Qué Pobres, Lunes 2/17/14 (#31): In which MA loses a fight with a chair. Again.

AS notices that MA is constantly looking at his watch. She asks what's up with that. I don't think this is ever explained.

JT's concert comes to a premature end with an impromptu kickboxing match. Actually, it's more of a mismatch, since Tato grossly underestimates his opponent. Ouch! Chuy warns Tato, a bit too late, that JT knows what he's doing and he'll bust Tato's tangerine. But Chuy also tells JT, "Get out of the ring or I'll throw you out."

Upstairs, Leo, MA, and AS hear the ruckus and worry about Frida. Leo volunteers to check up on her - and admits that he'll also be looking for something to eat.

Outside, Tato tells Frida she's coming with him; she says no. He begs her for another chance; she says no. He vows to get her back.

Lupe lectures JT about fighting. The gist of the lecture is "don't fight."

The actual wrestling commences. (The referee's name is, I believe, Bombón Asesino, but he doesn't look much like Ninel Conde.) Luchadors are flying around all over the place. Diego looks happy. Chuy complains about Perla's outfit again.

AS is tired of the "penthouse" and goes back down to her, er I mean Chuy's, bedroom which I think is also being used as a dressing room for the wrestlers?

Leo finds Frida and tries to get her out of there. She refuses and takes off. She finds JT sulking in another room. (His room? Where are we? I'm totally disoriented.) He's upset that his concert ended early. Frida tells him she likes his name, and she thanks him for defending her against her ex. She assures JT that Tato is definitely her EX. She had thought he was an activist like her, but he was really just a poseur. She also says something about looks not being important, and caring more about what's on the inside; and JT says something about her hair and her eyes, and next thing you know, they're making out like telenovela characters.

But then Frida pulls away, saying they can't do this because neither family would tolerate it. JT halfheartedly agrees, but thinks to himself that this wasn't too bad of a consolation for losing the concert.

Vilma looks at the Coliseum from the safety of a car. She tells Beto, her driver, that this place isn't worth three pesos. But she's going to have to get out of the car, and he's going to have to guard her, because she's such a helpless woman.

Fortunately, Mati sees Vilma before Vilma sees her, and flees.

Beto is shorter than Vilma, but he tries his best to be impressive. His best isn't very good. Vilma tries to bully her way past Emiliano without paying, but the big guys support Emiliano, and Beto is persuaded to tell Vilma to buy two tickets.

Perla corners Diego and invites him to agree that she looks good in her sexy outfit that Chuy finds so objectionable. Diego just says, "You know how fathers are." Carmelita tells Perla to go to her room and change.

MA looks for Leo and Frida, but is intercepted by Lupe, who tells him that Tato has left, so it should be safe to mingle now. She also gloats that he was wrong about the wrestling show - it's a big success!

Next thing MA knows, Guendy is mesmerizing him with confusing folksy language. He doesn't understand half of what she's saying, but it seems she wants them to have some drinks, get to know one another better, and then she'll "reveal everything." (Ack! Run away! Run away!!)

Vilma stalks around the place, asking if anyone knows where she can find the owners. She doesn't understand the spectators any better than MA understands Guendy, but she keeps trying. She even asks a luchador who's lying on the mat. ("Can't you see I'm in the middle of a fight, lady??") Carmelita thinks Vilma wants to rent the place for an event, but says Vilma will have to take it up with the owners, because she's really busy right now.

Because it's very crowded in there, MA doesn't see Vilma, and Vilma doesn't see MA. Guendy does most of the talking:
"Are you a Pisces? I bet you're a Pisces. No? Then you're a Scorpio."
"I'm a Virgo, actually..."
"Aw, no you're not!"

JT's friend is angry that JT had to ruin the concert defending his "cousin." JT is too distracted to pay attention to his groupies. They are offended. He mutters something about looks not being important, and caring more about what's on the inside; hmm, that sounds familiar. ;-)

Nepo wants to go dancing with Lupe later. Lupe doesn't look enthused. Sharky congratulates Lupe on the event's success; he'll expect payment soon.

MA finally gets away from Guendy. Mati warns him that Vilma is here. He sends Mati up to the penthouse, and phones Frida to tell her and Leo to get out of there too. (Leo is always saying that he doesn't want any of the tacos, but he keeps eating them...) Frida and Leo take off. Diego watches one or both of them leave...

