Weekend Discussion: TVyNovela Award Shows

By CorazonSalvaje:

Hey I wanted to make a Weekend Discussion. Since you guys are always saying the TVyNovelas Award Shows are rigged, we can discuss to whom we'd give the prizes to.

(I'll start it like this.)
So I noticed you guys make remarks about the TVyNovelas Award Shows which I have come to agree with. I feel as well that these shows are unfair at times but the fairest I think I've seen are 1999 (El Privilego de Amar taking them all is perfectly fine.) and 2014 (Amores Verdaderos taking a majority is OK as well.)

Ignacio Sada Madero has a Simplemente Maria remake in the works (He is one who is capable of writing good novelas which are often overlooked but honestly mentioned with affection. La Intrusa comes to mind and I think the ONLY reason(s) Bajo Las Riendas del Amor was rebuffed at the Premios TVyNovelas is because Mejia was associated with it. That and Destilando Amor robbing everything cough-Pasion-cough. I think the only awards I agreed with that year were the ones going to Lola Erase Una Vez and Pasion albeit 2 each. I think-
TBLMOE or Ed. Santamarina deserved best homme lead (but let's be real, all three leads were worthy of the prize. The only other lead was Gabriel Soto whom I can't stand.)
Angelica Rivera or Adriana Fonseca deserved best femme lead (Tie please!)
Adamariz Lopez deserved best femme fatale (but Daniela Castro was worthy as well. Keep in mind I include Bajo Las Riendas since it WAS  a Carla Estrada refrito which was harassed by Mejia. So in a way, she has 2 things for her LOL)
Bouffy or Alexis Ayala deserved best homme fatale)
Ana Martin deserved her award but I'm a sucker for Silvia Mariscal.
Marisol and German from Pasion deserved their awards.
Direccion de Camaras- Lola Erase Una Vez just because.
Escenas-Destilando Amor (was there a love scene in a barn? I remember one that was hot. Either that or Pasion because of Bouffy's decapitation scene.)
The revelation award does deserve to go to Eiza but her nominee Ariadne deserved it as well. Maybe a tie (in 2012, there was a tie for it with Laura Carmine and Alejandra Garcia.)
Best kid role went to Octavio Ocana which I agree with just because I wanted Lola Erase Una Vez to win in all it's 3 nominations LOL. (Danna Paola could have begged for a tie however.)

What is your opinion on these shows?

Urban,
I hope that I did not step on any toes by posting this topic. If I did, excuse me. It seems to have some good fodder for discussion.

Ooops, signed in as anonymous..

I'm a sucker for Silvia Mariscal.

Ditto!

No te preocupes, CS; it was a good thing to do because I will have a hectic weekend.

The award show in 1994 was great, too, because CS 93 did the big sweep. I can't believe that was 20 years ago.

I need a drink....

In 2013 PTYN, There was some ungodliness and Victoria Ruffo won best lead actress. Now, we all wanted Silvia Nvarro which I 101% agree with. However, hve you noticed she is ALWAYS rebuffed? In 2010 for MEPS, she was the lead but was omitted and Lucero (the villain) of all people was put in her spot. I'm glad though that the prize went to Itati Cantoral for her work in HQEDNS.

In 2011 for CME, she was the lead and ironically, Lucero was the lead in STuD. Once again she was omitted and the award went to Angelique Boyer for Teresa (Only other competition was Rebeca Jones in Para Volver a Amar. If you wanna get technical, Ingrid Martz for Zacatillo should have been nominated BUT she was omitted as well.)

In 2013, Silvia had her lead in Amor Bravio and not at all surprisingly anymore, was omitted and Lucero was nominated that year for PESE. As mentioned before, OneTrickPony won and the only other competition was Angelique Boyer and Zuria Vega (Let's be real, Zuria and Lucero were fit for this award and in the end, I'm glad Lucero won her lifetime award. Angelique was crucified on the AdP recaps so it's no surprise she didn't win.)

Now come 2015 and we'll have Silvia in Mi Corazon es Tuyo (which is a Juan Osorio project. I REALLY hope this doesn't become a downward spiral for her.) She was on the news about the role and it kinda gets me hoping she will be nominated and win.

