La Gata #52 11/11/14 La Piedad
All the defense team needs to do is put Virginia in charge. She would get Pablo out of jail in a DF Minute.
Mariano's pants are now so skinny that I swear he's walking funny.
Now on with the show!
Everyone in the Garabato gang duck behind the car and yells at Ines. She explains that they are right in front of the house where La Gata lived with El Sil. He's the MN's neighbors.
At the delegación Pablo gives his declaración. He swears he's innocent and that the Meatball lied. THe officer tries to get some details: Why did you go there? What were you doing there? Pablo doesn't answer.
Esme wants to go testify. She's the only one who knows he didn't shoot anyone. El Sil promises to help Pablo. Jarocha tries to calm her down. Esme is afraid he's going to go to jail for something he didn't do! Like father-in-law like son-in-law.
Pablo tries logic. If he was guilty, would he have stuck around and called the authorities and an ambulance? Wellll, Pablo...you are kind of not smart. The officer informs him that the Meatball is in a coma and that ain't good for Pablo. The officer thinks Pablo's story is ridiculous. Pablo is screwed if Meatball dies.
We interrupt this recap for some musings: I am more convinced that this was not Meatball's "plan" at all. I think he got shot and was very shocked he got shot...then he decided to use it to his advantage. I'm sure he did NOT expect to be in a coma. Am I way off base?
Esme doesn't understand why El Sil won't let her go help Pablo. He says he just wants to protect her but she thinks he doesn't care about Pablo and that El Sil is still thinking revenge. Jarocha tells her not to be unfair to El Sil. El Sil swears he will help Pablo.
Meanwhile, Pablo's cellmate (Let's call him Unicejas) is trying to shake him down for some money. El Sil interrupts.
A police officer comes to the dump. Ines manages to avoid him.
Esme frets. She still wants to go to the station and help Pablo, but Jarocha talks her out of it. Esme says she's also worried about Virginia. She can't leave her alone in the basurero. Surprise!! Virginia is there! She doesn't know what is going on. Esme tells her about Pablo. Virginia cries.
El Sil didn't think he'd ever see Pablo in such a situation. Believe it or not, El Sil is not thinking about Augie, but in Esme. Pablo reiterates that he does not want Esme involved or making a statement. El Sil agrees. He tells Pablo that he will do everything he can to get Pablo out. Not letting Esme testify is a huge risk. Pablo was not able to talk to Mariano. El Sil's lawyers are on the case Pablo tries to thank him, but El Sil reminds him he is doing this for Esme.
Don Casamiro is not happy that the fuzz is buzzing all around the basurero. He backs out of their deal and it's decided (since she's such a bigmouth) that Ines will hold on to the stuff. She says she's keeping it all then. Garabato tells Don Casamiro that this is not over. Casamiro looks intimidated. Garabato must be getting more powerful.
Pablo tells El Sil that Meatball, despite his condition, puposefully accused him of shooting him. There is no way Meatball is mistaken. He knew Pablo didn't shoot but he accused him anyway. El Sil and Pablo try to figure out if Meatball had other enemies. El Sil promises to help Pablo and to take care of Esme and the babies. He will try to get Pablo out on bail.
Lorenza is annoyed that the police did not take their complaint seriously. Augie has to explain that they probably think they planned it so as to avoid having to give up the jewelry after the embargo. Hahahahaah!!! Lorenza rhetorically asks "what else could happen to add to our disgrace?" Enter Mariano stage right (or was that left?) After hearing about the robbery (and Lorenza says she didn't know Ines), he drops the Pablo is in jail bomb.
El Sil tells the police officer that Pablo didn't tell him anything new. He adds that he think Pablo is completely innocent and he's prepared to pay his bail. Unfortunately bail was denied and Pablo is headed for the reclusorio at any moment.
In fact, right after commercial break. Frankly, I think he looks better in prison duds that in Old Navy™ hoodies.
Meche and Jarocha try to figure out who could have shot Meatball. Jarocha swears if she had been there, she would have done it. Jarocha decides to head to the pizza shop and do a little investigating. She wants to talk to Lupe. El Sil interrupts this conversation to inform them that the police are investigating, but they still think Pablo did it. Esme runs in to again say that if they would just let her testify, it will help Pablo. El Sil informs her that both he and Pablo agree that she should stay out of it. Meche thinks it would be all to easy for the police to think Pablo had shot the Meatball out of jealousy. Has anyone REALLY looked at the Meatball?! Esme wants to know what happens if Meatball dies. Is she really that ignorant of the law? It worries her that Pablo may spend the rest of his life in prison if he's innocent.
