets the 'rents. Ugh... Sebastián, fresh from PEAM, and Paula late (literally) fon AV. Small party talk ensues.

Maricruz whines. Alfonso gets that dance he wanted with Maricruz. As Maricruz predicted, a couple of old hens cluck their disapproval.

Metiches R Us

Al's daddy manges to escape Clemtina and she natters with a friend. Yep, I've attended this same party myself... wayyy too many times.

Amanda, the girl in red, has taken a liking to Octavio as they continue dancing.

"I Want You Right Here And Now...On This Dance Floor"

Maricruz seems uncomfortable dancing with Alfonso, but our hearts stir... it looks like those two couples are about to bump into one another!... wait... false alarm... the party drags on as Maricruz escapes.

Clemtina briefly traps Alfonso but he manages to escape... gonna get him some Champagne.

She then captures Maricruz and introduces her (but strangely enough... not us) to Mechida (Mercedes... the fiancee) who appears to have pigtails.

Al chats with Octavio and wants to introduce him to the woman he is so smitten with.At this point, I'm betting that it doesn't happen... at least not tonight.

Poor Al, his mom has caught up with him again and this time she has Mercedes in tow. We still don't get a good look at her but indeed she has pigtails and seems to be both shy and... ummm... slow. I'm guessing at this point one of the short bus kids. Clem encourages them to steal away and enjoy one another. Mechida giggles. Alfonso shudders.

"Why Yes, I've Found That Getting 2 At A Time Saves On Trips To The Bar"

Clementina takes Maricruz a glass of Champagne. Maricruz could liven things up right now if she'd only do a replay of her first Champagne encounter... but she won't. Drat. Yikes! Now she wants to introduce Maricruz to the guy she has picked out for him. Are you sure that you don't wanna spew a little Champagne, Maricruz?

Octavio is having a better time than he thought he would, thanks to Amanda.  She hopes this won't be the last time the see each other. Me too.

Clemmy drags Mari into an empty hallway and bids her to wait while she rustles up that future husband for her,

"Don't move."

If only Maricruz would turn around and if only Octavio would look up... this close... but relax... it ain't gonna happen.

Clemmy has located Maricruz's future millionaire husband at the bar...suffice it to say that he's no Emir Karim, José Antonio, Alvaro, Angél, or even Luv Guv. She hauls him into the empty hallway but now Maricruz has vanished.

'Where could she have gone?"

She thinks that she must have been captured by Alfonso, but nopis, here he is complaining that his mom is trying to fix her up with this Leonardo guy.  He won't have it. He also thinks that Maricruz must have a dark hidden secret.

Maricruz has found a quiet bench on which to catch her breath,

"No one can find me here. Neither Alfonso nor his mother. I'm in no mood to have a good time or enjoy myself. The news of Miguel's death has me stunned and I'm so worried about Octavio and his orphaned nephew. I'll never find him."

Clem wants to know what he means by dark and hidden. He shrugs her off.

OK... those of you who were bored and have been napping (hey, I don't blame you) wake up. SHE'S HERE! The Doris has arrived!

"Hey People! I'm Doris! I'm The Governor's Daughter!"

She's wearing a simple scarlet cocktail dress with matching shoes, pearl necklaces, dangly earrings and her hair long, pulled back in braids and tresses. Looking good.

Alfonso spots her... suddenly it's Mari-who?

He has a plan. He's going ask to dance with Mechida and wants Octavio to break in freeing him up to...

O reluctantly agrees.

Alfonso approaches Doris who is standing alone,

"God, in all my life have I ever met a woman as beautiful as you? Uh...?"

"Doris."

"Doris."

He tells her that he wants to capture her on canvas.

"Por favor, don't fantasize."

"Know what? When I first saw you I couldn't breathe."

"Well, what bad lungs."

"Aren't you Mercede's fiance?"

"Yes, but I'm not her husband yet and I could reconsider."

"No, I don't believe you."

"Please, just give me one word and I'll break it off tonight."

"I'm not going to give you one, I'll tell you three."

"Don't be fake."

"Ay please."

At this moment she turns around and comes face to face with...

"¡Octavio Narváez!"

If ever there was a time for a commercial break... this is it.

He tries to escape but she grabs him. Never expected to run into him at a party in Mexico.

"Doris Montenegro."

He almost spits out her name. She tries to make nice. Alfonso fidgets. Doris tell him to go find his fiance and dance with her. She'll dance with Octavio.

