La Gata #28- Wed 10/8 - La Reaparición

Mariano sees that Lorenza is wearing a groove in the marble floor and asks her to confide in him.  She tells him that she's worried because a man his dad had thrown in jail is out now and wants revenge.  Mariano doesn't see what the big deal is because his dad is perfect, right?  He tells her to calm down and stop crying.  Once he leaves, Lorenza says she knows there's suffering on the way.

Pablo is up in his room staring blankly out the window.  He's now seen Esme two days in a row, according to Mariano.  He claims to be "embrujado" (bewitched).  His love is stronger than he is, and even though he has no idea what her intentions are, he can't stop seeing her.

Esme, on the other hand, is telling Silencioso that she doesn't want to see Pablo anymore.  It's too hard for her to pretend to be lighthearted when she'd rather be screaming at him.  Silencioso tells her that if she loves him, she's going to have to fight for her love.  Because if she doesn't, he'll marry Monica and be lost to her forever.

Ines and Garabato prepare for their first "job" alone.  Ines seems to have lost her taste for it, but goes along anyway.  Once a nice looking car comes by, she gets in and drives off to a secluded spot with the guy while Garabato follows, holds the guy up, and Ines runs off, looking like she's completely innocent.  This gets Ines all excited again and she and Garabato drive off into the night, looking for more marks.

Augie is drinking directly from the bottle again, feeling sorry for himself, and pulls his gun out of a drawer.  Note to Lorenza: if you don't want to face justice alone, hide the booze and hide the gun!  Virginia comes into the study after having a dream that she was calling for her dad and he wasn't there, and somehow she knew she would never see him again.  Even though they all act like she doesn't exist and barely treat her like part of the family, she knows something is up and she loves her family.  She thinks as long as they all stick together, everything will be ok.  Augie thankfully puts the gun down before she can feel it.

Esme wakes from a dream about Pablo wanting to be with her and the babies.  She wakes up to little Leti crying and comforts her as she says that Pablo doesn't want any of them.  Oh, that's comforting.

Silencioso was waiting to have breakfast with Esme, but he hears from Meche that she and Damian left early to look for Fela.  Silencioso now gets the whole story about how Fela just showed up one day and Esme started taking care of her.  And now Fela has gone missing.

For no apparent reason, Damian suggests that Esme take a break from searching for Fela and go pray in a nearby church.  Time stops when she turns back to him and Damian cautiously turns down an offer to go into the church with her.  Inside the church, Esme has a long chat with La Virgen praying for, among other things, help finding Fela and for the Virgen to watch over the babies and send them good life partners, "not like Pablo," and for Pablo to love her again one day.  Outside the church, Esme finds Fela.  Because the Virgen is THAT good.  And possibly because for once someone asked for something realistic.

I'm displeased to have to tell you that Damian and Esme take Fela back to Dumpsville.  I really wish they would have taken her to the house.

Rita keeps guilt-tripping Maria into taking care of her, but since Maria is too nice for her own good (like Gata before her), it doesn't take much.  Some vieja chismosa (gossipy old hag) shows up with the news that Fela is back.  As a side note, Maria has learned how to read and knows the meaning of the word "preambulo" (preamble).  As Maria runs out to verify the news, Rita wonders how the hell she's going to manage to stay relevant to the plot.

Fela gets a nice bubbly bath and chats with Esme about how the bubbles remind her of snow and how sometimes she wishes Esme were her daughter.  After she's clean and has her new dress on, Esme brushes Fela's hair.  Fela doesn't remember why she left now.  Maria feels responsible, but Esme says she never should have asked Maria to take on such a grown-up job as taking care of Fela, since Maria's just a kid.  Rita shows up and asks to take care of Fela.  Because she's been doing a good job of pretending to be nice lately and Fela has forgotten that she was running away from Rita, Esme agrees.  She warns Rita that she'd better not hear that Rita is saying anything mean to Fela.  Damian looks doubtful.

Rita continues to play on Maria's sympathies and to pretend to be a decent person.  Even going so far as to make breakfast for Maria and Fela.  She thought bubbles that she'll take Blanca to Fernando and get herself accepted into the household as Blanca's caretaker.

