Corazón Indomable #124 Fri 11/1/13☆ It's Past Time That Another Star Shines In My Sky
And what better way to set the stage for tonight's murky presentation than to borrow an edited quote from La Paloma's brilliant recap of Thursday's episode?
"Tav is ... thinking. (Always a laborious process, bless his heart.)"
And these words that he utters out loud may be the most illuminating you'll hear tonight.
"Where Did This Show Go So Very Wrong?" |
"My God, I'm going to go crazy with this situation."
You are speaking for all of us, lad... you are speaking for all of us...
So the rest of you who are left watching this with us, grab a shot of Tequila, pop a Xanax if that's your style, and hang on tight. This will definitely hurt a bit, but we'll try to move more rapidly than usual to minimize your suffering.
We quickly are transported to the drawing room of Rancho Abuelo (formerly Rancho Narváez) to eavesdrop on a conversation between José Antonio and Maricruz Olivarez, who is fiddling with her daughter Lupita's hair (I suspect, being the vigilant mom that she is, inspecting for nits).
It Looks As Though Someone Has Already Had Her Afternoon Benadryl ♪ |
He asks Maricruz if she is indeed going to wed Engineer Alvaro Cifuentes and she confirms that right now it is pretty much her plan. He scoffs,
"Seriously?"
In their bedroom Octavio is consulting with Simona. He laments the recent abduction of his daughter, Simona does not. In fact she has a new plan that is sure to work and insists,
"...because, now it's I who want my son to have his sister with him and he will have that."
At the other ranch, JoséAntonio offers his help in preventing a new abduction attempt by,
"...Octavio..."
"Shhh..."
She shushes him in front of the little one who seems lost in her own Benadryl bliss. She tells him of precautions they are taking to prevent a repeat kidnapping including bars on the windows, even so, she doesn't believe that Octavio would try again. José A agrees.
Octavio and Simona continue, she thinks they need to rescue Lupita from this thoughtless, fickle (veleidosa... well, at least I learned a nifty and useful new word tonight), bad-intentioned woman. Octavio balks but Simona rebuts,
"Well, we'll do it for your daughter who needs a better future."
As José rides home he considers that since Maricruz will likely never be for him, what with first Octavio and now that engineer, he might as well take this opportunity that Miguel has offered that will make him rich,
"It's lots of easy money."
Then he says this... (I don't really quite understand what he's talking about.)
"Later I'll be able to acquire more from the Narváez, as much as I want for hiding their secret. That secret that they carefully guard and wish for no one to learn."
Simona drones on. Now she is asking him if he wants to leave his daughter in the clutches of a stepdaddy.
"Please Make Her Go Away!" |
She's seems to be effectively guilting him.
Good times outdoors at Rancho Abuelo. Juanita plays with Lopita as Santa and Maricruz discuss a party that Solita wants to have to celebrate the wedding of officer Vargas. Santa didn't even know that Solita knew him (nor did I). Maricruz tells her that he was nice to Solita once. Well of course, that explains it. Santa worries about the cost but Maricruz tells her that the neighbor ladies will all chip in and help. Besides, Maricruz explains,
"We can't forget that soon there won't be anyone left because we all have to leave."
In the mining company office some guy named Carillo complains to Valdés that it's taking too long to clear the people off the land. Valdés explains that the people are represented by the Requelme law firm which is formidable. Carillo's solution sounds simple enough, hire the law firm themselves,
"Cut off the head of the snake. Next!" (He really didn't say "Next!" but it fits.)
Miguel and José A stroll and discuss the details of the next abduction. JA wants Octavio to actually pick her up and take her out since he's the daddy. Since Maricruz trusts JA, he'll be able to let Octavio in,
"He's the papá and the law protects him."
Simona comes in and tells Octavio that even now, Miguel is discussing the plan with JA. Need I mention that Octavio doesn't want this and that Simona is thirsting for revenge? Thought not. Heck, at this point Octavio is wanting to forget the whole thing and take that trip to Europe that Simona's been pushing for.
Maricruz, Santa, and Solita are giggling together as they select a pretty dress for Solita to wear to the party so that Perico will think that she's pretty, cover her in kisses, and get her pregnant.
"(As Long As I Get To Boink Perico)" |
OK, I added that last bit but does anyone doubt that is what is sure to happen? Thought not.
Abelardo Ponce is sitting in his wheelchair wheezing and coughing as Nilda scampers in with his medicines. In case you are wondering who the heck these people are, She is Solita's birth mother who married this sick guy so that when he dies she'll inherit all his money and she can go search for her daughter (Solita) whom she abandoned many years ago. ¿Captas? They are now my favorite couple because they have such an honest relationship. He knows that she wants him to die, the only thing he doesn't know is why she wants his fortune. We'll get back to them in a tick.
Miguel and JA are firming up plans. Wedding is Saturday. JA asks,
"Does don Octavio agree?"
Miguel tells him that if Simona wants it then so will Octavio. JA wants assurance that it'll be Octavio who grabs the kid.
Meanwhile Simona insists to Octavio that he participate.
More girl talk. Santa has doubts. Maricruz responds,
"Who would be bold enough to separate her from her first and only love?"
Seriously, that's what she said.
Solita is giddy at the prospect of some grownup clothes and lots of parakeet kisses. Out of he blue, Santa asks,
"Where could this child's mother be?"
I'm so glad you asked, let's join her and her rich sickly husband right now and listen in,
"I'm not capable of planning anyone's death."
"But you tried to rob me."
"But that's different. I needed money for powerful reasons."
"You no longer need it?"
"Each day even more desperately."
"Then you'll try again to rob me and take my money in some other fashion."
"¡Por favor, forget that!"
"Forget it? If we were in equal conditions I'd forget it, but you're free and I'm chained to this wheelchair. I hate that you're healthy, Nilda."
