De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #116 & 117, 7/3/2014

De Que la Fiesta Fué un Desastre, Fué un Desastre

Happy 4th of July!!! Since most of us will be spending Friday at BBQ parties, and not on this site, I am not going to put a whole lot of time into this recap. Here are the high level highlights:

-- Even though Nat is fed up with Carmen’s jealousy over Irene, she’s going ahead with planning for her surprise birthday party the next day, with Paolo and Lupita’s help. Luz is enlisted to keep Carmen occupied all day at the mall, while the kids decorate and lay out the food at home.

-- Irene has been listening to the audience, and points out to Tad that Nat also represents hope for a donor match for him. Tad refuses to even think about it. He doesn’t want Nat to think that’s why they are trying to get close to her. All he wants is his daughter’s affection.

-- Lupita and El have made peace and are plotting again. Lupita tells El about the party and the "keep Carmen occupied at the mall" plan. He lies to Kimberly, who is in house-cleaning mode, about running off to a mission. She thinks what she needs to do is up the sexiness factor and she talks to a friend on the phone who advises her to hire a maid, so that she can dedicate herself 100% to making herself sexy and desirable for El. She squeezes herself into a short, red clingy number, ready to greet El at the door, but it’s just Morales, with the Irene-Nat DNA results. Morales very much appreciates Kim’s efforts to look sexy, and says so out loud! She laments that El doesn’t appreciate her, but where can she find a man who does? Morales speaks up, “Right here!” Suddenly, they are lip-locked. They pull apart and swear not to tell El, since he would kill Morales. Morales makes a flustered and quick exit, and hands Kim the envelope to give to El. She opens the envelope, sees the positive DNA result, and assumes El has a love child.

-- El pretends to bump into Carmen and Luz at the mall by coincidence. He was buying a phone charger, don’t cha know. Carmen barely acts civil to him, and Luz wonders what’s up. He invites them out to eat with him. When Carmen leaves for the bathroom, El complains that Carmen is always picking on him and pointing out his faults/flaws. Then he does a dead on impersonation of her scolding him like she’s his mama. Unfortunately, Carmen is standing right behind him. Oops!

-- Irene calls Diego to invite him and Nat to dinner. He tells her about the birthday party, and apologizes for not being able to invite her, considering the way Carmen feels about her. Irene gets a mischievous gleam in her eye.

-- Rod makes a booty call to Brigitte. She resists at first, since she has to pretend to be a good girlfriend for a while, but the promise of Rod nookie is too much for her to resist. Grumps overhears Rod’s end of the phone foreplay, but his main beef with Rod is about the six used machines he bought. However, Grumps doesn’t want to stop production to have them all checked like Diego wants, because he doesn’t want confirmation of Rod’s treachery. Yeah. It only makes sense in Grumps’ twisted little mind. Rod smirks and smarms out of the room.

-- Alberto has cooked an amazing meal for Brigitte and is treating her like a queen. He somehow thinks HE’S the one who has to apologize. Nat calls to remind Brigitte about their mom’s birthday party. This is news to Al. He wants to go—family is important. He can’t believe Brat didn’t tell him, doesn’t want to go, and all of a sudden has plans to hang out with her girlfriends. He says he’ll go to the party, with or without her. Brat has to give Rod a nookie raincheck, and puts on a short red dress and a sour expression to accompany her boyfriend to her mom’s party. Rod decides to mess with everyone, and sends a bouquet of flowers to Carmen, his "mother-in-law."

-- Karina drops by Bro Central to talk about “business” with Al. Diego wonders what this mysterious business is, and if he can invest too. Ha! Alonso tells him he most certainly can NOT. Karina wants another, uhm…deposit. But Al tells her they’ll wait till next month to see if it’s needed. He sends her away. Later, he wonders how Irene is doing, and actually has the nerve to call her and Tad’s place. Tad picks up, passes the phone to Irene, and exits the room so that she can speak to her ex privately. Way to continue keeping it classy, Tad.

