TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: THE FRONT PAGE -- El Señor de los Cielos II, En Otra Piel, et cetera, week of August 4
Labels: cielos, piel, telemundo
Gerardo arrives at Casa Serrano after his declaration at the police station. Camila, looking very Sourpussish, tells him they have some unfinished business. But then she most sincerely thanks him for saving her from Ricalde. Jorge is there and reluctantly thanks Mondriana for helping to save Camila [I’m sick of this guy!]
When they are alone in the office, Elena rags on Gerardo. She basically wants to know why he killed the most repulsive guy on the planet (since he was very useful to her!).
Mondriana vividly describes to Selma how she had the awful certainty that Ricalde had Camila. Selma asks what part Elena played in this. Did she KNOW Mondriana would go after Camila and what danger Ricalde represented? Surprisingly, Mondriana gives her the benefit of the doubt. Mondriana tells Selma about Ricalde having told Camila about her being a prostitute. [He lied, of course. He told Cami Mondriana had been a willing prosti and the top woman there.]
Diego is in the slammer in LA. He can’t help but torment himself remembering when he was also in jail, in Mexico, and how violent and horrible it was.
We seem to be getting a number of telenovela-extending flashbacks. Mondriana has one of Ricalde raping her.
Gerardo tells Elena about Ricalde almost killing him. She rants about his having risked himself that way. Didn’t he think of his child [Ha!] or of her? She goes on to say that, if he’d just let Ricalde go in peace like he’d wanted, he wouldn’t have done anything. Gerardo jumps right on that. How can you be so sure? She replies that he’d have held off because G is the head of the company he owns part of. She goes on to say he really wanted Mondriana. Gerardo: “It was you, wasn’t it? You told Mondriana where Camila and Carlos would be, right?
Mondriana does another of her recordings for posterity, this time to tell Adriana that Carlos is dead and she doesn’t have to worry about him.
Elena admits to Gerardo that she sent Mondriana there. She says she didn’t know that Cami would also be there. Gerardo: “What did you think? That he’d kill her?” Elena says that, if he only knew what she really is… He doesn’t want to listen and leaves to spend the night at Ernesto’s old apartment.
Elena calls the television station anonymously and tells them that one of the girls from the San Diego brothel bust was at Carlos Ricalde’s shooting incident.
Evil cop strides into an attorney-client meeting between Diego and Tomás and announces that Diego is being sent to a federal prison. [What’s with this guy? He acts like getting Diego lots of years in jail is better than chocolate ice cream.]
Marta is visiting Ricardo and tells him about what happened to Cami. Ricardo reverts back to his feelings for Cami and is sorry he is incarcerated and wasn't able to protect her.
Vicki tells Mondriana that her bones are telling her that the end is near. She has to tell her a secret. She knows that Marta is going to resign her job pretty soon, and she can’t let the girls remain unprotected. She tells Mondriana that Elena is a murderer. She killed Julián Larrea!
When the TV news is on showing the picture of Mondriana, Maite, and Valeria outside the brothel, Elena acts all surprised. Emiliana is horrified and refuses to believe it’s Mondriana.
Mondriana tells Vicki that Julián had an accident. Vicki tells her about Elena coming into the house with blood on her clothes. When Mondriana says [Why is she denying this story with all she knows about Elena?] that maybe she tried to help him, Vicki tells her about Elena threatening her with calling the INS if she told about the bloody clothes. Vicki, sobbing now, tells Mondri that she found out that Elena was involved with Gerardo when Monica Serrano was still alive. Also, when she was being released from the hospital, Elena came to threaten her once more. She’d have loved to go live with Jorge, but she feared for the lives of the girls. Vicki says that poor Monica Serrano died not knowing how much Elena hated her or that she killed her first husband and was involved with the second. At the end of the scene, Mondriana asks Vicki if she’d be willing to tell the cops about what she knows. Vicki nods.
Jorge is in Gerardo’s office when he arrives and chews him out about putting Camila in danger by having Ricalde there. He asks what CEO in his right mind wouldn’t check out a business partner. Jorge tells him that he thinks both he and Elena knew all about Ricalde. He goes on to say that he’s there to demand that Gerardo turn over the company to Camila.
Yay! Something good happens. Evil cop, Joaquin, gets a call. He’s not happy about it. He goes out of the room with Diego and Tomás and finds Eddie the Chihuahua, looking amazingly fit for a gut-stabbed person, there. Eddie gives him a legal document from higher ups that I hope is good news for Diego. Evil cop probably exits stage left for some Pepto Bismol.
Emi gets right in Elena’s face insisting that the person on TV is not Mondri. Meanwhile, Camila remembers Ricalde telling her about Adriana being his best prostitute. Elena and her disgusting mother insist that Mondriana deceived them. Camila interjects that, don’t forget that Mondriana saved her life. Lorena (die, and die soon, Lorena!) expresses her opinion that Mondriana was the one who brought Carlos to them and is responsible for what happened. Camila retorts that Mondriana isn’t the one who went into business with the guy. Elena interjects that maybe Ricalde found out where Mondriana worked and then came into their lives. Camila snorts that this is absurd.
Elena calls Gerardo, of course, to get him to look at the news. He watches it with Mr. Judgmental, Jorge, also looking on. Jorge takes this opportunity to rant at Gerardo about his having exposed his nieces to first Carlos Ricalde and then Mondriana.
A cop arrives and we have the pleasure of Jorge leaving the room. The cop tells Gerardo that they found the same photos of Camila in the apartment of Ricalde that were sent to Ricardo Cantú. The conclusion of, hopefully, the whole LAPD is that Ricalde, not Ricardo, was the one who killed Ernesto.
Talking with his mother, Ricardo figures out that both Judge (pervert) Figueroa and Carlos Ricalde had a connection with Elena.
Mondriana comes into the living room to face the kangaroo court headed up by Dumba$$ Lorena. She sees the paused TV screen with her face on it. She admits it’s her, but Emiliana runs out without listening to her explain. Elena and her acolyte Susana smirk.
Mondriana does a splendid job defending herself. She tells Dumba$$ Lorena that she’d never have been hired if she’d told the truth. In a very dignified way she says that she felt she had the right to hide what happened. Elena chimes in that she must have been poor. Mondriana interrupts. She wasn’t poor nor was she ever a prostitute. She says she was in the hospital and was kidnapped. She was brought to the US against her will. She was beaten and raped. Elena sees she’s winning over everyone and interrupts. “But what’s important is the lie.” Mondriana: “It’s very different judging a victim than a criminal.” She looks Elena right in the eye. Elena: “What do you mean by that?” Mondriana: “Only what I said. Do I need to say more?”
Camila redeems herself in her talk with Emiliana. She convinces her that Mondriana really does love them.
