Amores con Trampa #2 31 Nar 2015 ... opposites attract... times four? Isa smells animals stinch, Santiago smells money!!

Refritos:

Isabel hysterical, not knowing what language the ‘rancheros’ speak. Rocio finds it amusing that the neighbors can drive her aunt that crazy. ‘neta?? que oso!’ Felipe actually glad they HAVE neighbors, no?... Isabel bans them from coming close to any of the neighbors.

Of course the dare makes it even more fun for Rocio… so she ends up presenting herself to Beto (who is obviously smitten with her) and his horse ‘El Pinto’, Beto offers her a ride, she gladly hops on (must not be that easy with the tight black leather pants). Isa comes out of her house and faints at seeing them.

Lo Nuevo:

Rocio leads the route. They are seen by the neighbors, who start gossiping since Rocio is Isabel’s niece.

Rocio and Beto have arrived at someone’s house. A young guy who is dressed ready for the beach is amused at seeing Rocio’s new neighbor, stating Beto is ‘very rural’.

Santiago gets home and starts shrieking at the sight of the horses. He finds Isabel fainted and gets scared. ‘Puchis, are you ok??’ She wakes up, asks if she is dead, she WANTS to be dead!! … They are in disgrace, it is the 7 plagues of the Apocalypsis!! ..

Rocio kisses Diego (who we find out later is her bf, at least that’s what she says) in front of Beto who is not enjoying. Rocio goes in Diego’s house after he invited her to his pool. Beto is not amused, so much not that he calls her ‘Loca’… (but he can't take the credit, Diego called her 'loca' when he came out the door)

Santiago (with wife) comes over to meets Facundo (with wife)… Santiago says they have a situation that concerns him. Isabel says ‘your son kidnapped our daughter!’ Maria and Facundo are surprised but don’t have much time to react, here comes Beto riding back (alone!). Beto says he dropped their daughter with her bf… Ok crisis over. Facundo moves on to the next item on the agenda… Let’s get along and spend some time together!! He tells Santiago that the government bought their lands saying they were going to build a major highway and an oil refinery in there. Facundo says they bought the house ‘cash’. Isa is about to have a stroke. Santiago is quick to recover and puts his hand on Facundo’s shoulder ‘welcome!’.

Back in their house Isa is still freaking out, Santiago is not so worried. ‘life is smiling at us’. ‘look at those folks, they are no problem’… Isa still freaking out about the social implications of having ‘rancheros’ for neighbors. Now I am menonita! (ok i read up on it. mennonites are protestants who don't believe in any measure of 'order'.. military, government, church ruling, etc) Santiago is already working the gears in his head… calls Esteban on phone. ‘I think I found the way to save the company!’

Later on Esteban meets with Santiago. The employees are angry, we owe them 3 months salary and they want their money, otherwise they will quit and kill us. Santiago can only see ‘$$$$’ in front of him. He says the neighbors are ‘dumb’ (brutos!)… Santiago asks Esteban to find out exactly how much the government paid Facundo for the lands. Santiago cannot let Puchis find out they were THIS CLOSE to bankruptcy.

Maria goes into Beto’s room to rant at him for mingling with the neighbors. People here are not like in the fields. You will fall for her… then you will go dragging yourself crying around the corners.

Rocio is taking the same rant from Isabel. She already got called by the Penalvers (the neighbors who saw her). More ranting for Rocio… Rocio whines that Isabel never worried about her before… Isa claims that since Rocio’s mother died, she promised her she would care for her children as her own. But Rocio has become independent, solitary, a rebel. ‘That farmer is not the one for you!’ Rocio rebutes the usual ‘its my life!!’ Isa threatens her ‘get away from the neighbor!... NADA DE NADA with the neighbor!!’

Later on Facundo, Beto and the two young ones (Jacinto and Susana?) are working on the yard… apparently putting together a wooden fence for some of the animals.

Esteban calls Santiago to let him know the Carmonas were paid $10 Million dollars!! Santiago gets on his knees ‘My God Thank you!! Truly, thank you!!’

