La Malquerida #87, 12/25/14
Looks like Univision expects we'll all be home watching our telenovelas on Christmas day. Let's discuss what drama unfolded while we were digesting our holiday dinners. If Diana is able to tear herself away from family for a few hours, you'll find her recap in the comments. If not, let's discuss anyway!
Labels: malquerida
Can't wait for recap.
Ann-NYC
Can't say that I have much sympathy for Perla or Rubio over the loss of Memo. Very happy to see Dan lose a lot of money, and to know it will also throw a wrench in Este's plans. Ha!
#87
Fasten Your Seatbelts. It’s going to be a Bumpy Night.
Part 1
Perla finally utters the words Ale has been waiting to hear. She asks Ale to help her escape. Ale is thrilled and agrees. She will find another way to get Estrella to freedom. They hug and Perla’s smile brightens the room as she thanks Ale and closes the door behind her.
After, Ale confides her history with Danilo to Estrella. She explains that she escaped but returned because Dan has threatened everyone she loves. Estrella is beside herself with worry for her younger brothers. Ale promises she will work to stop that from occurring and urges her to pretend she is still ill. Estrella says she would rather not live than to face the future Danilo has in mind for her. Hugs and support from Ale.
Cris has a heart to heart talk with German as Manuel watches. Cris asks him to remember that Juli has always not only encouraged, but supported his painting. She deserves to be invited. Clearly uncomfortable, German asserts that Cris is simply not aware of all the additional reasons that went into his decision. Fully understanding the unspoken meaning (Juli’s treatment of Luisa and her callous disregard of her child and Juli’s grandchild), Manuel puts his hand on German’s shoulder. German says he cannot discuss it but does say he is concerned about how Juli will treat Carmen. Cris feels she can talk to Juli to avert any antagonism. Manuel agrees that Juli should be invited. Cris is pleased when German agrees – German? Not so much.
Rubio is shocked when Acacia hands her suitcase to him. Esteban is startled as he arrives and asks where she is going. As he clutches her hand, Acacia rips it away and before she can retort, Manuel appears and asks if she is ready. She simply states she is leaving. Cris arrives and she kisses her mother on the cheek. To Esteban (whose mouth is agape), she simply says “goodbye Esteban” and walks off. Color Esteban very unhappy. He takes his frustration out on Rubio, tossing him across the room.
Danilo enters Estrella’s room and noting Estrella’s severe cough, takes a handkerchief (his version of universal precautions) to shield himself from infection. He seems to be convinced Estrella is not doing well. He covers his mouth with his handkerchief and leaves, his visit mercifully brief.
Juan Carlos and Elena ask if Acacia is going to San Jacinto. Cris tells them Acacia is confused and needs time alone to think. She thanks her parents for their support.
Luisa is in the kitchen when Rubio sternly questions her about Manuel and Acacia.Luisa says she doesn’t know where Manuel took Acacia. Luisa clutches her stomach as she thinks of her child’s father with less than endearing thoughts.
Acacia and Manuel stop at Lizzy’s little shop for provisions.
Este frantically calls Acacia, literally beside himself. He fumes as Acacia tells him nothing.
Manuel asks Acacia if all is well – she lies and says it is.
Ale writes a message for Uli which she tucks in her bra for safekeeping. Estrella sleeps as Dan re-emerges with his protective “mouthpiece”. She quickly wipes his kiss from his mouth in disgust.
German and Juli talk as he relays his reservations about how Juli will conduct herself. He says the expo is very important and he is worried how she will treat Carmen. Juli leaves in tears as he looks upset but exasperated.
Diana
At the exposition, the guests seem more interested in interacting with each other than viewing the paintings. It is a night filled with longing, yearning looks, hurt, resentment and anger as emotions run high and the air is rife with tension.
We see several happy couples posing happily for pictures - German and Lizzy, Art and Luisa and Carmen and Andres. All are clearly enjoying themselves and each other, close family and friends bonding on a wonderful occasion. Unfortunately, Juli and Norberto show up and the festive party atmosphere dampens quickly, When Juli insists on joining the group for a picture, smiles dissipate and everyone quickly disperses. To his credit, Norberto hugs German and congratulates him, with what appears to be genuine sincerity and affection. German seems pleased and touched, rewarding Norberto with a beaming smile.