Esme and Pablo have suggestive spaghetti, winsome wine, longing looks…and a month passes.  Now they're having dessert, but Esme won't kiss him.  At least not while he's engaged.  And if he won't break off his engagement, this is their last coffee date.  She also refuses to move out of Silencioso's house.  Pablo accuses her of playing with him like a mouse and refuses to break off the engagement…until Esme gets up to leave.  And then he admits he's still in love with Esme and is going to break off the engagement.  He's being rude and it's making Esme get all misty.  She asks him to stop talking to her that way and refuses to kiss him again.

Silencioso takes a cranky phone call from Augie.  Basically, Augie wants Silencioso to either, uh, sue or get off the pot.  He feels like he's being played with and Silencioso admits to enjoying having Augie in his hands.  He tells Augie that that's where he'll stay until Silencioso is ready to have Augie thrown in jail.  Augie drinks some more and says there's nothing he can do until Silencioso makes a move.  He berates himself for not being able to end his own life and picks up the gun again.

Meanwhile, out in the living room, Rita has been scoping out the goods and has decided that a squat, fat candlestick is the best thing to filch.  Silencioso is surprised to see her since Damian takes her cash every month and he knows that Esme has been giving her money as well.  (Where the hell is that money going?!)  She's so excited to tell him her "news" that the candlestick falls right out the bottom of her apron.  Silencioso takes her to task for stealing from him and Rita says when he's done being angry he should go to her house and find out what her news is.

Ines comes home (after how long?) and throws Maria and Fela out of "her" room.  Rita pretends to care about Fela, Maria defends Rita from Ines, and everyone but Ines decides that Fela and Maria should go back to Fela's jacal (shack) at night and just hang out with Rita during the day.  Yeah, 'cause Rita's way less scary in broad daylight.

Pablo has just decided to write the story of him and Esme…well, as he knows it anyway.  Mariano shows up fussing at Pablo for standing him up when they were supposed to have lunch together.  Mariano says this is all just a trick and Pablo needs to wise up.  But Pablo really doesn't care.  He wants to go out with Esme to nice places, he just can't help himself.  Mariano keeps insisting that Esme is screwing with him.  "Why are you so interested in keeping us apart?  Are you in love with her too?"  Mariano doesn't answer.

Esme is frustrated with Pablo's behavior and she feels like what she's doing to him is terrible, but Silencioso keeps telling her she has to do it.  "But I luuuuuuurve him!  And I don't want to hurt him!  Because it hurts me toooooo!"  Silencioso just hugs her.

Mariano says that's an "incoherencia" (nonsense) and it's just that he feels sorry for Pablo.  Pablo says he's going to break it off with Monica, even though Mariano thinks that's part of Esme's "revenge."  Lorenza hears Pablo saying he's going to break it off and comes into his room to threaten him.  She refuses to "allow" him to break up with Monica.  Pablo says he's not going to marry a woman he doesn't love and she needs to stop making him do things he doesn't want to.  Even Virginia gets in on the action, saying they need to treat each other like family and that Pablo's marriage is doomed to failure if he doesn't love Monica.  Lorenza threatens to throw him out if he doesn't marry Monica, but Pablo doesn't care.  She accuses Pablo of having no pride and Esme of having "arrastrado el fango" (dragged [him] through the mud).  Pablo won't let Lorenza insult Esme, which upsets her, and admits he's been seeing her and will continue to do so.  "If you keep this up, I won't be responsible for what I do!" declares Lorenza.  "Why do you hate her so much?" Pablo asks, and Lorenza's "response" is to whack him across the face with her fan.  "If your father finds out about this, he'll die and his death will be on your conscience!"

Later, in the living room alone, Lorenza thought bubbles that she shouldn't have smacked Pablo and that Esme is getting everything she wanted.  She says that Pablo is like someone who's sick and needs her understanding.  She can't leave him in "that woman's" hands.

Virginia cries to Mariano that the family is falling apart and nobody's doing anything.  "We can't do anything.  Pablo has decided to love Esme and Mom has decided to end their love."  Virginia is upset that Lorenza doesn't recognize that they have a right to love whoever they want to and not whoever she decides they should love.  Mariano asks who Virginia is in love with.  She tries to lie and say she's just talking about Pablo, but he can tell she's speaking for herself.  He doesn't know how he can expect her to trust him if they're a failure as a family.

