Que pobres tan ricos: the lower classes may be about to revolt.
I've missed a week of the show (being in New Jersey where I did not have Univision). So I don't know who this old lady in black is who says she's living an inferno, she has some problem with Bambi and is having to sell everything she has left. Mike pulls out a few pesos for her.
Frida shows a very unpleasant side of her personality tonight. Some guy in a really stupid two-toned outfit, a friend from the old days, sees her and invites her to hang out. She goes to some preppy watering hole with him and talks entitled-rich-kid-talk with her fresa friends. Perla's old friends grill her: Is it true you're broke? "My brother is marrying a contessa and we'll go to Spain."
Trofeo is trying to do Mike's job, now that Mike is fired, but he's not very good at it. But meanwhile, Wendy tells Mike he can help at the beauty parlor, she needs help. With the enthusiastic encouragement of all the customers, he agrees and gets paid after being lousy at everything from sweeping the floor to doing manicures. He is very impressed with himself for earning money. The ladies under the hair dryers stick money into his belt as if he were a stripper.
I missed a little something and then, here's the King of Sumatra looking glum and talking about ostriches.
After the commercials, Alejo is talking to the chief of Police: "If something terrible happens to this little old lady I will never forgive myself. I can't believe my cousin could do this." I don't know that the commandant is buying this: "Why would he kidnap his own grandmother?" "He's not right in the head, he's a blackmailer, and he probably killed Giron too. My cousin is a monster. Find him before it's too late." Is that really what was going on? Has the grandmother really been kidnapped and if so why isn't everybody upset?
The Menchacas are quite fed up with AS barking orders about the proper way to set a table and also with Leo pretending to hang himself when little details are awry. Incredibly, Leo offers his used shoes to the Menchacas as an incentive if they do a good job serving at his wedding. AS tells Perla: "Lose the camellia in her hair, we're not in Hawaii." Perla protests, the boys in the street like her look, they always whistle. Then AS tells Don Chuy he needs a better haircut and a comb. Listen carefully and you'll hear rumblings of mutiny.
Tomas the streetwise hacker lawyer shows up and talks with Mike about the money they need for (I think) analyzing handwriting? among other things.
Mike is very proud to show Lupe he has some actual money he actually earned (if you call that work). He wants to take her out on their first date as official novios. She tells him to practice whistling.
After being snubbed by Frida, Tizoc stalks out of the cafe. Frida follows. He invites her into his van, she's afraid her beige skirt will get dirty, he is not deterred. Her apology is quite lousy: "I miss my old life when I had money." "You just want me for my body" Tizoc jokes. She denies that. They make out in the van and then sneak back home to go in separate doors so nobody will know they've been together.
Hah, the obsessed Banana King wants Wendy to help him look Mike up on the internet but she says she doesn't involve herself in gossip.
Well, while all this has been going on Tizoc's band members have waited for him in vain at the cafe. Leo makes a Shakespeare joke when he sees them: "To gel, or not to gel, that is the question." He and Frida just can't stop dissing the proletariat.
Alejo calls Lupe to complain about her keeping Emiliano away from him. She says they're too busy with the wedding and all for anybody to take Emiliano over there. The boy hears this and is steamed.
Vilma tells Alejo the law is on his side! He has rights and can force Lupe to give him the boy! However, he can't afford to get her furious because in order to win the jackpot he has to marry her! Vilma also suggests that Lupe may know where Mike is.
Lupita begs off from the dinner with Mike, she doesn't want to leave the house because her son's mad at her. Mike is worried: "He's not usually capricious or cranky with you..."
Minerva tortures Alejo next morning. He says he's ready to make things go more smoothly with the divorce. "I'll give you the house. I don't want it, it smells of sulphur." Minerva is holding out for more and knows she has him by the short hairs, because in order for him to marry Lupe and get the jackpot, he has to be divorced. While gloating, she insults him about his prowess in bed: "You can't even last three minutes, you're a disaster, Mike is 1000 times better." "You, Minerva, and Mike are the cause all my troubles." "HE is a man!"
