La Malquerida #30, 10/3/2014: Dueling Daddies and Mad Mamas

Mexico Episode #35

The Old: Cris realizes that Juliana is so excited about going to San Jacinto because that man (German’s bio-dad) is there. At the ceremony reception, Uli tearfully tells Acacia that if she leaves, this time he’s not coming after her.

The New:
Nuria is right there to grab Uli’s attention, and Esteban is right there to keep stoking Acacia’s ire. Like an overzealous basketball coach, he tells Acacia how well she’s done—demanding her respect and her proper place with Uli. Acacia is already starting to have doubts. It is true after all, that the Municipal President was the one who pressured them to get going and placed Nuria with Uli. Este dismisses all of that. When a man loves a woman, he does the impossible. Acacia still has doubts. “Do what you want, but don’t say later that I didn’t warn you.” Acacia tells him he’s right, and they leave.

Carmen sends Nuria away and talks to Uli. She tells him to wait till he’s calmed down to talk to Acacia, but for now, he needs to concentrate on his event/work.

At the hospital, Cris and German talk. She updates him on the Acacia-Uli problems. German knows how important this day was to the both of them and asks if he can help. They talk about their art. German tells her about the paintings he sold to the renovated restaurant—Cris will go see them. Cris is planning on finally doing that exhibit of her photos. She asks German to join her, but he knows it will just cause additional fights with Norberto. Norbie can’t know that he’s still painting. Cris offers to speak to Norbie. German can’t continue to hide such an important part of himself—his calling/vocation. Cris loves the painting he did of Ale. They clam up when Norbie walks up.

At what should be the one of the happiest moments in his life, Ulises looks like he’s at his best friend’s funeral. He can barely hold back tears as he toasts their success. Elena is giving him attitude, and I hope seeing him so broken up will soften her view of him. JC doesn’t seem to be taking sides, but looks concerned. As does Carmen and Andres. Uli apologizes for being so sad, but sometimes there are circumstances bigger than ourselves that we can’t control. And in this case it’s something personal that really shouldn’t be affecting this event.

As the evening wears on, we see almost everyone at the event having success. Nuria continues to makes sales and get contracts. Arturo has managed to collect a ton of business cards from people who were impressed with the catering. After arguing a bit with Luisa about whether Uli was to blame for what happened with Acacia (Art’s on Uli’s side), Arturo points out that it really isn’t either of their business. Then he shows her the business cards—the evidence of the success of their first work together. He thinks they will continue to have success as business partners. Luisa is happy and excited about it too, and doesn’t look immune to the spontaneous hug Arturo gives her.

Dr. Andres seems preoccupied, and excuses himself from the event to take some books to the hospital in El Soto. He’ll be back for Carmen later. This gives Carmen a chance to try to sort out the Uli mess. She, and everyone else, has noticed Uli looking at the pic of him and Acacia on his phone and knocking back the tequila and wine, which Nuria keeps helpfully handing him. Carmen takes a tequila glass out of Uli’s hands, and tells him this isn’t the way to solve the problem. Uli says he feels like he’s losing his dignity in this relationship with Acacia. (Drinking and crying in front of your investors isn’t helping you much, dude.) Carmen advises him to buck up, look at things with a clearer head tomorrow, and is it really worth it to have “that girl”, Nuria, working with him? Uli thinks Nuria is great at her job, and it’s not fair to dismiss her just because Acacia is jealous. Nuria pulls him away to talk to some investors before Carmen can continue. Carmen offers to drive Uli home since he’s drunk, but Nuria kindly offers to do it. Carmen goes to help Arturo and Luisa clear up, and tells them that she thinks Luisa is right about that Nuria. The three of them watch as Uli gets drunk and Nuria latches on, like a train wreck you can’t look away from.

