La Malquerida, capitulo 84. 12/22/14. Acacia sinks deeper and deeper.

the old....
Ale calls Ulises and says she will tell him everything he wants to know. She has some proof but doesn't know if it's enough. He asks if she knows who kidnapped him. Before she can answer any questions, she quickly hangs up as she hears Danilo unlocking the door. He looks at her in her agitated state and asks if something is wrong. She says she wants to go to bed and heads into the bathroom. He is suspicious and looks at the night table. He finds some candy but doesn't look further.
Acacia tells Esteban enough tonsil hockey and tells him he has to go. He promises to see her tomorrow. She has a silly looking smile on her face. Oh young love....with creepy step daddy.
Ale asks if he has already put Estrella to work. Not yet replies Danilo. I came to be with you instead. He suggests watching a movie together but she isn't in the mood. I have never asked anything of you and it hurts that you don't make an effort to appease me. He decides to give Estrella a few days before introducing her to her new job. Ulises tells Arturo that he had reason to think ill of Danilo. He just confirmed with Ale that her husband is shady. She was going to spill the frijoles but had to quickly hang up. She sounded frightened. He decides to call the police but Arturo stops him. He advises him to wait until Ale calls back again or suggests calling her back. Danilo opens the door to Ulises and asks him what he wants. Ale runs up and asks Ulises if he stopped by to speak to Perla about the store. Ulises is about to say he came for Ale but she silently tells him to zip it. Danilo shouts for Perla and Julianita runs up and says she left for the doctor. Ulises says he will return later. Danilo stops him and apologizes for the way he acted earlier with him. It's in the past replies Ulises. Danilo says any friend of his wife's is friend of his. Ulises asks if he could pay Ale a visit sometime. Danilo agrees. Ulises leaves and Danilo tells Ale that Ulises had better have been there to visit Perla. He no longer wants him to set foot in his house again. So see what you can do to ensure he doesn't return again.
Luisa is in Dona Betty's store looking at baby shoes when Acacia walks in. She hides but Acacia spots her. They ask each other what they are doing and both lie. Luisa tells her that Ale wants to talk to her but Acacia says Ale is no longer her friend. Ale said the same but didn't want to elaborate replies Luisa. But she is worried about you. Acacia says to tell Ale to stop worrying. She fixed everything with her mother and there is no more reason to be concerned. Luisa spots Acacia's ring and asks who gave it to her.
Esteban finally shows his face and Cris is happy to see him. He wants to know what she needed. Is it about the hacienda? We can start with that but there are other things replies Cris. Good because I have things to tell you too says Esteban.
Acacia says she bought the ring for herself. The saleslady brings a package and tells Luisa the price of the baby shoes. Luisa lies and says it's to decorate a baby shower. The saleslady tells Acacia that her package is ready and if she doesn't like it, she can exchange it. Acacia goes to open it and a card falls out. Luisa picks it up and reads it aloud. “hang it outside your window so that every time you hear it, you dream of me”. Luisa asks what it's about.
Esteban and Cris talk business. Cris finally admits she doesn't like for them to treat each other with such distance. You are the one that wanted it this way points out Esteban. She knows he's upset with the way she treated him the last time they saw each other. He doesn't want to end things badly between them but stay friends instead. And then asks for a divorce.
Acacia explains that it came from Esteban. Now that he is no longer at the hacienda, he sent me this to remember that I can count on him if needed. Luisa thinks it was a nice thought and that they still get along. Even if he is no longer with her mother. To think you once hated him. Now look. Acacia says she has to run and tells Luisa to buy the baby shoes.
Esteban asks why Cris is so surprised with his request. It is what she wanted. You have done everything to push me away from you. She tries to explain that she was in pain over the death of their baby. He says it wasn't her fault it happened. Do you really want a divorce she asks. You are the one that is obligating me to seek one he replies. You know I have loved you but have always respect your decisions. Cris says she doesn't want a divorce. I know I need to get better before making a decision about us. Unless you want..... but he interrupts. We have been together for a long time says Esteban. Together we built up this hacienda. Even though you have thrown me off of this place, I still feel a part of it is mine. We have both worked hard to make a success of this place. Are you saying if we divorce, we need to divide this place asks Cris. No, what I am trying to say is that we have built a good life and a good business says Esteban. But if you need more time to make a decision then take it. Take your time and we will see what the future holds. Cris agrees.
Ulises tells Arturo that Danilo has Ale controlled. She didn't look good. She has a bruise on her eyebrow. That doesn't mean anything replies Arturo. Did you get a chance to talk to her alone? That guy wouldn’t let me says Ulises. I want to help her. Arturo tells him to take his time otherwise he could put her in danger.
Cris says she doesn't want to make a hasty decision especially in the state that she is currently in. I need time to be the woman that you once loved. He says many things has changed. We are not the same people we once where. It's best to take a breather. He also requests that she not mention any of this to anyone especially Acacia. She has gone through enough for her to take on your own personal problems too. She agrees. He tells her no matter what happens, that she is a special person in his life and has marked his life forever. He kisses her hand and tells her she's strong. No matter what life throws you. Remember that.
Ale comes to tell Danilo that the doctor is checking Estrella.
German and Lizy are out enjoying the day together. He has his drawing book out and thanks her for her help. She says she prefers eating with him outside then in the store. He asks about her parents and finds out they are in San Jaciento for the day. They start kissing and she hopes he enjoys what she made for him. I enjoy you says German. They kiss some more and German unzips her jacket. We get a view of his manly chest. Looks like they are going to do the horizontal mambo.
