La Gata #17 Tuesday 9/23/14 La Lentitud

Watching this episode felt like a ride with a teenager who hasn't mastered the use of the accelerator: inconsistent pacing. Hubs is chomping at the bits to watch some TV, so this is going to be short, maybe not so sweet and scattered. Please fill in as needed.

La Pulmonía
After Pablo's day out without his coat, he's contracted pneumonia. He's put in the hospital. Lorenza is called. She rushes to his side. He mumbles incoherently about Esmeralda. Lorenza gnashes her teeth.

La Revelación
Rita tells La Gata about her mom and gives her the letters her father wrote. In them he professes his love and begs Blanca (was that her name?) not to visit him. Although knowing that his wife and child are alive gives him hope, he doesn't want his child to know where he is. When Gata asks Rita about this, Rita tells her that her mom made her swear on her deathbed to never tell her. (Yikes, what an awkward bit of writing on my part.)

La Zorra
Kat called it. Ines is the bait for Doodle (Garabato) and his gang. She flags down a luxury auto, they jump out and take his wallet. Then they threaten the poor guy by saying if he tries to report the crime, they'll go to his house and tell his wife what he was doing. They split the money. Ines is impressed with her take. She's ready for another job.

La Mudanza
Meche has finally given in and agreed to move to El Silencioso's house. First he had to promise her that he wouldn't get Damian tangled up in any illegal or immoral or dishonest shenanigans. He promises that the venganza is his alone and Damian will remain an honest man.

La Busqueda
Lic Osorio is still on the trail of El Silencioso's long-lost daughter. People saw a man leaving the house with a baby. The man gave the baby to Doña Rita. Later, Doña Rita was seen with a baby.

La Mónica
Lorenza called Móncia and she took the first flight to New York. Lorenza is so happy she's there. She hopes that with Mónica's help, the Negretes can be the family they once were.

La Conversación
In the biggest waste of time ever, Meche and Damian arrange furniture and talk about Esmeralda. He really wants to help her. I may have zoned out a bit. I seem to recall Meche's advice was for Esme to find a husband. Really, Meche? Damian is not cool with that idea...especially since El Italiano is about the only option. Damian insists they can't abandon her.

La Hambre
The babies have spent most of the episode crying. According to Jarocha they are hungry. Rita starts in with "marry El Italiano" and thank heaven Esmeralda is stubborn. It may be self-defeating at times, but I think she is smart to be stubborn in this.

La Confesión
Pablo is dead to me. He decides to give Mónica a real chance. They kiss (hear that? that's the sound of me retching.) Since they are trying to make a go of it, Pablo decides to confess to Mónica that he's technically a married man. He married Esme in secret before he left. He was so sure of their love. (I seriously want to clobber this guy.) He asks Mónica not to say anything though.

La Carpeta
The best part! El Silencioso brings home a folder and tells Damian it contains the name of the bastard that done him wrong. He wants Damian to find him. Lines, more lines and BAM! Finally!! El Silencioso busts out with Augustín Martínez Negrete. Damian is cara de hey that's the same bastard that sent me to jail. Either God or the Devil has brought the two of them together. Damian wants in on Operation Venganza, but El Silenicioso reminds him that he promised Meche that Damian would keep his nose clean.

La Resignación
Mariano has also come to New York. He's concerned about Pablo jumping into a relationship with Mónica. Especially since he doesn't love her. Mariano says his mom is trapping him and wants to know if Pablo is completely sure he wants to be with Mónica. Pablo says he doesn't understand his brother. Sometimes he's so cynical and other times he seems to be the conscience of the family. Mariano cryptically tells him he's done things his ashamed of (flashback to Augustin praising him for finding the marriage record.) Pablo says he has to move on. Esme betrayed him. He wants Esme to suffer. YES HE REALLY SAID THAT. He's going to marry Mónica and he wants Esme to know. He wants her to know that her betrayal meant nothing to him. Mariano is cara de my poor brother is just a pawn in the game of life.