Most of the action is happening at the hospital tonight. Norberto and Juliana keep trying to guilt Cris and Acacia. Cris keeps fighting back. When Manuel wakes up after the skin graft surgery (injerto de piel) and is ready for visitors, Julie and Norbie argue over who should get to see him first, since Acacia isn’t there to fulfill her promise. Cris’ ears perk up when Julie says that Manuel doesn’t want to see Norberto. Why? Hmmm… Norbie says it’s just because he came down so hard on Manuel about running into the fire to save Acacia. When Julie goes to see Manuel, all he asks about is Acacia.

Luckily for him, Acacia has just arrived back at the hospital. Cris greets her with a hug, as smug Esteban hovers in the background. Este immediately jumps in with his version of events—Ulises was not understanding about why Acacia was late, AND he put that Nuria in Acacia’s place! Julie runs out and guilts Acacia into seeing Manuel immediately. Cris scolds Julie. It’s not right for her to make Acacia solely responsible for Manuel’s happiness! And it’s precisely because Acacia was sacrificing for Manuel that she arrived late to Uli’s event and they broke up. This is music to Julie’s ears, but she feigns regret and sadness. She asks German to get a coffee with her.

Manuel is all smiles when Acacia comes to see him. They reminisce about their childhood together and laugh about some of their adventures. He says the best thing that could have happened to him was renewing their friendship. Acacia asks him to treat Luisa better. The THREE of them have been friends since they were kids, and they all made that promise as kids that they would always be friends. Acacia wonders if it’s not possible for him to feel more for Luisa. Manuel points out that he can’t feel more than friendship for Luisa, just like Acacia can’t feel more than friendship for him. Manuel can tell Acacia's sad about something, but Acacia tells him it’s just the emotion of seeing him after the operation. She doesn’t go into details about Uli’s ceremony when he asks later.

Norbie and Esteban talk cotton business. Issues with unregulated cotton sales (this makes Norbie nervous), and genetically modified (transgénico) cotton. Esteban says he’s already spoken to the Municipal President about it. They’ve also called an emergency meeting of all the cotton growers in the Association. (Not sure why all this makes Norbie nervous, but I’m sure it will come into play later, so I’ve included it.)

In another corridor of the hospital, Andres, Juliana, and German come face to face. Everyone is all smiles. Juliana introduces Andres to German as an old friend whom she knew over 25 years ago in San Jacinto, then he went off to study in the U.S. She makes sure Andres doesn’t get the chance to say she came looking for him at his office recently. German says he looks familiar, and realizes he saw him at Cris and Este’s wedding. They shake hands politely, as Juliana looks on happily. Julie explains about her other son who is hospitalized.
A: So, you got married and have two sons?
J: Yes. And you? Are you married?

German offers to get them all coffee/tea and leaves them alone to catch up. Andres shakes his hand again and formally introduces himself. He tells Julie that she has a great son and congratulates her. “He’s my adoration…and Manuel too, of course.” Andres wants to know why she came looking for him, if she has such a perfect family. She lies and says she came looking for him to recommend a specialist for Manuel. He wants to know how she found him, and gives her a name of a doctor. She asks for his cell phone number, so that she can call him about the specialist. He refuses, and tells her to call his secretary at his OFFICE to make an appointment. (Way to go, Andres!) He reminds her that SHE dumped him 25 years ago because he was poor and said she never wanted to see him again. Julie says things have now changed. “Why? Because now I’m a well-known doctor? Because I’ve now become successful like I told you I would be one day? You left me when I needed you most, and showed me that money was more important to you.” Julie tries to sweet talk him, and puts her hand on his. He takes his hand away. Julie tries to take credit for the success he is now—because she pushed him to try to make a better future for himself. She wants them to forget the bitter past, and try to have a good friendship. “I’m not interested, Juliana.”

