Que Pobres Tan Ricos #98: 5/22/14: Hasta Nunca Porca Miseria!

Hola Amiguis! What an episode this evening! We start with an earworm. This one is dedicated to Leo from Diego. Let's hope Leo gets the message: Take A Chance On Me

We begin with MA and Lupe in the afterglow of their time together and Mini has continued to call. Lupe insists that MA call Mini back to find out what the heck she wants, it could be important. So MA answers the phone. Mini has called MA to let him know that Ahole suspects MA is in Mexico and to be careful, cause Ahole is dangerous, Mini just called to warn him. Mini hears a noise and suspects MA is not alone, so she asks him. He tells Mini his private life is private and click, hangs up! Mini is beyond pithed that MA is with that woman. Throughout the next five minutes or so, MA asks Lupe if she is jealous of Mini, she denies, he asks and he ends up hitting her with a pillow as she does him. MA assures Lupe he is only talking to Mini to help him prove his innocence and nothing else. He'll be with Lupe foreva and eva. Do you see the little mini piecart that is hanging about? They sure don't.

Diego Armando, bless his heart, has come to have a bit of a chat with Leo. Leo informs Diego that there will not be anymore art classes cause he is getting married. Diego pays Leo anyway. Leo thanks him and Diego is about to go, when he turns around and asks Leo not to get married.

AS, Don Chuy, Tizoc and Carmelita are in the kitchen and they are going to the La Nopalera market, all but Carmelita that is. She will be tending to the Fonda. Carmelita warns AS about wearing those Jimmy Choos or Manolo Baliks to the market. AS pooh, poohs her and makes an unkind remark about Carmelita's flats. AS feels she's been insulted by Carmelita and demands respect from her. Before Carmelita can give her the proper beatdown, the guys escort AS to the market.

Diego and Leo continue their little convo, about why Leo shouldn't get married. I will give you the short version. Diego tells Leo he likes him, really likes him. Leo is so freaked out he has to go into the RP Penthouse and speak to Diego from the window, kind of like Romeo and Juliet. Well, Diego finally tells Leo he is gay, and Leo is having a hot flash of some sort, tells Diego, Bye, Bye, Bye, like N'Sync and Diego goes. Leo picks up the phone and calls someone.

MA and Lupe have made it back to La Nopalera, he besos her, te amos her as she does him, and she is trying to make him leave the truck. Wouldn't do to be seen together, there would be gossip! The scandal! He goes, with more kisses.

Now at the market, Don Chuy and Tizoc are getting the fresh produce for the wedding, while AS is tottering in her Jimmy Choos and having a heck of a time, not toppling over, from the porca miseria these shoes are giving her! The men carry the crates of produce and they have to rest cause AS can walk no further. So Don Chuy talks to her about this market. He loves it, the sights, the smells, best market in Mexico. He advises her to have a pancita (bread?) and she snivels her nose. She is at the pork stand and discovers she is leaning towards the head of a pig, gives out a shriek, leans on Don Chuy and off they go.

Poor Diego is on the street now, kicking himself for telling Leo how he felt about him, when he kicks a can right at Trofeo. Trofeo can see that Diego is troubled and asks if he can help him in anyway. Nopis and Diego goes off on his own.

Guendy is at her salon, tending to her clients when Leo shows up. Guendy thinks that Leo is there to get a wedding "luke", like maybe a Shrek, but he's not interested in her services. He asks if she knows how to cut the "Brad Pitt" or does she know the Beiber cut, oh she knows the Beib. Anyhoo, Leo says not to insult her but he is really there to see Mike, and please don't tell anyone he was there. Guendy zips her lip and Leo goes upstairs.

Carmelita and Lupe are in the Fonda kitchen when Ahole calls. He tells Lupe he is missing his son, yeah right, and wants to see him. He says he knows she is busy at the moment but he wants some time with Emi. Lupe tells him next afternoon, I think. Carmelita says she has Lupe's back.

Leo has gone to MA for advice. He is very confused and doesn't know what to do. Leo tells MA he is very nervous and MA tells him that is to be expected, grooms or brides for that matter are nervous. Only Leo knows how he feels about Maca, MA tells him. Leo admits that he doesn't love Maca. MA tells Leo he didn't feel for Mini what he feels for Lupe. He loves Lupe and MA advises him you either are in love or not in love, cut and dried. MA also tells Leo that love knows no bounds, or social class. Leo says he gets that and he is glad that MA is his bro. MA hugs and kisses Leo as Leo cries on is shoulder.

