La Malquerida #27, 9/30/14: Alejandra Meets Her Demon Danilo, Face to Face!

Mexico Episode #32

Madelaine is sick with the flu, and Gloria is frolicking in the mountains, so I’m filling in tonight. And boy, was this episode a doozy! In an effort to capture tonight’s important confrontations, I made this recap detailed. Let’s get on with it!

The Old:
In the church, Perla and Alejandra argue loudly about the Danilo situation. Perla refuses to come with Ale to denounce Dan, and blames Ale for everything that went wrong after she took off with the merchandise—Danilo getting beat down by his bosses, left lame, and without his business. She tells Ale that Danilo is coming after her to kill her, and she better run.

The New:
Esteban is drinking in his office and breathing heavy after hearing that Acacia and Ulises have been having the marriage talk. His perv confidant Rubio comes in and Este pounds his fist on the desk and says Acacia can’t be Ulises’, or ANY man’s! Rubio tries to talk sense into Este and tells him that he and Acacia can’t live under the same roof. Este says all he needs to do is keep control of himself. He says this while grabbing Rubio’s lapels and breathing heavy. Yeah…how’s that “getting in control of yourself” plan working out, Este? Rubio leaves.

The real Church ladies have gotten tired of the two inappropriately dressed women screeching at each other, and make a beeline towards the back of the church for the Padre. Perla says we do what we have to do, to survive. Ale’s not having it. Perla can go on being exploited if she wants, but Ale has had the taste of a decent life, and she sure as heck won’t let Danilo steal it from her! The Padre interrupts before things become heated again. Perla covers up her boobs, and Ale stands up, points to Perla, and yells that Perla is the woman of the man who exploited her! Perla hustles out of the church quickly, and says it’s Ale’s funeral because Dan is coming to kill her.

In the Hacienda living room, Elena and Cris talk. Elena thinks Esteban’s jealousy over Acacia is over the top. (In Spanish, jealousy is an emotion often spoken about between parents and children, not just lovers, as it’s most often used in English.) Cris agrees with Elena, but thinks it’s just because Este hasn’t accepted that Acacia has grown up. What Cris is upset about is that Acacia confided her future plans with Ulises to Elena her abuela, and not to Cris, her mother. Elena thinks it was a timing thing, since Cris was on honeymoon, not because Acacia doesn’t trust her. Cris starts to feel guilty about letting Acacia grow up with her abuelos.

In the back of the church, Ale talks to the priest. He tells her that German is a good young man, and he’s sure he will understand everything. Ale worries about the scandal, and ending up in jail herself for being one of the working girls. The Padre assures her that won’t happen—she was a minor. Ale thinks stealing the drugs will get her in trouble with the law. The Padre tells her she’ll have to tell it ALL. She agrees with him and decides to tell German right away. He hands her the phone. It’s better that German hear it from her, before it all comes out. She calls German and asks him to meet her. He says he always has time to see her, and shares the good news about Acacia convincing Manuel to get the operation. He invites her to have ice-cream in the plaza. The Padre tells Ale to have faith. God will give her the strength she needs. Ale doesn’t look convinced.

Luisa washes plates and cries silently. Rosa wants to know if it’s Rubio’s gift that’s still bothering her—that dress that wasn’t suitable for a decent young lady. Luisa embraces Rosa and starts to sob. Luisa admits it’s Manuel who she’s crying about. Rosa doesn’t understand. If she loves him so much, then she should be by his side. Luisa says Manuel will never want her back. She doesn’t want to talk about it!

Acacia and Ulises talk about Manuel and the foundation/brick laying ceremony. She will be there! They smooch.

Este acts like an ass about Uli reconstructing the bodega. Cris calmly tells Este she doesn’t like his tone and the way he is talking to her, nor his jealousy (the non-creepy kind) over Acacia. I love Cris. Este changes his tone and apologizes. It was a hard day. Blah, blah, blah. Then he gets bent out of shape again about Acacia and Uli’s plans for the future. Cris also wants to have a serious talk with Acacia about that.

Norberto and Memo walk through Danilo’s lands. Norberto promised Dan the use of his cotton harvesting machine to make the harvest faster and easier, in exchange for Dan selling him his crop. He orders his capataz to work with Memo. Once alone, he calls the cotton buyer to tell him he’s found the rest of his cotton. But, mum’s the word. Full discretion.

