La Gata #26 10/06/2014 Miss Kitty goes to the ball
Esmeralda and her daddy (Fernando) who she still does not know is one half of her parental unit arrive at the ball and Kitty cat looks good! She manages to get the attention of several of the guests, all of them stunned by her beauty.
Shoe update:she is not wearing boots!
Anyhoo, among the guests are Lorenza and her children along with her husband-you remember him right? He is the one that gets off on stealing other peoples property and framing innocent people. We will get back to him later, oh and Monica is also there, poor girl, will her public humiliation never end? Will she learn to just say "no" to Pablo and run off to a place where it's okay to wear red shoes that look like crocs in public? Am I asking for too much? (Yes, yes I am, but I can hope,no?)
Mariano is the first to spot Esmeralda (aka: Miss Kitty) and he points her out to his mother, he has enough avocados to actually comment on how beautiful Esmeralda looks in front of his mother and enough grace to actually say that he is happy for her. Can you imagine Pablo having enough grace and character to say such a thing? Of course not because the only thing that matters to Pablo is well, Pablo. Whatever the case may be I'm now a Mariano fan.
Lorenza is not happy for Esmeralda and makes it her mission to tell every one at the gala that Esmeralda is gutter trash (her words, not mine!), like a snake she slithers around spreading her venom, she makes the mistake of telling the ambassadors wife (the ones throwing the party and those who invited Fernando and Esmeralda there) the same story, but this time Fernando catches her and tells her that she needs to stop spreading gossip, or else. She makes the mistake of asking what the "or else" is and she gets put in her place. In short Fernando tells her who he really is and that her family will be sorry for all the crap they have pulled. Lorenza calls his bluff and tells him she is not alone, she has a husband and two sons to protect her! Fernando tells her to call them over and maybe the would like to hear what he has to say, Lorenza finds Agustin and tells him that Fernando wants to speak to him, in the end it's the same conversation Fernando had with Lorenza, he promises to get revenge and to expose Agustin as a liar and a thief and an all around criminal, Agustin says he is not scared but it is revealed to us that his conversation with Fer upset him enough to almost give him a heart attack ( a well deserved one!)
While this is taking place Esmeralda is on the dance floor, as is Pablo along with Monica and when Esme tries to say hello to him he treats her rather harshly and tells her that they have never been friends. He is enough of a jerk that the French ambassador has to tell him to behave. Later Esme bumps into Virginia and the two bond with Virginia suggesting Esme take Pablo away so that they can talk and resolve their issues. Pablo arrives, is again a jerk to Esme and when it looks like there will be another physical fight Fernando arrives and takes Kitty away.
The next morning Lorenza wakes up and realizes that Agustin is nowhere to be found, he comes in looking like death warmed over and he explains that his worse fears have come to pass, Fernando has made a formal accusation against him and it's only a matter of time until their life comes crashing down around them. Lorenzas suggestion? Throw Kitty and Fer in jail for a good 20 years. Agustin says this wont work, Fernando is not the same trusting man he once was, Lorenza finally looks worried.
Felas tale:
Okay, Fela after seeing Rita runs away in fear, and can anyone blame her? Rita looks like the crypt keeper but worse. However after thinking about this for a bit I have a few points I'd like to make, follow me dear friends:
- At some point Rita had some sort of relationship with Fela, she has spoken of Fela as if she were a dear friend, however:
- Rita was somehow involved in harm being done to Fela, did someone pay her off to look the other way while an attempt on Felas life was made?
- Why did they try to kill Fela? Was it simply to get their hands on Fernandos money?

My comments:
1. While they put nice heels on Miss Kitty, it looked like Mariano's dress pants ended two inches above his ankles. Probably thought we wouldn't notice.
2. Monica looked ten years older with that horrible hairdo and blah blue dress.
3. What happened to the little black and white kittens at the Mansion of Martinez-Negrete?
4. Could that ambassador's party have been any more boring? Party guests moved around in a trance like the Stepford Wives.
5. In the flashback of Hooded Guy taking Blanca's baby, that chin looked familiar....say, I think that was Augie's chin under that hood!
That's all I got, except I'd gladly give up my weekends not to have to go two days without La Gata.

Poor Fela! Let's get her in protective custody ASAP. Along with her doll, of course.
Sorry I missed Mariano in high water pants. Why won't Lowrentza listen to her hubby Augie when he tells her to leave well enough alone and not stir up more mess? She is coming across as even more stupid than Pablo.
