La Gata #50 Friday 11/7/14 La Visita

Here's a link to the latest entry in the La Gata soundtrack: Todo lo que soy. A duet with Alex Ubago.

On with the show:

Damian presents FDLSC with legal paperwork. The legal team wants to request that the courts freeze Augie's assets. Since they will be able to show that FDLSC is the real owner of the MN assets, a judge will most likely grant that. All they need to do is deposit some bond or fee or something (they used the word "fianza" so clearly not bail. I friggin' hate having to recap legal crap.) FDLSC tells Damian to proceed.

Mariano tries to make his father understand what is happening. He tried to warn his dad it could happen, but nooooo Augie just wanted to throw folks out of the dump. Augie realizes that FDLSC is not happy with just a jail sentence for Augie. He wants his financial ruin as well.

FDLSC explains this to Meche. She wonders if maybe FDLSC should show a little more compassion. Augie is in bad health. FDLSC reminds her that very little compassion was shown to him as he rotted in jail. He wants a clean name for his child and his grandchildren. A little poverty will be good for the MN. Noone's ever died from poverty. Um? Dude? Do you hear yourself? Anyhoo, he's not going to have any pity. That would mean a little forgiveness and that's not happening.

Esme comes to see Pablo at the hill, but there is no thrill. She admires his picture. Then we begin the nth iteration of the same dialog we've been seeing and recapping for months. They can't seem to discuss things with each other without arguing. He doesn't have faith in her. She doesn't have faith in him. They believe everyone else's lies. They never confront each other to get the truth. How could he believe she would marry the Meatball? They've blamed his parents, but the problem is with THEM. They aren't mature (got that right.) Pablo knows she still loves him, though. Her eyes give it away, even as her words say differently. It's true, she loves him as much as her eyes say, but she's as hurt as her words say. Gisela shows up to say that when folks love each other there's no hard feelings. Esme goes into jealous bitch mode. QTH? Does she even listen to herself? Here is the perfect opportunity to trust Pablo and NOT be moved by the green-eyed monster and what does she do? Act like a middle-school girl and get pissy.

Lorenza was the one that told Gisela about the hill. She hopes Gisela can divert Pablo's attention from la maldita Gata (drink!)

Pablo introduces Esme as the mother of his children, his muse, the woman whose love he's told Gisela so much about. Esme continues her pouty, jealous stupidity. Gisela assures her that her relationship with Pablo is professional. Esme tells Pablo to live his life the way he wants and she'll do the same. She stomps away. Her likability rating has gone way down with me.

Esme stomps around the dump. Jarocha asks what all the refunfunã is about (refunfuñar=grumble/gripe). Esme tells her about Pablo's admirer. Like Esme can't tell Gisela wants Pablo! She asks Jarocha what to do. Jarocha tells her to give Pablo a little hope. I would have said "stop being a bitch and take Pablo back. Let's wrap this up in 20 episodes, ok?"

Gisela calls Lorenza and assures her that while mamby pampy Monica couldn't get Pablo away from Esme, she WILL!

Esme wonders why she can't stop feeling jealous of Gisela. Why can't she let go of her anger and forgive him? How could she ever judge El Silenciso for not forgiving?

Mariano tells Pablo about the assets getting frozen. Pablo is not that upset. As soon as he found out how the MNs got their assets, he stopped thinking of them as theirs. He's going to earn his own money and help. Mariano scoffs at his offer and frankly so do I. I'm pretty sure Gisela was lying about that buyer and it's her money Pablo is spending. She's just hiding his paintings somewhere. No, Pablo, I still don't consider you financially independent. Mariano wants a little solidarity. It's not fair that after everything their parents have done for them: rob, steal, lie...that they should have to face justice alone and that no one show them a little mercy.

FDLSC reminds Damian to show no mercy. The fianza has been paid and everything is moving along as planned.

Garabato and his crew discuss robbing the MN house as a kind of revenge for the desalojo. The cantina guy who seems to be the big boss tells them to go ahead, but if things go wrong, he's no part of it. Ines tries to stand up to him reminding him they do the work and he just gets rich. Garabato tries to smooth things over.