Pablo calls Monica's, but she's enjoying a bath with her headphones in and doesn't hear the ringing.  He leaves her a message that he needs to talk to her in person.

Lorenza tries to talk to him again and Pablo refuses, saying he's always told them "con Esmeralda, todo; sin Esmeralda, nada." (with Esme, everything; without Esme, nothing)

Tomorrow: Monica ignores; Rita tells.

Just to clarify...no guns were actually fired during this episode. The promo monkeys were messing around in the editing room and added a gunshot sound to the preview.

Thanks, Kat, for your sublime retelling of lives of the rich and infamous.

I think Mariano may be onto something with his "incoherencia" description. The plot feels a little like quicksand trapping any progress.

It felt like each scene was a little set piece, with hardly any flow or transition between scenes. Just plugging in the pretty pictures, saying "see, here's Esme and Pablo. Aren't they beautiful in the restaurant?" Where's the dialog, the discussion?

Possible highlight--Rita dropping the pilfered candlestick on the floor.

Watching Augie suffer and moan over his situation, one can see where Pablum inherited his wimpy character. Lowrenza does seem like a bit of a Lady Macbeth.

I liked seeing Maria stand up to Rita a little. Maybe she can protect Fela for a while.

I had a vision of Rita as the evil witch in Hansel and Gretel. In that apron and evil expression, she looks ready to pop someone into the oven. (If she had an oven? not sure about that.)

Gracias, La Paloma! I love "rich and infamous."

I'm afraid the answer to your question about the discussion between Esme and Pablo over this month of secret dates is that Pablo kept saying "ditch the old guy" and Esme kept saying "ditch the blonde" over...and over...and over.... Accompanied by him thought bubbling "She's so different!" and her thought bubbling "I can't believe he's not asking about the babies!"

Whoof! What an episode and thank you so much La 5ft for your snarky take on the whole thing.

By the way, at the end when they show Monica in the tub not answering her phone, she is lying in the bubbles with her head back and...and it almost looked like a death scene. The cords to her earbuds were red and stretched across her neck, ugh.

Maria bothers me, because she delivers her lines in a complete monotone and has no facial expression. Other than that, I'm glad she's around to bird-dog Fela. I wish we could just get all the nice people from the dump to move into El Sil's mansion: Fela of course, Centavito, maybe that nice horse that pulls the cart.

I'm not sure why we are still being subjected to El Italiano, I have a horrible feeling he is going to figure in the plot again.

Thanks again 5ft and also to LA Paloma: I loved your comment about Rita looking like the witch in Hansel and Gretel...she does!!!

Gracias, J! I didn't even notice the earbud cords, but I did think Monica's face in that last scene didn't look "relaxed" so much as "passed out." It was a little creepy.

Kat- I don't know how you managed to make such a dull episode sound so interesting. Amazing!

A whole month of dates, and Pablo and Esme spoke of nothing of consequence. Wow! At least Fernando's plan totally worked, and Pablo is ready to dump his novia and defy his family to be with Esme. Pablo's plans to seduce and dump went right out the window. This guy has no backbone, even when it comes to his own revenge plans.

So glad Fela is back and clean and safe. Rita has rotten follow through for her plans. How much longer until she tells Fernando the truth about Blanca?

I think I've realized I only like Nathalie Latoodle's the in small doses, like once or twice a week. I might have to cut back on watching, but I'll keep up with these fab recaps. :)

Thank you Kat!! You made the episode more interesting.

I'm really scratching my head over the rescue of Fela. I guess it's more Esme not wanting to take advantage of El Sil, but with a fabulous bathroom and plumbing available why wouldn't they take Fela to the mansion for a bath? And food!! Argh!! I guess to prolong our torture.

I really wish Fela had remembered she didn't like Rita. Rita has no business caring for Fela.

J in Oregon-Maria bothers me too. Sweet kid. Terrible acting.

Despite the slow turn, I'm looking forward to tonight. Maybe things will speed up.

Oh, and QTH? Tub in the living room?

Thanks, KAt. . I got such a kick out of Rita shoving that candlestick under her apron and inviting herself into the more upscale shack fir dinner with Maria and Fela. She is a scrawny, dirty , cagey little ferret of a woman always wheeling and dealing for an advantage.