-- Jaiba calls Big Abdul, and he makes her sweat a bit. She continues to blow up his phone, he finally answers and makes it clear he's upset about the boy she’s keeping around. She assures him that she got rid of Abdul the Younger. He continues to keep her hanging.

-- Paolo visits the Crazy Crab to ask Abdul to be there for their mom’s b-day. Jaiba overhears, and knowing how much it will goad Carmen, proceeds to get Abdul the Younger falling-down-drunk on tequila. There are happy drunks, angry drunks, sleepy drunks, and sad drunks. Abdul is the latter. He is a sad sack drunk—he cries and sings Las Mañanitas through his copious tears.

-- The food is laid out and the decorations are set—with some adjustments to the balloons, since Lupita originally hung them at Lupita level. Nat, Lupita, Paolo, Padre, Diego, Alberto and Brat are present. Nat thanks Diego for the flowers for Carmen, and they realize just in time that Rod was the one who sent them, and rip up the card. Carmen arrives, followed by Luz and El. Nat lies and says the flowers are from Diego. Everyone (except Brat) is cheery and happy...until Irene and Tad walk through the door with a gourmet food gift basket. More on this a bit later…

--Mara and Angela are leaving their apartment, gifts in hand, on the way to Carmen’s party, when Mara’s mom comes stumbling up to the building in obvious pain and running a high fever. While Angela gets a taxi to take them to the clinic, Mara’s mom says this is all Mara’s fault. Bitch. The clinic tells them it looks like appendicitis, and sends them to a Red Cross Hospital. At the hospital, they treat the appendicitis, but they also find tumors in her intestines. It looks like cancer. Mara is devastated. She calls Paolo, who immediately leaves the party to be with her. Mara’s mom is less than gracious to him, but he decides to spend the whole night in the hospital by Mara’s and her mom’s side.

-- Back at the party, things aren’t going much better. Carmen proceeds to try to break a record for rudeness to guests. She refuses Irene and Tad’s gift basket. She refuses to try the food—even Lupita gave the caviar a try. She insults Tad’s work as an artist as not being real work. She crosses her arms, pouts, and turns away from Irene and Tad. Everyone is appalled by this behavior. Irene, however, is all graciousness—she knows exactly what she was doing. She presents Carmen with a gift—a piece of jewelry passed from her great-grandmother, to her grandmother, to her mother. Since Irene doesn't have a daughter to pass it on to, she is giving it to her friend Carmen, who she hopes will give it to Nat one day. The gloves are off now!

-- Carmen starts going off on Irene, orders her out of her house, calls Irene a drunk, and orders her to stay away from her daughters and her family! Nat defends Irene and scolds Carmen, calling her by her name—Carmen Garcia. Nat didn’t mean any offense, but tells Carmen that it's a time like this when she would prefer Irene as a mother. Ooooh!!! Carmen loses her mind even more. Everyone looks at her like she’s crazy and asks what the hell is wrong with her. She answers them by continuing to insult Irene. In between all of this, Padre and Paolo try to talk sense into her privately, but she refuses to listen. Finally, Irene has had enough and drags Carmen, kicking and screaming into the bedroom. Everyone tries to eavesdrop, but they can’t hear or understand much.

-- The party comes to a standstill while everyone wonders what’s happening in the bedroom, and why. Big Abdul shows up in the midst of all this. Both he and Luz ask Padre what’s really going on, but he refuses to say. Big Abdul hints at something going on between El and Carmen, but won’t confirm anything when Luz asks what he means. She tells him he needs to concentrate on keeping his promise to Carmen—getting Abdul the Younger back home.