She smiles and makes nice. She attempts to make small talk. Since she saw him last she's been married and divorced. She wants to go somewhere quiet and talk.

Maricruz is still sitting alone on that bench that makes you invisible taking to herself.
All Alone On The Group W Bench

It's almost two in the morning (hasn't the time flown by?)  She should get back to doña Clentina. Hey, don't forget, you still have a Leonardo to meet and marry. She looks around at the happy couples and takes another moment to enjoy a little self-pity.

Doris is trying so hard... she brings up the casino woman...

"Have you heard anything from her?"

Oops bad choice. We'll leave you guys to glare for a moment and then get back to you.

Maricruz rejoins Clementia and Francisco. Clem starts to scold but Mari explains that she had a tummy ache. She wants to go home. Like a bunny, Al pops up and offers to drive her.

Doris is really trying hard to patch things up a bit. They can at least be friends... can't they?

I vote yes yes yes... other opinions may vary.

Clem insists that Maricruz allow Al to drive her home. They leave.

Doris tells Octavio that she is living here in Mexico. She wants to be friends. She hardly knows anyone. You might almost say that she need him.

Alfonso escorts Maricruz into the hotel lobby,

"Do you want me to accompany you to your room?"

"In your mind... Thanks."

As she walks away he focuses on her butt.

"Damn!"

In her room she resumes her pity party with Juanita who made the mistake of asking how the party went. She swears (as we are treated to sepia memories) that if she's ever reunited with Octavio things will be so special and different.

"(Poor Thing, She Thinks I Actually Care.)"

Octavio tells Doris that she might enjoy meeting Alfonso but warn her that he's a womanizer. She thinks that she'll be able to handle him.

More girl talk between Maricruz and Juanita. Maricruz wonders if men suffer as much for love as omen do. She misses Octavio soooo much.

As Octavio says goodbye to Doris she insists that they see each other again. He won't make any promises but smiles at her as he turns and leaves. She sighs and tells us,

Still Crazy After All These Years

"Octavio Narváez... Alone...Sad... and as interesting as ever. Could it be that destiny has made me find him again?"

Carlos! I had the same reaction about the people that showed for the funeral, my sister screamed at me "the padre does not count, he can't get out of going!" Lol

Oooo oooo the captions they get me every time and that hamster is freaking brilliant! Weeeeeeeee!

LOL, Carlos! Brilliant recap. Wow, could they drag out the MC-Tav reunion anymore?

ITA that Alfie has quickly become a jerk, like most of MC's suitors before him. What a shame. Loved how Doris handled Al. I hope he continues to pursue her, so that we can see how she continues to shoot him down. Her shoot downs are way more fun than MC's.

It's a good thing Juanita is around to update MC's friends on her status, since we know that MC never looks back once she leaves a place or lets her old friends know how she's doing. I have to laugh at the whole telegram and newspaper ad thing. Seriously? THAT'S how MC is communicating with Tav? LOL!

The scenes with the kids were adorable. I hope we see more of them.

Carlos- Did you not recognize Amanda as red-headed reformed bad girl Iliana from Amor Bravio? I like red hair on her more than this jet black hair.

Ya know, if MC hates this job so much, maybe she should let Juanita take it instead, and she can stay home with Lupita. I'm sure Juanita won't have as many complaints (she's used to a patrona who natters on and on), and I'm also sure she would LOVE to be fixed up with a rich, handsome husband.

Thanks Eli and Vivi,

It took a bit longer than I was expecting.

Eli, I almost felt badly for Miguel...almost.

Vivi, for the life of me I couldn't remember where I'd seen her before. Thanks. I also liked her more as a redhead, but she really brought the heat, didn't she.

Doris didn't disappoint. And Maricruz still hasn't seen her. Wow, Alfonso and his family just keep getting weirder and weirder.

Carlos

Still didn't feel bad for Miguel. As Octavio walked away and the sad music started, I wanted the cross to fall over!

Yay, Doris is back!

And Octavio is back to his brainless actions. Now he's going to be weak-minded enough to let Elis, Amanda and Doris push him around and do what they want. All because he's such a "gentleman" who "doesn't want to be rude" and won't give anyone an unequivocal "NOT interested" - wonder how many of these he will get engaged to?

Naima

Carlos, I'm with you on the Miggreedy thing, I almost felt bad for him but I got over it in like .000001 seconds. I kinda feel bad for Mecedes, it can't be good if everyone thinks you're a "boba" (bot sure on the spelling. Everyone has called her that, poor thing!