Oy. Esme thought bubbles about her heart says she should be running to Pablo and making up and leaving all the anger behind, but OH! her head resists. I think Jarocha encourages her to go running to Pablo and give him a big ol' kiss.

Mariano has reviewed everything looking for anything that will restore the honorable image of his dad, but there's nothing. El Silenicoso's revenge will be to destroy Augie's name. Pablo agrees that will be his revenge: to destroy Augie's name in order to restore the honor of the De La Santa Cruz name. Mariano wonders what it will do to their poor (ha!) mother. She won't be able to survive poverty. Pablo thinks it's up to them to keep her from having to endure too many hardships. Mariano notes that losing her social position will destroy her. Pablo thinks they need to trust in God.

Virgina visits Carlos. He's sorry to talk bad about her parents, but what they did was wrong. When she finally gets to touch him she realizes he's been beat up. He didn't want to tell her because he doesn't want her to worry. He promises to get out of jail. Love talk.

Augie is the one who gets the last word. He gets his gun. Lorenza comes in and demands he give it to her. They struggle. It goes off!!!

We return from the commercial break to learn that sadly neither one of them are dead and we have not been put out of our misery. Lowrenza just has a flesh wound. Dorila comes to help, but is rudely dismissed. Lowrenza asks Augie why if he wants to put a bullet in his head can't he do it far away from the house. He tells her he intended to put a bullet in FDLSC's head. Lowrenza points out that would just put Augie in jail faster. He would rather be in jail than face the financial ruin FDLSC has planned. FDLSC may think he's won, but he's mistaken!!

Esme talks about how the Meatball saved her and it rapidly becomes a conversation about how the problem is not the Meatball and his lies, but that she and Pablo just don't communicate. What's worse is every day that passes, Esme feels like the rift between them grows and that their relationship can't be salvaged. You can do something about that, dumbass.

The Meatball in his parlor. Sorry. Recapper's privilege card is being invoked. I cannot stand listening to that man. Why Mrs. Latoodleoo insists on keeping him relevant is beyond me. He's going to come clean with La Gata about the hospital bills since it may help him win her over. If he fails though...he has a plan. That can't be good.

Pablo comes to see the babies. He wants to talk without arguing. Does he really think they can? Does she? Meatball walks by and sees them. He chickens out about admitting his lie. La Gata will be his though...even if it's by force. He turns to walk away and runs into Rita...

...Aaaand, apparently she's been given the script for episodes 1-15. She's now back to Team Meatball and she will talk to La Gata about him. What the hell? Where's the Rita from the hospital that recognized her wrongdoing? Meatball tells her he has a plan and needs her help.

Virginia brought food for Carrrlos. She's learning to cook. The guard comes to announce the end of visiting hours and Virginia asks for 5 more minutes. He grants her 2. She will wait for Carrlos at the house. Smoochies.

Gisela plans the next exhibit with Pablo. He says something about one of his paintings...the virgen?...whatever he says, Gisela takes it as a flirty comment and he sets her straight. He's in love with Esme. He belongs to her and always will. To his last drop of blood he will belong to her.

Rita reads the cards. Esme tells Jarocha she's going to Fela's house to see how Virginia's visit with Centavito went. Rita continues to moan about the cards. Bad stuff is a comin'. Sangre, sangre, sangre, rejas (blood, blood, blood, bars...as in prison bars...what the hell?) and more tears for Esme and for that love of hers someone or something will end up behind bars. She didn't use "estarÁS tras rejas" she said "estarÁ" so I don't know who or what it referred to. Any illumination would be welcome.

Carrlos wins friends and influences people with tacos. Virginia is a good cook.

Jarocha and Esme make fun of Rita's fortune telling. Rita tells Esme that Jarocha can make fun, but blood and bars are on the horizon. Esme is getting herself into debt with two men (se empeña con dos hombres) and someone will have to pay (Aw snap, and thinking about the previews I think I understand Meatball's plan.)

Augie can't stand waiting for the anvil to fall. Mariano told him the judge already gave his ruling. Why don't they just come and tell him already? Lowrenza thinks maybe they didn't freeze his assets. Augie knows Osorio wouldn't do that since Augie would take advantage. Lowrenza thinks that begging El Silencioso would work. Augie throws Operation Use the Nietos in her face. Augie is furious. She wants his humiliation? She doesn't think there is any other choice. She's going. If begging for mercy is what she needs to do. She will.