-- In the bedroom, Carmen and Irene have a long, knock-down/drag-out verbal and physical fight. Carmen continues her irrational rant about Irene “stealing” Nat from her. She also continues to lie about Nat's origins-- the supposed neighbor who gave her Nat and ran off to Gringolandia. Irene tries to talk sense into her. Tells her that it's not possible for her to steal Nat's love from Carmen. But she does admit she came there that evening on purpose to force Carmen’s hand. Carmen calls Irene a drunk. Irene calls Carmen promiscuous. Slaps are exchanged. Hair is pulled. Throats are choked. Finally, in the midst of a wrestle hold on the bed (Carmen had Irene pinned), Irene starts laughing hysterically at the ridiculousness of it all, and Carmen follows suit. They have gotten it out of their systems at last. They agree to share the Natalia love, and Irene expresses her gratitude that Nat ended up with Carmen. Irene admits to being scared about telling Nat the truth and being rejected. Carmen promises to help smooth the way. They freshen their hair and makeup, and re-enter the party as BFFs, much to everyone’s shock. The party finally gets underway with music and munchies…until Rod arrives. Brat had texted him that his flowers trick didn’t work, so he’s come to makes sure his wretched presence is felt. Diego, Carmen and El run him off. The cops are called (remember that restraining order), they detain him, but he manages to escape. By the time El and Diego go back to the party, the mood has been ruined and everyone is ready to call it a night.

-- Now alone, Carmen and Nat chat about what a beyotch Carmen was to Irene, and their sudden reconciliation. Keeping her word to smooth the way, Carmen points out to Nat how alike Nat and Irene are (drawing, designs), and that they even have the same smile. Nat denies this and says she is like Carmen. They agree that sometimes adopted kids are more like their parents than bio-children.

-- Irene and Tad are happy as they drive home. Suddenly, Tad has a health crisis and Irene begs him to hang on till they get home and can get hold of his doctor.

-- The Crabettes voice their displeasure at Jaiba’s treatment of the sad, drunk Abdul. She tells them to shut it. If they don’t like it, they can beat it! She throws her niece, the one with the blue streaks, out and doesn’t even allow her to get her stuff. Poor girl almost immediately gets harassed on the street by men driving by. Jaiba then takes drunk off his a** Abdul home, and gets great pleasure in telling Carmen that she’s brought her baby back to her—he’s been crying for his mommy.

Avances: Rod has the DNA results in hand. Irene confronts Vicente with the DNA test results and accuses him of knowing all along.

Thanks for this, Vivi! It's perfect.

Ok. Carmen sort of made up for her behavior. I wonder how long before Nat gets the news.

Gracias, Vivi! This is what you do when you don't put a lot of time into it? Okkkkkkk....

I don't see what was wrong with Lupita's decorations. I wouldn't have had to duck :D

"Mara’s mom says this is all Mara’s fault. Bitch." I said the same thing. Out loud. Repeatedly. She may be sick, but that doesn't mean she's suddenly going to turn into a nice person. I know Paolo's going to stick around and be a buffer, but I hope they get some more support--they seem too young to be dealing with this on their own.

Kat- I wouldn't have had to duck either. LOL! Wasn't Paolo just a great brother/son/boyfriend tonight? From the first scene where he was hanging out with his sisters, planning the party and hugging Lupita, to taking over at the fonda so that Luz could take Carmen to the mall, to horsing around with Lupita with the balloons, then going to convince Abdul to come to the party, trying to talk sense into his crazy mama, and finally supporting his girlfriend and her horrible mother-- this kid was doing it all. I really hope the writers do NOT make him a teen father. Although, if any of our male characters could handle it, it would be Paolo.

Sara- I was so glad to see Carmen finally come to her senses. I really thought she was losing her mind for much of this episode.

*ahem* Paolo is da bomb!

I did say that a lot too..."Paolo's such a good kid!" He can handle all of it, I just wish he didn't have to. Maybe now that Carmen has made peace with Irene, she'll be freed up to be there for Paolo and Mara.

Kat- I also hope someone pays attention and jumps in to support Mara and Paolo. It's almost like when they were dealing with Mara's abusive situation all by themselves. I know Angela said she would take the morning shift at the hospital so that Mara could rest, but I feel like Mara needs a more motherly/parental support system. Angela is more like a big sister.

I agree. I think the mothering is a job for Luz or Carmen.