Why did they never show us Mercedes's face? That was so odd. Is she that ugly? Poor girl. And yes, she must really be a dolt if those "geniuses" keep calling her boba.

Welcome back, Naima, and thanks for commenting.

As for Octavio and these ladies:
Elis... no thanks.
Doris... too high maintenance not to mention the obvious
Amanda... definitely worth a second look

Eli, they didn't even show poor Mercedes' face... oh my.

Carlos

Wow! What a treat this is going to be. Thank you, Carlos! This beautiful recap and comments should make up for the FRUSTRATION I felt at the close calls between MC and Tav: the near misses were very well orchestrated but maddening! And why didn't MC just yell out the window when she saw Tav. . too easy I guess.

Lila

Wow, Carlos...thanks for biting the bullet and retelling this endless insanity. Has there ever been another novela that had so many hombres fall in love at first glance with the leading lady? Mari is wasting so much time ...first on revenge...then on pining for O , who used to be the focus of that revenge.

Loved your photos and captions, especially the one for the funeral.

And here's Doris...again. We evidently have been going in a circle.

The writers seem to think that all they have to do to keep this show going is to introduce new characters as old ones are forgotten or killed off....not working. One nonsensical storyline is just exchanged for another.

By the way Eli, I think I added 2 more photos with captions while you were posting your first comment.

Thanks Lila, I hope you enjoy. As frustrating as they were, I thought that those close calls were kinda fun.

Carlos

By the way, don't Mari and The Big O have cellphones ? Couldn't they just call each other?...oh..sorry, I know, that makes too much sense. What was I thinking ?

anti robot word I.D. "sogood"...no , it's not.

Every bit as good as I knew it would be: Loved Lupita's acid trip, love Lupita. Any one else notice the other day she and MC were reading a book with animals and MC made moo for cow and then oink for pig and Lupita said (in Spanish, of course) "my stomach makes ooooink!" Also loved Juanita's caption: "Poor Thing, She Thinks I Actually Care." As someone noted earlier, Poor Juanita with zippo life. Anywho, to your question about Al: No, no me gusta para nada! Let him take Doris and fly away with her on her broom. Unfortunately the previews show MC finally seeing Tav in one of those famous lip locks that paralyze our otherwise strong manly galans. Ugh!

Lila

Carlos, great recap great captions from "dimple dust" "the bench that makes you invisible" to gladiator movies.Very funny. Thanks.

Wasn't that just another 1 in how many millions who live in DF concidence that Alfonso and Octavio know each other and just happened to run into each other?

One would have thought that Maricruz and Octavio would have arranged a way apart from leaving messages with Simona (that was really dumb assuming she would assist them in meeting up) to contact each other in DF. It could have been so easy. But that would have forced the characters to actually think ahead and not act on impulse which is not how they operate.

Not a previous Doris fan I was actually happy to see her after the boring interlude on the ranch. For those of you who are fans of the actress who plays her:
Ingrid Martz is currently in "Que pobres tan ricos"

All in all I enjoyed the episode and am looking forward to Maricruz's adventures in DF. I am sure the plot will keep us guessing.

Jarifa

Carlos, if we could bottle and sell you, we'd put the antidepressant folks out of business. You had me laughing out loud again like a crazy person this evening.

Lord! those captions!.."We Call It The Outdoors. Someday You May Get To Go There." had me howling.

But so did Metiches R Us, Killin' A Man is Thirsty Work, and "He was Loved and Respected. We expected a few more people."

I'm going to be laughing all night, remembering those quips. And NOT watching the Baylor game, although I wish you well in that, amigo.

Some of my other faves in the recap were:

"We get only minimal sepia flashbacks of good times with Miguel...but let's face it--there weren't all that many."

Amen to that.

and

"I guess Dr. Dan didn't quite remove all the mean with that brain surgery."

So true. And enjoyed your patient annoyance with the endless society babble and your frank, and well-merited distrust of our artist galan.

I'm quite distressed seeing Peniche play a skanky guy since he was such an adorable and noble character in Refugio.

I knew I didn't have the patience to watch 2 hours of near-misses with Octavio so I turned this off after Maricruz failed to catch him when he passed by her window.

So bless you for sticking it out and writing this hilarious recap. Your captions are good medicine, Dr. Carlos. Even with a freezing cold snowy day, you have me smiling from ear to ear. Gracias.

Oh, and good title also, though I can't quite muster the same enthusiasm for Doris that you can.

