Que Pobres Tan Ricos: Danger-Mike must flee!

Hi guys, sorry for the short recap, I'm about to go fly in a plane!

The main theme of Wednesday's episode is Mike going into hiding from his own hiding place (la Nopalera, I think is its fancy name).

Tearful goodbye w/ Lupita, they love each other, blah blah, no one can ever separate them but they have to separate until things blow over a little bit.

Detective Alejo gets a little closer to catching Mike - Isela tells him he's been hiding at La Nopalera. He will now set out to go catch him and turn him in!

Now Mike's whole family comes to give him a huge goodbye, even Ana Sofia, who is very lovey despite her tearful moping she's  been doing! She loves Mike with all her heart!

Anyway, please comment and tell us your favorite parts of the episode.

Thanks!

Thanks so much for putting up this discussion header.

I really liked the group hug with the familia when MA was leaving La Nopalera and MA hiding his tears.

I also liked the group hugs at Guendy's, with Carmelita and Lupe and how Guendy said her door was always open with some prodding from Carmelita.

MA has grown so much. I liked his little tour on his way to meet Saul, giving the sandwich to a down and out guy, and shaking his head at the guy that didn't tip the clown. He really has grown.

I feel bad for both Tizoc and Frida. Such crappy days for both of them. I am glad they have each other.

I had to laugh when Don Solomon, brought over that bottle of gin for Ana Chofi. Don Chuy, Mati, Leo and Frida wouldn't get it for her. Good for them. She had to go get it herself.

I am liking Leo being the head of the house now, and Mati's talk with both Leo and AS. Hopefully, Leo listened as well as AS.

Isela ratted poor MA out and told Ahole that MA was in La Nopalera. For shame Isela, for shame I say! This will not be good. I don't want Ahole going there and finding Dona Mati. This would so not be good for her.

I had to laugh when Mini tossed MA in the back of her vehicle, but those avances, Que, Que, What????? What is Mini up to?????

Ezra, thanks for the recap.

Sad episode with so many funny parts:

I couldn't believe it but Guendy actually said (trying to justify her listening to MA and Lupita saying goodbye) that the reason she was doing it was because she might come up with something "yabadabadu"!

AS was so pathetic in her bed asking Leo to get a priest to give her the last rites, hoping that merciful God would take her to his bosom soon. The only problem is that she wanted DaVinci to join her. Yikes!

Alejo added to the humor by referring to his "Napoleanic strategies."

Doña Mati spoke the truth telling her family that their problem was that they were all depending on MA when they all could do something for themselves. That same sentiment was echoed by don Chuy talking to AS. She was moaning that they have so much less than the Menchacas. Don Chuy asked why don't you work like everyone else. Novel idea for AS. Had me laughing.

AS asked Don Chuy what else was going to happen to her. Was she going to get struck (split) by lightening? And then we heard the thunderclap from above.

Don Salomon sure knew the road to AS's heart: a bottle of gin along with a bit of a respite on her interest payment. I still want to see them end up together.

Doña Mati told the family that don Aureliano would have disinherited all if them (except MA) for being lazy and useless.

The final farewell scene between AS and MA was priceless with DaVinci whining in between them. He was so cute.

Frida used a completely new expression, for me, when she was commiserating with Tizoc on their very bad day. She told him "Estamos del super nabo" (a nabo is a turnip) "We are in a really really bad situation." It is an expression from DF so they are being authentic.

Minerva told MA that he was smelly before shoving him in her trunk.

I lked that Lupita made food for MA and took him to pray to Saint Jude patron saint of impossible causes.

I wonder what adventures await MA after he emerges from Minerva's trunk.

One last thing:

Overly dramatic AS was wondering what they were going to do to get money: beg? prostitute themselves? sell drugs? sell their organs? Seems like anything short of getting a legit job is a possibility. Too funny

Jarifa

Ezra-Thanks for posting this mini recap, and safe travels.

Jarifa- Thanks for pulling out the best scenes. MA's farewells were sad, but I'm glad he's leaving on good terms with almost everyone. Still wish Chuy knew who really stole that money.

While I'm sad for Tizok, I also think this was best for him. He was getting such a swollen head and everything he said was me, me, me. The other guy seems more like a team player, even if he's also getting this opportunity because he's related to the producer. It was nice to see him and Frida being there for each other.

Vivi, ITA about Tizoc. He was becoming insufferable.