Don Chuy and Tizoc, loaded down with those crates of produce, come back to the Fonda kitchen. They crack jokes about AS and the pork stand. AS comes in and can barely shuffle her feet. As the rest of them try not to laugh in AS' face, she asks about the uniforms that the Menchaca will be wearing to serve at the wedding. Lupe assures her they have them. As AS leaves, the Menchanca and Carmelita bust a gut laughing.

Frida is sitting in class when Tato comes. She tells Tato about Leo getting married and Tato wants to come with her. She tells him no. Isn't she going to Spain to live with Leo, and he notices her rough hands. She doesn't answer him and goes.

MA also advises Leo to think really hard before getting married. Leo insists this marriage to Maca is a salvation for the family, they need the money. MA tells Leo not to marry for the money. MA is going to the reception and not to the wedding. Leo says he is getting married, he was just confused there for a bit, and MA tells him to do what is in his heart. Leo insists it is best that he marry Maca.

Frida is washing clothes and talking to Tizoc about the wedding music. He keeps trying to kiss Frida, who is trying to avoid him. She tells him about the move to Spain, after Leo gets married. Tizoc isn't happy to hear this, it's so far away. Frida reminds him there were never any promises between them.

Mati, AS, and Leo are looking at his wedding suit. Mati still can't beleive he is marrying a girl. Mati says he will be married for life. AS thinks this is the last night they will be spending at the Fonda. They also get the invitations finally, and they are huge, but something seems to be wrong with the coats of arms on the top of the invitation. Leo is glad they will be leaving Mexico.

Isela and Mini are at the Cloob, when they run into Chavela and the rest of AS' friends. Chavela is talking about the wedding and how the creme de la creme (the rich and entitled=the cream of the crop) are the only ones being invited, which leaves Mini and Isela out. Isela cracks up when she finds out that Leo is marrying a girl. Oh and Ana Chofi's (AS') friends remark there are rumors out there that MA is running from the law and about wedding pictures being taken of the celebrities.

It's the next day, and AS gets up and packs as does Leo and Frida. AS looks around the RP Penthouse and claims she will not be missing it. Hasta nunca to the porca miseria she says! They leave, but Leo has to run back to get the bags, no one helps him carry them.

Andiamo (let's get cracking, hurry up) says AS as she is going down the stairs, she is rushing Frida and Leo. AS and Leo stop to taste the food that Carmelita and Lupe are making for the wedding, too much chili, Leo is aghast at how spicy the food is. Carm and Lupe just smirk. AS is worried about where Sharkey is (Don Solomon) and the car. Leo says no news is good news. AS bids the Menchaca Adios and she'll see them at the wedding manana.

At the Popular Cafe, MA is meeting with his two lawyers and I'm sorry, I was laughing so hard I didn't get much of what was said. All I noticed were Tomas and MA trying to figure out this new "luke" of Saul's. It had something to do with El Bambi and not trying to approach him because of Adolfo's murder.

Now for a break to the police station. Forensics have gotten what they needed off that gun at the crime scene and it has MA's prints on it. Jen is estatic and wants to find MA. They can now charge MA with evading the law, fraud, money laundering and murder! Trouble with this is, Jen goes into labor. Jon tells her MA can wait as does their boss and as she protests about MA, Jon takes her to the hospital.

Perla comes in with Emi and the deal is he is visiting with his Daddy that afternoon, as Perla smirks and Lupe scowls.

Saul and MA are outside the Popular Cafe as MA tells Saul, he won't be going to the wedding, just the reception to meet the Counts. Guendy saunters by and flirts with Saul, who is mighty happy to see her.

Tizoc and the band are downstairs when Frida whistles at Tizoc, who pays her no never mind. She is trying to flirt with him, but he isn't having it. He reminds her this will be a working wedding and there were no promises between them, he won't miss her when she goes to Spain, and he'll see her at the wedding. Oh snap!

Oh, my these Counts like to partay. The Count and Countess of Nothing, hang out the roof of the Hummmmmmer. They are drinking champagne and not liking it cause it is cheap. Maca tells them to quit the drinking, doesn't want them drunk when they meet the RPs. She also reminds them, that if Leo doesn't go through with this wedding, they are getting paid nada!