Back to the living room and Camila is there as well. Mondriana goes on with her tale. She says that Carlos Ricalde kidnapped her, together with some other girls. She says they were beaten with sacks of oranges so they’d dress the way they were told and do what they were told. She tells them that she started the fire that was in the TV story, and she did it so they all could escape. She says that she’s always considered herself an honest person, but she’d never have gotten the job if she told the truth. Elena interrupts again with her lie being the most important thing point. She asks what Mondriana fears: that Carlos’ guys will find her. Mondriana: “No. I fear leaving Emiliana unprotected.” Cami interrupts: “Enough! Mondriana doesn’t deserve this after saving my life. She’s not to blame for what happened.”
Elena snarls again that what’s important is the lie. And, by the way, how did Mondriana find out all those things she knew about their family? Elena and Lorena join forces against Mondriana. Elena says she was negligent in bringing Ricalde to their doorstep. Mondriana said that she only realized he was around a couple of days ago. Elena: “But you kept quiet.” At this point Elena says she’ll leave the decision up to Camila.
Camila says: “I’m sorry.” And Mondriana begins to sob. Elena looks very satisfied.
Thanks Novelera, for the great recap of this endless and very frustrating novela! I was sure when they did the promos for tomorrow's episode, they would say ultimas semanas but no. How can we get weeks and weeks more of this - you noted one way - lots of flashbacks.
Amazing recovery for Chihuahua Eddie indeed. Right before a**hole cop came in, Diego's lawyer told him that Eddie was not doing well.
There is, of course, no motive for Carlos to have killed Ernesto. Wouldn't it be more logical for the police to conclude that Ricardo hired Carlos to do the job?
I agree - Lorena must die SOON!!!
thank so much novelera!
there are the evil people in the world and then there are the people that allow them to exist, like Lorena, Ugh.
it's interesting that Elena, instead of just taking the money, is content to stay right there, and make everyone's lives miserable, her true calling.
wow, did Vicky's revelation about Elena killing Julian ever open Monica's eyes, but why do they need to be opened, the good guys are always at a loss when going up against evil, of course if Monica says anything, Vicky will be history, but maybe Jorge would be interested in hearing her.
and here we go with Geraldo looking like the good guy, and what's with Jorge lately, he made his choice long ago when he left, sure he's frustrated, but he should at least keep a cool business head and sort things out, but he does have his lawyer helping Diego, not sure why.
Lorena being Emi's guardian sure throws a wrench in things.
Of course, Vicky does NOT recognize AC, who charms her like all get out. In fact, she's FALLING for him! She later looks at her father's picture, wondering if he'd approve. Noooo! This is all part of AC's sinister plan. And when he later calls her to make another dinner date, she wants him to meet his staff. He declines, he's shy. Yeah, right. This whole thing is maddening for us viewers, even more so, because the show is loosely based on real people, and could something like this really happen? Whoa.
The only ray of light is that Ana Sofia finds that Lilo "does not exist" in Mexican records. He's "Danilo's" right hand man, so alarm bells should be going off. But AC brags that he's going to make Leo his ally, even if she doesn't know it!
Chacorta continues to care only about his movies.
Padre Lazaro won't tell Manotas anything, except that he's scum! Manotas finds a phone number in the Padre's pocket. Padre said he was going to see the bishop. But when Manotas calls, it's answered by Garnica head of the Anti-Drug Unit! Manotas smiles, knows what he has to do. The next day, Padre Lazaro is found dead, hanged from the rafters of the church!!! All the good people are shocked and saddened.
Ernie has not been having a good day. Ruti suspects he had sex with Mati, and although Ernie denies, he knows he's treading on thin ice. Then Alba finds a condom in Mati's room, along with liquor. Ernie admits he gave her liquor, but denies anything more. Again, a close call. Then he gets the news that Padre was killed. This hits him like a ton of bricks, as he knows he's responsible, he told Chacorta to scare the Padre. But this!!
He goes to Chacorta, yells at him, and Chacorta grabs Ernie's gun, points in at his face, and says don't you EVER question me again, if you want to live. He takes out the bullets, gives back the gun. Ernie is shaken to the core. When AC finds out, he's mad at Chacorta for overreacting as usual, but Chacorta thinks it's no big thing, and wants to get back to his grand scheme for a series of movies about the Lord of the Skies.
He tells Alba that each one will star a different actor, so the public will forget what AC looks like. She's skeptical, aren't there tons of pictures of AC out there? Chacorta says we're getting rid of all of them. Once again, if this is true, it's scary.
Mati's also not doing too well, drunk and having discovered they're giving her tranquilizers. She visits Chema, and says yes, she'll turn in Chacorta, but he has to guarantee the safety of Carlitos. Chema doesn't want to guarantee ANYTHING.
Chacorta also tells Vic to break up with Isabel, because she used to be a hooker (hinting that Mati was similar, and looked how that turned out). This does not win him any points in Vic's eyes.
And Monica is pregnant!
thanks so much Hombre!
this hasn't been a fun show to watch lately.
so someone is giving Mati tranquilizers?
what will Monica think about Aurelio's new girl friend?
so at the funeral, doesn't Ernie drop the seed with Alba, that maybe the Padre was killed?
Great recap, Novelera.
I totally agree that Lorena and Jorge have become annoying and useless. Their presence only serves to complicate matters for the good guys. Although I have little faith in Jorge, I'm hoping that he'll snap out of his stupidity (perhaps after he finds out about his brother's suspicious death) and do something to help the good guys.
I must admit I was a little nervous when I saw Mondriana touch Vicky's glass last night. Vicky finally confessed about Julian which means she may be right feeling that that she's at the end. If Susana report back to Elena she will make it a reality. Just wish Vicky told Jorge because he may not believe Mondriana.
I hated the part where everyone watched Mondriana on the screen with Maite and Valeria yet refused to believe that it was her. They never mentioned the other girls.
I hope now that Gerardo knows what really happened to his brother he'll stop pretending with Elena and strike back. She has more skeletons that anyone and needs to be proven guilty of something.

"Dueños del Paraíso"
in looks like Miguel Varoni (who is directing some of "Señora Acero") may be joining the cast,
filming to start in early September.

Great recap, Novelera. Many thanks!
Like Jean, I was expecting to see an "últimas semanas" announcement and was stunned when it didn't appear. I can't believe this is going to drag on much longer. Telemundo clearly has two other shows set to go, as they keep reminding us with mini-trailers. And En Otra Piel is clearly longer in the tooth than Reina or Cielos. I'm hoping that perhaps they've simply decided not to post "últimas" notices and the damn thing will finally just end. Punto. Well, I can hope, can't I?
I was struck last night with the conflicting representations of time on this novela. On the one hand, there was the stopping of time with the news broadcast about the involvement of one of the prostitutes in the death of Carlos Ricalde. Even if somehow Elena was able to freeze the screen on the live broadcast at casa Larrea, time apparently stood still long enough for her to watch the news, then call Gerardo and tell him to look at the TV (no channel mentioned), and have him turn on the TV to the same moment in time that she saw many seconds earlier.
Hmmm....
But time doesn't always move slowly. Consider the undercover cop Eddie: one minute he's in the hospital at death's doorstep and the next minute he's alive and well at the police station. Duh.
