Que Pobres Tan Ricos #103: 5/29/14: If I Had a Million Dollars!

Hola Amiguis! Mr. Mads and I took a mini vacay, I have caught up with all the recaps and am now raring to go! Shall we begin with an earworm? It's especially for AS: Keep On Smilin'

Mati is calming knitting as Leo is talking about the ship sinking and the pirates are boarding. Sucks to be Leo.

MA goes upstairs and checks on AS, who of course, is passed out from all that hooch she's been guzzling. AS finally wakes up and cries about the wedding being her salvation and last hope. Her birthday is coming up and she's poor, porca miseria! She's lost her society friends, I'd think she'd think of them as frenemies, she vants to be alone. The family leaves her thus.

MA is telling Frida and Leo about going to prove his innocence and Leo wants to know in what parallel universe this will happen in, cause it sure isn't happening in this one. MA asks them to please keep an eye on AS.

Ahole now thinks he has a stake in the Menchaca home because Dona Mati has disappeared.

MA and Lupe are talking when Don Chuy comes upon them. MA says he doesn't want to bother Don Chuy, but Don C. is glad that MA is there, what with all this familia trouble. Don C understands. Ahole ends up calling Lupe and MA and Don C are on the same page, they cannot stand the guy.

Frida cries when Tizoc comes upon her. She's very sad, but Tizoc is over the moon, what with this Manager of bands having found him and the guy gets 20% I think, or Tizoc is razzing Frida about her 20%. Frida holds a picture and cries. Leo finds her there and says he is going to the pharmacy for some pills or something.

At the Popular Cafe, MA is meeting Mini and she is a bit pushy, er effusive and she's acting strangely.

Lupe is at Ahole's office and she isn't signing this paperwork until she can get her lawyer, Tomas, to look at it, she doesn't trust Ahole. He wants conditions and he has something to ask Lupe. He wants to know how long Don Chuy and La Menchacas have been living in that house in La Nopalera? Well, since Lupe was born, all of kids were born there, so they have been there many years. So Ahole tells her that house doesn't belong to Don Chuy or the Menchaca, it belongs to Dona Mati, whose name is all over the papers for this house. Lupe just goes along with what he says.

Leo is all down in the dumps and sitting on a park bench, when Deigo sneaks up behind him, Leo thinks it's another stick up and tells whoever is behind him, he only has a phone, no lana. Deigo lets Leo know it is only him and they commence to have a chat. Deigo knows that Leo is getting the annulment and his marriage is null and void. He asks Leo to think about him, ya know, what he told him before about how he felt about Leo, what does Leo say? Leo's confused! Deigo tells him to think about it and Leo goes as Deigo grins.

Ahole is talking more legal mumbo jumbo to Lupe, he gives her more papers, and she'll give them all to Tomas.

AS and Frida are together, when AS is trying to get Frida to lasciami (abandon, leave) her. You see AS is having a pity party for one, while we on the Patio are playing that small violin with our thumb and pinky finger, telling ourselves are hearts bleed for her, que lastima, not! Don C., bless his giving heart, has just the thing, a bowl of soup to ease her hangover, try some, it's good for what ails you. Well, AS lets loose with a barrage of her woes. The Menchacas weren't humiliated, didn't have their honor taken or their prestige for that matter, at this wedding! QUE, QUE, WHAT????? Don C has had enough of her lip, so to speak, and lets loose on her. Don C lets her know he has had just about enough of her insults, and bad behavior, especially towards his familia and himself and demands respect from her. She isn't being happy being spoken to in this way. Don C. could give a tinker's damn. She will show respect. Frida also tells her too bad, cause this is NOT their house, it is the Menchaca home. Frida tries to get AS to eat.

Ahole must have been wanting to marry Lupe again, cause she turns him down flat, thinks it's a joke. Neva gonna happen y punto! But, but he loves Emi and one day all of this will be his. That's as may be, but neva gonna happen. Ahole is not a happy camper.

Mini and MA are still at the Popular Cafe when she has an idea. Take stuff or steal Vilma's computer. She is sure to know exactly what Ahole is up to. MA wants to go now, and Mini assures him she is on the up and up and won't blackmail him. MA gets a call, while Mini makes herself heard in the background and thinks to herself that must be the fry cook he's talking to (Lupe).