Sharkey is loading the bags into the SUV at the Fonda. Mati is worried they are leaving her behind, but Don Chuy assures her he will be taking her to the wedding, manana.

As AS is about to get into the SUV she says goodbye to the porca miseria she is leaving behind, or is she?

AVANCES:

Leo is conflicted.

The Counts see the Hacienda and think they are in the money!

Ahole gives Emi something.

Here ya go Y'all. Please enjoy the recap and please add/correct what I left out ; )

Thank you, Madelaine. Pancita (also known as menudo in Mexico, and in other Latin countries as mondongo and a few other names) is tripe soup.

Love your comment about the mini piecart. I cringe just thinking about how messy things will get soon enough.

I am so bummed I missed DA confessing his love!

What Leo said to Güendy was that he would never trust her with his hair, as he used to have the same stylist as Brad Pitt, and of course she doesn't know who that is he says, so he mentions Beiber.

I loved the MA and Leo convo. It was very sweet! We got to see Leo show real emotion again!

I also liked Tizoc giving Frida the cold shoulder. She wants to have her cake and eat it, too! It's good for her to taste his indifference for a change.

AS is going to suffer the biggest humiliation of her life, I suspect, and in front of the chismosas from the club!

Aw, I missed Saul and Güendy seeing each other again!

Thank you for the recap Madeline!

Ana Sofía believes she is close to getting what she wants. I almost felt sorry for her at this point. But I bet she'd get along great with the fake Counts if they start partying together.

Poor Diego Armando.

Thank you for the translation anon. Pancita is known as mondongo in Veracruz, where I'm from. It's one of those cases when something is called different in the same country depending on the state. Novelas help with those.

Great recap, Madelaine!! loved the Abba song clip. i remember i had some of their single on small LP at high school. (yes i am that old)
LOVED LOVED MA being so understanding and honest in his talk to Leo, when he said love knows no bounds, or social class, he also said 'or gender'. That is where Leo figured out MA knew where this concern was going and that is when Leo got upset and MA embraced him when Leo wanted to leave fast.

The 'coat of arms' on the invitation was upside down. Usually the spanish family coats of arms have the ribbon on the bottom, this one had the yellow ribbon on the top... (what tacky wedding invitations! HUUUUGE!!!)
speaking of tacky, the 'condes' said that about the limo, besides saying the champagne was cheap... for a moment they wondered if the RP family is so thrifty with everything... little do they know.

when the ladies at the club were talking about the wedding pictures, Chabela started saying they were going to have all these celebrities/royalty at her hacienda so she would ensure she had pictures taken with them. Then Isela not only invited herself and Mini to the wedding but went on with that line saying she and Mini would also bring their cameras to do the same. Then Geno says that that is so old style and cheesy to take pictures with royalty and celebrities so Isela backpedaled and said she thougth it over and agreed with Geno... LOL!!

Jen's water broke. that is why suddenly they were in a rush to get to the hospital... it should not be that much of a run run situation. usually doctors say baby should be out within 24 horus (NOT 24 minutes!) after the water breaks...

Madelaine, what a wonderful title for such a wonderful recap! Your ear worm was perfect. Also I liked the "oh, snap" to Tizoc's reaction to Frida and the "Count and Countess of Nothing".

My faves:

MA doing his little "you're jealous" song and dance act in bed.

AS telling Carmelita she was "practically born in heels" and then watching her limp her way through the market and home. I wonder if she enjoyed the pancita after being spooked seeing the pig's head looking at her. Too funny.

Leo reacting to Diego saying that he liked him a lot by saying he(Leo) wasn't gay. Diego responding that he didn't believe him: he(Leo) was gay, and he(Leo) liked him.

Leo going to MA for advice. It was great to see the brothers act like brothers for once. I felt bad for Leo as he was crying at the end.

AS putting a false label in Leo's wedding suit so nobody could tell it was made in La Nopalera.

The invitation arriving with the crest of Maca's family being printed upside dow. Leo seeing that as a bad sign.

Don Chuy reacting to the joy of everyone that the Ruizpalacios were finally gone by reminding Lupe that that did not apply to her as long as she was going out with MA. "El que quiere perro pues se aguanta las pulgas". (He who wants a dog has to put up with the fleas.)

The drunken "counts" with Maca on their way!