Madelaine, I hadn't thought about doña Mati being at risk from Alejo also. That could be the end of her. :(

Jarifa

Taking Mati back would be a burden to Ahole except that he could use her 'wellbeing' as hook/bait to get Lupe to accept to marry him or to get paperwork 'signed' by Mati to transfer over the Menchaca house to him so he could 'kick the Menchacas out' if she did not marry him... No wonder MA told Tomas to hurry up with the deed transfer paperwork so Alejo would not get past them...

...giving the sandwich to a down and out guy, and shaking his head at the guy that didn't tip the clown. He really has grown.

totally agree, Mads. MA is not only tasting being in the other side (homeless, pennyless, helpless) but also remembering how he probably ignored those folks so many times when just a little bit he would have given them would have gone such a long way... he definitely has and is still growing. can't wait to see his adventures ...

Also agree about Tizoc... time for him to be shaken up and see his band as his teammates rather than his marionettes. Get off the ego bandwagon. That guy's initial appearance had inflated his ego.

Marta:

That's exactly what I meant about Dona Mati. Ahole would try and make Lupe marry him and I wouldn't put it past Ahole to try and put Dona Mati in another one of those homes to "medicate" her again. This time though, there is Don Chuy, and I don't think Ahole will be able to get past Don Chuy. Thanks for what MA told Tomas. I hope all that paperwork is filed, before Ahole figures out where MA was.

Jarifa:

That whine of Da Vinci's was so sad. It was like Da Vinci was telling MA not to go.

This is the second time that Ahole has compared himself to Napoleon. Too bad he seems to have forgotten that Napo got exiled to Elba.

That thunderclap was so funny, and I had to laugh at AS when she said she didn't mean it literally, I think.

Thanks for the phrase that Frida used. I am learning so much slang from this one.

that is the point of the house being in Chuy's name. If the house is his, then he has a say if Mati wants to stay there on her own free will and Alejo would probably not be able to take her away. if Alejo gets a legal hold of the house, he literally could kick them all out AND take Mati away again. If Chuy owns it, they could use the house as her 'sanctuary' while they test her again to prove/disprove that she is 'incapacitated'.

Marta:

And MA still has that paperwork of the tests he had Dona Mati take, to see what Ahole medicated her with. Now she has new meds and new doctors that have already said that Dona Mati doesn't have Alzheimer's and hopefully Don Chuy is fully aware of what Ahole did before. I know at some point, not a spoiler, that Ahole will try to say that Dona Mati has Alzheimer's and want to haul her off. I too am hoping this paperwork is soon in Don Chuy's name and Don Chuy can tell Ahole to take a hike!

MA's going-away scene with his family was really touching.

In the scene with the band, did someone say something about Pelambres having an uncle Beto? Any chance this is the same Beto as Ahole's hapless flunkie?

For me, the two funniest scenes (actually, two funny things in the same scene) were:

1. Chuy intercepting Sharky's air-kiss to Sofia and throwing it back.

2. Dramatic moment emphasized by thunder (it's a square on my bing card).

Oops, I meant BINGO card.

I did a double-take at "super-nabo" until I realized that the common English expression "to be in a pickle" is just as weird.

Thanks Ezra for your recap.

Mads, ITA that it was nice to see MA's growth. I hope he can catch a break soon and the rest of his family will grow up.

Really hope Alejo can't get his hands on the Mechacas house or Mati. And while completely in character, sad that Isela ratted out MA.

Favorite parts were:
The RP group hug. Even AS and Davinci got emotional with MA's departure.

MA telling Leo he's the head of the family now. Maybe that means he'll finally go out and get a job!

Though I didn't like Isela rattling out MA, I did like how she had to describe the neighborhood, the people, the smell and everything at La Nopalera before giving out the info. Vilma even had to get Alejo the stress ball cause he was getting pissed off at her!

Tizoc not getting that contract was the best for him. He needed to get his feet back on the ground.

Also liked when all the RPs refused to get the gin for AS. Leo really makes a good impression of Don Solomon.

Thanks, Ezra.

Haven't seen it yet, but I'm glad Tizoc has had a setback. He was getting super full of himself. You could see at that session at the studio that he wasn't a team player at all; he expected to be the star, and he was very jealous when the other guy was getting more attention.

Also, he really needs to stop describing himself as "The Justin Bieber of Whatever"! That is not a good thing! Be careful what you wish for; you might get it!