"I wish that could trade places with you, Abelardo, but you can't blame me for your illness. You were sick when I met you."
"Yes, I know that for a number of years that I have had heart problems and I married you so I wouldn't be alone."
"And I appreciate that very much."
"You are already safe, Nilda, I already made my will leaving you everything but don't get the idea of killing me because my last stipulation is that if my death looks suspicious that there be an autopsy and following that you'll be sent to prison. Heh heh." (I didn't add the heh heh.)
"Get It? I'll be Autopsied And You'll Go To Prison. Sometimes I Crack Myself Up." |
It's healthy that couples be able to communicate so freely with each other.
Meanwhile Maricruz is hoping that Solita's mother shows up. I know I'm certainly looking forward to it.
"Ay, for God's sake Abelardo."
"It's the way to obligate you to look after me till the end."
"But, I'd care for you even if you were to live another 50 years."
"But I'm not even going to live half that." (And I'd bet that he won't.)
"I have affection for you, Abelardo, even though you don't believe it."
"My loneliness is much less by your side. You'll receive a good amount for having been with me."
He takes her hand and asserts,
"Have patience and you'll be repaid, have patience, Nilda."
José A thinks that even though he shouldn't do this, everything's gonna be OK. Heck he'll return the kid later and gain Maricruz's gratitude.
As she serves Simona her tea, even Ofelia thinks this whole abduction thing is a bad idea.
"Then I Said, 'So's Your Monkey'... I Guess You Had To Be There..." |
Outside Octavio and Miguel chat. Miguel reminds him that this was originally Octavio's own idea. Octavio wonders if Miguel has told Simona about the gravity of her condition. We wonder why this keeps dragging on and on and on and....
Simona tells Ofelia that she's willing to spend her last dollar to punish Maricruz.
Miguel reminds Octavio that Simona will soon die... problem solved.
Back at Rancho Abuelo, Maricruz tells Juanita that she needn't worry, there will be no more abduction attempts. Juanita will keep Lupita indoors anyway. No vitamin D for you, Lupita.
Alone, Simona accepts that she is dying but takes comfort in knowing that Maricruz and Octavio will never be together,
" ...even though my flesh rots and my bones turn to dust..."
I think that's chilling enough to warrant a... Yikes!
José Antonio drops by to annoy Maricruz and confirms that the Vargas wedding is Saturday. Maricruz is semi-excited about the whole thing. He tells her that even though he and Ester and their yet to be named twerplet are now living on Simona's ranch, he doesn't actually work for them,
"I don't want to be their peón."
He fills her in,
"Ey, don Mguel now is boss and runs things and don Octavio spends all his time in the house beneath la Señora Simona's skirts."
He asks how things are with the engineer and she replies,
"Fine, I've decided to marry him."
Octavio paces and frets about this plan using José A's position of trust with Maricruz to snatch his daughter and at least for now thinks that over all it's best for everyone.
Maricruz tells José A that her wedding to Alvaro will be sometime after the expropriation of the ranch. He asks if she loves Alvaro.
"One might say so. It's past time that another star shines in my sky."
Alvaro is out in the field doing whatever it is that he does when he receives word that he is being transferred. He must go and talk with Maricruz.
José Antonio notes that Maricruz marrying won't set well with Octavio and since he is such an idiot he asks her,
"If you're thinking of marrying, why not give the little girl to her father?"
This gives Maricruz the opportunity to snap at him and remind us,
"The little girl is mine, es mía, understand? And no one else has any right to her, no one else."
Well, I know that I for one am glad she cleared that up for us.
Octavio gazes at his wedding ring as we are treated to his black and white memories of a few of the good (and bad) times with Maricruz.
Alvaro shares the news of his transfer with Maricruz and offers to stay and help her fight. She tells him to accept the transfer.
"Must You Always Bring Along That Tuba?" |
JA went home to change shirts, freshen up his deodorant, and give Ester an opportunity to accuse him of seeing another woman.
Regarding Alvaro and that transfer... Maricruz insists, Alvaro resists, and finally she tells him to follow his heart but whatever he decides won't mean much in the long run.
JA offers Ester a kiss. She pushes him away. He leaves and she muses,
He's become a man that I no longer know. How is it possible for ambition to corrupt one who was once so naive, noble, and natural?"
She's unhappy with the way things have turned out. I'm expecting they'll get even worse, sweetie.
While he's willing to bet it all on his future with her, Maricruz gives Alvaro a little dose of reality.
"I don't know if I'll be able to respond to your sacrifices in the way you deserve. Am I being clear?"
As the tuba inexplicably intrudes on this scene he replies,
"I understand, Maricruz, I understand perfectly."
Looks like it's Saturday. Padre Julián advise Alvaro to accept the transfer. Not exactly what Alvaro needed to hear. He needs to be needed, but as needy as he is, he's not really needed here. Need I explain further?
JA and Miguel stroll and firm up plans. If we needed (sorry) further proof that this is a special day, please note that José Antonio is wearing a shirt with sleeves. After JA dashes off, Miguel takes a moment to gloat,
"I'm doing all this to please Simona, but after she's dead, I'll make Octavio return his daughter to the wild girl so he can go off with her if he wishes. Then I'll be lord and master of all this land."
OK, we all despise Miguel but at least he has all his priorities straight.
Since we're all over the place in this episode, why not this? Lina (remember the little blind girl that Ester has bonded with and taken in?) is sleeping soundly as a menacing hand extends toward her threateningly.
Hold It Right There, Buster! That's Our Lina! |
Never mind.
Don't worry it's just her worthless daddy (whose actually cleaned up rather nicely) reaching out to caress her hair as she sleeps peacefully. She doesn't wake up but a faint smile appears at her lips.