Uh.oh..."freezing cold, snowy day"....please do not send that eastward, Judyb. It is cold here but no snow yet.

Oh dear...well, I AM watching, for a little bit anyway, and Oklahoma just scored. But I still think you'll win. And I want you to. Go Bears!

Well, I actually watched this show and thought the same thing as you Carlos, this show could have been done in a half hour.
Or one sentence recap: Octavio never meets up with MC but meets up with Doris instead.

Am I the only one who thinks Al could be Mark Tacher's brother?

If Octavio and MC met each other, this show would be over. Since there are 22 more episodes, they will miss seeing each other for another 20 episodes. Ugh.

Carlos thank for your recap and giving me good laughs. Also, the title, the captions (your note about poor Miguelito and Herny was priceless), and ending w/our hamster friend was the perfect end to my day.

The writers are incompetent (I'll only cite the mistake you mentioned about Tav's pilot license but there are many more goofs) and cruel. Way to waste time and torment your viewers by not showing our misguided couple together again.

Migreedy is gone and Doris is back. Though Doris will bring the crazy and some life back into the show that is a high price.

It really irks me that Clementina and Alfonso both think it's ok to have MC be his mistress while he's married. Clementina mentioned that her husband, (wasn't he the man who played the father of Mariano in Amor Bravio?) has a mistress too, and that seemed alright by Clementina.
It's like this idiotic show takes place in the 1950's. MC sends a telegram, men have mistresses, and women have companions.
By the way, I liked that millionaire guy that Clementine wanted to set MC up with. She should send him my way. Ahem.

Thanks Susanlynn, Lila, Jarifa, cathyx, and Judy,

Well it's halftime... Ok St 14 BU 3 Yikes!

Susanlynn, I can't help it, I'm hopelessly in like with Doris.

Lila, I'm glad that you enjoyed this. Lupita was such a delight in that scene. I think that she was fascinated by that overhead camera they've been using... or maybe she ate a brownie.

Jarifa, I doubt that I enjoyed this quite as much as you did, but it was fun to recap though it seemed to take forever. That scene from Airplane made me fall out of my seat the first time I saw it.

cathyx, I feel the same about Alfonso and Clementina. What a pair.

Judy, "We Call It The Outdoors. Someday You May Get To Go There." was my favorite... I expect a bit of reaction from the gringo, though. Also, did you notice all the hairstyles the poor kid had?

Fingers crossed.

Karen, I'm so glad that Doris is back... I'm willing to pay the price.

Carlos

Gracias Carlos! I was hoping it would fall to you when I calculated that it would be a two hour episode. We need the laughs at this point.

You realize that all of next week, but maybe not Thursday, will be two hour episodes. And why have they not announced ultimas semanas - or did I miss it? Not that I'm ready for it to be over or anything.... wait! I must be channeling Gringo.

By the way, where is Gringo? We need his optimism now more than ever...

Carlos, you never miss a beat! Your style is just awesome, the perfect fit for a telenovela that never made any sense.

Susanlynn, YES, where are their cell phones??? God, this is so maddening.

So 2 hours episodes from now on: that means it will be over soon, but recapping will be dreadful.
Funny how they cut so much of La Tempestad to have if finished more quickly, but they give us 2 complete episodes of CI, when editing some of the boredom out would be so much easier.

So, wanna bet that now that we are in Mexico, we never see Solita, Esther, JA ever again? Will MC never find out what a slime JA really is??

Carlos, NOBODY could have beaten Okalahoma State last night. They would have trounced Alabama. Just scary how on fire they were. My sympathies. We've been there. It's no fun. But your recap sure was.

Thanks LoriLoo and Adriana,

LoriLoo, well thank goodness there were some laughs to be found in this episode. I think that Alfonso and his family may provide us with a bit of mystery. The fact that Clementina seems to indulge Alfonso in every way except for her adamant insistence that he marry Mercedes is puzzling. She doesn't even seem to have a problem with his seduction plans for Maricruz. I'm not too worried about that happening because she seems to have his number.

Adriana, I think that you may be right about us never seeing Solita again although that would be a real crime. I think that they have to give us some closure on the José Antonio/Ester story. He must be punished.

Where indeed is gringo? Let's hope that he is OK. He seemed excited about the 2 hr episodes and was a bit peeved about no show for Thur. I thought he'd have a lot to say about this episode and would be chomping at the bit to say it.

Thanks Judy, you are absolutely right. Ok St was unbeatable last night and we were the hapless victims. I was in shock when it started to sink in that we just weren't going to be able to come up with a solution.

