Que Pobres Tan Ricos #93: 5/15/14: There is Option A and Option B! There is no Option C!

Hola Amiguis! What a fast paced epi. I will give it my very best shot. If I missed something, as usual please let me know. Shall we begin?

In Emi's bedroom, Lupe spies the phone that Emi got from Ahole, she figures this out and confronts Emi about it. When did he get it precisely, Lupe wants to know? Emi finally tells her the truth about Ahole's visit to the school. Lupe is very upset that Emi has lied to her. Well, she made Emi lie by saying that MA was his primo, how about that lie? It's not the same thing, it's about an adult thing. He wants his phone back, Lupe won't give it to him and she tells him no. He thinks it is unfair. Off to school they go.

At their usual outdoor cafe, MA is taking a meeting with Tomas and Saul, those hard working lawyers. It seems they have divvied up the tasks to prove MA's innocence, but there is a jam in the greasy wheeled wheel, so to speak, because now Adolfo is dead. What to do, he was going to help MA out until that confrontation. Well, what about Bambi? True he hasn't squealed, but there is always a first time. MA is very vulernable right now, opines Saul. Saul thinks Ahole is gonna do some more evil. MA fesses up about that gun of Nepo's he had with him at the meet with Adolfo and it was at the crime scene last time he saw it!

Jon and Jen Gomez, come for a meet with Ahole. Melina ends up giving Jen her fruit cup, cause Jen was practically salivating over it. Well, they are allowed in Ahole's office and Vilma is with him. Meanwhile, Isela goes to Melina's desk and wants the chisme of who they are. Melina tells her they are cops. Ruh, Roh, Isela is in panick mode.

Jen and Jon are there because they discovered some calls made from a phone of Adolfo's, I think, to Vilma and Ahole. Must be some kind of mistake. They didn't talk to him. Jon tells them that Adolfo is dead. Ahole tells them to come by anytime they have questions. No problems! They go.

Meantime, Isela has hot footed it to Mini's office and tells her about the cops visiting Ahole. Isela is panicked that because Mini is married to Ahole still, they could be charged with being his accomplices for these crimes. Mini says if she has to go to the prison, she will kill herself. Isela is not amused.

Ahole is pithed at Vilma, cause he thought she had his back, she was supposed to make sure there was never a connection between Adolfo and him. Now Adolfo is dead, is there anything else that could pop up? She assures him she has been taking care of things, may Adolfo rest in peace and she'll be with Ahole till she dies, Ruh, Roh!

Lupe goes to the school and gives that teacher all kinds of hell for allowing Emi to spend time with Ahole without her consultation. Lupe was supposed to be informed! She is supposed to give her permission and why didn't that happen? Lupe is very pithed at this teacher who claims Ahole wanted to speak to his son. Lupe tells her that it was and is her obligation to call Lupe in the future. Ahole is not to see Emi without her being present, and she leaves before she really says something bad.

Lupe and Carm are in the Fonda kitchen and she tells Carm all about what transpired with that teacher, she gave her all kinds of hell, and she shows Carm the celly that Ahole gave Emi. Lupe calls Ahole from the celly, he thinks it is Emi and puts on his big show for him, but Lupe gives him an earful about having Emi lie to her. Ahole wants to meet her at a fancy restaurant for a proposal she'll have a hard time refusing, she isn't going to go out with him, but she'll meet him at his office.

At the Nopalera Market, Trofeo is worried about Nepo's gun, is MA taking care of it, guarding it? Of course he is! MA want to talk about the juice they will be selling, but Trofeo is fixated on the gun. MA keeps assuring him he's got it in a safe place, so Trofeo is going to sell some juice while MA squirms.

Ahole tells Vilma he is meeting with Lupe and he needs her help.

Islea and Mini are in the closet again, that would be Ahole's closet, where the proof is hidden in the safe. They open it and it's like the Sahara in there, no nothing, nada, it's bare. Mini is all kinds of upset, but Isela has a plan. She tells Mini, since she is now working at El Editorial, to put on the mini skirt and get Ahole back. It's the only way to get the proof she is looking for. Mini is only interested in getting MA back!