After Lupe gets back from meeting Ahole, she has a chat with MA. She's worried that Ahole is going to kick the familia to the curb, if she doesn't comply with what he wants, and what about what they already signed with the house? Don C comes and MA says he needs a chat with him.

Okay now. Lupe knew all about this clause, cause MA explained it to her, but Don C HAD NO IDEA! Now he knows and he's pithed no one bothered to tell him about the 1 million dollar Grandfather clause. Well, now he knows! MA begs his pardon and now the hunt is on for those papers. They ask Mati, who finally recognizes Lupe as having worked for Don A at El Editorial, back in the day, she quit her job at El Editorial and that Emi is Ahole's son. So now everyone in the familia is looking for these papers, except of course for AS. Even Carmelita helps out. Where do they look, well in the Fridge and under the kitchen sink, Leo does that. They also check the bathroom as a last resort, cause Mati mentioned having the papers in the bathroom by Perla's creme. They even checked the drains, no papers. All Mati knows for sure is that they are safe, wherever they are. Lupe even checks out Emi's room. Even MA tries to do subliminal messages to her, like documents, legal papers, etc. Still has no idea where they are. The long and short of it, the search is a bust.

Tizoc goes to meet that Manager, his name is Perez and he will do alot for Tizoc and the band. Tizoc is over the moon.

Nepo is at his stand in the market all happy with the juice sales and Deigo comes with a happy go lucky smile and Nepo deduces things must be going well with the little lady and Nepo tells Deigo he is just like his Papa, a conqueror of womens.

Vilma is giving Ahole a neck massage and telling him to be calm and not to let that Guadalumpe get to him, after all there is that property and hey, maybe they could take that from her familia.

After this search for the papers, MA and familia meet with AS, who is still in porca miseria. She thought she'd spend her next birthday in Spain or Europe and they sing the Happy Birthday song together in Italian. They all go while AS cries and sips from her flask of hooch.

Lupe tells MA she is going to have Tomas look at those papers that Ahole gave her, about Emi and the custody deal.

Mini and Isela have a chat and Mini tells Isela she won't be manipulated and that Vilma is the key to the Innocence Project. Then she'll have MA in her hands.

Lupe and Tomas are at El Editorial and are going to have a meeting with Ahole about the custody terms of Ahole's. Mini follows Tomas.

As the search was going on for those papers. Carmelita and Don C were talking and he tells her all about that 1 million dollar Grandfather Clause, too bad Leo is on the steps listening.

Lupe has gone into Ahole's office and Mini and Isela ask Melina who that was going into Ahole's office and she tells them Guadalupe Menchaca. Mini is fit to be tied. Mini tells Isela this is the Mama of that "bastardo" and the one MA is in love with!

Tomas and Lupe are meeting with Vilma and Ahole, and she isn't signing those papers. Ahole wants Emi to live with him part of the time. Ahole is miffed at Lupe because she never told him about Emi's existence. Vilma is talking down to Tomas, like he can't equal her and doesn't have the proper education, but you see Tomas does. Ahole is firm that he will not be without his son any longer.

So Mini is still pithed that both Ahole and MA are after this same little fry cook. Isela warns Mini not to confront but to use this to her advantage.

Leo tells AS and Frida about the 1 million dollars. Leo thinks he can have it to get out of this miserable place. AS wants to find those papers and Frida's phone rings, it's MA.

Nepo and Trofeo are in the Banana King's Castle, counting out his money, and Trofeo is really pleased with all the money they have made from MA's juice idea. Nepo doesn't wanna hear it.

We are back to the custody contretemps and Lupe will give in to Ahole having Emi next week for a visit. Lupe doesn't want Emi to be affected. Ahole just wants lots of time with Emi and Lupe told him about punishing Emi for going off with Ahole without her knowledge. So for now Ahole gets a visit next week.

Trofeo meets with that gun owner, ya know, the guy he borrowed that gun from to give to Nepo, and MA ended up taking it. Well, this guy has heard that this gun was used to kill a guy and now they could be up the creek. Nepo listens to the convo and his wheels spin.

The RPs are arguing over these missing papers. MA is trying to be the voice of reason. MA explains to AS that this money is not theirs, but the Menchaca's. Tizoc and Perla are outside the Penthouse door and hear all, and Leo and AS are so not happy!