Congratulations to your Buckeyes. Now I want to see them get the opportunity to play for the national title.

Carlos

Carlos, I loved the caption STFU! That's exactly the look.
And yeah, Vivi, why didn't they show Mercedes face? Is it going to be a shocker if they show it? Is she such an insignificant character that she's not worthy of showing her face? At least she has a name.

Carlos, I've been laughing to myself all day about your comment on Miguel being buried in the land he loved so much and will never leave (until the bulldozers arrive to mine for gold). Kind of serves him right.

Carlos---You didn't sound very happy with these two episodes but you did a good job anyway.
I must admit that I thought that you have been missing the mark with your picture captions lately
but I can see that you are back on track. --- Ok Honey, Not Too Much Dimple Dust --- You Want Me To Do What To Your What --- Hey People! I'm Doris! I'm The Governor's Daughter! These were all winners and proof that you are back on track.
I loved your line that Maricruz almost chocked on her coffee when
Clemtina asks her if she wouldn't
enjoy a bit of Alfonso herself?
Looks like another strange novela
rich family---are these rich people all warped in some way I ask?

Naima---As Octavio walked away and the sad music started, I wanted the cross to fall down. That would have been a scene for the Oscars.

Susanlynn---Yeah, it's not working
that's introducing new characters as the old ones are forgotten or killed off---Not working? Yeah right! That's why the ratings of CI are so high, #2 out of 30 novelas.

Speaking about cellphones, they don't seem to be in [heavy] usage in a lot of modern day novelas. Don't know why. Yes I know that several have them but several do not or at least limit their usage.

LoriLoo---The gringo is here but without much time to write this weekend. I will write a little more late this afternoon LA time.
Early evening for most of you guys. I'm late already---got to run.
the gringo

Great recap of what I kinda thought was a bit boring episode until very end.

Does anyone else think Doris seemed more sane? Obviously must be on the antipsychotic drugs finally. Also the fact that she said she just didn't want to be known as "la hija de guv " which is what she made sure everyone knew before.

So Tav and MC still apart after promising to be together. Should I just check back in 20,22 epi? Seems pretty obvious what we are in store for...except I still hope JA gets his just desserts.

OT:
In the latest issue of the magazine TVyNovelas, they listed the Top 10 Novelas of 2013 (with a possible 5 points given for each of 5 categories - Writing; Acting; Photography & Editing; Cinematography & Wardrobe; Music):

Funny that Direction is not one of the categories.

#10 - Pasión Prohibida (17.5 points)
#9 - Dama y Obrero (18.0)
#8 - Amor Bravio (18.5)
#7 - Sansón y Dalila (19.0)
#6 - Porque el Amor Manda (19.0)
#5 - El Señor de Los Cielos (20.5)
#4 - Corona de Lagrimas (20.5)
#3 - Que Bonito Amor (21.5)
#2 - La Patrona (23.0)
And the winner is:
#1 - Amores Verdaderos (24.0)

I only watched four of these, but my number one pick would be Amor Bravio with Amores Verdaderos a close second. QBA and PEAM would be at the bottom of the list.

Hmmm ... no mention of La Tempestad or Corazon Indomable.

Anon- Yeah, I applaud them for not putting CI on that list. But anyone who would put PEAM or QBA above Amor Bravio is smoking something. La Patrona and El Senor de los Cielos were also very good, and AV was fun.

Thanks Pepe and welcome. I hope that you join in more often with your comments. I'm guessing that Octavio put the same amount of deep thinking into choosing Miguel's final (for the moment) resting place as he has used in making all of his other important decisions.

Thanks gringo, good to see that you're OK. I'm glad to hear that the photos and captions are back up to your standards. I'm guessing like me, that you're not seeing Alfonso's lechery as a significant threat to our Maricruz's virtue. I do hope you return when you have more time to give us your thoughts about the shy and mysterious Mechida.

Thanks, Carvivile. I fear that you may be right in thinking that Doris seems more sane although I'm hoping that instead of being more sane that she is just more wily. Her eyes still have that ditzy sparkle though also a small touch of sadness seems to have been added.

Thanks Anon for sharing that list of rankings. I agree that it's curious that direction wasn't a criterion. AS much as I enjoyed AV, I thought that AB was quite a bit better.

