La Sombra del Pasado #13 3/5/15 I Have a Dartboard With Your Name On It
Refrito Rapidito
Abelardo tells Mari that he can draw a detailed map of every mole on Valeria's body.
Severiano (Sev) vists Raymundo's grave. He's recovered the land Ray took and used Ray's daughter to cover the loss of the arm.
Lo Nuevo
Aldonza prays to the Madrecita. She thanks her for their new life. It hasn't been easy. She asks La Madrecita to help her mother leave this life she's living. Patience, dears. It will become clear near the end.
Sev meanwhile tells Raymundo (Ray) he had every intention of leaving Roberta, Aldonza and Adelina alone in their new lives. He's a big-hearted, generous guy, you know. Unfortunately, Roberta hasn't learned a thing and he's simply going to have to shut her up some other way.
Aldonza continues her prayer. She prays for her guardian angel Adelina and the eternal rest of her father's soul.
Sev makes his goodbye to Raymundo's tomb. Sev has filled him in with all the latest so Ray will turn over in his grave.
Mari catches up with Lola and wants to talk to her (that's code for "gossip.) Mari tells Lola that her brother Abelardo said that Valeria (Val) went to Spain to chase after Cristobal so they could get married. Lola informs her that's old news (I love you Lola, but you are a rapidtalker and slangslinger. I think the Ocho columnas she refers to is an newspaper.) Mari then tells Lola that Val and Abelardo habían tenido sus queveres (loosely and crudely translated by yours truly as "they've knocked huaraches.") This gets Lola's attention. Lola calls her a cusquivana only to be quickly corrected by Mari with casquivana. Cusquivana, casquivana...they both mean tart (though I'm partial to "ho" myself.) Ah, but Lola I believe is playiing on the word "cusca" which can be used for "ho". She calls her vain, too.
Meanwhile, in España...
Cristobal (Cris) shares a drink with Val. He is sad and tired of hurting. He doesn't know how to rid himself of the loneliness or Aldonza's memory. She just left and didn't say a word. Thats what hurts the most. Valeria tells him he can't blame himself. He opened himself to Aldonza and she didn't accept his love. Let it go and learn from the experience! Don't make the same mistake again. He asks how he's supposed to do that. Val advises that he understand himself. He has a big heart and he feels things strongly. But not everyone loves the same way. She hates seeing him suffer. He takes her hand and thanks her for supporting and talking to him. They toast.
Lola found a part-time job with the banker's wife (didn't catch the name.) Lola also tells Dominga about the gossip she heard about Val. Dominga is scandalized, threatens to wash Lola's mouth out with soap (even dragging her to the sink) and finally starts chasing her with a wooden spoon.
Cris and and Val return from their dinner. He asks if he's forgiven and she says she forgave him before the dinner even started. He jokes that she cheated! They share a laugh. His eyes go all googly and she asks if he would like to stay for a drink.
Time-lapse of the sun rising over Plaza del Sol. It's 8:31 and Val and male friend are asleep. Val's phone rings. It's Candelaria (Cande.) She needs a report. Val says things are going great. Better than they thought. She's following all of Cande's instructions. The results are spectacular. Cande wonders why Val is talking so quietly. Val explains she's in class. They hang up and our writers try to psych us out. It takes forever, but finally Val's bedmate is revealed and it's NOT Cris. Val likes her lovin' apparently. Her new friend wants to know why she's sleeping with him if she has a boyfriend. He feels kind of bad for the guy. Val explains that the boy in question is not her boyfriend...yet. Loverboy suggests that she give the guy a little taste of what she gave him. She assures him that's just about to happen. It's just a matter of time. Loverboy realizes he was just a booty call. I didn't catch the conversation very well, but I'm pretty sure Loverboy said something like this guy must not be very interested in her. This ticked her off, but they get busy again anyway. Please chime in. I didn't get the impression it was super important, but I'm interested in understanding.
At las Ánimas Dominga serves breakfast and Sev gets ready for his trip to the DF. He won't be driving, his taking one of the men. He doesn't know how long he'll be gone, but he'll keep Cande informed.