So what are the odds that Vicki will be alive at the end of the week? Slim to none, I'd say, now that she says she's willing to make a declaration to the police.
So are the writers playing with us in having last night's episode end with Camila seeming to decide against Mondri's staying?
Juanita, I suspected that Camila saying "I'm sorry." and then Mondriana bursting into tears was a red herring cliffhanger when I saw it last night. But when I do a recap, I try to just tell what happened.
If there's no últimas semanas, then it's way too soon for Mondriana to have to leave Casa Serrano.
I just finished watching tonight's (Tuesday's) episode, and to my surprise the ending of the previous episode wasn't a red herring. Sigh.
Things will change with Vicky and Mondriana gone (so glad she and Jenny can't be blamed for Vicky's death). With Marta away the girls have no real support and are vulnerable to Elena's attacks. When Mondriana convinces Jorge of her real identity, she should tell him Everything she knows quickly and stop prolonging the inevitable. As another said, I'm hoping they'll surprise us with ultimos capitulos soon.
Spanish student
I cannot believe the padre is dead; and now they don't want to give him a proper burial because it was a suicide. Ernesto should feel like slime right about now.
Nope, not a red herring. Camila decides that Mondriana has to go. After some tears Mondri leaves, strangely without saying goodbye to Emi.
Selma tries to reason with Jorge, but he continues to annoy the crap out of me. He even thinks Mondri in cahoots with Ricalde.
Things are looking bad for Diego, but Eddie shows up, thanks Diego for saving his life. He tells him that he made a deal with the FBI. The only condition is that Diego keep his nose clean and help to trap El Pachuco and other traffickers.
Emi mourns the loss of Mondriana and, when Dumba$$ Lorena tries to tell her everyone loves her, including Elena, Emi yells that Elena loves no one.
The despicable Susana flounces into Elena’s office, says rotten things about Mondriana, and then tells Elena that she overheard Mondriana and Vicki talking about long ago when Elena came in the house with blood on her clothes!
Elena poisons Vicki’s green herbal potion.
Mondriana goes to see Jorge and tells him one thing after another than only Mónica Serrano would know. She tells him she IS Mónica Serrano. The guy just keeps calling her crazy. He finally ends up in tears, but still won’t give in. [OK, this is driving me nuts. The writers have made this HUGE thing about how Jorge obsesses over Mónica Serrano CD’s. They made a big deal about his knowing everything she’d ever played. Why in blue blazes don’t they have Mondriana sit down and play a sonata for him. Grrrrrr.]
Valeria and Maite are bemoaning Diego’s fate, saying he’ll be deported, when none other than Diego and Eddie arrive. Joy all around! Eddie and Valeria are definitely going to be an item.
Elena tells Vicki she had been putting the heart-stopping potion in her herbal drink for a while now. [This explains Vicki's conversation with Mondriana when she said she felt she wasn't long for this world.] She chortles about Vicki refusing the medicine from the drug store and getting poisoned by her own herbal drink. She plans to stay and watch her die. She gloats over it the whole time. Emi knocks on the door, but Elena tells Vicki that if she makes a sound and Emi comes in, she’ll kill the girl.
Gerardo tells Camila and Emiliana that Ricardo may be getting out soon. He tells them about the evidence found in Ricalde’s apartment.
Jorge ends up throwing Mondriana out. Jerk.
thanks so much novelera!
so sad no one called a cab for Monica, must be a mile long driveway, hard on the heels.
Jorge, relaxing with a glass of wine, (everyone at larrea drinks the hard stuff) and here comes Monica, where is her suitcase, bombs away, will we see Jorge at Luz's place, say where is Eileen.
without Carlos around, how are we going to find a boyfriend for Susana.
this show does pack an emotional punch, and Emi, wow, a touch of innocence.
Thanks, Novelera, for the great recap. I was in the throes of recapping Reina so I only saw the last 2 minutes when Vicki died. Did Elena have a tear? Allergies? too much makeup?
I thought exactly the same thing about Mondriana and Jorge - just play the stupid piano for him! Aaargh indeed.
As Linda pointed out, the idiot authorities have declared Padre Lazaro's death a suicide, so he can't be buried on holy ground. Alba and Ximena point out that this is ridiculous. Later, Santiago tells Ximena that by keeping quiet, she's perpetuating the whole cycle of drug violence. She doesn't agree, she's just trying to protect her family. They just grew up in different worlds. He agrees, says they need a time out. Whoops! This doesn't make Xime happy.
Alba tells Chacorta she knows what happened, and he should be ashamed. He self-righteous fire back that he did it all for their family, and isn't she happy with all the luxuries she's gotten. She isn't, but hardhead Chacorta can't see the problem.
Ruti tells Ernie to tell her the truth, can't he trust her? He bursts out with do you think I killed him? I loved that man! But he won't tell Ruti the truth (AC never told Xime either), because it breaks the code these drug guys have.
Leo tells Vicky that Lilo, the right hand man for Danilo, does not exist. Vicky, ever trusting, says we'll just ask them. It could be perfectly innocent.
Tijeras confesses that the one woman who really rocks his boat is.....Lai! There is that problemito that he killed her brother, but if they could get past that....
Mati tells Chema that either she'll turn Chacorta over to Chema, or to Garnica. But all she wants is her Carlitos. Chema says okay, we'll kidnap him, but w/o violence. Mati isn't so sure. Mati has to have sex with Chema, and she's now been with him, Garnica and Ernie in the last week. And probably not remembering anything with all the drinking.
Chema tells Tijeras to prepare for kidnapping Carlitos. But first, he wants to meet with Garnica! Mati tells him this is quite risky, Garnica is the anti-drug head cop, but Chema isn't afraid, wants to do business.
So Mati meets Garnica, says I'm going to help you bring down the Casillas's, but I'm also going to introduce you to Chema. The General is surprised, but intrigued. He can't imagine what kind of business he could have with a druglord.
Then Leo and crew show up at the brothel, and after shooing off Mati, Leo tells Garnica that she wants to work with him, although she hasn't seen him doing much against the drugs yet. When he says she's an outsider, she apologizes for being so direct. But she has a lead for him, the death of Padre Lazaro, in the town where Alba and other Casillas's live. Garnica, accompanied by tons of police, then visits Alba to find out what happened. As if anyone would tell him.
Inaki wants to stay in Mexico, work with AC. Lai says you don't know what you're getting into.
AC again invites Vicky to the ranch, this time her staff can come, including Leo. AC has told Chacorta that Leo will be there, but not to kill her. Yet. Chacorta watches as the woman he hates is 40 yards away. Vicky goes inside to meet privately with "Danilo", and asks him why he's helping her so much. He says, because you fascinate me! And then they kiss! OMG!!!!
thanks so much Hombre!
what's with Inaki, seems like after his girlfriend slept with Heriberto, she never came back to him, and so he goes off to Mexico to pester Lai, and finally they sleep together and it looks like she wore him out.
not quite sure what Garnica's plans are at Alba's, I noticed all the guards got rid of their guns when the swat team swarmed the place.
is Vicky the acting Governor, or are all those people just for her campaign?
interesting setup, Aurelio inviting everyone over, it would be rude for any of Vicky's people to just wander around uninvited.