AVANCES:

Nepo gives Lupe a wanted bulletin on MA.

Ahole and MA meet face to face, or do they?

Good Morning Y'all!

I've missed all of you and am glad I am back! Please enjoy the recap and please let me know if I missed anything. I left a scene out with Tizoc and the band I think.

Madelaine, thanks for the fantastic recap and ear worm. I was laughing through much of it especially the "que que what?"

High points:

It is funny but the more despondent AS becomes the more she speaks Italian. I loved the family singing "Happy Birthday" to her in Italian (tanti auguri a te) and her blowing out the invisible candle on her flask.

Don Chuy finally losing his temper with AS. Yikes! The "gacela" has finally lost her glow so to speak. This could be good for Carmelita. I liked when don Chuy told her lots of people were worse off than her but still managed to get up everyday and put forth effort to face life with hope and love.

Leonardo admitting he does feel something for Diego but doesn't quite know what it is. It was so funny how his declaration was barely audible and Diego had to have him repeat it until he could hear it.

The search for the house papers! I felt sorry for MA when doña Mati told him the reason she hid them was because of him and the ambitious look he had just like Alejo. He can't catch a break and now to be compared to Alejo. I liked when doña Mati said she had a bad memory but wasn't stupid.

Isela and Minerva scurrying around in their high heels. The sound reminded me of insects (cucarachas--could Alejo be right???? LOL) running on a hard surface.

Low points:

The gun issue.

Everyone knowing about the value of the Menchaca house and property.

I hope that the beach trip we are being teased with in the promos happens soon before it all hits the fan.

Jarifa

LOVED LOVED the title, Mads! now on to the reading...

Mads,
a couple explanations... the second folder with the second paper Ahole gave to Lupe might be a very ellaborate marriage proposal (not the 'marry me' but the 'if you marry me you and your whole family will get all this...' type of thing). Lupe started reading it and maybe as soon as she read the word 'marriage' she got miffed and gave the folder back...

And about the 'week' what Ahole wanted was more time with Emiliano, possibly even more than 50% since he had been 'deprived' of even knowing of Emiliano's existence until now.
What Lupe wants to give him is just a couple days more than the original proposed schedule from Lupe and Tomas. So Ahole protests.
Lupe says well, until we reach an agreement and it is resolved, I will arrange some time for you two to get together next week, but I will be there with you. (not giving him a week but promising some Emi-Ahole bonding time next week).

I am certain the papers are in Mati's purse, along with all her identifications... which is alarming since if she loses her purse or the purse ends up in the hands of Mini, Vilma or Ahole, there will go the hopes of resolving that... Remember MA told AS that Mati's documents were all in her purse (id, passport, etc), so my question is 'why would MA not find the papers too when he checked??'

LOVED LOVED the way Tomas confronted Vilma with his singular language, but very firm and secure of himself... go Tomas!

I am beginning to visualize Tomas/Vilma as a couple, even though I know it won't happen... Vilma needs someone to take her down from her high horse, and I don't think Saul can do that. he will end up submissive to her.

btw, that birthday song was not in spanish, it sounded more like french or german. The 'to you' parts sounded something like 'de ti' or stte, so i dont think it is french... maybe italian?.

Have you guys seen this?? its coming! real time translator of video between languages! now where were these people when I was translating Corazon salvaje, Cafe, Betty la Fea, etc word for word by hand?? LOL!!

Good Morning Y'all:

Thanks so much for the added pieces. I fixed the recap for the Italian, I am red faced, because I know Italian more than Spanish! Also thanks for the correction about the visitation. I'm glad it's only a visit next week and not a whole week : )

Jarifa:

Thanks so much for your high and low points. I too was amazed now everyone knows about that 1 million dollar clause. I had to laugh at Leo thinking he is entitled as AS thinks she is too. I'm glad Mati "hid" those papers so well, she can't "remember" where they are! Oh, so agree with you about Mini and Isela's heels. I am surprised one of them hasn't twisted their ankle and sprained it, although Mini came close the other night.

Marta:

Thanks so much for the added bits. I too think that Mati is leading them on about those papers. I hope though, they end up in the right hands and not Ahole's. That would be a disaster. Vilma and Tomas? I think more Saul and Vilma. To me Vilma and Saul would have a fab time : ) I think Mini would be great with Tomas. They would be a hoot.