Ahole greets Lupe at his office and she lays into him about going to Emi's school without her knowledge and from now on, it has to be cleared with her. She must be present everytime he visits with Emi. He wants no problems with her. Ahole gave that celly to Emi, so he could have contact with him. Now Ahole says he has something serious to ask Lupe. She is the only woman for him, the mother of his son, he gets on bended knee and smiles his biggest smarmiest grin and asks Lupe to marry him! Lupe can't beleive it, no manches she says! He wants to be a family with her and Emi. He wants her to accept. Lupe tells him she'd rather die than marry him. Lupe also advises Ahole that Emi doesn't need a thing from him and gives him back that celly. She goes and Ahole is pithed.

Frida is at school, slanging her way with Tato, who says he wants to be her friend. Her former snooty girlfriends come and say they heard that Frida's family is ruined, no lana. Frida says something and goes off. Later, Tato catches up with her and gives her a ride to her old 'hood. She claims to be living with her uncle and auntie and no, he can't come inside. She waits for him to leave and hops a micro bus back to La Nopalera.

Lupe comes home and has a talk with Emi. She knows Ahole is Emi's Papa, but he is not allowed at Emi's school. Lupe tells Emi she knows that Ahole has a nice home and lots of lana, but those things are Ahole's. Lupe and Chuy work for everything they have. Emi tells Lupe that Ahole can help the familia out of the financial problem they are in. Chuy comes in and tells Emi no. The most important things in life, Chuy says, are not things, but hard work. Emi goes to his room and Chuy tells Lupe that what Emi is doing is natural and not to beat herself up about it. They must impress upon Emi that the most important things in life are not things, but love.

It's the continuing "etiquette classes" again, but Leo has been added to teach them English and AS is throwing around her Italian. The words are Hello, Thank You and Welcome. The Menchaca are terrible at it. Leo even threw in Guacamole. AS lets slip the servant deal she had planned for the Menchaca, ruh, roh!

Ahole is being his paranoid self, he is pithed things didn't work with Lupe and he's worried about Bambi. Vilma assures him things are being handled there and no worries.

Chuy calls AS on her BS let's say. AS says it was an idea. Tizoc and Perla are pithed and so is Lupe. No manches they all say. Lupe is tired of all of AS' abuses. Tizoc insults AS and Chuy tells him not to do that. AS gives the reasoning that the Menchaca would have benefitted from being in close proximatey to the hoi polloi (richy riches) they normally wouldn't see, plus the Count and Countess.

Meantime, Lupe calls MA and tells him what AS has done. He is on his way to handle her.

Ahole is still on is rant about Bambi and Adolfo and he has to ensure that MA is blamed for this crime and convicted. Vilma said something I didn't get about Adolfo here. Ahole shoo, shooes Vilma out of his office. Ahole takes out Nepo's gun, it's still in that handkerchief and swears MA's prints are all over it.

Lupe and Chuy have decided they can handle all of the things for the wedding, like the flowers, the food, the limosine etc. AS thinks she is getting this for free, but nopis nothing like that. The wedding is in a week, and Lupe informs both familias that MA is on his way over. Chuy is pithed cause he banned MA from the Fonda. Lupe says this is a bidnez deal. MA comes and Chuy allows him in.

Saul has come home and calls a lady for a date, too bad she is addicted to "The Walking Dead" and has never missed an episode. So she's not available. Saul thinks and then calls someone else. Guess who? That's right it is Guendy. He wants to know if they can spend some time together, she thinks he is joking, but he isn't. He is coming to La Nopalera.

A cloak and dagger figure walks to the crime scene and has gloves on. It's Ahole of course with Nepo's gun. He drops the gun in some boxes in that garage and goes off.

The negotations are ongoing between the Menchaca and the RPs for how much this will cost. I think Chuy suggested that AS could sell more of their things to Sharkey for payment. AS says they need all the help they can get and offers the Menchaca 13,500 pesos for the job. It's a fair price she says and besides it's for a High Society shin dig. Do they accept or not? They go to seperate rooms to discuss amongst themselves.