Hector and Cris are also there, enthusiastic, supportive and proud of German. Hector’s assistant looks like a goddess in a striking purple gown. Thankfully, she left her perpetual frown at home and is gracious and accommodating and is even wearing a smile! Andres and Carmen hug and kiss as Juli stares. Manuel and Acacia are also in attendance, as Uli silently watches. Manuel puts his arm around Acacia in a possessive gesture as Ale looks regretful.
Memo sneaks a call to Perla. Their faces mirror their love and desire to be together. I love you Perla asserts.
Juli snakes to the front of the room as German begins his speech. Uninvited party crasher Danilo and Ale arrive. Danilo brought party favors in the form of a menacing rather large gun.
German calls out several individuals to thank including Cris and his father to which Andres smiles and steps forward as Norberto looks crushed. He then thanks Lizzy as Ale looks devastated. German stares at Ale as he and Lizzy cut the ribbon and kiss. German, in another uncharacteristically unkind gesture, appears to rub Lizzy and the kiss in Ale’s face.
German confronts Danilo as to why he is there. He starts to go after him as Hector interferes, pulling German back. Danilo smiles that loathsome smarmy grin as Hector tells Dan off. Ale is heartbroken remembering Dan destroying German’s painting of Ale. Lizzy confronts Ale but before much is said, Ale tearfully runs off.
German returns to his usually happy countenance with Cris and Hector as they voice their support and pleasure. Cris asks Carmen to speak to her and is rewarded with a frosty stare. Cris tries to apologize but Carmen says she will never forgive her. Cris says she understands. Andres tries to intervene on Cris’ behalf but to no avail. Andres looks disappointed but takes Carmen’s hands and guides her away.
German hugs Lizzy as Ale stares. German returns her look.
Uli watches Manuel who caresses Ale’s face with his hand (a move he does several times during the course of this night). Luisa comes up and asks Acacia if she is all right and she says yes. Luisa takes her away. Uli and Ale stare at each other, Ale’s eyes wide. Acacia then steps in front of Uli to talk about Danilo. She says nothing is wrong between Ale and Danilo as Ale peers at him behind a pillar.
Juli roughly grabs Luisa (who is catering the event), taking a sample of food, making a disgusted face and turning her nose up. Arturo intervenes and Juli appears to sarcastically congratulate her for moving on. Luisa puts Juli in her place. Later, Norberto grabs her as Jui is about to go over to Andres who is wrapped up in Carmen’s arms. Norberto taunts her as Dan arrives. Juli flounces out as Carmen makes sure Juli sees her kiss Andres passionately.
Manuel sidles up to Cris trying to flatter her as usual. Hector (and we) are unimpressed. Cris says what a wonderful friend Hector is. Hector looks crestfallen (but not nearly as disappointed as viewerville) that Cris does not share any of his romantic feelings.
Arturo creates a diversion for Uli by so Ale can give Uli the note she wrote.
Diana
Este cries in his beer to Danilo who informs him he just saw Acacia at the expo. Salud they toast. Este beats one of several hasty retreats this night as Rubio sidles up. Danilo gets a call from one of his workers – there is a serious problem and Rubio is upset as Memo is mentioned. Dan takes off and a worried Rubio tries to call Memo.
Manuel comes in with a snack and juice for Acacia (looks like yummy salsa topping). She has hardly taken one bite when she receives yet another desperate text from Este. Manuel asks Acacia what’s wrong. She states it’s not only Uli but many things including her mother and Esteban. Manuel thanks her for confiding in him. Acacia says she wants to be alone. Manuel says he cares very much for her and leaves. Acacia gets another message from Este asking why she isn’t responding, Acacia is frustrated.
Uli and Arturo have a onversation. I believe it is about the note and something about a pay phone. Can someone fill in here?
