Que pobres tan ricos Wednesday: tableclothes, diet pills, Ave Maria, and smooching to the sound of a banshee vocalist.

I enjoyed the rerun of yesterday's last Alejo-Minerva squabble: "You're no guru of sex, you 3-minute wonder, you're a fiasco in bed, MIKE is who I like!" Alejo flushes murderously and bellows: "He's not in Italy, where is he?" He starts to strangle her but she brains him with a vase. Her mom, for once, runs in too late to join in the fun. The mom wants Minerva to tell Alejo where Mike is in exchange for getting absolutely everything she wants in the divorce settlement, but no, Minerva says she never will - and forbids her mom to interfere.

It's the day before the wedding. The Menchacas are eating breakfast when Ana Sofia hustles in and wants them to commence packing. Lupita is going to take a load of stuff to the hacienda, AS says she's coming along "so you don't break my Limoges."

Mike has dressed inappropriately for packing but he's here to help (actually, just to be near his sweetie). The dad is glowering. Mike sits down with Tizoc and Perla and calls them his in-laws, heh.

Grandmother is helping with the packing. She is quite surprised to hear Leo is marrying - "A woman?? Noooooo!..." That was interesting. Ana Sofia comes between Frida and Tizoc to hiss "Don't break the plates before the wedding," which I believe is a bit of sex education which we know is a day late and a dollar short.

Mike wants to go to the hacienda with Lupita, so Ana Sofia gets uninvited. That ikky guy that will do anything for AS in return for future favors is now going to be dispatched to pick up all the guests, including the Emperor of Japan. The pesos are flying out the door but Leo reminds his mom they will get back every penny from his bride's family. Which we now know is not true.

Lupita is finally fed up with the condescension from Mike's mother and says: "Respect me and talk to me like decent people."

So Mike and Lupita head out for the hacienda with the car full of stuff. The van dies on the way. Mike says he's an expert with cars, looks under the hood with astonishment (maybe it's all held together with bungee cords in there) and gives the engine a random slap. It starts right up.

PSA: Perla, don't take those diet pills! Tizoc catches her and says he'll tell daddy--but he won't. She takes more.

At the office Vilma tenderly tends to Alejo's wounds, he whines like a baby. She hypothesizes: maybe Minnie has been seeing Mike. The mom comes in to tell all but Alejo chases her away. Minnie runs into her mom on her way out and warns her not to tell or "I'll commit matricide." I think the mom may have said "We will end up on the vile street of bitterness."

Now for my favorite scene: Tizoc lip synching Ave Maria while his punky bandmates do synchronized hand movements with very funny pious looks on their punky faces. It was hysterical, I don't know how they did it without cracking up. They were magnificent. Ana Sofia: "Well, it's not the Symphony Orchestra of Berlin, but it's not bad."

The van dies again and this time two or three random blows don't fix it. In short, Mike convinces Lupita they should spend the night at the hacienda and call in a mechanic the next day. She says they'll just get all the work done, but Mike has other ideas, and he prevails. He ignores the constant calls from Minerva (why doesn't he turn off his phone?) and they sink down in front of the very artificial fire. The music is ghastly, who wants to hear this bellowing pop singer and that annoying back beat while making out? Mike and Lupita should put their ear plugs in.

Carmelita is amused about the unscheduled night of romance and tells Lupita to have fun, but when Don Chuy finds out he is more than irritated. Carmelita says "Leave her alone! They're not sneaking, and she isn't fifteen years old. Don't be a jealous macho." "I know it's not the fashion any more to lock them up, that's a pity!"

AS invites Wendy to the wedding - to do her hair and makeup. Wendy is not overwhelmed by the thought of getting to join the servidumbre. She's coiffing the banana prince during this conversation, he is very sad. Wendy muses, apropos of nothing: "Lots of people thought Mike was gay and his friend Saul too." She then muses about a wedding--she can't remember if it was real or on tv--in which the bride was stolen away. Perhaps this is foreshadowing.

Though Leo is dismissive, Ana Sofia is pleased with both the curtain dresses, they are very well made. He thinks she should wear one of her couture dresses from before, but she demurs: "Like the Queen of England, I never repeat an outfit."

