La Gata #27 10/7/14 La Carta
Here's what I did get:
See Fela. See Fela run. See Fela sneak on the bus. See Fela get kicked off the bus. See Fela starve. See Fela filch a sandwich. See Fela talk to her doll. See Fela nap in the park.
See the Meatball. See the Meatball with a fake mustache. See Lupe investigate. See Lupe mention that the Meatball isn't even Italian. See the recapper wonder QTH?
See Augie. See Augie get an e-mail. See Augie read the e-mail. See the e-mail tell Augie to meet about FDLSC's assests. See Augie drink straight from the bottle. See Augie deny he's an alcoholic.
See Augie meet with FDLSC's lawyer. See the lawyer go for Augie's jugular. See Augie huff and puff.
See Augie moon over Blanca's picture (QTH?)
See Rita. See Rita try to bamboozle Maria. See Maria tell Rita she has to check with Esme.
See Rita plan to find Fela/Blanca. See Rita delude herself into thinking that will give her a free ticket into Fernando's Hideaway and all the luxuries it affords.
Here's were I started getting lost:
I really can't stand mind games.
Pablow sends a letter to Esmeralda. He wants to see her. She isn't so sure and tells Jarocha wants to keep this request from El Sil. El Sil conveniently overhears the conversation and convinces Esmeralda to respond to the letter. He will dictate everything she should say. Apparently, step one of his venganza is to keep Pablow from marrying Moni-duh. I think there is a little "I want to make my little girl happy" in there, too. Either way, I wasn't catching much of any of this plot tonight.
Pablow shows the letter to Mariano, who immediately thinks something is fishy. It sure doesn't sound like Esme. Pablow asks who is he to know what she would sound like. Mariano thinks Pablow is playing a dangerous game. Esme agrees to see Pablow at the tree on the barranca. She'd like to rekindle the relationship, but there will be conditions.
Pablow and Esme meet at the barranca. He has lines. She has lines. They go get coffee. He has lines. She has lines. She's so happy! She thought bubbles that he doesn't even ask about his kids. She toasts his future happiness. She heard he's getting married soon and he says that all depends on her. They're there to discuss their relationship, aren't they? They both agree they don't want to see the other with someone else. Pablow admits he loves Esme. She tries to leave, but he's afraid she won't come back (?) She says as long as he accepts her conditions, she'll be back (?)
The conditions
1. Don't ask anything of me. I'll see you when I can. I have other obligations. (Pablo: lines about someone taking care of her. Esme: lines about caring for someone and they love her like no one ever has. WE know it's the babies.)
2. "Lo nuestro" will be a secret. Your family and girlfriend can't find out. (Pablo: Well, duh.)
3. He's going to go back to acting like he used to. (Lines about not needing material things.)
Avances
Augie's got a gun.
Lowrenza's got a right hook
Yeah. I know this is crap. Maybe if I knew what the heck FDLSC was thinking it would help me.

I don't understand why we're still having to put up with Meatball. He's no longer relevant to the story and needs to GO. That scene you described...yep. That's exactly what happened. They vaguely hinted that the Meatball's Italianhood was in question and I have no idea where that came from. It made me think something was edited out, in which case, I curse the editing monkeys who spared us from the side plot about questioning the Meatball's ethnicity, but still saw fit to torture us with this scene.
QTH about Augie and Blanca, for sure! He said something like Fernando doesn't know the real reason he had him locked up and stole all his stuff...and then he goes and moons over the picture. Seriously? If this was all about Blanca somehow, news flash, Augie...you messed up! Big time!
Rita's another one who no longer serves any purpose and just needs to go. Two days ago it was "I have to be careful...what if Blanca remembers?" and now it's "I should find Blanca and hand her over to Fernando!" Makes NO sense!
If there's a master plan behind all this, I'd really like to be let in on it. Oh, sure, I'm intrigued about where they're going, but I'm also VERY confused and VERY suspicious that they haven't thought all their surprising plot twists through to the end.
"I'm also VERY confused and VERY suspicious that they haven't thought all their surprising plot twists through to the end." This sounds just like the end part of CI, when so many useless plots were added in and some never followed through."
People had also commented on Gata's lowered chin and uptilted eyes--her "look." With Lauren Bacall's recent death, many comments were made on Bacall's trademark "look". Here's one:
She was Hawks’ protégé, famously so green that her legendary “Look”—chin low, eyes glancing up in a come-hither but still better-than-you stare—was born out of a need to stop her head from trembling.
Worked for Betty (Bacall), works for Maite.
Couple random thoughts: the peasant lady on the bus who demanded that Blanca be thrown off the bus was like a Lorenza wanna-be.
Rita offers Maria a "job" begging. Newsflash, Maria: you already have a job taking care of Fela and also a decent-ish roof over yo' head. Why look so excited to accept Rita's offer?
I don't have a migraine and yet I was totally baffled by the whole "meet me to talk" scene between Pablo and Esme. He apparently wrote from his heart, her reply was dictated by El Silencioso. Their coffee date was just puzzling.