Lizzy and German celebrate as both smile and Lizzy asserts she is happy, German tries to tell Lizzy, himself and us that he is not interested in Ale. Este shows up, ostensibly to congratulate German. Naturally, German apologizes for not inviting him due to the situation with Cris. Este waves off the apology, because after all, he is only there to interrogate them about Acacia and could care less about the exposition and any success German might be having. Este asks about Acacia’s whereabouts. He then states he’s sorry for interrupting but leaves despite German’s asking him to stay. Why should he? He got what he wanted.
Norberto and Juli discuss German with love and pride. Well, as much as they are capable of. Juli takes advantage of Norberto’s mood by trying to seduce her husband. After striking out so many times recently, this time it appears she will succeed.
Rubio arrives at Dan’s and gravely tells Perla there is a problem. Dan arrives on Rubio’s heels and says everything is not all right. I believe the gist of it is that their operation was raided. Memo is dead. Perla is shocked and riddled with pain.
Coming: Este tracks down Acacia and proceeds to manhandle her as Acacia tires to break away.
Diana
I'm very grateful for all I have and all of those whom I have in my life. My hub, who is a regional truck driver is away a great deal of the time. He is home for only a brief time but instead of pouting that my recapping took several hours from our time together, knew how important it was for me to do this and encouraged, not discouraged me.
I always respected the recappers time but have an even greater appreciation as I now see (on a much smaller scale) how much it takes to create these. Vivi and Gloria who have done this twice a week for months now have my greatest respect.
Thank you to everyone who reads and comments. Your words are greatly appreciated and your insights are wonderful.
Merry Christmas all!
Diana
I think Acacia was much more interested in Este when he wasn't available (I believe tofie noted this earlier today)...And of course, Este's relentless pursuit of Acacia is drawing her further from him, not toward him.
Look forward to discussing more tomorrow.
Diana
"Juli snakes to the front of the room as German begins his speech. Uninvited party crasher Danilo and Ale arrive. Danilo brought party favors in the form of a menacing rather large gun." Stellar
Gosh, this one was worth the price of admission and too bad Esteban didn't show up too but loved all the hit and run.
TF, friendzoned Hector, exactly, and compared to Manuel, no less.
Esteban is a runaway train.
Oh, Diana, Uli told Art he called the police with the information from Ale and Art freaked a bit but Uli said he called from a pay phone and the tip was anonymous. Thankfully the popo acted on it.
Loved the look on Danny's face when he found out his shipment was busted. Kaboom.
Here are some elaborations:
-JC and Elena thought that Elena at least should accompany Acacia to their house in San Jacinto, but Cris tells them that Acacia wants some alone time. They were both very skeptical about it. Later the two of them decide not to go to the art exposition in San Miguel because JC doesn’t want to leave Rubio alone in charge of the hacienda and wants to keep an eye on him. Cris thanks them for helping her with the hacienda.
-Norberto offered to buy the most expensive of German’s paintings, and German told him to buy one that he likes, then gets worried that Norb doesn’t like any of them. Norb beams and says he likes all of them, which made German smile from ear to ear. Later that night, Norb stares happily at the piece that he bought. The thing that makes him most proud and happy, is that his son who will one day be a famous painter signed his painting German Palacios, not Vivanco. This put him in the mood for loving with Juli.
-In his speech, German thanked the family who raised him (Norb, Juli, Manuel), his father (Andres), Cris, and a special woman who has supported him and helped him through the tough times…Lizzy.
-Lizzy confronted Ale and asked how dare she come here and ruin German’s special moment. Ale said she didn’t want to and asked Lizzy to send her apologies to German. German later asks Lizzy what Ale said to her and she conveys the message. German says that is was probably her husband’s doing then, but in any case, he’s determined to forget Ale.
-After Juli taunts Luisa that she’s found another idiot to take care of her (Art), Luisa shoots back that she’s not like Juli—she knows how to work to support herself, and would never do something like foisting off one man’s child on another man.
-Cris, sandwiched between (father and son actors) Hector and Manuel, said that Manuel is to Acacia what Hector is to her—their best friends. Neither Hector nor Manuel were happy with being friend-zoned.
