La Gata #84 12/26/14 La Bomba
The trial begins and Fer claims in his opening statement that he was unjustly accused of murdering his partner (Bruno de la Fuente) in cold blood, but it was really in self defense. Augie just heckles and objects. The murder has already been tried and settled. It has no bearing on the current case. Why are they rehashing it? Osorio says he hopes to get a second trial(?) The judge overrules Augie's objection.
Fer now realizes that Augie not only took his fortune, he took his child and drove Blanca mad. Augie was obsessed with Blanca and when she refused to have anything to do with him, Augie took his revenge and stole Fernando's life!
This sets off Fela's memories. She now remembers that Fernando was set up. She remembers when her baby was taken away. She also remembers when Fernando was taken away. She remembers the confrontation with Augie soon afterwards. She accuses Augie of framing Fernando. Augie was the one that told Fernando that Bruno de la Fuente had a gun and it was Augie who put the gun where Fernando could get it. When she asked Augie why he did that, Augie says so there would be no witnesses. According to Augie both he and Bruno were stealing Fernando's fortune (did I get that right?) Now Augie alone has Fernando's fortune. Blanca thinks Augie must have really hated her. Oh, no. That's not it at all! Augie claims he sent Fernando off to jail and stole his fortune so Blanca would be his. He loves her! Blanca tells him money doesn't matter and she would rather be dead or crazy than be with Augie. Augie says that can be arranged! Back to the present: She announces she wants to be a witness!
Rita is in a deep depression and it worries Cha Cha. She explains to him about her son being unjustly accused of killing his boss's wife. Tilico had fallen in with bad people. Rich people. The wife of one of them died and Tilico was convicted of the crime and sent to jail.
Tilico (Jesús Olea is his given name), is given the latest decision about his appeal. He already knows it's been denied. The escape attempt hurt his case. He insists to the director that he is innocent and the real culprit remains free. Why would he continue lying about his innocence all these years? The director wants to know why he tell the truth and at least have the guy investigated. Tilico swears that one day he will get out and get his revenge on the man that put him in jail (Sounds just like Fernando!)
Tilico overheard the argument between Bruno's pregnant wife and Augie. Mrs. Bruno talked to Blanca and now she knows Augie set up Fernando to kill her husband and that Augie stole Fernando's fortune. She isn't like Blanca, though. She's going to go talk to the lawyers and if Augie sets foot outside the house, the police will be waiting to arrest him (I really don't think I got that right.) Augie grabs her and she tells him not to hurt her. She's pregnant. Augie throws her down the stairs and she lands at Tilico's feet. She's dead. Tilico is mortified and says he will call the police. Augie tells him that it's Tilico's lowly chauffeur word against Augie's big, rich, well-known lawyer word.
The baby was born and stayed with Tilico in the dump until his trial date was set (WTF?) After his sentencing the baby stayed at the dump, but not under Rita's care. She already had her hands full with Centavito and La Gata. I'm all ready for him to announce that it's Damian when he drops the bomb: they called the baby GARABATO!!! (I was surprised. Were y'all surprised? I guess not. I'm kinda dull when it comes to TNs.) Little Garabato has no idea he's got a fortune waiting for him (And this is why I don't think I understood Blanca and Augie very well. If Augie and Bruno were working together to do illegal things like rob from Fernando and that comes out in the open...then is Garabato still legally entitled to Bruno's estate? I guess you can't really convict a dead man...)
Tilico is going to keep quiet though. He's not going to tell anyone about what he knows (He gave no names in his retelling. I only added them for clarity and in the flashback it was clear to Viewerville who it was.) The only thing that has kept Tilico going is his thirst for revenge (again, shades of Fer.) He doesn't give a hoot about Garabato or his life.
Garabato visits Ines and tells her that he thinks Gisela will help him get revenge on La Gata. He just needs to figure out how to approach her.