Now on to the subliminal messages that MA was doing with Mati. I really laughed at that cause Kevin Nealon from SNL was a master of that. He would do a "newscast" and throw in phrases, and that reminded me of what MA was doing.

Excellent recap, Mads! Welcome back.

I am also not pleased that some of these characters now know about the million $ clause. And it seems that AS has learned nothing. Time for some tough love. I wish Lupe would told Chuy that AS stole the money too, not MA.

I think Mati did hide the docs somewhere, because I remember her telling Emi about it long ago. I can't remember if she actually shared with him where she put it. I still think it's possible she buried it somewhere in her old house when she took the cab there that time.

Vivi:

I think Emi may know where those papers are, cause I remember her telling Emi, it was their little secret. She had switched the papers up with some drawings Emi had done. He went along with her and he could know where they are. No one has asked Emi or not asked the right questions : )

Mads welcome back. I hope you enjoyed your vaca like we enjoyed your recap.

It is sad that AS is still herself but not surprising.

I find Alejo's continued delusion that Lupe would ever want him a bit amusing. It's really sad he doesn't realize the ONLY person who is blinded by his "charms" is Vilma.

And what will it take for Vilma to actually come clean. I think Alejo may throw her to the wolves and if she finds out he killed her one true love, then things could get interesting.

Vivi, my bet is the papers are in her purse or at the old house, like you said.

Karen:

I too find it funny that Ahole thinks he's Dios gift to women. It cracks me up and I feel for Vilma every time she removes her glasses and goes into her sexy pose to get his attention! I too am worried he is going to either Option A throw her under the bus or Option B she finds out he killed Adolfo and then look out for venganza from Vilma! I don't think she will eva let that go.

Thanks, Madelaine! I hope your vacation was fantastic, but we are glad you are back, too!

Did Leo mutter to Frida that he was going to the pharmacy for antidepressants?

Tizoc told Frida he was going to negotiate with the music guy himself instead of paying a manager 10% or 20%. I hope he has a better idea of what are good terms for a contract than I think he has. I think he should have hired Tomas to advise him on it, at the very least. Also a bit disappointed that he didn't seem to notice or care how upset Frida was. What was the picture she was looking at? I didn't get a good look at it.

Glad Chuy finally had enough of AS's snobby bitchitude. Now if he could just find out that she is the one who stole the money and not MA...

I don't know that it really matters if AS and Leo know about the million dollar deal. Even if they find those papers, they can't exactly go claim the money themselves, can they? Though it does make me shake my head that they think it will be theirs. Oy. Will they learn anything before the last week of the show?

Julia:

Now that makes sense about the antidepressants. He did say pills.

Thanks also for the clarification on the deal with that manager Perez. I too hope Tizoc isn't so blinded by the chance of fame he messes this up. I too want him to get Tomas to look at the contract.

I couldn't see which picture Frida was holding either. They didn't show it.

The only ones that can claim that 1 million dollars is Don Chuy or another Menchaca. The RPs are well out of it. It was explained in the Grandfather clause for the deed to the house. The sticking point though, is the house must be paid off first. I do remember that from MA and Saul's convo. The Menchaca aren't quite out of the woods yet.

Oh, I just remembered, after AS stole that money, which was the last payment on the house, MA signed over the house to the Menchaca. The only thing left now is to find those papers giving the 1 million dollars to the Menchaca.

Madelaine, thanks for refreshing my memory abut the house being already signed over to the Menchacas. There is so much time that passes between important events it is sometimes hard t remember.

Jarifa

Yes, the Menchacas have paid off the house and the papers were signed to make it official. They still owe the money to Nepo, but that has nothing to do with the grandfather clause.

The picture Frida was looking at was of the Menchaca family. Perhaps she was thinking of how happy they looked there and comparing it to her family and all the depressing stuff they are going through (just my guess). Tizoc was very insensitive when he walked in though, she was clearly upset and he couldn’t even ask her what was wrong. I felt bad for her and Leo, they both looked so sad. Leo did say he was going to get anti-depressants, but I’m not sure he ever made it to the pharmacy, perhaps his anti-depressant came in the form of a fútbol player….

Also when Leo told Frida and AS about the million dollars they all jumped to the conclusion that they were entitled to it because it was left by their grandfather, that’s why MA had to clarify to them that the money was for the owners of the house, (the Menchacas).

