Qué Pobres, Martes 5/13/14 (#91): Oh my God! They killed Adolfo! You bastards!!

Alt title: A Tale of Two Guns

Oops. I screwed up a little bit. I agreed to switch nights with Jane. She asked me on Monday to do the recap "tomorrow," which of course was today, but my brain interpreted that as "Wednesday." I did see tonight's episode, but I didn't record it or take any notes.

Yeah, Adolfo is dead. Between one gun and the other we have the fingerprints of, I think, Nepo, MA, and maybe Trofeo... but not the killer, who doesn't like to get his hands that dirty.

Heh heh, it's a funny story, really. Let's go back in time...

MA convinces Nepo to let him get rid of the gun. He wraps it up in a newspaper (but I think he puts his bare hands all over it first) and sticks it in the back of his pants. He is still trying to figure out how to dispose of the weapon when Adolfo calls to meet him in what looks like the crumbled ruins of an old parking garage or maybe just a busted overpass.

Anyway, the meeting doesn't go too terribly poorly. Adolfo says he set MA up out of envy because MA's grandpa was so nasty and condescending to him. MA explains that Grandpa treated him that way, too. That's just the way he was. Adolfo says he also did it for the money, and in his place he's sure MA would have done the same thing.

At the office, Beto shows Ahole the photos he took of Vilma's apartment. The photo that interests Ahole the most shows Adolfo speaking to someone through the door. Ahole asks Beto, did you take any pictures outside the building to show people coming and going? No, Beto says... Ahole told him to take pix INSIDE Vilma's place, and he didn't dare disobey! Ahole goes to Vilma's place to investigate.

Adolfo offers to give MA the recording that implicates Ahole if, and only if, MA can get Adolfo the passport and other documents he needs to leave the country incognito. It's a tall order considering that MA has no money and few resources, but MA has no choice but to agree.

Unfortunately, as MA turns to leave, Adolfo sees the gun and assumes that MA was planning to threaten him. MA is no better than the rest of the RPs, Adolfo says. He kicks the gun out of the way but allows MA to escape with his life.

Meanwhile, Ahole goes to Vilma's house to talk to Adolfo. Over Vilma's protests, he reads the "I wuvs you" note Adolfo left behind. Ahole ridicules Vilma and has her call Adolfo to ask where she can meet with him. Vilma obliges and also lets Ahole have his gun back (she's hidden it for him ever since he shot himself in the... pants).

Ahole sneaks out with his own gun while Vilma is getting dressed or something. With this head start, he is able to get to the meeting place before Vilma. He finds Nepo's gun, and he and Adolfo chit-chat about what a rat MA is. Then, with his own gun, Ahole shoots Adolfo either once or twice. He then empties Nepo's gun (which he is holding with a cloth so as not to get his own prints on it) into Adolfo's body as well. He searches Adolfo for the incriminating recording and I think he finds it.

Vilma drives up just in time to hear the shots. She looks out the car window in surprise, but it's not clear what, if anything, she sees. Ahole hides and watches as Vilma reacts to finding Adolfo's corpse. Then he pretends that he is just arriving himself and for all he knows, maybe Vilma shot Adolfo! Ha ha, no, he doesn't really think so (but later I think he says tells her he has photos of Adolfo in her apartment, just to keep her guessing) and says surely MA did it. Vilma isn't entirely sure she believes MA is any more capable of killing someone than she is, but Ahole says anyone can kill if they're desperate enough. (Foreseeing his own demise at Vilma's hands? We'll have a long wait to find out!)

Ahole makes Vilma search Adolfo's pockets (how ironic that she doesn't get to grope him until now), and of course she doesn't find the recording. (Interesting, don't either of them notice his bag nearby?) They go back to Vilma's place and Ahole asks Vilma to hide his own gun, which he unwraps from a protective cloth before handing it to her, so that it might have her prints on it but not his.

MA meets with Saul and tells him about Nepo's gun, which he left behind with Adolfo. He thinks he ought to go back there and retrieve it...