Osorio also seems to be making an opening statement. The defense wants Augie to be barred from practicing law for life! And they want ads to be taken out in all the major papers clearing Fernando's name. In Augie's rebuttal he claims he is innocent. Mariano interrupts to ask if Augie really believes the sarta (string [fig]) of lies he was telling. After the commercial, Augie explains that there was a meticulous investigation and he defended Fernando to the best of his abilities (See? I'm dull. It never even occurred to me that Augie was able to get Fer put away and have access to his fortune because he was the defending lawyer! How did I miss that?) Augie begins to explain about a document that irrefutably proves his innocence, but again Mariano interrupts to explain that Augie had stolen the BPOE. Augie falls out! His sons run to his aid and beg the judge for a recess so they can take him to a hospital. He might be having another stroke. Gisela feels the need to get up and call them hypocrites as they are the ones that did this to Augie by turning their back on him.
(Oh, and somewhere in that scene Fer makes an impassioned speech to the judge about clearing his name and being able to tell Esmeralda that she is his and Blanca's daughter. Too bad Blanca and Esme were out in the hallway. At this rate, he's not going to tell her until he's walking her down the aisle in the final episode.)
At the cruddy apartment, the doctor explains that Augie is in an alcoholic coma and is going to need a liver transplant--an expensive liver transplant. He is also going to need expensive treatments. Pablo tries to explain to the doc that they don't have much money. Gisela reminds Pablo that if he'll just leave La Gata, he can have his money freed up to save his dad. Pablo kicks her out.
Low later tells Augie that she is going to guilt trip Pablo into accepting Gisela's offer. She will tell Pablo how important it is to forgive and will feign that she has forgiven Augie even though in truth she hates him. She tells Augie he is going to owe her big time. Augie remarks what a monster Low has become. Low says she's only become what he made her.
There is what I consider a filler conversation between Fer and Mariano. The judge wants the trial to continue with Mariano acting in his dad's defense. Fer wanted to clear his name, but not at the cost of Augie's health (which sounds very different from the tune he was singing about 50 episodes ago.)
Low is a guilt trip artist. She turns on the water works and asks Pablo what he wouldn't do to save one of his children. Wouldn't he do anything?
Pablo steps out into the hall and calls Esme. He wants to know if she doubts his love. She tells him she will never doubt his love. Doubt has caused them enough trouble. He tearfully tells her to always remember he loves her. Don't doubt that.
Pablo goes to see Gisela. He tells her not to act innocent. They both know why he's there.
Esme offers Mariano the 50,000 pesos (about 3397 US dollars...still seems like a lot of bead stringing to me.) to help with Augie's medical costs. Mariano monologues about it not being enough to cover Augie's 2 million dollar surgery, but it's worth so much more just coming from Esme.
Gisela wants marriage and will take nothing less! It's Pablo's choice. Marriage for his dad's life and his mom's happiness.
Esme has a bad feeling.
Pablo just wants to know when he can get his money. Gisela says as soon as their married. How about today at 7? (I always feel the need to note it when they give a specific time.) She's got all the paperwork ready! Does Pablo accept? Yes. He does.
Oh the f*ckery!

I did not see the big Garabato revelation coming. And I agree--WTF with the baby staying with the accused murderer? With all the loose babies flying around, they make it sound like in Mexico you can just pick up whatever kid you want and as long as it doesn't belong to anybody else, no one cares.
What I still don't understand at the end of all this is what the relationship between Fernando, Bruno, and Augie was before Fernando killed Bruno in self defense. Why would Fernando have trusted Augie to be his defense lawyer if, as Blanca said in flashback, Augie was the one who lied to Fernando and told him that Bruno had a gun so that Fernando would feel like he needed to grab the gun that Augie conveniently placed there for him in order to kill Bruno. Did no one ever tell him there was no gun? And why was Augie doing an investigation to prove that Fernando did it when he was supposed to be Fernando's lawyer?
And why do I keep asking these questions when I know the show isn't going to provide plausible answers?
before that he's not the smartest one in the La Gata crowd. Would someone tell me who Garabato's mother and father is?
Thanks Sara---I will be checking in tomorrow.
David---See what you did!!! Because of you, Augie's liver is now out of commission. What do you have to say now?
the gringo
I always seem to zone out during trial scenes especially in TNs where the audience can just get up and soliloquize and nobody stops them, not even the judge.
Yay, I knew Rita's son would show his face again! And didn't he say something about "he doesn't give a fig about Garabato, who is clueless that he is the heir to his parents' big fortune?"
J in Oregon
There were some exciting flashbacks tonight. More of Fela and Augie, plus a Staircase of Death event. Murder by escaleracide!