Tomorrow: looks like a lot of kisses.

I liked:
MA helping out doña Queta Bambi's auntie.
MA's beauty shop "worj" experience.
MA finally being able to whistle once.
Nepo and don Chuy apologizing to each other and shaking hands.
Minerva telling Alejo how superior MA was to his three minutes.
I didn't like:
How Frida treated Tizoc in front of her friends.
Alejo telling the detective he thought that MA had kidnapped his grandmother doña Mati.
Nepo still obsessed with the MA/Lupita situation and now being fixated on why MA needs to prove his innocence. Nepo is beyond tedious at this point but he does know how to spell "uva" "sin hache".
Lupita not being proactive in setting up a visitation schedule with Alejo.
Vilma telling Alejo he can always take Lupita to court to see Emiliano.
Emiliano being bratty.

The old lady wrapped in black is gangster Bambi's aunt. She was sheltering him while he was hiding from the police. She had a stand in the market next to Nepo's fruit stand and got to know MA when he worked for Nepo.
Near the beginning, Grandma Mati was shipped to a nursing home by Alejo. He bribed the medical team to mess with her meds. She was in danger of being eliminited by slimy Alejo. MA found her, rescued her with a midnight dumpster run, and brought her to live at the Menchacas with the rest of the family. She knew Don Chuy from earlier years and has a cordial relationship with him.
Thanks so much for this awesome recap. I missed the show this evening but with this great recap I didn't miss a thing : )
Oh, noes, I hope the cops don't go looking for Dona Mati. I want her to stay safe with the Menchaca and not in another home where Ahole has access to her meds.
I can't wait for this wedding. This should be a hoot and a half. I with Julie, I hope all of us get to recap a part of it.
I guess they let Dona Queta go. I wonder if she has lost her chicken stand? I hope not. She is also so cute.
I'm sorry I missed MA helping out at La Guendy's salon. That must have been a hoot.
Jarifa-Our thumbs up/thumbs down lists are almost identical. I completely understand Lupe wanting to be present when Emi is with Ahole, but if she keeps putting off a visit things will only get worse.
I was very disappointed with Fri.
So it was all a 'fake' at the beginning of the novela when she was leading protests against prejudiced treatment of the poor.
LOVE your comparison of 'Prince of Platanos' vs 'countess' as the reason for Leo's being blue.
and a couple other explanations...
the last time the 'countess' and her 'parents' talked to AS they mentioned that they would send AS the family 'crest' over email so she could include it in the invitations... so that is where AS was headed at the beginning of the episode, to get the crest and order the invitations..
about 'the King of Sumatra looking glum and talking about ostriches.' Chuy had just appologized to Nepo for hiding the fact that Lupe and MA were a couple (he chose to leave out the fact that MA is a runaway from the law so he knows he is STILL hiding that part from Nepo). When Nepo left, Chuy told Carm that he felt like an ostrich feeling like hiding his head in the ground so he won't have to face what he did.
About Tomas and MA conversation about 'analyzing handwriting?' i think you mean when they were talking about Tomas running the errands to have the deeds to the Menchaca's house transferred over to Don Chuy. Deed in spanish is 'escritura' which could have been translated to handwriting in the cc's.
the obsessed Banana King wants Wendy to help him look Mike up on the internet ...
that was about Nepo remembering that several Menchaca's mentoined that MA was trying to prove his innocence, so Nepo wants to find out what is behind that... is MA hiding from someone or what? and that is what he wanted to investigate, so he was poking Gwendy for more details but she is the other one that does not know this part.
Nepo and Trofeo with spelling of Huba vs uva… ‘the h is silent’ according to them.. LOL! If they only knew it was spelled correctly the first time! UVA.
and I totally agree with Sara, keeping Emiliano away from A-hole with the excuse of lack of time will only make Emiliano run away to see his dad... so that will mean big trouble.