I thought I got just a glimpse of Gata's shoes, but I couldn't tell much about them. It did look as though they weren't platforms, though.
Gringo, I figured out why I haven't seen much about the jewelry you notice so much: 1) I never notice jewelry anyway, and 2) I have a hearing problem, so I'm always reading the CC's, and thus miss a lot of the visual stuff. I did notice that Gata wasn't wearing a necklace. What does that signify?
J in Oregon, I too thought the younger jaw and mustache seen under the hood of the kidnaper looked a lot like Augie.
Our dear Virginia just keeps up her sweet demeanor, doesn't she. I continue to think that her blindness helps her to "see" better than anyone else in the room.
David
I had to interrupt my reading to single out this line.
At this point I want Kitty with Mariano more than anyone else. I hope those two fall in love. I am definitely at the Mariano table!
Pablo was the biggest jerk who jerked last night. What an a$$.
Virginia and Esmeralda are so cute together and I'm glad Esme didn't lump her in with the other M-Ns. I loved Virginia calling her cuñada.
And thank you so much for your thoughts on Rita. I am more confused than ever about the Rita/Fela/Baby happenings. The hooded figure did look like Augie (I saw a hint of moustache) and Rita was clearly at the house before. But neither seemed to recognize each other when they were playing their "keep them apart" game.
I would think Augie would have been more in a panic if he knew Pablo had fallen in love with FDLSC's kidnapped daughter.
Maria broke my heart last night. She was so upset about losing Fela.
Can't wait for tonight! Must see TV!
"Will she learn to just say "no" to Pablo and run off to a place where it's okay to wear red shoes that look like crocs in public?"
"Rita looks like the crypt keeper but worse."
Rita - I swear to you I don't always look like this
Monica - Taylor Swift is everywhere
Pablo - I'm running out of derogatory comments
Lorenza - bull in a china shop
The Jaw - if you knew what I know
Fernando - Hereeeee's Johnny
Fela - how hard could it be to find a crazy with a doll in a city of 21mm
Virginia - détente
Esmeralda - steel toe boots next time, that Frenchie was all over my feet
I also watch with captions so I miss some finer details like pants and shoes. However, I've learned not to delete the episode immediately after viewing just in case I want to go back and check something out. I'd like to see Mariano's pants. I remember when the shorter length was in vogue. (worn years ago by Miles Davis the jazz musician).
I also think that Lorenza is not aware of the extent of Auzies crimes. But she has certainly put herself in a position to suffer the consequences just as much as Ausie.
I'm also a Mariano fan and hope that he won't be included in the vengeance plan. I'm not wishing for him to hook up with Esme though. I don't think he'd be comfortable with his brother's girl. Neither do I think Esme could love him the way she loves (and hates) Pablo.
Missy-I'm the opposite. I think Lowrenza is TOTALLY aware of Augie's crimes. I think she put him up to it.
On a Lowrenza note, she was completely tacky wanting to badmouth Esme. She's showing her upbringing. I'm more and more convinced that she was born in the dump.
Caroline: I LOL'd at your "This galan is such a tool" quip.
Lord, I would have been SO bored at that party! I don't blame Esme for wanting to leave. The best part was Esme and Virginia connecting. Wish it cold have been a little longer before Pablow showed up to ruin the moment. Does Virginia know about the babies? She and Carlos need to add Esme and Pablo to their agenda items next time they meet so that they can share notes on how it all went down.
I don't really understand Pablo's plan for seducing Esme. Why? They already played tongue hockey in front of an arena full of people, so he knows the passion is still there. The only person he's going to end up hurting is his fiance, who needs to get some pride and dump his butt.
The Fela flashback looked like Ughie to me in that hood and dark mustache. The house was definitely the same house.
I'm not sure why Ughie wouldn't recognize Rita and realize that Gata must be the baby he stole. But none of these people is very good at facial recognition and relationship association it seems.
Miss kitty was gorgeous.
I thought Monica looked lovely. She seems about ten years older than Pablo, and she is physically the "anti -Gata", but still lovely. Maybe she and Mariano can get together. We should invite her to the Mariano table on the patio, buy her a drink and try to talk some sense into her.
Here are a couple things that are bothering me. In the first or second episodes I thought that the Martinez Negretes discussed the fact that they had changed their name and moved away and that Silencioso could never find them. They were so worried that they discussed leaving the country if he got out of prison. Now we see that they moved into his old house? That doesn't seem like hiding to me. And El Silencioso moved next door to his old house without mentioning it? I thought he was surprised when he learned the MN s were living next door. what am I not understanding?