The Carmona girls (Yoya and Susana?) are arguing about the little pig… Yoya has a hose and wants to get him wet, Susana dumps the bucket of water on her. They were almost run over by Felipe and his car. He is smitten by Yoya… he comments that he actually likes the little pig (Margarito). ‘See you later, vecina’. (another couple that are smitten at first sight). What’s in the water at that neighborhood??

Isabel again gossips with Conchita that soon they will be invaded by bugs and gnats. Rocio adds roaches and ants to the invasion. Suddenly grandpa Porfirio shows up uninvited scaring the jebees out of the women… he asks them if they have a boiled egg, says they (his family) are keeping him on bread and water. He takes her coffee cup right from Isabela’s hand. Santiago comes out at hearing the ruckus that Isabel made… he meets grandpa Porfirio, who tells him he came looking for a boiled egg, Santiago more than willing to oblige his every need. Grandpa Porfirio has also fallen smitten for Conchita.

Where did the Carmonas get so much wood so quickly?? They are putting together fences of different sizes for the animals. Santiago comes over to return Porfirio to them… (guess unsolicited visit deserves a return unsolicited visit) … Facundo rants at Maria for not keeping an eye on ‘mi apá’. Facundo changes the subject to ask Santiago how to find a school for the two little kids and a university for the older girl. Facundo gives Santiago the bottle of tequila he was drinking. Santiago takes a gulp and almost chokes on it. Then he freezes at seeing Facundo drink it straight like soda. And he tries to do the same. (thinks to himself, perfect! That way I will have more opportunities to squeeze them dry!) Santiago even suggests Facundo give him a power of attorney so he can help them with all their transactions (boy is he going fast!!)… Facundo says that is a bit too complicated for him. Santiago responds ‘don’t worry about anything, I can help you with all that, leave it all up to me’. And takes another big gulp of tequila from Facundo’s bottle. Facundo will think about it ‘but thank you for the offer’. (Santiago is a bit tipsy from all the tequila he had to gulp down)

At dinner time, Santiago is sick to his stomach. Isa nags him for it. Felipe thinks Isa is overreacting to the neighbors. Santiago says Facundo invited them all to a barbecue at their house. They will ALL go to the Carmonas. Santiago arranged for their daughter to go to same school as Alejandra and the older daughter will go to same college as Felipe. Isa is shocked. NOT a happy camper. She doesn’t get how he can be so calm after having been at their house. Santiago won’t let her undermine him. He is entitled to make the decisions since he pays the bills and gives them everything they want. Rocio has heard enough arguments so she leaves. Isa starts crying. Santiago yells at her. He is angry at everyone for not going along with him. Isa has a rather annoying hiccup after her crying.

The Carmona girls are again talking and arguing about going back to school. Yoya will ask Felipe tomorrow at the barbecue what career he is studying for.

Facundo is taking a bath with lots of suds. Maria comes in. He is enjoying how ‘rich people take baths in movies!’ Maria says she could wash the sheets in that huge tub. HE says nonsense. We can both fit in here. Get in! the water is great!... he drags her inside the tub, dress and all… they get lovey dovey. ‘we’ll be very happy here in the city. With the kids. You’ll see.’ ‘I hope so’ (Dios lo quiera)… more lovey dovey.

Next morning, Facundo is knocking at Santiago’s door. Isabel comes out. She calls him ‘Facundo’ (on first name basis already??) she walks away a few steps… he says ‘since I saw you I haven’t stopped thinking about you…’ ‘this is not right, I am married and so are you’. They start kissing. (is this a dream? Yes it is. Isabel’s. she says it was a nightmare, but then asks herself ‘why did I dream with that rustic/rough rural man??’)

Still at night… or rather early morning… Isa and Santiago wake up startled at the sounds of the rooster at Facundo’s house. It is only 5:30 am… more rooster calls. Isa yells for that ‘thing’ to shut up already!! She says they must call the police and denounce them! He is not so convinced (would make them enemies and ruin his plans?) She calls ‘locatel’ instead (what is that? A shopping catalog?) Santiago peeks out the window and sees the rooster on the fence.

NOW is the next morning.

Santiago comes out for a morning run and steps right in a pile of horse doodoo. Facundo says ‘good morning! That is for good luck!’ Rocio laughs at Santiago. Then walks on into the house. Once Santiago goes back in the house, Facundo tells his horse ‘Facundo’ that Rocio does not respect Santiago at all.