If MA ever does prove his innocence, I wonder what is left of the family fortune. What will they get back? Some properties that may be in bad shape from lack of maintenance? How much money will they have left? I had the impression that even before the fraud charges, MA was concerned about the finances because AS was spending it like there was no tomorrow and encouraging Leo and Frida to do the same. She seemed to think they had unlimited money and MA seemed more like, "we're rich, but there are still limits!"

Although maybe if their investments are just sitting there earning money while AS is unable to spend any, the funds could be building back up a bit.

thanks for the recap Madeline!

I know MA had signed the property over to the Menchacas a while back, but I wonder if that was even legal. Since the property is on Mati's name and the person that has guardianship or power of attorney for Mati is Alejo (or so I think) I'd guess he should have been the one that needed to sign those documents. Even when the Menchacas find them, I don't think it will be that easy to cash in on those documents.

Evelin

Anon 2:24:

Thanks about what picture that Frida was looking at. I too think she wishes they were her familia. Tizoc can be a dunderhead sometimes. I too wished he had asked Frida what was wrong.

Jarifa:

Sometimes I remember these things as I comment. This Grandfather clause I think will be important down the road. I don't want Ahole to have Lupe make a choice, just a guess not a spoiler.

Thanks, Mads. I hope you enjoyed your mini-vacation!

Chuy's outburst at AS was really cathartic... for me! AS thinks the Menchacas have never been humiliated or lost their prestige? Maybe someday Chuy will tell her about the Hijo de Sumatra's final night in the ring.

I think the idea for Mini to steal Vilma's computer was actually Saul's. IIRC, Saul wanted MA to seduce Mini; MA countered that Saul should be working on Vilma; Saul counter-countered, that MA should get Mini to steal Vilma's computer.

I doubt that the missing papers are in Mati's purse, because on the day of the wedding, MA told AS that he had already seen that Mati had all of the necessary paperwork (to go to Spain) in her purse. I think he would have noticed the missing documents. So I still believe Mati those papers at the old house on the day that she snuck out on Perla.

(No, she didn't tell Emiliano where they were. Their "little secret" is just the fact that he swapped them out with some drawings, and she left it at that.)

Ah yes, Episode 62: "Don't worry about them," she reassures Emil. "I put them somewhere no one will find them. They're like a treasure map!"

Evelin, I think you're right about the (lack of) legality of Mati's signature. However, given that Mati was being over-medicated on Alejo's orders when he assumed power of attorney, I think his power can be revoked... eventually.

Julia:

I wonder this myself about the RP lana. Ahole has mixed it, I think, with the El Bambi lana, although Ahole has accounts in the Cayman Islands that Frida set up. It will be a huge mess to find out where all the money went before this is all over. I know AS has money of her own, that she was spending like crazy. The El Editorial lana goes to whoever runs that company. Ahole isn't running it yet, as far as the lana is concerned. Only when he marries and he has that son. He's working on it though ; )

Julia, you really did bring up a good point. This El Editorial clause says that whoever runs the El Editorial must be married and have a son. So, I know Ahole has the one, but not the other, as in marriage. MA may still be line to get El Editorial after he proves his innocence, that is, if Lupe were to become preggers. I don't think the clause was about who married first, or who had the child first.

Evelin:

Good point about that paperwork. I too thought about Ahole protesting this signed paperwork. But then again, MA has proof, those medical tests on Mati, that Ahole had Mati drugged out of her mind. I think in the end, if they get a really honest judge, Ahole will lose this one. It's just getting to that point, not a spoiler just a guess.

Julie:

Our comments crossed and you make a good point about those papers. Now I think that maybe Mati did hide them in her old home. Oh, noes, someone lives there now!

Also good point about Mati's signature on that deed, but I think in the end, not a spoiler, just a guess that Ahole will lose this round, in view of those medical tests done by MA on Mati when he sprang her from the home and also from all the doctors' visits since, saying she is fine and doesn't have Alzheimer's like Ahole claimed she did.

Leo wants to be royalty so bad, he should just admit his real feelings, marry Diego, and become El Principezuqui del Platano y tan, tan! Everyone is happy - well, except for Nepo, but he's never happy,so what would be the difference!