Muchas gracias, Novelera. I too was wondering why Monica didn't just sit down and play the piano for Jorge. I guess the answer is obvious: that might help bring the TN to a long-overdue end. Sigh. I gotta confess, I used to think Jorge was one of the few sensible people in this novela (and it didn't hurt that I found him muy guapo), but now.... Arrgh. How pig-headed can he get? Admittedly, I'm not sure I'd buy the story that Monica was trying to tell him, but even Selma the Skeptic became a believer. Oh well....
I was happy that things seem to be working out for Diego, Eddie, and Ricardo, but normally that too would be a sign that The End is in Sight. With this novela, I'm not at all sure.
Deb, I LOVED your "without Carlos around, how are we going to find a boyfriend for Susana."
Refrito de Mondriana trying to convinve Jorge who she really is WITHOUT playing a piano. But I feel bad for him. He was madly in love with Monica, and he’s hurting. Let’s cut him some slack for now, but only for now.
Eileen defends Mondriana to Selma, because of course she would. She’s awesome. She is going to find Cami and tell her…but no, Selma shuts that down. She is not to do anything, per Selma’s orders.
Ger asks Cami who really fired Mondri, her or Elena? Cami admits that she did it. But she doesn’t know where Mondri went when Ger asks.
Elena tucks Vicki into her death bed, and puts the phone back in place.
“Mom”, says Eileen. I didn’t catch if they translated this for all the Spanish speakers in the US who don’t know what “mom” means. Really, Telemundo, I don’t think you need to caption mom, or hello, or all those other simple words that everyone probably knows. Eileen actually remembers Maite and Vale (still awesome) and is glad they can relax. The chat gets interrupted by Gerardo looking for Mon, but Selma tells him she’s not there.
Marta is going back to the mansion, but Jenny will wait until the next day to return.
Elena comes in the front door. Cami leaves to check on Emi while Ger demands to know why Elena fired Mondri. Elena gets defensive. Wasn’t me! She didn’t do it, but she gets a dig in about Adriana being a prostitute, the whole kidnapping victim thing totally forgotten. Ger tries to bring that up, but Elena doesn’t get it. She then says maybe she liked it, and compares Gerardo to a prostitute. If he could somehow like being with Monica, then probably Monica liked it with her clients. Bitch.
Mondri has ended up at Lupe’s and cries on Diego’s shoulder. Seems risky, but he does have nice shoulders. Meanwhile, Emi is crying with Cami who is being much nicer about Mondri that Elena was. They both agree that she looked at them the same way their mother did. Awww.
Diego and Mondri talk about what to do about Elena. He reminds her that he works at the house still. Mondri is greeted happily by Lupe, Vale and Maite.
Marta returns to the house and says hi to Susanna, who is snippy as ever. Marta asks about Vicki, but of course doesn’t check on her because she’s asleep and Marta doesn’t want to wake her, Susi gripes about Monica-Adriana-prostitute, and Marta tells her to shut it. She doesn’t, but she does leave. Marta recalls Mondriana’s first day when she called Marta “Tita”.
Elena and Gerardo are in the office now, and Elena is telling him that the winds are blowing their way. She brings up the wedding that they can have now and blabs on and on about Mondri, the “baby” and whatever. Ger is too busy pacing to listen.
Mon tells Selma that she told Jorge who she really is, to no effect, and then she breaks the news that Elena killed Julian. Que?? But Vicki was the only one who knew and there’s no proof to take to the cops. Neither she nor Vicki will hold any weight in front of a judge. And Ger wil never go against Elena. They are too involved with each other.
Jorge flashes back to his momentary death that Mondri mentioned. He’s on the edge of belief. Or alcoholism.
Gabe and Jennifer in bed. Smoochies. Jenn says she is getting used to being happy, thus guaranteeing that she won’t be for much longer.
Lorena enters Elena’s room as she gets ready for bed. Elena asks after Emi and Lorena tells her she’s still sad and with Cami. But Lorena can’t wait for her grandchild, and says something about leaving. But she means that she thinks Elena and Ger will wants to leave and get their own place, away from all the problems and their cousins. But it's her dream house! And not to worry, mama! The primas will stop being a problem sooner than she thinks.
Ger busts into Selma’s house demanding to talk to Mondri. He needs to talk to her, he loves her. “While you’re going to marry Elena?”, says Selma, because she’s pretty great too. She kicks him out.
Lorena flashes back to her hippie days when Elena was a little escuincla. Lorena has a cab waiting to leave the mansion and take Elena with her, but Elena is whining like crazy about wanting to stay. Present day Lorena looks sad.
Susanna enter the bedroom bitching about everything, not worried about Vicki “sleeping”. The next day she gets up and starts talking immediately, tries to get Vicki up, and realizes she has died. She screams for Elena.
Cami goes to see Ric at the jail.
Elena goes for a walk and is greeted around a corner by a voice we don’t see the body of. Pachuco?
Jorge and Selma show up at the barrio to talk to Mondri, and Jorge wants to know who won the game they talked about between him and Julian. She tells him, and that she found out from him years later. She explains some things with the memory loss she suffered. She begs Jorge for his belief.
Jen shows up at the big house in the morning and is winning over Marta. Susanna comes in screaming about Vicki. Marta and Jen cry over her in their room, and Marta tells Jennifer that there is no family to call. They were her family. Susanna wonders how long she was asleep next to a cadaver.
A couple different scenes with Cami and Ric. Nothing important.
It was Pachuco. She threatens him, but he’s not afraid. She is though, or maybe just really annoyed. Hard to tell. She says that Cami’s kidnapping was all on Carlos. But Pachuco’s not a total idiot. He knows her. Also he’s armed. Elena says that Carlos betrayed them. Pachuco doesn’t buy it right away, but Elena knows just what to say (Pachuco was just the slave of Carlos, Carlos would have him arrested to protect himself, etc). She offers him a business deal between the two of them.
Lorena has been told about Vicki, but lets them know Elena is out for a walk. Susanna says “Pobrecita”, she’ll be soooo sad when she finds out. Marta and Jenn look at her like she’s nuts.
Mondri gives Jorge the rest of the story about the Adriana, the dije, the blackouts when she was in LA but seeing Adriana’s life, and so on.
Marta calls Ger to tell him about Vicki. He can’t believe it since she was getting better.
Elena strings Pachuco along and flirts with him as they are outside the house, but she doesn’t have to go through with anything because someone drives up. Pachuco pulls out his gun.
I know no previews, but I’ll just put this here: Piano!
Kelly
Thanks Kelly. I thought the same thing about Elena when she implied Monica enjoyed being a prostitute...the very opposite of what Monica told them. Not to mention that she cut Carlos' face and burned down the brothel. Definitely wishing the worst for her.