Barbecue time… Grandpa is impatient, want to be the first to eat chicken when its ready. Beto asks Facundo if the neighbors daughter will come. Maria nags and Facundo tells her the gossip that Rocio did not come sleep at their house. That she bosses herself, does not respect Santiago. Tells Beto it will be difficult for him to enamour her. Maria tells Facundo need to go to the grocery store… Yoya jumps and volunteers to go. Facundo asks Beto to take his sister.

Santiago and family arrive at the barbecue… Isabel mocks Facundo’s accent saying ‘amistAAAad’ (friendship)…

Maria puts a glass of “pulque” (mexican traditional homemade beverage based on agave) in Isabel’s hand, Santiago basically forces Isabel to drink it. Meanwhile Yoya approaches Felipe and offers him chapulines (sp? looks like cherrries) She finds out that Isabel is his aunt, not his mother. He tells her he is studying ‘mercadotecnia’ (a fancy way to say business admin).

Grandpa again goes after Conchita. Grandma Perpetua brings Jacinto and Susana to meet Alejandra. Alejandra tells them she wants to meet their little pig.

Beto is with Rocio… Maria comes to split them up saying he is needed elsewhere. Later we see Beto in the kitchen (about to swallow a boiled egg, what else?), Rocio comes in after him. She says it seems his mom does not like her very much. She mentions that her cousin Felipe and Beto’s sister Yoya are going to college together. They comment that college is not for them. Beto says at first he did not want to move to the city, but now that he met her, he is not regretting it. They move closer to each other when Facundo comes in and sees them. (they have not seen him yet). Rocio gets out of the way. She asks him about his horse. He has had him since the horse was born. She admits she finds him handsome. But that does NOT mean she wants anything with him. ‘My bf Diego would not like that’. She leaves him there drooling.

Jacinto, Susana and Alejandra are talking about all the animals, the cats, bunnies… etc.

Facundo tells Santiago that it seems Isabel does not like beef that much… Maria says that they also have other Mexican foods, some of which make Isabel even sicker of just mentioning them… Maria offers to fix Isabel an egg sandwich. Isa nags about the gluten in that. Santiago tries to be the peacemaker/damage control agent. Santiago wants to see the house. Facundo happy to give him the tour.

Inside, Santiago compliments them on their taste. (I have to admit it is much warmer and 'welcoming' than the Velasco's, which is a bit darker and furniture seems disjointed, mix-up of old, new. weird) Santiago says  'it has… ‘history’. Facundo says some of the furniture belonged to his great great great… gramps… Santiago even sits on one of the chairs. Then says he admires Facundo. It must not have been an easy decision to move to the city. Facundo says when he was young he had to help his parents work the farm… so he did not have the choice. Santiago says ‘the kids are going to school. But what does the man of the house want to do with his mon…’ (stops himself short) '.. with his TIME!'… Santiago suggests Facundo invest in some business… Santiago offers to give him some advice… how about investing in the construction industry? ‘and look! It so happens… I am spotting a very smart man… maybe tomorrow I can give you a tour around the offices and perhaps you will be interested.’ Fac: ‘Facundo Carmona… entrepreneur’… Santi: ‘Facundo Carmona … Enterprises’.

Susana brings her pig to Isabel to meet. Isabel is not amused. Almost chokes on her food…Susana leaves with Margarito … Then Grandpa Porfirio comes over with a whole basket of eggs and offers her a boiled egg… has peeled one for her, sprinkles salt on it. Almost hand-feeds it to her. She passes on it. He gets a bit flirty with her saying she should eat some food so she could gain some kilos here and there (poking her around her waist, etc)… and grandma Perpetua comes and nags at him for disrespecting Isa. Grandma later brings her some red liquid in a glass. Looks like cherry juice. Santiago says it looks like wine (bocato dicardinale?). It is ‘jumirichi’ (what is that?) Isa spits a sip of it right on Grandma Perpetua, she wants to leave, Santiago won't let her, he grabs her arms and she tries to get around him and then falls in the pool. Facundo dives in after her, hat and all…

Previews: Santiago tells Isa that their business is bankrupt. ‘it will be either the corn-planting farmers (campesinos siembra-elotes)… or the streets’ Also that they will have dinner with Facundo and his wife.

