Rot in hell Severiano La Sombra Del Pasado #12 03/04/2015

Here's a quick recap, totally from memory so if I missed something let me know!

Cristobal is looking for Aldonza on social networking sites when his mother walks in to the room, he looks like he got caught looking at adult websites! She wants to know if he is searching for Aldonza and he tells her that yes, that's what he is doing. She tells him to let it go, nothing good can come of it and sometimes you have to let love go. He wants to know if that's what she did, is that why she has such a cold relationship with his father? She tells him that's not the point and Cristobal puts his foot down: he won't allow her to run his life!

Candela leaves in a huff and runs straight to Severiano, he has to do something! Severiano tells her she has nothing to worry about, Aldonza won't be coming back into town. Candela wants to know what guarantee she has of that and he tells her that she has his word, she tells him that his word is worth nothing. This does not go over well with Serv who tells her his word is all she has and that he knows the women won't come back. She asks him what he did to be so sure but of course he refuses to tell her-because how do you explain that you raped a defenseless girl, right?

When she's alone Candela again wonders what Sev did, I know she's a cold puppy, but I don't think she has any idea of how brutal and disgusting her husband is.

Back in his room Cris finds Aldonza on-line, he sends her several IMs telling her he loves her and misses her and asking for an explanation into as to why she left town, Aldonza finally replies that although she loves him their love can never be and tells him to forget about her, she signs out of Socialbook and Cristobal is left heartbroken. Sidenote: I met my boyfriend in 9th grade, we had the same class for 4 years and talked only once, three years ago I saw him on Facebook, added him as a friend and now he's been stuck with me for two years, so social networking stalking works!

Aldonza cries as Adelina hugs her and Cristobal has made up his mind to leave town. Dominga does her best to make him feel better but she can't  cure what ails him. This is what got me, Dominga is heartbroken because Cristobal is hurt and she cries because he is in pain. Candela on the other hand cries because she's not getting her way.

Cristobal packs his bags and gets on a taxi, he is going back to Spain because there is nothing left for him in las Animas. Valeria misses him by a few minutes and is surprised to learn that he left town. Candela tells her they need to talk later and she runs off.

Jeronimo is the unlucky person she chooses to go visit. She wants to know where Aldonza and company are and he tells her he has no idea, and even if he did know he'd never tell her. Candela then asks if Cristobal went to see him and he says that he did and he also asked about Aldonza but he told him the same thing he's telling her:he has no idea where she is. He also makes it clear that if he did know where she was he would have gladly given Cristobal the information. Candela tells him that in the past the town priest would be involved in EVERYTHING that was happening in town and Jeronimo replies with "isn't it great that we don't live in the past? Take that you witch!

Candela and Valeria meet up for coffee, and they start to plot a way for Valeria to get her claws into Cristobal-who has arrived in Spain and has sent out texts saying he does not want to be bothered by anyone, good luck with that kid.

In Mexico City Aldonza is having a dream about Cristobal coming for her, the dream soon becomes a nightmare when dream Cristobal turns into Severiano. Aldonza wakes up screaming and Adelina comes in to comfort her.

Meanwhile Roberta is at a bar and she's getting wasted. She tells the bar tender about all her woes and as the night goes on she becomes more and more of a mess, she curses Severiano for all the awful things he did to her, and to her daughter. I feel for Roberta but also think a lot of this is her fault. She had a loving and kind husband and she killed him to save her lover, she saved the man that would later rape her daughter.

She could have sold her lands and left Las Animas and given her daughter a fair shot at life and instead her pride won out and she stayed in a place where people were not only hateful to her but to her daughter as well. My point is that Severiano is a pig but Roberta shares a good deal of blame as well.

Roberta drunk dials Severiano and tells him he will burn in hell and that he is trash, when the call finally ends Severiano looks at the caller ID and has a light-bulb moment. Way to go Roberta! The last time I had too much to drink I sold my soul for five bucks and told my boyfriend that I could have been born a pigeon. So the lesson here:don't drink and dial!

The bartender walks Roberta home only to rob her, oh Roberta, you just can't win.

The next day Sev calls a police chief in Mexico City and tells him some story about having some horses that he is sure the man wants to see, then before the call ends he tells the chief that he is looking for a family member but only has a phone number, maybe the police chief could use his influence and contacts to help him find the person.

In Spain Cristobal is taking a walk when he bumps into Valeria, he lays into her asking her why she is there when he made it clear that he wanted to be left alone. Valeria acts like she's hurt and tells him that she's there for school not for him then she leaves and I wanted her to fall for wearing that stupid skirt!