Vilma doesn't want to leave here until she gets some answers. Beto wants tacos. Vilma won't let him have any. They begin to search the house.

I think Mati made it to the roof-shack, but AS is still in the bedroom and MA is trying to get them to the roof before Vilma gets there. She starts knocking, and threatens to bust the door down if they don't open up. (Where the hell does she think she is??) They try to be very quiet and it seems that Vilma is about to give up, until MA's phone rings.

And now for something completely different: Mini and Mom discuss Mini's failure to secure a post-nuptial agreement from Ahole. They are both desperate to get some security from Ahole as soon as possible. They think whatever's in the safe will be exactly what they need, but they don't have the combination. Mini says she'll think of something.

Fortunately for MA, that bedroom is full of luchador masks and costumes. He puts one on and uses it to get past Vilma. He doesn't give her any useful information, but she comments that he's been nicer to her than anyone else she's encountered thus far.

Unfortunately for MA, the costume he chose was Bluetooth's. And Bluetooth himself doesn't seem to be around (I didn't hear why). And this is REALLY a problem for MA, because Chuy is calling Bluetooth to the ring right now. Where is he? Chuy tries to stall for time. "It all began one cool summer night..." The crowd boos impatiently as Chilaquiles looks for the runaway wrestler.

Beto begs Vilma to stay for the fight. He's never seen a lucha before.

(Half a universe away, Ahole slobbers over Mini's belly. She protests that her dinner is getting cold. And she's getting nauseated. Ahole is offended. Mom tells him to be patient with her. He wants to announce the pregnancy right away. Mom warns him to wait a little bit. It's too soon. Ahole says it's not too soon for him! He's gonna be president!! (He doesn't even know yet if it's a boy!)

Back to Mexican Italy. Fake-Bluetooth (soon to be "Redtooth") is thrust, protesting, into the ring. He tries to run away. "I'm not me," he whispers to Chuy in a panicked voice. Misunderstanding, Chuy replies, "You're disgracing the profession!"

Now the Metallic Fly and Son-of-a-Perro are pummeling him with folding chairs. So now he's literally had trouble with chairs from head to toe. Bluetooth's partner, Wifi, is also getting chaired pretty badly.

The crowd goes wild. MA prays for mercy. Either the fly-man or the dog-son is biting his head.

And then it gets violent!

Next time: If Lupe fails to rescue Bluetooth and Wifi, will everyone have to go back to using Ethernet cables? And will MA finally seek help for his seating disorder? Find out tomorrow!

Looking forward to your recap, Julie. Frida and Tizoc could no longer deny their attraction!
Not surprised that MA ended up in the ring, dressed in full luchador costume. Vilma was quite bold about going all over the house.

Done!
I feel like I missed a few things... where was the real Bluetooth? Why did MA keep looking at his watch? Are Vilma and Beto still there, or did they leave?

Julie:

Thank you so much for this fantastic recap! You didn't miss a thing.

I think Vilma and Beto are still there. I laughed at Beto, he is so much smaller than Vilma and she wants him to protect her, que??? She could quell someone with a look.

Oh M Gee with Tizoc and Frida. They are sure not fighting their feelings at all. I like them together.

Why didn't MA turn off the phone? I know he called someone from that room, but still he could put the phone on silent and have let any calls that came in go to voice mail while he was hiding out. Still, now he is the "Blu Tooth", oh my, and getting pounded too. I feel bad for him. Wait until Don Chuy finds out.

Mini and Isela continue to be the funniest ever! Ahole is becoming more of a jerk. He just wants that Presidency. I hope the ladies find out what is in that safe in the closet.

Julie, thanks for the great recap. Your "Next time" comments were priceless and had me laughing.

One funny visual in this episode was Beto being detained between the bellies of the two luchadores outside helping Mati and Emiliano with crowd control.

I loved that Emiliano made Vilma and Beto wait in line and buy tickets.

A very scary visual was seeing MA /BlueTooth in the ring being subjected to the two folding chair "experience." Yikes! That was a new one. As MA was calling out "Santa Madona" and "Cristo" I was hoping he would have let go with a real Eva "CRISTO." It would have been so funny.

At least Frida and Tizoc realize that they will have to be discreet with their new romance. Let's see how long that lasts.

Poor Minerva couldn't even eat in peace with Alejo and his antics. Looks like her "pregnancy" is going to be more difficult than expected.