Pablo and his fellow prisoners are assigned their cells. I'm sure none of us are surprised that he and Carlos are cell mates. Pablo tells him his being here is a long story. Centavito tells him they have all the time in the world.
Fela talks to Virgina while the babies wiggle. Fela wants to be friends with Virginia and wonders if she will stay with her. Virginia is not sure. She was living in Fela's little house (the jacal I assume) but they brought her here. Virginia explains she doesn't know if she's welcome. Fela explains that El Sil always welcomes any of Esme's friends. El Sil has quietly entered to overhear the conversation. Virginia is still unconvinced. She feels bad about what her family has done. She calls Fela an angel. El Sil tells Virginia she is an innocent child and she is welcome. He brought Fela a beautiful pearl necklace. Now she's in the big bead club, too. El Sil tells Virginia she has nothing ot be ashamed of and to keep her head up. She is like another daughter for him. He's always proud of her. They hug and Virginia asks go to bless him. Great scene. I was glad to see a little heart from El Sil.
Damian tells Esme that Pablo has been transferred to the Reclusorio.
Wow. I'm getting long winded. Summary/detail-less mode in 3...2...1...
Ugh. Rita giving her testimony about hearing Pablo threaten the Meatball (again I am left wondering about THE PLAN.) She offers to help in any way she can. And she's totally sure Pablo could have done something like shoot the Meatball.
Damian reports to El Sil. It's going to be a complicated case and to make matters worse, Damian saw Rita in the delegación as he was leaving. He's sure she is testifying against Pablo. Mariano walks in (and can barely bend his knees.) He wants to be part of the defense team.
Pablo and Carrlos get bullied by the usual crew + unicejas. Pablo will get money for Unicejas...but it's just between Pablo and Unicejas.
Mariano, Damian and El Sil talk about getting Pablo out on bail and Esme's happiness. El Sil tells Mariano that as soon as Pablo is out, he won't oppose the marriage between Pablo and Esme.
More prison bullying. No Pablo doesn't have money, but he got them some time. Dumb.Ass. So what, they beat you to a pulp tomorrow instead of today?
Virginia tells Esme about the robbery and her mother seeing one of the robber's faces. Virginia thinks they made it up, too. Esme thinks it's true. Virginia is afraid that El Sil will be mad when he finds out.
Mariano can't approve of El Sil's approval of the wedding. Damian worries what it will do to El Sil's case against the MN's. El Sil thinks the two things are not related. Augie is the enemy. A call from Lowrenza sends Mariano away.
Lorenza can't believe Mariano is being so impassive. He swears they are doing everything they can. Augie thinks this is all part of El Sil's revenge and Pablo is doomed.
Esme thanks El Sil for all his help. She says AGAIN that she wants to testify, but El Sil reminds her that even Pablo doesn't want her involved. He testified that he was alone.
Mariano visits Pablo in prison and tells Pablo he's part of the defense team, too. He doesn't trust El Sil. Mariano also tells Pablo to distance himself from Esme. It's her fault all this is happening.
El Sil continues to try to convince Esme not testify. He makes her promise to not tell anyone she was there. He also tells her that when Pablo gets out, he will accept her love of Pablo. He just wants her happy. She says he's the best guy in the world.
Mariano runs to Gisela. He's not happy about El Sil's change of heart. He loves Esme and she loves Pablo. He wants Pablo to stay in jail so he has a chance with Esme. He doesn't know what to do. He's having a moral crisis. If you need a full transcript just ask in the comments. He's doing the same thing his parents did, but at least they did it for their kids and to someone outside the family. Gisela joins the "maldita gata" choir.
Esme and Pablo split screen monologue.
Rita finds Ines's booty (as in stolen goods.) Ines freaks out. Rita tells her if she wants something, she'll take it. Ines tells her to respect her stuff. El Sil interrupts. He and Rita have to talk!

I really hoped that he would tell her. I guess we'll have to wait until almost the end for that. -_-
Naw, I'd have to agree that getting shot to blackmail Esme into sleeping with him probably wasn't the plan. That's way too complex, and now with the coma. Considering our cast list and how many of them were otherwise occupied, I wonder if, for once, this could be a completely random event--like someone was intending to hold up another shop in the area, they randomly fired their gun, they realized they hit someone and dumped the gun. Granted, stuff like that never happens.
I hate that I was starting to agree with everyone that if Esme went to the cops, all it would do was become ammo against Pablo.
"If you need a full transcript just ask in the comments." Don't ask me! All I got out of that was Mariano wants Pablo out of the way so he can have a shot at Esme...as if! And Gisela wants Pablo out of jail so she can jump his bones. That whole conversation was like a bunch of unrelated sentences that had nothing to do with each other. The individual things that were said made sense, but the conversation was...not a conversation. I don't even know why Mariano went to her in the first place.
