La Gata #51 11/10/2014 Never, ever, threaten to kill someone

Okay peeps, this will be quick because I have a lot of work to get to today!

Esmeralda has taken Fela outside to keep her away from Lorenza, inside the house Low demands to speak to Fernando, even after Mercedes tells her that he wont see her and that it would be best if she left. Low, will not budge and finally Fernando graces her with his presence, she explains that she is there to beg for mercy for her sick husband, he can't take away their money, they need it! Fer does not care, he tells her his wife was in need of mercy and they denied her that and he will do the same to them, Low then gets on her knees to beg but Fernando is not moved (although Mercedes looks horrified), Low finally realizes she won't get anywhere and goes home with her tail between her legs.

The Crypt Keeper:

I think at this point the Meatball understands that he wont be getting anything from Esmeralda so he pays Rita a few pesos to ensure that Esmeralda goes to see him. Rita is trash and I don't care what silly love story they give her this lady is bad news, there's a song by Pepe Aguilar that has a line "tu solo te mueves por dinero"- or "you only move for money" and that's a pretty good description of Rita, as long as she gets what she wants she will sell anyone out. Witch.

The criminals:

Elsewhere Ines and Garabato get the whole gang ready to rob the Negrete-Martinez household, the men have guns and when Ines asks for a gun Garabato tells her she wont know what to do with it and promises to protect her, Ines shows that being a criminal is really in her blood (remember, her dad is in jail for being a bad apple, and Rita is her grandmother), this chick is way too hyped about committing robbery, they should have left to her rot in jail because no good will come from her running the streets.

Hi, my name is Esmeralda and I lack a brain:

Esmeralda, Jarocha and the crypt keeper are in the shack, Rita tells Esmeralda that she should go see the Meatball, and she should do it at night because she is sure to find him then. Esmeralda agrees and Jarocha tries to stop her telling her that going there is a bad idea and even volunteers to go with Esmeralda but Esme once again proves to be brain dead and refuses to listen to reason. Esmeralda runs off to confront the Meatball, in the words of Julia Roberts character in Pretty Woman "big mistake, huge".

Esmeralda arrives at the Pizza shop and a few minutes later the Meatball follows, she confronts him about his lies and he gets aggressive, he tries to force himself on her and at that moment Pablo walks in, a fight starts and suddenly a shot rings out, someone has shot the Meatball (well deserved!). Esmeralda and Pablo freak the heck out and he calls the popo and an ambulance, and sends Esmeralda away because he does not want her "involved"-right, send away the one and only witness to the crime because that's smart. Screw it, we have never accused Pablo of being smart have we?

Esmeralda makes her way back to the shack and tells Rita and Jarocha what happened. Rita says she is sure Pablo shot the Meatball because he had made several threats of violence against the Meatball and threatened to kill him more than once. This kids is a perfect example of why you never, ever threaten someones life with witnesses around! Rita continues and says she will testify against Pablo, Jarocha tells her to zip it and goes off to see what's going on with Pablo.

We now return to the pizza shop where Pablo is being arrested, why? Because the Meatball pointed a finger at him and said he was the one that shot him, Jarocha gets there in time to see him be put into the police car and then she runs off to tell Esme the bad news. Pablo is taken to jail where he demands to talk to his attorney-his whole interaction with the police officers really show what a spoiled brat he is-in fact he sounded a lot like Low did when she demanded to see Fernando.

My theory is that Ines shot the Meatball-the writers made a big deal about her wanting the gun so my money is on her.

Jarocha is once again with Esme and tells her that Pablo is headed to the pokey-they agree to seek Fernando out for help because he is smart and will know what to do. In the background Rita keeps yammering on about Pablo being a criminal.

Lets steal stuff, yo:

Garabato, Ines and Co, break into the mansion, they are noisy as all hell and make their way around the house taking whatever they can fit into pillow cases-criminal masterminds they are not. Lorenza hears noise coming from downstairs and becomes worried. The gang make their way into Pablo's room and Garabato promises to rid the world of Pablo- Ines wants to steal some of the art work done by Pablo because it might be worth a lot when he makes it big-oh please, he is not that talented!