Yes, the Banana Prince is much nobler than the Countless Macarena in every way. Alas...
I wish they had replayed the phone call with Count Mom and Count Dad last night, because I wanted to know EXACTLY which person said "They'd better not find out that we're not really counts!" (Deleted Monday night's recording before I realized that this detail might be relevant.) Because if it was one of the "parents" who said that, then it's still possible that Maca herself really is a countess. A broke countess, but a real one.
Mads, I think Bambi's aunt Queta did lose the chicken stand, or else she's too ashamed of her nephew to reopen the stand and show her face in public again (and definitely not sell Bambi Chicken!)
Bambi pretty much convinced her to abandon the stand when she was sheltering him. Now he apparently isn't sending her any money, even though he's obviously still MAKING money because he's making Alejo launder it!
Thanks about Dona Queta and the chicken stand. The poor thing. She stuck her neck out for Bambi.
Sara:
That would be a great scenario if Bambi is an undercover agent. Serve Ahole right!
Marta:
I thought the same thing about MA and Bambi. They could really have time to talk and compare notes. Then it would suck to be Ahole!
Too bad that in all the dithering about the name and signage for the juice biz, no one thought to nix the stupid extraneous quotation marks on the sign. I "hate" when "people" use "those". And I don't even want to know why a juice stand has a basket of eggs. Gross.
Super disappointed in Frida's regression. Isn't she old enough to know that dissing people or pretending to be something she isn't to gain the approval of others only makes her less cool? Owning your situation, refusing to be humiliated no matter what people say to you, and being secure and confident enough to be gracious to anyone is a far better path to gaining the social upper hand. If Tato and his ilk need to put others down in order to feel that they have higher status, then their status isn't really that high, is it?
I would be quite happy if Frida ditched that crowd and made friends with some of the more normal looking kids we've seen in the background of the school scenes...the ones who were impressed by Tizoc's parkour abilities.
In any case, I agree that Bambi is more likely to take Ahole down than vice versa, because Bambi holds more of the cards. Even in prison, Bambi commands more power and resources than Ahole as a free man.
If MA joins Bambi in prison, Ahole is probably more likely to come out of this thing alive because MA could maybe convince Bambi not to have Ahole whacked. Ahole would probably rather be dead, though, especially considering that Bambi is pretty much running the place.
I think they use whey now instead, but I know that powdered egg whites are still used in some drink recipes to make them frothy.
I suppose Nepo could also be selling hardboiled eggs as a snack to go with the juice.
My question is, why aren't the eggs in the fridge??
Oh, and I REALLY hate "quotation marks" used "willy-nilly" for "emphasis." It looks "sarcastic." Especially when people write "thank you" in quotes - even when I know they're being sincere, the quotes give it a snarly sound.
Still no wedding, yet?
Why is Alejo just now putting the police on the Mati situation? Did something happen?
Saaaaay... is Ahole's weenie still broken? He ought to be quite horny by now.
I guess people put "thank you" in quotes as a way to emphasize it, like underlining or using italics. I sometimes see it printed on receipts and signs. E.g.
"Thank you" for shopping here!
Or
We "Thank You" for Not Littering
Jarifa
Also, I still can't figure out how AS and Maca each think this is going to work. Do they think as soon as the priest pronounces them wed, there are no backsies so anything goes? How is AS planning to break it to Maca after the wedding? "Welcome to the family, and by the way, we're all moving in with you and you're giving us spending money." Does Maca think the RPs will never find out her parents aren't counts and she has no money to pay for anything? Or does she think they'll just have to get over it because they're already married so what can they do?
I am really perplexed as to how this marrying for money thing is supposed to work when the parties aren't in agreement beforehand that they're trading cash for status or something like that.
I think that the wedding will get called off right before it happens. Somehow they will find out that neither has money and that that's the only reason they want to marry each other in the first place.