Ale is about to enter the town plaza/park, when a man grabs her arm. She turns and calls out German. But instead of Big, Sweet and Sexy, she’s greeted by her worst nightmare, Danilo Vargas!!

Danilo drags terrified Ale into the park. “Mi amor, mi chiquita, mi Turquesa! Or should I call you, my Alejandra?!”

Ale pulls away and starts running for her life. Danilo moves pretty fast for a guy with a limp, and those platform shoes are doing Ale no favors. Then Danilo pulls a ninja move, and tosses his silver headed cane right at Ale’s feet, causing her to trip and fall. He drags her up, and covers her mouth and nose when she screams out for help. He drags her deeper into the park and says they need to talk. He pushes her up against a statue, and pulls out his large switchblade. He asks her if she remembers it. She starts to shriek and shake hysterically. He rubs the blade across the scar on her face he made with it years ago. He threatens to cut her throat this time. Ale shows a bit of fight is still left in her. She stares Danilo in the eyes and through gritted teeth says, “I prefer that you KILL ME, than return to you!”

Carmen and Arturo talk about what to give Ulises as a gift for his foundation/brick laying. He’s happy she took his advice and fought for her relationship with Dr. Andres. She wants to know if he’ll invite Luisa to the event. Andres arrives before he can answer, and invites Arturo out with them. Arturo doesn’t want to be a third wheel (mal tercio). Dude, when your mom’s boyfriend is inviting you to join their dates, it’s time for you to find a girlfriend!

Back to the horror movie…Danilo is still holding and threatening Ale with a knife and calling her an ingrate (malagradecida). (Did Ale forget to send him a Christmas card thanking him for kidnapping her as a child, raping her repeatedly, making her have sex with myriads of disgusting men, AND keeping all the profits? Oh yeah, and denying her brother healthcare and letting him die? MIL OCHO MIL GRACIAS, DANILO! You’re as generous as Santa Claus!)

Ale brings up the fact that he let her brother die. Danilo’s excuse—he was already sick and was going to die anyway. Wow. This guy just makes me feel so warm and fuzzy. He then accuses her of being a bad sister for just leaving Carlitos’ body there. Ale says that it was his dying wish to see her escape. Dan tries to entice her by dangling Carlitos’ burial site. Ale almost lets slip what Perla told her about them just dumping him in a graveyard for unknown/unclaimed people, but catches herself and says that’s what the Padre told her happens to the unclaimed. Danilo lies and says he gave him a proper funeral and resting place, all for her. Ale gets spirited again and yells in his face that she doesn’t believe him! But Dan still has her by the throat and has that knife to her face.

Dan gets all crazy obsessive about how much he loved her, and she ABANDONED him! He jabs the knife slightly against her stomach. Then he forces a disgusting kiss on her, and begs her not to cry when she starts to whimper. He kisses her hand and says she’s coming back to him. She pushes him away and screams, “NEVER!!!! I HATE you! You disgust me! This time, I won’t remain quiet!”

Uh oh! Dan gets a crazy killer look in his eyes. “You’re going to denounce me? Everyone/anyone can die.” He approaches her with the knife, hooks the zipper on the bust of her dress, and pulls it down slightly. “And this false life you’ve constructed as Alejandra could also end.” He kisses her neck, close to her cleavage. She pushes him to the ground and yells that she doesn’t care. She’s going to the police right now! He grabs her leg and doesn’t let go!

OK. Breathe everyone. Time for a change of scenery. Cris is at the hospital with Juliana and Juliana is laying it on thick about Acacia being the ONLY ONE who could convince Manuel to have the surgery. Cris once again voices her concern about Manuel guilting Acacia and setting unrealistic expectations for their relationship. Cris thinks the best place for Manuel to continue to receive care is in the hospital in San Jancinto. This is music to Julie’s ears! She wants Cris to convince Norberto. “I know if I go to San Jacinto, everything will change for the better…”

Este continues to be an ass and interrupts Acacia and Uli in the living room with the news that her Abuelo isn’t feeling well and she should go see him immediately. Once alone with Uli, he really lets the assholery fly, and blah blahs about Uli pulling the wool over Acacia’s eyes, but he’s not fooling him! “I’m warning you, Ulises. Acacia will NEVER be yours.”