Juliana says there are things that Andres should know. “German is…” Andres doesn’t want to hear it. He insists there’s nothing he needs to know about her. She insists that she knows he still cares about her and that she’s the love of his life. (Arrogant much, Julie?) Andres says he’s happy and has a wonderful woman in his life now. “Out of respect for her, please, don’t come looking for me again.” He tries to leave and she grabs his arm, but his look of disdain is enough for her to let go. German returns with drinks for everyone. Andres politely takes his leave of both of them. Juliana begins to cry, making German wonder what’s wrong. She puts her hand to his face, once again appreciating his resemblance to his bio-dad.

Esteban and Norberto talk about Manuel. Esteban hopes this ordeal has matured Manuel. Norbie says he was already maturing and working at the Association when this tragic “accident” happened. He then uses the opportunity to twist the knife some more, by reminding Este that they promised to pay all the medical bills. Este complains to Cris about the costs, in addition to all their debts. Cris insists that they keep their word, especially since Manuel was injured trying to save Acacia. Cris is more worried that she wasn’t there for Acacia at the event when the world apparently ended when her boyfriend started a ceremony without her. (Can you tell I think these people are coddling Acacia WAY too much?) Anyway, Cris feels like the Abuelos or Este are always there for Acacia in her times of need, and it seems like Acacia cares about Este and his opinions, more than her (Cris). Este says everything good about Acacia (her strength, beauty and intelligence), she inherited from Cris. He offers to back off and put distance between himself and Acacia (yes, please!), but Cris doesn’t want that. But she can’t help feeling that she failed Acacia in some way. Este thinks Cris should just console Acacia and convince her that that jerk isn’t for her. Oh, he looks so pleased with himself.

Este tells Cris that Uli said he didn’t see any reason for them to continue with their relationship, and he’s sure it’s because he wants to start something with that Nuria. Acacia speaks to Cris about how hurt and humiliated she feels. Cris really can’t say whether Uli has something going with Nuria because she wasn’t there. But she’s starting to think that Este was right that Acacia and Uli have had way too many problems in their short relationship and they don’t have a future. But she also tells Acacia that she and Acacia’s dad had a few major fights before they got married, so she understands how Acacia feels like her world has ended. Cris tells Acacia that whatever she decides, she’ll support her.

Julie is begging German not to mention her encounter with Andres to Norbie. He gets so jealous. Speak of the devil! They run into Norbie, and he immediately senses something is off with Julie. He manhandles her a bit and demands to know what’s up. She says it’s because she and Cris argued about Acacia. Norbie advises that they ease up on the pressure for a bit. Julie lets him know Acacia broke up with Uli. They both can barely contain their glee. They see Acacia and wonder if she told Manuel. Norbie wants to go in right away to see Manuel. Julie says he doesn’t want to see him. “He has to. He’s my son. HE really IS my son.” Norbie acknowledges that German is a good son, who works hard on the hacienda, just as Norbie taught him. But for Manuel, he would do ANYTHING.

In Manuel’s hospital room, Manuel and Norbie argue again about Norbie being to blame for his condition. Norbie wants them to move on.
N: You’re my only son…
M: What do you mean I’m your only son?
N: I mean, the only son I can trust.
He says that German is a great guy and all and runs the farm well, but he (Norbie) and Manuel can do great things together—grow their family fortune (patrimonio)! And just how will they do that? By getting their hands on Benavente. Norbie tells Manuel that Acacia and Uli broke up. Oh, happy day for Manuel! He won’t waste the opportunity this time.

At the reception, everyone, except Uli and Nuria, has gone, but he’s still nursing a tequila glass and crying. His tie is askew and he's wobbly too. Nuria says she liked Acacia, until she saw how badly she treated Uli. She takes his hand. Uli takes his hand back and tells her NOT to badmouth Acacia, EVER! Nuria says it’s not fair for him to be working so hard, and yet Acacia is constantly making these jealousy scenes. She takes his hand again. If she were Acacia, she would have done everything possible to get here on time. Uli changes the subject to work. He wants to review and sign the contracts they secured tonight. She claims she doesn’t want to take advantage of him (yeah, right), so they’ll wait till he’s sober tomorrow to review and sign the contracts.