And all heck breaks loose at dinner and outside with the older children, animals are running all around, and we see the bf Diego and a shotgun.

Señora -- con toda confianza, agarre un huevo

How can you not giggle?

Marta you are awesome! I love how fast you get these up. I'm off to read your wizardry with words.

Good work, Marta.

I suppose the obsession with eggs is about their easy availability, but is there a joke I'm missing in it?

Are the Carmonas illiterate? Is that what we're going to find out next?

I almost didn't recognize Luz Maria Aguilar, whom I first saw in CS93.

Aren't chapulines grasshoppers?

http://mexicanfood.about.com/od/authenticfamilyrecipes/r/chapulines.htm

Ew. Yup.

Thank you Marta! Especially for the vocabulary.

Was the pig cute? Argh! I want to watch!

Just amazing, Marta! Never mind what they put in their water, what did they put in YOUR water?

Sara, yes, they are grasshoppers.

And the first drink was pulque, a fermented, somewhat alcoholic brew. The red stuff? Ni idea.

U/A, the huevos thing is a double-entendre, Huevos/eggs is used like 'balls' in English.

Wow! You are fast. Thanks for the excellent recap.

Marta, the first drink offered Isabel was pulque which is an alcoholic drink made from fermented agave juice. The second drink they "called" "jumirichi". Never heard of anything even close to that. Has anyone else? Supposed to be a joke? It looked like blood to me.

There is no stopping Porfirio between his mango and huevo talk. He is incorrigible. Granny is on to him when she called him a dirty old man. Too funny.

Granny is set in her ways set, too, when she voices her opinion about Rocío that she is a "suripanta" (immoral woman) like all of the chilangas(women from D.F.).

Of couse the highlight was little Margarito. At least we know his name now.

Poor naive Facundo. He is so easily swayed by a few compliments.

Another fun episode.

Jarifa

Thanks, Marta! Great job.

Yes, the juevos (balls, eggs) and mango jokes were flying. Grandpa IS a dirty old man. :)

Loved the piglet.

This one looks like it will be filled with lots of traditional Mexican food and drinks. Sure would like to know what that red drink was, that was so delicious until Isabel found out what it was.

Glad to see all the youngsters getting along, even the tween girls who are so different from one another- one a girly girl, the other a tomboy.

Loved the bathtub scene. Looked like fun. :)

Even though Isabel is a snob, she did also tell Rocio that she doesn't like her rich boyfriend either, and I trust her judgement of him based on the little we saw. He's a jerk. It was nice to see that Isabel does feel things deeply and I believed in her sincerity when she spoke of taking on the role of Rocio's mom when her (Isabel's) sister died.

I know, Porfirio is a dirty ol' flirt...
between his mango talk (referring to 'sweet' 'yummy' women) and his huevos talk ('balls')... this guy is a trip!

could that red drink be something like this?

it did look like crushed raspberries in there, and some kind of juice... and with Marta liking agaves so much, it could have been. but i guess Isabel got sick because id DID LOOK LIKE BLOOD...

but it did look like some kind of blood cocktail...

But she was drinking it and even said it tasted good, despite the blood color, until they repeated the name a few times and she realized what it was. So I don't think it was its color/consistency that caused her to spit it out in disgust and stumble into the pool.

I googled "jumirichi" and it took me to Africa Zavala's Twitter page with a photo of the "jumirichi" scene but, alas, just questions about what it was but no explanations.

Jarifa

I noticed "The Dress" made its latest appearance during the dream sequence. I know they recycle wardrobe all the time, but this green, pink and white number is especially easy to spot and is also unique in that it shows up in both Televisa and Telemundo/Argos productions.

I've now seen it on: Mayrin Villanueva in MENTIR PARA VIVIR, Tania Lizardo in POR SIEMPRE MI AMOR, Angelique Boyer in LO QUE LA VIDA ME ROBO, Begoña Narváez in LA IMPOSTORA, Marlene Favela in EL SENOR DE LOS CIELOS 2 and now Itati Cantoral in this novela.