Carlos

About the Mysterious Mercedes:

Do you guys remember the friend who followed Doris around when we first met Doris? She had pigtails. I went back to some old recaps to see if I could find a name for her... she was referred to as Pigtail Girl, that girl with the godawful pigtails, and I named her Gidget. Here is a photo that I put in a recap which doesn't show her face. I've gone ahead added the best photo that I could capture of Mercedes at the party in an appropriate spot in the recap. Could Mercedes be Doris' old island friend with the pigtails? Does anybody even care?

Carlos

Carlos- Pigtails girl was named Isabel. So unless the writers also forgot what her name was, it's a different person.

With these writers, they may very well have forgotten her name. Doris is friends with Mercedes too.

Thanks Vivi... Isabel?

Oh well, just trying to spark a little interest and enthusiasm for the show. I was hoping for some dark motive behind keeping us from clearly seeing her face or hearing her speak. Maybe it's cheaper if she doesn't have a speaking part or good face time.

Isabel?... drat!

Next!

Carlos

Maybe Gidget goes by her middle name...Mercedes....Isabel Gidget Mercedes Something. At any rate, Al is evidently a cad who is willing to marry her for her $ and then pursue Mari on the side. HAHAHA...someone should let him know that Mari is not so easily had . Hey, Boyo, just ask the eight other guys in line ahead of you . Is anyone else getting a BoyToyRoy vibe from Alphie ?

Susanlynn- He also wants Doris on the side. The boy likes to have a lot of side options. I don't think she'll be easy either. He couldn't have picked two more difficult women to court. Or is it the fact that both MC and Doris have had a taste of Tav, they can't settle for anything else?

Carlos- I thought you might be sad to hear that the actor who played Fafy Cuenca in Querida Enemiga (Juan Peláez), has just died. He was 64. The list of the tns he was in is quite long, and include a few others that have been recapped in recent years on Caray Caray. But Fafy was definitely his most memorable recent role. I know Fafy held a special place in your heart, as an older dude who managed to attain the companionship of hot young bad girls-- Sara specifically.

Vivi, that is indeed bad news. He was one of my very favorite minor (I'm sure that Sebastián QE would disagree with that classification) characters. To say I identify with him would be an understatement... in my dreams I am Fafy Cuenca. We should definitely have a proper wake here at Caray Caray. I'm sure that Julie will be saddened, here is her notification of his first death.

Every time I see the Dos Equis ads using the world's most interesting man I think of Fafy QEPD.

Carlos

Carlos, Thanks for being one of the talented recappers who have kept me watching this nonsense. My favorite part was about Miguel resting in Peace until the bulldozers dig him up. I was thinking the same thing. And how stupid do you have to be to go to Mexico City in search of someone without and address or phone number? And who is watching little Miguel while Octavio is working and partying? Was this explained and I missed it?

5 CATS

A quote from Julie:

"What do you mean, you've never heard of Fafy Cuenca? Let me tell you about my good friend Fafy Cuenca. He was the king of the jet set... the world-famous playboy. He once climbed Mt. Everest with nothing but a sweater and a pair of nail clippers. He invented sliced bread.

Ever have chocolate and peanut butter mixed together? That was Fafy Cuenca's idea. Donald Trump lost most of his hair in a bet with Fafy Cuenca - that's why he combs his hair over now. Fafy Cuenca taught Captain Kirk how to beat the Kobayashi Maru. He blew up the Death Star with a well-aimed spitball. He gave martial arts advice to Chuck Norris.

Fafy Cuenca will be missed.

Carlos

Thanks 5 CATS,

and welcome. I hope you join the conversation here often.

"Carlos, Thanks for being one of the talented recappers who have kept me watching this nonsense."

I'm not sure that my colleagues and I should feel flattered... or ashamed for being enablers.

Seriously, I hope that you stick with us... we've come this far...

Carlos

The gringo is back but I don't think that I have anything earth shaking to add to what has already been said.

I did like the Miguel bulldozer comment. I don't think that anything is save---not even a grave site when gold is or might be involved. RIP Miguel, well maybe not so much. There's gold in them thar hills.

Anonymous gave the rankings from TV y Novelas which didn't even have CI listed. I have absolutamente no faith in anything that magazine says. After they COMPLETELY ignored Susana Gonzalez for the great Oscar Potential acting that she did in La Que No Podia Amor. That was criminal, I will never forget that.---IDMb has Corazon Indomable ranked #2 out of 30 novelas, so you can find surveys that are all over the place. Who cares what a survey, or a critic
says, I LOVE it and for me---that's all that counts.