Hope Marta or someone was paying attention when Susana said Elena was asking about Vicky everyday. Everyone knows there was serious tension between those two.
And yes, Jenny's drama is clearly on the horizon.
Spanish student
I particularly liked:
"Mondri has ended up at Lupe’s and cries on Diego’s shoulder. Seems risky, but he does have nice shoulders."
Great recap, Kelly. Loved your often snarky comments. I agree that we ought to cut Jorge some slack (esp. since I still find him muy guapo). I loved your comment " He’s on the edge of belief. Or alcoholism."
I also enjoyed your comment to Telemundo about the absurd practice of translating even the most common English words when a large part of the Spanish-speaking audience is in the U.S. And 99.9% of those who are not surely know "mom," "hi," etc.
Yes, clearly this seemingly endless novela won't end without something temporarily terrible happening to Jennifer.
Great non-discussion of the previews. :-)
AC's plan really is brilliant. He and Vicky kiss, and then she pulls back, saying don't ever do that again. He promises not to. But we see her smile privately, and sure enough, later in the episode, they're right back at it.
So how can Danilo Ferro be introduced to Leo, Ignacio, Ramos, Ana Sofía and Elena? They'll use the REAL Danilo, who's dressed identically to AC. He refuses, until they bring in longtime employee "Nana" and her little girl, and threaten to kill them. Gulp. AC "just happened" to get Vicky an exclusive interview with a TV reporter, right now. So while the reporter is interviewing Vicky, the real Danilo is ushered outside, greets Leo and crew (a little stiffly), and leaves after a minute for "business".
Vicky has been meeting one Danilo, and Leo met another! But they don't know it. Leo remarks that Danilo was nervous and offish, Vicky says I thought he was warm and open. But they don't think much of that. Leo confronts Lisander (Lilo), and says who are you really? He admits he's Lilo, former Cuban agent, and he was hired for his skills her. This is all true, of course, except that maybe he was kicked out of Cuban intelligence, so one more problem solved for the bad guys.
Alba doesn't tell Garnica anything, but then Garnica asks about Ernesto. Alba just gives his address. At this point, Ernie and Ruti are having sex in his little room! The phone is on vibrate, so when Xime calls, they don't answer. The doors bursts open, and it's Garnica! Ernie pulls a gun, but Garnica just smiles, takes it from him. Who's the little miss, he asks. Ernie says don't say, but Ruti blurts out, I'm Rutila Casillas! They're both hustled down to the police station.
Xime is worried about Ruti, when she gets the call, I'm at the station, Mom. Xime now knows Ruti was lying about it being over with Ernie. When she gets to the station, she SLAPS Ruti, you LIED to me! Earlier, Alba pointed out that Xime lied to HER years ago about it being over with Aurelio.
Ruti is released, but not Ernie, because he had a gun without a permit. Garnica coolly questions him about Padre Lázaro, later about Ernie's boss, and Ernie doesn't talk, but who knows what'll happen? And Chacorta thinks this, too, tells AC we should kill the punk, he's a weak link. AC says we can't, Rutila likes him. AC says you always want to kill, like at the ranch, you wanted to kill the Colombiana (in fact, Chacorta was just about to shoot Leo when the real Danilo came out). Chacorta says this thing with Danilo is very risky, but AC thinks it's a master stroke. By wooing Vicky and supporting her, she'll be governor, and that'll help them control all of Mexico.
Chacorta helps things along by calling Pepe, saying you need to get the Vicky interview on tonight's news. Or else. Pepe asks his co-producer if he knows someone in the news department, can he call in a favor. The other guy says no way, but then is persuaded by a mountain of coke and cash.
The interview airs, and Elsa is upset, she's losing in the polls. She calls Chema, who says, let's meet. Uuuyyy.
Chema also wants to meet with Garnica, and Mati sets it up. She's surprised when Garnica agrees to come alone. But Garnica is a tough guy. I'm guessing Chema will again try to help take down the Casillas's. Chema tells Mati she's doing a good job setting up these meetings. She's a little relieved, then start praying things will keep going okay.
Mónica is so happy at her pregnancy, she's going to go visit AC. And she'll surprise him!
Meanwhile, AC is back at Vicky's, and their kissing again. He tells her, I want this to happen (sex). You want this to happen. Sooner or later it's going to happen. (No, Vicky nooooo!!!)
I won't be able to watch tonight (preseason football game), so I'll do a double recap Saturday, but everyone, feel free to comment or recap in the meantime.
thanks Hombre,
great recap, you do this so well!
but when did they eat dinner?
Lai meeting the scissors should be fun,
and maybe Monica will bust in on Aurelio and Vicky.
The ghastly Brazilian novela, Escrito en las Estrellas is ending this Friday. On Monday, Fina Estampa, the Brasilian novela, which was remade into Marido en Alquiler, starts. Has anyone seen it? Is it worth watching? I didn't see Marido en Alquilar.
wow, thanks Kelly!
"Mom", (haha!) I think Eileen has immortalized this word.
yes, Diego does has nice shoulders, and actually has been a good sport about all of Monica's rants.
so Monica could have married Jorge, I'm not seeing any chemistry between them, more an obsession Jorge had.
Thanks Hombre. It really is a brilliant plan that AC came up with. Once again, he showed how ruthless he is by threatening Danilo's nana and nieta, and we know he won't hesitate to kill them if Danilo doesn't cooperate.
Now Santiago wants his space from Ximena. He can't handle the big league. I don't like Garnica there asking questions. I think he may keep an eye on Ruti, because she is vulnerable to make a mistake. I can't wait until Monica surprises AC and now has another rival to deal with, Victoria!
Thanks so much for the fine recap, Kelly. Loved all the snark!
One thing I forgot to say in my very brief recap of Tuesday's episode had to do with what Elena said to Vicki while waiting for her to die. I swear Elena deserves to be burned over green wood! The last thing the dying Vicki heard was Elena saying she planned to get rid of her cousins.
So I think her plan for El Pachuco has to do with this. Either to kill them or sell them somewhere. Not sure Pachuco is smart enough to have the Chinese contacts, but he'll probably think of something.
Wow, Gerardo was amazing bursting into Selma's house like that and running through the rooms. It's interesting that the prostitution thing hasn't turned him away from her. I actually kind of like that about him.
I really liked the scene with Mondriana and Diego. For once he's not wild-eyed and crazy wanting her to be Adriana and she's not trying to push him away from even the simplest conversation.
They sure are taking their sweet time about getting Ricardo released. I get a kick out of how well-groomed he looks when anyone visits him in jail. Freshly shaved, every hair in place. It even looks like his orange jumpsuit has been ironed!
Piano!
Jorge still can't believe Mondriana is Mónica Serrano. Her last shot is to take him to her favorite piano store and play for him. He believes. Mondriana and Selma explain all that has happened in the previous 117 episodes, fortunately without flashbacks. This included: why Mondriana had sex with Gerardo; her previous unsuccessful attempts to record a confession from Elena; Gerardo's role in her murder; Jorge's murder; and her belief that Elena murdered Vicky. Mondriana wants Jorge to take her daughters to Australia but Jorge thinks that there is not guarantee that they would be safe there.
