La Malquerida, capitulo 20. 09/19/14.
Labels: malquerida
"I wonder if they can remove the permanent pissy face that she always wears" had me laughing in agreement. Your many other wry observations and comments including "Dumbass Acacia runs into the burning building trying to push out the pallets of cotton" were great.
How sad that Manuel was caught in the midst of his father's nefarious arson. He is selfish, lazy among other undesirable traits, but he did not deserve this. I hope they are able to save his arm. I have no doubt Acacia feels guilty and indebted to him, and wonder if she will turn most of her attention toward him. We know that a rift with Ulises is coming sooner and later, and this might be the first catayst.
Of course, Luisa will be right in there and I fear Art does not stand a chance in - well, you know where :) at the moment.
Juliana, who's been busy primping and planning her surprise reunion with Andres is going to be devastated. I wonder (no spoiler, just speculating) if Andres might be involved in Manuel's treatment? That would certainly be something that would bring both together.
Glad to see Cris and Este are enjoying some newlywed bliss. Their peaceful retreat will be shortlived.
"If he ever gets married again, he will ask him to do the wedding. Arturo looks away sad”. I thought that an was extremely insensitive remark to say to anyone, let alone Carmen's son. So, he hasn't thought of remarrying? That was awkward indeed Gloria.
Looking forward to seeing each successive episode but not nearly as much as I enjoy reading these comments.
Gloria, thank you, thank you.
Diana
I'm so glad that Acacia and Uli didn't get hurt in the fire. What a bit of poetic justice that Norbie ends up wounding his favorite child while trying to hurt his neighbors financially. I'm glad that his sons caught on to what that was really about.
Does Juliana really think that if she gets a new hair style and clothes, Andres will just fall into her arms. Maybe it will be that easy, but I think after all these years, he might want an explanation first.
I have 10 pm conflicts so I can't watch consistently. I've familiarized myself with all the characters, backstories, what they look like, etc. This novela was made for G.G. Cantu (I'm watching his stellar performance in Fuego although the storyline is soooo boring.) He's such a great villain.
My only comment is that you two keep me reading and watching when I can.
Diana, Goddess of Wisdom. Still dispensing wise words. How I wish you were watching Reina de Corazones with us Reinamaniacs. Your wisdom is sorely needed.
Vivi--How DO you do it. I guess to be young, beautiful, and have unlimited energy, anything is possible--demanding job, busy social life and HOW many novelas are you keeping up with?????
P.S. After 15 years of being together, Esteban's incessant attention to meeting Cris' every expressed desire, anticipating every unexpressed desire, and hovering would drive me crazy.
It's like asking where are you going every time you get up from the couch to go to the bathroom.
Lordy, how I wish Brandon P. would find another nice-guy role. I fell in love with him, as we all did on Refugio, but CI and now this one? Well, he's not so much a bad guy as a guy with bad habits, a bad father, and a self-absorbed mother.
Cheers and good-luck. I'll stop by every once in awhile.
Just dropping by to say that I am still not watching this TN but wanted to thank those of you who recommended La Fuerza del Destino which just finished its afternoon reruns yesterday.
I had happened upon it about 3 weeks ago and wondered if it would be worthwhile to watch. I especially enjoyed the older actors who did a fabulous job with their roles...realized later that it ended shortly before Don Pedro Amendáriz Jr. died as a result of eye cancer. I thought the dialogue was excellent and of course helpful to me as a continuing student of the Spanish language.
I couldn't figure out how Carolina fit into the picture. I believe that she was befriended by Lucia's father and they were living together raising Alex, but I don't know how all that began.
I know she was blind and had a cornea transplant etc, etc. but I don't know her origins.
Glad you're all enjoying this one.
It was funny -- the other night at eleven, my son and his wife called me to ask about it. They don't watch TN's, but somehow or other while surfing channels, they came across it and were curious. It was the wedding scene. My daughter-in-law was wondering if something was going on between Acacia and her stepdad; she had picked up the clues.
Have fun with the TN and all of your TN friends. It is quite impressive that many of you have been communicating this way for many years. Has anyone ever given thought to a TN viewers' reunion?
or is it better being online friends only?
All the best.....
You are always so kind and generous. Among your many talents, you never fail to make everyone in your orbit feel appreciated.