Thanks MartaIvett! It's great to see your by-line on a recap for this new series. You work so fast, yet capture so many nuances and phrases for us. My sombrero is off to you!

I actually liked the decor in the Mansion Carmona, although it was probably supposes to look frumpy. Funniest bit was when the rooster woke up Isabel and her hubby, and he looked at her and said he was even more horrified to see what she looked like at dawn...and she told him he was still having a nightmare. Heehee!

J in Oregon

some of my fav moments were Porfirio arriving and yelling 'CHULADAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!'
and Santiago bringing him back to Facundo and yelling in his ear as if Porfirio were deaf.
Also Yoya telling Felipe that the pig was her sister's and she did not like pigs, only to hear him say he DID and she did a 180 quick and said she loved the pig!!
then Santiago would not let go of the bottle of tequila and as Facundo dragged him away he mumbled through his teeth 'do something, Santiaguito! or you can loose/miss the fat fish!' (se te puede ir el pez gordo!)
Did Facundo really call his daughter 'gusana'?? (worm)

LOL. Gusana makes sense to me. Gusana Susana. Susana Gusana!

I was very pleased that Ep 2 was on hulu when I got up this morning.

I liked that it was pointed out that animals can't be pets AND food. But that might just be my herbivore bias.

Erenesto Laguardia is cracking me up!

I got a kick out of Porfirio calling Concepcion "cuerpo de uva". Nice to know that "shape" is appreciated.

Marta-Your recap was so helpful. All the details you captured last night really helped my comprehension this morning.

RG-Thanks for confirming the dress sighting. I thought I recognized it in a promo.

speaking of decor, I LOVED LOVED the huge painting of the 'goth' girl with black wing and red lipstick in Rocio's bedroom!!

Jarifa-I got the same results with my google search of jumirichi. It was disappointing. I am DYING to know what this stuff is!

Yes. I meant to comment on The Dress is the dream sequence and opening credits which Sara spotted the other day. That dress is indeed the new pear robe.

The piglet is cute but wouldn't there be a city ordinance against farm animals being kept in an area like this?

I did know about "huevos" from the title of a Spanish film from about 20 years ago, but wondered whether there was something more specific to look for.

The bathtub scene was cute. Here's hoping there is a good laundry room in the basement so Maria doesn't still wash clothes by hand.

I still can't get over that AZ is only 30 and is already portraying the mother of an older teen who looks like he could already have finished high school.

Apparently these Carmonas, all by themselves, would keep the eggs industry up and growing!
Abuelo eats them by the basketfull and when Maria sent Beto to the kitchen, he was peeling one and about to stuff himself with it when Rocio arrived.

When I was in Costa Rica a couple of years ago, I stayed in San Joaquín de Flores. Minutes away from Heredia and not far from San JOse. Definitely a "city." The neighbors had several chickens and a rooster. Now the DF is probably very different, but maybe in the areas further away they allow animals?

Waking up to a rooster is not a bad way to wake up. I missed it when I got home. Then again, I'm an early bird.

Marta-I am loving all the "sets". Love the Carmona house. And I also liked Rocio's painting.

I like how deep down you can tell the Velasco's do care about the children...as was already pointed out. :-)

Could the jumirichi name be a reference to the character of Soraya Montenegro? look what i found.
http://www.generadormemes.com/meme/flym4l

I saw that too and had no clue.

This will probably remain a mystery. Sad.

Urban- The oldest one isn't even a teen. He's supposed to be 21. I guess Maria was a child bride.

Is hard-boiled egg eating something that is perceived to be done only by "the masses" and that makes it convenient for the huevos jokes?

Or is the Mexican egg industry sponsoring this and it's product placement? Lol.

Soraya Montenegro is the name if a famous villainess Itati played, I think in Maria del Barrio. Apparently there are tons of memes of that character on the internet. I read an interview with Itati recently where they asked her how she felt about the Soraya memes. She loves them. Perhaps this is an inside joke (inside Mexico) that we just can't understand.