She goes to FDLSC's house. Fela is tending a rose bush. Lowrenza takes the time to call her "maldita loca." That's not the way to win friends and influence people, Lowrenza.

Meche assures Lowrenza that talking to FDLSC is useless, but Low insists. She asks Meche to convince El Silencioso. Low says everyone has a time to forgive (pot have you met black?) Fela comes in and accuses her and Augie of taking her house and flowers. She waves her rose trimmer menacingly. Luckily, she doesn't do anything. Fela isn't bad, just crazy. She accuses Low again of being bad and stealing her flowers. She eventually gets around to telling Low that Augie did all those bad things because he was in love with her and she rejected him. Low starts wrestling with Fela.

Upstairs, FDLSC tells Meche that he doesn't want to see Low. He tells Meche that Low needs to go back to her house.

Low meanwhile assumes that what Fela is telling her is just a bunch of crazy woman lies. Fela tells her that Low knows she's not lying. Low goes in for another attack. Esme runs in and defends Fela.

FDLSC agrees he's cruel. He's not going to stop his legal action. Meche wonders if he couldn't give them just a little hope. He can't. That would be a lie and he's never lied. Not even when he stood before the tribunal.

Low is still bleating. Is Esme threatening her? Esme tells her not to mess with her family. Meche runs downstairs and reminds Esme that she's talking to the mother of the man she loves. Seriously? This is our Friday cliffhanger?

Avances
Meatballs and gunshot. More avance monkey shenanigans?

No Me Doy Por Vencido, but I couldn't tell if it was the original Luis Fonsi version with all the background noise.

Thanks!! Now I remember where I heard it: A greatest hits album commercial.

Honestly I was just thinking this week that one thing I love about this show is that there is more instrumental music and that we don't get beat over the head with the same two pop songs over and over (lookin' at you La Malquerida) and in the last two days there have been more pop interludes. *sigh*.

It's up.

Gracias, Sara! So much word to all your snarky observations.

"Then we begin the nth iteration of the same dialog we've been seeing and recapping for months." YES! The whole conversation on the hill until she flounced away...so frustrating!!!

"It's not fair that after everything their parents have done for them: rob, steal, lie...that they should have to face justice alone and that no one show them a little mercy." Lol, yes, poor Augie and Lorenza, it's sooooo unfair...waaaaaaah!

"We return from the commercial break to learn that sadly neither one of them are dead and we have not been put out of our misery." The words that came out of my mouth were "Aw, damn!" I'm mean.

"He says something about one of his paintings...the virgen?" Maybe he said it before and I missed it or maybe they cut it, but what it sounds like is that Pablo had promised to do a painting for the Virgen to thank her for saving Leti, so he was going to finish that first before he worked on the paintings for the next exhibit.

"Carrlos wins friends and influences people with tacos." I seriously thought the guys were going to finish eating and then beat him up again, but I underestimated the power of Virginia's cooking.

"Seriously? This is our Friday cliffhanger?" Total QTH moment.

Thanks, Sara! Rita reading the cards ("blood and bars!") and Lowrenza's visit to Fela (with a cat fight) were highlights here.

Great snark highlighting so much stupidity, so little sense. I really need to see Augie and Lowrenza living in the dump or some kind of humble conditions. And Dorila jobless, selling gum on the street.

Thanks to all the recappers this week. I missed some episodes due to a crazy schedule.

I've been showing my kids Rosalinda and in it Laura Zapata plays the role of the wronged party who's money and child were stolen. She is discovered in a shack as a drunk lowlife. I keep picturing that every time someone brings up the MN's financial doom.

Love it Sara

"No, Pablo, I still don't consider you financially independent."

"..Aaaand, apparently she's been given the script for episodes 1-15."

"Seriously? This is our Friday cliffhanger?"

Show stealer by a mile last night was Virginia discovering Carlos had been beaten. If young love to be portrayed, why not this instead?

Runner up was the conversation Augie and Lorenza had post gunshot. Damn Laura Zapata is good.

I don't quite understand Mariano's angst now. Thought he pretty much washed his hands of mummy & pappy, perhaps he has a better understanding of what it will require to feed, clothe & house himself and reconsidered?