Don Chuy suggests 25,000 pesos to his familia. So the two families talk and Chuy says AS is always talking about leaving for Spain, are they in or not?

Avances:

The Cops find Nepo's gun.

Ahole and Mini have a show down, he hates her!

MA and Lupe go to visit Nepo, where MA tells Nepo he is "Angel RP" or does he? Tune in Este Viernes for more info.

Good Morning Y'all. I would have put up a brief synopsis of Wednesdays epi, but I am very thankful the commenters did that in the comments. Please enjoy the recap ; )

Marta:

Congrats on your new grandbaby, so very precious!

Madelaine, thanks for the wonderful recap this a.m. Loved your "High Society shindig" description of the wedding. Perfect!

Good:

Lupita dealing with Emiliano, the principal and Alejo. I especially liked her decision that Emiliano not be alone with Alejo unless a Menchaca is with him.
It is so good to see a smart competent protagonista.

Isela perking up at the detective's visit to Alejo and telling Minerva that something stinks and it is not the lotion that pig of a husband of hers uses.

MA trying to do whatever he could even talking about an increased presence of Trofeo in the new juice business just to get him off the topic of returning the gun.

The detectives handing the phone call logs to Vilma and Alejo implicating them in at least lying to the police and watching Vilma and Alejo scramble to come up with a new story about Adolfo who was now threatening them.

Alejo telling Vilma that MA was vile. Vilma muttering under her breath "Just as vile as you." Maybe Alejo should watch his back? Wouldn't that be a nice turn of events?

Don Chuy seeing a successful wedding leading to the Ruizpalacios leaving once and for all.

Not so good:

Adolfo planting the gun with MA's prints at the crime scene.

The police finding the gun.

Emiliano stuck on what money can buy. Sad to say but it will probably take him really getting hurt by Alejo
to get him back to how he used to be.

Jarifa

I got a kick out of the police's visit to Alejo at his office... first they say they know Adolfo had called Vilma, and A-hole does not waste a breath to point fingers at her, then Jennifer with a straight face said 'AND you...' and A-hole's face turned white as cotton...
I think A-hole is making many mistakes giving Vilma way too many clues that he would throw her under the bus faster than she could blink her eyes... and Vilma will return the 'evaporating half-life loyalty' in turn, especially when she realizes it was A-hole who killed Adolfo... i can't wait for Vilma's counter move on him. LOVED her mumbling 'just as vile as you' right back at ya.

Thanks for your recap Mads. I hope the Mechacas do not do the wedding but look forward to seeing how is blows up into the hot mess it could/should.

ITA w/Jarifa, it was so great seeing Lupita slam Alejo and thwart his marriage ploy. And I'm hoping Vilma's slip means she is slowing getting wise to him b/c as Marta noted he will throw her under the bus.

Jarifa:

Thanks as always for the added bits. I agree with you about Emi, he is stuck on "stuff" right now. I too think, once Ahole's true face is revealed to Emi, that Emi will finally see what his Papa is really like. He has just seen the
"good side" of Ahole. Thanks for the vile thingy too. I think Vilma is getting a clue. I loved that line I missed about the lotion pig thingy, too funny. Thank you!

Marta:

It's funny that Vilma hasn't been able to see Ahole for who he truly is until now. She could throw him under the bus! She was the one that moved the money around and hid things. If he got rid of Vilma, he'd be up the creek. He hasn't got a clue how smart she really is. I think Julie was right. Vilma will end up driving that bus and putting Ahole under it!

Karen:

I too am very happy that Lupe went off on Ahole and that teacher. I too loved Lupe's reaction to Ahole's proposal. He really thought he had her. He is one dim schmuck. She isn't the impressionable young girl she was when she worked for him. He doesn't get that.

