De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #42- Tue 5/6

De que hicieron el amor, hicieron el amor!

Alonso went to the bar to pick up Irene!  She didn't drink!  She's amazed Alonso still believes in her.  Well, of course she is, because her dad's a total tool!

Eleazar tries to find out why Chato has shown up all of a sudden, and what he was doing while he was away.  Chato doesn't mention his "problem," but he talks about how it would be impossible not to love Lupita and that he's had other women (yeah, right) but none as great as Carmen and he never should have left her.  He realizes it's time to pick Lupita up from school.  This is not going to go well.

Padre Juancho thinks Diana's threats are empty.  Natalia knows that even if she leaves Diego alone, he's still determined to get a divorce and no one's going to be able to convince Diana that it's NOT because of Natalia.  And if she tells Diego, then he'll confront Diana and she'll make good on her threat.  Natalia begs  Padre Juancho to go talk to her.  He grudgingly agrees, and I do not blame him for wanting nothing to do with that hot mess!  But, if he can't talk some sense into her, he thinks she needs to tell Diego.  In other words, just go tell him and save Padre Juancho the trip.  Seriously, Natalia…I thought you liked Padre Juancho.

Eleazar drove Chato to Lupita's school to pick her up.  Chato's in the back of his car and El says he's…indisposed….

Vicente rails against Irene and her allegedly-inebriated ways, until he has chest pains again and decides to go home.

Chato claims that he's got food poisoning from eating street food.  Lupita thinks it's his own damn fault.  Paolo comes up and realizes Chato's drunk and he's not shy about telling Lupita.  Lupita gets angry at both Chato AND Eleazar and tells them both to leave her alone.  "I don't like liars!"  She walks off with a smirking Paolo.  I thought Eleazar was more intelligent than this, but I'm going to have to side with Lupita.

Alonso and Irene get back to his apartment and he asks what happened with Vicente.  Alonso tells her she's got to be confident in herself and not let dumbasses like her dad bring her down.  *hugs*  And a cut to them conversing again.  Irene said when she had the drink in her hands, she thought of Alonso saying he loved her and it gave her the strength to put down the drink.  And get her hands on something else!  *smoochies* GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

Padre Juancho goes looking for Diana just as Vicente is arriving and Vicente tells Lala to have the Padre wait in his study.

Diego catches up to Natalia outside her place and tells her that he quit Caprico and doesn't know where Irene is.  He kind of assumes she's drinking, since her phone was at a bar.  Natalia is sympathetic on hearing that Irene is an alcoholic and says she hopes Irene will surface soon.

Padre Juancho insists on talking to Diana, but Vicente says she's not going to talk to him.  Padre Juancho tells him about Diana's threat, but Vicente assumes Natalia's making it up.  He accuses her of causing problems.  Padre Juancho insists that Vicente's great-grandchild's life is in danger, but doesn't mention the email.  Vicente refuses to pay attention to "gossip" and tells Padre Juancho to leave.  On his way out of the house, he passes by Tiburcio, who immediately runs in to tell Vicente that the priest who just left is the one from Tuxpan, who knows where his granddaughter is!

Outside the house, Padre Juancho calls Natalia to tell her his trip was a bust.  Natalia makes good on their agreement and hands the copy of the email over to Diego, after making him promise not to do anything rash.

Tiburcio is seeing Padre Juancho's appearance as a sign, but since this is Vicente's world and he's already made his decision, his granddaughter is DEAD and Tiburcio will forget ever seeing the padre.  He is a piece of work!

Irene tells Alonso she's afraid to have a relationship with him because it might end.  But what a ride, Irene, what a ride!  She doesn’t want Alonso making promises, so he says he'll settle for showing her.  You do that, Al.  You do that.

Diego's upset that Natalia didn't tell him sooner, but she didn't want anything to happen to the baby.  She tells him about Padre Juancho's pointless trip.  Diego doesn't know what he's going to do yet, but he also thinks Diana's capable of carrying out her threat.  He decides to get Alberto involved and see if there's anything he can do, legally. Natalia wishes him luck.