Val brings Cris a lamp. OOO...A designer lamp! He likes it! It must have been expensive! The place needed more light.
Sev arrives someplace important looking to see Comandante Giralba. I think he's greeted by a low-ranking military guy or a high-ranking bell-boy. I can't tell. The Comandante and Sev talk decide to talk business over a meal, but before they go Comandate Giralba gives Sev the address of the phone number. Giralba is pretty sure it's not the address of some relative since it's not a residence. Giralba makes a crack about getting a little action.
Cristobal invites Val to grab a bite. She makes fun of his wording (echar un taco...How naco! He's in Spain!) At first she turns down the invitation because she has some work to do, but Cristobal convinces her she has to eat and offers to do the work while she makes dinner (my inner feminist is torn again. Hate the attitude. Love that it's aimed at Val.)
Aldonza stares at her computer and wonders if Cristobal, the amor of her vida, is still looking for her.
Well, he's on the computer. Unfortunately, Val enters from the kitchen with dinner. And he gives her a big ol' kiss on the cheek. His eyes get googly again. Blech.
Sev has found the bar from which Roberta called him. He tells the bartender about getting a phone call. Sev describes Roberta. He explains that she is not someone who goes unnoticed. The bartender ain't giving up any information...until Sev mentions his willingness to pay anyone who helps him find his prey...er...the woman.
In a Spanish café, Cristobal is struck by the lady at the table next to him. She bears a resemblance to Aldonza. She's Regina, an actress. She cracks a joke about him picking up girls. They share smiles and small talk. The important thing is Val is a short distance away and sees the exchange.
Lola catches Emmanuel writing something. He says it's a list of meds they need for the animals, but Lola snatches the letter and begins to read. It's clearly a love letter to someone far away. In it he says that the recipient of the letter has a generous heart that knows how to love. Even though they've gone to seek love from someone far away, Emmanuel remains behind..."still loving you."
Cris and Regina say good bye. Val arrives and asks Cristobal about the woman he was with. He starts to gush. He was just bowled over by this girl. Val is concerned about Regina's resemblance to
Lola figures out that the letter is for Valeria. Emmanuel admits it. Lola gets up and says Valeria is not good for him or anyone! She explains that Val went to Spain to study Cristobal.
Val continues her mind games. She reminds Cris how much he lost the last time he was in love--his happines, his faith in life...his confidence. Cris isn't ready to give up Regina. He's supposed to meet with her tomorrow. He asks Valeria to come and meet her. He wants Val's opinion. Val agrees.
Coming back from commercial break we see that Lola has left Emmanuel, but he is close behind and calling her a chismosa. She takes offense and barely stops herself from dropping the "Val is a ho" bomb. It's too late, though. Emmanuel's curiosity has been piqued. Lola is a little hesitant still since she's not sure if the gossip is true and her grandmother threatened to cut out her tongue with a machete if Lola spread gossip. Finally she tells Emmanuel that las malas lenguas say that Val has had relations with Abelardo. Emmanuel just can't believe it. It's pure gossip. He looks crushed.
Look. Are they in Madrid or Barcelona?
Regina gets a phone call. The other actress can't do it! She's got the job! She's got to leave and ya!!
Val and Cris are waiting at the same café. Cris is really nervous and excited. She's late! Cris steps away to use the bathroom. He leaves his phone. Sigh. It rings. Sigh again. It's Regina. Val picks up. Another recapper's deep sigh. Regina explains she won't make it to the coffee date. Val plays the part of the aggrieved wife and tells Regina she's tired of Cristobal's cheating...Leave her husband alone! Ok. Regina is taken care of. Once Cristobal comes back, Val explains that while he was gone, Regina called and said she was getting back with her boyfriend. He wants to call, but Val tells him that Regina asked him not too. He looks crushed.
Aldonza and Adelina discuss cell phones(?) while Roberta nurses a hangover. Roberta tells them to shut it. Adelina tells her her head wouldn't so much if she didn't drink so much.
Lola runs into Emmanuel in the stables. She's upset because he hasn't spoken to her. He says he's not going to as long as she goes around gossiping about Val. Lola tells him she's not going to say anything more about his "diosa". They shake hands and make up.