Cristobal calls home and his mom tells him that Valeria wanted to study something that you can't get a degree for in Mexico, that's why she's in Spain. Cris feels like a bum and gets some flowers for Valeria in order to apologize, she manages to get him to agree to go out with her and this makes me want to pull my hair out.

Last night we were also introduced to Abelardo (that's the name for Mexican Big Bird) and his sister Mari, he tells her that Valeria went running after Cristobal but that she's not the good girl she appears to be, he knows this for a fact cause they have been having some fun together. His sister calls him a liar but he maintains that his story is true.

Severiano is a rat bastard and goes to Raymundos grave, he tells him that he's getting revenge for the things Ray did to him, he will get his lands back and he managed to make his daughter pay for his lost arm. Sick bastard. Die already!

That's it for today folks!

PS:I jus want to thank you guys for your awesome comments, this group is awesome sauce!

I'll be stalking this page like Valeria. Only I'll be more subtle. Because it's not hard to be more subtle than Valeria.

If you plan on dropping by the Naughty Melon Bar, you actually can order a snifter of Midori Melon liquer. It's a real thing! Maybe over ice, I think it's kinda sweet. So...Midori Melon recipes, anyone? In coffee perhaps?

Hello! I'm not quite sure where to post this, but I'm hoping that it will reach the eyes of our benevolent 'blog mammas' on here, just in regards to an idea that I have and would like to pursue...

That being said, let it be known that I work on the internet and, perhaps resultant of such (I don't have to try and hide what I'm doing should my Boss walk by), I'm aware of how many scintillating, tittilating, stimulating moments there presently are out there on the internet, at least in regards to the world of telenovelas.

Thus, my question is this.... is there any way, (and would your readers even be INTERESTED in) a post- every week, once a week, that draws attention to an important event in a novela, previously unknown to most its viewers? I am pretty sure that I've got enough scope and knowledge (at the risk of sounding immodest), that I think that I could come up with something, weekly, that viewers would both ENJOY, and would ALSO appreciate, in terms of illuminating and introducing them to something, in this genre that we all love so much, that they previously knew very little about.

Of course, any and all submissions would be submitted to you and our 'Blog-Momma-Masters' beforehand for the ultimate approval (just to ensure that they contain no spoilers in regards to anything going on within the 'CarayCaray' community at the time, as well as to ensure they meet the basic (high) standards with which this site is known for... ;-)

And so, that being said, please let me know what you all think: I am proposing, basically, a weekly video-posting to an interesting/famous (whatever that word means) telenovela moment, with an introduction and invitation to respond to same. Would any of you be interested in this and, (even more importantly)- blog Mammas- is this indeed possible???

With my best wishes to all, as ever and always....

Stevey :-)

OMG Kat "I'll be stalking this page like Valeria..." I laughed out loud. Excellent!

Eli, I must admit that I did not watch this - after Freddy's murder I needed to take the night off.

I am looking forward to your recap and hope that there might have been a brief respite from mayhem and murder (?)

Diana

Good morning everyone!

Hi Stevey - you're idea sounds fun, but I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean. Can you give an example of the kind of clip you're talking about?

I, too, will be refreshing constantly. I must say I am fascinated by this novel partially bedcause I can compare it to its predecessor. On that note, I LOVE the new scenes! I think they're handling the texting/messaging well and in a way that makes sense. Because so many novelas are remakes, I often feel like they ignore things that changed since the original. In TSTSNBN, when Idiot 1 went to NY and Idiot 2 stayed behind, the lack of communication was frustrating. Maybe things are really different in Mexico and I'm showing my ignorance, but I didn't understand why Idiot 2 couldn't go to a library to use and get help with the Internet. For that reason, I'm glad Sombra dealt with this immediately because I would've def been scratching my head about it.

Right now, the only thing I wish they had done (and I'm really struggling with this so feel free to clue me in if you guys get it): why didn't they insert scenes of Cris and Aldonza falling in love . Normally, I wear my beanie on this point because TNs go with a basic love at first sight or grew up together premise, but this one is so well done and has such a strong outline, that I don't get it. I have to say the first scene that had merolling my eyes and asking QTH?! was Cris' declaration of love the night of the fire and nothing since has help dispel my disbelief.

hellashelle- love your description of our leads in TSTSNBN. Idiots indeed.

As for your question about them falling in love... I've given up ever seeing scenes like that. They would rather waste time with other kinds of filler I guess. And I'm talking about other shows. Not this one.