Also, I didn't get that there was a plot to kill Blanca. I thought everyone thought she died after an illness. No?
I must say that fight at the rodeo last week was one of the best things EVER. My favorite parts were when Gata started to come up in the stands after Monica, when the crowd collectively approved the kiss, and of course, the horses!
Thanks again!
Eli, I enjoyed---Agustin comes in looking like death warmed over.
and after seeing Rita, Fela runs away in fear. Rita looks like the crypt keeper but worse.
A few of my thoughts that I wrote down as I was watching last night
I thought that it was so funny, I had to laugh. Did anyone notice that the show went from the French Ambassador dancing with Esmeralda to Meatball making Pizza's and looking at Esme's picture. What a contrast.
I was hoping that Mariano would have asked Esmeralda to dance but it didn't happen, he just briefly talked to her.
If Monica had any ego, she had to have lost most of it by now.
Fernando looked very certain and determined while Augie looked angry and scared.
Did you guys notice Lorenza's GIANT eight stone opal necklace?
Oh my gosh, it was big enough to sink a small boat. Five large stones on the first strand with another three large stones on a second strand. A little overdone,
gaudy I would say.
David if you have any way of going back you should see it.
J in Oregon---If you recognize a chin, you're good.
And yes J I agree that weekends are long without Gata.

The Mwuaa-haaa-haaaa guy in the hood was clearly stealing the baby. Much earlier in the show we learned that after Fernando was (falsely) arrested and dragged off to prison, Blanca went into a mental and physical decline but still had the baby. They have referred to Blanca as a humble girl who married a rich guy (Fern). But, when Chin Guy stole her baby, they were both in the (now) Martinez-Negrete mansion.
And yes, LN: in the very first epi, Augie and Lorenza were so terrified about their nemesis breaking out of jail and coming after them that Lorenza wanted to get on a plane and flee to Europe. Surely in order to be that terrified, she would have had to know about Augie's dirty dealings.
By the way, I wonder if we will see Rita's grandson, the actual prison break guy? Or will he just go down in the sea as another red herring?

racing to type on my short lunch hour
Add me to the chorus of those who said the party was BORING! The most exciting part was Esme talking to Virginia. If only she'd talked her into running off into the night with Pablo to settle their differences.
Didn't Lorenza have a blue/green version of that same necklace?
That whole flashback scene raised more questions than it answered. I'm more inclined to think that the Negretes merely took advantage of a situation rather than engineered it. I mean, they're pretty crappy at being bad guys. "Just have them thrown in jail!" Really, Lorenza? What planet are you living on? I don't know what prompted Augie's friend (if he really even was one) to go after Fernando in the first place, but I think once Fernando had killed him in self-defense that's when Augie and Lorenza started thinking about how they could take advantage of that to get their hands on Fer's money. Blanca and Renata/Esme were obvious complications. I would agree that it's possible that something was done to Blanca...poison, perhaps?...but she also could have literally gotten sick from grief and they just swooped in and took Esme, thinking that it would drive Blanca to her death and keep them from having to deal with Fernando's heir. See? Lousy bad guys! You can't leave a loose end like that! Same thing with Fernando--they just assumed he'd die in prison. Fail! As for Blanca, I'm betting she was sick enough to be weak, but not so sick that having her baby taken from her didn't motivate her. I'm betting she wandered away from the house, searching for her, and Augie and Lorenza just said "Oh, Blanca's gone? Meh. She'll probably die out there anyway. We'll just tell everyone she's dead." Even Fernando didn't think she was going to survive her grief and can't imagine her being alive now. Still...there has to be something more. Why is Rita so much more worried now that she knows Blanca is alive? Why did Augie and Rita never say anything about having known each other before? Was a crappy Halloween cloak enough for Rita not to recognize him? Wouldn't he be upset at knowing exactly where to find Rita after twenty years, when he'd told her to make the baby disappear? Who's the "partner" that Fernando keeps referring to when he's accusing Augie? Does he mean Lorenza? Was there some other shady lawyer or judge involved? I mean, just because Fernando killed somebody wouldn't mean that he wouldn't get to keep all his assets, would it?
Anyway, thank you again, Eli. I can't stress too much how grateful I am. Clearly, you joined us at just the right time! Here it is, 2pm on Tuesday and I've barely gotten done watching the episode and reading the recap. Yesterday didn't go at all as I had planned!