There's a knock on Roberta's door. It Sev!!!! He forces his way in! Roberta asks how he found them and he responds "El pez por la boca muere" (which I find just too perfect a line to translate.) She called him, but she knows he believes in conversations...face to face. She begs him to leave and leave them in peace. Sev says that's exactly what he wanted. He in Santa Lucia and she in Mexico. Everyone at a nice safe distance apart with the past buried. But she called and insulted him and reminded him. Roberta begs forgiveness and swears she'll never bother him again. And Sev agress...because he has a gun that guarantees she will never bother him again. If he ever sees her or hears her voice or if Aldonza has the bad idea to seek out his son, he'll kill Aldonza right in front of her. Is that clear you disgusting drunk? He asks. Roberta is subdued.
I don't want to recap this, so I'm keeping it kind of short. Val and Cris enjoy a glass of wine and she asks why he is so pensive. He's been thinking about them. He's seen her as a friend for so long. Ugh. Seduction guitar, saxophone and googly eyes. He tells Val she is pretty. Has she ever thought that they could...you know. The more he thinks about it, the more he thinks she's the woman for him and they could be more than friends. He kisses on her and the sax goes into full cheesy love scene mode. I'm nauseous. I would have rather she drugged him. Damn. He did his of his own Volition.
New character alert! It's Renato and he has a crush on Aldonza, despite her cold shoulder. His friends tell Renato to give it up. Renato thinks she's lo máximo.
Aldonza is a good student. She wants to confrim the time of her examen. They're at 7. It will just be her mom and her aunt (does anyone understand why her family would come to exams?) Aldonza thanks the prof for all he's done for her. He praises her and mentions that she finished her program faster than most. He is sure she has a bright future ahead of her and gives her a contact for a job. He hopes he still has a little influence where the contact is.
They must be doing ok since Adelina seems to have a hired girl to help around the apartment. Roberta is tarted up and ready for her night of tarting (sadly, this is true. Keep reading.) Roberta seems to have a cough and I'm not sure if SUSANA had a cough and they just went with it or if ROBERTA has a cough and this is A SIGN (she is a smoker...) Adelina reminds her of Aldonza's examen. They need to be with her. Adelina also tells her she wrote Padre Geronimo (Padre G.) He deserved to know about his niece! Roberta gets upset. She's tried very hard to break the chains that tied them to that pueblo and Adelina just won't let go!
Padre G reads Adelina's letter. Lola is a little jealous of Aldonza and Padre G reminds her not to be jealous. Lola thinks it would have been nice to go away and study. Padre G doesn't think Aldonza's life in the DF has been that easy, but Lola reminds him how hard things were for her in Santa Lucia. Lola is upset that Aldonza never even wrote her a "mail". Padre G asks if she has a computer and Lola takes the time to explain she's got an account at the "ciber" around the corner. It's where she printed Adelina's mail for Padre. I assume if they take the time to write the lines, they are important. Lola wonders if Aldonza, Adelina and Roberta will ever come back. Padre G doesn't know. If they haven't come back in all this time, they probably won't (which means at least one of them will.) Lola changes the subject and tells Padre that Cristobal is coming back!
Aldonza is home and asks about her mom. Adelina assures her that Roberta will be there for her exam. Adelina wants to have a little party for Aldonza and Aldonza is adamantly opposed. She apologizes to her aunt for being so rude about it. Adelina understands, though. Aldonza is ashamed of her friends knowing about her mom, right? Aldonza admits it's true. Her mom promised to change! The only difference is they live better. (Roberta charges more.) Aldonza doesn't want to talk about it any more and Adelina mentions she has a present for her.
Roberta meets her "client". ARCHIE LAFRANCO!! (No name yet.) Again, no one has clearly said "Roberta is a prostitute" but the hints are heavy. As soon as she arrives, Archie pulls out his wallet and pays the check and is ready to leave with Roberta. She even comments "so fast?"