Rubio slimes up to German in the hospital corridor. He tells German that someone wants to buy the painting of Ale, and can he do another one. Considering the painting has only ever been in Ale’s bedrooms, German wants to know WHO wants it and HOW did they see it? As they’re arguing about this, Norberto hears. He grabs poor German by the shirt and pins him against the wall. Then starts getting verbally and physically abusive with German about hearing that he’s painting again. Clearly, this is not the first time this has happened, and despite the fact that he’s now larger and stronger than his father, German is paralyzed by fear.

German tries to say there’s nothing wrong with him painting. Norberto only cares that he disobeyed him. He’s about to strike German, when Dr. Andres walks by and sees. He runs up and demands to know what the heck Norbie is doing?!

In the town church, Alejandra has finally gone to see the Padre who was worried. He wonders if she told German. She says she didn’t want to burden him with something else, while his brother was having his operation. Padre says she needs to confront this head on, and wants to go with her right now to denounce Danilo. She tells him that she thinks Danilo might have gone legit and she wants to investigate. If he has, then it might be best for her to leave things as is. Padre says he can’t judge her for forgiving, as God forgives us all, nor force her to go to the police. But he reminds her that it doesn’t change what this man did to her in the past. He’ll be praying for her. He wants her to be careful and not to trust this man. He can still hurt her or the people she cares about.  Ale gets a determined look in her eyes and says mysteriously, “Don’t worry. Everyone I love will be ok. Danilo gave me his word.”

Back to dueling daddies…Norbie tells Andres to butt out because it’s not his business. Andres says it IS his business because he knows this young man.
A: No one has the right to mistreat a person like this.
N: He’s my son! I can do what I want.
He shoves German up against the wall again. Andres jumps right between them and makes Norbie let go of German. The two of them nearly come to blows, and German has to jump in between them to separate them and keep the fight from escalating. He thanks Andres for coming to his defense but says he has to work this out with his father. Andres asks if he’s sure. He tells German that even if Norbie is his father, no one has the right to treat him like that. He leaves.
N: Who was that idiot?!
G: Andres, friend…friend of…
N: I don’t care whose friend he is! If I see him again, he’ll know who I am!

In the parking lot, Andres remembers when he gave Julie a portrait he had painted of her. She loved it, but also questioned how they were going to live on an artist’s salary.

Juliana makes nice to Cris and Acacia and apologizes for her attitude. Rubio interrupts, but Cris says she’ not ready to return to the hacienda yet. Acacia seems to get an idea. Rubio next tells Esteban about the dustup he caused between German and Norbie.  In fact, Norbie is still scolding German and pushing him around the hospital corridors. He calls painting a thing for dreamers. Then insults German by saying he can’t even compete with any of the other artists in El Soto who actually have talent because he had no formal training. German points out that Norbie was the one who forbade him from getting formal training. “I’d rather die than see a Palacios doing such a sissy thing! Listen to me, I will never forgive you for lying to me!” “You forced me to, Papa.” Norbie demands that he quit painting and is ticked off that he made him look ridiculous in front of that peon, Rubio. German tells him about the painting of Ale Rubio was asking about. “What? I can’t even do a painting of my girlfriend now?!”
N: It’s the LAST one you’ll do!
G: Why? Why?!
N: You ARE NOT my son!
Cara impactada de German!
G: What do you mean I’m not…?
N: You are NOT my son! And right now you’re going to learn.
G: You’re going to disown me as your son? Just because I like to paint, Papa?
N: No, no, no. It’s not because of that. (He starts to calm down.) Because of your disobedience.

German points out how unfair Norberto is being, considering how hard he works on the farm and in the Association. Este walks up and asks what’s going on. German tells him that Norbie won’t even allow him to paint as a hobby (pasatiempo), and he doesn’t know why. German walks off angrily.  Este tells Norbie that’s he’s going overboard and points out that German is a hardworking good kid. Norbie’s not listening. He orders Rubio to not pimp out his son’s art skills.