I saw an editorial about the casting of AZ. I didn't read it, but I don't blame her for taking the part... Especially after seeing she got to snuggle with a half naked and wet EY. I bet she was like "play the mother of a 21-old? Do the producers think I look of? Wait.. Lalo plays my husband? Yes please!"

Saw and interview with AZ and she was SUPER excited to be playing Ed's wife. You could hear the fangirl in her voice. She almost sounded like one of our Caraymates talking about how handsome he is.

Oh I bet she was darling!

While she looks too young to have the kids, she's doing a marvelous job with the part. She carries herself like an older woman and I really don't notice the age problem.

Marta, what an excellent, all inclusive recap. You are captured all the action and nuances perfectly.

I laughed at the title - very clever.

"She leaves him drooling" and "‘why did I dream with that rustic/rough rural man??’)" were among my favorites.

Everything about last night faded after the bathtub scene. Oh my. While it didn't have the beautiful scenery and waterfall of FELS (right, doris?), bubbles compensated quite nicely. Thank you very much! :)

Why is Isabel fantasizing? It's not too hard to figure out. Facundo is handsome - no mystery there.

Sara, "I liked that it was pointed out that animals can't be pets AND food". I do too!

Vivi, I also love that the children get along so well.

Urban, "Here's hoping there is a good laundry room in the basement so Maria doesn't still wash clothes by hand" made me laugh.

It's been a frigid winter with over 108 inches of snow. After all the angst and agony of recent TNs, I find I am slipping into this like a warm blanket, finding comfort in the humor.

It's so good to laugh at silly things! Silliness = happiness.

Thanks again Marta!

Diana

Diana-
"It's been a frigid winter with over 108 inches of snow. After all the angst and agony of recent TNs, I find I am slipping into this like a warm blanket, finding comfort in the humor."

I don't know why, but this got me misty eyed. I hope things are warming up for all my mates in colder climes.

And I forgot...

I'm sure it's meant in a PSA way, but I like that Facundo wants so badly for his kids to get a good education.

Most current available estimate for literacy in Mexico is 93%, which is above the world average. I was shocked when I saw that there are places where it's less than 50%.

I'm sure Facundo's kids are literate. What he wants is for them to have more options than what would be available in a rural area.

What was shocking without being surprising is that illiteracy is higher among women than men.

Something that Fausto of QTPD would want.

OT: I'm binge-watching that one until I catch up. Thus far I think that the writers ratcheted up the evil of that character. Since SG is the same age as CE it's easy to see why CE's version of him was easier to believe as someone who could seduce his way through life.

Thanks so much Marta for providing me with a recap with my breakfast.

Diana, my favorite scene was Big Ed pulling Africa into the bubble bath. I also loved Ernesto trying to become Big Ed's drinking buddy. I love Ernesto.

regarding animals as pets or meat, I had a close friend who raised Black Angus steer every year for 4H. She named these giant animals (I remember one named Ceasar and another Brutus). Then, she showed them at the county fair every September ....and they were sold . I don't think that I could do that which is why I never joined 4H....besides the fact that I had no interest in cooking or sewing.

Urban, did you notice the statistic for literary in the U.S?

well, I must run to school.

Sara, thank you for your kind comment.

susanlynn, somehow I knew you would like the bathtub scene. Call me psychic. I bet Niecie enjoyed it too. Big Ed in bubbles. Can't get much better.

Urban, I was very surprised the the illiteracy rate is higher among women.

Diana

I also have to commend AZ on this. she is really diving into her character... even taking care in using the 'rancheros' accent and ennunciation of her lines... i do believe she has spent all her life in the 'fields' just from the way she talks.

and thanks for the stats on the literacy. i was wondering about that. and yes, it is great to see Facundo so concerned about his kids having more opportunities than he did... and he did mention to the suit men back at the ranch that his younger one (Jacinto?) needed special attention (not that i see any sign of that yet).

I am also getting a kick of the performances of Dona Luz Maria Aguilar and Don Ignacio Lopez Tarso... they both ROCK here.

I don't see a 'trampa blog' link on the left bar... had to come in via the blog editor link.

I was going to wait a bit before asking blogmom to put it in the sidebar. Though things look promising, I don't want to ask her to put it in the side bar yet.