Thanks, 5ft for your zingy take on this episode.

I especially liked:

"Because the Virgin is THAT good."

"...to either sue or get off the pot."

and, "...Rita wonders how the hell she's going to manage to stay relevant to the plot."

Although he seems faithful to el Sil, I think something is wrong with the lawyer because he laughs every time he paints Augie into a tighter corner. That just doesn't seem like professional behavior to me.

I got a kick out of Meatball's half mustache. When I was in Korea, a lot of guys would grow mustaches that they would never do at home. One guy had this magnificent handlebar mustache, and 3 weeks before he returned home, he shaved one half of it off, then went down and had a new picture ID made. People would come up to him and try to tell him that he couldn't walk around like that, but it turns out the Army regs just said that you could have hair above the lip, and that an appropriate ID picturing this had to be carried on your person. The regs said nothing about how the hair had to be distributed on the upper lip.

I think Pablo's "revenge" was as well thought out as the trajectory of his career path.

Can't wait to see the look on el Sil's face when Fala is revealed.

David

Thanks so much and another where your recap flows much better than the action.

"Note to Lorenza: if you don't want to face justice alone, hide the booze and hide the gun!"

"sue or get off the pot"

Wah wah woh wah wah is all I heard last night.

Monica - warm bubble bath and a "Daily Affirmation With Stuart Smalley."

Rita - can't keep an old hag down

Virginia - believe me bro, I know, that heifer punches like a man

Lorenza - can't help it if his face hit my hand

Esmeralda - and he hasn't once asked to pay for lunch

Mariano - and if I like her, you'll do what, cry and go tell mama

Fernando - don't rush me

Augie - you said you'll kick my ass after school but what day

Pablo - how can I know what to do, I've never had an original thought

Fela - homecoming clean

David-Love the mustache story! That's the kind of thing I would do...if I could grow facial hair.

I forgot to mention that was really annoyed with the avances monkeys last night. I almost wish they wouldn't try so hard.

OT: Is anyone watching Cuna de Lobos on TLnovelas? Or has anyone watched it in the past? I started watching it and I just have some questions (not the best sound quality and NO captions). Feel free to e-mail me!

I've got to go to Los Angeles today so this probably will be it for me today.

Not an exciting episode last night but Diva you made it better than it actually was. The recap team is A#1.

Ines seems to me like the garbage dump tough girl. I have to give Maria credit for standing up to her but on the other hand I can't blame Ines for being angry that Fela has moved into her, Ines's room. I mean it's not they have much and now Ines is out of a room
Maybe she will move in with her partner in crime and let Fela have her space.

Monica bath scene---They fooled me
I saw the red ear buds and red cord, I thought that she was a goner.

Tofie your list is always good for a morning laugh. Mariano tells Pablo, what if I do love her are you going to cry and tell
mommy? --- Virginia says believe me that heifer punches like a man.
And Pablo never pays for lunch. Tofie, I don't know how you do it day after day. I still think that it's something in the water where you live.

5ft - Terrific recap.

I actually liked this episode. My favorites scenes:

- Rita getting up and the pilfered candlestick dropping out of her dress right in front of Fernando

- Esme refusing to kiss Pablum before he breaks up with Monica and even calling his bluff by standing up to leave the restaurant. Seems like Fernando has taught her lessons from Steve Harvey's book "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man."

Fernando is right about Pablo. Had Esmeralda melted and hooked up with him again he would marry Monica, go right back to belittling her as he cheated on his wife.

Pablo still cannot remarry Esmeralda, support her and the children if he wanted. When his parents are stripped of their wealth and name he'll just mooch off her.

I believe Rosa and even her daughter were impregnated and abandoned by rich boys. Thus her horrible fesrs gor Luisa.

I laughed do much at the look Ale gave Acacia when she suggested a pj party, it totally looked like "what a loony idea, thats so weird" kinda look. Turns out she was expressing confusion because she didnt know that Ac and Ul broke up. It was so funny, wondering if anyone noticed it. Well. I am going to read comments now. Have a great y'all

Gracias, Vivi. Ms. Latoodledoodle is including so much filler they probably could have edited a week's worth of episodes down to 2! Glad you're joining us for the recaps at least :D

Gracias, Sara. I keep wondering why, every time Fela gets a bath, Esme doesn't wash her hair, too, or even get it wet. It's bugging me. Probably has to do with the old wives' tale about walking around with wet hair giving you a cold and not trusting Fela sit still long enough to dry it. I dunno. I agree with you about the avances...why put more effort into the avances than into the actual show?!

