La Gata #25 10/3/14- La Gala
I had some questions...
- How long until Centavito and Fela get to live in the mansion? They deserve it.
- What the h*ll is Lowrenza's deal with Monica? She is obsessed with her marrying Pablo. It makes me want to puke.
- Why are we still being subjected to Rita's wrinkly face?
- Can Virginia look any more pitiful when Lowrenza is yelling at her? And am I the only one that thinks Lowrenza's crimes against her daughter are worse than her meddling with Pablo?
- WHAT KIND OF SHOES DID ESMERALDA HAVE ON AT THE GALA????
Now on to the recap.
Esme doesn't think she could ever be unforgettable. She's just La Gata. Fernando explains there are street cats and salon cats. And now she will be a salon cat. Don't you want the Sra Martinez Negrete to lower herself for you and beg to be friends?
Augie is investigating the neighbor. Ah ha! His name is Abel CRUZ. CRUZ??? That name! Could he be related to Santa Cruz (not to be confused with Santa Claus.) Whoa. Whoa. Wait. That's la Gata's last name! Lorenza saw it on the marriage certificate! Could they be related? Could he be some millionaire uncle? So many questions so few answers!
Fernando swears Pablo will not marry Monica. Esme has lines about never being accepted by the M-N's. Fernando has his lines about the M-N's falling on their knees before La Gata. He throws in his required lines about his venganza. Esme reminds him that she's not about the venganza. Fernando recognizes her goodness...but throws the babies into the argument. What about giving them a name? She doesn't want to be reminded. Fernando explains that she has to help him.
Pablo is hungover and Mariano knows his borrachera was because of Esme. Pablo needs to quit whining if he's not going to clear things up with Esme. Less kvetching, more action. Mariano heads off to his tennis date with Monica. Pablo thinks Mariano is right. He needs to talk to Esme. Alas, it is but a fleeting thought. He dismisses it almost instantly. He will not be a puppet in her hands!!! (Guess he prefers his mommy's puppetry.)
Fernando reminds La Gata that she is no longer desamparada (drink! Oh, wrong show!) She thanks him and we segue into posture and etiquette lessons. Unlike Maricruz, Esme seems very eager and willing to learn...and grateful to her teacher!!! Fernando's voiceover explains that on the inside, Esme is way better than those people. She has a kind and generous soul without an ounce of dobleces (deceitfulness, duplicity.) Yes, he wants his venganza against the M-Ns, but most of all he wants her happiness. Please trust him and know that everything he does is for her happiness and that of her children. (Ok. Screwing over the family of the children's father seems like a strange way to do that. I know, I know. They deserve it, but will Pablum Pan be able to handle it?)
Little black dress and red bootie montage cum theme song (which I LOVE!) Hugs from Fernando. Discomfort from Meche.
Reading lesson: Romulus and Remus? Twins! Just like my babies!
Cuisine lesson: No, no, no. That wine is all wrong for this salmon. Might I suggest a French wine? (Knowing nothing about wine, I cannot find out what "vino frances chemise" means. Maybe the CCs spelled "chemise" wrong?) Fernando is pleased with her progress. Those people are going to regret ever disgracing her. Meche looks on and panics.
Meche tries to warn Esme that all these expenses and lessons must be because Fernando wants to marry her. Esme tells her no way. they are like father and daughter. Someone tell Meche. Please.
Dorila digs for info from one of Fernando's staff. There is something weird going on in the house. Dorila thinks Gata and Fernando are lovers. The other maid doesn't think so, but there's this guy and a woman who is like his mom, but isn't. And Fernando is like Gata's dad, but isn't. Then there's that lady that's known Gata since she was a kid. She's never worked in such a casa enredada (convoluted/confusing) before.
Gata visits the dump. Gifts and hugs for everyone! Maria arrives and Gata asks about Fela. She wants the three of them to eat together. First she's going to see Rita (Why? Why do you still care? You're too good for your own good, Gata.)