Ester is reading Topaz by Leon Uris. Lina's dad chats with her about his daughter. She's been running fever. Ester explains that it's melancholia brought on by puberty and the absence of her father in her life. They'll check with doctors and she'll pay for it... Next!
After a commercial Miguel confers with Simona. The plan is to stash Lupita someplace away from the main house on the edge of the ranch. I'm beginning to think that tumor may be adversely affecting Simona's mind. She expects very soon Maricruz will fall at her feet in humiliation.
Amador, Lina's dad, and Ester fill up more time with inane conversation about how Lina needs her father's presence in her life at this critical pubaceous time. Well, as long as it doesn't cost anything, he's willing.
Simona tells Miguel that she has a trump card that assures that Octavio will do whatever she requests and then flits away leaving Miguel to ponder what I've already suggested,
"Could that tumor be causing her to lose her mind? What could be the recourse that she has that will obligate Octavio. What could you be plotting, Simona?"
Octavio bounds in and Miguel implores him not to go along with whatever Simona is planning to do with Lupita.
Maricruz, Alvaro, Padre Julián, and Lupita, her untamable hair gathered up in cute little doggy ears, are gathered in the drawing room which has been set up for the wedding.
JA struts in and lifts up poor Lupita. Maricruz looks wary. Lupita looks oblivious. José Antonio looks menacing. Everyone else looks confused.
"Will Somebody Please Help Me Here?!" |
After the commercial, Maricruz retrieves Lupita but JA looking crazed (are we the only ones who see this?) demands to hold her. Maricruz wisely takes her away.
"Where Am I And Who Are All These Strange People?" |
Alvaro excuses himself as Padre Julián tries to look busy. José Antonio manages to look creepy and suspicious. Awkward silence here.
"How 'Bout That New Pope?" |
Miguel still thinks it's a bad idea to go along with Simona's plan to stash the kid in another house on the ranch. Really?
Maricruz returns from upstairs and JA asks permission to roam about the premises. He has fond memories of this place. Sure. Off he goes, Alvaro returns, and Maricruz excuses herself to go make herself pretty for the party. Alvaro doesn't see how she could be even prettier than she is but off she goes anyway as the tuba follows her upstairs.
Miguel and Octavio continue agonizing over Simona's plans and are joined by Simona herself. She reveals her strategy... the last request of a dying woman. ♪DUNG! (Meant to represent an ominous bell tolling but feel free to take it however you wish.)
José Antonio is skulking. Santa is spying, then calls out,
"Looking for something?"
"Uhhh... Just Lookin' Around... That's It... Just Lookin' Around." |
Simona gets the last word tonight,
"I've nothing against the little girl, that would be inhumane and cruel if I made the child a victim in taking revenge to satisfy my hate for her mother."
Octavio is glad to hear that.
However, Simona insists on sequestering Lupita away from the house.
"I know that I have very little time remaining and I'm going to take advantage of it to satisfy my vengeance against Maricruz Olivares."
"Don't I Know You From Somewhere?" |
Don't you think that calls for one final...
♪ DUNG! ?

Anonymous---Friday 11/1 3:58 Your Maricruz and Oblivio El Fin Conversation was so, so, funny--I'm
still laughing.
Alegria---"I think that MC is one of the best mothers that I saw in a novela." I totally agree with you. The comments that came in day after day about what a poor unfit mother Maricruz was, were actually mind boggling and so totally ridiculous. There were other things to center the story on other than Lupita and so, Lupita didn't get her "required" 15 minutes a night.
Vida2---Have no fear. I am this shows BIGGEST FAN and will always sit at MC's table, [we'll sit there together] Tav's too but he will have to make a BIG U TURN first.---I don't know how CI will end, I just know that it's going to get a lot crazier. Even if things don't go as I would like them to, [I want Mari to keep the ranch but it looks like that isn't going to happen] when it comes down to the finish line, I will be standing right on that line cheering the loudest of all.
the gringo
You also used one of my favorite words in the English language: "skulking"! That is a word that is not used enough these days even though the action is still all too common.
There was a time I was really enjoying CI but at the present it is all so goofy and harebrained there is not much to do but make fun of it. As the tuba music fades into the distance; as Perico puts the moves on Solita (I agree she will probably be pregnant with baby #2 before long); as Nilda discovers her long lost daughter; as Octavio and Maricruz drive each other crazy ad infinitum; all I know is that all of this suffering should be over during the holidays. Maybe even before Xmas!
Jarifa
If anyone is fickle, I think it's the writers. They have no interest in consistency. I don't think it's monkeys anymore, I think there's a relative of the producers who needed a job and was put in a room to write, with no qualifications and minimal instructions.
Many of our characters should be wearing flip-flops to signify their consistency or lack thereof.
Speaking of wearing, it's nice that Solita gets to wear a pretty dress. How about unfastening her pigtails and putting her hair in a nice updo? If not that, just clip back or braid the hair at her temples and let it flow long.
It seemed to me that Tav's b&w flashbacks were mostly guilt inducing ones. He could stand to feel a little guilt for the Narvaez' careless and cruel treatment of MC.
Did I hear correctly? Does Simona actually blame MC for her tumor? Or just for upsetting her and stirring up things?
If Lupi is put in an isloated cabin, who will take care of her? Will she just replicate MC's marginal childhood?
Yes, JA did indeed give out a creepy vibe as he cased the joint. MC needs to take a hard look at him.
Abelard and Nilda--another couple in need of work? I want both him and Simona to die quickly. This TN is making me a not nice person.
So, Alvaro hits the road, with his tuba tagging along. He can enjoy his sweet memories and maybe carve a little statuette of MC.