Lorenza walks into the room and the gang tries to hide but they run out of luck, she sees them and runs off screaming for help, the gang catches up with her and drag her in to her bedroom where they demand the combination to the safe, they want all her jewels and she is refusing to give them anything, she calls them every name on the book-proving that she has more balls than anyone else in this production!

Agustin tells her to give them the combination, I think having a gun pointed at his head might have given him some motivation, Lorenza says "no", the jewels are all she has left in the world, Agustin tells her that the stuff does not even belong to her but to Fernando's wife-the gang is amused by this, finally Agustin gives them the safe combination and the gang makes out with cash and bling. Lorenza calls her disabled husband a coward for not wanting to DIE and he calls her heartless.

The gang takes off but Lorenza goes after them, still calling them names cause common sense is not something the Negetes have. Ines gets fed up and starts to attack Lorenza, she slap her but Lorenza is scrappy and scratches her face and pulls off her mask, getting a good look at her face- for those of you wondering this is the first time Low has seen Ines.

Ines and Garabato flee without wearing masks and who should be pulling up across the street? Esmeralda, who sees the criminals making their escape. These guys are idiots, even I know to always wear a face mask and gloves when committing a crime!

And that's a wrap-join us tomorrow when stuff happens!

Just let me observe that when the gang broke into the MN mansion, it looked like it had already been robbed: big lobby, no furniture. Oh well--carry on with the pillowcases up the staircase.

Also, what is Ines' legal status, is she out on bail from her former arrest, or did they drop the charges?

Lorenza not giving up the combination to the safe, nuh-uh, even with the gun at Augie's head. Even after Augie says they aren't her jewels, they belonged to Mrs El Silensioso. Hee hee!

Okay, I'm lower than slime but I stood up and cheered when Ines punched Lorenza. Sorry, I will slink away to the time-out table on the patio.

Ha, ha, ha! Gooo, Inez!

Do not be ashamed. I laughed and cheered too.

Honestly I'm still scratching my head over last night's events. Points for actually calling authorities and the ambulance, but why the hell send the one witness away?

And why is Rita back on the Meatball bus? Someone will need to explain this to me.

Is Lorenza that crazy ?

I love Ines, I love Ines, I love Ines, gimme mo Ines!

Well, Rita did get paid once more, perhaps that is all it is. It was weird though, she made it sound like she some master puppeteer trying to get Esmeralda to leave the dump and go back where she belonged after Meatball had a bullet in em.

None of this would have happened had Esmeralda not come back to the dump. That girl ain't proud, she's stupid and deserves Pablo.

I don't feel bad because I cheered when they locked Pablo up even after he indignantly shouted at the police.

Lord have mercy! Esme insisting on going to meet meatball alone at night. . it only had to turn out badly. This is one of many, many times when I have to remember she was "raised" by Rita. Nuff said.

So, is this part of meatball's fail-safe plan he kept talking about? Is this a fake death? If so, how does meatball think this will make Esme run to his arms? or was "the plan" Rita's lying to her silly self to get her to go to the pizza joint at night and he was going to seduce/rape her?
I hope this IS curtains for meatball so they can get a rival for Pablo worthy of her and our attention.

Easy home invasion, wasn't it? So Lo knows Ines is involved and Esme sees the whole hee-haw gang about to get in the getaway car . .what will happen next. . .I feel like gringo!

Hilarious moment when Vero and Dorila came running out after everything was over. Lo asks why didn't they help and Vero said she thought they were fighting and didn't want to interfere! HA! Serves 'em right! They're always rudely dismissing Vero and Dorila even to having kicked Dorila out after Augie shot Lo in the arm! Silly asses!

What an exciting episode! What fun!

Since I have a mind like a steel sieve: does Low know Ines? Was Ines at the engagement shin dig? I can't remember.

Sara, I'm in your club. . .somehow I feel like Lo has seen her but I can't remember either. . .of course, it could be a false memory!

Another terrible idea for a drinking game...drinking every time the episode makes you want to say "Wait...what?!"