Start spreading the news...
In tried and true telenovela fashion, the news of Vicky's death spreads out. Marta tells Gerardo, Susana tells Emi and Diego in a cold and unfeeling way, Lorena tells Jorge who tells Mondriana and Selma, Emi tells Camila and everybody says the same thing, “I thought she was getting better...” One person who has not been told is Ricardo. At Vicky's velorio, Marta is upset at the prospect of having to tell Ricardo that Vicky has died. They always had a special relationship. Rodrigo offers to go with her to tell Ricardo.
Marta rejects Gerardo's offer to pay for and arrange Vicky's funeral and the “good” part of the cast (except Susana) have a velorio for Vicky at Doña Lupe's where there is an affectionate reunion of Mondriana with Emi and Cami. Vicky and her cooking is remembered fondly by all. Mondriana sneaks out much to Diego's annoyance. Eileen asks Cami how they can be friends when they are rivals for Ricardo's affections.
Elena meets with Pachuco. He wants to kill Gerardo but Elena tells him to go after the $1 million that Elena gave Carlos to leave Gerardo alone. If he can't get that money, she will pay more in the future. Pachuco [whose crazy red and black shirt is very distracting] agrees for now but threatens that if anything goes wrong, he is coming after her and Gerardo.
Emi tells Diego about how much Mondriana spoke and acted like her mother. She felt that Mondriana loves her like her mother, not the way other people in her life, like Marta, love her. Diego is thoughtful. Diego won't tell Gerardo where Mondriana is. Gerardo tells him that he hasn't fired Diego because of his relationship with Emi. What a coincidence, replies Diego, I came back because Mondriana asked me to take care of Emi.
Elena does a stellar performance of grief over Vicky's death for Lorena's benefit. Marta witnesses some this and is not moved. Later Emi calls Elena a hypocrite over her supposed grief over Vicky's death.
The police find a gun with blood on it and the briefcase with the $1million in Carlos' place. They are going to test the blood on the gun to see if it is Ernesto's and check the briefcase for fingerprints. When the bad cop tells Eddy this back at headquarters, Eddy reminds him that Carlos' associate confessed to Ernesto's murder. Bad cop admits that if the tests implicate Carlos, Ricardo will have to be released. [I thought that already in progress.]
Jennifer tells Gabriel that she can't leave the Serrano house right now because now that Vicky is gone, she can't leave Marta to do all the work. She promises to leave soon.
Elena and Gerardo have their usual argument. He says that she treated the servants so badly, she shouldn't be surprised if they are not convinced by her show of grief at Vicky's death. Elena demands that he support her since she is carrying her child. Gerardo is fed up with this endless refrain [as are we all]. He tells her to avoid problems especially with Emi. When he leaves, Elena checks out her stash of vials of death [in her bedside table?] and thinks about doing harm to that brat Emi.
While all the staff is at the velorio, Gerardo pours himself a drink, plays the theme song from the novela on his ipod and flashes back to seeing Mondrina emerging naked from the pool and making love with her. This happy reverie is interrupted by Elena and her endless predictions of a happy family when the baby is born. She wants to set a wedding date. Gerardo says that he is tired. What is the rush? All of a sudden they hear Mónica playing the piano.
Thanks, Jean. I'm hoping that Diego doesn't destroy Mondriana's plan and instead, like Jorge, realizes who she really is after seeing her play. Now if only Mondriana can record evidence without getting caught...
I don't think anyone, even Lorena, believed Elena's grief. Vanessa Villela plays the same type of character she did in my very first novela - Una Maid in Manhattan - a manipulative, condescending, elitist who takes pleasure in discreding and incriminating servants although its later revealed that she herself was an insecure child from very humble beginnings. if the extent to which she annoys me is any indiciation, she plays this type of character very well. This new threat to Emi should be the onset of her painful demise.
Jorge now knows everything, but I wish he would do something or use his resources to help Mondriana. I know he means well but he's definitely not a strong ally or thinker right now.
spanish student.
Thanks, Jean, for a concise and, as always, well-written recap. Good on ya for doing also a day of Reina de Corazones.
Yes...PIANO!!
One small correction. In the first paragraph you mention Jorge's murder, when you meant Julián's, understandable in that they were identical twins.
An expression somewhat out of favor would describe Marta's reaction to Elena's over-the-top grief performance: "Gag me with a spoon!"
I'm pretty sure Elena is not going to be successful in finishing off Emiliana. But, since they refuse to give us any últimas anything, I hope they don't go with her getting slowly sicker and sicker.
One thing that I don't remember having been made crystal clear before was spelled out last night. Mónica Serrano was ill toward the end of her life. There was mention of a doctor prescribing something for her heart. So Mondriana explained that she'd been poisoned by Elena in the same slow and gradual way that Vicki was.[Of course, this is telenovela medicine at its worst. Surely a doctor would not have discovered this "substance" in a blood test.]
Anyway, I really enjoy the episodes when Maria Elisa gets to express happiness, twice last night. When Jorge at last believes her and when she re-unites with her daughters. She has a fabulous smile!
Regarding the plot seemingly being extended, I wonder if it could have to do with the upcoming Los Miserables. I sort of remember that the novela before La Patrona had something tacked on because the filming with Aracely Arámbula either started late or was not far enough along to begin broadcasting it.
Thanks, Jean, for the concise and informative recap. Novelera has already called attention to the Jorge/Julian confusion in the first paragraph. As the grandmother of twins that I'm always confusing, I enjoyed the momentary slipup.
I also enjoyed "Gerardo is fed up with this endless refrain [as are we all]." Amen to that!!
thanks so much Jean!
we must be in a new 'etapa',
Adriana's hair style has changed again.
and of course all of the evidence that Elena poisoned Vicky was thrown out,
her lipstick mark when she kissed her goodbye,
her finger prints on her phone,
the green stuff with poison,
and Vicky's body was cremated.
ah yes, Monica has a plan,
this worries me too, Diego.
You're so right. When Elena kissed Vicki on the forehead, rather ironically, with that gooey pink lipstick she always wears, I was all: Whoa, won't somebody see that? Nope.
Sure enough, AC charms Vicky and they end up doing it! He wants her to stay the night, but she at least has the sense not to do THAT. She gets dressed, but is still sitting next to him on the bed when Monica bursts in! She says, who's this, your latest conquest? AC looks cornered, but Monica then introduces herself as Fernanda, Danilo's SISTER. After Vicky leaves, having allowed Lilo to take her home, Monica tearfully tells AC that she wanted to surprise him, she's pregnant again! A minute earlier, when Monica asked if he slept with Vicky, he said I do what I have to do. Now, the master manipulator says Darling, that's wonderful news. And I swear NOTHING happened with Vicky! Even Monica doesn't believe that one. But AC is so smooth.