Gracias, David. Osorio has always been very enthusiastic about bringing down Augie. I hope it's just the glee of bringing down someone who deserves it and not something more. That mustache story was hilarious!

Gracias, tofie. Excellent list, as always. I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh darnit, Pablo likes me! I wonder if Fernando really does want Pablo married to Esme or just for him to legally claim his children. He keeps saying that if Esme wants Pablo, he'll make sure Esme gets Pablo, but I'm trying to think if he's ever been very specific about the conditions of that.

Gracias, gringo. Safe travels! If you think the recappers are great, you should see the commenters :D Seriously, we wouldn't work so hard if nobody was enjoying it, so thank you, as always, for your enthusiasm.

Gracias, Niecie. Rita with the candlestick in the living room...how did she think she was going to hide that? Hilarious!

Hi Novella lover! Nice to see you! I think you meant to put your comment on the post for a different show!

My comment disappeared again, but I want to say thanks to KAt and tofie for giving me some smiles today,

I wasn't able to post a comment yesterday, so just wanted to say, thanks for the recap Sara and sorry about the migraine. I had a really bad migraine once that I laid on my bathroom floor for six hours because the coolness of the tiles was the only thing that was comforting.

Thank you 5ft Latina for today's recap. My favorite quote from it all: "...to either sue or get off the pot." I think WE need to start smoking some if we want to understand what is going on with Esme and Pablo, well Pablo mostly? Seriously, a month of dating and they don't even talk about the babies? At this point, I am all Pablo'd out. Also, Rita needs to go away. If I were Silencioso, after knowing what Esme went through, there is no way in hell I would trust her ever.

Gracias, Susanlynn! Dang it! The disappearing comments strike again! Thank you for your determination.

Gracias, Caroline! I agree with everything you said. A month of secret dates, they don't seem to have talked about anything important or all the misunderstandings would have been cleared up by now...and he moves in for a kiss. What?! Maybe it's Pablo who's smoking.

I'm glad Augie didn't pull the trigger last night...but recall this is the second time the avances monkeys have faked us out with a gunshot that never happened. The first one was a jealous Meatball "shooting" Pablo on the hillside.

J in Oregon

That's right! I'd forgotten about that.

I know I'm making my bad taste public, but the avances monkeys don't have to work so hard for me. I'll watch anyway. I wonder if Univision does their own avances based on what they think will appeal most to US audiences or if we get the same ones used in Mexico.

If they did that it would imply that they think we're bloodthirsty and sex-obsessed. I've seen them use editing to make it look like something is going to happen, but all the pieces they use actually happen in the show, but I don't know if I've seen them do this previously--add something that doesn't happen in the episode at all in order to mislead us.

I was confused by the tub in the living room too. LOL! Or was the couch in her bathroom.

Kat- Well, even if we were sex-obsessed, we know Uni wouldn't give it to us anyway.

I've seen a tub in the bedroom before, but not the living room. I'm thinking that would be weird when you have company over...not that she seems to ever have anyone over except for Pablo! I'm trying to picture having a party or something and drunk guests falling in. Maybe there's a cover she can put on it.

We have a small couch in our ensuite/dressing room

Just finished watching and reading and must say, thank you so very much for the first class recap.

I love this show despite the sometimes confusing twists and turns. I depend so much on the recaps and you never disappoint.

Tofie- That makes sense. But this was a full sectional set with coffee table and everything!

Forgot to ditto that the Monica scene was supposed to look like she was dead. Otherwise why make a big deal out of the fact that Pablo tried to call her and she didn't answer because she was bathing. Much ado about nothing (except to alarm us):-)

Gracias, Missy! They are sooooo toying with us.

She must at least be brain dead to not realize her fiance has been going out on pretty public dates every day for the last month with his ex wife.

Yep, somehow he escaped Monica on a daily basis when the first few days after their "official" engagement were filled with wedding nonsense and suddenly...a month of nothing? And Lorenza never asked where he was going? It's all very suspicious.