Things we don't know/can't explain:
-Ines' legal status--they never told us if she was out on bail or if the charges were dropped.
-Why Rita is pushing Meatball again.
-Meatball's plan (if indeed he has/d one)
-Whether Lorenza has ever seen Ines before.

My money on that last one is that Lorenza was just shocked she actually got the mask off and saw her face. She might have been thinking that she has Ines' DNA under her fingernails now, but if she was, I think she'd be more horrified and running for the bleach.

You know, most of my enjoyment of this show is just the pure ridiculousness of it all and knowing that I only have to deal with it for 70 more episodes makes it even sweeter.

I bet by the end of it we are going to have a long list of things the writers failed to tie up.

Lila- thanks for your comment. I feel like they should know each other too.

True, at least it's not a super-long one. And we got a tiny bit of flashback, and at least it didn't contradict anything.

I noticed that Jarocha brought up Ines' dad again and got shushed. I wonder if he'll be back and/or we'll find out what he did and why his escape made everyone worried for Esme.

Wonder if Ines is in any way related to Augie's dead partner? It sure looked like Lorenza either recognized her or felt she should know her. I just worry if Ines will now carry a scar for the rest of her life.

Can you imagine how much Pablo will milk going to jail for "their love", god the dude will be insufferable and we'll hear about it for the next 30 episodes. Take a cue from Carlos punk.

Oh yeah, Ines' dad! Thanks, Diva, forgot all about him. Rita's son! This will either be a loose end or one of many pieces of junk they threw in to use to patch up a later plot hole.

Anybody else think Garabato had time to stop by the pizza joint and shoot Meatball before carrying out the MN heist. They took a lot of trouble to show a gun being thrown down a sewer. The Basurero Bad Boys (and Girl) had enough fire power to be able to sacrifice one gun.

Lila

Ohhhhhhh, tofie! I just had a horrible thought... What if Meatball's plan is to exchange Pablo's freedom for sex? Or even marriage? Not that that would be less gross. She's always thought Pablo wasn't tough enough to handle... well, anything. It would be easy for Meatball to use that to his advantage.

I've been wondering for weeks why Rita is pushing Esme towards Meatball instead of a spoiled rich boy from a pseudo-wealthy family. (But Rita had no way of knowing the wealth might soon be stripped away...)

Also if Meatball's plan was to have someone shoot him and pin it on Pablo, how could he have rigged Pablo's unexpected appearance? Looked like Meatball was intent on carrying out his plan to forcibly carry off Esme.

J in Oregon
(loving Mariano in his skinny, skinny pants)

I actually thought the shooter could be Mariano, he has motive, (protect Esmeralda & be rid of Pablo) he had opportunity and the only thing to throw us off was him musing in the bar.

Kat, yuck, he could but Pablo would still come sniffing around unless the idea is actually Esmeralda's. If Meatball survives, and Pablo remains behind bars, I doubt Esmeralda would let him close to her.

I thought I wanted a Mariano/Esmeralda hook up but she's too stupid, I want Mariano & Ines to get together.

I think Fer had someone take care of Meatball.

I have can't tolerate Esme's stupidity. We have a house on a rural road here. Looks like a garbage dump. The mother of an 18 month old baby used a hot plate to heat his bedroom. Left him alone in the house. All the trash laying around caught fire and the poor little guy was killed. Where was momma at 5:00 in the morning? OUT!!

All of this foolishness about taking those babies into a dump and then leaving them with a crazy like Rita while Esme runs around being stupid is too much.

My comments above were meant to compare the irresponsibility of these two mothers.

I feel your pain, Emeraldrose! Esme never thinks about the babies first: she was going to fight the riot police instead of going to get them and now she insists on going to argue with the Meatball in the middle of the night and then wants to stay with his supposed corpse to free "her man" whom she'll denounce in the next breath! As frustrating as her behavior is, she is truly acting like someone raised by an exploitive, manipulative, abusive, selfish old psychopath!