He is one dim schmuck.
absolutely!
he knows Adolfo has bullets in him from two different guns... so how will he justify that? i wonder what happened to the original bullet that left him ... eh... crippled. would that bullet have ended up with the police? That bullet came from teh same gun that the first bullet to Adolfo came from... hmmm... i wonder if they gave it to Vilma... interesting possibilities there.

Thanks, Mads! As usual, I haven't seen this episode yet. It sounds like a lot happened. Thanks for keeping me up to date!

Thank you, Madelaine!

I'm glad Lupita reamed out that teacher. She could have put Emiliano and the other kids in real serious danger. It would be nice if she realized she would be lucky not to lose her job and learned something from it, but she still seemed to think Lupita was overreacting.

If the Menchacas do agree to cater the wedding, they should demand payment upfront. I wonder how the vote would go. Helping out people who have been so horrible...but on the other hand that could get rid of them faster. I wonder how Tizoc will vote. He is not a fan of the family living there, but I don't think he wants Frida to move away, either!

A high society wedding for one thousand dollars? Was that supposed to include the food and flowers and table rental, or is that the payment to the Menchacas for supplying the labor? Either way, it isn't nearly enough.

It was funny when Agente Jen took over Melina's mango and then in Ahole's office he was being all smarmily courteous and asked them, "Can I get you anything? Water? Coffee? Chili piquín?"

Loved the English lesson. That was funny. Especially when the Menchacas were so terrible at it and Leo said "Oh my god" and AS dutifully translated "Dios mio". I was surpised they wouldn't know those very basic words, though. Even most people here who don't know Spanish at all know at least that much in Spanish, and there's a lot of English used in media and signage and such that are seen in Mexico.

I also thought it was funny (in a wanting to smack the snobs upside the head kind of way) how AS and Leo were getting all over their cases for using slang, and Leo was doing this using tons of slang (and his usual bit of pretending he can't remember how to say something in Spanish). But fresa is acceptable, whereas naco is not! He's hardly one to talk about speaking a language properly.

Mads, thanks for this recap, and thanks for posting the discussion header for Wednesday's episode and everyone who contributed to that.

I haven't seen this one yet, but I am definitely looking forward to it. Especially Ahole going through with the proposal to Lupita even though she clearly hates him more with each passing day.

I'm glad Lupe gave it to the teacher and/or principal for letting Ahole come around without telling her! Does Lupita know yet exactly how long Ahole's been snooping around?

So now Vilma's calling Ahole Vile? How odd. She was all devoted to him again within hours of Adolfo's death, or that's sure how it looked! What changed her mind last night? It's not the first time he's been vile to her!

And how long do fingerprints last on an item that's been handled several times with a handkerchief? I would think the hanky would have smeared the prints. Smeared them at least enough to cast doubt as to their relevance.

Aw, Tato's back? I was hoping we were finished with that jerk.

Where does AS think she's going to get 13,500 or 25,000 or any number of pesos to pay the Menchacas for the wedding job, not to mention the 300,000 she "borrowed"? Oh right, she thinks the Count (Count Chocula? Count von Count?) will just fork it over at her request. She needs some lessons in cash management and finance.

Regarding the little clips we see just before they go to commercial, I don't know if it's been shown more than once, but in one of them Carmelita is wearing a beach-coverup that looks like the body of a swimsuit model in a bikini. :-)

Jarifa: "It is so good to see a smart competent protagonista." YES! YES! YES!!!

Count von Count? Count Chocula? Either of those is perfect! Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!! *thunder*

I like the new bumper clips with the whole gang on vacation. I wonder if that is something that will really happen, or is just random stuff for intros/outros.

Also a huge fan of the smart protagonista!

"Count Chocula? Count von Count?" was very funny, Julie.

I am so hoping that they are headed on a vacation to the beach somewhere for another break from La Nopalera. Maybe Nepo would stay home this time.

Jarifa

Do we know where Trofeo got the gun? It's making him awfully nervous.

If only MA and Vilma had both thought to remove all ammunition etc. from those guns before letting Ahole have any access to them.