Chato apologizes to Lupita again and tries to brush off his drinking as "having a little fun."  Lupita says he should have gone to a movie or something and he's screwed it up with her mom.  Carmen hears Chato talking about how Carmen is the best woman ever and he was a total idiot letting her get away and missing Lupita's early years.  She agrees to forgive him if he promises not to get drunk again.  Post-it of Doom #3.  *death glare*

Diego shows Alberto the copy of the email.  Alberto thinks she's nuts.  Between this and the attempt to kill Diego, he thinks they need to prove that she's a danger to herself so they can have her sent to a clinic that will take care of both her and the baby.  They'll need a doctor's evaluation, so Diego calls Alonso.  Who is in the middle of some long-awaited (well, on my part anyway) nookie with Irene.  He ignores the phone.  Alberto figures he's with a patient, so Diego calls his office.  And when he doesn't find him there, Alberto says if Alonso doesn't call back soon, he'll go look for him.  Diego tells him about quitting Caprico over the clothing line and says he and Irene can't challenge Vicente because his word at Caprico is law.  "I thought your grandmother always said the company was yours, Rodrigo's and Irene's."  Diego says it turned out that his grandfather was the sole heir.  Alberto makes a serious lawyer face and nods while the music indicates potential intrigue…I wonder if Grumps' control of the company isn't as absolute as he's trying to make it seem!  I wouldn't put it past him to hide from the kids…for their own good, of course…that they're part owners.  The question is, would he go so far as to hide from them that it's ALL theirs and he's only supposed to be helping guide them?  And how many pockets would he have to line to make that happen?  Or was it easy to do because Rodrigo and Diego were too young to know any better and Irene was off in Monterrey?  Is the real source of his grumpiness that Irene actually IS coherent enough now to challenge him and he knows she and Diego have legal grounds to do it?

Irene and Alonso come up for air and to raid the kitchen.  Irene starts scavenging for food and Alonso begs her to pinch him.  "No, never mind…if I'm dreaming I don't want to wake up!" With a kiss, Irene assures her dear doctor that this is real.

Tiburcio remembers leaving Irene's baby in the church.  He ponders the mystery of Padre Juancho's visit and considers telling Irene.  He decides to tell Padre Juancho that he knows who the baby's mother is. Hilda happily comes in and announces that he'll never guess who's here.

Down in the foyer, Mama Alina is in the house and she's ready to rip into Diego for attacking her sweet baby girl.  And she's pissed she had to skip a safari to do it.  Diego blasts Diana for continuing to lie in front of her own mother.  He asks to speak to Alina alone, but Diana whines and begs her mommy not to do it because Diego will just try to turn Alina against her.

Irene and Alonso have finished their postcoital pasta.  Alonso asks her to sleep over, but Irene wants to go home and confront her dad about the clothing line.  She wants to keep their relationship a secret for now, though.  "It might be difficult for them to accept that I'm in love with my nephew's best friend."  Alonso agrees to drive her home and jokes that he'll have to drop her off at the corner to be able to kiss her goodbye.

Alone in the study, Diego tells Alina that Diana is full of crap.  And also, that he's the one who called her, NOT Diana.  "She won't eat, she calls the baby she's carrying a thing, and she tried to shoot me!"  Alina can't believe it.  Diego says things were bad for a while, but they came to a head when he found out she was cheating on him.  "You're the one who's cheating on her!"  Diego tells her about Diana going so far as to bring her lover over to the house and introduce him as her cousin.  Alina still doesn't want to believe him, but we all know Diego has the proof.