By the fire, Lupe tells Mike he should leave the country but he doesn't want to be parted from her. Minerva calls some more.

Tomorrow: the wedding!

Thanks so much for another splendid recap this week. I have really missed your splendid recaps : )

I liked the getaway with Lupe and MA. It was great they got to spend some time together.

I too thought Tizoc and his band with the Ave Maria was wonderful. It was the best harmonizing with out the opera music that usually goes with the Ave Maria.

I am so glad Carmelita told Don Chuy like it was. He needs a wake up call that Lupe is not 15, but is a grown woman that can make her own decisions. It's funny when Lupe told Nepo off and Don Chuy too they never listened. Nepo now gets it maybe? but Don Chuy still has a lot to learn.

Those dresses that Carmelita made for AS weren't bad. She did say she could accessorize them with some stuff she had. I can't wait to see how she does that.

The guy after AS all the time is Don Solomon, he's a pawnbroker that she keeps borrowing money from, he's in love with her, she can't stand him.

I bet Dona Mati has had a clue about Leo all along. She does seem to know all the kids better than AS does.

I am so glad that Guendy is going to be at this wedding, it will be guaranteed to be a hoot. I can't wait to recap tomorrow night : )

Oh, one last thing. I don't like Perla taking those diet pills. The girl doesn't need them. How on earth does she think she is fat?

Jane, thanks for another enjoyable recap. I liked the "Ave Maria" as well--a better performance than some others we've seen at TN weddings.

MA had the advantage of knowing the hacienda well, since the owner is a family friend and he said he played there in his childhood. It was a great setup for the rendezvous with Lupe. He cracked me up when he stole Don Chuy's frequent line, "come to my fire (or heat)" as the camera focused on the flames.

Jane, thanks for another very fine recap. I especially enjoyed: "Perla, don't take those diet pills."

Funny for me:

Alejo and Minerva at it again. He calls her a "maldita lagartija cara palida" : a damn pale faced lizard and she threatens to sue him for attempted murder after their physical altercation. Thren his suggestion that she eat her cosmetics so she can be pretty on the inside.

AS perking up when don Salomon starts talking about the "beverages" for the wedding. AS wiping her hand off with her own spit after he kisses it.

MA and Carmelita with their "look how I leave" hip swaying exits.

MA reluctant to sit at don Chuy's seat at the table.

AS's positive reaction to "Ave Maria".

In the previews: AS saying "Addio" to "porca miseria".

Not funny:

Isela ready to deal MA's freedom for all they can get from Alejo.

Thank you, Jane! I haven't watched the episode, but if anything I will FF to the Ave Maria.

I can't wait for the wedding!

Great recap, Jane!
love your line about the diet pills!
about that... the way Perla got Tizoc to stay with his mouth shut was to warn him that she would tell their dad about his bedside dates with Frida...

and at the end MA told Lupe all about the gun and how he left the gun at the scene with Adolfo and they could accuse him of murder if someone found it... (which is fulfilled in the previews since they match the fingerprints to MA... now how did they do that? well, they had his entire house and car to get his fingerprints from, I guess.)
so after that they are worried that the cops could accuse him of murder and that is when she suggests he needs to not only leave the neighboorhood but the country. He does not want to leave her side (EVER!) now that he found her (he told her outside that he did not mind much loosing everything he used to have because he found what he NEEDED, HER!), and that is what leads to the romantic ending...

and thanks for all the snap likes i missed like MA calling Perla and Tizoc his in-laws and AS comment to Frida and Tizoc about breaking plates... a day late and a dollar short indeed!

about: looks under the hood with astonishment (maybe it's all held together with bungee cords in there) LOVED the line about bungee cords, i would not be surprised... btw, who says MA is better at car fixing than he faked last night? he just wanted some time alone with Lupe, IMO.

sure MA would know the hacienda, it is Chavela's and AS and Chavela have been friends a long time so not surprised he was there as a kid...

Did anyone else see DA's eyes pop out when Gwendy mentioned that they thought Saul was gay? loL!!

i am absolutely certain that this night of passion of MA and Lupe will have 'consequences' and Chuy will go through the roof...

Thanks for the recap!