I hope that Leo will get a job, and Frida too. She could probably find something for after school, and she isn't a minor. I think at the very least she should work in Guendy's salon since Perla isn't doing that anymore. That could be good for her. I don't have high hopes for AS actually doing anything to help herself.

Does anyone remember/know how old Frida, Perla and Tizoc supposed to be?

Jarifa

We know Frida is 18, or I guess possibly 19 at the most, because she's still in prepa but it's been stated that she is not a minor. Not sure about Tizoc and Perla.

I thought Frida was 17, Perla was 19 and Tizoc was 20.

I forgot to add that I think Frida is only 17 cause AS had to sign for her scholarship paperwork a bit back. If she was of age, she wouldn't have needed her Mama's signature.

Several characters have mentioned that Frida is "mayor de edad". So I think she's 18. I think she still could have needed a parent signature for the school thing. I needed my parents to sign things for financial aid stuff when I was in college. School things can keep you in a limboland of being an adult but still a dependent.

Thank you for the recap Ezra!

It would make sense for Frida to be 17 since she is in her last year of preparatoria but she has said she is "mayor de edad" a couple of times. I think the writers probably decided to make her 18 so that Tizok wouldn't be breaking the law by sleeping with her if he is supposed to be 20 or more (I can't remember if his age was ever said but I do think of him around 20 for some reason. I know novelas have no issue with letting high schoolers date twenty somethings but they usually don't have sex with them, unless the guy is evil.

I don't know about Perla.

Jarocha

Thanks, Julia and Madelaine. With the age of majority in Mexico being 18, we could say if Frida is not 18 already she is close to it. Maybe a continuity problem with the writers because I can remember her being of age and a relative needing to sign for her at school. So, we have four young people with no practical plans or direction for the future. Leo is in his own artizuki world, Frida has her model fantasy, Tizoc his music dream and Frida? She has returned to school for a while but also seems without any real direction. We know AS is the problem with the Ruizpalacios kids but Don Chuy seems to be so practical and responsible. I wonder why he does not expect more from his two youngest children. I wonder what the youngest Ruizpalacios DaVinci would say about his plans if he were able to talk?

Jarifa

Jarifa

Thanks, Jarocha!

Jarifa

Correction: I should have said Perla has her model fantasy.

Jarifa

Make that FIVE aimless young adults! Diego Armando also has no clue what he wants to do, except something in los artuquis and not futbol.

I am also a little surprised that Tizoc and Perla are getting away with not having regular jobs and pursuing their dreams on the side. I think Tizoc earns some money once in a while helping with handyman stuff or the fonda, and Perla quit the salon and only very occasionally under duress helps out at the fonda. How do they have spending money? They see Lupita and Chuy stressing about money; how do they not feel compelled to contribute more?

Jarocha and Julia, you guys had me laughing with the 'artizuki' and 'artuki' stuff... too funny.

Chuy and Lupe have both tried to encourage the younger Menchacas to do something with their lives. However, if I put myself in Perla's or Tizoc's shoes, I'd look at Lupe and Chuy who always seem so worried, and I would wonder if they really knew what they were talking about.

I do recall Tizoc taunting Tato and his friends at the prepa about how working hard at a manual job was nothing to be ashamed of. I've noticed, though, that he doesn't actually do much of anything unless it's band-related, or he's trying to impress Frida, or his dad pushes him to do it. He doesn't have any initiative.

But perhaps now that his band has dumped him he'll be forced to stop clinging to that particular ambition.

Very early on, we talked about the possibility that Leo might be able to help the band. Maybe now would be a good time for Tizoc and Leo to join forces because dude, these guys need to do something.

Frida can get gigs for the new Leo-Tizoc band, but sadly, I have NO ideas for Perla. She still has no discernible skills. She can't even be a go-go dancer for the new band because of her diet pill habit. It's not cool to faint at every show.

I think Tizoc and Perla may receive something when they help at the fonda, besides their tips.

If singing doesn't work for Tizoc he could go back to martial arts and train to be a coach. I can't recall what he knows but Tae Kwon-Do is very popular in Mexico. It's where we win the most medals in international competitions and most of the kids want to learn it.

Perla should go back to help Gwendy.

Frida can still go to a job fair at her school or take some counseling there about what to do since I think she'll want to go to college. Maybe with her initial interest in social issues and all the legal troubles she has seen Miguel Angel get she'd probably like to study law and specialize in human rights.