Danilo is excited that the doctor has arrived. Do you know how much my clients will pay for a young girl? He twirls Ale around but she is not amused. No amount of money is good enough for you says Ale. You say you want to gain my love and respect but all you have is my disgust instead. Why do you want more money? No amount of money will buy my love. Did I not promise you that I will have you living like a queen he asks. Yes, but locked up she points out. Do you not realize the more you do this the more it drives me away? He asks why can't she except him the way he is. You promised me something else and if you want my love you will have to complete it. No matter how much I promise you or love you this is a business he replies. She says he has enough money to live a simple life. You understand nothing he replies. When your in this, your in for life. You were my weakness and look what it brought me as he slaps his leg. Then forget that I will want to ever be with you by choice she replies and walks out.
Esteban sneaks up behind Acacia and picks her up. He's teases her and says she's in trouble for not calling to let him know if she liked her gift. She of course loves it. He wants her to think of him every night as she hears it. She asks how his meeting at the association went. Great but I don’t' want to talk about work. He goes to kiss her but she doesn't want to be caught. He suggests his hotel but she doesn't think it's a good idea. He assures her nothing will happen. They will just talk. She's indecisive but he begs her to trust him.
Danilo is on the phone with Johnnie talking business. They hang up and he calls someone and says he has the merchandise just as he promised. Perla comes running in and urges to him to hang up. The doctor checked Estrella. He is glad because the client he has lined up with be here the day after tomorrow. She suggests he cancel because she will not be able to work for some time. What are you talking about he questions. Are you in agreement with Ale? Perla is offended that he would think she would agree with Ale. I am the one that told you to watch yourself around her. Anyway the reason Estrella cannot work is because she has TB (?). Danilo is not happy and if she doesn't work out then he will have to get rid of her.
Esteban is eagerly awaiting Acacia. Knock on the door and the waiter comes with some food he ordered.
Perla thinks he's exaggerating but Danilo wont' waste money on that girl. How can I tell my client that the girl is no longer available? She suggests he just change the date instead. Come up with an excuse. She will be ready in 3 weeks. He says it better be 2. Ale walks in and he says that Estrella just bought herself 2 more weeks without having to work. Ale is happy. He says if she behaves and acts like a passionate woman with him, perhaps he'll think of something for her to do. He leaves and Perla tells her that TB (?). Since you offered to care for her, keep doing it so I wont' get it.
German tells Lizy that being with her brings him peace. He doesn't think about his problems, his family and everything that was bad for him. He wants to get lost in her eyes. Lizy is happy to hear it. She believes in making a beautiful life for those that she loves. He wants to do that same. He wants to make her happy and she assures him he does. He wants to be this way forever and so does she. Suddenly she sits up and says they have a problem. What your dad is here asks German. No, the ants have shown up she replies.
Esteban is getting everything ready for the feast. He picks up his phone but there is a knock on the door. It's Acacia. She comes in and he locks the door. He notices her nervousness and tells her to calm down. No one can see us and I can finally love you freely.
Carmen likes Andres new office. She brought him a picture of the 5 of them. Her with her kids and him with German. He loves it and says it means so much to him. He finally feels like he has a family. He says German finally accepted to take the Vevanco name. Carmen congratulates him. Once that is done, I want to draw up a will so that he, you and your kids are protected. Carmen doesn't think that's necessary. Everything he has should go to his son but he doesn't agree. You are like my wife and your kids mine. Let me do this.
Esteban turns on full seduction mode. He kisses her and she freaks out. Did you think by me coming here.....but he stops her. He says not to worry. He just wanted to be with her where no one will see them. We have it here. Think about it. If I wanted to take your hand and kiss it I can. If I want to kiss the other hand I can. If I ask for a smile you can give me that. He goes in again for a kiss but she pushes him away. She is uncomfortable being alone with him in the room. Why he asks. Nothing will happen that you don't want. He pours her some wine and tells her to enjoy the feast. He says she has no reason to be nervous being in a hotel room with him. Do you not recall when we were it Mexico City, they gave us a honeymoon suite? Yes, but that was an error points out Acacia. Or fate replies Esteban. That night I felt great talking to you and it started these feelings I have for you. That is not how it appeared when you went to the bar and left me alone she replies. I went because I felt bad says Esteban. Because I saw you as a lovely woman and after that I couldn't see you any other way. And that night....I felt you awoke something in me says Acacia. I couldn't sleep after that because I was scared about the way I felt. You see says Esteban. I have always known this. It's destiny and we have to be together. He goes in and this time she doesn't pull away.
Norberto tells Manuel that German doesn't understand how great it is to be a Palacios. I have told him that over and over but he doesn't get it says Manuel. Both boys are drinking. Norberto says everyone admires us. Manuel says German doesn't care about things like that. Perhaps not but what about everything I did for him says Norberto. No father is perfect. We all make mistakes. I've told German that but he comes back about morals and values says Manuel. I have always loved him says Norberto. If I was so hard with him was because I needed to prepare him for life. I showed him how to work. I even paid for his career path. Manuel says he doesn't want to see him again but Norberto reminds him how great German has been with him. He was always taking care of you and defending you against others. I am more hurt then angry. He changes the subject and asks how things are with Acacia. Manuel says she's not paying him any mind. She is so excited about college. Norberto tells him to seek her out. He is putting all his hopes in him.
Back in the hotel, they have made it to the bed. She suddenly panics and says she has to go. He tells her to calm down and not be afraid of what they have. It will be forever. I have talked to Cris and asked for a divorce.
Manana: he admits to Acacia that his jealously is driving him crazy; Ulises comes looking for Acacia and Esteban gets into a fight with him.