Jarifa, except for that strangely linear and coherent conversation the Ponces shared, there really wasn't a lot of drama to capture was there? I find it amusing that the Simona gang is plotting a kidnapping at a police officer's wedding. Gee, what could possibly go wrong?
Paloma, indeed you're right, Simona blames Maricruz for the presence of her tumor, and is now wanting payback. Also it's interesting that Alvaro is Vargas' best man. I don't recall them ever meeting. Maybe around the same time he became Solita's BFF. I wonder if we know the bride?
José Antonio cracked me up by his attempts to just act naturally. Now that was funny.
Carlos
Carlos
And I don't know if that were good surprises or bad.
Alegria
Gringo - Yes, I just finished watching the episode. DRAMA!
I must say, Simona is really freaking me out! I think there is no telling what this woman may do.
Caryn
Thanks Caryn. I'm so glad that you're enjoying the show and if I manage to crack you up... then so much the better.
Anon, welcome and thanks for your input. I hope you realize that part of the fun of recapping and commenting is finding loose threads and pulling at them to see if there's some unraveling. I think none of us are mean-spirited or mean any harm in pointing out the foibles and flaws of our characters. I'm sure that you recognize that every recap is a labor of love.
Carlos
So it seems the director is feeding Benadryl to 2-3 yr old Lupita, like they did to 1 1/2 year old Miguelito. I saw in yesterday's conversation about the Lupita actress, it was mentioned that she was on the set when they were filming at 4am!? Is that legal?! Can't they figure out how to film her very few scenes during the daytime?
I do agee that it is very hard to direct a 1-4 year old child. They just don't obey direction well at that age, and can't tune out all the equipment and extra people. You have to have a special director for children on set to get something good out of such young children. This is for sure why baby Lupita was in a time warp for so long and stuck at age 5-8 months when she was supposed to be 1 and 2 years old.
Still not watching, but am enjoying the recaps of these crazy, inconsistent characters and their dumb choices.
Aleta, I doubt that Lupita is being drugged but she certainly seems to be drowsy a good bit of the time. By the way, thanks for the link to the Texas accents site. Lots of familiar speech patterns discussed that made me smile.
Vivi, I'm not sure which would be worse, keeping kids up late like that or drugging them. I'm certain that either is illegal in USA and doubt that either is legal in Mexico as well.
I'm guessing that directing children is even more difficult than working with animals.
Carlos
One more thing. I also mentioned that she was very shy. So may be all the scenes we saw were filmed in the first days of working, and she was confused. And I'm realy sure, that director asked her to be quite. They needed to film hundreds scenes in a little time to end in time. Ana Brenda even was in hospital, but had to escape and work. So it were hard times even for adults. The girl looked very active on the off-screen videos and fotos.
Alegria
I know this often happens but you would think the writers would feel badly having characters make a statement and then say the completely opposite thing in the next scene or within the same scene if you are poor Tav.
I agree with La Paloma about Solita needing to lose the pig tails.
Hoping that Lupita is just tried.
Thanks La Paloma and cathyx for your recaps. You both were hilarious.
I don't mind those pigtails so much though I wish that we'd get more character development for her rather than this lovesick for Perico thing. I'm truly interested in seeing what her mom brings to the story.
gringo, I kept expecting to hear more from you today which is why I haven't responded to your comment before now. I hope you are well and that we'll be hearing more from you soon. I agree with you that Anon's Octavio/Maricruz conversation was spot on hilarious.
Carlos
Thank you so very much for this splendid recap! You are the man of the screencaps and the captions under them! Thanks so much.
I mainly watch now for the decisions of the lame brained $imona, GreedyMigi and One Cell. Sometimes Maricruz joins in bad decisions (Sorry Gringo). Every night when I watch there is a 380 degree turn by each of the characters, they couldn't make a decision if their life depended on it, oh wait, that would be $imona wouldn't it, sorry, had to add that. I too think she'll want to shuffle Lupita off to one of those little cabins on her ranch and will promptly forget about her. She hates that child as much as she hates Maricruz, I don't care what she says.
If only they had gone to see the Wizard and gotten a brain. One can hope, can't one, hmmmm.......
Like Karen and Madelaine pointed out, the complete turn around of each actor saying one thing, and then the next lines or scenes they say the complete opposite is mind boggling. And it's happening continuously now. I beginning to think that all the recappers need to do is watch the last 10 minutes to see where the characters stand at the end of that show and that will be where it will continue for the next recapper. Or maybe we can start counting the number of flip flops occur per character per episode.
We have Octavio being for the kidnapping and against it.
Miguel being for the kidnapping and then against it. For hiding Lupita away and then against it.
JA being for the kidnapping and then wanting to alert Octavio and MC.
Octavio saying that Lupita needs to be away from her hussy mother and then says she needs to be with her mother.
MC being for the marriage and then maybe not.
Alvaro for wanting to transfer and then maybe staying instead.
Alvaro claiming that he is willing to lose his job over helping MC, now he's considering transferring away from her and will be leaving MC.
Ester hating MC and wanting to harm her and then now wanting to protect her from another kidnapping.
Vargas not wanting to get involved with retrieving Lupita from Simona's and then going there to retrieve Lupita.
And I won't even bother to mention the back and forth love hate between Octavio and MC.
Since when did Solita have any meeting with Vargas, and now she wants to host the wedding. That's too funny people!
Does our newest Galan actor realize what a train wreck this is and wants to leave this mess ASAP?
I have never heard of an adolescent being so depressed that it causes fevers. Maybe a trip to the doctors might be a good idea.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWqOp1OFNOQ
I'm sure you will like her accent and her dimpling.
I can't understand this, but a lot of very and very famous actors participated in CI. Even if it was for a few scenes.
Alegria
"Where Did This Show Go So Very Wrong?" HEE LAREE US!!!