Anon 3:04:

Your comment had me laughing : ) I too hope, that at some point, Leo and Deigo have a relationship and you are right, Nepo will not be liking it, not one bit. He'll be pithed. I don't think the RPs will really bat an eye.

Principezuqui del platano! LOL
I'm sure Nepo will have plenty of objections to that.

I think MA and Frida would be understanding if Leo ever does have a relationship with Diego. But Ana Sofia? I don't think she will take it that well.

Did Leo mutter to Frida that he was going to the pharmacy for antidepressants?

yes, he said he was headed to the pharmacy to see if they could give him something for the 'depre'.

Good point about MA having proof that Alejo was drugging Mati. so that would invalidate the power of attorney, and besides they could give Mati some tests to determine if she can make decisions, even if she can't always remember stuff.
Also, about what MA would get in the end, since Alejo framed MA, this issue came up in 'Refugio' where the guy that went to jail for 20 yrs got half of what the other guy had ammassed in the company and the personal fortune, so maybe what Alejo has now would go to MA in the end, ALONG with control of the Editorial company.

Thanks Madelaine. This is very well done. Glad to have you back. Again I'm late, I just finished watcing this episode a few minutes ago.

I was annoyed with the way Tizoc was boasting to Frida. He as much as said that he is better off without her and by negotiating himself that he's saving that 10% to 20%. Although that guy seemed nice enough, I suspect this might come back to bite him. Poor Frida seemed crushed.

I enjoy watching Tomás and Vilma spar. Poor Lupe seems worn down. Good thing she has him on her side.

Carlos

I was annoyed at Tizoc, too. He wouldn't have even gotten that club gig at the naco theme place if not for Frida's connections and negotiation of the arrangements and fee, so I don't know why he acts like her cut was a waste of money.

Poor Tizoc. I very much doubt that his new manager will work for free.

What if he doesn't work at all? What if he's one of those "agents" who don't actually have any real industry contacts, but collect inflated fees from their clients supposedly to pay for production and distribution with the assurance that the client will keep all proceeds (of which there are none because the "agent" skips town as soon as he collects the fees).

Even if the agent is legit, has Tizoc actually done the negotiation yet? He may be in for a painful reality check.

Even if the agent is legit and fair, it's still hard to make money in the music business. Tizoc's acting like he's going to be rich (and he may be because it's a telenovela) but the reality for most bands is that they barely scrape by, what with all the expenses, unless they really hit it big. And there are a lot of fickle factors involved in whether you hit it big.

Don't give up your day job, Tizoc. Oh, wait, you don't have a day job; you just hang around showering and admiring your abs and snarking at the Ruizpalacios for not working enough.

Julia,

"Don't give up your day job, Tizoc. Oh, wait, you don't have a day job..."

Heh heh. I really like Tizoc, but he can be so immature and such a pain at times... grow up! Frida could also stand to grow up a bit as well. I sooo envy them both. They've lots of time to make mistakes. Oh to be that young again.

Carlos

No kidding. I think Tizoc is adorable most of the time. It's just those few other moments that make me want to send him to finishing school.

After Mister Chuy left the RP penthouse AS tells Frida to not let him near her again or let him speak to her. Looks like all that scolding did no good and AS still has not learned anything. She needs to become Gwendy's maid or something.

The second set pf papers that Alejo gave Lupita was a proposal where her family gets lots-o-stuff if she agrees to marry him. That is why she sent him packing, refused to continue reading those papers and left them on the table.

Don't know why the Lupita/Alejo story reminds me of Belle and Gaston of Beauty and the Beast.

I agree with the posters that mention that Emi might know where the documents are.

Madelaine, what did honorable and noble Thomas do to deserve even the idea of getting together with Mini? I would not pair her with a hyena!! :-)

I like that everyone now knows about the $1M USD. This will certainly add spice to the story. I am sure AS's head will go through the roof. She will be willing and anxious to throw everyone under the bus just to get her hands on this money.

I saw the episode with Alejo pitching Subway (I guess it worked since I am nibbling on an Oven Roasted Chicken sandwich right now). That was so unbelievable. Any one like Alejo would not even be caught dead in a fast food joint, much less extol the virtues of Subway's finest. On a related note Subway was certainly astute because with one show they promote their product in various countries. Not like some other product placements that are for products only available in Mexico.