Jaime Camil has been denied lots of awards as well.

In 2007 for LFMB, Yanez swiped it which I don't mind since La Verdad Oculta is mentioned with lots of love here on Caray Caray. Although there was a tie that same year for primer actor so why couldn't there be a tie for male lead?

In 2008, Yanez swiped like I mentioned and we wanted TBLMOE to win for Pasion (I personally wanted Eduardo Santamarina to win since he did good in a comedic role as Juan Querendon.) Reall,y all the nominated ones were fit and the only other lead was Gabriel Soto whom leaves a bad taste in my mouth at times. (I think my only good memory of him was when you guys called him HoneyBuns Busted in the Buff.)

In 2009, Jaime was in Tontas as Dr.Dimples but was omitted and Yanez was up again but alongside Jorge Salinas (The same stinky novela FELS), Alejandro Avila (he was the galan in Juro Que Te Amo which I loved.), Alejandro Camacho (Alma de Hierro) and Juan Soler (Palabra de Mujer)The pattern was broken and Alejandro Camacho won which was a deserved prize. (Unnominated competition was Gabriel Soto in Querida Enemiga but he didn't deserve it at all.)

In 2010, Los Exitosos Perez came out and Jaime was in it. He was omitted AGAIN and the competition was William Levy (Sortilegio) Pedro Fernandez (Dinero) Sebastian Rulli (Gancho) and a twist, Arturo Peniche for En Nombre del Amor (that actually makes up for Jaime's omission.) Now again ALL these men deserved their awards but sadly only one could take it home. The winner was none other than Pedro Fernandez. I couldn't agree more with this award. If I had to choose any other one to win though, Arturo since showed his stuff as Juan Cristobal. (LOL I'm just remembering Fernando Colunga was nominated for MEPS but apparently, that began a downward spiral in his career LOL.)

In 2011, Jaime didn't have a novela and well that's OK. TBLMOE did however and that was STuD. Also, Sebastian in Teresa, Rene Strickler in Para Volver a Amar and my favorite, Valentino Lanus in Llena de Amor. Colunga ultimately won and people say that Sebas. was robbed. I think Colunga's role was OK and didn't really care for Teresa. I personally wanted Valentino to win but yeah. If not Val. or Col. then Rene deserved it. (Not nominated competition was Juan Soler, Mario Cimarro, Jorge Aravena and Erick Elias. I'm surprised the Mi Pequena Traviesa remake wasn't given much love.)

(Tb Be Continued.)

In 2012, Jorge Pochito Salinas was in La Que No Podia Amar as Rogelio whom has been branded as an angry and downright mean man. However it was due to scorn and that made for a good backstory. He was the winner while his competition was Arath de La Torre as Pancho Lopez in UFCS (my personal fave) David Zepeda as
Ivan Villagomez in La Fuerza del Destino and Sergio Goyri in Dos Hogares (Hadn't Jorge won the award, I see Sergio winning as he is good as a galan although never really seen as one.) Do I even need to mention the omission of William Levy for Triunfo del Amor
(I really hate when Mejia sexually harassed Carla Estrada's stories. It's a sad thing when a Rosy Ocampo novela outdoes what was one Carla's.) The only other competition wasn't even nominated (Eduardo Santamarina in Ni Contigo Ni Sin Ti and Diego Olivera in Amorcito Corazon. In Esperanze del Corazon, it wasn't clear whom was the male lead but I'm guessing it was Agustin Arana.)

In 2013, we have Jaime Camil again for Por Ella Soy Eva which I 101% think he deserved an award for (the man dressed as a woman throughout the whole thing.) but I think he had a falling out with the premios organizers or something so that could have put in peril his chance to win although he was still nominated. Sadly, David Zepeda in Abismo de Pasion won while our other competition was Cristian de la Fuente (He was OK as Daniel) and Gabriel Soto (Rodrigo- the most useless galan ever.) Let's be real, Pedro Fernandez in Cachito de Cielo was similar to Jaime but I think he outdid Jaime since he literally came back to life for Maite Perroni. Pedro was my personal fave.