What bugs me the most about the US and UK numbers is that they are not very current. We should have better updated numbers by now for something like this.

"... had to come in via the blog editor link."

But it's on the front page? Why go through the blog editor link?

I have always been confused by terminology here.

For me, Caray Caray is the blog. I always think of individual shows as "posts on the blog" and each conversation as "threads on each post."

Sara, you are right. it is on the main caray page. i jsut did not have it in my favorites. i used to avhe the individual blog lists (like mcet blog list). thanks for reminding me i only needed to go to the main blog page.

Whew. I was worried!

If everyone is still on board after the first week, I will ask blogmom if we can get a link in the sidebar.

I think part of the issue with the 'eggs' and 'mangoes' is that they are easily available and affordable, especially in farmlands (and this family raises enough hens to supply themselves with plenty of eggs)...
i am still giggling at the moment Santiago got home and saw the invasion of horses and shrieked at the chickens/hens flying/ flapping all around him.

Yes! That was such a funny scene!! Ernesto Laguardia was such a baddie in Corona de Lagrimas (the little bit I saw) and I am liking him so much more as a comic baddie.

NM,
your comment:
Ok. It's growing on me.

Señora -- con toda confianza, agarre un huevo

How can you not giggle?
is sidebar worthy... i am still giggling...

In fact...I think I'm liking Ernesto's comedy more than Itati's.

Marta,

Huevos are the new avocados on the Patio! (And I am only now getting the full joke of Monday's menu:

-- At The Velascos
Cream of Avocados
Ant Eggs
Sturgeon Eggs

Huevos all around!

Of course, every day is hardboiled egg day for the Carmonas. They even took a basketful of them on the road

Is the pool chlorinated? I'm worried about those ducks swimming in a chlorinated pool.

Loved when Isa fell in the pool. Also, her spit take.

Still on the fence, though I don't dislike it at all.

Nanette

Sara,

I like the way Itatí is playing this. Her villain in repose or under stress has a hapless, Lucy-ish look rather than the jaw-clenching, tooth-baring Disney wicked look that many actresses affect in a role like this. Of course, as Vivi and others have already pointed out, Isabel is silly and snobbish, but she's not unfeeling.

As for Ernesto, we all know that Facundo is going to give him a run for his money. Getting him to bolt down practically the whole bottle of aguardiente and then drinking him under the table is just the beginning.

So the good guys aren't toothless and the bad guys aren't evil and don't win every battle. Despite the comic exaggerations, the failings are all on a human scale that we can relate to. Maybe that's part of the appeal.

Do we know what area the family is from?

Nanette,
I imagine the family is from a little pueblo in Jalisco, given the agave we saw in the first episode.

The only thing the sinopsis seemed to say was: "La familia Carmona, vive una vida tranquila y sencilla de campo en un pueblo ubicado en el interior de la República Mexicana "

yeah thats what iw as thinking too... they looked fairly happy with who and where they were at the beginning of the story...
maybe in the neighboorhood of Pueblo Alegre? LOL!

Thought I'd research if there were any traditional spit take drinks from that region. Can't find anything. Though I did find an article from last year about people drinking pigs blood cocktails--I believe it was Chicago. Ugh!

Marta, thanks a bunch. Terrific recap.

The tequila drinking one-upmanship was a hoot. No way Facundo is as bruto as Santiago thinks he is.

Ay, the bubble bath scene. Loved it. Now that was a kiss.

I figured the girls and boys would find love across the tracks, but seeing a friendship blossom between the tween girls is refreshing.

I was worried about AZ on the premiere cause I thought Itati, Eduardo, Ernesto, and Ignacio's characters could blow her away. Being the straight person can be tough. But she made a strong impression last night.

"we all know that Facundo is going to give him a run for his money."

"No way Facundo is as bruto as Santiago thinks he is."

It's going to be fun to watch!

I was also glad to see the two tween girls getting along.

Isabel may be a snob, but her bio daughter (Alejandra?) doesn't seem that way at all. She seems very down to earth and friendly.

NovelaMaven: "Despite the comic exaggerations, the failings are all on a human scale that we can relate to. Maybe that's part of the appeal".

You nailed it! Perfect...