I'm on the edge of my seat, wondering who strips the Martínez Negrete mansion to the bare walls first, the law or Ines & Garabato?

Rita - I don't know either

Gisela - just rattling the cage

Ines - buncha wimps, why do I even waste my time

Lorenza - AUGIE, you dumb ass this is an emilio pucci blouse

Virginia - Taco Belle

Maria - third training wheel

FeBlanca - gonna clip yo wings you old bat

Mercedes - next time I want to kill an afternoon I'll give you a call

tofie-I think Taco Belle has got to be one of your all time greats!

Kat-Thanks for the tidbit about the painting being for the Virgen in gratitude for saving Leti.

La Paloma- I think a gum-selling, jobless Dorila would be fun to see.

Lest anyone accuse me of hating this show, let me clarify that I actually enjoy this hot mess:

Excluding Pablo and Virginia, I really like the costuming.

I love the mood music and the prudent use of pop music.

The conversations are repetitive and there seems to be some unnecessary stretching of the plot/episode count, but at least once a week, I get some good stuff that truly entertains. While difficult to watch, the desalojo was nail-biting action and I felt for the residents of the dump.

I may have given up on our main couple, but I'm intrigued by what's happening on the Ines/Garabato front and completely on board with Carrlos and Virginia.

I hope we get a lot more story with Fela as well.

Thanks, Sara. Fab funny recap. My faves:

"stop being a bitch and take Pablo back. Let's wrap this up in 20 episodes, ok?"

...Aaaand, apparently she's been given the script for episodes 1-15. She's now back to Team Meatball and she will talk to La Gata about him.

Cutest scene: When Virginia longs to touch Carlos, Maria gets between them to shield her from knowing Carlo had a beatdown. Virginia touches Maria’s face, instead of Carlos’, and laughingly tells Maria to get out of the way. In my alternative writing for this scene I see Virginia saying, “Maria, you know I don’t go that way.”

Favorite scene: Augie rudely yelling at nosy Dorila to scram and leave him and Lowrenza alone with their gunshot. That was probably the most intimate those two have been in years.

I love Ines and want more of her. Already been to jail, still down for bigger jobs, she isn't scared of the dump boss and bet given a shot will take him down. Shame she has been paired with the likes of Garabato a lightweight thug. If the writers would only let her fly. Alejandra Robles Gil facial expressions kill me, and still think of her face when she was smacking the dude she drugged in the hotel room. She was in CI and one of Alfonso's ex lovers and got in a smack fest with Maricruz. I liked her then and really do now.

Niecie, that scene with Carlos, Virginia, Maria and even the guard that approached and gave Virginia 2 minutes because he was in love as well better than anything between Pablo & Esmeralda (once they hit adulthood). Carlos didn't want her to worry but welcomed her touch and she learning to cook and somewhat apologetic it simple food.

The guard, like many of us, really needed to witness another 2 minutes of true love to get through his day.

I've been thinking a lot last night and this morning about the "fairness" issue that keeps getting brought up around Fernando getting his assets back. I definitely don't agree with the characters who think that Augie and Lorenza ending up poor is "unfair"--mostly because those arguments have less to do with whether they stole Fernando's assets or not and are mostly centered around how hard it's going to be for them to go from rich to poor. I do think that Fernando needs to get back what was taken from him, although nothing can really give back the years he lost or Blanca's mind. Where I'm not sure is this...

I would assume that at least some of Augie's current assets came from his law practice, so wouldn't he be entitled to keep that portion of it after someone does the massive amount of paperwork to figure out how much that would be? And how would those poor beleaguered forensic accountants decide how much of the money Augie "earned" was also due to Fernando, since "winning" the case against him bolstered Augie's prestige?

This may all be moot, as it's possible that Augie's current assets are equal to what he originally stole from Fernando, given the extravagant lifestyle of the Martinez Negretes.

I guess what I'm getting at is--if I steal $20 from you and buy a winning lottery ticket, what's the "fair" thing to do? Just give you back the $20 I stole and keep the jackpot? Give you the $20 and the jackpot? Is there really any "fair" solution?