Sev wants to now why the hell Cande didn't tell him Cris was coming home. She gives a fake apology and says she though he already knew. He says if it hadn't been for Melesio he never would have known. No she didn't tell him because she does whatever she wants!! She asks him not to yell because the servants can hear. He doesn't give a rat's patoot! She is cool as cucumber and tells him Val is accompanying Cristobal. Melesio will pick them up. There's going to be a welcome dinner and she's invited several people including Prudencia and Humberto. Sev thinks she should have checked with him before organizing a hootenanny. She reminds him SHE is the owner of this casa. He reminds her that if the house is still standing and the ranch and stables are stil in good shape it's because of him! She's tired of arguing and so is he. He is going to make one thing clear though: She may have stripped him of authority in the household, but she will not take his son away from him! Like it or not, he is the father and Cristobal loves him and RESPECTS him!

I have noticed that unlike many novelas that I have watched, this one features no abuelos.
I've got some of it up.
"He has a big heart and he feels things strongly. But not everyone loves the same way." Listen to her, Cristobal, she's talking about herself! Get a clue!
"Val's bedmate is revealed and it's NOT Cris." Heart attack averted! I almost respected her for admitting that Cristobal got her motor running and she needed Booty Call Boy to come over and give her a tune up. Why should the guys always be making the booty calls? But it's not ok that she's lying to everyone and only Booty Call Boy is privy to the fact that Val has carnal needs. It's actually diabolically brilliant the way she isolated Cristobal while she got her needs met elsewhere until he was finally starved enough for affection from anyone that he'd resort to her. Well played, Valeria. I hate your guts, but well played.
"I think he's greeted by a low-ranking military guy or a high-ranking bell-boy." Why do I persist in drinking anything while reading recaps! You almost owed me a new keyboard!
Cristobal "falling for" Valeria makes perfect sense to me, from what we've seen. And if she actually *was* this person she's pretending to be around him, I wouldn't hate her for it. But I know that she's a big lying liar.
And yet, when Cristobal sees Aldonza again...as he will...he's going to be drawn to her again. So they're not giving us "love" as something that grows and develops between two people...they're giving us "love" as an instant, inexplicable connection.
I'm ok with it starting as the inexplicable connection, but if it's going to be a strong, lasting relationship, that can't be all there is. That's what they gave us on LG--two people who were horrible to each other but "Oh, I could never live without you" and no actual depth.
A little more has been posted.
Val is a player, no ? you have to admit that the girl is kind of diabolically clever.
That was so much worse than a classic tramp trampa! As soon as they hid the guy's face when Val picked up the phone, I knew it wasn't Cris, but I have to admit, I am impressed. I don't know about you guys, but they totally faked me out with the avances! It's SO MUCH WORSE that Cris has chosen this path of his own free will...but SO MUCH BETTER as a show! They seem to know how to map out a plot so that we're actually surprised rather than dropping meteorite sized bread crumbs leading to thimble sized witch.
For anyone who's interested, this does bring us back on track with El Manantial's version (seriously, except for these past couple of days, they are practically following El Man word for word!) I'm going to estimate it's a two maybe three year jump? Aldonza may have gotten her degree early, but even so I'd still say it would take a couple of years.
Yeah, Diva, shout out the ladies with libidos! (But boo on the liars and the dirty, dirty cheats, as Ms. Swift said.) It is refreshing to see a TN lady get her goodies too. To bad she has to be messing with an innocent heart as well. I actually hope she's been faithful to Cris all this time (I like my villains layer cake style).
The shine on my galan dimmed a bit tonight. Not because he moved on, but because he did so so quickly that he made his connection with Aldonza seem like a middle school infatuation. But, like I said before, I guess the intro was the puppy love and lo que viene is for the big dogs!
I was hoping that Rob would be so freaked by Sev showing up because of HER phone call that she would totally sign up for AA and walk the straight and narrow. But her heels are clearly made for seductive sashaying of the Lady in Red. I did like that they added the Sev scene though because it will certainly added weight to her outburst at Adelina.
I thought they were in Madrid, why?
"Regina gets a phone call. The other actress can't do it! She's got the job! She's got to leave and ya!!" Hell, yeah...an acting gig vs. a coffee date. See ya, scarf boy!
"There's a knock on Roberta's door. It Sev!!!! He forces his way in!" I was so grateful that for once, someone actually TRIED to shut the door when trouble came knocking.