"P.S. After 15 years of being together, Esteban's incessant attention to meeting Cris' every expressed desire, anticipating every unexpressed desire, and hovering would drive me crazy". I hadn't thought about that but yes, how right you are. Este has not learned moderation in adoration. :)
I think you completely captured Manuel's essence: "Well, he's not so much a bad guy as a guy with bad habits, a bad father, and a self-absorbed mother". Indeed.
Please come by as often as you can...
Diana
I've not had the pleasure of meeting anyone in person on Caray but hope to one day. I know some of the recappers and commenters who live nearby or who travel have gotten together. I believe Vivi can speak more to this.
Diana
In LFdD, Carolina was Lucia's father Gerardo's sister in law. After he divorced Lucrezia he remarried, but his wife died within a 10 year gap from the early episodes to the episodes after Ivan returned to Alamos with Tony. So his wife was never shown in any episodes. Since Carolina was blind I guess she didn't have anyone else to care for her besides her sister. Then of course after her sister's death Gerardo was still there for her.
Concerning LaM, honestly I'm already bored with the Acacia/Esteban/Cristina storyline. If say, German and Alejandra's storyline was the main one of this TN, I'd be more interested. So basically I'm just watching for their storyline.

Thanks for the outstanding recap. I have been watching this one, but not commenting everyday. I have no excuse other than I have been EXTREMELY busy, but aren't we all.
Anyhoo, I have yet to watch this capitulo, but am looking forward to it. I agree that Manuel isn't a horrible person, but very confused and misguided.
Thanks for the warning about the scenes with Cris and Este. Sometimes I find their love scenes a bit blah. Not that I think Este should be all over Acacia, but I just don't feel any chemistry between Cris and Este.
On the other hand, I am loving the storyline between Ale and German, aka big sexy. I too look forward to their scenes.
Hasta pronto!
Thanks to Mads and Gloria for the recaps. I referred to them often because I can't seem to understand Sabine M or Danilo to save my life.
Thank you for mentioning Memo's eyes. They are mesmerizing.
Acacia was a dumbass, but I also want to call out Luisa on her dumbassery. That girl gets on my nerves.
Manuel is the poor, little rich boy who never had to take any responsibility for anything, unlike Big Sexy who has always had to work on the ranch. Always seek out those types of guys . They know how to work hard and be responsible for more than finding a good restaurant for a date,
It appears that Este is back to marital bliss as long as Acacia is out of his sight. Meanwhile, back at the ranch....things are going to he** in the proverbial hand basket.
OT Is anyone watching "Outlander" on Starz ? It is sort of a Scottish telenovela. Lots of hombres in kilts. Have you read the books ? It is really heating up , and I am wondering how closely they are sticking to the book.
I wonder if they can remove the permanent pissy face that she [Juliana] always wears.
dumbass Acacia
Anybody think Rubio was in on burning the cotton? He flashed a very knowing looking at Norberto.
Loved Esteban in white T and Bermuda shorts. Maybe I'm also affected by how focused he was on his wife instead of his stepdaughter.
Glad Manuel told Luisa he doesn't even remember them getting frisky and that it shouldn't have happened. But I can see him leaning on Luisa emotionally if his arm is shot.
Perla and Memo sure have mesmerizing eyes. Perla looked so happy to be preferred over the young prostis even though she turned him down. My take is Perla's been kicked around so long that any male approval thrills her. She's a bad guy now, but I can picture her being enslaved and indoctrinated at a young age.
I can almost see Perla as redeemable.
I can totally see Perla at some point deciding that she's had enough of being treated like crap by Danilo and deciding to help the younger girls or turning on Danilo to the police. But I think it will take a LOT for her to get to that point. Like she pointed out to Ale, her life on the streets was WAY worse than her life with Danilo. She sees Danilo as her savior.
Susanlynn- I'm watching Outlander and loving it. I never heard of or read the books until the series came out, but I think I will after the series wraps up. I haven't seen this past week's much anticipated episode yet.
From what I've read, they are deviated from the source material a bit in order to get to certain events faster, but basically keeping all the major plot points the same. They've also written a couple of new scenes here and there to get to points in the story more quickly.
Thanks for this very fab recap. I so look forward to them.
So agree with you about Acacia and Luisa being dumbasses. Oh, I had a fit when those two guys opened the doors. More oxygen more fire. There should have been another way for them to put it out. The firefighters must have come from San Jacinto.