Jarifa

I was pleasantly surprised that Diego finally had the courage to tell Leo how he feels. That scene was so sweet with Diego talking about two people having feelings for each other and Leo comparing it to Romeo and Juliet. Then Diego said this story is more like 2 Romeos, Leo doesn’t get it or pretends not to get it and asks what that has to do with his wedding. Poor Diego had to spell everything out for him. He was so cute when he finally told Leo that he likes him. Then Leo writing on the window that he is not gay but wishing Diego well because he is a good person and deserves to find someone who makes him happy. Then the BYE BYE BYE from Leo was very funny.

Tomas and MA cracked me up as they were trying to figure out what was up with Saul's hair. Saul look so embarrassed he didn't know where to hide his head! LOL.

Thanks so much Mads!

Wow! I can't believe DA finally told Leo how he feels. So brave of him. I can't wait to watch my recording.

Hopefully Jon and Jen having their baby will delay them going after MA for a few days.

Good Morning Y'all and thanks so very much for all your kind words.

Anon 2:33

Thanks so much for the meaning of pancita. I really thought it was a pork sandwich ; )

Anon 2:45:

I too think it will be getting messy soon. Thanks for the hair dresser too. I couldn't figure out if Leo wanted a certain cut or what. Agree with you about Frida too. I had such hope for her! Maybe she will come to her senses.

Jarocha:

I am so happy you are here! I don't quite feel sorry for Ana Chofi yet. She needs more of a comeuppance and then I probably will feel sorry for her, just a tad ; ) It's the same here in the States with certain dishes being called by different names.

Marta:

Thanks for the clarifications. It will be a hoot with this wedding. And Mini and Isela are going? Oh, noes. I can just see Mini trying to chase MA all over that reception if she sees him. I know about the water right? That was too funny, but first time Dads always think when the water breaks its time to go. Little do they know : )

Jarifa:

Thanks so much for that phrase. I am writing it down. I think it's a hoot. I too liked MA and Leo acting like brothers for a change and Leo's tears at the end. I was laughing so hard at those drunken "counts" too. They will be a hoot.

Anon 9:52:

Thanks so much about the Romeo and Juliet part of the convo. Now it makes more sense to me, but I had to laugh when Leo went into the RP Penthouse and stood at the window, kind of like Juliet. I too was surprised that Diego told Leo how he felt too. It must have been cause he knows that Leo is marrying like real soon. I just hope Leo remembers what Diego told him and the advice he got from MA.

Anon 9:58:

That's exactly why I was cracking up during that whole convo. The way that Tomas and MA were staring at Saul's hair, he did look like he wanted to hide his head. He should have worn a hat, it would have covered the worst of it ; )

Vivi:

I am so with you about Jon and Jen. I too hope it puts a long delay in them finding MA. I can't wait for this wedding. It is going to be a hoot and a half.

The forensics can't be done yet. Ahole shot Adolfo with his own gun too and they are going to figure out there are two sets of bullets, not from the same gun, at some point. I can't wait until Jen and Jon find that out.

Hey Mads. Thanks for your great recap. And the comment MA made to Lupe did make me think of the separation anvil.

Glad Jennifer's water broke but I hope that doesn't mean MA will be in prison. If he goes, I wonder if he'll run into Bambi?

Karen:

As soon as MA told Lupe about being with Lupe foreva and eva, I saw that mini pie cart start moving toward them. It's TN law it seems, that the galan can't just say that, as we are nowhere near the ending yet : ) Oh, running into Bambi in the jail, now that will be good. They can compare notes about Ahole that's for sure. If I were Ahole I'd be shivering in my shoes over Bambi.

Thanks, Mads! I love today's earworm.

What a fun episode. So much Leo! If he were campaigning for any awards he could use this episodio to showcase his talent.

I'm impressed that Diego was brave enough to be so straightforward, so to speak. Really cracked up at Leo swearing on Madonna, Ricky Martin, and Lady Gaga that he isn't gay, and then "as N'Sync said, bye bye bye". Liked the convo with MA, too.

Jen will probably only be down for a day or two to have the baby, then she'll be right back on the trail like a bloodhound. I don't think MA is safe for long.

Although, thinking about it, going to jail might actually help MA. Normally one wants to avoid being arrested and going to jail like the plague, especially in a place like Mexico where once you're charged, you're considered guilty unless you can prove innocence. But in MA's case, if he isn't on the lam, his lawyers won't have to pretend they don't know anything about him, which may free them to subpeona files and whatnot instead of trying to skulk around finding things, plus, if he goes to the same place as Bambi, he may be able to get information from Bambi. He certainly hasn't made much progress on his defense so far.