Rita is busy trying to take Centavito's money. Money he's been saving to buy presents for Virginia. He works for Rita and he should give her EVERYTHING! She wants to maintain Ines like a queen so she doesn't keep going out with Garabato. (Gawd. Excuse me while I puke.) Centavito begs, and Rita tries to hit Centavito. Gata intervenes. Either Rita gives back the money, or Gata will stop bringing anything to Rita. Rita caves. Yay! Gata has a little power over Rita.
LowRent wants Pablo and Monica to attend some shindig for hosted by the French muckety-muck. Pablo doesn't want to go. LowRent says he has to alternar (mingle; socialize) with folks of his class. They can officially present Monica as his fiancee.
Gata is still yelling at Rita. Why is that money hers? Huh? Centavito is a good guy. What right does Rita have? They aren't even related. Rita warns her not to push her buttons (no me toques esa tecla.) Gata tells her not to be chocosa (not found in wordreference, but I found a yahoo answer that says "a female that rubs someone the wrong way.") Gata tells Rita she should use some of that energy to get Ines under control. She tried to talk to her, but since Rita only taught Ines to disrespect everyone she wouldn't listen to Gata. Rita is the only one that can get Ines to listen (*snort* I think Ines is too far gone.)
Pablo paints...and it's La Gata's face. This is not lost on Monica. Pablo had lines. Meh. Whatever. Not a painter. Painting a face from memory. Makes him an idiot, not a painter. NO, being a weak mamby pamby makes you an idiot.
Fela, Maria and Gata dine. Fela likes Gata's visits. Gata won't stop visiting. Rita barges in! Fela jumps up and declares Rita is bad and wants to know where her daughter is. Rita scrams. Fela tells Gata that Rita is mala and stole her baby!
Rita recognized Fela, too! It's Blanca! But Blanca died! The guy that gave her the child told her so! (So did Rita take the child or not? Anyone care to explain the Rita/Blanca connection to me. Rita must have known Blanca pre-Fernando. And they were clearly close enough for Blanca to have told her never to tell the child where her father was. Who was the guy? Not Augie. Wouldn't he have recognized Rita?)
Gata tries to calm Fela. Fela doesn't want to be left alone. She's afraid. Gata wants Maria to call if they need anything. Fela begs her to be careful with that old woman. She stole her hija!
The cards are telling Rita anything definitive. If that crazy woman is indeed her querida Blanca (yup. That's what she said), then the truth that's been hidden can be discovered and nothing will save her from rotting in jail! Gata interrupts her thought bubble to ask her to stay away from Fela. Rita's thought bubble assures us that is exactly what she WON'T do. She needs to find out if Fela and Blanca are the same people!
Carrrlos gives Virginia a tour of his world complete with street basket tacos. Awww! Virginia introduces Omar to the kids as her friend! She's so darn sweet.
Fernando gets an invite to the French muckety-muck Gala. He thinks this is the perfect chance to premiere the new Gata. Gata has misgivings. Meche does too. And she's worried people will think they're married! Fernando doesn't give a hoot. Esme is still scared and nervous, but she'll do what he asks. He says their venganza will begin tomorrow when the M-Ns see Esme. She's a little worried about them being there.
Lorenza. Tacos. Screeching. Can't take it. FF>>
Fernando and Esme have the same conversation they had at the top of the episode. He wants her to confront the M-Ns for what they've done to her and she wants no part of his venganza. Fernando knows just how to convince her. He asks if she's willing to give up Pablo. Does she want to see the father of her child and the only man she's ever loved marry someone else? He promises Pablo will beg her forgiveness and LowRent will want to be her friend. Gata doesn't believe it, but he tells her he's not offering anything he can't make good on, but she has to do her part.
Fela is throwing a party for her doll hija. Rita approaches, but Fela doesn't seem to recognize her. Rita calls her Blanca and asks if she recognizes her.
Gata agrees to go to the Gala, though she doubts Pablo will be there. He never really liked parties. Fernando thinks he will be. Gata thinks it will be quite a shock to the M-Ns to be in the same room with her at such a swank affair. Now she can't wait to go and have Pablo see the woman she's become!