Enough of that foolishness. Let’s get back to the REAL nutjob in this tn. Danilo goes back to pathetic stalker mode. He begs Ale to come back to him. She tells him never, slaps him (I think her ring falls off around this time), and throws all the crap he did to her (buying her from her mom, raping her, etc.) and her brother in his face. Does he think she can forget?! He claims he just wanted to give her a better, more comfortable life. Ale points out that he dragged her and the other women into a life of indignity, and gave them nothing. Danilo is crying now too. “I want you to LOVE me. Like how I love you!” (This dude is sick!) He gets on his knee, begs forgiveness, and swears he’ll make up for the damage he’s done to her. “The only thing I want is to be FAR AWAY from YOU!!,” Ale says.

Danilo gets to his feet and turns into a cold blooded killer again. He holds the knife to her and says she can’t reject him, or else he’ll KILL her! (See how quickly that turned? Wow!)

Danilo continues his mood swings and puts away the knife. By this point, Alejandra is a sniveling, shaking mess. Danilo says they’ve both made mistakes (ha!) and that he’s changed. He’s gone legit! He’s a farmer now. Ale doesn’t believe him. She calls him a pervert and says she’ll never go back to him. She sobs and turns away from him as he holds her tightly to him. German finally arrives and runs to Ale’s rescue when he sees her in such distress. “What’s going on here?!”

Acacia hangs out with Juan Carlos in his bedroom. He doesn’t want them to treat him like some sickly old man. Acacia tells him about Manuel, and JC voices the same concerns as Cris. Then she tells him she made up with Uli, which makes JC happy. A very cute scene, in this very dark episode.

More Este being an ass to Uli. Este tries to pull fatherly rank and says he’s the person Uli should first speak with about future plans with Acacia. Uli disagrees. Acacia is the first person he will speak with about making any future plans together. Este starts yelling and shouts that he’s not going to let Ulises or anyone get near Acacia, just as Cris walks into the room. Esteban’s got some ‘splainin’ to do.

Ale is a mess, and German holds her and demands that Danilo tell him what he did to her. Ale is shocked that German knows Danilo by name. When Danilo says it’s his fault Ale is in this state, German grabs him by the lapels and angrily demands to know what he did! Danilo spins his tale:

D: I remind her of her past. Of a painful time in her life.
A: Enough, Danilo!
G: Enough, nothing! Right now you’re going to tell me what’s happening!

Danilo claims he was close to Ale when her brother Carlitos died, and seeing him obviously brings up painful memories for her. German instantly feels like a jerk and apologizes to Danilo. Ale starts to weep and German pulls her into an embrace. He tells Danilo that he doesn’t like to see Ale cry, and he didn’t know what had happened. Dan says to Ale that he never meant to hurt her and that he’s always cared deeply for her. Ale is barely keeping it together. German asks where they knew each other. Dan says they were next door neighbors in San Jacinto, practically living right on top of each other. He asks German to pick up his cane, and takes the opportunity to grab Ale into a menacing embrace and threaten that he’ll be having her watched and she better not do anything! He then tells German to care for Ale, and sucks up by sending greetings to Juliana and Norberto with an offer to help Manuel any way he can. This just serves to show Ale who has the power and influence in this situation. Ale and German leave.

Este tries to cover his assholery by telling Cris he was just warning Uli about any man hurting Acacia. Uli declares how much he loves Acacia to Cris. Cris is fine with that, but thinks Acacia is way too young to be thinking marriage, and needs to finish her education. Uli agrees, but he’s sure there is no other woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Cris is just worried they’re going too fast. Acacia comes in and says she and Uli are sure, and she’s still planning on finishing her education while he works on his career. Este makes a crack about Uli possibly failing in his endeavors…in a way that makes it seem like he’s planning on making sure it happens. Ass. Cris basically tells them that marriage is work (and boy, is Este making her work hard right now), but she seems pleased with their answers. Alone with Este, Cris calls him out again about his behavior. He leaves the room in a snit, and Cris looks mighty concerned.