At the same time, the police are already investigating the murder scene. They know the stiff is Adolfo. Now Detective Mrs. Gomez won't have a chance to grill him!

Also:

Lupe and Chuy are in the middle of a staring contest, an impasse during a discussion about MA, when the RPs come down for breakfast. AS and Leo try again to order a "proper" Spanish omelet in anticipation of moving to Spain. Lupe and Chuy hold their gaze. Frida tries to apologize for her family; Lupe and Chuy maintain their focus. Later, Leo whines about the unsatisfactory breakfast, but I would have poisoned him by now.

Emiliano is becoming an ever-greater pain in the butt about money and greed and spending time with his papa. He resists going to some extracurricular activity at school or maybe doing his homework (?), and he doesn't want to hang out at the gym with Grandpa. Tizoc offers to take the boy to the market, and Emiliano acts as though he likes the idea, but turns it into a bait-and-switch where if Tizoc is willing to hang out with him, they should hang out at Ahole's house instead.

Lupe reluctantly calls Ahole to arrange it, but gets the "turned off or out of service" message. Disbelieving, Emiliano takes her phone (I wonder if his secret phone still has a charge) to try the number himself, but gets the same result. (Though in Ahole's defense, he's REALLY got his hands full at the moment.) I wonder if Lupe will find it odd that he knows the number?

And now that Emiliano is legally an RP, Mati is eager to let him know she's his grandmother. She doesn't fully understand why Lupe and Frida don't want her to reveal that fact just yet.

Next Time: The avances were long, but I wasn't paying attention. I assume people react to the news of Adolfo's death...

Sorry about that. I seriously do not know how I read "tomorrow" as "two days from now." :( I would have kept much better track of the gun (who touched it with bare hands, and who didn't) as well as the incriminating recording if I hadn't had such a brain fart tonight!!

But what really struck me tonight was the timing and circumstances of Adolfo's murder. All this time we've thought that Vilma would eventually split with Ahole over money, but if she ever finds out that Ahole killed Adolfo, that might be Ahole's last day on planet Earth. She won't just throw him under the bus. She'll DRIVE the bus. And the bus wil be made out of scorpions and it will have pointy spikes on the wheels dripping with poison.

On the other hand, I can't SWEAR she didn't see Ahole shoot Adolfo. We saw her reaction to hearing the gunshots, and she was looking in that general direction, but we don't know what she saw. Ahole? Ahole's shadow? Nothing?

If she did see anything, she's doing an amazing job of pretending not to know what Ahole did.

Julie:

You got the gist of this epi. This is fantastic, the other stuff was just bits and pieces of mainly nothing.

I agree with what you said about Adolfo and this title is perfect! Vilma didn't see a thing. I think she assumed it was Ahole that shot Adolfo cause he left her place with that gun. She never thought of MA until Ahole mentioned him. I hope she sticks with her gut instinct that MA couldn't have done this. She knows how Ahole was always trying to throw Adolfo under the bus. She needs to watch her back.

Ahole didn't take MA's gun. He left it there, hoping the cops would find it and it would incriminate MA. We didn't see what happened to the gun, the cops didn't find it either. Ahole took his own gun back to Vilma's. I really hope Adolfo had more than one of those thumb drives. I hope he left more of them to incriminate Ahole. Oh, but Ahole kept that handkerchief he wrapped the gun in, when he fired it. It has to be full of gunshot residue. May he never wash it!

Emi is starting to feel entitled. He wants what all the other boys have and if he doesn't get it right then he gets surly with Lupe and his Abuelo Chuy. He was downright rude. I hope he straightens out. He is becoming a mini Ahole!

Thanks again Julie for this great part one!

This was great, Julie! I love the title and it echos my sentiments. I actually kind of liked Adolfo.

I thought "I wuvs you" note was funny and though not part of the recap "She'll DRIVE the bus. And the bus wil be made out of scorpions and it will have pointy spikes on the wheels dripping with poison." is hilarious. I hope it comes true.

OK, it's done now. Thanks Mads for clearing up about the guns - I fixed it in the recap.

