Que pobres tan ricos #126, Tuesday July 1: Don Chuy has a secret, Emiliano continues his descent, Ana Sofia cooks breakfast.

As I expected, this was an awful episode.

Nepo is in an awful mood at the lawyers' office. He agrees Mike is innocent of the particular crimes he's being charged with, but he HAS wrecked Nepo's life. Saul wants Nepo to make a deposition concerning the pistol and also Mike's good character. That's just too much, Nepo grumbles and leaves saying he'll get back to him.

Vilma is pleased the case against Mike goes forward tomorrow. Alejo decides if Mike is freed he will blame everything on our poor defunct Adolfo Giron. This makes Wilma sad though she doesn't disagree.

Tomas keeps waving some papers, 'proofs,' perhaps from Don Bambi, also a picture of some reporter. Please fill me in if it's important.

Lupita has money for Nepo and for Don Solomon but is furious to find out Alejo has paid back the debt to Don Solomon.

Top Cop comes to see Alejo, demanding to see Mati. Alejo says his grandmother is not in his house, she's in the best possible place for her (other than the grave of course) and reminds the cop "I am her custodian." "I insist on seeing her!" Alejo gives an address and Wilma calls the nurse to make sure everything looks ok. Grr.

At jail Tomas and Saul assure Mike things will be ok, they ave the laptop. Mike writes a letter to Lupita and gives it to Tomas for delivery.

Lupita storms in to see Alejo (Wilma is jealous) and yells about his meddling in her affairs. He counters by laying it on about how Mike is a criminal and also is shagging Minerva. He brings Wilma in to confirm the story. Lupe doesn't believe it but her resolve is weakening, she knows Mike would do ... almost... anything to get proofs of his innocence... Minerva is listening at the door, very pleased.

AS comes down to make breakfast for her kids, "is that a crime?" she asks Carmelita, who is annoyed. AS says the poor never think about anything but money.

Chuy sneaks out mysteriously again for the second time. This time Carmelita follows him and sees him greeted at the door (somewhere) by a pretty woman. Furious, Carmelita finally rushes over, bangs on the door, and when they open it, she's there with her fists up! Chuy and the woman laugh. Turns out this is the house where Tomas lives. They invite her in and show her something (which we don't get to see) in the next room. Abashed, Carmelita agrees to keep this secret and apologizes for her behavior. Chuy liked seeing her so jealous and suggests they go on a date. They leave arm in arm.

Lupita leaves Alejo's office (after he has once again suggested that she marry HIM, not Mike). There is Minerva, pouring on the innuendo: "Want to know about our spectacular nights of passion in my house?" She says she'll be having a conjugal visit in prison soon. Lupe's exasperation mounts until she head butts Minerva, who then storms into Alejo's office and demands an instantaneous divorce.

Perla amazed to see AS cook. It smells tasty! I was a good wife and mother so I know how to cook etc etc." Perla says she won't have to cook because she is a top international model! Ana Sofia says "your 15 minutes of fame will end, then what? So help me chop already."

Saul tells Mike to rest up for the trial. Lupe comes home upset and Carmelita tells her to hang on. Tizoc gets some good news.

Tomas comes to give Lupita her letter from Mike but gives it to Emiliano instead. He hides it and runs away, then calls his dad: "Should I give it to her?" "No. I'll buy you something special for giving the letter to me."

Tomorrow: Wilma is accused of fraud.

On the bright side, Frida and Leo seem to have survived Ana Sofia's breakfast.

I hope the futbol games don't continue to go overtime, but it's not looking good. It's as if they have to play for 90 minutes just to get fatigued enough for people to start making mistakes so the other team can score a goal. That's not soccer - it's exhaustion.

it was a nasty episode start to finish, Jane.. except for MA writing the letter to Lupe... everything else was NASTY!!
i can't imagine what A-hole will write in a new 'letter' that supposedly comes from MA. nothing good can come out of that. Emiliano as an apple has not fallen far from the tree, but i have to give it to lack of information and his hopes to have his father in his life... i am sure Lupe and MA will forgive quickly but... sigh!

"What did Carmelita see? " is all I want to know. : )

Jarifa

I don't see how this all can't end in tragedy for Emiliano. Kids revere their parents, and he's had Alejo for such a short time.

Jane:

Thank you for this most marvelous recap.