Alonso and Irene are about to leave when Alberto comes looking for him.  Irene wants to hide…or wait for him to leave.  Alonso's phone starts ringing.  Irene tells him to answer and pretend he's somewhere else.  Alberto saw his car in the garage.  "Oh, I left it there…the battery was dead."  He claims to be out on a date…with Karina.  Irene smacks him and fights to keep from laughing out loud.  Alberto wants to wait for him out in the hallway and won't agree to go back to his own apartment and let Alonso meet him there.  Alonso calls Eleazar and asks him for a big favor…"Distract Alberto so I can get out of my apartment."  He tells the truth--that he's with someone and he doesn't want Alberto to see her.  Eleazar goes out to the hallway, pretending to be surprised that Alberto is there, and invites him in for a coffee.  Alonso and Irene peek out into the hallway and are just starting to leave when Eleazar sticks his head out and says "Just wanted to confirm my suspicions."  He gives them a thumbs up and Irene looks at Alonso and mouths "Suspicions?"  Yeah, that whole secret relationship…not much of a secret.

Alina watches the video and calls Diana into the study.  She demands an explanation.  Diana sticks to her story--it's all a lie, they set her up, she's nothing more than an incubator, and Diego has his lover working for him.

Lala brings Vicente a nice soothing cup of tea…and tells him Alina's in the house.  And there goes Vicente!

At the car, Irene asks if Eleazar can be trusted.  She says they can't take Alonso's car or Alberto will realize he lied about the battery.  Alonso starts laughing, saying they're acting like teenagers, sneaking around.  "He'll never notice!  Eleazar's keeping him entertained."

Diego tells Alina he's worried about the baby's health.  "See!  I told you!  He treats me like an incubator!"  Vicente comes in and asks Alina QTH she's doing there.  He mocks her for saying she's there to do her "motherly" duty.  "Like you'd know what that is!"  Wow..and if Vicente thinks you're a bad parent….  His beef with her appears to be that she spent more time on archaeological digs than paying attention to Diana.  Alina wants to get some sleep and talk about things in the morning, when she's got a clear head.  She ends up staying in Diana's room since Diego is already in the guest room and she doesn’t want to go to a hotel.  Diego has to explain to Vicente that she's not there because of his call…he wasn't able to reach her when he tried, but Diana got hold of her and told Alina HER version.

Carmen looks at the designs and tells Brigitte that she thinks they're really good.  "I designed more than half of them," Brigitte smarms.  "The only one I don't like is that one…the collar is so ugly!"  She's looking at the sample that Brigitte "improved."  Ha!  Natalia comes in and Carmen (who can now afford to be generous, since she thinks Irene is out of the picture) tells her not to worry, something's bound to come up, and in the meantime they can help her at the fonda.

Alonso drops Irene off across the street from her house.  She gives him a quick kiss and runs into the house as he picks up his phone and grouchily sighs to Alberto that he's on his way already.

Alina is babbling about archaeological evidence of somethingorother when Irene walks in.  When Irene asks if they can resume their earlier discussion, Vicente is all too happy to get the hell away from the table, as is Diego.  Alina thinks they're weird.  Diana takes the opportunity to gripe that in this house, if you're not a Cacares, you don't count.

In the study, Irene admits she did want to drink after their argument, but instead, she pulled it together and made sweet, sweet love with Diego's BFF.  Well, maybe she didn't say that last part.  Vicente keeps insisting that she MUST have been drunk to leave the bar with a man and leave her cell phone there.  Irene claims she didn't leave with a man and if she left her phone, that was out of carelessness.  "Look at me!  I'm sober!  How can I convince you?"  She can't, of course, so she says to just forget earlier. "This is a good business plan.  Just look at it and we won't even have to convince you ourselves.  Come on…you're a businessman!"  Vicente insists that no is no.  Diego tells Irene they'll do it on their own and he believes in her.  After they leave, Vicente calls them a pair of idiots and says they'll end up broke.

Alina's loving the crepes for dinner.  Diana blames the argument on her loss of appetite, but Alina, being used to more rustic dining on her digs, can't get enough.  "So, now that I'm here, what is it you want me to do?"  Diana says she wants her mom's help getting money out of Diego.  Some guy named Roger calls Alina to tell her about the day's find.  Diana rolls her eyes.