La Mendiga
La Gata juggles and begs.

Avances
Rita knows a family that will pay a lot of money for a baby.
La Gata leaves Leticia with Fela.
Pablito is sick and La Gata takes him to the hospital.
Rita bangs on Fela's door.

I am way to invested in this show. I am just SICK about the previews. I'm FURIOUS with Pablo and his "I want her to suffer" line.

I'm thinking a little more sensitive than shins need to be kicked.

Make that "something a little more sensitive than shins".

Dude...I...just...yeah. With the whining and the...damnit she's carrying around two babies and selling newspapers you dumbass!

Anyway, now that I've yelled at Pablo...Gracias, Sara. I don't think you missed anything.

How did she not recognize that her mother Blanca is Fela? She does NOT look so different from the picture!

And Rita is a worthless waste of space...whine, whine, whine, me, me, me!

And I'm glad Pablo told Mariano that he just doesn't get him, but Mariano's explanation still doesn't make me understand him any better. Is he going to say something before Pablo starts trying to enact his vengeance on an innocent Esme?

Thank you so much Sara, I think that you hit all of the high points.

How many days of school has Pablo missed. Will he still graduate?
Trips to Mexico and now he's sick.
Just wondering.

Tofie---I missed your HOT list yesterday. Have you given up on those great literary expressions?

I feel sorry for Ines. She never was a shining light in a dark room
but she was going to school to better herself but now???

Rita says marry El Italiano and the babies won't be hungry. OH PLEASE!!!

Rita knows someone who pay a lot for one of Gata's babies. Can Rita just die of something PLEASE!

So Meche and Damian are movin' on up exchanging their garbage dump suite for a somewhat larger suite in the classy upper part of town.

Sara--- your best line of the recap was---Either God or the devil has brought the two together.

I knew it!!! Sweetheart Monica takes the first flight to New York to be by Pablo's side in his time of need. And to make it even worse, Pablo will marry her. That will teach Esmeralda a good lesson

I knew this was coming because I have seen too many novelas and they often run in this general vein. Lovers fall in love, they sometimes marry but are separated and are miserable until the last couple of days when they once again find happiness together and ride off happy, happy into the sunset.

The only good thing that I could say about Lorenza last night was
the outfit that she wore to the hospital was stunning.

last thought---Monica you're pretty, you don't need a thick coat of make-up. Tone it down and let your natural beauty show thru.
the gringo

gringo--I agree! Monica is very pretty. Did she tone down the blonde, too? I had the impression her hair was different and I kinda liked it. And if she'd go after Mariano instead, I'd like her even more. Hell, I'd buy them a toaster.

Sara that was a seriously excellent recap. Thank you!

I am removing myself from the Pablo fan table once and for all. What a jerk! He is a great galna...if you happen to like wimpy wet noodle types. You will now find me permanently hangin' out at the Principe table, he has more class (and loyalty).

I even like Mariano now that he has started to display some decent human qualities.

J in Oregon

Oops. Sorry, Pablo is not a galna, we all know that. I meant galan. :o)
J in O

Lol, J! He's not a galna and he's not a galan either...it works both ways!

How in the world you made sense of the bits and pieces from edits on the cutting room floor I'll never know. Thanks Sara.

tofie - "gnashes her teeth"

Naw, big g, I haven't given up on La Gata nor my quips, just can't walk and chew bubblegum at the same time like the recapper girls that can, even with busy schedules. I've been traveling extensively, with more to go, and watching, reading, posting on my phone, wherever & whenever.

Pablo - your children are hungry & you weep revenge, damn you to hell

Monica - ok, to start, can you paint puppies, giraffes or clowns, sumpin other than that cat

Mariano - see that broken white line down the middle of the road, I pay it no mind

Rita - meatballs, meatballs, meatballs, meatballs, meatballs,....

Ines - Tee, Aae, get your T & A here!