The thing about Don Bambi and the reporter. Bambi was having a fling with a reporter, I think her name was Vanessa, and she fled to Spain with his money. When Bambi was in the same jail as MA, he found out that Vanessa was preggers with his bebe, so he got a transfer to a Spanish prison. Bambi had promised to write a statement for MA saying that MA had nothing to do with the money laundering, but he didn't do it before he left for Spain. Maybe this paperwork has something to do with that.

It has been three days, TN time that is, since we have seen Dona Mati. I wonder how Ahole plans to pull this off since the last we saw of Dona Mati, she was in a rough neighborhood in her jammies looking lost.

I wish Emi would catch Ahole talking about Lupe, as in listening at a door, without Ahole seeing him. I think Emi would soon change his mind about his Papa. Marta is so right about that. The boy has no idea who his Papa really is, as in a lying liar that lies, and is just going on what Ahole says. I don't like the way Ahole is using and poisoning Emi's mind.

Someone asked the other day about Tizoc and Perla and Ahole. Tizoc at least, knows how Lupe cried over Ahole when she caught Ahole with Mini, and she was preggers with Emi. I don't think that Perla knows the whole story. Still they know now Lupe isn't pleased with Ahole. I too wish that Tizoc and Perla would overhear Ahole and his schemes. I wonder what they would do then? But then again Tizoc heard Ahole giving Lupe what for and did nothing.

I am liking Top Cop and am glad he is following the money and insisting on talking to Dona Mati. Ahole didn't count on that. I wonder how Ahole can possibly think he can keep all this going without Vilma. She comes up with all the ideas, and implements them. Ahole really hasn't got a brain in his head.

I did like Carm and Don C, they are so cute, and I love her giggles.

During their argument, Lupe called Minerva "lion hair" and she countered with "Maria del Barrio.". Some funny writing here.

Thanks for covering this unpleasantness, Jane. Whatever it was that Carmelita saw at Tom's house, it will have to be damned funny to make up for all the bad stuff that's going down.

The other half of the Bambi-and-reporter (Valeria, I think; Vanessa is the chick in Tizoc's old band) story is that she ALSO had a fling with Saul a few months ago. Saul didn't know she was involved with Bambi until last night, apparently. So I wonder if the baby she's expecting could be Saul's.

Sadly, I got the impression that Chavez sent a minion to see Mati instead of visiting her himself - so the minion will meet some random woman identified as Mati, and confirm that Mati's doing great. Argh.

Thanks Jane, I'm with you about hating this part of every TN.

Vilma said that they have an impostor to play the part of Mati when they go visit her.

So the scapegoat is going to be Adolfo. Makes sense.

Jarifa, I want to know what's behind the door too. I hate when they do this. What could it be?

Marta, I never thought about Alejo rewriting a new letter to give to Lupe, but I'll bet that happens.

My Avances showed the police telling Alejo that it wasn't MA's gun that killed Adolfo.

I think Lupe called Mini 'pelos de elote' ( isn't that 'corn on the cob fuzz hair'?) as in the yellow string fuzz that is in between the shell and the corn inside the cob pod.

yes i am so afraid this period is the darkest night before the dawn, where Lupe will get a letter that is total opposite from what MA wrote... like MA telling her that he realized he really never forgot Mini and wants to retake his engagement with Mini when he gets out... etc etc... totally throwing Lupe off and into the trap A-hole is setting for her since Emi is so sold on seeing them together.

I think the surprise Chuy had for Carm (wasn't that woman, Tomas mom, the fortuneteller from Amores Verdaderos?) was Mati... but we will see. maybe CHuy found Mati wondering the streets and brought her to a safe hideout.

Also, not only A-hole paid the debt to Solomon, but he also paid the debt to Nepo, which made Lupe so mad.

I doubt the surprise was Mati - I don't think they would keep that secret from Lupita. Tomas and Chuy have been sharing this secret since at least last Tuesday, because there was an awkward scene where Tomas had to go somewhere and Carm was teasing him about and Chuy seemed to know what was going on.

I always thought "pelos de elote" just meant corn-colored hair, as opposed to "golden" hair ("Cornylocks" vs "Goldilocks"). I never even thought about the hairy stuff in the corn husk. That's MUCH funnier!

Ah, I see that if I google it, it even shows pictures of corn with the hairy stuff. Too funny. Google wasn't nearly as smart when I last searched "pelos de elote" in 2006! (I remember the year because that's what someone called Alicia in LFMB.)

Thanks, Jane.

