La Gata...coming soon...DQTQTQ team, phone home!
Here's what Univision has to say in their very own English about the upcoming La Gata, the replacement for De Que Te Quiero Te Quiero...
La Gata (The Stray Cat)
Esmeralda is a young woman who lives in the marginal neighborhood of La Barranca… a place where many live in abject poverty without the protection of a family. But there is hope. Esmeralda becomes friends with a young boy, Pablo, from a good family and they fall in love… a love that has to remain hidden… a love that is torn apart by lies and deception. But it won’t be long before love triumphs over all.
Cast: Maite Perroni (Cuidado con el Ángel) and Daniel Arenas (Corazón Indomable)
7PM, September 1, 2014*If you click on the link above, you'll find a video preview, narrated in English, in Hollywood movie trailer style. I swear, they even goofed with the lighting. This article from Latin Times adds only the detail that the "neighborhood" where Esmeralda lives is actually a landfill, something that was pretty obvious from the previews Uni has shown so far with Esmeralda driving a cart through said landfill.
Subject to change*
According to Wikipedia, this is a remake of a Venezuelan TN of the same name from back in '68 and Rosa Salvaje, which aired in '87 (since Wiki is usually spoiler-y on their posts, I didn't read past the general description at the top of the page).
If videos aren't your thing, here's a picture of Maite (Esmeralda) and Daniel (Pablo):

The trailer, with English narration, was unintentionally hilarious. I was almost expecting to hear them call it "the feel-good telenovela of the year" or give a review from Ebert and Roper.
I'm looking forward to, but partly for the early slot.
CI - redux (even the same dull galan) - thanks, but no thanks!
TomBoy, they've changed things up lately so that we don't get the theme song until a good 20 minutes into the show, but I remember fondly the days when they used to start right in with the full theme and credits right after the previous show ended.
tofie, It looks like the used the same small-barrel curling iron on both ladies. Because, as everyone knows, nothing says "urchin" like brushed-out curls. Once she's reclaimed by her rich parents, she'll start straightening her hair. *sigh*
I can't join you all on this one but will watching the recaps.
Sara, oh yes, I forgot about Pierre Louis and the low number of episodes...both things very much on the "pro" list!
Karen, I didn't know what I was in for when I pressed "play" the first time and I'm really glad I wasn't drinking a hot beverage at the time!
Decie Girl, it's the 6pm slot here as well, and I'm used to seeing reeeeeally cheesy comedies at that time and turning up my nose at them. I'm actually surprised they're putting La Gata in this slot, but after tackling De Que Te Quiero Te Quiero I'm a little more optimistic.
Let's just say it's even worse than CI (and also very very similar).
Daniel Arenas was great as Willie and now that I'm rewatching Marimar on Hulu I realize that it was the CHARACTER that made him seem so terrible in CI. Sergio was pretty dense in Marimar, too.
I just can't say no to Maite. She is a favorite for me and my daughter.
The cast seems good on this one:
Laura Zapata, Erika Buenfil, Pierre Louis and Mariluz Bermudez (Marilu in MPV) and Jorge Poza.
tofie, my hair kinda looks like that now if I brush it out, but with less definition and less volume. It cracks me up that's supposed to be something of a "non-style" but I can tell it took a lot of work to accomplish.
I actually really wanted to watch this but I still have goosebumps from my last 'fav' TDA and the wonderful CI.
I wish I knew then what I know now - never stick with the Mejia family. Ever.
I still wont watch tho, I'll read the recaps because I'm sure they will be gold but that's it. It's CI right down to the bad hair! Where can I find the English trailer for this?
It will be harder for you to follow along with our recaps for Por Siempre Mi Amor and La Tempestad because here in the US the cut and combined the Mexican episodes, and so our numbering and episodes will not line up after a point if you are getting the full Mexican episodes in Kenya. Best of luck on your blog. How fun that you all get these telenovelas dubbed into English!
P.S. I saw Mauricio's post on Telenovela-World of La Tempestad episodes mexico style,,,,,If one of the recappers answers me, tell him to send me an email at barbietelenovelas@gmail.com. I need to talk to him. Thanx
I might watch it from time to time.
Decie Girl, I agree, the schedule change made me pretty nervous, but I'm hoping for the best.
lol, Doris!
Marginalized end credits - a week or two before ADP ended, late October.
Uni was great back in the day. Now they're crap.
Cassandra G.
Of course, it's always fun to have more people on board, so if anyone else is interested in recapping, whether it be on a permanent or temporary basis, let me know at any time, either via the comments or through email (you can find the address in my profile).