I'll bite with a little tofie law. If I were the judge, it would be the amount stolen adjusted for inflation plus interest on that and punitive damages since this is civil litigation. (Augie going to jail for theft and perjury criminal). Problem I see with buying a lotto ticket or using the money for a successful business venture is those two acts may never have been happened. Augie buys a winning ticket and Fernando doesn't play lotto or Augie leverages the cash, his connections for a commercial development and Fernando wanted it to be a dump. This thing could easily have gone the other way for Augie and they penniless but Fernando still needs to be made whole. The amount stolen adjusted for inflation, plus interest and punitive damages.

The punitive damages is the wild card and could consider what Fernando could have made in that 20 year span he was locked up plus money for pain and suffering.

I'm down with Judge tofie's sentence. Don't forget kidnapping, though I don't know how they'll tie Augie to that directly. I like that the bar association has already taken action.

Oh, yeah, I did forget baby napping, and Blanca can sue them too

I suppose Esme could as well. Really, all 3 of them were affected by that, in different ways. I wonder if a judge would be ok with that or if s/he would rather just issue 1 ruling and 1 set of damages on the kidnapping charges. Maybe this is what Rita was worried about, back when she was worried. But with Fernando in jail and never expected to get out and Blanca supposedly dead, it would be difficult to hold Rita responsible--at that point, all she was doing was taking in a baby who didn't really have anyplace else to go. Though, she did stall once Fernando and Blanca re-appeared.

Gosh, see I forgot the baby that was napped, was Esmeralda. What Rita should worry about is Augies criminal trial and she certainly involved. Guess she could testify against Augie, go into the witness protection program and hide anonymously in another dump.

Bahahahaha...that would break Chacharas' poor misguided heart!

As much as that guy annoys me, all his piropos are hilarious. The salsa on my taco, the lime for my tequila...though my all time favorite was "hey, babe, even though you have the face of a serial killer, I know you have a good heart."

Niecie-Your alternative writing is a hoot!

Kat- I feel like there are so many things I want to know about the case before I can really make a judgement...

...but I will anyway.

I assume Augie had some assets of his own. We all kind of suspect that Low was from very humble beginnings. I also assume she set her sights on Augie because he had some assets and was an up and coming lawyer so she saw a potential for those assets to grow...

...but those assets may not have grown as much or as quickly as she would have liked. FDLSC was probably uping and coming more quickly than Augie, so Low Macbethed Augie into taking action. We don't know precisely what those actions were, but we know a man died (which FDLSC admits he killed in self defense), a baby was napped and a wife was driven mad (and presumed to be dead.)

Augie will have to pay for those criminal acts and so will Low if it is proven that she knew what was going on.

Assets should be distributed as follows: Augie should return the original amount of assets stolen plus restitution for the 20 years in jail, the loss of time with Esme and for Fela's current and future psychiatric care. An amount at least equaling Augie's original, honestly earned assets should be placed into a trust to be managed by Virginia (I trust her more than Mariano and Pablo.) The house should immediately be put in Esme's possession. I have no legal reasoning for this. It just seems right. Any monies left (I assume these are monies earned by Augie after FDLSC is taken to jail) should go to various charities to help the people living in the dump THAT HE OWNS.

Oh, and by "pay for criminal acts" I mean "jail."

But that leaves the issue of who gets Lorenza's closet and jewelery. She has a couple killer blouses I'd like to have and likely set Augie back 12 to 15 hunert a piece and not all that jewelery costume.

Hmm. Well, if she's innocent of crimes, she can take them with her to live in the jacal in the dump (That's where I just decided she should end up.) I think that would be quite a punishment to see what a few weeks in the dump will do to them.

Otherwise, they can have a yard sale and invite everyone from the dump to an early-bird event. She can watch them fight over her goods as they cart her away to jail.

Oh, I totally think Lorenza was an instigator, at the very least. Whether she helped plan it or even know everything that was going on, I can't tell yet. At least Lady Macbeth had a conscience! I'm not convinced Lorenza does.

I hope we get to see the trial and more flashbacks about exactly QTH happened. Who was this "partner" that Fernando killed? Why did he come after Fernando in such a way that Fernando needed to defend himself? Was Augie behind that, or did he just take advantage of the situation after the fact? How was Augie sooooo in love with Blanca, but at the same time, Lorenza doesn't seem to recognize her at all?