With this one I suspect there are lots of things they want to cover and they decided the falling in love part wasn't as important since Viewerville understands the leads are in love. Am I making sense?

This comment has been removed by the author.

Stevey- Do you mean something like a "Best Moments in Telenovela History" post with a link to an online (YouTube) video? Or a behind the scenes of telenovelas post (that wouldn't be gossip)? Either way, you sound excite about the idea. You should make you own blog and invite us to check it out. Plenty of Caraymates have created other kinds of related blogs and invited us over.

Sara- :) yeah, those two just made me smh and close my eyes 90% the TN.

Now, I will prob bring this one up a lot because I LOVED it so much, but I really appreciated how Amor Bravio gave us time to see the leads falling for each other. There could've been more, of course, but at least there were solid reasons to think they actually loved each other, not just their repeated declarations.

For now, I guess I'll hold out hope that they started with passion and puppy love and I'll get some of what I'm looking when we get into the serious true love part of this.

I did like that had a pseudo conversation about this. I really love how this galan stressing that element: we need to talk about this. And I like that Aldonza got to say "I love you" but I kind of wish she had had a better follow up comment than "that's why I know I'll never forget you."

HellaShelle- I don't mind that they didn't spend a ton of time on the lovebirds. I suspect they will do so when the story moves forward, but right now I appreciate spending time with the veteran actors (especially Susana), and moving the story along.

Now, as for last night, I was certain it would be Aldonza's foray online that would get them found, and was shocked that it was Roberta drunk dialing the enemy herself. Dammit, Roberta!

Valeria, with her coach Cande, is a champion stalker. The whole Spain trip was very well played, and it looks like she'll get Cris exactly where she wants.

OT- I will forever regret not watching Amor Bravio. I think that that producer doesn't hook me from the beginning (that's just me!) I didn't immediately take a shine to QA either. I'm glad I went back to QA though.

I haven't watched very many TNs, so I really can't think of any where the falling in love was really addressed. It's always been a wham! In love situation.

I'm rewatching the cap, and I think the reason why the lack of falling in love scenes is bugging me so much is that Cris' reaction seems a little over the top as a result. I'm also a little surprised that Cande didn't pushthe original trip to Spain more. I'm not saying her angle isn't believable, I'm just surprised. (PS: Was any one else terrified that Val was going to already be in Cris' Spain apt when he got there andpop out of the shadows like a nutcase?)

Oh and not just the drunk dialing... The fact the Sev has got his damn satanic tentacles/minions everywhere, not just Santa Lucía.

Pop goes the Sleazle!

Who started that? I can't remember.

Still watching the ep and just want to say

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Not another puppetmaster mumma and marionette mumma's boy NOOOOOOOOO!!

I am tired this morning - I did not watch QTPD last night, I DID watch this and am looking forward to the recap.

Diana

Sara - LOL I don't know who started it, but I fully support its return and continued use!

Vivi- I agree that the "grown ups" story is awesome and I'm glad they're spending the time on it that they are because it is so great. I just feel that that makes the gap of the lovebirds build that much weirder. The other relationships make sense to me, they had a rich history even before the first episode! That's why I don't get why they didn't stick some foundation setting scenes in there. They don't need many - implications go a long way. For example, after C and A decided to be friendly, despite their families' mutual hatred, and shook on it, I don't get why we couldn't get a scene of the two of them running into each other later and the implication that they hung out for an afternoon or two. I was actually holding out hope that Aldie would go back to Social with a diff ID and stay in touch with Cris that way, without him knowing (did that happen in PSMA or some other TN?)

On a different note, I am totally with you on the drunk dialing. I was screaming at screen "No! Now he has the number!" (PS: Why does she have his cell phone number?) Ugh, and when she got robbed, I just hook my head and sighed because it was so disappointing and sad, but it totally helped set up some points about her character and her relationship with her sister and daughter.

Lilla - LOL. Well when you have a TN mom antagonist, at some point she's going to pull your strings! At least this time, Cande and Val aren't as obvious as a typical mom/DIL match up.

Sara - those drinks look delicious! (that shade of green is a little bright, but I;m willing to overlook that). This morning, I think I'll take a Midori Orange and Sparkling. That's practically a mimosa, right?

I think Roberta's a hard liquor, but at the same time, sparkling or at least bright with citrus. She seems like a double shot in terms of amount, something you can drink quickly, to start the party hard and fast, something you can finish before you've had a chance to think.

Helleshelle, with you on the, when did they fall in love that deeply, was kinda a yellow leaf in an otherwise beautiful floral arrangement.