Diana

Flaco said Isa was drinking the fresh blood of the sheep they roasted.

No, no Nanette!

Ohh. No wonder she spit it out. I have to admit I did wonder as it did seem to have the color and consistency of blood but...

Diana

En serio??

Eeewwwwww.

NM and Diana... i agree.
even if Isabel and Santiago are comical villains,
their daughter Alejandra and nephew Felipe seem really down to earth and 'nice'.

the blood of the sheep???
Cancelo! Cancelo! Cancelo! Cancelo!

Marta: you're cracking me up!!

Flaco says the Carmonas are from San Bartolo el Chico.

actually 'cabrito' is goat... don't tell me they cooked their own goat... YIKES!!!

Oh, no; not those cute baby goats!

Does anyone else think their land might have been worth more than they got for it?

I know it's early, but does anyone want to a recap or bullet list tonight? As much or as little as you want.

If not, I'll just put up a discussion post before I go to bed. I won't be able to watch the episode until tomorrow.

i can do a smaller bullet list tonight but not tomorrow.

Are you sure, Marta? I appreciate the work you are doing this week. Even just a quick run down of the most important events would be GREATLY appreciated.

UA-I'm not sure. Did they say oil was on the land or just that they were going to build a refinery. $10 million dollars seems like an awful lot to me! LOL.

Marta - thank you for the recap!

This one might grow on me.

I kept expecting Grandpa to ask someone if they want a walnetto. (His voice gives me flashbacks.)

I did not recognize Nora Salinas, as Rocío. Really. Has she had facial reconstruction surgery? Her features usually are sharper, especially the cheekbones & chin. And she is a forty-year-old playing, what a 16 year-old?
I want to know which face cream she uses.
;-)

UA - I have no doubt the land was worth more than what they were paid for it. Esp. when the buyer is the gov't, be it Mexican or U.S.

doris- I don't know who the actress is playing Rocío, but it is not Nora Salinas.

Did I read correctly? The Rocío actress was in MCET?

Scarlet Dergal's (Rocio) filmography on IMDb does not show MCET.

Diana - Has the moustache grown on you yet?

Thanks Nanette. Why does she look familiar to me?

What is up with the red and white striped high socks that the maid had on with her black boots ? It reminded me of The Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz.

Marta- do you mind emailing me? There's a link to my email on my profile.

No, the character playing Rocio is NOT Nora Salinas. I think Nora will end up being Santiago's lover or stte. but she is not her. and the actress playing Rocio is not the same that played Edith in MCET, although they could be related, they do look similar.

Flaco's friend in Mexico researched jumirichi and couldn't find anything. He, however, told Flaco he shouldn't be watching novelas during holy week and Flaco told him he shouldn't be drinking jumirichi.

Sara: she looks familiar to me, too. I want to say she looks like a singer. I can kind of see her singing in my mind. I think the person she reminds me of is a singer that was in 10 Things I Hate About You.

I asked my student from Mexico if she knew what jimirichi was, and she had never heard that word. She wanted not know where I had heard but.

OMG, so many comments for the first 2 capitulos. I need to catch up so I can join the conversation. Hope to start adding my comments soon.

NovelaMaven & Martaivett, thanks for recapping the first two, it is greatly appreciated.

Hasta pronto!

HI!

The egg stunt comes from the chilean version. Maybe people from the rural areas in Chile find them good and easy to carry around for a snack. Eggs in México are a very expensive delicacy right now, since they went up. Thanks God is seasonal and they will be available for everyone soon!

Maybe the joke is that the Carmonas are SOOO RICH, they can afford eating eggs all day!

The novela is not as funny as the original, and I am starting to hate the clarinet sound they use to give emphasis to the ''comedic'' scenes.

I have not seen the Chilean original. I did see the Chilean version of Hasta fin del Mundo and it was WAAAAAAAAAAAAY better (and shorter.)

THANK YOU everyone for setting me straight on the Rocío/Nora Salinas issue. Well, that explains why Rocio does not look like NS! LOL I must have dreamed that...

AuntyAnn-I don't know if you will see this. Somehow I missed your comment yesterday. I'm looking forward to reading your future comments. :-)