Rita reminds Fela that she was with her after they took the marqués away. Fela asks why she took her child and Rita explains she had to. Who knew what that man would do to the child! Fela accuses her: I was sick, I begged them not to take my child, but they said they were giving the child to you. Where is my daughter? You were going to take care of her! Rita tells her she was going to die! Fela gets more agitated. Maria comes to calm her down and Rita says she doesn't owe explanations to anyone. Fela doesn't understand why no one believes her.
Rita is sure she'll be fine as long as Fela is nuts and no one believes her, but what happens if Fela recovers? Everything Gata and Fernando are doing for her will go down the drain (ir al caño. She needs to calm down and think carefully.
As Kat predicted, the great reveal was in the last 30 seconds, so I suspect Eli will have some great stuff to recap on Monday (and I can't wait!!!!!)
Anyhoo...here's a run down of the Gala so far
- Monica is introduced as the fiancee.
- Augie is praised by a government official as one of the most prestigious lawyers in the country and is reminded that he has a golf game pending with said official.
- Virginia wants to go home and so does Pablo.
- Monica wants to dance. Pablo doesn't. He puts on a hang-dog expression.
- LowRent shunts Virginia with her friends and keeps Mariano on a short leash.
- LowRent gushes over Monica and Pablo. She knows that deep down Pablo loves Monica. Mariano warns her that if they marry, a lot of people will be hurt...including her son.)
- Gata arrives and jaws drop. (I love her hair.)
- Mariano is happy for Esmeralda.

I'm wondering if Maite has had a boob job? I never remember her being so amply endowed.
And why does she lower her face and look up at people like a feline, eyes wide open? Is that part of her character for this Tn?
Anny-NYC

La diva---I don't understand. Didn't Virginia just eat tacos with Carlos?
A gringo side note. There are many great foods in the world. Some for the rich, high classed dishes---some for the middle classed people, many selections and everyday or poor peoples foods. I have eaten them all but the one that always makes me happy and I never get tired of them are tacos. The beef or pork with onions, lettuce, a slice of tomato, maybe some shredded cheese on top and/or a slice of avocado and I couldn't ask for anything more. Oh1 add some good salsa and WOW! YUMMMMM!!
Sara again---Why is Lorenza obsessed with a Monica Pablo marriage. It was brought out in a earlier episode that Monica is an only child and heir to her families large fortune Thru marriage at some point in the future, it will all be theirs, the Negrete's.
the gringo
Maybe Lorenza really isn't as high-class as she wants to make people believe and never letting the kids eat something as common as tacos was a way of distancing herself from her roots. Between that, her lack of including a maiden name in her letter to Silencioso, and her hatred of "poor" people that verges on fear, I'm starting to wonder if her attitude is all a cover.
Kat- I can't imagine a life with NO tacos. I'm becoming more convinced that she and Augie were maybe just middle class types that screwed over their supporter (Fernando) to take his money and position. It would not surprise me to find out that Augie was a super promising lawyer and Fernando took him under his wing only to be betrayed by him. I'm still thinking LowRent is the Lady Macbeth type. I wonder if she has blood on her hands, too. (Though there's been no hint of that.)
Ann-NYC: Maite is a head tilter. I saw similar looks on TdA. It just works better here. I think Maite has had some work done...but not recently that I know of. She has very skinny legs (not a criticism) and a very flat derriere (not a criticism) so the bust really stands out.) It must also be the dresses because she really didn't seem that busty up to this point.
J in Oregon-The red strappy boots were a little better...but they were still boots.
gringo- yeah. I guess LowRent is just obsessed with the fortune, but it gets annoying.
Anon220-Rita as LowRent's mama...I would LOVE to see that!
tofie- Ah the clomping Impostora. I miss that show.
I definitely agree that Esme is infinitely more likable than Maricruz. I think it's the Maite factor. I like Ana Brenda, but she doesn't come off as genuinely friendly as Maite does. Sorry gringo.
I agree with you that Lorenza's treatment of Virginia is worse than how she deals with Pablo because Pablo, being a sighted male can stand up and say, "You know what, Mom, that is BS!" And then he could walk away.
Virginia needs others to help her because she is blind, and thus more under Mommy Dearest's thumb.