Julie and Norberto talk over a sleeping Manuel. Julie lays it on thick to get Norbie to agree to her and Manuel moving to San Jacinto- she will live with her parents. He finally agrees. But, he wants to know why she left him before and went to San Jacinto. He’ll never give her a divorce. He loves her and married her for life. Julie placates him by saying they just need to focus on Manuel right now, and they’ll see about their marriage later. He goes for a kiss, and she deflects. He tries to kiss her cheek and she flinches and gets teary. He gets teary too as he begs her for another chance. He offers to pay off all her parents’ bills. He’ll do whatever she wants, as long as she’s not so cold to him. He promises to win back her love. This is all really sad and pathetic.

In a restaurant, Andres asks Carmen to form a life with him/marry him. Carmen doesn’t think she wants to get married again. Plus, she’s got her work, likes her life the way it is. And all that paper work for getting married. Ugh! Andres changes tactics and asks her to move in with him. He wants to share his life with her. They smooch, which leads to some bedroom action later and declarations of forever love. Just in time for Hurricane Juliana to blow into town. Oh, goody!

German has taken Ale back to their love bodega. She thought he would have turned her bedroom back into his studio. Nope, he’s leaving it as is, even the empty spaces where her paintings hung, until she returns. Ale sits on the bed, stroking the sheets he bought her, and starts to cry silently. German kneels down in front of her. He says when he saw her with Danilo, he realized just how much her brother’s death affected/hurt her. The flood gates open, and Ale starts to sob uncontrollably. German asks her to talk to him and to not to fall into depression. He begs her not to cry, she’s breaking his heart. What can he do to make her better? He lays her on the bed to rest and turns to leave to get something. She grabs his hands and begs him not to leave her, so he curls up next to her on the bed. As they spoon, a deep look of concern passes over German’s face. (Yeah, Dude. Your girlfriend’s got problems.)

Cris discusses with Rosa her feelings about Acacia seeing Elena as more her mother than Cris. Rosa tells Cris that’s crazy talk, and makes her feel better.

Acacia gives Luisa the good news about Manuel’s surgery the next day. Luisa will pray for him, but refuses to go to the hospital to be insulted by Julie and Norbie. She makes Acacia promise not to leave Manuel alone.

In the house of ill repute, Dan is throwing back a whiskey, while Perla is having a hissy fit. She can’t believe he forgave Ale, after she ruined his business, and was the cause of him being left lame. She uses his cane for emphasis, even slapping his lame leg with it. Danilo doesn’t appreciate having his decisions questioned. He smashes his glass against the wall, and tells her to stop being a drama queen. Perla gets on her knees in front of him cries about getting old and that she can’t lose him again. He ignores her and pulls out Ale’s turquoise ring from his pocket to admire it.

Acacia comes to see Este in his office to talk about Uli. Uli is her boyfriend and she loves him, and she’d prefer for Este to butt out. (Hear that, Esteban?)  He says some b.s. about not being able to butt out since he’s seen Uli hurt her before. (When? When? Oh, you mean the times Acacia has listened to YOU and acted like a jerk to Uli who was totally innocent?)  He takes her hands, leans in close, and tells Acacia that Ulises is not the man for her and he’s asking her to leave him, forever. ASS!

Avances: Este tries to convince Acacia that Uli is not the man for her. Acacia calls Uli and tells him she LOVES him. Cris calls Este out for his bad attitude against Uli. Acacia packs a bag. Where’s she going?

Vivi, a masterful recap of the sad and spirit shattering events of last night.

The Danilo/Ale scene was so powerful and riveting, I found I had my hand covering my mouth while I silently screamed at her to try to get away. Frozen with grief, horror and revulsion, she had the courage to speak up to him, despite her being in grave peril.

Although I wanted her to, I cannot blame Ale one iota for not telling German everything. She was emotionally spent and I think trying to tell him all of the horrific events would have broken her.

"Back to the horror movie…Danilo is still holding and threatening Ale with a knife and calling her an ingrate (malagradecida). (Did Ale forget to send him a Christmas card thanking him for kidnapping her as a child, raping her repeatedly, making her have sex with myriads of disgusting men, AND keeping all the profits? Oh yeah, and denying her brother healthcare and letting him die?" mirrored the painful events with such clarity and heartbreak, it deserves to be repeated with praise.