I didn't add much except the following:

- Beto's photos of Adolfo talking to someone at Vilma's door

- Chuy and Lupe having a staring contest

- Emiliano's little manipulation to get Tizoc to go to Ahole's house

I'm sure I missed some stuff, but I can't remember anything else. Hopefully it's nothing important.

Oh, did Diego walk in on Nepo and MA with the gun at the beginning and help MA convince Nepo to hand it over? I was only half-watching at that point.

I do hope Vilma doesn't go so far as to actually kill Ahole, but I really think he dug his own grave last night.

Julie, I absolutely loved your title! (being the longtime South Park fan I am) The recap is great as is since you covered all of the highlights.

Madelaine, I loved your comment about Emiliano becoming a mini Ahole. Emiliano is starting to be annoying. I sure hope MA tells Lupita about Alejo seeing Emiliano at school already. She seemed to notice how easily and quickly he dialed his father's number.

Too bad we had to have any murder in this comedy but I guess that is how it goes these days. Anyway, I sure hope Vilma puts it all together and brings Alejo down and runs him over with Julie's bus. Very funny.

My favorite scene last night was AS and family discussing the money problems with the wedding. Loved Frida telling AS to call her "novio" don Salomon and ask for a loan. Don Salomon has AS's number calling her "juguetoncita" (too playful in his mind) with her money. Also said he'd explain it all to her in "itañol".

Faced with the Menchacas catering the whole wedding, Leonardo had the funniest response in his own take on a proverb: " Aunque la mona se vista de seda, Menchaca (mona) se queda. ". (You can dress them up even in silk, but they will still be the Menchacas!)

I was sure glad that MA got the gun away from Nepo but that gun is still out there with his fingerprints on it.
The loose ends are starting to multiply!

Jarifa

Aren't Nepo's prints on the gun too?

OK, yeah, I missed the wedding conversation entirely.

Nepo's prints may still be on the gun unless they got smeared beyond recognition by MA's hands. And MA's own prints might be smeared beyond recognition after Ahole held it with the cloth.

On the other hand, Nepo's prints (or Trofeo's??) could be on the shell casings or whatever you call those things that clatter to the ground when you fire the gun...

I'm not sure how I feel about this turn of events. I am going to have faith that although there's been a murder, it won't get too dark.

I have a question about the scenes as they cut to commercial. Is that action that already took place? I just ask since I've missed a lot.

Julie thanks so much for your great recap. I loved your description of Vilma's possible vengeance against Alejo.

For the past few episodes, Alejo has been getting incriminating evidence on Vilma and I see him throwing her under the bus very soon. Perhaps in jail she'll realize it was him and turn on him (and Saul can be her lawyer) - all conjecture.

Sad watching what Cathyx called the bratification of Em.

Yes Sara Nepo prints should be on the gun and casings as well.

I enjoyed this recap more than the episode. For some reason I didn’t think Alejo would be capable of killing anyone – so it struck me when he killed Adolfo. Especially that he basically emptied the gun on him without remorse. Then suggesting to Vilma that even she may have killed him for all he knows…. I hope Vilma is smart enough to figure out he is the killer. When she first arrived I don’t think she saw anything but may have just been shocked to hear the gunshots. Hopefully as she gets over her shock she starts connecting the dots. Alejo knew where Adolfo was, he left before she did, and he had a gun and motive to kill him.

The scenes before the commercial breaks have not happened yet. it looks like they are on vacation.

Thank you Anon1045. I will look forward to it then. Glad it's not action I missed :)

Baby Ayden Jabari (means brave in Egyptian) Phillips Ramos born May 13 12:29pm, 8 lb 4 oz 19 in.
Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and good thoughts... everything went wonderful, my daughter said it was night and day from first time around. baby breastfeeding great. Everyone in great health. family expected home tomorrow.
I caught the episode last night then watched the 2nd half of the basketball game... thanks Julie for the recap! i will read it i a bit.

When this thing first started, I didn't think Adolfo would ever kill anyone because he didn't seem to like getting his hands dirty.