J in Oregon
Silencioso has a plan, but since his plan is "Get Pablo to break up with his fiancee and get back together with Esme" he knows all he has to do is convince Esme to go near Pablo and his plan will work no matter what she says or does. He's definitely got Pablo's number.
The Dick & Jane reader is where I'm afraid the writers got their inspiration.
Really hard to buy the cross/double cross affair thingie plot. All she would have to do is lay a DNA test in front of Pablow, he can read.
Augie - Fernando knowing, I can handle but it's Lorenza Bobbitt I'm worried about
Meatball - it's my costume for the halloween party, I'm going as a pirate
Rita - I've never done anything out of the goodness of my heart
Maria - Sure Rita and you can kiss my butt
El Sil - OPEN YOUR MOUTH
Pablow - I still can't sneak anything out of the kitchen for ya
Esmeralda - "And talk was small when they talked at all
They both knew what they wanted"...Third rate romance
Low rent rendezvous"
Fela - tomorrow I'll hit the drive thru at Wendy's
1. I am confused by Pablow's statement on Monday night. I swears he will rewin her love.
2. Flash forward to Tuesday. He's now blabbing about "getting her" before she "gets him". All rendered with "burlarse de" which we know means "to make fun of" but that's not at all what either one is meaning.
QTH?
And plan? Yeah, there's a plan. If it's to get Pablow and Esme back together then all you have to do...like tofie said...is get a DNA test. QTH? redux. That sort of thing annoys me.
It's only episode 27 and Golden Sunflowers said she didn't quit until around #50...so in theory we still have some entertaining episodes coming up. Maybe tonight will clear things up.
I get the impression that the writers and producers are trying to build mystery/suspense. So far I've only been confused.
Not that it matters. Maite is gorgeous and I'll watch anyway. Red is her color.
OH! OH! And what really gets me is Virginia knows Esme was suffering for Pablow, NOT running around with other men and Mariano knows how things really went down and he's not talking. Damn. Just put the four of them (ok, 5 counting Centavito/Carrlos) in a room with the DNA results and in 15 minutes you can clear everything up.
GAH!!!!
So basically Pablo wrote the love letter to Esme with two thoughts in mind- if she wrote him back and accepted meeting him, it means she's become a slut, and if she does accept, he'll seduce and then dump her. Silencio's counter-plan seems to be to get Pablo to court Esme with poetry, art, their place on the hill, the simple things they shared when they fell in love, so that they'll both fall head over heels in love again. Juaever!
Let's talk about more important plot points, like Esme's choice of the red outfit to meet Pablo. Great color on her!
Kat said above "with the scenes...where they really were just using a lot of words and not saying much of anything."
These are the kinds of episodes I hate to recap. Lots of words and very little sense. And clearly last night's dialogue was lost on me because I missed some of these subtleties. I am a literal person. I need Pablow to say "if she accepts she's a slut and I'll just seduce her and dump her. I WIN!"
(This is true for me in English, too. Just say what you mean.)
It doesn't help that we have a pretty quick turn around time on recaps, too. Sometimes it takes a few days for things to sink in.
Thank goodness you helped me, Vivi!
But again, why all the planning, plotting and talking?
Ah, silly me. We need at least 100 episodes.
The only thing he is good at is assuming the worst of her and picks up on any admiration for Esmeralda by his brother.
Sorry you had a migraine last night! Those must be awful. But you still managed to put up a great recap with yet another inventive format. By your comments this morning, it sounds like you are much better, thank God.
I wonder if Blanca's picture on Augie's computer will be the gateway for a new twisted background tale of love shunned and the start of vengeance.
Augie calling himself all those unflattering names was great. I'm sure the alcohol will help him make good decisions.
Pablo isn't stupid in the sense that he can't learn things, but his insulated family status has made him horribly insensitive to the feelings of others, and how human interaction is started and built upon. I wonder if he will need to suffer the complete collapse of his family's fortune and reputation before his mind can grasp the enormity of his lack of empathy and courage.
Thanks again, Sara.
David
David-I hope your scenario plays out (loss of family fortune.) Mainly because it will be a learning experience. Not the usual "oops my bad. Sorry" we've been getting from galans lately.
This was a very frustrating episode for me.
Every time Jarocha and Esme were together they both talked so fast the captions were shooting off the screen much faster than a person at my (Spanish)level could comprehend. Jarocha was constantly shifting from one foot to the other and swinging the baby was distracting. Both babies were crying. Then there was the background music competing with my hearing. I missed their entire conversation as well as the contents of both Pablo's and Esme's letters.
Thanks Vivi for the overview you gave, very helpful.
I've seen enough of Blanca's doll to get what it's supposed to signify. It's distracting at this point. Then, when I Esme wearing heels at the dump is it supposed to look sexy? Was Damian hitting on Esme?
On a side note, I never dreamed Daniel would look nothing but hot to me no matter what he showed up in, but gawd, he has succeeded in making me ill when I see him on screen.
Virginia & Mariano were raised with the same parents, ate the same food and lived in the same house as mama's boy.