YES! That would be a much better way to stretch the story!!

I have this terrible feeling, though, that while they had an idea that there *would* be a backstory, they're stalling because no one took the time to figure out *what* that backstory would be! How many things are we going to find out that don't remotely fit with what people have been saying. Like Rita and her "I'm going to go to jail!" because...why? Um...we didn't really think about that, we just...uh...needed to stall.

We are definitely headed down the same road CI took, but this time it's a little shorter, there are no mullet skirts and the necklaces are prettier. There is a feel of "Uh, let's stall", but I'm still a little more interested because of the backstory and I'm dying to know where Ines and Garabato are heading. She's been in jail once and we still don't know what the upshot of the drugged John job was. I wonder if that will come back to haunt her.

I've said before that I think Ines is a Lorenza-in-training. It seems like they both had a thing for guys with potential, but not enough ambition, and feel like they've got to hold the reins and steer their men in the right direction to make them successful. Maybe Ines will go through her own big-ass-necklace phase, but in the end, I don't see how she can avoid jail if she insists on going down this road.

I just think they are lazy and expected the Pablo & Esmeralda show to get them through.

See, even I can write the dialog for Pablo. I love you; you love me; liar; we look good together so let's make babies; did you look at that dude, you want him don't you; I want to change your depends when you're old; whore; give us a kiss you know you want to; I wasn't hiding I dropped something; hey, I drew this for you, if you hold it like this it looks like a cat

It's definitely not a healthy relationship. A lot of the protagonists' relationships on telenovelas aren't lately and it bugs the hell out of me. Carlos and Virginia are a MUCH better example of people fighting to be together.

You sure don't hear Carlos blame Virginia for being in jail and she willing to live in the dump and wait for him rather than with her abusive mother or in an institution locked away forever. This is a blind 17 year old girl and he a near illiterate orphan. This I can chew on.

Yep. He waited for her when she was in Italy, now she's waiting for him while he's in jail. The two of them are a team. Pablo and Esme keep promising to be, and then forgetting. Even Ines and Garabato are more united than Pablo and Esme and that's *with* Garabato using her and cheating on her.

Sara your recap was magnifico! There was a lot to chew on in this episode.

1. I kept cracking up when someone described the eviction of the basurero folks as "putting them out on the street". There is no street!

2. Cap baby--why do we never see his face? Does he have a horrific birth mark on his head?

3. I like Judge Tofie's pronouncement but definitely think it must include income lost during the 20 yrs FDLSC did not have the use of his assets.

4. We know Meatball is not a contender or even a galan-wannabee...why didn't they cast someone a little teensy bit less revolting?

5. Yeah, why was Dorila horrified when she laid eyes on Rita at the engagement party? ITA that the writers throw stuff in for effect and figure they'll hash it all out later. Little do they know that we are already hashing.

(I heart Mariano)

Tofie, that dialog you wrote for Pablo was hilarious! A perfect recap of all his lines.

Ay! Sara! Thank you for the recap which I will read in a moment. Busy Saturday, just got through watching the ep and wanted to react!

I'm glad Pablo and Esme realize how immature they are. I'm glad they said it and I must tune down my expectations-meter to thus prevent frustration with these two kids!

Glad that Blanca/Fela got to confront Lorenza but if Fernando says his heart is stone when it comes to pity for the MNs, then Lorenza's head is stone cause that heffa really doesn't think she's done anything wrong! A larger social commentary could flow from this but I'm going to stick to the story. . .speaking of social commentary though, interesting that Carlos beams about his 3 meals in prison and he is so fresh and so clean! clean! (Yes, I hear Outkast)

The confrontation with Lorenza however satisfying left me kinda feeling like screaming but I guess if El Sil had come downstairs and seen Lo tussling with his beloved Blanca there would indeed have been a locura committeed! Okay. Sunda's busy too but I look forward to enjoying the recap and comments! Thank you!

Ugh. Sorry for not expressing my appreciation for several days. Had a house full of people when the furnace went out, so interesting couple of days.

Thanks to you recappers, and for this installment, Sara. I think my favorite part of this one was when Lorenza told Augie to blow his brains out somewhere else. Wouldn't want to ruin the carpet at the MN mansion, after all.