Estrella has whooping cough (la tos ferina). She's bought two more weeks for Ale to try to get her out. My brave Ale once again thew herself in harm's way to save someone else, taking the beating Dan intended for panicked Estrella. I really hope Uli can figure out how to help her, without getting either of them killed. I understand why he still refuses to get German involved, but wish he would pull in Hector.

I thought it was an interesting lecture on money vs power that Dan gave Ale. It's not about the money, it's about the power. And if he takes himself out of the game, someone new will come along and step on him.

Manuel made yet (another) huge mistake by severing his ties with German. German is the only loving presence he really had in his life. There is no one to keep him grounded or focused.
Estrella receives a reprieve. Let us hope that continues.

Diana- Yes, I think Acacia is mad at Ale for not taking her in after she had that major tonsil hockey session with Este and then fought with Cris. I think she believes Ale didn't take her in because she doesn't approve. She's only half right. Ale doesn't approve, but Dan (and the brothel) is why she couldn't take her in.

Even if I didn't know that Tofie, I still think you don't throw a marriage away because your spouse did/said some hard things while she was in a (only) 3-week depression after losing your baby (the last one she can have). It shouldn't be that easy to walk away from, if he didn't really want to walk away.
Este is an ass. He is selfish. He and Acacia are perfect for each other. But if something better comes along, I'm sure he'll kick Acacia to the curb, too. She deserves him.

I don't think you end a long marriage over something like this but the public humiliation of a guy(bet the bunk house is howling over the take down), way over the top, and if he wasn't the selfish prick he is, Cris got some butt kissing to do. Even she knows that now.

Whoops..Vivi..just read your comment...Estrella has whooping cough...not TB. I had whooping cough when I was 6. I dreadful disease , but not as bad as TB. See..I told you that I never guess correctly. In college, while my roommate and I were reading Crime and Punishment in our Lit. class, we would look at each other whenever one of us coughed and say ..."consumption ???"