However, I'll bet that at some point the person she goes to for support will no longer be her overbearing family, and at that point the break will be sudden and complete.
I'm hoping for a decent pair of shoes for Esme!!!!!
David
Like you, I have little knowledge of wine; my insight is limited to "This tastes good, that doesn't"
I love Augie's ever increasing discomfort and angst. All juxtaposed with his "social peers" telling what a wonderfully accomplished guy he is.
We didn't get to see Esme's shoes :( I want to talk about shoes, but I'll do it separately.
Gringo, re necklaces; I don't know what is wrong with me, but I rarely notice jewelry. I haven't noticed anyone's necklace at all.
Yeah, there is something fishy about Lorenza going ballistic over eating tacos. Like you, 5ft, I harbor a suspicion that Pablo's parents may not be the blue bloods that they like to project. For me, this would be fine: Make your mark in the world and accept the earned respect; don't try to ride through life on daddy's shoulders.
Thanks again, Sara, for a great start to the weekend.
David
"NO, being a weak mamby pamby makes you an idiot."
I can't figure the Rita, Blanca, mystery man time line or relationship either. Fernando goes to the pen, Blanca is sick, some mystery dude takes the baby to give to Rita (did Rita know both Fernando & Blanca) for safe keeping and promptly started using the kid for her own gain, believing Blanca died. Wonder when Blanca ended up in the dump as crazy Fela? What was Rita supposed to do or who did she work for or did she get paid by the mystery guy? Holy crap, I'm confused.
Esmeralda - will I keep these when I stop breastfeeding
Fernando Maid - let em be weird, I have dental and a 401K
Virginia - wait till you see me eat southern fried chicken
Carlos - relative to the money you have, these are not cheap dates
Pablo - quite right, an obsessive fantasy is very different than a vivid imagination
Mariano - damn, I'm doomed
Monica - got a jar full of bitter pills
Lorenza - ever wonder what the kids do when you're asleep
Rita - bet I could win a million bucks on "Survivor" Landfill
I vaguely get what Gata was saying about the wine, but I couldn't see anything about "chemise" in relation to wine when I looked on the Internet. I did see that a lot of wine experts are now recommending Pinot Noir with salmon because it's a "lighter" red wine, but since I'm not much of a fish eater maybe I'll just have to check out the wine by itself.
I don't know if Dorila just can't help herself or what, but her "mission" was supposed to be to get info out of Silencioso's staff, not to poison them against Gata.
Gata's hair was very Golden Age Hollywood with the red lip. I can't wait to see the rest of the dress...and the shoes...please, let them be shoes!
Things about the Rita/Blanca/Silencioso/Esme story that I think are true:
-Blanca was sick (because Rita, Blanca, and Silencioso all agree on this)
-Rita knew Blanca and had affection and admiration for her, calling her Mi Querida Blanca (because people don't usually lie to themselves in thought bubbles)
-Blanca asked Rita to take care of her baby (Rita and Blanca both agree on this)
-There was a man or multiple men who took the baby and gave it to Rita (again, Rita wouldn't lie to herself about this man and Blanca was also told by somebody that Rita had the baby)
-That man wasn't Augie (because Rita knows exactly who Augie is and at this point she'd probably gladly throw him under the bus to get in good with Silencioso)
Now, here's my question...Silencioso already knows all this stuff, so why is Rita now worried that if Blanca gets her memory back she'll end up in jail? I don't think it's that she's lying about anything, but there's something more to the story that only Blanca knows that's somehow going to change things.
I don't like platform high heeled shoes because they make it more likely that the wearer will twist her ankle.
Any platform that you stand on that is not wider than your foot is less stable than standing on the ground.
The most common orthopedic injury is a lateral ankle sprain.
The bony knob on the outside of your ankle that everyone calls the "ankle bone" is really the distal end of the fibula, and is called the "lateral malleolus." The real ankle bone, the bone that articulates with the tibia, is called the talus, and it is embedded so deeply in the ankle that you can't feel much of it.