But when he took the gun out to the bungalow where Mini was having her tryst with MA, and shot himself in the... pants, I realized that he was not only willing to get his hands dirty as long as it's gunpowder, but might even have a bloodthirsty streak.

Still, it's one thing to shoot someone once or twice and another thing to fill them with lead.

I wonder, when Ahole went to the hospital with his... injury, did they recover the bullet? I mean, do the police have it? Because one or two out of the many bullets in Adolfo's body will match that one.

Short-term, maybe that doesn't help much since Ahole told the police that MA had sent some thugs after him that time. So it'll look like MA's peeps also hit Adolfo, which doesn't help MA at all.

But if the Detectives Gomez take a closer look at THAT dubious story, the alleged drive-by shooting, they just might figure out who REALLY fired that particular gun on that day... and that will tell them who REALLY killed Adolfo.

Congratulations, Marta. I'm so glad to hear that it went so smoothly!

Congrats Marta! I'm glad mother and baby are doing well.

Congrats Marta. Happy to hear things went well and now you have another nieto!!

The scene with Emi, Lupe, Chuy and then Leo and AS walk in and sit at a different table, this is what I remember:
Emi and Lupe are talking about Emi’s shoes that are ripped and he wants shoes as good as his friends at school have them. Lupe tells him she has always managed for him to be dressed good enough. Emi says but it is not the type of clothes and shoes other kids at that school wear, and he knows he would only need to ask his dad to get ‘good’ new shoes (So he is becoming the bratt very quickly). Lupe says she has made sacrifices to have him go to that school because she wants him to go get education and go further than she did (career-wise that is). Emiliano insists he can ask his dad for money for school too. Lupe is in a bind when Chuy comes in and tries to lecture some sense back into Emi about what’s really important. In come AS and Leo and sit at another table and all they are talking about is how well they used to have it as rich people, that rich people live so nicely, and that now all they have is this porca miseria. Emiliano is hearing all this just after Lupe and CHuy tried to bring him back to his senses… so both Chuy and Lupe nag at AS and Leo about what they are saying.
And regarding the shooting of Adolfo. A-hole shot Adolfo with his own gun first while Adolfo was standing. All the other shots were at an angle (A-hole was behind Adolfo’s feet) so it would be easy for a forensics doctor to tell which shot came first, and that bullet came from a different gun. I know that MA, Nepo and Vilma’s prints are in that gun. Saul and MA have good reason to be alarmed.
A-hole knew that Vilma had grown fond of Adolfo so he is blaming it on MA, Vilma knows enough about MA to know he would not go as far as murder. A-hole tries to say anyone would… but Vilma keeps doubting so A-hole ends up sort of warning her that he could get her tangled in the murder plot but no one can tangle him. So she needs to do as he says or else…

i am trying to change the profile picture to the baby and big brother. but meanwhile you can check my facebook page, 'Marta Montalvo-Ramos' to see the pix.

Marta !que guapo! Beautiful pictures of your new grandson and his family.

If anyone is experiencing porca miseria, it's the Menchacas. Listening to AS and Leo with their nasty rotten nonsense all the time.

Congratulations on the nietito, Marta!

And thanks, Julie. Agree with your title! I would have liked for Adolfo and Vilma to have more time together. Although I think that he won her allegiance thoroughly in that short time. When Ahole showed up at her apartment, she had no interest in him anymore. No attempts at seducing him, no slavish devotion to him; she only barely let herself get coerced into cooperating with him at all. She was trying to protect Adolfo and Ahole had clearly become much less to her. I hope she sticks with that and figures out that he killed Adolfo. I hope she does drive that bus, just as described!

Emiliano is turning horrible really fast. Ahole's influence is quite virulent. I wanted to ground him, make him wear rags, and take away his desserts for a month when he made that nasty face after Lupe's great mom speech about how she'd worked hard to make sure he never lacked anything he needed and he must treat her with respect.

AS is about the rudest person in existence. Her thinking she's classy just proves the breadth and depth of her delusions.

Oh, to answer question, yes, Diego Armando walked into Nepo's office and was shocked to see him with the gun and convinced him to hand it over.