I love the discussion on how justice should be meted out on the MNs. Another favorite scene was when Mariano was all shook up about losing the MN fortune, and Pablo just shrugged his shoulders and said he was earning a living, and maybe others should consider doing that.

tofie, loved: Virginia; Taco Belle.

Thanks again, Sara.

David

J in Oregon-Thank you! My fan-girlness still lies with Mariano as well. I couldn't agree with you more about the casting of the Meatball. I guess his looks don't bother me so much...but he looks so much older and it seems really pervy for him to be so obsessed. Also, I tend to do more "bashing" than "hashing". I don't have the head for hashing. Bashing is less taxing for me intellectually. LOL.

tofie-I've always felt like the folks at Caray could write a much better telenovela!

Lila-Thanks! I hate TN convention that has a knock-down drag out fight happening in one area of a house and no one in the house seems to notice. I guess they were trying to build some tension because I kept wondering if El Sil was going to hear and go running to Blanca's/Fela's defense.

David- Thank you! Having company in the midst of a furnace breakdown must have been no fun. I appreciate your taking the time to stop by.

It's interesting how we all still refer to it as the MN mansion since we've known since very early on that it is stolen property. I guess there's really nothing to call it though.

Sara---Yet another stellar recap.
I read it yesterday but couldn't comment until now. Some things in your recap that stood out for me.

Mamby pamby Monica couldn't get Pablo away from Esme, she will. Looks like a cat fight brewing. Esme time to sharpen your claws.

It's not fair that everything their parents have done for them:
rob, steal. lie. Right Sara, those three words says it all.

Esme thought bubbles about her heart but oh! her head resists.

We return from the commercial break to learn that neither of them are dead and we have not been put out of our misery.

Sara your message to Pablo was sharp and clear---You can do something about that dumbass!

Tofie your Lorenza and Virginia were a riot.

Wow Tofie, I don't remember Ines in CI.

Judge Tofie---You got it down pretty good. If you were the judge
Augie would use his gun, not just think about it.

Sara---you crack me up. Put Lowrenza's stuff out for a yard sale and give the dump people first choice. LOL I love it.

How can/will Ines avoid jail? She should be in jail already.

Sara---You wrote in your recap that her likability rating has gone way down with me. Gringo says

The gods or powers that be sent the baby goddess Esmeralda to earth to be Pablo's soul mate and a guiding star to both the rich and the poor. Of course mistakes are going to be made along the way. Remember that our raven haired goddess didn't have a mother and father to guide her along the way. She only had mean Rita and that wasn't much help at all. However with the help of the Virgincita and El Senor she will do fine and things will work out for the good in the end. Sara, don't be too harsh on the goddess
she's learning and has a good heart that was given to her from above. Have patience, the force is with her and won't let her fail. Yes she will make mistakes and some lessons need to be learned , the same goes for Pablo but those lessons will get learned
and in the end the sun will be shining brightly.

David I was wondering about you, glad that you are back.

Oh, the powers that be did send the Raven Haired Goddess to earth but she missed the drop zone and ended up in the dump, setting off an alternative reality in which she meets Pablo entirely by mistake. Fate & it's dimwitted twin Fxxxup have been trying to correct the error ever since. Alas, sometimes it nearly impossible and while Esmeralda could be lured away, scraping up legitimate competition a buggerbear. One is old and has a fat head and the other prematurely bald.

Kat: Not sure how I missed this earlier-

"How was Augie sooooo in love with Blanca, but at the same time, Lorenza doesn't seem to recognize her at all?"

Could Augie be a creepy stalker? We know Fela was a singer...somewhat famous, too. Could he have had some sort of fantasy that she was singing just to him? That she was sending him messages...

...wait, that doesn't work because she was FDLSC's wife.

...wait, why the hell is Low acting like she doesn't know her? Did they never see each other at the office Christmas party?

Hell. I wish the writers would fill us in about the past a little more.

gringo- I love Maite. Don't worry. I may be frustrated with Esme, but it is so much easier to take with Maite playing the part.

And since you confessed it, too...