I was surprised at how good the Ave Maria sounded. Tizoc and the band really did a nice job. Even Leo seemed to enjoy it and wanted to applaud at the end but held himself waiting for Ana Sofia's reaction. He wouldn't be as snobbish if he wasn't so influenced by her.

Poor DA was confused with who's gay and who is not...Then when Gwendy told him about the bride being stolen by her love at that wedding she saw, he seemed to find that idea very interesting. I wonder if he'll think of stealing the groom at this wedding?

Jarifa:

That was so funny, the MA and Carmelita swaying with the boxes. I think Carmelita's was the best ; )

Thanks for another great recap, Jane!

I have a feeling this will be the last nookie session between MA and Lupe before MA has to go on the run for real, or is caught and locked up. I just hope we get the wedding before that happens.

I was cheering Carmelita when she told Chuy off for getting angry and bent out of shape that his adult daughter was spending the night with her boyfriend. I wish someone would spill the beans to him that it was AS who stole the money and not MA.

Loved Tizoc and his band singing the Ave Maria with all their ironic facial expressions and coordinated hand movements, while at the same time singing it well. AS and Leo had to try hard NOT to say anything good about it.

Jarifa:

One more thing : ) I really laughed at that line about Mini eating her cosmetics to be "pretty inside", he has a nerve! Ahole wouldn't be pretty inside even if he had a colon cleanse, jus' sayin' ; )

Madelaine, you are so right about Alejo, NOTHING could "prettify" him inside.

Jarifa

I agree, Madelaine and Jarifa... that was waaay out there and he should not be talking about that being the way he is.
I was actually surprised at the violence he showed in the first scene last night grabbing Mini like that. Then again, if he can shoot a gun full of bullets into someone as easily as he did and then frame someone else, anything can be expected of him.

I don't like that Isela is thinking of giving MAs hiding place to Alejo. Hopefully she'll reconsider otherwise he could be arrested before the wedding even takes place.

Marta- I was less surprised by Alejo's violence than I was by Mini brushing it off. I don't she realizes just how dangerous Alejo is. I think she believes he is all bark and no bite.

That's, I don't think she realizes how dangerous he is.

Thanks, Jane! Fantastic recap.

That Ave Maria was the greatest Ave Maria rendition I have ever seen or heard. What a laugh. I left it on the DVR. Think if I watch it for 15 minutes every day, I can get abs like Tizoc's from the laughing? I don't know how they got through it without cracking up, either. They probably needed 30 takes.

Great wedding suggestion, Guendy. I wonder if Diego will find a way to go and take some action. It was funny when he was trying to pin down her gossip, all "WHO is gay?" and she was so oblivious to his interest, even when he specifically asked about Leo.

I wonder if they will get Mati some real day clothes for the wedding. Will she be able to go? Or would someone report her whereabouts to Ahole? Maybe she could wear a disguise. It would be a bummer if she had to stay behind and miss all the action.

Thanks so much for your recap Jane, both yesterday and today.

I've gotten behind on this tn but plan on catching up on the weekend. But I'll be FF through any scenes w/Nepo.

Mati may have to stay behind like MA will because if someone recognizes them they could tell Alejo.
Or Alejo may even invite himself to the wedding if he finds out about it!

Thanks again, Jane. Minerva is my hero! She seemed almost nonchalant about bonking Ahole on the head with the vase.

Let's see... he's strangled her, stabbed her in the fake-baby-belly, and hit her in the face. I think it's possible that she DOES know how dangerous he is, but believes (correctly or not) that she can handle him because he continually underestimates her.

As for Mike's clothes, he never dresses appropriately for manual labor. He usually wears a tie everywhere.

I was also impressed by that Ave Maria. I've heard some very bad ones in TNs (not necessarily bad singing, but good singing that's out of sync or out of key with the music, bad acoustics in the church, etc.). The choreography was awesome. :-)

AS is going to be desperate for money when the Countless Family falls through. Will she agree to spend another "evening" with Sharky, this time without her ferocious chaperone? Or will she be tempted Ahole's previous offer of financial comfort in exchange for MA's whereabouts?

And if the latter, will she have to fight Isela for the opportunity to sell MA down the river?

I love getting the extra details from those of you who have been watching all along. I've only seen about five of these episodes so I need the help! It's been such a sweet tn (while I've been watching) I hope they don't start torturing our heroes.