Missy R - I had the exact same problem with Jarocha/Gata conversation...crying babies and back ground music.
The nasty pushy bus lady needs to share a room in hell with Lorenza.
Thanks so much for the recap.
the gringo
What about the avances showing Augie holding a pistol to his head, then having a shot heard in the house? I don't think he's got the aguacates to off himself. Bet he shot Blanca's picture on his computer screen.
David
Pablo is a real mess. And speaking of Mama's boy, has Esme actually told him that he in fact is the BABY DADDY of the twins? Why isn't this one of her conditions that he acknowledge paternity since it seems it's Silencio's?
Yes David---Pablo's family is going to have to loose it all before Pablo comes to his senses.
David, I liked the idea that came out a few episodes back when Silencioso told her, Esmeralda, that one day the Negrete mansion would be hers--she will own it. I can't wait. Kind of like the rancho grande that Maricruz was thrown out of in CI. A little while later Maricruz walked through the front door of the Rancho as it's new owner and the people that said that she wasn't good enough to set foot in the rancho were packing their things
on their way out. That was one of the highlights of Corazon Indomable for me and I'm sure when Esmeralda becomes the sole owner of the Negrete mansion I will experience a high also.
People took notice when Damian put his hand on Esmeralda's arm last night. Esme noticed it and pulled away. Was there something there or was it just an innocent gesture? I was wondering about that. I guess that we're going to find out what was going on there.
Does Augie shoot himself tonight or are they just playing with us in the advances?
If Augie commits suicide, do you guys think that Lorenza will be a tougher foe, I do.
the gringo
I have heard others say the same thing. Are our comments gathering out in cyberspace?
Blanca boards the bus but gets kicked off because she doesn't have a ticket. Before she had to leave the bus, in the next row to her was a turkey taking up a seat.
My question is---Do turkeys that are taking up a seat have to pay for that seat or do people with animals just have to pay for one seat? Anyone ride busses in Mexico? What's the Policy. Do you have to pay extra if your animal is to big to hold and needs a seat?
the gringo
I would be interested to know how much turkey's have to pay. And how offensive is it that that woman would rather share the bus with a turkey than a human? (I like turkeys though.)
Susanlynn-What's the title of that book?
Susanlynn and Sara, in the early 50's when I went to parochial school we had David and Ann readers. I think they used it to sneak in some stuff about the Baltimore Catechism.
David
Susanlynn---No it just isn't you.
This the second time for me that a
comment disappeared. I don't think that the size of the comment matters because the one that vanished earlier this morning was a short one.
Another thing that is very annoying to me is that while watching the novelas on Univision,
two or three times for each episode the picture and sound will break up just for a few seconds but then will all come back together and be fine. WHTF?
It only happens on Univision, in LA it's 34.1 a standard station not cable or satellite. That problem doesn't happen anywhere else. Electronics, I'll never understand it.

I'm actually glad the driver didn't let Fela take the bus. If she already has no resources in DF, it's not likely she would have done any better in Zacatecas. In a way, it would have been irresponsible for him to take her and then, what...just drop her off and walk away? If she'd been able to articulate why she wanted to go there or that she'd be able to take care of herself or had someone waiting for her, maybe, but this is Fela. All she's got is "I'm running away from the bad lady." I guess the bad lady on the bus was only there so that Fela could get kicked off, but I still want to kick her in the shins. Her and the writers. "Hey, let's have Fela sneak onto a bus to Zacatecas...that will freak the audience out, thinking Fela will be even farther away from her husband and daughter...but then, at the last minute we'll have some nosy passenger get her thrown off the bus. Oh, but the driver should be sympathetic, so we get that moment of doubt that maybe he'll let her stay." What was the point? We get to the end of the scene and nothing has changed except that a few more minutes of the episode have passed.
Esme seems to be assuming that because she told Mariano about the babies, that means he told Pablo. So she's testing him by waiting to see if he'll bring them up and of course, he fails. This is what would throw a wrench in a possible relationship with Mariano--once she finds out his role in keeping Pablo from her, she's not going to be happy with him. Sure, Pablo should have fought harder, but that doesn't excuse what Mariano did, and he's going to be hard-pressed to say he loves her when he's the one who made her babies "illegitimate." He'll have to talk fast.
I did love her dress, but I kept thinking she was going to trip and fall in those shoes on that steep hill. Pablo was all worried about her being late..."Sorry, babe, I move slower in these heels."
And of course you're right, Kat. As much as I want Mariano and Esme to get together...he does have too many "sins" in his column. I hope he's feeling eat up with guilt, though.
Susanlynn-For Kitty to lose the house, she would have to own the house...and I think that would mean the death of El Sil and I hope he makes it to the fin!
I am a big fan of Erika Buenfil and she's doing a great job here.
now have. Pablo's house.
the gringo
You're right gringo. I forgot that.
Only a couple more hours!
I just can't see how Esme can care about a Pablum when he won't even ask about her kids. Even if he's stupid enough to think they're not his, they're hers and he should ask.
Meatball isn't even Italian? Where in the world is this going?