And I don't think being in prison will even be that rough for him, if he goes where Bambi is and everyone knows he and Bambi are buds. Bambi has a better life and more power from inside jail than most people have outside it!

Julia:

I agree with what you said about MA being in jail. I never thought of it that way. I think Saul did try to get some records out of Ahole in the beginning but he gave him stuff that didn't have anything in it. Thanks too for the Lady Gaga and the Ricky Martin. I am still laughing : )

Actually MA does NOT plan to go to the wedding OR the reception. What he said yesterday is that he was planning to go to a gathering between the families that is supposed to happen BEFORE the wedding, only the families getting to know each other... sort of what in a lot of places you call the 'rehearsal dinner' except not sure if it is a dinner or a gathering of more than just toasting to the new couple... very intimate/small... he was calling it a 'recepcion' but he did not mean it was the reception AFTER the wedding, just a family meet and greet BEFORE it.

Thanks for this nifty recap Madelaine. I've been negligent with submitting comments on this sweet TN... mainly because I usually end up watching the episode late in the day after it airs. I do, however, keep up with all the recaps and comments... eventually.

Nevertheless, I gt such pleasure watching this. Last night I so enjoyed that visit to the market. I'm like don Chuy, the sights and aromas of such a market are so intoxicating. What a treat for the eyes that was and I could clearly imagine the wonderful smells.

I can't believe that Diego blurted it out... just like that. What a cute poignant scene that was. My heart goes out to the both.

Since I recently retired from the active practice of medicine and since it's been years since I delivered my last baby, I'll limit my comments on the matter of water breaking... however, in my experience, the amniotic sac can rupture at any point before or during labor. I would estimate that in about 1/4 of the births I attended, I artificially ruptured the membranes shortly prior to delivery, often in the delivery room.

One thing I noticed in Nepo's apartment was a small horse sculpture on the coffee table. The horse is saddled... with the saddle on backward. For the life of me, I can't figure out why or if there may be some significance that I'm missing.

Marta, belated congratulations on you new grandchild... I love that photo.

Carlos

Regarding the art in Nepo's house...I hadn't noticed the horse with the backward saddle; I'll have to look for that. I did notice, in addition to all the large pictures of himself, he has somewhat of a large cat theme going on. The other day when Nepo was shoving Guendy out the door and being ridiculous as usual, I noticed a leopard or something on the floor near the door that was positioned such that it kind of looked like it was banging its head on the wall over Nepo's pigheaded ridiculousness.

I wonder if Frida is trying to force some distance with Tizoc because she thinks she is leaving and doesn't want to get too attached, or if she really just isn't all that into him. She has been disappointing me lately. I know she's never been as in love with Tizoc as he is with her, but I wish she wouldn't take him so much for granted. I'm glad he gave her a little taste of her own medicine, but I don't think he will hold out for long. What will happen when she doesn't get whisked away to the high life in Spain after all?

I can't believe Frida would want to go to Spain with them. I assumed she'd want to stick with MA. And nobody ever mentions what's going to happen with Mati, do they?

Marta:

Thanks about the reception part, cause I was wondering how he was going to go to the reception, which will have all those people he knew milling around, not like at the wedding where he could hide in plain sight so to speak. That makes more sense with him meeting the soon to be in-laws in a more intimate setting.

Carlos:

It is so good to see you back here. This is such a lovely, light TN. Thanks about the labor too. I knew a woman that from the time her water broke till she delivered was four hours and it was her first baby! She was in great shape though. I'm glad you brought up the saddle, cause I have been wondering about that too.

Julia:

Yeah, I have been disappointed with Frida too, and I too wonder what she'll do when she finds out they won't be going to Spain. I think she'll be kicking herself.

Ann C:

Good point about Mati. MA would take care of her though, cause he isn't leaving Mexico. I too thought that Frida would stay with MA. She doesn't get along real well with AS and Leo. Oh, and the Menchaca don't mind Frida, except for Tizoc now and maybe sometimes Perla, they seem to like Frida and they love Mati. She is the great grandma of Emi too.