Oh, I thought it was cute after Lupita got off the phone with El and she said she's going to be an investigator/detective like El. It's funny because it's been hinted that Lupita has a diabolical mind, which could have turned into a criminal streak like her bio-dad. But with El as her father-figure, she'll instead turn to a life of crime-fighting, not crime. Abdul has a really good head for business like his dad (and Carmen too). Paolo is an all around good and lovable guy like Gino. Nat is artistic like Tad and Irene. I'm a bit scared to meet the Brat's papa.

Ha! I'm dying to meet Brat's dad!

What could Brat's dad be like if her main skills are seduction, keeping her skirts from riding up, and plotting...spy? politician?

Maybe the Brat's dad is a real jerk.

Carmen was really disgusting today. Her unbelievable rudeness (calling Irene a drunk and kicking them out of her house) to Irene and Tad is unforgivable, even if they made up later. Her crying rant was all about ME, ME, ME = didn't care a whit about anybody's feelings, including those of her supposedly loved Natalia. Even if Tad and Irene were REALLY trying to steal her daughter, she was way out of line.

The pool that Alberto, Eleazar and PJ were talking about was funny - who was going to come out of the room with one black eye, two black eyes, who the winner would be, etc.

Hi, Vivi,

I have to agree with 5ft that this was hardly the Cliff notes version of this episode. Very rich in detail. Thank you.

I was at first horrified by Carmen's behavior, but quickly appreciated the tn humor in the epic no holds barred fight. I thought it was funny when they had ahold of each others hair, but paused when someone was at the door (I can't remember who it was) then resumed when the person went away. And finally Carmen straddling Irene and wrenching her arm behind her, and Irene starting to laugh. Great stuff.

I also laughed during the fight when everyone was lined up in the hallway trying to listen to what was happening. Had I been directing this part, I would have had everyone huddled around the door with a water glass up against the door listening.

So, Carmen, although insecure, is, in the end, able to bond with the good woman that Irene really is, and share her love for Nat with Nat's bio mom. Finally.

Rod didn't do too well tonight.

I have T-shirts that ride lower on me than Brat's dresses do on her.

Abdul Jr. is getting a great education from la Jaiba about the dark side of male-female relationships, he just doesn't know it yet.

And, yeah, always faithful Paolo. What a guy.

Thanks so very much, Vivi, and I hope everyone has a great, safe 4th of July.

David

Really enjoyed your recap Vivi and your noting the "balloons at Lupita level". But also amused by "phone foreplay", a "nookie raincheck" and pointing out how mature and classy Tad was when Alonso called.

I hadn't noticed Irene's mischievous look so I was shocked and uncomfortable when they showed up at the party. Then I was absolutely aghast at the way Carmen reacted. Then I started laughing during the cat-fight...especially...as David noted when they paused and whispered their insults when someone was at the door. When they themselves started laughing and then crying, I started crying too. And did again, reading your recap. And did again just writing this. I am a sentimental fool but that was a powerful scene last night. Wow.

Thanks so much for this fine recap, Vivi so I could relive those memorable moments.

Thanks Vivi. It's clear you can recall more in your sleep than I can with an eon of musing.

No way Irene could have fought to a draw, Carmen was mopping her room with her, but this cat fight was a clever way to thwart all out war.

For the past few evenings Tad is winning me over, perhaps it is because he is the only level headed adult still afloat in the sea of dysfunction. I see Angela exhibiting similar qualities and hope for Paolo & Mara as they mature but a teen pregnancy could buy them tickets on the crazy train.

Mara - perhaps talk to Tad

Irene - well played

Alonso - weasel, can't you just wait till he dies

Grumps - willing fool

Moralas - you make me nervous as Jaiba in church

Hot Rod - shoo fly

Nat - hope you have some time to be daddy's little girl

Brigitte - cesspool bottom feeder

Lupita - don't miss your calling

Abdul - drowning in the sorrow of your own making

Vivi, this was excellent.