"It's healthy that couples be able to communicate so freely with each other."
"How 'Bout That New Pope?"
I just stop by your captions and it is worth it every time. :-)
Ok, for the actual plot--when I can't believe it gets any stupider, darn it it doesn't prove me wrong. Talk about not being able to find the words.
And for the dialog, who talks like this? I'm beginning to think either this is the worst case of teleplay writing ever, or the RatPack is sitting in the conference room and actually trying to see how far they can go in making these actors sound ridiculous. I would love to see the out-takes--the eye-rolling and crack ups by the actors have to be wonderful to behold.
I've not been a fan of how the characters treat the kids in this show, but seeing little Lupita sit there in that scene disturbed me in wondering what goes on in real life. I'm hoping she was just tired and bored. In the U.S., I know the preference is to use twins in most shows so they can switch the little ones and stay under a certain amount of hours on set ( I think it's four for under 14.) Not sure of that in Latina American child actor policy.
Simona needs to have that blood clot burst soon before she does anything else loopy. I would say it amazes me anyone takes her seriously...but not in this TN.
Daisynjay
And ah, those captions... I'm a fan, like Cynderella.
Favorites:
"Please make her go away."
"Get it? I'll be autopsied. And you'll go to prison. Sometimes I crack myself up!"
"Must you always bring along that tuba?"
"How 'bout that new Pope?"
The latter is my personal favorite. I've asked Catholic friends that question a number of times. Reactions are mixed. But I think he's great! Love his emphasis on mercy, forgiveness and helping the poor. We need him in this show!
Thank you Carlos for a wonderful recap. "Where Did This Show Go So Very Wrong?" Indeed, indeed. Thanks for last Fiday's recap as well - it brightened my stressful Sunday as I sat stuck in the Phoenix airport trying to return to CA.
And thank you to the Gringo for being such an avid and optimistic supporter of this crazy TN! This is the first time I have EVER wanted that the two main peeps DO NOT get together in the end! I'm rooting for Alvaro. Don't like Sergio Goyri as a bad guy but find him quite agreeable as a good guy. And this is still not the worst TN I've watched....
Also, thanks Aleta for the Ana Brenda interview in English.
There must be another 40 or so capitulos remaining so my simple math tells me that we have about 8 weeks to go. Should "ultimas semanas" begin this week?
"Sometimes Maricruz joins in bad decisions..."
which of course makes her endearing as well as at times extremely exasperating, especially as all too often she doesn't seem to learn from past mistakes. However, she may be the one character whose frequent vacillations actually make sense in the context of who and what she is.
Carlos
Carlos, I am just going to say it ...you are a wonderful spirit. I love your sense of humor..so good natured and clever. I take each of your recaps as a reminder not to take this show...or myself ....too seriously but rather with a sense of humor . You are creating a masterpiece of this messy show. What fun this show has become in the hands of all our talented recappers.
Let me comment on Dr. Ester who seems to think that she is qualified to diagnose Lina's ennui. What ? maybe you should get a second opinion from..ohh...let's say...a real doctor. However, I thought that she was right on the money with those three adjectives describing the old Jose Antonio before he turned into Jackass..."noble, naive, and natural." So what happened??? Does he have a brain tumor, too ? Latent adolescent angst ? Que? Watching Santa skulking around watching Jackass skulking around was funny.
I am starting to wonder if Miguel is just starting to enjoy his walks in the countryside with the JackAss, so he has to keep thinking up new schemes to see him. Bromance ?????
I so welcome your enumeration of examples of glaring inconsistencies as undeniable evidence of how maddening this TN has been for anyone trying to make any sense at all of this whole thing. I think that it reflects a lack of pride on the part of everyone involved. As we've lamented here so many times... so much incredible potential and promise has been squandered.
Carelessness? Neglect? What a pity.
Carlos
I think you know how much I enjoy your irreverent and sometimes slightly naughty wry sense of humor. I'm flattered that you find amusement at some of my offeriings.
Carlos
Daisynjay,
"Ok, for the actual plot--when I can't believe it gets any stupider, darn if it doesn't prove me wrong."
And case in point, that last kidnapping went so well, let's just do it over, but this time enlist the aid of that mental giant, José Antonio, and hide the kid in a different place... then to enhance the chance of success let's do it at the wedding of the local cop.
Judy, I hear "in a tick" every day here in Texas, but I recalled Madelaine using it just the other day so I put it in as a little nod in her direction. As I mentioned the other day, doing the photos with the captions is something of a self-indulgent treat for finishing the recap.
Carlos
I've missed you.
"This is the first time I have EVER wanted that the two main peeps DO NOT get together in the end!
I'm with you on this. However, my personal choice would be for the Luv Guv and Doris ("I'm the governor's daughter.") to show up and take our two main peeps
away as their respective spouses.
Carlos
I'm so glad I was able to medicate you a bit this weekend. I'm blushing over your sweet tribute. We've been friends for quite a long time now and I know that I can always count on you to recognize my attempts at injecting a bit of humor into the proceedings.
By the way, our thoughts on Ester and Lina are very much the same. You managed to crack me up with:
"What ? maybe you should get a second opinion from..ohh...let's say...a real doctor."
Carlos
I appreciate,
"...my condolences to all of the recappers for putting up with this show."
Indeed, I'm afraid I waste a bit of valuable recapping effort in trying to give the incoherent some sense of coherence.

I think that if Simona is confronted by Doris, she may realize that compared to Doris, MC isn't so bad.
No Tequila--no Xanax--No it didn't
hurt and no there was no suffering.
Well, you and Jarifa can suffer but I won't be.
and Lupita, her "untamable" hair?
How do you know that her hair is "untamable," have you been combing it or brushing it lately?