I'm just going to focus on the sweet scene with Fela and Virginia.
Mariano and Gisela had drinks together one time and now they're BFFs. I guess he and Pablo have both now dumped Monica.
And I'm so sorry this was so long. :(
Or maybe Lupe finally snapped! I wouldn't blame him.
It's like the producer/writers want a character to make a statement about something, so that character makes--a statement! Doesn't matter if it doesn't relate to the other end of the conversation, or the plot from the day before. Just dramatic visuals and statements all pasted together, to "sock it" to the audience and make us go "oooh" and "aaaah." TN scrapbooking, I guess.
Been trying to figure out why Rita is so invested in pushing Esme at Meat-a-ball, and I finally figured it's because he is willing to pay Rita for her assistance. (Is it me, or did Rita's hovel suddenly look much neater and more habitable tonight?)
Calling all cars: Where is PRINCIPE?

Do they not have Gun Shot Residue tests in Mexico? How about lie detector tests? I would think that the cops would be much more aggressive in investigating the shooting. They seem like "we've got a shooting, and we have a body to fill the slot of the perp. Case closed." We need to send the NCIS or CSI team down there to help out.
Looks like Augie's genes descended without much change into Mariano. I've always thought he was a slimy manipulator.
Thanks again, Sara.

Just dropping in again to leave my two cents. I think Mariano shot Meatball. Didn't he know Pablo was packing heat and mad at him? Pablo out of the way, Esme is free. But now Mariano's conscience is nagging him.
"He brought Fela a beautiful pearl necklace. Now she's in the big bead club, too."
"Mariano walks in (and can barely bend his knees.)"
Well that show was like a bunch of outtakes stuck together and expected to see Jackie Chan in a few.
Think I understand why GoldenSunflower bailed on this one at 50. It is downright horrible. The best part last night for me was after Fernando gave the necklace to FeBlanca and she stood there in the background grinning in lala land as he is having a serious conversation. I get my hopes up occasionally with a side story or character then they spend a whole episode focused on Pablo & Esmeralda blathering on about love and kills the mood.
Garabato - must be living right, got that parking spot right in front of the house
Carlos - you don't want that albatross around your neck in the pen
Rita - oh, crap
Pablo - I'm the king of promises I cannot keep
Fernando - small price to pay, she'll play in the corner for days with that necklace
Mariano - screw it, Pablo was mom & dads favorite anyway
Gisela - look bonehead, find another co-conspirator, not sharing him with bubba
Carvivilie-The only problem is Pablo did call Mariano and he was in a bar somewhere. Mariano could have been at a bar nearby, though.
tofie-I am really hoping GoldenSunflowers stops by and joins us. I'm dying to hear what her take on all this is.
I did get your email. I just haven't responded yet. Sorry :-(
David, "we've got a shooting, and we have a body to fill the slot of the perp. Case closed." That's definitely how telenovela justice works. I don't know how well it reflects the Mexican legal system. In fact, wasn't that pretty much the excuse for locking up Carmen back in the early days of DQTQTQ? "Someone's been running drugs, we found drugs in your bag, even though we don't think you were behind it, we have to lock somebody up, so until we can catch your sleazy ex, you're going to prison."
Carvivlie, I totally agree that "Mariano does seem to straddle the line bet. good and bad." His character reminds me so much of "Little Al" in DQTQTQ. He was cast as a good guy yet he made several unscrupulous choices that didn't sit well with viewerville audiences. Mariano seems to be doing the same and I believe he is being cast as a good guy.
He's still one of the most intriguing characters on this show, and maybe that's why. He's not "standard issue."
5ft, I don't know anything about the Mexican justice system either, but it seems that many cases, if not all, are judged without a jury. I also wonder about the threshold of curiosity about the truthfulness of witnesses and evidence. I would certainly wonder about the veracity of a smelly, filthy bruja como Rita.
David
So what magic pill does Mariano have to make Esme fall for him while Pablo is locked up?
I was planning on focusing just on Carlos and Virginia, but now Pablo is locked up with Carlos so I can't avoid him. Drat.
I am oddly eager to see this every night, despite knowing how bad it may be. I guess that's how Ms. Latoodle-oo gets her ratings. She figures folks can't look away from a train wreck.
Mariano my think that he now has a clear shot/ chance with Esme so
good luck guy but you don't have a snowballs chance in hell.
David---The police are worse than the Keystone Cops
Tofie---Your Fernando's small price to pay is a riot.