"Rod smirks and smarms out of the room" and "Brat has to give Rod a nookie raincheck, and puts on a short red dress and a sour expression to accompany her boyfriend to her mom’s party" were among my favorites.

Your astute comments and insights are always on target. I believe you said yesterday that Irene and Carmen would fight it out and then hopefully hug it out. Were you ever right! I doubted you somewhat (when will I learn??) but you were on point as always. Not a fan of the catfight, but in this instance, it seems to have worked.

I was disappointed in Carmen but in retrospect, she was a fierce lioness protecting her cub. I don't condone what she did and to the extent she did, but I understand that she felt threatened she might be supplanted in her her adored, cherished child's affections. Like you Judy, I got emotional and was just relieved all ended well.

Like all of you, I am wondering when Nat will be told. With Tad suffering another relapse, I hope it's soon.

My favorite continues to be Paolo. Someone I would love to have for a son, a friend. Kind, supportive, smart and loving.

"Alberto has cooked an amazing meal for Brigitte and is treating her like a queen. He somehow thinks HE’S the one who has to apologize". Is anyone else cringing at the fact the Brat is making a total fool of him?? It is so sad as he loves being part of Carmen's family.

Now I like Morales, but I cringed when he gave the results to Kimberly. Really?? Ack. Tofie, your "Moralas - you make me nervous as Jaiba in church" made me smile.

David, I keep waiting for Brig to bend a bit or move the wrong way. A wardrobe malfunction seems inevitable - the dress length (or lack of it) is an invitation to disaster.

Kat, I laughed at "I don't see what was wrong with Lupita's decorations. I wouldn't have had to duck :D".

Happy and safe 4th to everyone as we gather together, and remember and thank everyone who worked and sacrificed for us and our freedom.

Vivi, thanks again!

Diana

Diana,

"Like all of you, I am wondering when Nat will be told."

Yeah, that's the next big blow up, isn't it?

I hope that Carmen and Irene, and possibly Tad and Padre sit Nat down and calmly explain to Nat the extreme duress Irene was dealing with at the time of her birth, and how she lost control of Nat through no fault of her own.

But that ain't going to happen, is it?

Holy Cow. The spell checker on this thing doesn't recognize the pseudo word "ain't."

David

Thank you, Vivi in DC! Cliff Notes Version? Right. :)

I love Lupita. I love that child. Children don't interest me much, but she is precious.

I really wondered where we were headed when Carmen called Irene a "boracha" in front of everyone. Holy Cow.

I hope Tad gets his transplant and his two girls in the end. I do not want Irene with Alonso.

Grumps needs to be booted from here to Kingdom Come. He is going to get his and I hope it is a good one.

Fatima

Fatima, I don't want Alonso with Irene either!

And Rod can take Grumps where ever he is going (which I'm certain will be a very "hot" destination). Irredeemable. Period.

Diana

Hmmmmm, not much time, huh Vivi??!!
Super detailed recap.

I didn't think Lupita tasted the caviar. Tom Hanks in "Big" came to mind. The 12 year old that wants to be a man & comes back as 30 year old Tom Hanks with the mind of a 12 year old. He took a bite of caviar, sticks his tongue out, tries to wipe it off, hysterical scene.

Carmen should have saved her rage for Jaiba.

I'm sure we will have the tired cliche of Nat rejecting Irene because the whole truth is not explained to her.

Good point, Vario! La Jaiba really was trying to take Abdul from Carmen!

Happy 4th of July, amigos!!! I hope it's started off well for you all. After a sweltering week, then storms, today has turned out to be a perfect day.

Thanks for the great comments this morning, Anon, David, Judy,Tofie, Diana, and Fatima.

I also had moments of wanting to slap Carmen, then laughing, and then crying during the epic fight between Carmen and Irene. And didn't their primary color dresses (yellow and blue) look great next to each other? I wish wardrobe had put Nat in one of her purple dresses-- combined with Brat's red dress, it would have been quite a stunning rainbow of good looking women on display.