Sara - thank you for the recap, especially the Gossip Girl convo translation. I did not understand the cusca casqui thing at all when I was watching it.
Also, I rolled my eyes at little at Emmanuel because so what if Val knocked boots with the banker's boy? She's allowed! ...But he's such a sweet little puppy that I can't bear to see him hurt more. I just want to hug him, he's so timid! Alex Sirvent is doing a really good job with him. He jumped a mile when Lola came upon him writing that letter and barely tried to get it back, he's so used to being defeated before he's even put up a fight.
Susanlynn, she barely even had to weave a web, sadly. If only he had a wingman/woman. I never did hear what Aldonza's degree is in. And they didn't show us the business card for the person who might be able to give her a job.
I didn't catch Aldie's major either. Did she say she was presenting her dissertation tonight? Does that mean she got her master's degree?
Also, were AL, Rob, and Ad in a new apartment ?
I didn't play close attention to Aldonza's major. Hope someone can fill in. :-/
"I want real drama and action, but then they give it to me and I just want to strangle the galan with his stupid scarf!" Word!
Yup, Aldie certainly seems to have gained a rep with some people for being aloof, poor thing. I think most people are invisible in college, so I hope this new rep is limited to her sadly close circle of acquaintances.
Yeah, darned if Val didn't play her hand perfectly. She's tricky and quick and has the Bride of Frankenstein on her side. Sigh.
Vivi, true, and on top of that, she has that rep because she's trying to make sure they don't find out her mom really is dating for dollars.
AUGH!! I was wandeing the same thing about that cough! Is this a breadcrumb?
I thought Cande would say she could rid Cris of that respect with one sentence. I had to laugh when she told Sev he was invited to Cris's welcome home dinner too.
I think the bellboy was a cadet?
What Aldonza is doing is verbally presenting her graduate thesis to a panel of professors, who will then pass judgement then and there if she will get her degree. Family and friends are invited to observe and provide moral support. In Refugio Para el Amor, one of the young characters getting her law degree had to do the same thing and I looked up the practice at the time. It's very common in Mexican universities.
I'm bummed they made Cris seem so... frivolous? That's not the right word, but his whole "I'm in love!" then "I'm crushed! I must leave the country!" then "She looks like Aldonza! We have an immediate connection!" thing made me want to brush him off. I hope the loving is extra good.
So 13 episodes and the writing, pacing and story are still going strong. I'm so happy to have a show I love watching and a patio to share it with. And when I'm a little thirsty I can just pop over to the Naughty Melon and order a Midori(™) infused libation.
I feel it makes it more realistic that he would move on quickly because it's now easy for him to say to himself that the thing with Aldonza wasn't real. I do believe that he and Aldonza had an amazing, instantaneous attraction and connection (love at first sight), that with more time would have grown into a profound and lasting love. I also think that after the time jump, they will both find that that connection is still there, and hopefully THIS time they'll have the opportunity to spend enough time together for their love to develop deeper roots.
I always love your explanations!
Hey, that's sufficient detail on Cristobal's giving in to hormones and desperation. I guess I have to give mad props to Booty Call Boy for keeping Val's needs in check so that she could keep up the "Golly, gee, I dunno, we're just friends" pretense going until the last possible second.
I just know that cough is a sign. I can just feel it.
Why is Severiano acting like Candela just suddenly stopped holding the reins on pretty much everything that happens in that house. It's been over 20 years. He should be used to it by now.
Ooh, and that look Candela gave him when he was insisting that Cristobal is HIS soon...oh, please let me not be just imagining that she was thinking "As far as you know."
Thanks for the explanation Vivi. I started thinking that must be it, but the use of "examen" kept throwing me off. I just had a mental image of folks watching Aldonza take a test. LOL.
hellashelle again- Yeah, I see what you're saying about Cris. He seems...flighty?
Kat- I totally thought of you when Regina got her call that she got the job!!
Argh!! Ooh, and that look Candela gave him when he was insisting that Cristobal is HIS soon...oh, please let me not be just imagining that she was thinking "As far as you know."
I missed it!! Let me go back...