Diego Armando already has an interest in art and his problem is not that he doesn't know what to do but I think he lacks self esteem to try an study without the support of his father. Not just due to monetary reasons but out of fear of his rejection.

I'll get back later with Leonardo.

Jarocha

Jarocha- While you're putting together your thoughts on Leo, I wanted to say how good it is to "see" you! I hope all is well. Some friends are moving to Mexico City later this summer and I plan to visit them the end of this year or early next year. Would love to see you again. I'll e-mail you once I know my plans!

I think Tizoc should do something more with the martial arts or fitness stuff, too. It seems like a good fit for him. He has interest and experience in it, and he has said he is not academically inclined.

I don't agree that Perla should go back to working at Guendy's salon. Guendy deserves better help than Perla! When Perla "worked" there before, she barely did anything, and she made things worse for the clients! Remember when she destroyed AS's hair by not paying attention to the timer?

I'm not sure what she could do instead. She should at least put more effort into getting modeling work, if that is what she wants to do. Or maybe she could work as a photographer's assistant so she could actually learn something about the business. Actually, maybe she should work at Nepo's banana stand. She could spokesmodel the produce. Then she wouldn't need to do anything more complicated than count out change.

I think Frida would be good at working as a sales clerk in a nice boutique or something. She could do that part time until she finishes school and becomes a human rights lawyer or social worker.

I think Leo could also work in a clothing shop. He could be good at helping people pick out things to look good, and he could probably manage to flatter customers if he was earning commisions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hE0ag88rKvQ English Promo for Mi Corazon es Tuyo! This looks promising, let's hope it doesn't go PEAM on us and it keeps momentum like say UFCS (or Mi Pecado) did? (It's funny that Pablo Montero is in it.)

Vivi I would love to see you again in person! Let me know when you come here and maybe we can do a little trip or something here together! I'm not living in Mexico City anymore but Veracruz is not that far and I love going there to visit my friends :) .

Jarocha

Jarocha- We are so on for Veracruz! I have never been there, and all these tns set there (and you being from there) have made me want to visit. Stay tuned. I'll be in touch.

Julia:

I think Leo could also work in a clothing shop. He could be good at helping people pick out things to look good, and he could probably manage to flatter customers if he was earning commisions.

This is perfect for Leo! I agree.

I also think Frida could work very well as a store clerk in a boutique.

Well if Perla doesn't go back to Gwendy then I guess she could start by at least trying out for, I can't find the word to translate, but what we call her "edecán" and offer products in the supermarkets.

Jarocha

Yes! By the way, I don't know if you like sports but, in November Veracruz is hosting the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, which is a regional championship where Central American and Caribbean countries participate, plus Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Surinam and Guyana.

My dad hates going to a place when a big event is happening because he hates being around hordes. So I'd avoid the city during that time if you feel like him but if you like the craziness that could be a fun time to come.

Jarocha

↑For Vivi (and anyone who'd like to come, of course :D).

"Edecán" = product demonstrator. Nice idea, Jarocha. Not as cushy as a spokesmodeling job, but it could lead to that, maybe. Or infomercials!

Yes! Perla could be one of those people like in Costco who give out the samples and tell you how fabulous the product is.

I think Tizoc is the same age of Tomas the lawyer. I think there was a comment that if he had continued with school Tizoc could now have a career like Tomas.

That would be perfect for Perla. I like all the career suggestion you all have made for our young layabouts.

Thanks, Ezra for today and Jane for yesterday!
Don Chuy catching Don Salomon's kiss before it hit AS was one of those fleeting, funny moments that I treasure on this show.
MA's farewell to the family was very touching. He has learned a lot. I only hope he can sustain himself as he heads out to dangerous territory.
Lots of great suggestions for the younger generation to pursue.

Since you're all being so creative, what can we possibly think of for Ana Sophia?

AS is a good public speaker and she loves to organize events.

With some practice, she might even be able to do an event ON A BUDGET.

(She used to do fund-raisers, but I think she always ended up owing more money than she took in. Perhaps fund-raising is not her strong suit.)

Or, she could probably work at a fashion magazine. She seems to know what is and is not "in."

Or, she could dress people's dogs.

She needs to marry don Salomon and help him in his pawn shop. She has great experience with the finer things and could take his shop to the next level. I could see her schmoozing with all the clientele.

Jarifa