A BoyToyRoy vibe? Susanlynn, it's time to LOL. No vibes for Alphie. It doesn't look like Alphie is getting vibes from anyone, they're all running from him.

Yes another strange rich family,
OMG! Does money do that to people?

Mercedes and her pigtails to a dress up party? She had her head down the whole time. How do they say it, shrinking violet? She must
not have any self confidence and as a result, is extremely shy.

Carlos---The pigtail friend of Doris in the picture you posted had dark brown hair -- Mercedes has lighter brown hair.

I was a little disappointed Friday
night. I was expecting a cat fight, not necessary a physical one but at least some strong words and what happened??? I guess
that we will have to stay tuned for a Doris Maricruz showdown.

Octavio and the goddess were so near and yet so far. If one would just turn around. Two ships passing in the night? They did this in Amores Verdaderos. Remember when Francisco was in Nuevo York searching for Nikki? The same thing, two ships passing in the night only it wasn't night in that one.

Well if One Cell finds the goddess
to soon---well that could be a problema. We have to let things play out a little first.

You guys are so annoyed how all the men chase after Maricruz. Well she's a goddess what do you expect? I was laughing Friday when One Cell had three women chasing him. No comments on that one??? Hey, it goes both ways. Octavio stops them in their tracks
Wouldn't it be interesting if the black haired model and Doris get in it over El Capitan?
the gringo

gringo, the difference between Maricruz and Octavio in that respect, Maricruz has recognized, embraced, and exploited her sex appeal while Octavio has seemed to be... well... almost oblivious.

Carlos

YES---5 CATS, I was thinking that same thing, I just forgot to mention it. I mean, Maricruz was
"SUCH A TERRIBLE UNFIT MOTHER" My
God, it's a miracle that the child authorities didn't take Lupita away from her. BAD MARI, BAD MARI, BAD MARI!!! So where is little Miguelito, with a babysitter, in day care? He wasn't in Octavio's hotel room. Where are all the Bleeding Hearts
that wanted to crucify Maricruz now??????????????????????????????
Did little Miguelito get his "required" 15 minutes?????????
the gringo

Carlos, I really enjoyed your recap and the photo captions. "We call it the outdoors.." highlighted that very strange hotel room.

I was away from home for two road trips/2 days, so only now get to settle down and enjoy all the comments and the recap.

"Yep, I've attended this same party myself... wayyy too many times." Spoken like a man with experience.

I am both angry and disappointed not to see the face of Mercedes. The pigtails, shawl, and immature mannerisms were intriguing--I want to see the entire package that is going to be sacrificed to our boastful womanizer.

No need to worry about Doris, on the other hand. She was able to deliver some professional put-downs to our artistic Don Juan.

Thanks Paloma,

I hope that your trips were enjoyable. Maybe with two whole hours again tomorrow they'll have time to introduce us to Mercedes. She almost looked out of place at that party with the pigtails and shawl.

Carlos

Thanks for that link to Julie's recap on Fafy Cuenca's death, Carlos. The whole episode (as recounted by Julie) was fabulous. One of her best pieces of writing (she also did an outstanding job on Pasión).

I'm wondering if they're going to pull one of those hat tricks with Mercedes where she undergoes a makeover and morphs from a gawky ugly girl to a goddess. They're already pulled that one with Simona but repetition doesn't seem to be a problem for these writers and this director.

Carlos, Thanks for delightful recap. As usual it was wonderful as were the captioned pictures. I laughed over the "STFU" and "We forgot your violin" but really snickered about Lupita, Outdoors and "you may get to go there".

I have to admit I'm behind. I haven't finished this episode and now we have a week of double episodes? Oh nooo!

Sorry, I know it's been talked about, but I'm still stuck on MC's hotel room in the lobby. I'm thinking she must be getting this room for free and the hotel is presenting her little family as performance art. Otherwise, why not CLOSE THE CURTAINS? Camila in AB had an inability to do this as well. Is this a "skill" not taught children in Mexico?

Thanks to all the recappers for what they've done and are about to go through….

Barbara

Thanks Barbara,

like you and probably everyone else here, I'm baffled by that hotel room. We've seen people passing by as well as people sitting and apparently eating and drinking within inches of that window. Maybe there's a one-way glass in that window.

If you use your fast forward, it shouldn't take long at all to catch up. I'm glad that you are enjoying my photos and captions.

Judy, do you remember Milagros from Dinero? Now there was a real makeover for a girl with pigtails. Here they didn't exactly hide Mercedes from us but they certainly didn't exactly introduce her to us either. Were I her, this engagement would already be over after that party. Alfonso just isn't all that pretty for her to put up with his boorishness.