Lol, Sara, ya! You've already given us a fabulous recap! Stop working and have a drink!
I really enjoyed tonight's episode. I kind of thought it was going to start heading toward cliche's, but it didn't!
susanlynn- I LOVED THE GAZEBO, TOO!!
Does anyone believe they actually filmed in Spain?
Oh that's a keeper. That needs to be used and often. *whips out notebook and adds entry next to pop goes the sleaze-le*
Vivi - Do you know if this means Aldonza got a graduate degree or does this happen for bachelor's degrees as well?
I agree that Cris is a guy with hormones, and let's face is the girl disappeared and then flat out told you it wasn't going to work. After that if you don't move on years later and still insist you're in love after 3 short conversations, someone might suggest you join many of your TN ancestors in a padded cell.
What bothers me is just the first declaractions of love. Why go straight there? It would've made more sense to me if they either built up that premise, or went with a "There's something there...I don't know what it is, but it's big. Like, "change my life" big..." premise.
But I know, I know. It's a TN and it's a first love and first loves feel like real love even when they're baby love. Sigh.
I'm sad Aldie didn't get the memo that girls can move on too (Val def knows this). But I'm glad they gave us logic behind that b/c I can certainly see her not wanting to invite any guys into her life b/c of both the rape and her mom's lifestyle.
This is gonna sound random, but I'm baffled by her hair. She's supposed to be a spoiled rich girl, so I would think they'd style her hair to look a little nicer than what mine looks like when it's, frankly, messy. Lola's hair looks more "styled" than Val's. I get jealous of Lola's hair, but Val's...not so much.
Diva - you're so right, she prob hasn't dealt with any of it at all. Which is sure to bring high drama later...
I wonder what will take them back to Santa Lucia given all of this. Do you think finding out Sev really bought the land be enough? It's the only reason I can think of for them to return.
Even though I have now seen Thelma play a brat or a villain more times than I've seen her play the good girl, I still think of her as the sweet, free spirited teenager with braces, Paola in Para Volver a Amar- the first role I saw her in. Here in a series of scenes we see her kissing her love-at-first-sight galan for the first time, teasing him about stealing the condom that was in her wallet that he found, and also learning he's leaving to study abroad. Unlike Cris, her Romeo is serious and uptight (an adult in a teen's body). Start at minute 4:15: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47cDrWlTpiU
It's such a small detail, but that's what I'm reduced to noticing, since it's done so well overall! I just wish there was a reason that fit better with her character. I dunno. I guess I'll have to imagine that she's always just come from a roll in the hay or a ride in a convertible :D
Your recap is so lovingly detailed and funny! And wow, the show just ended an hour ago on the West Coast and there are 68 comments already. I feel like Gringo.
Cough=bad times for Roberta. TB or lung cancer? She still looks pretty good for all her boozing and I bet she doesn't eat properly. And slinging melons for a living.
Vivi thanks for explaining about licenciado.
J in Oregon
"Sev has filled him in with all the latest so Ray will turn over in his grave."
"I think he's greeted by a low-ranking military guy or a high-ranking bell-boy."
I'm impressed with Val, she was very patient and sold Chris without him having a clue.
Chris - shut up, it was either Val or some ho in a bar
Val - just practice for the big game
Severiano - since you are cowering on the couch might as well lick you all over
Aldonza - almost as if the box was never opened
Roberta - it pays well and I choose my own hours
Emmanuel - dear Penthouse Pet
Adelina - spinster aunt
J in O - we did get a little chatty last night. Lol. It's true I am enjoying this show so much more. I had the same thought about Roberta last night-she looks pretty good for all the hard living.
tofie- hot damn a tofie list to enjoy with my coffee. Emmanuel's entry is priceless! So freaking funny.
I woke up this morning thinking that I wouldn't have been as annoyed by Cris being with Regina. What bothers me is the behind the scenes manipulations between Val and Cande.
Aldonza has not dealt with her trauma, but I'm glad the writers showed us nightmares and the emotional distance she's created with those around her. Very different from accepting rings from the man you believe raped you (lookin' at you DQTQTQ.)
Your details were splendid and I so enjoy how you infuse your heartfelt comments (and humor) so seamlessly.