Anon and David- Thanks for bringing up some of the additional funny moments. Yes, I laughed as the guys made bets on who the winner would be, and what damage they would have done to each other. And everyone lined up behind Lupita at the door was a funny image. The two ladies taking a break from the yelling to tell El that everything was cool, while not letting go of their death grips was also hilarious. Really, despite the nastiness Carmen was spewing at Irene, it was mainly a fun episode.

Is it wrong that I hope Mara's mom dies? Can the cancer gods/demons take her instead of Tad? That woman is so nasty that I think Mara would be better off. But she would also probably feel eternally guilty and grief stricken.

David- You are so right that Abdul Jr. is getting a crash course in "bad" women. It's not like he didn't get plenty of warning, AND had a gem of a woman in front of him in the form of Angela.

Hey Variopinta!

You know, I baked a banana bread, forgot I was recapping, watched the recording late, and then just started typing away what I remembered from what I just saw. I thought it would be short. I should just admit that I am long-winded even when trying to be brief and doing things on the fly.

Already started the day with yummy Jamaican breakfast at the parents' house. The banana bread was for them. Now back home to pop some Jamaican patties in the oven, change, and run off to a bbq. Not sure if I'll be checking in again for the day, so have a great and safe holiday everyone!

Happy 4th, everyone. Stars and Stripes forever.

I was not able to watch this episode , so I especially appreciate this recap.

Happy 4th everyone!!

Vivi thanks so much for your "brief" recap and your one from last week as well. ITA w/wanting Mara's mom gone and hoping Paolo is NOT a teen father. I must again say he so reminds me of Pablo from AB; I so enjoy sweet, kind young men in tns who don't feel the need to be macho crazies.

Kat - thanks again for your recap and subbing for me. That was quite an episode and you handled it with finesse & style. Thanks for you work Monday as well as last week.

Sara - your alphabet recap was great!! And yes, Paolo is da bomb and I can't wait to see what a horrible person the Brat's sperm donor is.

Diana, amiga! You totally summed up my feelings with "And Rod can take Grumps where ever he is going (which I'm certain will be a very "hot" destination). Irredeemable. Period." And so with you on wanting Tad to live and be with Irene b/c Alonso is so unworthy.

tofie - another great list! I was initially tricked about Alonso (I think Kat mentioned this in yesterday's comments), he seemed like a nice guy. Then he kept making really bad decisions (not just bad tragically stupid). Tad, as you noted, is the only mature character in the tn.

Fatima - yes, Lupita is one of the best child characters I've seen. Her roles has been written well and the actress is so believable.

David - I know you are right about the pending Nat drama but I so want you to be wrong. That wretched Rod will give us enough drama.

Variopinta - I thought of "Big" too.

Karen, so glad you are back!

Am TOTALLy with you and Vivi in that truth be told, the loss of Mara's mother would be more than tolerable.

That said, the loss of the tender, caring Tadeo might be inconsolable.

Am still fervently hoping Irene starts to love this wonderful man and see him for who he really is, just as we do. May he banish whatever affection she still holds for Alonso. The man she thinks he is does not exist. There is only an immature boy who is and will never be worthy of her.

Diana

I'm hoping, after Nat throws a week of tantrums directed toward Irene, the two settle into a mother and adult daughter relationship with Irene the pupil. Then, hopefully, Irene will not feel the need to be adored by a boy like Alonso, accept she is a 40 something responsible woman and stop trying to relive her late teens with him. The age difference is not the primary issue but Alonso has never matured past his 17th birthday. Irene emotionally has neither.

Thanks Vivi for a great recap of what I think is one of the best episode so far. Perhaps it's because we're dealing with a problem other than Rod impersonating Diego with Nat.
Variopinta said "I'm sure we will have the tired cliche of Nat rejecting Irene ...". I sure hope the writers don't go that route. It's too predictable. Also before my electricity goes off again due to the thunderstorms, I want to thank all the recappers for all that they do to make this novela so enjoyable. 309