Julie catches Cris long enough to tell her that she ran into German’s bio-dad that evening. Este and Norbie interrupt. Norbie takes Julie for a coffee, and Este wants to go home with Cris. But, where’s Rubio and Acacia?

We see Nuria’s red SUV pull up to Uli’s house. She helps him up the stairs, and open his door, since he’s too drunk to get the key in. She offers to come in and make him a strong coffee. He refuses and tells her to go home. Just then, another SUV drives up to Uli’s house. It’s Rubio and Acacia. Acacia sees Uli and Nuria enter his house. She gets out of the car and takes some deep breaths before going in.

Avances: Acacia stands on Uli’s porch, looking in the window, and sees Nuria take Uli’s hand. Acacia hugs Esteban and tells him he was right about everything. Cris and Este argue about Acacia, and Cris tells him that SHE’S the one who will take charge of Acacia!

Vivi, so looking forward to your recap!

Things are really on a downward spiral on all fronts. We are repulsed, yet riveted.

The Andres/Norberto clash was riveting. But I will wait for you to sort out all the details as I will need to hear pivotal dialog between Norberto and German before I comment further. While I could never loathe anyone as much as Danilo, Norberto is reprehensible.

Diana

I'm so glad Acacia decided to go see Uli and Este gave one of his creepy looks. I was glad for that but miserable when she saw Uli and Nuria go into his apartment.

Can't wait for your recap and your all knowing thoughts on what's going on.

Ann-NYC

The recap is up! Sorry it took so long, but I kept getting interrupted and there was a lot of drama in this episode. Enjoy!

Well, at least this was a Danilo-free episode! But a tough night for most of our characters. Uli is going to pay dearly for letting the Devil in a Blue Dress into his house. Who's going to believe it was all innocent (on his part)?

I love that Andres wouldn't give Julie the time of day, but was so caring and concerned for German. I guess we know now that Andres and Norbie never met 25 years ago.

I hated seeing German so cowed by Norbie, but it just shows he's endured a lifetime of abuse by that man. Has he now had enough?

I wanted to smack Este in his smug face when they arrived at the hospital. Ugh! I hate that Acacia is going to think he was right all along.

Thanks for the recap, Vivi! What an episode it was!

As soon as Andres told Carmen that he had to go to the hospital I was like "Oh no. This won't be good". I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Juliana wants to be "friends" with Andres. I can't believe she tried to take the credit for him bettering himself by telling him that she was the one that pushed him to work harder. I hope that once German finds out the truth he will take Andres' side. I'm surprised though that Juliana was going to tell Andres the truth right away and that Norbie almost spilled the beans to German too.

I feel sorry for German that Norbie treats him the way he does. But unfortunately that's Juliana's fault.

I'm getting the feeling Nuria will cause more trouble than just the Uli/Acacia situation. I think she has other tricks up her sleeve. We shall see what happens.

Why does Esteban look like the painting "The Scream" when he's (the actor) trying to look dramatic? UGH!

Vivi, your intense focus and finely tuned penchant for noting every small detail was exceptional. You captured all of the suspense, clashes and heartbreaking conversations masterfully.

"Back to dueling daddies" and "Drinking and crying in front of your investors isn’t helping you much, dude" were among my favorites.

The ceremony deteriorated to the point where every heartbreak, argument and sentiment was laid bare for all to see. Ulises dissoving in tears, Acacia's anger and misplaced hurt, Esteban and Nuria aiding and abetting the emotional wounds Acacia and Ulises were inflicting on eah other was beyond distressing.

"I’d rather die than see a Palacios doing such a sissy thing!" Is it not enough that Norberto is a murderous, abusive, lying and conniving vulture? Let's add uncultured to the list as well.