-Ale told Uli to make sure the tip could not be traced back to him, when she handed him the note about the drug deal. Later we learn that he made the tip anonymously from a pay phone.
-Efrain called Dan to say that the police caught them on the Rio Chico road, there was a shootout, most of their guys died and he thinks Memo is among the, Efrain and one other guy are the only ones who escaped.
I wish that Uli had told Acacia off when she once again accused him of using Ale as a pretext for seeing her. Get over yourself, Acacia!
I thought that Cris was very gracious about Carmen telling her off. That's the way to do it. Just because you apologize to someone doesn't mean they HAVE to accept it. I wish other characters, like Juli, would realize that and stop bugging the people they are apologizing to.
Ann, I too am awaiting to see what happens with Perla!
TF, tofie and Vivi, thank you for exactly what was said as Hector got "friendzoned" (great one tofie!) I thought Manuel got included in what Cris said but couldn't quite catch it. Makes perfect sense she compared Hector and Manuel to her and Acacia's besties. Ouch!
tofie, thanks also for clarifying how the bust went down.
Vivi, so appreciate your sparkling added details. I especially liked your relating the painting buying by Norberto and that he told German he liked all of them. It's fine by me that he was proud "that his son who will one day be a famous painter signed his painting German Palacios, not Vivanco. I would be bursting with pride also.
I am wondering - is it possible Norberto will be redeemed? Gulp. Well, stranger things have happened!
I'm very worried for Ale. I am praying Dan stays away from that nightstand! I would hope Ale ditched the non-working phone but when would she have had the chance?? Dan likely follows her into the ladies room for heaven's sake.
Thanks for the kind words all.
Diana
Maybe Memo didn't get killed?? I kinda feel sorry for Perla now. I hope he makes it, but he did some awful things.
But that Juli is one leech!! But she has no pride. She just can't accept that she is not wanted.
And Norb, even though I found him obnoxious at times, his recent dealings with German make me like him.
But thanks so, so much for such an exciting recap.
Hope everyone's Christmas was great!!
Ann-NYC
Diana- Norb is definitely showing some better aspects of his personality in his most recent dealings with German. The fear of losing German has tapped into some of his more tender feelings. Will that totally redeem him by the end? I'm not sure. Perla is also on a crooked path to redemption, but like Norb, it's hard to tell exactly where that will lead. Juli refuses to change, and for that reason it seems like she will have a lonely and unhappy end.
I share your sentiments about Norberto. I also am starting to soften (never thought that would happen ;))
This story never fails to delight and excite.
Diana
If he survived, what a perfect opportunity for Memo to escape.
And yes, Norberto is trying to change. Juli, unfortunately, is not. I wonder how both will handle things when it becomes obvious Luisa is having a child. Their grandchild. That will be pivotal.
Diana
I would like to see Memo and Perla make it out of this alive and redeemed.
I hadn't thought Memo survived until Vivi pointed out he might have escaped. Anything is possible as we've seen and nothing is certain.
Diana
I think Memo is alive. If he's dead I will miss his beautiful eyes. I do think he and Perla deserve to be happy together. If he's alive he better be careful not to let Dan find out.
When Dan told Ale he was taking her out I was surprised BUT as soon as that scene changed I immediately realized where he was going to take her. Poor Ale. She did seem really embarrassed at Germán's exhibition. I guess it was Dan who mainly caused the drama and not Juli.
However, no one saw the little scene Juli almost caused with Luisa. However, Luisa knew how to stand up for herself. Juli was probably surprised that Luisa knew about Andres and Germán.
It was interesting to basically see Cris compare Hector to Manuel regarding how she and Acacia feel about them as friends. Hector was crushed.
You have to admit that Juliana is persistent..if delusional. It really infuriated me when she tossed that canapé back on the tray. Watching and listening to her , we are reminded that people with low self esteem put others down to raise up themselves in their own twisted minds. Even though I do not understand much , I knew that Luisa stood up for herself and let her tormentor know that she did not need a man to take care of her like Juliana.
Also, it was fun to watch Norb in his pjs staring at German's painting. I guess the booze he drank at the exposition had something to do with hm surrendering to Juliana's second negligee attempt.