There are three ligaments on the lateral side of the ankle that hold the ankle together: The anterior talofibular ligament goes forward from the lateral malleolus to the talus, and it is the smallest and weakest of the three; the calcaneofibular ligament goes downward from the lateral malleolus to a part of the heel bone (the calcaneus); and the posterior talofibular ligament that goes backward from the lateral malleolus to the talus.
When you point your toes downward, like when you step off a curb, go down stairs, or wear high heels, all the ligaments rotate backward, leaving only the anterior talofibular ligament (the weakest) to hold the ankle together.
Thus, platform shoes make it more likely you will twist your ankle, and the high heels ensure that when you do, you will do the maximum damage possible.
Ligaments are very tough, sometimes even tougher than the bone they attach to. So, sometimes instead of tearing the ligament, the force will rip the piece of bone off that the ligament was attached to (this is called an avulsion fracture).
You ladies do all kinds of things to look nice for guys, and we appreciate it. I just don't like women doing dangerous things in the name of looking nice.
There. That's my rant on shoes.
David
tofie-I love your line for Fernando's maid!
As for Rita/Blanca: I'm glad that we all seem to be in the same boat about the timeline and facts. This must be another mystery and all will eventually be revealed.
I have to admit that every day I am tempted to go looking on the internet to find out what's going to happen (since we are months behind Mexico.) I'm not very patient, but I think I'd rather be surprised and share it with the patio.
David-I am a Tom's, tennis shoes or socks kind of gal. I've never worn heels. The few times I did it was so painful I swore not to make a habit of it.
Again we had a case of someone "problem solving" at the bottom of a bottle. I swear Pablum is useless. The only plus I can give him right now is he sticks up for Virginia (but not enough to even ask about her while she was in Italy.)
I think the only person who could get Pablo to change his mind is his mother. She's going to have to be threatened or blackmailed into it. Even if Mariano tells Pablo the truth, I don't think Pablo would believe him at this point.
WOW!!! I'M REALLY IMPRESSED!!!
Years ago I wore platform shoes and went a trippin. I should have known all this before my fall.☺
Ann-NYC
Wow,.the things we learn here. David, that was some interesting info on feet. I used to wear spike heels, but now they would kill me. I wear a size five shoe , and Ckarks is one of the few shoe companies that makes size five. I love my Clarks. One of my favorite pairs is a pair of low platform black leather Clarks with a double strap. Because my feet are narrow, I can tighten both straps. I got them on sale for $20.00 , and I wear them to teach. I will be bummed when they finally wear out. They are very comfortable. I love Clarks, but Easy Spirit also makes size 5 , and I can get them for as little as $15.00 at a local outlet store. However, they are not as comfy as the more expensive Clarks.I love shoes,
I have to say that a young lady looks absolutely stunning in high heals. I would add however that with the angle that the foot is in while they are being worn looks
to be on the edge of torture. I sure wouldn't want to do that no matter what the reason would be.
Also that little tiny rod or piece that is the stiletto or the high heel looks to be very unsafe to walk on, an accident waiting to happen as you have pointed out.
We do not want to see our ladies hurt. If it were me, I would opt for some kind of a compromise---maybe a semi high heel. Let's keep the ladies safe and free from foot injury.
Could it be that Gata in combat boots is the better choice? Well,
maybe not to the ball.
That's my answer to David's expose'.
the gringo
Clearly, Maite Perroni was affecting the clumpy way of walking in combat boots as part of her character's upbringing.
(By the way, whoever mentioned
"Survivor Landfill", I'm still laughing about that one!)
J in Oregon
I also can't wear heels for very long before they hurt like crazy. But yesterday I was with a friend who wears heels ALL the time, including yesterday. She just had a baby less than a week ago, by c-section! She wore heels throughout her pregnancy. She is also under 5 feet tall, so I think she just loves being taller. :)
Can't wait to see the rest of Gata's outfit (and shoes), but I am digging the old Hollywood vibe we're getting so far with her gala look.
Don't these rich people parties always look so boring in these tns? I couldn't figure out what music Monica wanted to dance to. The elevator muzak playing in the background?
I love comfy Clark shoes, and it is one if the few companies that makes my size ...5. I used to wear heels ,mouth when you wear a 5 , you have a very small base in heels.