Most of the RP family doesn't seem that great at long-term thinking. They're in the mindset of only looking as far as the wedding, and then MAGIC! EVERYTHING BETTER! without really considering anything beyond that, like for example how torched a real rich countess might be upon finding out they intend to sponge off her. Or Frida, willing to enjoy a few rolls in the hay with Tizoc, without considering how he might feel about her lack of commitment to any sort of future with him. Leo is just now starting to think longer term. Mati really freaked him out when she wished him and Maca a happy marriage for their entire long lives.

MA is willing to take care of Mati, but it will be hard for him to do that if he's in jail. Good thing the Menchacas love her. I think Frida should stay there, too, except I think she does feel like she is imposing on them and she is uncomfortable about it. Tizoc loves having her there, in spite of his claims of disliking her at any given moment, but Perla HATES Frida and goes out of her way to make her feel unwelcome.

Despite Leo’s denial, he must have some feelings towards Diego Armando even if he is not sure of what they are yet. It’s the only way to explain that he has always been so nice to Diego as compared to how snobbish he has been to everyone else in La Nopalera.

He definitely likes Diego. It was funny when Diego showed up and said don't worry, no one saw that he is here, and Leo started on his usual "well good thing; you wouldn't want anyone to see you in those tacky rags" or whatever and then couldn't keep it up and told Diego he looked fine. And then he nearly went through the roof when Frida said, "hey, Diego was here; did you see him?" Good thing Leo was headed for the (probably cold) shower.

I think Frida is completely in love with Tizoc, but she still thinks she's too good for him though she'd never say it as such. This is her character arc, she's basically the stereotypical rich kid who is all fight the power, disgusted by wealth, but it's because they have it and can afford to have such an idealistic view and feel like she's above other rich people. Yet when the situation becomes real you can no longer idealize poverty and see it as ennobling, but as a real thing that affects you. And so now she clings to believing this is temporary, and sure, they're good people, but she's not one of them. She's above it.
Mati told her the moment would come when she would know if what she feels is love and that's what the novela is building up to, the moment when she finally works past her sense of superiority and can accept that she'd rather have Tizoc than all her fake friends.

Great point about the RPs not thinking long term. I never understood how they think their lives will change again as soon as Leo and Maca say I do.

cold shower for sure! LOL

interesting how Frida told him that Diego was there. I though she sensed that something was going on between them.

Thanks for the thorough recap, Madelaine. This episode was fully loaded with meaningful action.

MA always makes me smile when he teases Lupita about being jealous.

AS going to the market was a classic comedy scene. Struggling in her heels and her ambush by the pig's head were only a few highlights.

Leo really brought his acting ability to his scenes. Diego, too, was excellent. He gathered his courage and delivered the message. Leo was both hilarious and touching in his response, including swearing on the celebrities. ("Not your madonna!")

By the time MA was finished with Leo's counseling session and Leo was crying on his shoulder, I had some strange water leaking from my eyes as well. A rare opportunity for Leo to be authentic.

MA, Tomas, and Saul were all "what the ??!? is wrong with Saul's hair" and Saul trying to play it off as if part of his hair isn't flaming orange!

Maca seemed very upset with her Count and Countess of Nothing. Gleeful anticipation for the wedding festivities!

Anon 1:43:

I agree with you about Frida. I really thought she would be nicer to Tizoc after what happened to her with the mean girlz the other day. Whenever she is in trouble Tizoc always has her back, and her snooty friends not so much. I wish she'd think about that for a second.

La Paloma:

Strange water leaking from your eyes, guffaw! Are you a "Seinfeld" fan by any chance? I will never forget that scene he did with strange water leaking from his eyes.

That was an interesting reaction from Saul when he saw Guendy again! MA was rather surprised by it. Maybe he can get her to fix his hair.

The hairstyles Guendy was offering Leo for his wedding were hilarious. A Shrek-green dye? I can't remember what else she said. I'm not sure anyone should want to claim any connection to Justin Bieber, even if it is just a hairstylist. But the RPs have been in La Nopalera for months now, and Leo hasn't been able to take any haircut trips to NY. Did he get a cut during the Tres Estaciones hotel spree that he is still making last?

I think that Frida should start working in Guendy's salon. Her hair always looks perfect, and she is probably going to need to earn some money.

Thanks, Mads!! Wow, lots of AS (and to some extent, Frida) counting their chickens before they're hatched.

Indeed, Frida really has been rather obnoxious and phony lately. We can probably trace that back to the moment she resumed her classes at the prepa. Same environment, same phony friends, it's no surprise her old phony attitude is coming back too. It was much easier for her to be a nice person when she was surrounded by nice people and far away from her old life!