I wanted German to pummel Norberto, but German is kinder than I. Seeing the hurt and pain mirrored in his face, I did not think that fighting back even occurred to him.

“I’m not interested, Juliana.” I was thrilled he rebuffed Juliana yet ran to the aid of German. I suspect he will be thrilled that German is his son but I don't think that will change his mind about Juliana. Let us hope.

The vitrolic look Rubio shot Norberto was not lost on me. I suspect he will find a way to retaliate for Norberto and Julie's treatment of Luisa. And, I kind of hope he succeeds.

"Luisa is happy and excited about it too, and doesn’t look immune to the spontaneous hug Arturo gives her". She certainly didn't. One of the evening's only bright events. I have high hopes for this couple.

I'm so worried about Ale and German - their relatioship and Danilo's threats, I can't muster up too much sympathy for Acacia right now.

It looks as though Acacia does the right thing by going to Ulises, but does she just spy, come to the wrong conclustion and leave?

Perhaps it's best. I think Ulises deserves better. And I don't mean Nuria. Someone else, whoever that is. And TF, I agree. Nuria is trouble. Big trouble. Let's see if we are righjt.

Vivi, thank you for another spectacular recap.

Diana

Vivi, your recap was just wonderful!! Thanks so much. I relived the story over again even though it was stressful.

Can't wait for Monday.

Ann-NYC

Thanks, Vivi, for yet another terrific recap. I appreciate your time and effort.

How far is Este's obsession with Acacia going to go b People are going to start to notice that he is not acting in a stepfather,y way but rather like a jealous lover. Ewww Poor Chris is going to be devastated when she finds out that her husband has fallen in love b lust b with her daughter.. Ugh

Vivi – Great title, terrific recap. Appreciate the vocab bonus. Thanks again for helping out Madelaine and Gloria.

After all the coddling baby Acacia’s been getting, she showed a lot of courage deciding on her own to go back that night to see Uli. Got my fingers crossed that she sticks around to talk to Uli, rather than running off and assuming the worst. Uli, please don’t boink Nuria. If you do, Este will never let Acacia forget about it. Uli looks glassy-eyed drunk and not able to consent to anything. If Nuria wants him in that state, she’s a dolt.

The scene with Norberto being chastised by Andres for getting rough with German must’ve been tough to set up since German towers over both men.

Ale sounded like she's losing it, saying that maybe Danilo has changed and that he gave her his word. Doesn’t she remember that big knife he stuck in her face the night before? Or the cane he threw at her back?

Vivi---An excellent recap but even your, as you say bullet points recaps are excellent. You're fantastic.

I can't stand stalker Este, I'm really upset with jump to conclusions spoiled Acacia, Julie needs an anvil like now as does tough guy hot headed Norberto. Alejandra thinks that devilDan has gone legitimate and won't turn him in and Nuria is loose and running wild. Can anything else go wrong I ask?

I did notice the Arturo/Luisa hug and I loved it. I think that Luisa liked it too but she's not showing it yet.

More trouble and bad news for Monday? It looks like it. I won't be happy about it all but will be in my front row seat as usual.
the gringo

Gringo, I'm wondering if Ale told the Padre that Danilo has gone legitimate to avoid having to do anything about the problem and to also get the Padre off her back. This because she's scared.

Ann-NYC

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. It has been my pleasure guest recapping for you this week. I believe Gloria will be back Monday, and I’m hoping that Mads will be healthy again and providing us her wonderful recaps for us all over the blog next week. Despite how stressful the personal dramas of these characters are, I’m really enjoying watching it all unfold, and especially reading everyone’s thoughts about these characters.

TF- I was really worried when Andres went to the hospital too. Whenever Julie gets mentioned he becomes distracted and agitated, and that’s what happened when Uli said she was at the hospital. So I was totally surprised when he was so firm with rebuffing her advances. I thought for sure we’d see him cave. It seemed like he just needed to get 25 years-worth of anger off his chest. Of course he did it in a polite and classy way. I don’t believe for one minute that Julie has given up though, and she still has the German surprise.