Now I see the reason for Scribble's inclusion in our story--he's an unknown heir to a large fortune. Now he can realize his life dreams!
I'm beginning to believe that naive Pablo and obsessed Gisela deserve each other. Their marriage could rival the tenderness of Augie's and Lorenza's wedded bliss.
Ha! Loved Augie's courtroom collapse. Don't know why they took him home instead of the hospital. Was the diagnosis alcoholic coma? Are they going to get in line for a liver or just bribe someone? Doesn't the liver have to match Augie's body chemistry somehow? Let's put Rita's liver into him!
I surf in and out of this one. Every time I come back, I get the same feeling: Pablo is a D.O.P.E. Enough already.
Fatima
Wow! You got a doozy of an episode. Riveting action for LaToodle-oo, that is! Never mind none of it makes any damned sense. (Please refer back to Diva's comment at 11:37)
So Pablo's going to marry Gisela. Big Whoop! What an idiot he is. Yes, let them marry and let Gisela have triplets. There! Compete with that Maldita Gata!
I've just rewatched some scenes and I'm going to add more deets later today. I'm afraid a second watching has only left me with more questions!
Ok, why don't Rita's son want to see his daughter or anyone told him he's gonna be a grandpappy. Tilico is Ines pappy, right?
So, Pablo will not marry Gisela (dump Esmeralda) to help Fernando or Damien but will to save his low life drunkard of a daddy. Bless her heart, Esmeralda is a halfwit to continue to think this guy a prize. Hell even a child will finally accept there ain't a santa.
3k from stringing plastic beads is a lot of stringing.
La Paloma-I added more to Augie's diagnosis. Yes, he was in an alcoholic coma (coma etílico) which I wrote in my notes, but completely forgot to put in last night since he was up and talking before the end of the episode. And I loved your quip about Pabs and Gi being meant for each other. I think you may be right. What a bola de estupidez Pablo is.
You are correct, J in Oregon Tilico doesn't give a hoot about Garabato doesn't have a clue about his fortune. OH, and how will Ines react to that? I'm almost annoyed that she may have a fortune in her future...or at least her child. Ok. The babe is innocent and Garabato is trying to do the right thing, but I just can't seem to muster any sympathy for Ines.
Thanks for dropping by Fatima I'm willing to bet that most of us aren't watching this very religiously. Even the recappers (myself included) admit to not really watching closely unless it's their night!
I'm glad things got cleared up for you gringo I tried to make things a little clearer in my recap as well.
Now I will be selfishly hoping that the great Garabato clean up is one of my episodes to recap! And I'm with you Kat if Carrlos is also in a suit I may faint.
Top o'the morning to you, too Corazon!!
If Garabato finds out who his parents were, that might give him additional motivation to go after Esme, as the daughter of his father's "killer." Maybe Esme would be in danger because Tilico always knew who Esme and Garabato were and could potentially spill the frijoles? It's really a stretch. Honestly, when they were talking about Tilico being a danger to Esme, I originally thought that it was either because she was the one who ratted him out or because he was a pedophile.
Anyway, as far as Garabato's inheritance, who knows if there's any of it left. Unless Augie stole that too, it would have gone to some other relative or just "the state."
As for Esme's $3K for making jewelry in a space of, what, a couple of weeks? Do they seriously not know how many people have tried to sell handmade goods? And that, in general, the public assumes that handmade = cheap crap? I had no idea Eau de Protagonista could have such far-reaching effects that it causes start-up companies to be an instant success.
I have a story to tell, my sister was in the hospital a few months ago and her roommate who was a somewhat famous actress, the woman had a drinking problem and refused to get any help. The doctor looked at her and said "you need a liver transplant, but they won't put you on the list if you are still drinking, you need to be sober before they consider you for a transplant", she looked at him and just said "I don't want to stop drinking"- I know this is a telenovela, and a bad one at that but still, livers don't grow on trees, and don't they have insurance in Mexico?
Kat- I always figured he was a pedophile, too. And why did Tilico say Rita had her hands full with Centavito and La Gata, but there was NO MENTION of Ines??? Aren't she, La Gata, Centavito and Garabato about the same age?
Eli, all my medical knowledge comes from watching TV medical dramas and even that is enough to know that there's no point giving a new liver (or part of a liver) to someone who's continuing to drink. They'd just kill it off again!