2014-We had Juan Diego Covarrubias, Sebastian Rulli, David Zepeda and Daniel Arenas. Now, Sebastian only works if he had Eiza nominated as well but that wasn't the case. Daniel Arenas was in the worst novela ever as Oblivio one of the worst galans ever (but if he and Ana Brenda won, it's because they has chemistry.) Next is Juan Diego Covarrubias as Diego in DQTQTQ and finally David Zepeda for Mentir Para Vivir. The final two were the most gallantry I've ever seen but only one could take it home. It was Juan Diego whom won it and since David won it last year, it's OK. (Unnominated was Gabriel Soto in Libre Para Amarte, Jose Ron in La Mujer del Vendaval, Jorge Salinas for QBA, Eduardo Yanez for AV and Last and certainly least, Fernando Colunga for PEAM! I'm guessing these weren't nominated since they'd won a bunch in a row in the past. I personally liked Jose Ron's role in LMDV though out of all these not nominated ones.)

Has Sergio Sendel ever won anything for his villian roles? he will most likely get the Villian of the Year ,he is the manifestation of all evil . Alexis Ayala deserves something too, although not as evil as Pedro but he is so mysterious. And i have to give props to Daniella Castro( Graciela) for her Satanic performance.Lisset is amazing too ,i cant believe that was that boring Miriam from Amor Bravio where you just wanna sleep from boredoom, they are two completely different personas!

Amores Verdaderos should be nominated last year. As well as QBA.
Many actors and novelas deserved awards, but they even didn't get nominations.
Very unfair award.

Victoria Ruffo should not ever win unless there is and award for crying the most. When she won in 2013 for Corona de Lágrimas & Silvia Navarro, the very best TN actress, wasn't even nominated, you can only think (rigged). I am still POed

As bad as FELS was, it had the best villains, Diana Bracho & Guillermo Carcia Cantú, I believe they both won.

I didnt even like Corona it was awful.I only liked her in La Madrastra but her crying is unbearable,i only lasted because of the villians tbh..I find Angelique Boyers or Silvia Navaross cry more natural.

Now for villains, I have a soapbox.

In 2009, it was between Diana Bracho (FELS), Adamariz Lopez (Alma de Hierro) and Cynthia Klitbo (Palabra de Mujer. Now, Diana's character as a villainess here is mentioned as the only reason to watch FELS along with Guillermo's character. I will be honest, I liked Adamariz' villainess more for a mature reason. She had one of the most scarring scenes in a novela. She She gouged her own eyes out with scissors and then they showed the empty black sockets. That is straight up demonic.

Now for the men, it was between Guillermo Garcia Cantu, Alexis Ayala (Juro Que Te Amo) and Alejandro Tommasi (Tormenta en el Paraiso.) Now, WAIT A FUCKING MINUTE! They nominate Alejandro Tommasi who was a weak villain but they omit whom I consider the queen (if not queen, duchess) of villainesses MAURA DURAN played by Mariana Seoane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's be real, She trumps Diana and Adamariz characters and I chose from those two because I was just making lemonade out of what was given to me (that means what I was obligated to choose from.) I didn't mentioned Cynthia's villainess much because she didn't seem evil to me; more like a jealous joke.

To Be Continued...

This is a very good topic, who should be nominated and who should win? I must admit that I get very upset when my favorite isn't nominated or if they are, they--he or she didn't win. Favoritism or behind the scenes politics? Maybe, but on the other hand, when there are several that do a great job, it's very hard to say that one is better than someone else. I'm watching La Voz
Kids and all I can say is that I'm glad that I am not a judge. They try so hard and sing so well how can you say this one sang better than that one? Often times it comes down to the song that is chosen and not the voice or the performance. Likewise with the novelas sometimes I think that it is not how well they played their part but what part it was that they played that may determine a winner.

I think th enumber of nominations going to a novela depends on the rank they have in the rating. Like the 2013 one with Abismo, Eva, Bravio, Corona, Refugio, and Cachito.

Obviously, Abismo had the highest ratings since it's a remake of a classic and stuff.
Eva has the second highest because it's the Mexican Comedy.