Garnica gets a call from Leo, saying did you like my tip. Garnica says not much, nobody's talking about the Padre, although I did catch the deceased AC's daughter with the Padre's nephew. Leo says AC is ALIVE, ask about that. Garnica ask, Ernie denies. Garnica says you can go. I should charge you with corruption of a minor, but I won't. And don't let me catch you with a gun again.
Chacorta and Alba have another argument, Alba then tells him Rutila was caught with Ernie, who was interrogated. Chacorta confronts Ernie, who says they asked me if you killed the Padre and I said no. They asked me if the Lord of the Skies was alive, and I said no. Chacorta likes his guts, and even gives him another gun. But he asks Manotas to keep an eye on him. Garnica had also asked his cops to keep an eye on Ernie. So he still could cause problems. Especially since he says to himself, "Thanks for the gun (Chacorta). I might just use it on YOU!
Elsa visits Chema who pretty much forces her to have sex with him. Not because he'll help her campaign, but because he wants it, and he gets what he wants.
Tijeras gets all spruced up to meet with Lai. Her guards take away his gun and his scissors(!), and Lai comes behind him, holds a blade to his neck. He calmly says I've got lots of men outside waiting for me, if you kill me, you're dead. She relents. She hates him, saying why should I do business with you? Money. Lots of it. Chema wants to be her partner, Mati is too out of control. Lai seems to be wavering. Maybe she'll agree.
Things are heating up again!
Escribío Jean:
"The ghastly Brazilian novela, Escrito en las Estrellas is ending this Friday. On Monday, Fina Estampa, the Brasilian novela, which was remade into Marido en Alquiler, starts. Has anyone seen it? Is it worth watching? I didn't see Marido en Alquilar."
The gran final of "Escrito" is Monday. I stopped watching "Escrito" about a month ago. Awful novela and I can't believe I watched a lot of that drivel.
As for "Fina Estampa," I did watch (and recap) "Marido", which started out pretty good but went downhill. I read that the FS storyline was remade intact except for the ending. The plot is this:
"Single mother of three works as handyman to support her family. She meets a renowned chef and falls in love with him. Chef has crazy wife."
Tons of subplots and characters so typical of Brazilian novelas.
I didn't totally understand the agreement between Lai and Tijeras, but here's what I think. She agreed to work with him. She called AC, and wanted to meet with him. But she'll send Tijeras in her place, and when the two collide, maybe one will take out the other! I could be wrong, here. It does appear that after the meeting, both Tijeras and Lai are intent on killing the other one the next time they meet. So no love connection there.
Both Max and Lucila are upset that Elsa is getting it on with Chema (although they don't know for sure, they just suspect it). Lucila might be MORE jealous, as she has a crush on her boss. She tells Elsa that maybe Max wants you to LOSE the election, and he'll be the big lawyer, you'll be his trophy girlfriend. Hmmm. BTW, have we forgotten all about Ximena's trial?
Chacorta is all gung ho about the new Lord of the Skies movie. Alba enjoys it when soap star Irma comes to the house and describes her acting method. Chacorta pretends to be really happy with Ernie, but secretly tells his guys we may have to take that kid out. Victor overhears this. Vic also has problems. When Isabel says your family doesn't like me because of my background, Vic proposes. But Isabel says no, it won't work, my background, I'm older. In the heat of the discussion, Vic insults her, calling her a "golfa", and she's outathere.
Santiago offers Rutila a new life, she can study abroad. But she gets all mad, says he's just doing this to get her away from Ernie. And no matter what they all try, she (and they) can't escape all this death, because it's DESTINY.
AC is not happy that Monica messed up his perfect plan by choosing to introduce herself as his sister. He tells Lilo to try to make some cover story out of it. Monica sadly realizes that she can't hang around the house if AC is wooing Vicky, so she'll have to make herself scarce. But after Vicky gets elected, Moni will kill her! AC isn't too keen on this part. He again emphasizes that all final decisions are made by HIM.
Garnica is led to Chema's place with a hood over his head. He easily recognizes that Chema is still in that same town. But what does he want? I think Chema wants his men to be infiltrated in Garnica's guard, and Garnica will protect Chema from the Casillas clan. In return, Chema has a plan to deliver Chacorta to Garnica. Chema also still thinks AC might be alive, although Garnica is skeptical of this.
Ignacio and Ramos tell Leo that Garnica is a corrupt cop, she shouldn't even work with him. Ignacio also has Ana Sofia and Elena working on statistics that show a correlation between corrupt cops and druglords. I didn't totally understand this, but they're going to keep it secret from Leo for now.
Mati is drunk as ever, suspects Lai of hiding stuff from her (which is true), just hopes her Carlitos can be with her.
Leo tells Vicky not to hide anything from her. Too late, Vicky's already hiding the fact that she slept with "Danilo"!
But Vicky did mention that she was introduced to Danilo's "sister, Fernanda" to Leo. Maybe Leo will investigate whether he even has a sister. But I won't hold my breath on that one. Wouldn't it be nice if Vicky happened to see a picture of Monica Robles somewhere? We can only hope.
MANY thanks, Hombre, for the jueves and viernes recaps. As crazy as Cielos 2 seems to be, compared to Reina de Corazones, it's sane and logical!
Thanks Sue455. I think I will give FS a try if for no other reason than I enjoy watching a novela when I come home for lunch. That was why I stuck with Escrito but I fast-forwarded through all the subplots that I didn't care about, which was about all of them. Another reason is that my Spanish teacher is going to watch it too so we can chat about it.
Gracias Hombre for 2 days of recaps, you never let us down.
Mati is getting on everyone's nerves, including mine.
My least favorite character right now is Garnica. He is a sleazy corrupt slime ball. Can't decide who I want to take him out.
¿Dónde está Cabo?
wow, thanks so much Hombre,
you are so good at doing these recaps!
did I get this right, Chacorta can't read,
as he was having Manotas read the movie script to him.
on Thursday's show, were we all impressed that Tijeras uses tequila for cologne, and that looked like his scissors that Lai was holding on his throat.
and what was the deal with Ernie slashing that guys tires?
does anyone know what the gun laws are in Mexico, as Garnica made it sound like if he caught Ernie with a gun again he would lock him up forever.
wow, Monica driving Elena mad,
while wandering around the house in those heels,
just waiting to get caught.
whew, thanks Diego!, who then asks,
do you still think you are Monica?
Deb, Garnica told his men to keep an eye on Ernie, in the hopes he'll lead them to his bosses. Ernie figured this out. He slashed the tires of a cop who was going to tail him. He then was able to go to Chacorta's place, eluding pursuit.
I like how Elsa is freaking out because she is behind in the elections already and Chema can't just buy the election.
Monica is going to have trouble staying away from AC and interfering in his plan.
Thanks again Hombre.
This was a very good episode, mostly loaded with significant conversations that I don’t have the energy to write verbatim.