"Sev has filled him in with all the latest so Ray will turn over in his grave" was one of my many favorites. Your embedded vocabulary was an added treat.
My heart broke a bit for both mother and daughter last night. Aldonza, regal and proud, insulating herself, her heart and emotions in a cocoon of loneliness. Roberta, trying to submerge her pain in the uncaring, cold arms of others. We've seen much and yet I think her darkest secret is still buried.
It was inevitable Cris and Valeria would end up together. Temporarily. I am surprised it happened so quickly. And for the record, that lamp was hideous. Valeria must have inherited her mother's taste. (meow...)
Is Sev straining at Cande's leash?
So many wonderful comments, too many to address them all. I read and appreciate each one.
It's clear we all are enjoying this.
Sara, thank you! This was wonderful.
Diana
I also thought the lamp was hideous and kind of reminded me of the pants Valley was wearing. Meow.
His loss much different than Aldonza's, her's crushing, the rape like piling stones on her chest and refuses herself the luxury of feeling.
Despite have Adelina, Aldonza feels utterly alone in the world. She is just a tragic a figure as her mother. I really hate Sev and Cande both for what they did to Aldonza.
And if they have Cande act all shocked and appalled when she finds out what Sev did, I don't know what I'll do.
Well, Val certainly loosened Cris,s scarf. He thinks that he fooled around and fell in love. Dumbbunny. Now to make the big announcement.
I noticed that smirk on Can's face when Severed was impressing on her that HE was Cris's father...heh.
Hmm.exactly what did Ray do to Severed ? There is more story there.
Roberta's cough..uhoh..not a good omen . Her life of twirly skirts, dudes, booze, and cigs is catching up to her. Yikes.
Ok, I am conflicted in how I need to be thinking about what Roberta is doing. She has converted an activity that she seems to always have had a penchant for doing (going to bed with random guys) into a way to support her family with a level of success (they have a maid). She used to do this for nothing (ie with Sever), then progressed to doing it to cover her bar tab, then finally used it to make a solid living for her family. Is this a bad thing?
Vivi, thank you for your explanation of how Mexican degrees are earned, and what the various terms mean.
Diva, your "dating for dollars" and "hormone goggles" were great.
David
Yes! I love how they are dropping all these little hints of possible stories to come. Here's hoping they don't get dropped!
Thank you David! I would be conflicted only if I felt like Roberta really made a more conscious choice in her profession. I feel like she was sort of pushed into it or didn't feel like there was anything else for her to do. I mean if a lady wants to get paid for her services, I have no problem with it. I just feel like Roberta just found herself in that profession and not really wanting to but not feeling like she had a choice.
Am I making any sense?
David - I hadn't thought about it that much, but you raise good points. She provides a service for which she is apparently paid in both gifts and monetary recompense. She's not hurting anyone (except for herself. And probably some wives, anonymously.) I guess the question is, why isn't she doing something else? She def gives the impression that she doesn't think she's good for much else. It kind of makes me wonder about her and Adelina's childhoods/parents or guardians.
Tofie - His loss much different than Aldonza's, her's crushing, the rape like piling stones on her chest and refuses herself the luxury of feeling. -That was lovely!
In the synopsis for this novela, it was stated that she is an agonomist" which might be a misspelling for "agronomist".
El pez por la boca muere. applies to Roberta AND Cris! The meaning is clear with Roberta and for Cris, he has just been reeled in by Vale and Cande. Damned Shame.
On to the comments which I know will be insightful, funny and as enjoyable as the recap!
Thank you, Sara!
For this, they owe us a dramatic, heart-pounding, re-wind worthy reunion of Cris and Aldonza.
Tofie, I too thought this was lovely: His loss much different than Aldonza's, her's crushing, the rape like piling stones on her chest and refuses herself the luxury of feeling.
And Diana, this as well:
Aldonza, regal and proud, insulating herself, her heart and emotions in a cocoon of loneliness. Roberta, trying to submerge her pain in the uncaring, cold arms of others.
*sigh!* Damn! Amazing patio this is!
Sara and Lila - yes, that's a great line. I totally did not process it last night, but it certainly fits them both.