Disappointed we didn't get to see how AS's cooking went down.

Blah blah blah with the same old same old with Ahole and Minerva...I just want to know what is the secret at Tomas's place!

His room looks like a self-contained little studio apartment. I was surprised that we met his mother there. I wonder if it is in her house, or if he rents the place from someone else and she was just visiting. Either way, I wouldn't have expected that door to lead to anything other than a bathroom or closet, since he seems to have bedroom/livingroom/study/kitchen all in one small room. And now we know that Tomas eats Super Flakes and stocks up on multiple flavors of unopened jam.

But what could be behind the door? Something astonishing, which is a secret, and Chuy has something to do with it? I would love for Mati to be living there somehow but I don't know why Chuy would be keeping it a secret from Mati's family (the good ones). Maybe Tomas has a literal skeleton in his closet. No, that wouldn't be a jolly fun secret. Um...I got nothing.

Oh, wait! Maybe it is a luchador costume! Maybe Tomas is secretly a lucha libre masked man like Don Chuy! I don't know.

Other funny thing was Tizoc trying to talk romantically and Frida cracking up.

Maybe it's a tiguana, or a liger.

More Super Flakes?

The Crown Jewels?

Adolfo, not really dead?

I'm cool with whatever it is as long as it isn't lame like the big secret basement project the HR guy was working on in PEAM. (

That was supposed to be a ":-(", not just a "(".

Yeah, that wasn't exactly the most exciting secret ever.

Maybe Tomas's barebones little studio apartment is just a front for...ummm...a shelter where rescued abused women and abandoned grannies run a multimillion-dollar company that makes lingerie or a spy business or something. Maybe Diego's mother is there.

I've been wondering for a while if the RPs would get back the stuff they hocked. If at least MA could get his grandfather's antique watches back.

Any chance Tomas bought the RPs' stuff from Sharky?

I can't think what else Chuy and Carmelita would find so amusing.

Jane, thanks for the great recap!

Jarifa

Marta, I like your idea of doña Mati being the surprise. It would make sense because if she popped up again she would still not be safe from Alejo. Don Chuy would do everything in his power to make sure she would be safe .

Jarifa

Wow! I sure am glad I decided not to watch last night. Thanks Jane, for giving us a great recap, regardless of how depressing the content.

I'm sad that it looks like they are going to create some misunderstandings between MA and Lupe, because I have really enjoyed how secure they have both been about their relationship and what they feel for each other.

Has anyone else wondered about the new bumpers before the ads, with a long-haired, polished looking, but sad Lupe looking at the camera?

Vivi, I've wondered, but I've also been hoping that it's just a tease, and isn't what it looks like.

Vivi, I have seen them and have wondered also especially now with the "malentendidos" that are bound to start with Minerva's lies and Emiliano hiding the letter from MA. Thinking about Alejo owning the Menchacas lock stock and barrel and Mati been disempowered, I don't like where this plot is heading. : (

Jarifa

It would be kind of funny if MA were cleared and the Ruizpalacios got their fortune and their home back, but Ahole managed to steal the Menchacas' home (just temporarily; obviously they would get it back eventually) so the Menchacas moved into the big mansion with the Ruizpalacios. I think that would be a fun bit of symmetry/opposition.

Or maybe to keep AS not quite so insufferable, they could get enough back to move back to their house and have some money to live on, but maybe not enough to resume their former super lavish lifestyle. They could have to scale back from that.

Sure would be creative.

Jarifa

I would love to see Carmelita and Lupita running a fonda in the mansion kitchen and dining room!

I'd love to see Ahole trying to survive daily life in la Nopalera.

Ha ha ha! Yes! It would be funny if he lost his fortune and home but still had the Menchaca house under his control so he had to live there and try to earn a living the hard way for awhile. Of course, the Menchacas would need an exorcist and crime scene cleaners and everything when they got it back, but still. Entertainment.

Or, if not that, maybe Tomas will have moved on up like the Jeffersons and Ahole could rent his little studio.

Jane, thank you again. This wasn't the most fun episode, was it?
Vivi, I agree with you - we have all been so happy to have a heroine who is so strong and sure of her guy. I hope they're not going to introduce the big doubt/misunderstanding/jealousy role for Lupe now. Ugh!
I've been noticing the - I guess someone is calling them bumpers? - the ones that show the bus with balloons and "Lupita" written on the front. That bodes well for a happy time to come, I think.