I must mention your subtle yet wry touches throughout including "
Enough of that foolishness. Let’s get back to the REAL nutjob in this tn". Indeed.

“Elena thinks Esteban’s jealousy over Acacia is over the top. (In Spanish, jealousy is an emotion often spoken about between parents and children, not just lovers, as it’s most often used in English.)” Vivi, thank you for inserting this little pearl of wisdom. Very interesting.

Ordinarily, the Acacia/Uli/Esteban events would be top fodder for discussion, but Ale and Danilo usurped all of the other events.

I am praying German realizes that Ale needs help and guarding. We know Rubio will report all of Ale's movements to Danilo so she will have no peace.

Cris has now seen Este's anger and realizes that there is not quite sufficient justification for it. Will she realize her adored husband's jealouy and yearning for her daughter are behind this?

Madelaine, hope you feel better quickly. Gloria, please enjoy your time.

And Vivi, what can I say but thank you for once again breathing such fire into this pivotal episode.

Diana

Thanks so much Diana! I was right there with you, horrified as I watched the Ale-Danilo scene unfold. I also applaud how she bravely confronted him a few times during the whole ordeal. But this is a man who has held physical, sexual, emotional, and financial power over her for almost half her life. I think it will be very hard for her to escape that and break free of him. Plus, now there is the added issue of Dan being seen as a respected grower by the people Ale's knows, and the threats he keeps tossing her way.

That conversation was just wild, the way he swung from menacing to pathetic.

German clearly knows something is really wrong, but I don't think in his wildest dreams would he really be able to guess all there is behind Ale's emotional distress.

One of the most maddening occurrences was the way Danilo was able to turn the situation around by mentioning Ale's poor brother and turning his disgraceful death around in such a devious way as to be believable.

Vivi, even though Danilo goes from lucid to mad/needy/pathetic very quickly and there may be a streak of madness (or method to his madness), but overall, his cruel and sadistic nature is pure evil.

And Perla, caught between love and loathing is so pitiful, I have trouble watching her as well.

Diana

Diana- ITA. Danilo is pure evil, and knows not only how to intimidate, but also how to manipulate. And dangling Carlitos' burial site in front of Ale was all about manipulation. I just could not believe his gall trying to make Ale feel guilty about leaving Carlitos' body, and about leaving him (Danilo)!

Where is everyone today? Still in shock from the Danilo-Ale face-off? :)

I know Vivi! So much to talk about and so much to shudder about.

Hope some other folks are able to join in the discussion.

Diana

Thanks, Vivi..I have not watched this episode yet. ( We were up at 5.15 , and in the pumpkin patch at a local farm on a preschool field ..literally...by 9.15.) yawn. However, I will watch the episode later , and I am glad for the warning. My fervent hope is that German gets a chance to beat the stuffing out of Damdan before turning him over to the police.

I posted a comment , but it seems to have disappeared. The same thing happened yesterday for La Gata. hub updated my IPad, and I wonder if something got messed up.

It is very odd that Raunchy Rubio is acting as Estems voice of reason...QTH ?

Thanks for this superb recap!
I loved your touch of humor to this very serious episode.

Esteban was truly acting like an ass. The way he told Ulisses that Acacia will never be his, I would have seen red flags if I were Ulisses. He was clearly talking like a jealous lover and not like an overprotective father (or father figure) for Acacia.

German is such a sweet guy, I hope Ale does open up to him soob and tell him the truth. She has been suffering alone for way too long now. And now the longer she waits the more opportunity Danilo will have to hurt her again.

I don't understand how Esteban, who is supposed to be one of the heroes, can confide in someone like el Rubio - who is clearly on the evil side of the spectrum

The gringo is here as always and I'm not leaving.

Funny thing with all of Este's watching the bikini goddess from behind a tree. A program called Stalker premiers on CBS tonight.
Also Halloween will be here soon.

A Halloween stalker movie anyone?
I think we got one right here. I hope Cris can get Este straightened out.