Leo has been looking more and more unhappy about his wedding. I would love if the Banana Prince stole him away from the altar!

Diego is so sweet, I can't imagine him stealing Leo away no matter how much he wants to. But I did get the feeling that he was hatching a plan of some kind!

Maybe he was trying to think of an excuse to invite himself to the wedding, or looking for a way to spend a little more time with Leo before the wedding. Like, has anyone offered to throw Leo a bachelor party? Being taken to a strip joint might prompt Leo to rethink his plans.

Is there even time for a bachelor party? I love the idea of Diego doing that.

I'm a little confused on the timeline. Is it the night before the wedding already? Are Maca and her "parents" and everyone arriving just in time for the wedding?

When AS invited Gwendy she told her that it was for the day after tomorrow. so the wedding is 2 days away in TN time.

Time for a bachelor party, then! Woo-hooooo!!!

Even if the wedding were tomorrow, they could have the bachelor party tonight. (Ask my mother what she thinks about bachelor parties that take place the night before her wedding.)

I was thinking this party would just be Leo and Diego, anyway. ;-)

Speaking of very small events... even if Sharky's alleged cousin can print, address, and send error-free invitations by overnight courier right now, the recipients will barely have time to buy lame gifts, shower, dress, and drive out to the hacienda. Is the lure of lesser royalty really great enough to attract a significant number of last-minute invitees? Especially the high-ranking VIPs that AS is inviting only to impress her "friends"?

And of the invitees who do attend and actually know Leo, how many of them will be heard murmuring, "But I thought Leonardo was gay?"

Bachelor party...
MA can plan the financial budget and find a way to sneak out early.
Tizoc can provide music and his 'fisicoculturismo' posing.
DA can bring his hormones or be the masked hero who kidnaps Leo...
Salomon... well, he will try to get the 'stripper girl' to himself in his 'limo'.
Leo will be totally paranoic... and come up with 24 'options' of where to be BUT there.
Chuy will skip it.
Nepo will be the surprise guest bringing a very interesting edible arrangement...
Trofeo will be the stripper (dressed like a girl of course)?
Tato will be the punching bag once they all get wasted.
Saul will show up by mistake and take his exit his usual way 'Quedo de Uds atentamente Saul Ballesteros'.
Bambi will finance the whole thing and escape from prison temporarily to attend.
Tomas will make all the arrangements and be the MC.
Jonathan will get wasted and a mad Jennifer will come get him.

LOL, Marta!

Excellent party plan, Marta! And I think there should be a small afterparty, just Diego and Leo. I like the idea of Diego in costume? Remember the masked luchador in Gancho? Some thing that looked like a green bug? That outfit worked pretty well for Aldo, and it was funny.

So, if the wedding is two days away and invitations haven't been sent, the guests from the D.F. are barely going to make it, and then only if they happen to be free then (or have already found out when the wedding is from AS, which maybe applies to a few of her friends). How does anyone think all these supposed European royalty are going to show up? Does AS even have addresses for them? Of course I suspect even if she did, they would be like "Macarena who?" and put it in the stack to have their secretary decline, but even in AS's delusional fantasy that they are going to attend, they would need to be getting on planes already! Or at least within the next day.

Thank you, Jane! I am so impressed with how quickly you got the lay of the land after watching this for such a short time. This really is a sweet and funny novela: the villains are mostly amusing and even have good qualities, the good guys, while endearing, have plenty of flaws, too. If you go back to watch the first few episodes you won't believe how stuffy MA was. He's been a work in progress for the last 18 (or so) weeks. Sometimes I think the whole novela, besides being a comedy and a love story, is a public service lesson about values. I love this show.
Some favorite parts for me from last night were
- watching Mini and Mom putting on their makeup in unison on the bed
- hearing Lupe speak up to AS about her attitude and tone of voice
- hearing Carmelita give Chuey her little lecture
- all those other things already mentioned by you astute commenters and summary writers
Thanks to all!

So if diego does take Leo to a strip club would it be to see women or men?

A strip club is too lowbrow for their artistic tastes. They would go to an art museum full of nudes, both male and female, and it's nobody's beeswax which they appreciate more :).