Hmmm..Did German and Lizzy really do the deed this time ? I have not watched this episode yet. If any of you are watching "The Affair" , you are witnessing another story about the way an affair affects so many people around the couple..not just the two people involved. I despise the guy in that show. He reminds me of Este, but I we do not yet know if he is a killer like Este.

PBN- it would be interesting if they did decide to go with an epidemic. But is that expecting too much? Will the writers actually be realistic? I keep thinking about Friday's episode. Estrella coughed into her hand and immediately offered it to Perla, who immediately shook it. Agggh! Perla at least should get sick.
Diana- The writer/director and Albert Estrella were playing with us when tey had Danilo look at the nightstand suspiciously, approach it, and...pick up a candy. Whew!
Let's hope every has their shots up to date so that we don't get an epidemic of whooping cough. They just had a story on the news the other day about how whooping cough is on the rise with kids in the US right now. The parents they showed were hugging and kissing their kids with no fear of contamination, so I figure if you've had shots, you have more of a resistance. Mumps have also made a mysterious resurgence. They were saying on the news that adults might want to renew their vaccinations.
OK. I haven't seen the episode. I did go back and read the recap, did the doctor not seem at all concerned about a patient with whooping cough? Wouldn't he be a little more concerned about knowing who the patient has come in contact with?
Yeah. I guess if everyone has had their shots it should be OK... But then why does 14 year old Estrella even have whooping cough?
Her family is poor, has been living in squalor in D.F., she has two little brother (who probably passed it to her), and she probably hasn't had proper medical/preventive care.

I just started watching the episode and had to pause and take a deep breath after just 5 minutes. QTH, Acacia? Giddy as a school girl after a window visit from YOUR STEP-DAD! And since I've read the recap and I know she's going to get all worried about the hotel room... Just where the heck did she think all of this was going to go? Just kisses. What a dumb ass.
Sara, yep, she got it bad for dad but I guess we're supposed to believe she is struggling with this and lay most of it on Esteban. Reality is, she is down too.
Sara and tofie..yes we are supposed to believe that Ack is innocent and naive ( stupid) and thinks that dear stepdad will be happy with just kissing..... meanwhile Estebad is salivating and obsessing about totally possessing this sweet , young thang. Wow..what a monster. he kills gorgeous Alonso and then proceeds to methodically steal his life..his hacienda, his wife, and now his daughter. I wonder if there is some backstory to all this. While Este was working in the fields, there was A.onso about the same age..gorgeous with a hacienda and an equally gorgeous wife.and a sweet, little daughter. Este : "I want to be him."

Diana – I was surprised too when Acacia said Ale is no longer her friend. Thank you for the clarification, Vivi. I don’t remember if Ale knew how far the Acacia/Este thing had gone at the time.
As for their thing, what’s up with kissing and pawing in broad daylight right in the middle of a public street? If Este was indeed the head of a large, well-known cotton-growing hacienda (that mysteriously has lots of cows and not one cotton boll to be seen), wouldn’t he be a very recognizable figure in town?
Also, what’s up with Lizzie and German doing it right in the middle of a meadow? Couldn’t they find some bushes to conceal themselves? Do all these characters think there’s nobody else on the planet? It’s a miracle the always-lurking Rubio didn’t see both these hook-ups.
The Chris & Esteban scene was very hard to watch. The writers have set it up beautifully, so that we know how Chris believes things are, and how she’s still in love and hopeful and believes this is a retrievable situation, even while we know that Este is being a complete scum bucket, and he is already gone gone gone. His making it look like it was her decision was truly evil.

Honestly as I watched the episode I remembered why I kind of let this one go. It's really uncomfortable and depressing to watch. I almost burst into tears when Danilo hit Ale.

They mentionned Johnny the drug guy again. I have a feeling that something is going to happen to that drug crop , and Johnny is going to do the dirty work of dealing with Dan for the good guys. Around here, the police use helicopters to find marijuana that the drug dudes plant in cornfields . The guy who rents our land to farm told us that these guys go into the cornfields and pull out some of the corn plants and plant the marijuana in their place to take advantage of the fertilizers used on the corn plants. Cheeky. This guy found some marijuana plants Ina field that he rents and sprayed it with Roundup , a weedkiller.