Diana- Yes. The Luisa-Arturo hug was the only bright spot this episode. And I loved it! You are so right that Acacia DOES do the right thing by going to speak to Uli. Unfortunately, it’s just going to make everything worse. ITA. Uli needs to date someone more mature and less self-centered, but NOT that leech Nuria!

Ann-NYC- The stress levels sure are being ramped up for most of our characters (and for us by default). But I can’t look away. :)

Susanlynn- Yeah, just when will someone besides Rubio start to see Este’s “concern” for Acacia for what it is? Unfortunately, they are ALL too involved in Acacia’s love life, so it seems like Este is just one more person trying to protect their baby girl.

Niecie and Gringo- Like Ann-NYC, I also believe Ale was saying that stuff to get Padre off her back. Last episode she made a decision to do something when she was praying. We don’t know what it is yet, but whatever she’s decided to do, it all about trying to keep German and her friends safe. It’s precisely because she knows Danilo is dangerous that she’s made whatever decision she’s made—not because she thinks Dan has changed.

Niecie- I found the scene between German, Norberto, and then Andres interesting too, because as you pointed out, German towers over them both and is clearly stronger than them both. Clearly he was able to physically restrain both men when they went after each other.

Diana- German is indeed too nice and respectful to have fought back with his father. I also think it just has a lot to do with being used to being treated like this by his father since he was a child (he has a scar too, from one of these altercations with Norbie). But I think one day soon he'll reach his limit and he'll put a stop to it. And given his size and strength, Norbie won't be able to do a damn thing about it. I can't wait to see that happen.

Vivi, I didn't realize that German has a scar from Norberto's abuse. Was it from the time he found him painting?

I'm likely reading too much into this but perhaps once all of Ale's abuse comes to light, the scars German and Ale have may serve to remind them they were victims and prove to unite them and bring them together in a healing process.

Niecie and gringo, Ale's twisted logic regarding Danilo is inexplicable. But, she appeared to be muttering to herself in one recent scene which really concerned me. Is she trying to delude herself he has really changed or does she have a plan in mind. If so, she has no chance of success if she is trying to outwit Danilo by herself. She escaped with her life once, I fear she may not be so lucky next time.

Diana

Diana- Yes. German revealed the scar on his arm to Ale and told her the story of how he got it when Norberto came after him for painting when he was a kid, after he saw her scar. It was back when Uni was slicing and dicing so that bit of the scene was cut. There are many emotional scars that Ale and German share. Perhaps that's what first drew them to each other, without them even realizing it.

Well, my comment disappeared , so I will try again. I remember a sermon in which the minister said "God will know you by your scars." Our scars allow us to feel compassionate and empathetic towards each other.

Madelaine---It's been three days now I think. I hope you are feeling MUCH better. I have never had the flu but I have heard that it really knocks you down. I hope you be back to your normal self soon.

OH NO! Alejandra has a Danilo plan
I hope that it is not to play nice
and go along with him to keep him happy and so to keep German safe. I don't want that basura to ever touch her again. She doesn't realize how ruthless DanEvil is.

I was surprised to hear the G in German pronounced like an H, Herman in Fridays show. I also noticed that the J in Juliana didn't sound the way we Americans would pronounce it. Juliana sounded like Who-liana to me. Is my hearing getting bad? Am I hearing things wrong?
the gringo

Gringo,

The Spanish language obviously has different pronunciations than the English language. The way you say the letter G is like "heh". The letter J in Spanish is "jota" but it's pronounced with an H sound. If one was to say "Juliana" in the English pronunciation it'd probably sound like "Jew-liana". So no you're not hearing things wrong. It's just the language.