Lorenza - lets go shopping since we're here

Mercedes - bet we can get 40 people in here for a cocktail party, easy

Esmeralda - hungry, how? Fela told me her baby don't eat a thing

Kat--I wondered the same thing when Gata saw the picture. How could she not at least see a resemblance between Fela and her mom?

gringo-I wish I could take credit for that line, but it was a quote from El Silencioso.

J- yes, Pablo is a complete jerk. Principe has been far more loyal (which is saying something if you know anything about cats.)

tofie-so glad we still have your lists!

Since tofie mentioned it: Are they editing? Man. I can't seem to watch a show that doesn't get edited.

El Silencioso does have a table, right? Cause he is my favorite right now. I can't get enough of him.

We might as well make Pablo's table one of those collapsible card tables. We can set it up as needed, but I suspect it will mainly collect dust behind the bar.

Ugh. This show is so frustrating, but I can't stop watching because every night seems to bring some movement of the plot (even if it is a bowel movement.)

Sara, Thanks for this recap. It was great even if you were fighting for TV time with your hubby. (I know how this feels. My wife thinks I'm nuts for watching these things.)

Gringo, I agree with you about Ines. However she was poisoned by Rita throughout her life to take the easy way out, so I think she was mentally crippled from the get-go.

Yeah, looks like Pablo will marry Monica. When she realizes that the marriage is not based on love, I think she will get defensive and jealous, probably act out, but in the end she will yield gracefully to the inevitable.

I don't understand if Mariano realizes that what he has participated in is unconscionable, and likely to be punishable at some point in the future, why he didn't just come clean with Pablo.

David

I think Pablo Pan marrying Monica (feel bad for her) is his typical selfishness and doing something to make him happy, or in this instance, to erase a bad memory and a safe haven for a spoiled boy to enact loves revenge for a perceived slight by an inferior. He is after all his mothers son.

Sara, I'm getting the impression there are edits, but I can't tell if they're cutting scenes or just not doing a good job of transitioning from one to the other so that it seems like there must be something missing.

David, if Monica yields gracefully to the inevitable...well, that would be different. I'm expecting at least three choruses of "If I can't have him no one can" followed by some action that requires consultation with a doctor, lawyer, and/or psychiatrist.

"Lorenza - lets go shopping since we're here"...tofie, I'd totally forgotten! How bizarre is that?! She goes from weeping and moaning that her precious baby is dying...DYING...and all for that good-for-nothing Gata, not for anything she and Augie have done, nooooo...hey! Sale at Bloomies! What a piece of work.

Dare I hope that Mariano will realize that Pablo is now trying to do what he's been doing--whatever it takes to keep Mami and Papi happy--and will advise him that there's no use trying, lest he end up miserable? He said last night he loves his family...does he love them as individual people and want them each to be happy in their own way, or does he love them collectively as a great big ball of dysfunction that he wants kept together at all costs?

I think Mariano is a pragmatist and the family brand, not the individual, worthy of protection. This to benefit his aspirations.

Hi, 5ft.

I am in complete agreement with you that sparks will fly (not the fun kind) in Pablo and Monica's marriage. That's what I meant by defensive, jealous, and probably act out.

But when the unavoidable break comes, I think it will not be filled with rancor. I think she loves Pablo, but when she sees that when he looks at her his eyes are dead, she will realize that there was never any real prospect there, and that she had in fact been manipulated by Pablo's parents just as he has been, and she will bow out with little resistance.

Of course, how many times have I been wrong ;)

David

But what are his aspirations? Was he being honest with Augie when he said he wanted to be the most awesomest lawyer ever just like his daddy and be rich and have a big house? Is that really it for him? Doesn't he want anything more? He helped with the annulment, but he feels bad about it. Bad guys don't usually do that. I find him fascinating. More than Pablo, sadly. He has depth. Secrets. More than two brain cells.