Julie, marvelous recap! Your title was very clever.

Frida and JT made a fast leap forward!

"Ahole slobbers over Mini's belly". LOL ,

Yes, Emiliano did great with Villma. Vilma showed us an unpleasant side of herself this episode.

Barbara

LOL Barbara, have we seen a pleasant side of Vilma yet??

I love it when an episode has a little self-contained story within it. This was not one of those episodes. I feel like we started in the middle of something, and ended in the middle of something.

Another thing I should have included in the "next time": Will Beto get a taco??

One thing about MA's beatdown in the ring: now that he's experienced firsthand what wrestlers can do when they're putting on a show just for fun, he might think twice about ever planning to cross the Menchacas again. Chuy is a very peaceful guy himself, but he has a lot of loyal friends who would gladly smack MA with bigger chairs if provoked.

Great recap, Julie! and thanks! I needed it because I missed last night's episode and it did not record (not enough space).
I am still a bit under the weather. Is anyone able to take over the recap tonight for me? I would like to go to sleep early so I can make it to work tomorrow. thanks in advance!

Marta, I hope you feel better soon! Rest up!

I can do tonight IF someone can take Wednesday... either way, I can at least put up a discussion header for you tonight.

Julie and Marta:

I will do tonight since I have no recap this week, due to Premios on Thursday, there will be no TNs that night.

Cool, thanks Madelaine!

Julie

Good one about MA maybe starting to think differently about trying to screw over the Menchacas knowing what Chuy could do to him.

It was totally predictable that MA would end up in the costume and in the ring but fun anyway.

A clarification - Don Chuy's bedroom is off limits to the luchas as he has a lady staying there. TJ's room is the dressing room for the event.

Vilma did reveal a lot about her inner nastiness with her snotty comments about the lucha set up, the people in the area and of course the "tacky" decor. Beto on the other hand found it charming and was up for the food, and I loved his mimicking her when she demanded he follow her. Him I like.

I so agree with everyone who wonders who the hell she thinks she is to go wandering around the private quarters of people she knows nothing about. I also laughed when the two guard the door lucha's asked if Beto was her son and how she patted her eyes as if looking for wrinkles.

Decie Girl, I forgot about that guy asking if Beto was Vilma's son. Don't really quite understand how he could think that, but she was such a pill last night that the 'insult' made me laugh.

Barbara

Thanks, Decie - I was very confused as to which room was which.

Beto really was funny. And the woman who plays Vilma is getting way more comedic mileage out of that character than I would have imagined possible!

Thanks, Julie. Loved it all, but your summary of the previews really slayed me.

Tizoc has all kinds of moves! Smooth! I'm glad we have at least one affectionate couple going. They're cute.

I couldn't figure out what happened to the real Bluetooth, either. There was really no need to panic about the ringing phone, though. It makes sense that the luchadores would leave their phones in the dressing room, and there's no reason they would have bothered to silence them. It wouldn't indicate anyone was in there. I wonder if Vilma really would have broken the door down. What gall. Strolling into someone else's home uninvited and threatening to break down a door? I wish the luchadores had caught her in there.

Best part was Emiliano handling the line, and especially Vilma and Beto, so competently and professionally.

The good thing about MA's pummeling, I suppose, is that it gives Lupita a chance to play nurse again.

I'm more surprised that Vilma couldn't SMELL him in that room, what with his stinky suit and all. (Come to think of it, I'm surprised she didn't smell him when he was hiding in Ahole's office a few weeks ago.)

Do any of you watch Mentir Para Vivir? I caught a little of it last night and saw Leo as a television news anchor.

It just made me wonder again how long it will be before Leo makes any attempt to earn some money by actually working.

Julie thanks for your recap. I also hope MA's beat down will make him realize messing over Don Chuy and his family is a really bad idea.

Vilma is a mess. I wonder what will make her snap or if she'll remain loyal to Alejo. The good thing about tns is that the villains usually turn on one another so I wonder how Alejo will throw her under the bus.

Thanks so much, Julie! I really enjoyed this episode.

Julia- Yes, I noticed Leo as the tv reporter on MPV. I chuckled when I saw him. Maybe Leo finally gets a job by the end of this tn, as it's as a reporter. He would certainly love to look at himself on camera.

ITA. Vilma has some nerve barging into the home of strangers and acting like she owns the place. Are we sure she isn't related to the RPs?