If Augie can't afford the operation, don't they have something like a Mexicaid who could pay for it? I really don't know anything about Mexican insurance or health care delivery.
How did they keep that baby alive after Mrs. Bruno was killed?
Gringo; how do I feel after supplying all that booze to Augie? I feel the way Babe Ruth did when he was being heckled by the crowd; he pointed his bat at the center outfield bleachers, and then smacked a homer out to the spot he had indicated.
David
I'm not assuming Ines is Tilico's daughter. There are too many unknown parent-child configurations in this deal, it's like playing musical chairs with babies. Is there any mystery surrounding Damian's father also? I will wait for someone on Caray to spell it out for me. Meanwhile, waiting in the wings for a scrubbed up Garabato, Carlos in a suit, etc.
J in O
So a spiffy Garabato, a suited Carrlos and a pretty wedding dress. Three things I will focus on to get me through the next 37 episodes.
The Garabato revealation surprised me as well. I was not expecting that at all.
I was also shocked to see Tilico looking decently in the flashback.
"How did they keep that baby alive after Mrs. Bruno was killed?"
I was thinking the same. Mrs. Bruno didn't appear pregnant in the flashback.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one surprised by the Garabato revelation. Of course, when I really think about it Damian is a little older than Esme and the rest. So I guess he really can't be the baby.
It would have made more sense for Mrs Bruno to survive the fall and at least made it to a hospital.
Sara: omigosh! The pear floating in red jello in the sidebar is me! My commenter name on Fuego en la Sangre was "Creemelo".
:o)
J in Oregon
I never think too hard about these things because I'm always wrong when I do!
I sure thought that things were going too smoothly for too long between Esme and Pablo. Why wasn't I surprised at Gisela's proposal. Did we really need another mini plot of a marriage that isn't going to happen?
In the avances they show Gi in wedding attire so we know they'll at least get dressed for it. I wonder how this boda will get interrupted.
J in O
This is the second time I've seen Monika Sanchez in the "obsessed with the galan" role and the last time, her "wedding" day didn't go to well either. At least, I'm hoping this "wedding" to Pablo ends up in disaster for her. Hey, if she marries him and then bites it, does he get her money too?
Latoodle-oo logic is very strange indeed.
This story makes less and less sense.
*facepalm*
Mr. LN says "There is so much I don't understand about this story."
Dog gone it, Mariano done turned into a wimp boy too over the last week. Somebody, anybody, stand up kick some ass.
When Mariano went into the hall outside the courtroom, it seemed he could hear the proceedings or was that just in his head? If he could hear, why couldn't Esmeralda hear Fernando declare he was her father when she was out there with Fela?
I heard not one shred of evidence presented in court.
Gisela...holy cow...she is a piece of work.
Fatima
Fatima, Daniel Arenas in my mind has already become Max Baer. The only reason I watched this one was because of him, hoping, erroneously, it was not a repeat of his CI character. I'm convinced this is his wheelhouse and all he can do and he can't act. I involuntarily laugh now when he is on screen, do not think him hot any longer, and wonder what I ever saw in the guy. I think another actor in Pablo's role could have made me believe the obsessive devotion of Esmeralda to a dolt.
Fatima and tofie: I'm going to cling to Daniel's one really good performance: Willy Boy.
I cringe at every "mi amor" between Pabs and Esme. I don't know if it's the frequency or these two characters in particular, but it's grating. Maybe it's that they're either fighting or "mi amor"-ing and there's nothing in between.
I'll confess, I never paid any attention to Garabato before and I'm annoyed they've revealed his origins but not Carlos' yet.
Something tells me Pablo thinks Gisela will turn over the money after a simple "I do" and that he can skip consummation. Should be funny when Gisela demands her "rights."
I don't know, I suppose I should cut the guy some slack, but this seems like CI all over again. The guy has no brains.
Fatima
Is it just me or does every one else see it?
Fatima
Again, I will hang in until the end, and complain the entire time. Thanks again for the great comments to all of you who contribute.
Luckily things seem to be picking up on the show. I'll still be complaining right along with you though!
Everyone- I keep thinking about Willy Boy and his interactions with Lucia. They were so much sweeter and I believed how much he loved her. Pabs and Esme leave me cold.