...I can't remember Ines from CI either! :-(

Her name was Liz, she was one of Alfonso's, ex models/lovers and part of the whole art crowd. She befriended Álvaro's 16 year old daughter, thought he was gonna marry her, was jealous of Maricruz and they got in a slap fest in the garden.

Well I remember the slapfest! Really wish I could picture her now. The image of Ines has taken over.

Sara, it's really confusing. Somehow Augie knew her well enough or knew enough about her that he either hatched the plan to get rid of Fernando to get her all to himself...or Lorenza came up with the plan to get rid of Fernando so they could have his money...or neither of them planned a thing and Augie's mystery partner went after Fernando, got himself killed, and Lorenza and Augie decided to swoop in and relieve Fernando of all that pesky money. But in all of those scenarios, they both had to have known enough about Fernando to know he was (1) married (2) to Blanca and (3) they had a child. So Lorenza acting like she has no idea who Blanca is, especially when she looks exactly the same as in that publicity photo, makes no sense.

What did Fernando even do for a living? I know he was a marques, so did his "job" just consist of managing his money? Was he a lawyer? Is he not defending himself now because he lost his right to practice while in prison? Was he never a lawyer and I just assumed he was because Augie is?

I hope they give us more history and that it makes sense in some way. And, really, we're dealing with so many liars, that I would even settle for them making sense out of it all by having someone say "Yeah, well, I lied about that."

At least the necklaces are pretty. ;-)

Bahahahaha...Tar-jay, I'm telling you! Although, I'm thinking I could bead crochet some monstrosities that would put Lorenza's to shame :D

Sara! Stupendous! Just stupendous! Love the discussion too about a just punishment of the MN and restitution for El Sil and the dlSC family!

I agree with whomever said they didn't think about the back stories but just threw stuff in for suspense or stalling. That cracks me up! They probably made this stuff up as they went along! Lordy, Lord! Thanks Sara and thanks all o' y'all for this fun discussion. Later!

Trying to upload some fun, but it won't let me post a picture directly here, so let's try this...

Not watching...just lurking. But had to take a moment to chuckle at that picture, Kat. :)

Sara- Thanks for the snarky recap. Looks like not much has changed since the last time I watched the show, except poor Carlos is in prison! At least he's clean and getting fed.

the photo is perfect

I've been thinking about this all weekend---Rita's cards say blood and bars on the horizon. In the advances we see our favorite Meatball getting frisky with goddess Esme when Pablo appears. We then hear what sounds like a shot. Blood and bars? Is Pablo on his way to the slammer to join Carlos? Are the writers playing with us again? I mean where did Pablo get a gun? Actually in the advances we don't see one but are led to believe that Pablo is reaching in his waistband or his pocket and then as the picture cuts away and we hear what sounds like a gun shot. I ask if there is a gun why? Pablo doesn't need one as the Meatball is no match for him physically. Are Rita's cards right? What is Pablo's fate?
must see tv tonight.

We must be reading each other's mind, gringo. I woke up with similar thoughts.

I really, really, reallly hope the avances monkeys are messing with us.

Another thought that crossed my mind: Is it possible the writers know exactly where they are going, but have been told to stretch it and the filler only makes it LOOK like they don't have a clue?

Sara, you give them too much credit

Nah, I think the writers are bumbling along.

Every time Rita was saying "the cards don't lie" I kept thinking "Well, no, Rita, the cards never lie in these shows...but YOU do!" Although, there would probably be cosmic retribution if she did lie about what the cards were saying, probably in the form of her being rendered unable to read the cards or the cards no longer giving her any useful information. And Rita probably knows this, so maybe it should be amended to "The cards never lie and I never lie about the cards."

Blood and bars it is. *sigh* And it's probably too much to hope that it'll be Pablo and not Meatball. If Pablo does have a gun and they're not messing with us, then I would guess someone gives him Augie's gun so Augie won't do anything stupid with it.

I meant Meatball, not Pablo. At least, I think I did....

Yeah. Y'all are probably right about the writers.

We should have made a drinking game about gun-shots heard in avances that turned out to be false leads. Between that and "maldita gata" we would probably all have alcohol poisoning.

PS: Many thanks to everyone for the conversation this weekend. The show may be mediocre (or worse) but I always enjoy the comments.