And Mariano as the shooter? Hmmmm, could be. I don't think El Sil had him offed. He's going for vengeance, yes, but I don't think he'd ever take an innocent life, no matter how annoying!

emeraldrose, both have play-doh for brains. All this has happened because she doesn't want anyone talking sense around her. Now she heads to see Fernando, not for her children but for Pablo. She too proud when her daughter nearly dies but will beg for the release of the immature father.

I am looking for Eli's recap because much help is needed by me on this one.

Ok, Lila said that the gun was thrown away, I didn't see that. How did I miss it? I didn't see any gun period. I was wondering why the police weren't trying to find it at the crime scene.

Sara mentions that she enjoys the ridiculousness. I have found ridiculousness in almost every novela even the so called serious ones.

Ok---So let's get to ridiculous. The bumbling junk yard gang is out for a "big time" job this time
over in the super rich part of town. What no security system? Or is one of Garabato's thugs an electronics expert and was able to disarm the system? Did they have a master key? It seemed like they had no trouble entering.

The Ines Lowrenza fight was a surprise to me. Ines is scrappy and has a lot of fight in her but Low is almost twice her size and outweighs her by a lot. I didn't see the Ines attack coming or the Lowrenza counter attack for that matter. Yes, there is DNA under Low's fingernail as was mentioned
but this is a novela and things like that are often overlooked.

There should be a scar in Ines' face for a while but I am not sure if it will be permanent.

Esmeralda sow Garabato, Ines and the gang. She has to be in danger now. She's in a tough position. You know that she has a good heart and wouldn't want even her enemy's to be robbed. Will she go to the Police? Her babies are with Rita in the dump. Keep quiet
or your babies will be dead babies.

Tofie---LOL Pablo will brag about going to prison for their love. That would be great, and a whole new chapter in the La Gata love story will unfold.

Will Pablo get b eat up by the prison tough guys? Poor Pablo.

How will the mural get finished now?

Last thing---I don't remember anything about parents of Ines or about any real, not adopted children of Rita.
the gringo

big g. Ines stole the key from Virginia. All that was shown was a black gloved hand dropping a gun into a sewer grate.

Ay, Pablo, you PRAY to the Virgencita ... not draw pictures for her! See what it gets you?

I think in Esme's pea brain it's okay to beg for help for Pablum because he's just "el amor de su vida" and she's not really responsible for him, but her babies "no tienen padre" (well, in HER view, not one that really steps up to the plate) and that makes her - and ONLY her - responsible for them (forget the fact that she willingly accepted the fat, greasy meatball's help).

tofie, that brief clip of whoever getting rid of the gun makes me think it wasn't Mariano. The shoes were too generic and the pants weren't tight enough!

This whole TN is annoying. Reminds me so much of CI. The hero is a whimp and the heroine is a whinner. The actors are awesome giving what they have to work with. The producer and writers, well they need serious therepy. What is Rita's problem? Can't stand this anymore.

Hanna

Recap is up!

Ay! Kat, thanks for the reminder about Ines' dad. I feel like he will be back physically or is somehow part of the backstory.

gringo- I love the ridiculousness, believe me.

LOL moment last night: Low running around in house slippers and trying not to fall.

My problem with Meatball's "plan". Was it really his plan to get himself shot? That seems mighty risky. The person who shot him was shooting from a distance as Meatball and Pablo were tussling. How did Meatball know Pablo would actually show up (did I miss that part?) I cannot really believe that what happened was really the plan. I think he's improvising and getting shot was some other thing. We do still have that idea floating about that he's not really Italian. Could the gloved hand be a new character?

The more I think about it the more I think "wait...what?" (DRINK!)

Goody! Going to read the recap!

And the best heading award goes to:
"Hi, my name is Esmeralda and I lack a brain"

Nailed it.

You may be on to something with Ines...but why would she shoot Meatball? Did he pay her to?

To quote a dear gringo: "must see TV!"

Yeah, Kat, I went back and looked and it not dapper enough. I don't want it to be my man Mariano. I also thought of Gisela, the bullet meant for Esmeralda and she can ride up and save Pablo herself because the shot went wide.

I'm actually having some fun with La Gata now I stopped paying direct attention to Pablo & Esmeralda, though this stuff does orbit around them, it is juicy.