Carlos, I think that you have been out in Left Field far too long or you might even still be flying around in that far away galaxy. Come on Carlos---your anniversary has been over for three days now, it's time to come back down to earth---or---maybe, it's your tequila. Try to find one that isn't
as strong. You don't want to end up like Tav do you? You know how he gets when he starts hitting the bottle. Keep it up and you and Tav might become partners.
Aleta---No I haven't heard Ana Brenda using English, thanks for the website.
Not a whole lot to say today---I'm
just enjoying the show and anxiously waiting for Monday 7PM
Jarifa, I just can't wait to
"suffer" Monday night. LOL
the gringo
I’ve decided to make a personal sacrifice and stay with our dear Corazon Indomable to the end.....simply to continue to expand my Spanish language skills. Now I will forever be able to pronounce the tongue twisters, gobernador and ingeniero which could be useful at some point. Secuestro? Hope not!
MC should just look at JA’s stupid black hat and know that he is UP TO NO GOOD! Wake up MC!! There is not a Texan, Tennessean, Mexican, country music star or cowboy worth their salt who would walk around in that silly hat!!!!
I vote for Abismo de Pasión as the worst novela ever. I felt guilty for even participating at Caray by commenting, but stayed, hating to leave the recappers in the lurch.
Susanlynn, stay strong...My friend’s daughter survived a terrible marriage and divorce to eventually find a wonderful guy. I know you’ll need a lot of patience to get through this terrible phase of your daughter’s life. I’m sending peaceful, calming vibes your way.
How great to hear from you and I'm especially glad that you enjoyed my whimsical musing over Alvaro. It was intended to sound nonsensical (I think I was successful in that), be bizarrely poetic (well, I think I accomplished at least the bizarre part), and declare a truth, not just about the character, but the use of this talented actor as well. I think it reached my intended audience.
Like you,
"I’ve decided to make a personal sacrifice and stay with our dear Corazon Indomable to the end..."
or as Bill Clinton once so eloquently and effectively said,
"...until the last dog dies."
I committed to recap every other Friday and by my calculation, I now have three left. I'm hoping not too many more dogs perish between now and then.
I've got to agree about José Antonio's hat. He looks all set to rob a train... or kidnap a curly-haired little girl.
Carlos
as the worst I've ever watched. I got a perverse pleasure from both Abismo de Pasión and El Talismán. I still believe that both were intentionally silly and hilarious. Of course the recappers were top-notch and enough reason to stick with both.
Thanks gringo,
you always say the sweetest things.
Carlos
Judy, when she said it I knew I had my title.
Carlos
Since I recap weekly, I have seven or so to go. I think I luck out with an awards show one week.
Spot on here: "I've got to agree about José Antonio's hat. He looks all set to rob a train... or kidnap a curly-haired little girl."
If CI is not the worst TN I've ever seen, it's certainly the most disappointing.
buddies--you with your tequila and Tav with whatever he has in that bottle.
Sandy in TN---I'm with you on the hat. Just one look and you know. LOL It's true. Don't trust that guy.
I wonder is Angelique will get ripped apart in her new one like she did by the Caray Crowd in Abismo? Loved her doily shorts though.
Maybe Abismo was bad but I'm easy to please, I liked it.
Like all of the commentators, I'm
suffering too. I'm suffering every minute until Monday 7PM When I get my CI vitamins. CI is a great picker upper. GO CI!!!
the gringo
"If CI is not the worst TN I've ever seen, it's certainly the most disappointing."
¡Eso! That's it, the most disappointing. The cast is excellent, the premises are fun, but somehow the execution is lacking. Sloppy writing and directing, sure, but there's an over all attention to detail that is sorely lacking, a palpable carelessness. You'd think that there would be someone on board to watch the finished product of each episode and recommend alterations. I think that some simple thoughtful editing would go a long way to improving this TN. This may be a time when the DVD is better than the original presentation.
I keep meaning to mention this but keep forgetting. We had a definite monkey sighting in this episode. Take another look at the photo with Solita, Santa, and Maricruz captioned "(As Long As I Get To Boink Perico)" and see if you can spot him.
Carlos
As for worst tn, ITA w/Carlos and its this one. It's become painful for me to watch. I try to post to make sure I thank the recappers for their hard work. Thankfully when most bad tns go off the rails, the recaps are excellent.
I know you said one but..El Tal was bad but CC community was so hilarious for that one. You wanted to see the show so you could be in on the numerous laughs the recappers and commenters generated. Truly I think that was one of the funniest tn communities I have been a part of.
Abismo was bad but had moments of fun and another great CC community. And w/Cuidado I must admit I became enthralled with WL. The ridiculous plot and again the CC community made it another fun ride.
As for Duelo, I remember Gaspar (Untouchable! who I think was a wrestler or something). I remember that Sylvia and I had slight crushes on him...those long raven locks...the goofy grin...the overalls ????) . He was a dim bulb but cute, and I was impactada when he drowned at the end. Luba was played by Ana Martin. She chewed up a lot of scenery in her cave cackling about the mysterious cofre of the strange green glow. Pablo Montero was in it. I remember that he could not recognize the heroine (crazy Goyri's unlucky daughter) ......because she had changed her clothes. ..QUE? Vikki from A V played Goyri's wife whom he kept imprisoned ...in her bedroom. I remember that she prayed to the large statue of the virgin for help , and I kept thinking that her best bet was to crack Sergio on the head with that statue...but that only happened in my mind, Periodically, she would attempt to escape...dragging along an enormous piece of Samonite luggage ??QUE? One should always travel light when trying to escape a psychotic hubby. That is about all I remember. Ohh..is that the novela that had Liz Vega dancing her heart out at the local cantina? Sylvia and I were big fans of Liz when she was on the Sunday dance show.
"Gee Carlos---I'm disappointed, is that all I get?"