What an episode last night. The first thing that came to mind when I saw the horror scene last night was Oh NO!---The bastard's got her. I know that Ale was shaking with fear but fear brings about survival. My second thought was---You've got ten fingernails,
use them. Kick his bad leg as hard as you can. Don't try to talk to him, run, scream your head off. Kick your shoes off and run--run--run and don't stop screaming. Of course, Ale did only a little of that.

German to the rescue? OMG!!! The evil bastard talked his way out of it, he manipulated Ale all the way. DamEvil is slick. I can't wait for his demise. I hope it's a good one.

Vivi---GREAT JOB!!!
Yeah...how's that getting in control of yourself plan working out Este?

Vivi---Your whole paragraph that starts out---Back to the horror movie was superb, it couldn't have been written any better.

So Acacia is going to finish school before she gets married.
That should give stalker Este plenty of time to mess with Ulises. Poor guy he doesn't know what he's in for. Why not take Nuria, you will have fewer problems.

Alejandra doesn't know that Rubio is being paid to watch her. I can't wait to see where this is going.

BRILLIANT recap, Vivi! Wonderful writing. Plus what with the flying dialog and the captions lagging so badly, I miss a lot of details, so I'm very grateful for all that you included.

There are a lot of good actors in this show. I thought the Danilo actor was terrific in his threatening scene, and the Ale actress also. Great stuff.

And now we see Esteban sliding into lust-fueled madness - it's both creepy and scary.

I hope this isn’t a “duh” question, but you’re just the person to ask, Vivi. Which character is the malquerida? My friend from Mexico says it’s Chris because her husband doesn’t love her right. I had thought it was Acacia, because Esteban’s sure not loving her right either.

Thanks for stopping by Susanlynn, Maggie, Gringo and Anon 2:56.

Susanlynn- I'm so sorry your comment disappeared. I hate when that happens! I'm sure it was a great one.

Anon 2:58- "I don't understand how Esteban, who is supposed to be one of the heroes..."

I really don't think that this is that kind of tn. Things aren't black or white and put into easy categories for all of these characters. There are a few gray characters, and Esteban is chief among them. I would not classify him as "the galan" nor am I expecting some easy happily ever after to this love/lust triangle.

Maggie- I really don't know who La Malquerida is. In the original play, that's what Acacia was called by the towns people, because of her incredible bad luck with the men in her life. Cris is well loved by everyone, and is totally ignorant of her husband's lustful feelings for her daughter. But you could say the fact that Este is having these feelings, and that her first husband was murdered, makes her very unlucky in love. Ale has some pretty terrible luck, and has been used and abused by men, until German. So many contenders. Perhaps it applies to all of the women?

Fascinating observations, Vivi. I hadn't thought of Ale as a malquerida, but you're so right. So it could be any of them.

And a lot of the men in the show qualify as mal-lusters.

Sara---TVyNovelas cover with Esteban, Acacia and Ulises on sale now is the US version. Most Latin magazines have both a US and a Mexican edition with different covers. I have been in large Mexican markets here in Los
Angeles and have on several occasions seen both version displayed. At first I thought that there were just some old issues that were left lying around
but now I know. Also I have been told by an email friend in Florida that the Mexican magazines often use better paper in them than the American ones, go figure.

Some time back I saw an old issue magazine with Maite on the front cover. I found the date of the magazine and a company that sells back issues and I ordered one. When I got it, the Magazines date was correct but Maite was not on the cover. When I inquired, I found out that there was an East Coast and a West Coast version, I got the wrong version.

Sara---You probably received the Mexican edition of TVyNovelas, that's my thought anyway.

The same holds true for cd's. The Mexican release and the American release are not always the same. It's marketing---If you're a collector you need to buy both $$$
the gringo

Vivi, you did so well. I like that you cover mostly everything that happened.

I think what we saw last nite, was the very beginning of Elena and Chris getting the feeling something is just not right about Este's behavior. You things that make you go "hmmmm??????....
But yet they cant imagine what is really going with Este very strong attraction for his stepdsughter. Mentally nobody wants to go here, even Ul, but he may be first to guess.