--TF

Thanks TF, I thought I was loosing
it, my hearing or something.
the gringo

Gringo- Yes, at the beginning of words and names in Spanish that start with g, j, and x, the sound is an h sound. German, Jesus, Geraldo, Ximena, Gema. The exception is g. If it's followed by a, r, or u, the sound changes. Gata, Gringo, Guadalupe. There are plenty of other rules to, but for the most part, far simpler and straight forward than English.

The only thing that confuses me about the Spanish language is the accentuation, especially when writing in Spanish. I do speak Spanish fluently and have Spanish speaking relatives and am able to carry a simple conversation in Spanish.

One thing about the episode I didn't mention before is that does Ale really believe Dan has changed or is she just trying to handle the situation on her own that way no one gets hurt? Again, I'll say the same thing but a little differently that Ale doesn't want anyone, especially not German, to pay for her mistakes. Again, even if she was forced into it. They might not be "mistakes" necessarily but that's how she views them. And although she wishes she could continue on with her new life, Dan will not let that happen and will do anything to have her back under his control.

--TF

I have another thought: after the German/Norbie/Andres scuffle Norbie asks who Andres was and German starts saying "a friend of....". He was probably about to say "my mom" but unbeknownst to him Norbie already knows. And even if he didn't he wouldn't have wanted to hear it anyway. Just the fact that he's not German's biological father makes him feel more of an authority figure and unfortunately he does treat German differently from Manuel.

Hola Amiguis,

I am on the mend, I will see you again on my Tuesday recap. I have missed you all so much. Everything has turned upxide down on this TN. Norbie really thinks he can have Benevente? Evryone at the Hacienda knows what NOrbie is all about and how he hates women running anything like they are stupid. And he is forgetting about Este who can't stand him. Rubio has a serious case of diarrhea of the lips. He needs to get a cork. Ale needs to tell German all of her past. I Know she worries about protecting those she loves but there are so mny people compared to one Dans. I wish Ale had taken that cane and whipped his other kneecap. Let him feel the wrath of Ale for a change.

Mads..so glad that you are feeling better.

Welcome back, Mads!

Susanlynn- I saw your comment, and then it disappeared!

Mads..so glad that you are feeling better..my comments are still disappearing.

This is a test. I am posting under anonymous instead of my name...susanlynn

Univision has been running bits and pieces of their novelas. It looks like stalker Este will get caught in his stalker ways or Acacia's hugs. Boy will he get it from Cris. That guy is skating on thin ice.

What will Acacia do tonight? Will she confront Nuria and finally fight for her love?

Must see TV tonight,

Madelaine - Happy to hear you're on the mend!

This morning I saw an LM ad announcing a new stage in the TN. Even though the ad has been aired, I felt like they showed me a spoiler. Don't want to spoil it for others, so that's all I'm saying.

Niecie,

I know already that the opening credits will eventually change as will the clips (I can't recall the name used here for them) that are shown as the show goes to and comes back from commercials BUT it'll be clips from episodes already shown. I know one of the short clips that will be shown before or after the commercials is when German runs to Ale's rescue when Dan has found her outside the church. But obviously most novelas do start new chapters and the ads and previews do indicate that.

Madelaine, ahhh, "I wish Ale had taken that cane and whipped his other kneecap. Let him feel the wrath of Ale for a change". If only!!

You are back! And so glad you are feeling better.

Ooh! Just saw the "nueva etapa" ad. Looks exciting!

Anon 6:53- Those scenes/snippets right before and after commercials are called bumpers. Sometimes they are lifted directly from scenes already shown or to come, at times just slow-mo of the upcoming scene, or sometimes just an interpretation of plot points to come.

Vivi,

Yes you're correct. By the way that was me, TF, who posted that. I remember Mentir Para Vivir revealed major spoilers with the bumpers. Also, I remember, if anyone watched La Fea Mas Bella, that LFMB also supposedly showed major spoilers in the second version of the opening credits seen here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=47IV4ccyXwI. However, none of those scenes actually took place in the TN.