Carlos

Still relatively new to the genre, but I am tired of the "pigtail look". Maybe it is a cultural thing.

Jarifa

I know that no one cares but it was mentioned and I can't stop thinking about it---no beer in jail. This guy as well as his brother did their very best to boost beer sales in Mexico. I guess that the death of his brother bothered him more than we will ever know or will ever care but it's going to be a long dry spell for Nazario because there is no beer in jail. Water?

So much to look forward to tonight
Will there be an unveiling of Mercedes? --- A fight between old rivals Doris and Maricruz. The latest in the adventures of Alphie
and I'm sure that there will be something new that the writers will "bless" us with.

For those with holes in there memories, Carlos and others. You know the Lupita fanatics---Will Lupita ever see the outside??????
Remember, I know that it's hard, cotton candy in the park by the fountain? I think---not sure, but that might be considered the outside. Oh! that was a couple of days ago. So now are the Lupita fanatics counting the days? What's next, minutes?
the gringo

Maybe another call to the Child Welfare Services will be needed to suffice for the bleeding heart liberals. What do you say. POOOOR
Lupita has been treated soooooo terribly that maybe she should just be taken from Maricruz---with AR15 assault rifles if necessary. A foster home is for sure what Lupita needs.
the gringo

Or maybe we should blame the damn
writers. They didn't take the "required" 15 minutes of air time to show Maricruz frolicking with Lupita outside of the hotel in the DF.
the gringo

Carlos, as usual you were on a roll!! Your captions were especially a hoot. My favs were "(Poor Thing, She Thinks I Actually Care.)" and "Wow! Look At All The Pretty Unicorns.".

If only our main characters in CI had more than one brain cell..they would realize to use phones to contact each other. Sigh. Doris is back? Yay...never thought I would welcome her back. And now we have a new guy...Alonso? How many guys are going to fall in Luurve with MC before this is over.

Great job with the recap despite the two hours.

I think all Mercedes needs is a makeover by MC...of course if Tav runs into his flight attendant friend she can help too. Just don't let her remove any moles that could changer her into a cray cray.

One way glass! That must be it! That's why no one ever seems to sneak a peek at them doing Lupita's hair or reading in bed. Carlos, I'm convinced you are right.

Barbara

Thanks CeCe,

have we ever heard Maricruz ask Juanita what her hopes and aspirations are? Have we ever heard her ask her to go shopping or even out for a walk? What does Juanita do on her day off? Does she even get a day off? Does she have family?

I guess Maricruz's happiness is her happiness... or is it?

Carlos

Carlos, if having that conversation with Juanita means dragging this show out with more episodes, then I don't want to know anything about her.

gringo, is the painting all done? Be sure and leave the windows open for a bit to allow those residual paint fumes to escape.

cathyx, heh heh.

Carlos

Why yes, Carlos y Cathyx---After
Child Protective Services take Lupita away from Maricruz so that she can find out what fresh air is, we can start in on Juanita. Hey! A few more episodes wouldn't hurt, right? Can this get any more ridiculous? Oh! and maybe Child Protective Services can locate little Miguelito. I think that he is wondering around the city, he's not in Octavio's hotel room.
the gringo

Caraymates: I've got a last minute emergency board meeting tonight, so I will be home late. Tonight's recap will be up late and will be bare bones/bullets. I apologize in advance.

Carlos: A great LOL reading session. The captions were to die for as usual. Tks!

Carlos:

I love your captions and commentary. I also love the way that you bait Gringo to make another response. And I love seeing Gringo's responses.

Gringo, I have no beef with the quality of childcare in this novela, and Juanita is too old for the need of their services.

Thanks Jardinera and Aleta,

Jardinera, you always manage to make me smile so I'm delighted that I can reciprocate.

Aleta, I always look forward to your comments and I'm glad that you enjoy my efforts.

Carlos

Does anyone know if there is an episode on Thanksgiving day?

Cathyx, I checked the channel guide on my phone and it looks like there is an episode on Thanksgiving day.

Carlos, thanks for the wonderful recap.

Vivi, I am sure your recap will be great tomorrow even if it is just bullets. I look forward to it.

Gringo, you crack me up.

Caryn

Caryn,

Thanks and you're very welcome.

Carlos

Ahh...Fafy Cuenca...my very favorite telenovela name ever. and a happy, merry Fafy Cuenca to all of you.