Eleazar is telling Alberto a joke about a kid and his dad visiting a farm.  The kid says everything he sees around him is "ganado" (livestock, and also won) and his father saying it's actually "robado" (stolen).  Alberto counters with a joke about three pals-- "Tonto" (stupid), "Nadie" (nobody), and "Ninguno" (no one).  Tonto tells a cop that Nobody fell in the well and No One is helping him.  So the cop asks if he's stupid.  "Yes! Pleased to meet you."  Alonso interrupts the jokefest.  He's got a big smile on his face, which Alberto notices, but Alonso quickly redirects to ask what's so urgent.  Alberto tells him about the email and Alonso looks thoughtful, but not terribly hopeful.

Up in Irene's room, Diego tells her that he's happy she didn't relapse.  He lets her know that Natalia and Brigitte collected the stuff from the office.  She's sorry she ran out on them like that and wants to call them right away and tell them they're going to continue the project, outside Caprico.  Diego says it really was a bad day.  He tells her about Diana's email.  Irene thinks she's nuts.  "Alonso told me…uh, in one of my therapy sessions…that there are some women whose judgment is so clouded that they resort to underhanded ways to get what they want."  (Mal de la cabeza is literally bad in the head, but it's less "nuts" and more confused or not thinking clearly.  Metodos muy bajos is literally very low methods.)  Diego says that's what Diana is doing.

Alberto says he'll come by Alonso's office in the morning with the paperwork he's going to need.  Once Alberto leaves, Eleazar ponders whether Diana would really do it.  Alonso changes the subject to Irene and her desire for secrecy.  Eleazar gives him a biiiiiiig grin as he says he understands.

Tad is home from the hospital after 3 days.  He doesn't want Irene to see him like this, so he'll wait to call her, despite his maid's encouragement.

Irene and Diego stop by Casa Garcia to explain what happened and tell them they're going to continue.  Brigitte and Natalia plead to work out of Casa Garcia and Irene lets herself be talked into it…for now…until they find somewhere else.  Carmen says nothing, but looks upset.

Tomorrow: Diana does not want to let go of Diego and BRIGITTE decides now is a great time to make a play for Diego as well.  Maldita brat!

Well, well, well...look who's 20 episodes sober and gettin' some quality nookie! High five, Irene!

To reiterate my comment from late yesterday...based on the responses I received (and for which I am very grateful!) this is our recapper lineup starting next week, when the show goes to 2 hours:

Mondays-ME!
Tuesdays-Sara (until August)
Wednesdays-Karen
Thursdays-Vivi (when available) or Karen
Fridays-Sara

In August, we'll want to revisit since Sara will be back in school and I'll be back at Chorus rehearsals on Monday nights. For now, as long as something goes up every night, even if it's just a discussion page, we can count ourselves successful! If some refugees from whatever show is ending or any other brave souls want to join us, we can alternate weeks. As long as we stay in contact, either through comments or email (mine is in my profile) it will all work out. I'll hold off on sending a request to change the sidebar until after next week. Go team!

Another winner, Kat! I'm really appreciative since hubs and I were dealing with sprinklers and new sod and I completely missed the scene about inheriting the company. Very important!

I'm so happy for Irene!!!

I'm not looking forward to the Brat tonight.

Gracias, Sara! I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but yes, you did say "sprinklers" and "sod" :D I'm totally speculating about the inheritance, but few to none of the little details on this show have been throwaways, so I'm pretty sure there's got to be a reason why all of a sudden we're hearing from different people that Vicente's wife "always" said the company was for Diego, Rodrigo, and Irene, but Grumps is saying it's 100% HIS company. If legally, it isn't, that's not something he can keep secret forever. Shouldn't a company this large have more of a structure? A board of directors or something?

Kat- I am SO looking forward to watching this episode and seeing Irene and Alonso! Thanks for the head start. :)

I love how Lupita is putting both her dads in their place. Maybe she can help them mature.

I'm very glad that Nat gave the e-mail to Diego without too much of a delay. Thanks, writers. Now, if only Tib would spill his secret to someone, other than Vicente.