Other thoughts:

- The Diego/Leo talk, and later the Leo/MA talk, were two of the very best conversations I've ever seen in TNs. Very poignant talks and very nuanced performances from the actors.

- I can't help but feel that AS and Carmelita are going to have to have a spectacular showdown before the end of this TN, after which they will make up and become best friends forever.

- Someone asked last week if anyone else thinks that Chabelita sounds like a goat bleating. I DO I DO!

- I wonder if Perla is taking Emi to Ahole's as an excuse to ask Ahole for another chance to be a model. Let's hope those diet pills don't give her a seizure while Emi is in her care.

Thanks Madelaine, I'm in the same position as Carlos, I rarely can comment here and if I can, it's usually later in the day but I always appreciate all the recappers and I try to read them all.

I loved the scene with Diego and Leo too. I was so funny that Leo needed to put up a physical barrier between them when they talked. Diego definitely wouldn't take Leo's denial that he was gay. Yes you are, I am too, and we both feel something for each other. But I feel Leo's dilemma too. He knows his mother is counting on him to get them out of the porca miseria that she complains about daily.
As far as Frida is concerned, I think that she is conflicted, who wouldn't want to live in luxury versus poverty? Tato seems to be becoming more aware of Frida's economic status. My guess of the future is that Tato will decide he loves her and will accept her anyway, and Frida will realize that even with the option of being with Tato and having money, she will opt for Tizoc.

As far as the RPs thinking that once Leo gets married, that everything will be better, I think that they just think that they will return to their old life, the one they were very happy living in before they lost it all.

I was wondering where Leo cuts his hair after he told Gwendy that he only goes to the finest stylists in New York, he has been in Mexico for months now, so he must have found an Option B.

I think Isela sounds like a bleating goat, crossed with a braying donkey.

I think Tato and Tizoc should have a dance-off for Frida's affections. We know who would win that one :).

It's funny that this silly comedy has the most sensitive and nuanced gay characters plotline I have ever seen in a telenovela.

There have been a few decent portrayals of gay relationships, though this might be the best at making you root for the couple. I often wonder if there will ever be a novela that allows a gay kiss. It bugs me seeing gay romances where the most we get is a chaste hug and hand-holding while the straight characters are way past that.
In movies from Latin America you do get better treatment of gay relationships, but since telenovelas are made for the masses, they just won't go there.

Also rare and one I would LOVE to see is a novela couple that doesn't want kids. So many people I can think of have no interest in children, yet novelas portray all couples as desperately wanting to start a family.

Julie:

I completely missed it that Perla is the one taking Emi to see Ahole. Oh, noes. I don't want Perla anywhere near Ahole. He is such a corrupter and will lie and lie to her, just to get her to help him out. Not a spoiler, just a theory. I am still laughing about your Chavella comment. It's so true.

Anon 2:41:

Yeah, I'm wondering who Leo's Option B is myself.

CathyX:

So glad to see you here. I too thought it was so odd that Leo needed a physical barrier between himself and Diego, very telling wasn't it? I too hope your theory about Frida is correct : )

Julia:

Between you and Julie I am still laughing. Could you just see Chavella and Isela alone in a room just braying and bleating. Oh, the horror! But maybe they would make each other deaf, just sayin'.

I believe (but perhaps I'm overly optimistic) that anyone who's stuck it out with Leo and Diego this far would be happy to see them kiss, if only just once.

I wonder, if there were a kiss - even just a little one - would Univision censor it to protect our virgin eyes?

Oh, maybe I misunderstood. I ASSUMED Perla was taking Emi to Ahole's, but I don't know WHY I assumed that... it's not as though she can drive or anything... maybe she just agreed to chaperone a visit (without Lupe's prior agreement). I suppose Ahole could pick them up at the house.

I don't know if it would be a good idea to put Chabelita and Isela together in any enclosed area for more than a few minutes. I sense that there is enough hairspray on those two heads to pose a serious fire hazard. One little spark of static electricity, and BAM!!

Julie, I was the one who asked if anyone agreed about Chabelita sounding like a bleating goat. So someone is hearing the same bleating as I am. LOL

ITA with your concern with Perla having any contact with Alejo modeling issue or not. She would not have been my first choice to take Emiliano to the meeting. Lupita should have gone herself for the first few visits to extablish some guidelines. Looks like Alejo is going to slip Emiliano some money (?) in the previews.