I hope that Dan and Perla do not find out that Ale provided the information that got the police to do the drug bust.
Although Hector and Manuel were friend zoned, I think that Hector and Cris will end up together as more than friends, I once tried to friend zone someone...but he was persistent. We've been married for a long time. It is good to marry someone you like,
Este doomed has gone around the bend at this point. Gee, what part of "no" doesn't he understand. I guess that you put all your eggs into the wrong basket..dumbass.
For the first time, Rubio looked truly concerned about another person...Memo. Also, when Este was taking his frustration out on Rubio, he seemed to be getting tired of being the dog that Este kicks whenever things do not go his way with Ack. Perhaps Rubio is getting ready to turn and bite one of his masters.
I am getting a kick out of Este's crazed look as he tries to track down his prey that has managed to slip away from him. Those eyebrows are almost perpetually up now. Pobrecito. You are going down...down...down. You are going to lose you stole from Alonso. Was she worth it ? You can tell it all to your cell mate...or the devil.
Although I have some sympathy for what led Perla into this life, I cannot so easily forget how she treated Ale, and the countless other girls she admits to hurting for Dan. And Memo is the same. When I remember how he allowed Pat to rape Itzel, and how he treated Uli and the migrant workers, I want him to suffer too. I'm glad he and Peels discovered love with each other, but also not going to cry for either of them if things end badly for them.
You simply have to tell your husband that so many of us here love and admire your incredibly thoughtful insights on so MANY of these TN. Please thank him for me and tell him that I see you as my amiga.
Vivi in DC, holy cow, lady! You NEVER miss a beat! Thank you, thank you!
Like in "Robo", there are a number of women here who can be "La Malquerida". So many people were robbed of so many things in "Robo". So many women here have had the wrong kind of love.
I am now finding self centered Acacia to be VERY boring; VERY.
For Perla's sake, I am hoping Memo survived.
Fatima
Fatima
Susanlynn, thank you for your kind words. I agree Rubio did seem genuinely concerned about Memo. I do believe he also cares about Luisa and Rosa. It's a small circle but he is a fierce defender when someone is threatened. Loved your comment "Perhaps Rubio is getting ready to turn and bite one of his masters".
Fatima, you are so very kind and supportive. Gracias amiga. I appreciated your thoughtful comment "So many women here have had the wrong kind of love".
Indeed!
Diana
Perla was so cruel to Ale. However, I have to say though if Perla makes it through to the end without any further heinous, aggressive acts toward Ale, and if Ale can forgive her, I feel I must too.
Diana
I am always hoping for positive change in situations and people. The ONLY reason I want Memo to survive (FULLY realizing his very significant and unforgivable behaviors), is that if he survives, then Perla will focus on him and not on what else she can do to harm Ale.
Ale has suffered way too much in this TN. I do not know if I could survive the suffering she has endured. So, Memo surviving is a back door way of getting some relieve for our Ale.
Fatima
It is interesting that thevwriters did not have Memo actually be the one to rapevItzel. Maybe they felt that that way Memo might still be redeemed. We shall see. Yikes, I have chores and packing to do. I have to stay away from here and get some things done.
There was more going on than I could keep track of.
Thank you Diana. Long haul truck driving is a hard and dangerous job. The drivers don't get to spend much time at home with their families. The hours of your shortened family time that you have given us is so very much appreciated.
Thank you Vivi for helping out also. I REALLY, REALLY wanted to know what Luisa told nasty nose in
the air Juli last night. That little lady can fight. Good for her. She left Juli speechless.
Juli is just so disgusting. Her attitude to anyone (Luisa) that she perceives as below her in social standing is just so disgusting--I need a stronger word. Who gave her the I'm better than everyone attitude? She even has hurtful dark thoughts for Cris. WHAT IS IT WITH THIS WOMAN?
Danilo smiles that loathsome smarmy grin. That loathsome smarmy grin gives me the creeps.
I really have to give it to the cast---there are many Oscar winning performances.