Sara – I was startled when the cows got sick – because they seemed to have a barnful of them. Cows are large creatures, easily spotted from a distance, but we’ve never seen any in the background in the horse-riding scenes. Of course we’ve never seen any cotton either, which is remarkable as this is about 3 men who are supposed to be big cotton growers. At least in Destilando Amor we saw lots of agave.

If Dan beat Ale in a visible place on her body, he would have to make up an excuse to her family and friends about why they can't even see her when the drop by. That would raise all sorts of suspicions. That's the only thing keeping him from really hurting her. Of course, these are the folks (Luisa) who are only now starting to scratch their heads over how Ale has just disappeared, never leaves home, and always seems sad.
Maggie- Isn't that cotton we always see in those packs in the bodega where all the shagging (Luisa and Manuel) and snogging (Este and Acacia) takes place?

Thanks for the recap. I agree with every one who said what's with the PDA? Jeez. I love Ale more than any character. She epitomizes La Malquerida but I read an interview where VR said she was the titled character. I think many female characters could fit the title.

I say this understanding that I have not been on this journey as long as you all have, but I really winder about Ale's ability to be with anyone. She needs therapy.
I know she and German did it once, but she is still very much under the control of Dan. She's slowly taking steps to get away from him, but it is very dangerous. I can see her laying off the plan to rat out Dan if she thinks Estrella is in danger.

Sara- Ale and German have made love twice. She's with Dan because of the threat to German's life, but regardless of that she's working slowly to gather evidence on Dan and bring him down. This was a promise she made to herself, God, and her dead brother, so I don't thinking she's backing down from that. If anything, Estrella is pushing her to move her plans along more quickly.

Sara- Ay, you should have seen the second time! It was hot! Dan had just killed German's capataz, as a warning to Ale for how easily he could kill German. Everyone, including Ale, thought German was dead, and when he showed up in front of her she jumped his bones-- no hesitation. :)
Vivi – we’ve seen cotton baled up in the bodega (it seems to be quite flammable) but nothing in the fields. In fact, the fields always seem newly plowed. Is cotton planted yearly, or is it a perennial, I wonder. I’m I city girl, so I have no idea.

I too, think Ale will need years of therapy to live anything close to a normal life and while the passion between she and German there, he knows nothing about her nor how to cope. He craves a normal life after the dysfunction of his family and it nothing compared to life in a brothel. Lizzy is right for German. I have no problem with them getting down in a field. Wink

Gringo--Perla definitely seems uneasy about the whole Estrella situation. I don't know if that's because of the business, or because Dan will probably take it out on her if Estrella doesn't get better or if she's truly concerned about Estrella working there since she's so young. I believe there's good in Perla. Ale is slowly rubbing off on her. Ale even hopes Perla can be happy with Memo even though she (Ale) can't be happy with Germán.

It's funny how acacia hated Esteban when he was good and now loves him when he's bad. And it makes her a hypocrite because for a viewer it seems like she wanted him from the beginning.

Was she jealous of Este marrying her mother, or did her intuition tell her that something was not right,...in fact, it wasn't because. he had killed her dad. Then, as an adult she fell in lust with him.
You think that these stories are bizarre , but a few weeks ago, there was a story in our local paper that a stepfather hAd killed his stepdaughter.

Great recap Gloria. Thank you. The most profound words in this episode came from Danilo---it's not about money, it's about power. I think we can safely generalize that reality to all cases of abuse everywhere, and I think we can say the same about Esteban. It's all about power. He's just another version of Danilo.

Dona Gringuita...yes, Este and Dan cut from the same cloth. Este has just polished himself up a little better than Dan. They are both very damaged human beings as are all abusers. They were probably both the victims of abuse when they were young. People raised without love and care have no idea how to love and care for others...not even themselves. I don't think either of them will survive.

Had Esteban not killed and pursued Acacia he is worthy of some pity. You can still see his struggle to be loved and accepted (orphan) but I liken him more to Rubio, only smarter and cleans up better.

tofie, Cristina is La Malquerida in this aspect; Esteban has love for her but with that love comes malevolence that effects her indirectly (having killed Alonso, lusting after Acacia and putting out his ardent desire by fusing his mouth with hers.) Talk about bad romance.
I have a definition of La Malquerida based on the little I know about the play and it's not Cris or Ack (even though it was Ack in the play.)
Being a Malquerida means someone who is or has been loved in a sick or perverse way.