Julie,
I too noticed...
in one of them Carmelita is wearing a beach-coverup that looks like the body of a swimsuit model in a bikini. :-)

that was too funny!
also in those clips of the vacations, one shows Lupe and MA kissing, but in others MA has a very 'guilty' facial expression whereas it seems Lupe wants to give support but he wants to put distance, as if wanting to protect her by leaving her... sigh.

I think the only way Ana Sofia is going to become related to royalty is to hook up with Count von Count.

I don't know who will end up more in the dog's house of their social circles, if AS and Leo or Mr Sterling... but the AS/Leo version should be fun to watch, even though like some have pointed, Leo has always been influenced by his mom... it is so sad to watch as she prefers DaVinci to Leo and says so right on Leo's face ...

Hey Mads! Thanks for this recap and for putting up the discussion page for the previous episode.

ITA with everyone on Lupe's talk with the principal, and with Emi. Lupe called her out for letting Alejo's pesos earn him access to Emi.

My nephew adored his dad when he was younger. He only saw him on vacations and his dad always pulled out all the stops. Of course my sister knew he was pretty unreliable, and not great at day to day parenting (just not very interested in it), which is why they weren't together anymore. When my nephew hit middle school age he decided he wanted to go live with his dad, not because of anything my sister did/didn't do, but because he was a boy, at an age when he really craved male authority, and he had his dad up on a pedestal. The problem was that we lived in CA and his dad lived in NYC. My sister decided to pick up her whole life and move to NYC so that my nephew could be close to his dad. My nephew quickly learned what a rotten dad his father is, and began to appreciate my sister more. Emi will learn soon enough that Alejo is no prize father.

Marta- Love the avatar of your daughter, post labor!, and grandsons. Adorable!

I can just imagine AS with The Count.

They can count their money very slowly so it'll last longer:
"One! One peso! Bwahahaha!"
"TWO! TWO pesos! Ahahahaha!!!"

I'm sure the current Mrs. Count would object, though.

And AS might be too racist to hook up with a Muppet, even if he does sound European.

I don't think AS would ever count pesos. She would insist on counting dollars or euros. Her attempts to distance herself from all things Mexican are an essential part of her bourgeois arriviste tackiness.

Oh! I just remembered that Vilma taught me a new word last night!

Casquivana: a shallow woman who is indiscriminate about her partners etc. aka bimbo. May also connote a bit of gold-digging.

Vilma used it to describe Minerva.

I love new words! I'll listen out for that one. Thanks, Julia!

Loved the English class with Leo. Leo's face as the Menchacas repeated the words was too funny! There is definitely a double standard as he adds 'uki' to almost every word but he doesn't like their "chido" and "chale" (which was very funny too)

Also Leo had a very thoughtful look and then somewhat of a pained face during the lessons. I wonder if it was because of how awful students the Menchacas are, because of the wedding or maybe he was thinking of Diego Armando...hmmm

Madelaine, thanks for your excellent recap.
I'm worried that Emiliano is going to run away before he learns that there's no place like home.

If the Menchacas agree to assist with the wedding (if such wedding actually happens), the wealthy guests may end up enjoying the homemade hospitality.

Our pregnant policewoman needs to get together with Esme (LQLVMR) to compare notes.

So Saul decided to break down and call Guendy! He may end up with more action than he can handle. Or will Nepo intervene on behalf of the Nopalera?

Marta, thanks for the sweet photo of mama and babies!

Sorry, the first line was a remnant from another post.

First, Madelaine, thank you for the quick, complete, and very entertaining recap! I thought that, since my Spanish was getting so much better, I didn't HAVE to have the recap every time, but not having one yesterday made me realize how much I look forward to it. So, a big THANK YOU to all you hard-working recap writers.
I also love learning new words, and this novela, along with all the recappers and commentators, is great for that.
I still think that Guendy is destined to be with Nepo - IF he shapes up quite a bit! Although Guendy might be good for Saul, I still can visualize him helping and having a future with Vilma - at least I hope so for Vilma's sake.