Glad you asked. You said,
"Come on Carlos---your anniversary has been over for three days now, it's time to come back down to earth..."
No thanks. Clearly you haven't met The Lovely Linda.
Carlos
And it did turn out to be fascinating and very funny. Really, really funny!
Of course the two leads' romance got boring, but not the secondary characters. Those side stories were amazing. Gancho was one of the best in my opinion. And I think Carlos would agree.
Un Gancho Al Corazón? That was my favorite... ever. We had such fun and we even had a Club Gancho here when it ended. Did you ever see any of the recaps? I would have bet that you would have been captivated by Ximena, the ultimate fresa, and the love scenes between Beto and Coni were the steamiest I've ever seen in a TN. It just shows how differently we sometimes all can view these TNs.
Susanlynn,
your memories of Duelo de Pasiones bring back such fond memories for me.
"I remember that he could not recognize the heroine...because she had changed her clothes. ..QUE?"
Hmmm... that sounds vaguely familiar from something even more recent.
By the way, Tonki was actually a Belgium Malinois and I would love to see Gaspar again in something.
Carlos
I was told that the same problems were in Mar de amor. I know, natalie had problems with Cimarro. But here she had no problems with main couple. So why she separated them and made us hate our galan? Why?
Alegria
I wanted to know if anyone else noticed that Lupita was breathing kind of funny in that scene where MC was holding her and talking to Juanita. Perhaps Lupita really is medicated. She sounded like I did when I had asthma as a child.
Caryn
El Talisman I stopped watching, but the recaps were hilarious. I also liked Karym Lozano’s character who had her baby kicked out of her, and I loved how hammy Aaron Diaz and Julieta Rosen got with their villains. They were fun and they were clearly having fun. The characters were also pretty darn consistent. I bet if we pulled out a line of dialogue, we’d be able to tell which character said it.
The same can’t be said for CI. This is the most inconsistent tn I have ever seen. I only watched it as long as I did (and I’m not watching it now) because I’m a recapper. But what it has going for it is Ana Brenda. She brings 100% to the role in each scene and she’s a great actor. She’s also really pretty. I also enjoyed Elizabeth Alvarez playing Lucia. She also gave 100% and is a great actor. After MC left the ranch, the writers didn’t give Lucia enough to do, and then they squandered their opportunity completely by killing the character. What a waste of a great over the top villain.
Gancho was up and down, too long, and had a boring main couple, but the side characters were wonderful, hilarious, and memorable. Connie, Beto, Nieves, Don Cesar, Ximena, Estrella… I could go on. They were all so fabulous.
Carlos is right on with CI being frustrating. Better editing could make a huge difference. Well, better writing too.
Thanks all for your comments on El Tal. I watched for about a week and couldn't go on. I thought it was just me....
I wasn't really paying attention to things like ratings at the time of Gancho. I was pretty new to Caray Caray at the time. It might have been low ratings. It might have been how long Gancho was and they wanted to move a more anticipated show to the timeslot. That was back when they only showed three tns a night, not four like now.
I loved Gancho, but I like vecindad novelas anyway. AGAIN, the recappers MADE that show....It is the only time that I haves seen college basketball and a novela blog combined!
Which reminds me....HELLO JUDYB...I've missed you...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xhwa2XKQIFw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sq2Q64nmUoU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTiVSTxoUdw
I guessed the first 2... and as you, I laugh (out loud) each time I've watched them. The third is so much fun and demonstrate what an excellent actor Alex Alex Sirvent is since we can only see his eyes, and of course it includes "tres cosas. I think that no trip down Ximena Memory Lane is complete without this. I laugh and get chill bumps at the same time.
Carlos
Yes, that is our monkey right behind Maricruz. I didn't even notice him until I rewatched that scene as I was gathering photos.
Carlos
----------
I guess I missed a few plot developments these past 2.5 weeks...Simona being terminal, Lupita all grown up and Solita having a mother. I have a lot to catch up on this week but I am sure all you reccapers will do a sufficient job in that regards (saves me from watching 14 episodes of craziness) :)
In all its craziness, I actually found CCEA entertaining...I like WL, MP and AZ. The recaps were also very funny.
Thanks for the extra duty recap. My favorite caption:
"Get It? I'll be Autopsied And You'll Go To Prison. Sometimes I Crack Myself Up."
It's so funny because its so true. Señor Ponce seemed mighty pleased with himself.
"t's healthy that couples be able to communicate so freely with each other. "
After 43 years of marriage you must know! I hope you don't have that much in common with the Ponces however! (BTW, Congratulations!)
"José Antonio cracked me up by his attempts to just act naturally. Now that was funny." ITA!
And in regards to the JackAss' query, "How 'Bout That New Pope?" Well, I know what I like,
http://www.lifewithdogs.tv/2013/03/pope-francis-makes-exception-to-bless-guide-dog/
Some of the best moments this week were those of Miguel's gleeful thought bubbles regarding Simon's demise. His keen eagerness for her passing made me giggle.
Agreed that some of the bizarre moments this week included Solita hosting Vargas' wedding and Alvaro as Vargas' best man. Okey dokie. I'll just go with it.
Ickiest moments: the Perico-Solita relationship. Solita deserves so much better and I don't have much hope that her mother is going to bring much to the eventual reunion.
Oh, Oh, Gringo. Too, too funny…. "How do you know that her hair is "untamable," have you been combing it or brushing it lately?" Sorry Carlos, but I did LOL!
Barbara
You're quite welcome. Yes, it sounds like a few things have actually happened in the last couple of weeks. Poor Simona, who could have believed that a makeover would be such a negative turning point in her life. I once called her Lady Beige and I'll bet she's a little wistful of those drab times of her younger days. I'm hoping for a turn for the better or at least the more interesting with the addition of Solita's mom. I wonder if we'll learn who her daddy is? Ramiro perhaps? Maybe Octavio's and Miguel's daddy? Simona's daddy?