Thanks Diva. And I join you in shouting Hooray that Irene and Alonso finally got together. And hopefully the bliss will last for a few episodes before we get the requisite telenovela misunderstanding and breakup. Sigh.

And speaking of...Qué the hell with Brigette making a play for Diego!? Guess after that suegro discussion of income, she figured he was a better bet financially but still! Creepy.

Join you as well in suspecting Grumpy Grandpa skullduggery in maintaining that he's the sole dueño of the company. Do we know much about his wife? And whether she was the one who brought the money into the business, and he simply the massive ego? And Diego's Dad? Are we missing a lot of backstory or is it just me coming late to the party?

Diego's parents are dead. It does seem that the company must have come from Diego's grandma's family, and not grandpa's family, hence the reason why the kids and the grandkids would be the heirs. I totally agree that Grumps is probably doing some sort of tomfoolery with the whole "ownership" question. But before now, Diego and Rod were too young, and Irene was too out of it or absent to ask any questions. Alberto needs to take a look at the company ownership documents or grandma's will.

And speaking of "being late", a belated thank you for once again putting up a sparkling recap, in the midst of your busy life. You are one incredible lady.

Enjoyed your quip, "postcoital pasta" by the way. And Ms. Irene certainly has nice muscle definition in those thighs. She looked smashing in Alonso's shirt. Too fit for a recovering alcoholic, but ni modo. Thanks too for including those rather daft Alberto and Eleazar jokes. At least I understood them when I watched the episode. Always feel encouraged if I can manage to make sense of humor in another language.

Wonderful Kat!

Fist, I share your enthusiasm for Irene's sobriety. One day at a time. AND a handsome, loving man.

Enjoyed all your witty comments including: "I do not blame him for wanting nothing to do with that hot mess!", "But what a ride, Irene, what a ride!", "Post-it of Doom #3. *death glare*" and your enviable rationale with an excellent set of questions including “Is the real source of his grumpiness that Irene actually IS coherent enough now to challenge him and he knows she and Diego have legal grounds to do it?”

Do we know for certain what Grump's wife's wishes were? Is he really the sole heir? I highly doubt it and suspect he forged the will.

Along with Judy, I am dismayed (although not really shocked) Brig will try and snare Diego. Hopefully this will backfire quickly and Al will find out and cut her loose.

I don't want Tad to die (if that will happen, I'm only speculating) without learning Nat is his daughter.

Kat, thank you again. You are fabulous...

Diana

Thumbs up 5ft, gracias.

You would think there is a company lawyer that could put things straight.
Probably something will come up that needs the signature of the (real owners). Maybe Grumps was in charge until the twins came of age.

Kat thanks so much for your recap. Enjoyed your various asides.

On the schedule, that's correct but in June I won't be able to recap on the 11, 18, 25 as I'll be out of town with no access to Uni.

ITA w/all of you that Grumps did something to that will and the kids are not wrong. Though he was showing some compassion towards the evil twin, his unforgivable behavior with Irene and stealing the company point to a bad ending.

Really psyched that Irene and Alonso are together (however short a time before the end b/c of tn rules).

I don't think Grumps is stealing the company, just protecting it from what he thinks is frivolous or stupid. He is not a thief.

Gracias, Vivi, JudyB, Diana, Variopinta, and Karen!

Karen, I'll make a note and cover those days.

I think with Grumps it's less like he did anything overt, just sort of neglected to tell any of the "kids" that they have some degree of ownership and the company lawyer has never had cause to be concerned about it. Depending on when his wife died, I could see where he would have held their portion of the company in trust, as Variopinta said, and just never told them when they aged into it. Unless there's some sort of corporate structure or a board of directors, no one would ever know or care.

I also don't think Grumps is doing anything like stealing money, but just as Kat suggested-- the twins and Irene likely legally gained ownership/a say a while ago, and Grumps neglected to tell them because he doesn't think any of them are fit to make decisions, like his oh so wise self.