Gerardo is “flashbacking” [I’ve decided it is a verb and why not?] about Mondriana and the times they made love when Elena plants a kiss on him. Just then Mondriana has teleported from the barrio wake to the mansion and is playing something that sounds passionate and angry from the secret room piano. Elena loses it. She runs through the house shrieking.
Back to the longest wake I’ve ever seen. Eileen and Cami have a very cute scene. Cami tells her the path is open for Eileen because she and Ricardo broke up. Eileen asks her if she did canoodle with Ernesto. Cami denies this. Then Eileen asks her what she’s waiting for to go back to Ricardo. Then she does her vampire hissing a few times.
Mondriana has a hidden camera somewhere and is watching Elena and Gerardo. She’s trying once more to get a recording of Elena admitting murder. There’s a note on the table and Gerardo picks it up and, because this is a telenovela, begins reading it out loud to Elena.
As he reads, we realize it’s word for word what Elena said to Mónica Serrano as she gloated over her while she was dying. It starts out with Gerardo reading and then segues into Elena’s voice and the scene after she injected Mónica that we’ve seen a bunch of times. Impactada doesn’t begin to cover the expression on Elena’s face as she listens.
At the very long wake Maite challenges Anselmo to quit the gang. Eddie shows up to see Valeria and is prepared to leave when he sees all the people. Valeria convinces him to stay. These two are very sweet together. Anselmo sees him, thinks he’s really a Perro, and charges toward him. Maite says he’s her cousin.
What Gerardo gathered from the note is that Elena was Julián’s lover. [the part about her saying she wasn’t going to let Mónica steal a man from her twice]. She tries the disbelief he’d say such a thing, the crying, and finally admits it. She says he seduced her because Mónica traveled so much. But he wouldn’t marry her; he only wanted sex. Gerardo knows this sick puppy pretty well. He remarks that, since she always hated her aunt, what better revenge than screwing her husband. He goes on to draw the conclusion that she killed him. Mondriana gets frustrated because she never really confesses. Elena finally confesses that she killed Julián for preferring Mónica Serrano. [I think we're meant to believe the recording was off at this point.] Mondriana, shocked, makes a noise.
When Mondriana tries to get to the secret room the mechanism doesn’t work right. Just when she’s about to be caught there, Diego opens the door from the other side and whisks her in.
Gerardo tells Elena he’s had enough of the haunted house. He tells her he’s had it and is leaving this place. She refuses to leave saying she won’t let MS win. She asks if he’s going to leave her, like Julián. He gives her a look and asks if this is a threat. Is she planning to kill him like she did Julián?
In the secret room Mondri tells Diego she began scaring Elena for revenge, but then she began trying to get a confession. She opens her laptop and she and Diego watch some more of the Gerardo and Elena Show. They are having the same fight about her insisting on staying at Casa Serrano. She acknowledges that Gerardo no longer loves her, but she says they’re united by the child she’s expecting.
At the velorio Jorge tries to convince Camila that she and Emi come to live with him. Cami says she has a very sentimental attachment to her house. He goes on to suggest coming to stay there a while himself, which Cami is happy about. Snoopy Susana overhears this. I hope Jorge makes it to the end of the novela.
Before leaving Eddie tells Valeria that normally it’s not good form for cops to get involved with crime victims, but sometimes…[giving her a very warm look] it’s worth it.
Joaquin, the Jean Valjean of Los Angeles, gets the news that the blood on the gun found in Carlos Ricalde’s apartment was Ernesto’s, and also that the ballistics proved that that gun shot him. He looks sour, but I think Ricky’s getting out soon.
At the Malquerida El Chalado is chewing One-Way for not having collected protection money from some baker. He then starts in on Anselmo, saying that Rodrigo’s bookstore is doing well and the truce arranged by Martín and Diego is off the table. Maite chimes in that Anselmo has something to tell him. [Maite really needs to read up on gang culture. You just don’t quit like it’s a crappy job at Walmart.] When Anselmo just gives her a dirty look, she says she’s going to say it for him. She says he’s leaving the gang.
Mondriana returns to the wake with Diego. Emi thinks this means they’re an item. Just then Gerardo arrives. Everyone gives him significant and not friendly looks.
thanks so much novelera!
Elena going wacko makes me want to run and hide.
hmm, I think Elena and Geraldo moved off to other rooms out of camera range when she finally confessed, interesting that Geraldo keeps pumping her for the truth, making like that's the only way he will be able to protect her.
hmm, I think Carlos killed Ernesto by cracking him on top of the head with the butt of the gun, that's why there was blood on it and I was thinking they matched the gun to his wound.
Anselmo better start laughing like it's a joke.
and our good/bad guy Geraldo, after all he did kill Carlos and saved Monica and Camila from certain doom.
Many thanks, novelera, for another great recap. I wasn't sure what to make of Mondri's recording success. I thought that Elena's confession should have been captured on the recording, but Mondri certainly didn't act as if it had been. Perhaps deb is right in thinking that Elena and Gerardo were in a room that wasn't in range of the recording.
So who killed Ernesto? Pachuco boasted to Eddie that he killed him, didn't he? So then why would the gun be in Carlos' place? Will this mean that Pachuco can claim Carlos did it, thus getting away with murder?
Oops, I meant to say that I had the same thought about Maite as I watched the scene in the Malquerida. In some ways, she's supposed to be so savvy, but what she said to El Chalado is a good way to get Anselmo killed.
Thanks so much for the bonus recap, Novelera. If Mondriana still didn't get Elena confessing on tape, we haven't moved forward much.
I don't believe that we saw Ernesto being murdered. He was tied up and being beaten up by Pachuco and then Ric found him dead in a pool of blood. I thought he had been shot but I guess not.
Thanks, Novelera. I also wondered if Jorge will make it to the end. Susana will tell Elena and Elena's only move is to get rid of those with the knowledge or power to discredit her.
Also liked the comment that Anselmo cant "quit like its a crappy job at Walmart". We're made to believe that Maite is quick and street smart but her mouth has caused so many problems for others. I also hope Anselmo makes light of her comment and just laughs.
I was so certain that Diego was a believer like Jorge but i think he'll also have to hear Mondriana play.
Now that Ricardo may be cleared, it would be nice if Carlos' briefcase is traced back to Elena. But that may happen later on.

Perhaps the reason Maite can't see how much danger she's putting Anselmo in is that she's from Mexico City and doesn't know the "codes" of US street gangs.
You may be right about Maite, novelera, but from what I've read about gangs in Mexico, they're just as brutal and unforgiving as those in the US.
Yes, thanks for the clarification Novelera. I was thinking that Ernesto died from a blow to the head (from Carlos ?). Pachucho claimed the credit (when speaking with Eddie) but i think he was just a willing accomplice.
Regarding Maite, Anselmo warned her that it wouldn't be easy to leave the gang so she knew but ignored his wishes to handle it his own way. For the most part he comes across as somewhat weak while Maite calls the shots. The writers seem to enjoy creating trouble from Maite's loose lips.