Carlos
I'm so glad to hear from you today and I'm happy that you found the recap along with the photos and captions amusing. Thank you for that link. Neato.
I snickered at gringo's little dig... cute. However my daughter has hair that was much the same and even after 41 years, still is. It's beautiful, but manageable is a term that has never been applied. I showed her the photo of Lupita when she dropped by this afternoon and her exact words,
"Poor child."
Carlos
as contrasted with Abelardo Ponce who is in a wheelchair, is dying with heart disease, and has a plotting thieving wife and yet manages to stay upbeat and positive about the whole thing.
Carlos
I enjoyed reading all the comments. I, also a while back, called Octavio consistently inconsistent.
Gringo, thanks for the support.
I was wondering, if there was ever a really bad writing for me, it is "Fifty Shades of Grey" tho a best seller maybe because of the content. Could you imagine the film or it being a tn? Or maybe it would be a totally different screenwriter than Ms. James.
I agree with Vivi about CCEA. I happened to catch it in the morning reshow and really only liked it because of WL.
With CI too, I really like Ana Brenda and Maricruz. I like the chemistry between her and Oblivious but for me he is deader than dead. But for MC, (as we see her blind to JA's shortcomings and apparent devious deeds)she would probably forgive Octavio in the end.
For me, it is usually better for a woman to find a man who loves her and puts her on a pedestal than a woman doing the same to a man.
And lastly, Paloma, about Simona blaming MC, yes this too, was making me a mean person to wish her to die already. Didn't Migreedy said this blaming thing too?
Sandy...thanks for the encouraging words. My mantra has been "it is what it is " for awhile now. Onward we go.
"Carlos, my tummy hurts!!!!"
So you watched the episode? I warned that it would painful.
"...Octavio consistently inconsistent?"
Definitely. I'm glad you're still watching with us though.
As for Simona dying, we seem to be assured of that, but whom do we need dead most urgently, Simona, Miguel, or José Antonio?
No, the writers or director are not choices.
Carlos
I must confess that I have spent time in Texas. My Gran and GrandPa were from Cleburne and we lived in Lufkin when Mr Mads was on recruiting duty, and two of my brothers reside in Baytown. The people there are so warm and friendly. The Texisms I got from my GrandPa and living in Texas. I love the saying for the state, "Texas, It's a Whole 'Nother Country" and "Don't Mess With Texas" is another favorite.
Carlos
he sure isn't doing very well right now. He could use some help.
Anyway---tonight should be really good. It looks like poor Lupita is doomed. Another kidnapping? QUE?
I guess that she is going to be taken to a small cabin way out on the furthermost part of $imona's giant rancho. Think positive Caray
Mates. This could end up being a good thing. While Lupita is isolated out at the rancho, the director could use Lupita's
"required" 15 minutes of time by bringing in someone to work on her
"untamable" hair. Well it's worth a try isn't it? And besides, while she is out there, she will have plenty of time to catch up on the sleep she's been missing. What say you Carlos, anybody?
LoriLoo---Amores Verdaderos, QUE?
Most people loved that novela as did I.
Cathyx---Miguel as a pesky gnat. LOL Yes, that he is.
the gringo
Oh, btw, Ana Brenda (a very young AB) was Claudia on Duelo de Pasiones. She appears in this clip, starting at about the 15 second mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxOAyD6WZVg
Anyway, my vote for the very worst novela I have ever seen is Sacrificio de Mujer. Awful, awful, awful. There simply are no words to explain why, well before the end of the novela, they would have the main villain show up at someone's house with a gun, with the apparent intent to do them harm, then suddenly have her point the gun to her own head and blow her brains out in front of them. Nothing in the plot made sense before that point, but after that point it was beyond ridiculous, worse than CI.
It looks like they, some of them--Maricruz and Santa are on to him acting suspicious as he was. His days might be numbered unless he takes the money and heads out of town.
Can't wait for tonight.
the gringo
sorry to have interfered with your son's construction project. Though I never even knew about Legos when I was a child, I did have an Erector Set and envied other kids with Lincoln Logs. I adore playing with Legos even now. I hope your son was able to finish his construction even with our interruption.
Thanks so much for that link. Even after watching it I don't remember her character. It was good to see Gaspar again and Sergio Goyri in a part suited to him.
Carlos
Carlos
This was a brilliant recap. I have never even seen the show but I loved your version. I may have to watch the last section of the show.
Like so many of your fans, I could repeat endlessly the funny lines from your recap, but I vote for the following as number one best:
"Maricruz Olivarez, who is fiddling with her daughter Lupita's hair (I suspect, being the vigilant mom that she is, inspecting for nits)."
I could not stop laughing. I do not know the character or the child but I know your sense of humor, dear Carlos, and this tickled me pink.
I also loved "Benedryl bliss" and "pop a Xanax if that's your style".
Hee hee hee.
Another gem was:
[Image] "Get It? I'll be Autopsied And You'll Go To Prison. Sometimes I Crack Myself Up."
It's healthy that couples be able to communicate so freely with each other.
Thanks for such a great recap Carlos. Your brilliant work has enticed me to watch PEAM.
Elna June
. . basura!
The parts I did let my eyes scan slowly on were cathartic. I am glad not everybody watching is as stupid as I feel when I leave it on. Now it is just to catch the awfulness of it and not let it make my brain toxic!
I've also discovered the origins of Valley Girl Up-Talk, which I hate just as much as Spanish "dismemberment" - - is from Mexican Spanish, but a certain class and maybe age group of women . . . that have to ask by talking up every few words, whether it is a question or just a declarative sentence.