Well, David...there's always a first time! With the exception of clearly having a thing for him and making too free with the smoochies, she's being about as reasonable as Damian, which is a hopeful sign. She just seems to be working a lot harder at it, which makes me think she'll crack. I hope when it all goes down she does realize she was being manipulated by her dear aunt and she doesn't put all the blame on Pablo.

Goodness, this is rather sad, that once again, I'm more curious about and interested in the secondary characters than the leads!

Thanks for your short and sweet post Sara. I can't believe we are still in the 'fluff' episodes where nothing really happens yet.

OH.MY.GOSH. Pablo is a bumbling idiot. I can't believe he wants Esme to suffer. When he found out about the pregnancy, he could have at least asked for a paternity test to ensure the baby isn't his (which of course, it is his). Damian is more of the galan. He is a go-getter and actually helps Esme. Oh lord, give me patience because Pablo is getting on my dang nerves.

Last thing, Pablo's friend, Henry, is really funny. I don't think Spanish is his native tongue.

So I haven't been watching but do read the recaps now and then. I guess to see if it is going better than CI. Must say, isn't Daniel Arenas tired of playing clueless galans yet? His character is just as blind as Octavio was. Whole script is going same way as CI but instead of woods she is in a trash heap.

Pragmatist can have feelings but don't let those get in the way, so I get he can feel bad for the deception and accept the consequences but compelled to pull the trigger. I think Mariano is the most interesting character and the least clownish and he defines success with the trappings and if a brand can be leveraged to achieve those trappings expeditiously all the better. Now, the big question for me is, what will he do if or when he hits big time? Does he become mama & papa and crush inferiors underfoot or do I find out his comments to Lorenza about the poor just sarcastic baiting when he becomes a philanthropist.

It's beginning to look like Daniel Arenas & whomever hires him have fallen into the trap of him just showing up being enough for the lead protagonist to swoon. Kinda lazy. Happens in hollywood too

Diva---I didn't notice if Monica
toned down the blonde but I did notice that her make-up was on very thick last night. Maybe it's these HD TV's that show us every little thing and flaws that never would have been seen in times past. Sometimes I think that the real today is often too real. And
if HD isn't good enough, 4K is here which is supposed to be even better than the best HD's.

Tofie---I'm glad the list is back,
it's a riot as usual.

Agreed, Mariano is a pragmatist. Or---it's possible that he is weak
and just hasn't been able to make up his mind as to which direction to go yet. That would be understandable as both brothers have had most every decision made for them by their parents. So yes, they both would appear to be wishy washy.

Yes David I think you are right. Rita is and has been a bad influence on just about everybody. I'm surprised that Principe hasn't scratched her.

When Monica realizes that their marriage was a manipulation by Pablo's parents the sparks will fly---yes I agree but at some point will those sparks reach Esmeralda? Monica the refined rich girl will loose. I don't think she really knows the toughness and tenacity of hard life La Gata. When the screen shows the toughness and determination in Gata's eyes, I cringe. Watch out Monica, you have been warned.

Would I be hauled out and placed in with the bad people if I openly stated my desire to see Lorenza's fancy Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdales wardrobe exchanged for some used garbage dump fashion's?
the gringo

Tofie: I agree. Daniel is totally great to look at, and I like him as an actor, which makes me mad that he is getting better scripts.

Maybe Mariano will turn out to be the real galan. In the credits he is shown with tears in his eyes. Maybe he'll fall in love with Esme and, knowing that her true happiness is with his dull, wimpy, crybaby brother, he will sacrifice his love and help Esme and Pablum end up together with their babies, one happy family, while Mariano suffers in silence. Speculation, of course, but I already like Mariano better than the crybaby and would really want him to become the hero in the situation. Of course, with those parents ... oh, well, one can dream.

Anon 12:30--Pablum! Love it.

How 'bout Palbum Pan everyone???

Totally agree that Mariano is the more interesting character.