I'm not quite ready to throw Emiliano down a well just yet, but I can just imagine the boy running away from home to move in with Ahole, and soon regretting it. Ahole can be nicey-nice for short periods of time, but how about a solid week around the kid?

He'd spend too much time with him and end up losing his temper, or he'd have a nanny (or Beto or Vilma) watch the boy instead. Either way, Emiliano would eventually become disillusioned as he tries to decide whether it's better to impress his friends with brand name shoes while enduring a lonely home life, or wearing Kmart shoes and coming home to people who are always glad to see him.

(If anyone can tip the scales on that decision, it would be Mati.)

Felicidades, Marta!!!! :)

Thanks so much for the recap, Julie. I came home and turned on the tv just as Alejo was pumping Adolfo full of lead, and I could not believe it! OMG! Alejo is having a very good week-- he's killed Adolfo, prevented him from helping the bad guys, and is able to frame almost half the cast for the murder, AND he's managed to turn Emi into a brat. He must be stopped.

Julie, thanks for last night's recap. Marta, good news that all went well with the arrival of the new nieto. Also thanks for the last few recaps that I haven't mentioned. I don't want to be an ingrate like Emiliano.

Hard to believe the show would let Adolfo be killed. Hoped that Vilma could get help to save him. I wanted him to back up MA and romance Vilma. If she can't have Adolfo, at least let her take down Alejo.

Emiliano probably needs to learn that he's really not that important to his dad, painful though it may be.

Wasn't AnaSofi's apology to the Menchacas the lamest ever? Good luck getting them to help with the wedding.

Marta, congratulations on your new grandson.

Jarifa

When she asks (or tells) the Menchacas to work at the wedding, I'm sure AS's angle will be, "If I can't pull off this wedding, I won't be able to give you the 300,000 pesos that my disappointing son stole from you."

I don't know if even that will work, though. They have no moral obligation to help her. Anyway, it might be more fun to see what she'll resort to if the Menchacas refuse!

Julie - ¡muchissimas gracias!
Marta- ¡Congrats!
I had hoped that Vilma would change her ways and find love with Adolfo. Now that that possibility is shot (!), maybe Saul will come to her assistance and love will come to both of them???

Julie - I agree that Mati is going to help change Emiliano's attitude. Maybe she'll let him know how Alejo treated her before MA rescued her from that place. I'm also thinking that Mati will be instrumental in clearing up things with the old guys on the board of El Editorial. (Is that what the business is called?)

I don't think Mati has to tell Emiliano anything. I think he'll just miss her so much that he'll want to come home.

I'm sure he'll miss the rest of his family too, but he is more likely to take Lupita and Chuy for granted, or be angry with them for being poor. Or he'll be too ashamed to apologize to them for his crummy attitude. Mati is extra-special to him, though, and they have that unique bond.

I hope that when the Menchacas get hold of that million buckeroos, Lupita puts Emiliano in a different school with better security and students who aren't so obsessed with brand status and conspicuous consumption.

I hope Adolfo left another copy of the drive somewhere. Maybe in Vilma's apartment? I also hope the detectives check both Vilma and Ahole for gunpowder residue.

Maybe Vilma will find a copy of that recording under her pillow tonight. :-)

What Adolfo held up in his hand to warn A-hole about the recording was a mini tape recorder. what A-hole destroyed last night looked more like a key drive. Was that the storage device of the mini recorder? not sure A-hole destroyed the one and ONLY copy of the recording, as he thinks... maybe Adolfo left something hidden in Vilma's apt that she will find later on, that is a good option Julie.

As far as Emiliano coming back to his senses, I agree that Mati might have to do with it, but he better be sorry and appologize to his mother from his heart, since she is the one he is hurting the most.

Well, it seems Emiliano and Mati had the talk that I'd been anticipating last night. Will that be enough to debrattify him so that no one has to throw him down a well?

Marta, I noticed the same thing - last night Ahole destroyed a flash drive (I have one that looks just like it). But I'm pretty sure he took the microcassette recorder from Adolfo's body too. (Or was it his phone? You'd think he would have taken his phone too.)