Jarifa

I agree with Julia and anon 1:43 that Frida is acting like that because she has not got to that point of 'a-ha!' moment (that MA already got to a few weeks ago) where they not only realize they are in love, but that the 'differences' they were building the walls for are not really there but in their minds and that they are better off going with the wave and accepting/owning up to their feelings and the relationship that is in front of them... once they jump on the boat it all looks much brighter and better from there... that is where MA is already and where Frida is not up to yet.

Julie, I also got the same impression that Perla was taking him to the park or wherever to meet Alejo. Well, we will see tonight if it was the right impression.

Jarifa

Based on all the stuff UNI has blocked in other TNs I'd say if there was ever a kiss between Leo and Diego they would block that too.

Anon 2:54:

Maybe there was a little kiss in "Sortilego"? I watched it when it reran last year. I can't remember if there was one in that one or not. It will be interesting if there is one here, if they don't censor it.

Jarifa and Julie:

I was confused about Perla taking Emi cause I thought, in an earlier convo, that Carmelita was going to do that, since she is staying at the Fonda and was making sure that she had Lupe's back so to speak. I'd rather Carm went than Perla. She knows how bad Ahole is in trying to win Emi over.

Madelaine, what I got with reference to Carmelita was that Carmelita was going to take care of Emiliano for Lupita on the day of the wedding if he was unable to spend the day at his friend's house. One of the problems I am having is keeping the number of days straight before the wedding and what is happening when. Oh, well, it will all come out tonight or soon, right?

Jarifa

Thank you so much, Mads!! Again, I find myself behind and hoping to catch up over the long memorial day weekend. Many thanks to the recappers who help keep me in the loop.

the wedding is supposedly tomorrow THEIR TIME.

Julie and Jarifa,

I thought the same thing but I went back to check just now and when Emiliano came into the kitchen, Lupe asked him why he was smiling and he replied, "Because my Tia Perla told me that this afternoon you are going to take me to see my papá." She didn't look pleased and Perla had a mischievous smile.

Carlos

Thanks, Carlos, for going back and checking that.

Jarifa

Jarifa,

"Looks like Alejo is going to slip Emiliano some money (?) in the previews."

I meant to also mention that I looked at that clip again as well... to me it looked like it may be even worse... I think he gives him a credit card.

Carlos

Carlos, All I can say is: Porca Miseria!

Jarifa

Jarifa:

Thanks about what Carm told Lupe. Now it makes more sense.

Carlos:

Thanks Amigo for going back to check. No wonder Perla had that snarky smirk on her face. Are those diet pills messing with Perla's head, or is she trying to get back at Lupe for some reason? Hmmmm.......

Marta:

Too true about TN timing. This wedding is going to take a long time : )

Perla probably resents Lupita for not taking advantage of having had a kid with Ahole for the financial gain of the family all these years, and maybe also for not using the connection to help Perla get modeling work. She doesn't know how terrible Ahole is.

Wow, Mads, what a punch bowl full of fun in your recap! and to come here and read up on so many wonderful old C2 friends. I too have been totally tickled by this TN but haven't commented much. I am working on my first museum show for November in Las Cruces, watching the TN's, all of them when I am in town but have been in Ecuador and Portugal so far this year so am now using Duolingo to polish up on Portuguese. I used a lot of Spanish while there and they are close enough that I can read it fairly well but pronunciation is my next bugaboo to conquer. Willa is almost 10 and still full of joy so life is good. Hi Carlos, Jarifa, Jarocha, Cathyx, Martaivett, Vivi, Julia and I hope I didn't miss anyone. But hello anyway.

Aloha Cheryl! Ecuador and Portugal sounds exciting! And a museum show! Is there a theme for this show? I remember really gorgeous horse photos you showed us once.

Cheryl, congratulations on your first museum show. That is a quite an accomplishment!

Jarifa

Cheryl:

It's so good to see you here and congrats on your new museum show. Please let us know how it is going and what the subject matter is. I too remember those pictures of horses, they were beautiful. Portugal and Ecuador, such beautiful places.

Cheryl- That is absolutely fabulous about your show! I assume the museum will have something up on their website. You must post the link when it's ready.

Can someone tell me what the deal is with that whole "countess and her parents" thing? Are they her real parents? and if not, why is she paying them? Is SHE rich, and they're not? I don't get what's going on with that?