Is the guaypo hombre in the lilac jacket who was admiring AL at college in the opening sequence? If so, he has a role to play. Perhaps he was also an agronomy major and will be working beside her. Our girl AL needs a love interest to make fickle Cris get his head out of his...scarf.
"get his head out of his...scarf."
HAHA!!
The only thing that I find interesting about this show, are Lyle and Madrigal playing opposites now. Since in PSMA, they were a couple, and even though they are a couple now in a way, Madrigal is a villain in this.
Also, I was surprised to see Susana Gonzalez return to a novela, after she said that she wanted to take some time off to be with her children.
Hope everything is going well.
Does anyone know this actor's name? Hope we will see more of him in this or other TN's.
Susanlynn - hahaha that seals it: Cande is on Pinterest.
Anon 1:21 - no idea who he was, but he was pretty darn pretty!
Thank you Vivi in D C for the great comments on the university system in. Mexico. I learn something new everyday. And Diva...."dating for dollars". .LOL. Will add that to my ever growing TN vocabulary. Right up there with Eli's "f*ckery". Who ever came up with the "Naugthy Melon". Love it. Will drop by for a drink this evening.
Nice seeing so many peeps on the patio this a.m.
Tofie, I loved the entry for Roberta!
tofie-you know I love your willingness to rip the galan a new one!!
Anon-I wish I knew who it was, too!
emeraldrose-Thank you! I'm so glad you liked it! Isn't the patio just the greatest?
Eli-Thank you! I'm glad you loved it. I'm flattered! Like Lila, I am in awe of you and Kat's recapping skillz.
write a couple of them.--- Sev has filled him in on all the latest so ray will turn over in his grave. --- and---Sev mentions his willingness to pay anyone who helps him find his prey...er....
the woman.
I know that this show is drawing a lot of interest and so I read this recap first. By the time that I had read it and the comments that followed, there were
98 already, many of them brilliant. I don't how to add to all of this but I will try.
Yesterday it was suggested that a Valeria dart board should be hung up on the patio. I would suggest a mannequin so that Valeria can be darted from all sides. Am I being too mean?
I don't want to but I do have to give her credit though. She's smart and knows how to play the strategy game. Cris doesn't even know that he is under attack.
I have often thought that although
men have muscle, brawn and might women can often overpower those attributes with cunning and brainpower. Valeria is proving that to be true.
Will there be a Valeria/Cris wedding? I hope not.
Good---let Val and Cris get together. It will be fun when Aldonza and Cris meet once again and Aldonza takes Cris away from
her. I just hope that Aldonza is strong and can fight because it looks like it will be three (Val-
Cande and Sever) against one. I don't think that Roberta will be around by then. Adelina?
Tofie---Your list is great as usual.
Both Tofie and Diana have great stuff, well thought out about last night but with my one finger typing??? well, two great comments
Vivi---Thank you with your great book of knowledge as well. The Mexican degree testing is much different than here isn't it? A bid difference.
Must see tv tonight.
the gringo
gringo-I really like the mannequin idea!
and you said:
"By the time that I had read it and the comments that followed, there were 98 already, many of them brilliant. I don't how to add to all of this..."
I feel the same way. I read every comment and they ARE so brilliant. I wish I could add more to the conversation. Really I should just lurk, but I waaant to taaaalk.
:-)
Valeria wants him so why not put on the full court press to get him?
Anti Valerianess? I don't know, I just don't like her. She doesn't seem like a nice person to me. I understand that women feel that if men can go out for one night flings, then why can't women? It's
not just that---It's her haughty attitude, she seems to have that snob appeal to me. She is nice looking but her attitude isn't nice. I just don't want to see Cris with her and even if she does get her golden prize, I think that she would soon tire of him and not be faithful. Maybe there are others out on the patio with different views but I just don't like her, she doesn't appear to be of good character to me.
the gringo
I do hope they at least start planning a wedding, because even the nicest people will get a little nutty under that kind of stress, so add that to the inevitable return of Aldonza and Valeria is bound to show the cracks in her veneer! (She says, as she rubs her hands together in gleeful anticipation....)
That's a real buzz-kill for me.