An example---Africa Zavala blew me away last night and she wasn't saying a word, she said it all, communicated to Ulises just with her eyes. She gave us every emotion while saying next to nothing while at the exhibit. There was fear, desperation, urgency, love,, hurt
sorrow and probably other emotions that I cant think of right now. I sat there mesmerized,
What a performance by this actress.
A terrible thought. I don't know why but I didn't think of it before. Juliana will be the grand mother to Luisa's baby. Oh no!!
Is Memo dead? I guess that we will find out tonight but even if he is, Perla does not know that it was Ale that gave the tip.
must see tv tonight.
the gringo
And yes, Juliana and Norberto will be godparents. That is why I felt how they handle this will be crucial. Norberto may accept the child, I fear Juli will not. Juli is not only an elitist, class conscious, arrogant snob, she is cruel and vindictive.
I hold out little hope for her.
Diana
I saw a hint of sadness in Germán's eyes when he was staring at Ale while hugging Lizzy.
I bet Acacia will be surprised if Este tells her that he found out where she was from Germán.
Norbie and Perla are slowly on the road to redemption. It's nice to see Norbie support German and that Germán still calls him dad. Ale is slowly opening up Perla's eyes and making her see that she can have a better life outside the brothel.
Danilo enters Estrella’s room and noting Estrella’s severe cough, takes a handkerchief (his version of universal precautions)
Este waves off the [German’s] apology, because after all, he is only there to interrogate them about Acacia and could care less about the exposition and any success German might be having.
I’m in the Memo-could-still-be-alive camp. Not that I care about him after he let Itzel get raped. But it seems strange that we didn’t get to see the police takedown of Memo and the others.
Yay, Carmen wouldn’t make up with Cris! I like Cris, but she and Carmen becoming friendly again would help pry open the door for that stepdaddy kisser to get back with Uli.
Juliana was so intent on dissing Luisa that she showed how déclassé she (Juliana) is – picking up a canapé, bringing it up to her nose, and then putting it back on the tray. Yuck!
I am truly amazed Danilo’s tailored suit hides that biga$$ gun so well.
Ale looked so hangdog at the exposition and idiot Acacia is telling Uli not to start stuff about Ale because the girl is fine. I almost forget that Acacia is the one that knows more of Ale’s story than anyone. Imbecile.
Now I hate the little self-centered princess even more.
*grumble*
Hubby drove locally and was home nightly until about 5 years ago when he started the regional job. It was he who first got me to watch TNs - Destilando Amor was my first. After I saw EY, the rest is history so to speak. (I know he is one of your favs as well). He is rarely able to watch and simply misses too much to comment but the few times he has, he keeps murmuring about Alberto Estrella whom he remembers from Pasion. What a change!
Your description of Juli as "déclassé" was perfect!
I'm a little surprised we didn't see the raid, or any portion of it either. I believe there are 116 episodes and if this ends on January 16th as the promos indicate, there is going to be a lot of action on Uni's cutting floor. I wonder if this was something that ended up there.
Diana
What was so wrong with celebrating the successful evening with comfort food? Beer and quesadillas. Substitute the beer for a Mexican agua fresca, and I'm in!
With most TNs there are fillers. I don't think I've missed an episode and I can't think of anything that was repetitive, boring or a waste of air time.
Diana
I breathed a sigh of relief that this wasn't banished to daytime or late night due to the ratings, but to cut that much this close to the end (as you noted) is unfathomable. Shame on Univision. We, the faithful viewing audience deserve so much more!
I am leaving for Jersey early tomorrow morning and will likely not see any of the episodes next week. I am spending time with my aunt who helped raise me who is turning 95 next month and my brothers. I won't be bringing my laptop so I will have a lot of catching up to do when I return next weekend.
I may try to comment later but if I don't, I wish all of you a happy and safe New Year.
Diana
But like I said before, I also applaud Cris for the way she graciously accepted Carmen's rebuff of her apology.
Please be safe. We will be here waiting for both of you.
Vivi in DC, I am really dreading the chop job they are going to do on this TN. It's just not fair. We are Viewerville! Why are the messing with us this way?!