Carvivlie--Even if you aren't watching, please join us for cocktails, conversation and T-shirt design.

tofie-I think you are right about Mariano being a pragmatist and just wanting to protect the brand.

Oh, and WHY THE HELL HAVE THE WRITERS FORGOTTEN VIRGINIA?!

Well, I hope when Virginia comes back she puts her fine Italian leather boot right up Pablo's arse. She ain't gonna be pleased.

Yes, we want Virginia and Centavito's friendship back on track!
We want to find out the secret behind Mariano's tortured soul!
We want to know how Damian can be such a good close friend to Esme and not be in love with her *but maybe he is. (Is he back in law school?) Why didn't Damian and his mom offer to let Esme and the babies stay in their now-empty shack?

Looking forward to tonight...the FUR WILL FLY!

J in Oregon

Also folks,

Thanks, Sara.

At first, when young, idealistic puppy love Pablo turned into adult Daniel A. Pablo , he at least seemed better than Oblivio from CI. Now, however, as Pablum Pan sinks deeper and deeper into a vat of self pity , I fear that he has become Pabloblivio. Watching him assume the fetal position on the hardwood floors of his pricey New York apartment makes me want to give him a good kick in the pants. SNAP out of it. Boo freakin' hoo.

Not recognizing people seems to be common in novelas, in"Duelo dePasiones, ,the galan did not recognize his love because they were In a different locale and she was wearing a different blouse.
QTH?

OT...Is anyone watching "TheVoice ?" The new judges are great and the contestants are amazing.

Sara - Great title. Liked the way you set things up with pithy headings. I can't get enough of El Silencioso and I'm most def at his table.

Pablo is such a wus that I'm even starting to feel sorry for Monica.

I...I have to admit that I meant to stay away from this one but I can't! Its like crack and I know our relationship will end badly but I can't quit it. I hate the foreshadowing that's going on here, I'm scared that our dear Kitty will end up marrying the Meatball.

And to everyone, work plus my issues with my sister have kept me from posting but I thank you all for your good thoughts!

Hi, Eli, I am so glad that you are joining us on this wild, frustrating ride. Sometimes , the novelas offer a great escape from one's personal telenovela, I am sending out good vibrations to you )))))))))).

Hey Eli! Great to see you here! I think we are going to need to stick together on this one. We will need to support each other for the crap storm and frustration I'm sure is coming.

And oh not please don't marry the Meatball, Esme!

Thanks Sara for a recap well done. It captured all the main points.

Can't believe I haven't given up on the handsome wimpy Pablo. I am disappointed that he's planning on hooking up with Monica. I suspect that they'll even marry since marrying the wrong person initially has been the trend of almost all the novelas I've watched. Of course they'll never consummate the marriage for one reason or the other in order to "stay pure" for their true love.

Things are moving fast, can't wait for tonight's twist.

I love how fast things seem to happen too (last night wasn't the best, but we did have El Silencioso and Damain comparing notes.)

I look forward to it every night.

Thank you ladies, happy to be here!

Susanlynn, I watched The Voice last night, loved Gwen and Pharell!

Eli...YES...The addition of those two is going to make this a fun and exciting season. They fit in perfectly with Blake and Adam's style of humor right from the get go...magic. Pharrell is quick thinking, kind, and clever. I love him, and he will make a great mentor. I am betting on him to win this season even though Blake is my boy. It is going to be a great season. I liked Shakira last season, but I am not an Usher fan.

Susanlynn, I'm right with you, I'm a Gwen fan because I grew up with No Doubt and Pharrell won me over last night, do you have a Twitter by any chance?

Eli....I am technologically impaired. I am not a Twitterer, and I am not even on Facebook. However, my Ipad has become my best friend. I cannot wait for next Monday to see The Voice. What a fantastic combination of judges. I love Pharrell's music , and now I love him. What a sweet guy.

OMcheesus, you might be the only person in America that's not on Twitter, or Facebook!