Bravio is the best out of this selection and deserves the 1st place but is sadly in third place.

Corona for some reason has a higher nom. number than Refugio but really deserves last or second to last.

Refugio is second to last and sadly Ignacio Sada Madero's novelas are overlooked always.
Last but certainly not least is

Cachito whom deserved better but did bad in it's timeslot. (This and Eva are in a tie for second best after Bravio in my opinion. Than it's Refugio who is in 3rd and Corona second to last. I didn't care much for Abismo os for me it's last but I thought the final was beautiful!)

Interesting comment Corazon 6:29

A true story. Some years back, my cousin was into ice skating [doubles] in a big way. He and his partner took first place, #1 in the nation in the junior division. Their first year into the adult division championships they were flat out told that there is no way [in their first year] that they would make it into the first three places or have a chance to be on the Olympic Team. Basically, you have to pay your dues and wait your turn in line. In the U.S. Championships the couple that came in ahead of my cousin and his partner fell twice while my cousin skated flawlessly but was awarded 4th place. He was told to hang in there for another four years and he would absolutely be on the Olympic squad next time. Well he couldn't afford another four years so he started teaching skating at the local rink.
Why am I saying all of this? Just to state that it isn't always pure talent--how good you are. There are other things [sometimes behind the scenes] that go into who gets the trophy, Oscar or prize.
the gringo

gringo, can you tell me your cousin's name? I'm a big fan of figure skating.
I was disappointed, that Corazon Indomable got only one award this year. And it was extremely popular. It's unbelievable for me, that no one kiss between MC and Octavio was nominated. Realy?
No secret that last year awards must get Sepeda and Ruffo. That is why Amores verdaderos wasn't nominated last year.
And it's funny when they nominated 34 old actor as a best young actor :)))

I've always looked on the thing as nothing more than a popularity contest. Since only Univision novelas are involved all other novelas many of which are superior to the Univision nominees are ignored. It's like instead of having the Emmy's which cover all channels they would be limited to ABC or HBO. The whole thing is ridiculous and Televisa does the same thing with its awards.

Decie Girl---I didn't know if I could find him, I'm not on Facebook. I typed in Douglas Varvais in the search bar and Past Champions-Los Angeles Figure
Skating Club came up. www.lafsc.org When you scroll down to Junior Pairs you will see
Lisa Cary & Doug Varvais 1974
They were super great but like I said, when they went into the adult division championships, they were told that no matter how
good you are, you will not be allowed into the top three your first time out. The couple that took third place fell twice while
Cary and Doug skated flawlessly. Nevertheless they were given fourth I think. --- So back to the novelas.
Yes, I think that the awards are rigged to some degree. As Corazon
stated, what ranking the novela ended up in may be a deciding factor as to whether any of the cast receives an award or not. Decie Girl---You said that only Univision shows get nominated, I didn't know that. That REALLY isn't fair which adds credence to
the game is rigged scenario.

Did Amor Real and Alborada win a lot of awards ? Both had specials on TV showing how they were made. Both were historical. Both were by the dynamic duo of Carla Estrada and Monica Miquel. They are my two favorite novelas , as well as the first novelas I ever watched. I think that they were popular in Mexico, but I don't know if they won many awards. If not, they should have.

They both won, Amor Real, 2004
Alborada 2006

Fernando Colunga also won best actor for both, as he should have. pitter pat, pitter pat

They are my favorites also, can't get better than that

I just checked Wiki, Both novelas took almost everything.
One surprise, Luis Roberto Guzmán did not win best villian in Alborada, I'll have to ck who did. can't imagine a better one.

2006, Sergio Goyri won best villain for Piel de otoño, I know nothing about it bur Sergio is good.

Variopinta...You and I are on the same page. I wonder if Carla and Monica will ever team up again for a historical novela. I suppose that they are expensive to make and require a lot of research. The TV shows that they made about filming these novelas might still be on YouTube.

Variopinta..yes, Sergio plays villains who are easy to despise. I still remember the end of Soy Duena in which he ends up in prison and carves an image of the leading lady....out of his wooden leg, I think ! Muy creepy.