Novella Lover- So true. Both Cris and Elena now know something isn't quite right, but I really think it will take something happening right in front of their eyes to make them suspect Este's true feelings. I'm actually surprised that Uli's mind hasn't already gone there. But they are such decent people that they can't possibly think anyone would go there. Only Rubio, and that's because he's a pervert.

Vivi – Thanks for pitching in to recap for us. You got a blazing episode and covered it in all its gory. Appreciate all the details. I tool like “the REAL nutjob” line and these too:

The real Church ladies have gotten tired of the two inappropriately dressed women screeching at each other, and make a beeline towards the back of the church for the Padre.

Dude, when your mom’s boyfriend is inviting you to join their dates, it’s time for you to find a girlfriend!

Madelaine – Hope you feel better soon. Drink all the water you can stand.

Acacia was adorable with her grandpop and not at all annoying.

I wanted Ale to grab that cane and beat the crap out of Danilo with it. But ITA that she held her own considering the emotional and physical terror that she’s endured. She needs an activist priest like the one in Amor Bravio. This Padre isn’t activist at all. No wonder there were only two parishioners in the church.

I think Rubio likes having someone who is supposed to be “better” than him, his patrón, vulnerable enough to confide in him. Esteban can’t talk to anybody else about this, not without tarnishing his image, so Rubio will do. At least Rubio keeps his secret, but we've seen he's not above blackmail. Este needs a shrink.

If Este had helped to raise Acacia, he could fall back on "I feel like a father to her." But he didn't, so nobody should buy that one.

Vivi, thanks for a wonderful recap.

I wish the captions were in time with the acting. With that happening your recap gave me the entire story.

Though I hate to admit it Danilo is a great actor. He brings out all the hate so much, that I even hate him as a person.☺

When Dan was giving an excuse to German was Ale motioning to Dan not to say the true story? I know I couldn't admit it and possibly risk losing that beautiful guy. Poor Ale.

Ann-NYC

Niecie- I wish this Padre was a bit more fiery like the Padre in Amor Bravio too, because Ale needs more pro-active support. Acacia is just too young to help her navigate all the legal and emotional minefields. He's way better and more sympathetic than he was the first time they met, but he still needs to step it up a few notches.

Ann-NYC- Alberto Estrella (Danilo) really is an extraordinary actor. You really can't take your eyes off him in his scenes. So much going on in his face, eyes, gestures. He embodies his characters.

Ann-NYC- Yes. Ale was shaking her head when it looked like Dan was about to spill just how he knows Ale. I'm sure she was scared he'd tell a skewed version of events. Ale just was not ready in that moment to have that conversation with German after what she had just been through with Danilo.

One good thing, hopefully, is that no matter how Danilo may spin the tale to German in the future, German will know he's lying. He's seen how terrified and repressed Ale is. And of course he's seen that knife scar.

Vivi, thanks for capturing this intense epi so well!
Agree Maggie, Ann-NYC, Vivi, excellent acting by both in the Danilo and Ale scene. Danilo (Estrella) conveys a lot with his eyes. Ale, pure terror.
So frustrating since Ale seemed resolved to tell German after the Padre encouraged her to speak up, and then this encounter.
La Malquerida, I thought the term referred to Acacia as the object of an "improper" [mal] love.
So interesting how Cris knows something is awry, but she has fixed on Acacia, as with being jealous about Acacia talking first to abuela about her relationship with Uli, and doubt stemming from Acacia's growing up apart from her.
Thanks again Vivi, also Mads and Gloria for all your work bringing it to life.
Much appreciated by this lurker.

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to say that I am really enjoying Watching Germannnn. Didnt think I could like anyone more than Seb Rulli. Norb gave him a hard time because he was artistic at young age. But really he is quite the catch. Sexy, artistic, soulful, protective, kind and so gentle. Ul is awesome too, but German "me llama mucho el atenncion". I will wait to read the recappers spin the episode with their gifted telling and the comments.that follow. Later!

Anon/Lurker- Thanks for commenting! Malquerida can refer to someone who is badly loved/mistreated, someone unloved/with a bad reputation (someone disliked by others), and also someone unlucky in love. It describes a few of our female characters, no?

Novella Lover- I have a real soft spot for Osvaldo de Leon ever since Una Familia con Suerte, and I'm especially loving him here as Big, Sweet and Sexy German. :)