Another dumbass was Norbie, he didn't think they would investigate how the fire started? Idiot! Oh, and he needs more land why? He can't even work those Finca lands to turn a profit. He ought to
give the Finca lands over to German. I bet they'd be profitable in no time.
One thing Gloria can you label your recap? It isn't showing up on the sidebar, thanx,
Anita:
It is so good to see you here. Yes, Gloria and I have been keeping this going with an assist from our Vivi. We are so grateful to her. Yes, Anita I echo everything Diana said about you. Please do drop by more often.
AuntyAnn:
I have missed you muchly. I am glad you commented. If you get a chance please do drop in. I like your take on these characters.
Sara:
Por fin you are caught up. I love your take on these chacters. It's interesting what you said about Perls. I don't know about her yet. She still condfuzzles me. I too think Rubio is being lurky. I dont' know yet if he had a hand in the fire, but I think he knows Norbie did. I wonder what he will do too. Norbie has no money. Hmmmm....
Niece:
Memo may be pretty, but what an ugly personality.
So really I'm hoping she is redeemable. I feel bad for her.
Romy
I also found a youtube video of a stage production that was televised in Spain in what had to be the 70s or early 80s. I haven't watched the whole thing though.
Thank you so much for explaining who Carolina was in LFDD. I had no clue how she fit into the story.
Appreciative of your time......
Your Acacia dumbass had me laughing. But in fairness to her,
she was in panic mode and when in panic mode often you don't think clearly. She had a lot of responsibility riding on her young shoulders taking care of El Rancho Grande while Cris and Este
were away and now the rancho's
profits are going up in smoke. Save the cotton--save the cotton,
I've got to save the cotton. We all know that she can't move the heavy bails but in panic mode???
I was laughing at pissy face also
Will the new do change pissy face?
I think that only Dr. Andres can bring about that change but the new hairdo will sure go along way,
I loved Julie's new look.
Is it inevitable that Acacia ends up with Manuel? No he's not a bad guy just a lazy, spoiled rich kid.
I think that Ulises is a sooo much better catch.
Will Perla turn on Dan Evil? That's one to ponder but right now I'm leaning on the yes side. Ok so Danilo took her off of the streets but he treats her like dirt and has for a long time---when is enough, enough? Yes eventually she will say no more, I've had it, no more abuse, I'm finished with this. The key word
is eventually.
Can't wait for Monday.
the gringo
Thank you for the kind words. I have missed you guys too. I hope to comment more often because I really enjoy reading everyones take on these characters. So far I hate Norberto & Danilo. I am loving German and Ulises' brother (can't remember his name). I have to admit that I have a soft spot for Manuel, he's handsome and I don't see him doing anything evil. Only time will tell.
Gringo, it's in Perla's best interests to keep Ale's secret as she no doubt feels threated by Danilo's sick, twisted obsession with Ale.
Although when he discovers Ale (I am not certain he will but think we all suspect it's evitable), I think Perla may "betray" him if she is once again relegated to second tier.
Even though I feel sorry, I fear it is too late for Perla., that she is too deeply entrenched in the sordid world in which she exists. I hope I am wrong.
I also think you are right in that Acacia may end up with Manuel. At least temporarily due to the guilt she is feeling.
Diana
I like Manuel. He's immature and seflish, but he's not evil...yet. He's on the fence I think.
Diana-I hope against hope that Perla still has a chance, but you are right about how deeply entrenched she is in that sordid world.
Yes. Ulises brother is Arturo. We have nicknamed him Art. He is a very sweet guy. I too wish that Luisa would open her eyes and see him in front of her. They both have such a passion for being chefs.
As far as Manuel goes. He bothers me. There was the beatdown that never happened by Ulises and Manuel lied about it, almost sending Ulises to jail. Manuel shoved Ulises out of the way to catch the garter and injured Ulises, his gambling, cock fighting, I too would say Manuel is on the fence. Hopefully he stops listening to Norbie and listens more to German, big sexy.
Madelaine, I think Manuel's injury will make him or break him. He does have some redeeming qualities but they are not visible under his all too palpable anger and resentment at this point. Norberto is pushing him and his weak character does not enable him to stand up to his father.
What will he do with the information that his father is an arsonist and is responsible for maiming him. I do feel for the situation he is in.
Diana
For those that have been waiting for it, Quiero Amarte, starring Cristina de la Fuente and Karyme Lozano, just started today on Univision at 3pm.
Thanks if you can help.