David, Doesn't the foot have lots of bones ? I had a friend who wore high heels every day and stood all day at work and ended up with dreadful bunions which required surgery..kind of takes the attraction out of heels.
There's one thing that bothers me about Silencio's vengeance plan. He has assured Esme that Pablo is going to come to her on bended knee. I'm assuming that he's insinuating that Pablo will find the new "hot" rich, Esme irresistible. Pablo fell in love with Esme from the dump who didn't have decent clothes or food. If she needed to be remade it seems to me it was more for Silencio than for Pablo. Even Mariano was attracted to her before any of the complete makeover was initiated.
David, thanks for the appreciated info on the foot. You are obviously in some type of sports medicine. You're probably like me and cringe when you see old ladies using a walker or cane while wearing flipflops. However, that's about the only time I notice footwear as I've never been a "shoe" person.
In my heyday 2" and 3" heels and platforms were popular. We referred to them as "dress shoes" although dress shoes also came with flat heels. Fortunately for me, the super high heels became popular a few generations after mine.
I also really liked the old Hollywood vibe that Esme's look invoked.
Missy-Hi! After the rodeo episode and my fear that I had already deleted it, I'm trying to be better about waiting before deleting.
I really liked your points about El Sil and the makeover maybe being more for his sake.
Is it Monday yet?
David---You need to start checking out Lorenza's necklaces.
Nearly everyone of them is making a statement.
Speaking of looks---what's with Pablo's hair? Check him out at the end of Friday nights show when he is at the French party. His hair looks to me like he just got off of the basketball court and didn't comb it yet.
La Diva---I am no wine expert but I do know just a little. Yes a good Pinot Noir is an excellent choice to go with salmon. The key
word is good. Like anything else,
there are good and not so good but if you get a good one, it's an excellent choice to pair with salmon.
The question was asked is Ines too far gone? That's one to ponder
Tofie---Your list is a complete crack-up.
Fernando's maid with dental and a 401k
Virginia eating southern fried chicken. I think Lorenza would have a heart attack with that one.
Lorenza---What are the kids doing when you're asleep?
Rita as a contestant on Survivor Landfill. Tofie---You're making people laugh all weekend long with that one.
Why does Maite hold her head down and look up with her eyes? I think that it is a special affect to give us the Gata/cat look. I love that look, it's so very well done. Not only does it give us the look of the cat but there is also a look of determination in those dark eyes. I love it--I just
love it.
the gringo
It was excellent, just excellent.
A few of your great lines for me were---Mariano says less kvetching, more action. The gringo adds that Mariano must have forgotten that he was talking to Pablo.
He will not be a puppet in her hands!! Then you added, guess he prefers his mommy's puppetry. LOL
Another good line was---Hugs from Fernando, discomfort from Meche.
Sara you said that Ana Brenda doesn't come off as genuinely friendly as Maite does. I think that it's just the way the script is written.
All that I can say is that Daniel
Arenas is one very lucky guy with
two goddesses and he gets paid for it. Heck, I'd take the job for free. Jealous? Well maybe just a little.
So Augie throws his champagne glass When Fernando talked to him towards the end of the show Friday night. Oh, the old Whisky,
wine, champagne toss that we see in almost every novela. I always feel sorry for the maid or the cleanup crew.
the gringo
I hope El Silencioso doesn't become unlikable!
We had the granddaughters for the weekend, and they just went home. I think I'll sleep well tonight.
Glad to hear that my shoe rant got some people thinking. Ann-NYC sorry you didn't get the info sooner, and I hope your tumble wasn't too serious.
Gringo, I don't know why I don't usually notice jewelry. But for the duration of this tn I will try to notice, and see if I can read what message is being hinted at.
5ft and tofie, I can understand why you use platforms; not being able to reach the floor when seated must be disconcerting.
Missy, no, I wasn't in sports medicine, but I've got a pretty good functional knowledge of foot and ankle anatomy, even after being retired for six years.
Vivi, I haven't seen a tn high class party that I would care to attend. I think I would just go in, get two free drinks and return home and watch a tn.
David
the gringo
I can't wait for 7PM. Go Maite!