I loved it as Ines and Garabato, on their way out, get to the door and Lorenza comes down the stairs, marches into the foyer and Ines stopped and turned around. I knew there was a throw down bout to go down. Yeeee hawww, must see TV

Gracias, Eli! This was a tough episode to recap, with so many things that just didn't make any sense, but you did it well, and called out a lot of the stupidity running rampant in the show.

"Screw it, we have never accused Pablo of being smart have we?" was pretty much my favorite. No, we never has. He's got a reputation to uphold!

Speaking of reputation, you pointed out that Pablo was sounding a lot like his mom and that got me to thinking.... How come last week, Lorenza is able to get the cops to do what she wants on the "prestige" of the Martinez Negrete name and this week they don't care that Pablo's a rich kid? I wonder if it was just script/story inconsistency or if it's because there was an alleged murder involved.

I love your observations about not threatening to kill anyone in front of witnesses and always using a mask and gloves. I may be willing to cut Ines and Co. some slack on that, since I assume they've never watched a single episode of any incarnation of CSI or Law & Order. But Pablo?

"I'm actually having some fun with La Gata now I stopped paying direct attention to Pablo & Esmeralda, though this stuff does orbit around them, it is juicy."

Yup. That's the best way to deal with it.

awesome Eli

"Lorenza calls her disabled husband a coward for not wanting to DIE and he calls her heartless." Golly, how did I miss this?

Oh I don't think it was Mariano, remember he called Pablo to ask him over for a drink and Pablo told him he was busy.

He did Eli and I thought how convenient to have a record of a call to Pablo. Guess it depends how far away that bar was from the crime scene.

Oh crap, I've watched too many cop shows over the years.

Well Mariano was looking pretty dapper and relaxed there in the, I have trouble believing he was the shooter. When Pablo yelled "I can't talk now!" and hung up, Mariano thought-bubbled "yeah, I know why, you're with HER, aren't you?"

Re: Ines' father/Rita's son: when they showed him briefly in the first episode, he looked fairly young, mid thirties, and surprisingly un-thuggish. Maybe they will bring his character back into play.

Also, in the midst of committing a crime, don't yell out your co-thug's name in front of witnesses! ("C'mon, Ines!")

J in Oregon
(still lovin' poor sad Mariano)

Oops, meant to say "Mariano was looking pretty dapper and relaxed there in the BAR."
J

Omg J-- it hadn't even registered with me that Garabato said Ines' name!

I wish we could get more Mariano. His character has been tantalizing. We get hints of some real neat story opportunities, but so far those roads have not been traveled.

Garabato said Ines' name multiple times, the loser. He got her busted before.

Mariano is an awesome story waiting to happen. I pooh poohed him at first because how he acted as a child, then as an adult because he wasn't Pablo (Daniel) and the receding hairline, but slap my face, I want him and doubt I'll watch anything with Dandy Dan again because this train wreck Pablo. Jorge Poza could play Mariano a half dozen ways and pull it off. He's got me on the edge of my seat and they haven't invited him to sit at the adult table yet.

Eli! EEEEliii! Gone Girl, wit' yo' bad self! Love it!

These koo koo folks are fun! Hannah, I decided from the first episode it was a comedy and that has helped me.

I put my money on Garabato as the shooter since he's twisted enough to be mad at the Meatball for throwing them out of his shop even though he made El Meatball buy back his own stuff.

Those poor babies with these two for parents! Where's the resident Social Worker! Maybe Mariano will call CPS, get Esme's rights terminated and then she'll marry him to be near them!

J in Oregon, this cracked me up: " . .in the midst of committing a crime, don't yell out your co-thug's name in front of witnesses! ("C'mon, Ines!")"

Can't wait for tonight. Thanks, Eli!

Welcome, those babies don't stand a chance!

Eli, forgot to thank you for the awesome recap! I loved your subheadings, funny how the word "crypt-keeper" brings up Rita's face. There's still more mystery there about her role in whisking baby Esme away...why Dorila fears her...why she was originally afraid of El Sil but not now.
Sighs. Well, enjoy what is left of Veterans Day, all, and see you tonight.