Maybe the flash drive had incriminating data on it.

Adolfo would have to have been crazy not to make lots of copies of everything.

Adolfo had an overnight bag or something, too. Did Ahole search that? I didn't see him do that, but like I said, I didn't realize I'd be recapping. :-P

Maybe he took a lot of things that we didn't get to see. :-)

Oh, yeah, and we saw last night that Ahole did keep Nepo's gun after all and didn't leave it at the crime scene. For what it's worth, I'll take that out of my recap where it says Ahole left the gun at the scene for the police to find...

I guess the police will find the card that MA gave Adolfo with his phone number and the suggestion that they meet??

was wondering that too, Ann.

That's why I thought perhaps Ahole searched Adolf more thoroughly than what we saw. He would have wanted to make sure there wasn't any more evidence on Adolfo that pointed to Ahole.

On the other hand, it'd be in his best interests to leave that card with Adolfo for the police to find.

Say, do we know what was on the other side of that card? I hope it wasn't Tomas's business card! Or Saul's. Or from the fonda.

Come to think of it, I wouldn't put it past Ahole to have added some things to Adolfo's personal effects, too. Things that could implicate Vilma, for example. Who knows what he was doing during the commercial break??

Julie:

I too saw that Ahole kept MA's gun after all, the question is what is Ahole gonna do with it now for the police to find it? The bag was left at the crime scene. I know that for sure. It was behind the police man that was talking to Agente Gomez.

Ahole was wondering if that was really MA's gun. I guess he wants to be sure before he lets anyone else find it. Or perhaps he is planning to do more mischief with it first.

Since Vilma already has Ahole's gun, he can continue whacking people with Nepo's and Vilma won't suspect anything.

I'm disappointed that Vilma was so quick to forget about Adolfo and return her loyalty to Ahole.

Oh well. Someone else can drive the scorpion bus.

Looking forward to last night's recap. I missed most of it, but it looks like it was a good one.

Is there going to be a recap of last night's? I need to discuss Leo and Diego Armando!

Didn't Da Vinci disappear on last night' show? Should we be worried about him?
Do you guys get the feeling that Jonathan Gomez is still feeling sympathetic to MA (unlike his wife who thinks MA is totally guilty)? I think I remember Jonathan saying that if he were in MA's predicament he would run, too.

I'm anxious to read about Leo and Diego too.

Last week's recap was posted after 4pm, so maybe that's the earliest that Ezra can do it. The 10pm time slot is brutal. :-(

Me, I'd like to talk about Mati and Emiliano. AND Diego and Leo. AND MA and Lupita. AND Vilma. And don't even get me started on the avances for tonight!!

If DaVinci disappeared, it must have been when... oh right, when I dozed off. Heh. Well, if he did disappear, I wouldn't worry about him... he probably has the best survival skills of any RP family member.

Jon Gomez does seem to be more open-minded about MA than Jennifer is, yes. They have already approached Ahole so many times that I'd like to see them start taking the Columbo approach with him, forcing him to play innocent until the fatigue wears him down.

i agree that Jonathan is not as quick to name MA as THE murderer. i think jennifer is jumping to conclusions a bit too early for a cop. just because A-hole is blaming all on MA and trying to point the cops at MA for everything that even smells illegal does not mean MA is the only person of interest they should investigate. after all, in most murder investigations, the spouse is high on the suspect list until they are proven an alibi or have other evidence that proves someone else did it (like dna evidence in a rape kit).

now I am beginning to wonder if the money laundering using El Editorial (by the way Editorial here is a publishing company. in this case mostly publishing magazine periodicals, but could publish books/one-ofs too) started before MA came back to Mex... if it started after that meeting when Bambi became an investor in the company (which is the meeting when MA saw Bambi for first time) then they could point to MA (which is the probable scenario since MA managed his own and Bambi's investments). if it started earlier then MA was not in the picture yet, they need to check the company balance books to see the time frames.

within the publishing company that A-hole is head of at the moment, Mini was allowed/given the role of Director of the fashion magazine. (one of the periodical products of the publishing company)