I definitely can see Roberta drunk dialing. Roberta is an accident waiting to happen. Love Susana and she's bringing it but Roberta shot her husband in the back to protect her lover and burned his body.

Well, it's a classic TN cliche to have the main twosome fall madly in love immediately, so I'm a bit immune to it though it borders on unrealistic. But being these two are separated, it will bring a whole different level of being apart for whatever time and then see how things go. Maybe that's where will see the growth and working their way back to each other slowly.

As for Roberta...lord she is truly a train wreck and you know she is the classic example of someone who can't get out of her own way. There seems to be this little black cloud that hovers over her wherever she goes.

I've already thought about buying a Valeria dart board we can use on the patio. Lord that girl drives me batty and I also want to take a brush or comb or something to her hair. UGH.

Daisynjay

hellashelle: (PS: Was any one else terrified that Val was going to already be in Cris' Spain apt when he got there and pop out of the shadows like a nutcase?)
Yes! I sure did and wondered if anyone else did, too. I actually had a little flutter of terror! I wonder if they did that on purpose!

The drunk dialing makes me recall that Roberta is her own and her family's worst enemy. There's been a lot of empathy for Roberta and speculation about possible sexual abuse in her life and it all rings true AND I don't dislike her. I think, however, that Susana, and not Roberta, has provoked some of these feelings.

Go back and look at the first episodes. Roberta treated Raimundo with mockery and contempt thinly vieled by a supposed veneer of being overwhelmed with the trials of new motherhood. I got the impression that she had not resumed intimacy with him, for which he was patiently waiting while she had already let Severiano nail her and knock her up. She left her baby alone to chase him down and was as addicted to his sick attentions as she is to liquor. Her sister tried to talk sense into her as well and we all know how it ended up. Ironically Raimundo saved HER life because had he not driven his truck up in that barn I am certain Sev was about to shoot her.

So, she may call him the devil and rant that she wants him to burn in hell, but just like the drunken call, SHE has beckoned this demon into their lives. NOTHING excuses the rape of Aldonza but Roberta did NOT have to have an affair with ANY man, let alone the satanic Severiano Mendoza and all of them are still paying!

I have not had a chance to watch last night’s episode, but we are snowed in today (3” of fresh stuff…. will it ever end?) so I’ll get to watch.

Roberta is an alcoholic, which brings out all her other problems and magnifies them. She drinks to anesthetize herself and she has the addiction. The poor woman needs AA badly, but denial is the biggest symptom (well, after the drinking and its consequences) and I doubt she will ever get better.

Well, on that note, I'm ready to hit the Naughty Melon and try a melon-tini or a melon-politan. ;o)

"Go back and look at the first episodes. Roberta treated Raimundo with mockery and contempt thinly vieled by a supposed veneer of being overwhelmed with the trials of new motherhood. "
So true, Lila. In fact, your whole post is well written and I totally agree. Did we ever decide if Roberta suffers borderline personality disorder? Something is wrong with her besides the alcoholism.

Yes, Lila. I agree that we all have a soft-spot for Roberta because Susana has managed to bring some humanity to an otherwise vile character.

And I was VERY frustrated by her drunk dial!!

daisynjay-I'll buy the darts!!! Val works my nerves.

doris- I keep forgetting to tell you how much I love your doggy princess :-)

Thank you Doris and Sara. This is the first time I've seen an actress excellently portray a character yet the character is loved and sympathized with because the actress is so loved and respected. I'm not pointing a finger here, I totally get it but just felt the need to remind myself that, hey, wait a minute, if you court the devil, your life will be hell!

Absolutely! Roberta bears a great deal of the blame for not only what is happening to herself, but also what happened to Ray and Aldonza. Her mistakes are destroying the people who love her most. It's amazing Adelina hasn't had something horrible happen to her too because of Roberta's actions...although that might be coming.

Sara--You're on. And we can all sip Melon-tini's while we play.

I agree on the assessment on Roberta bringing so much on herself. Like I said, can't get out of her own way. The fact that Susanna brings so much humanity to the roll though is a pleasant surprise for a TN. This could easily have been played for cliche. There is that feeling, almost what I think Emmanuel saw, in wanting to just protect her and make it better for her. I'm sure Raimundo has tried, as has her sister and own daughter, but it paints a realistic picture of an alcoholic and someone who has reached that level of despair. They have to admit to themselves they have the problem, and though you see Susanna play her as someone who hates herself for what she's done, she goes right back to the same behavior. The future for her seems bleak.

Daisynjay

Yes, Daisynjay, you said it first: she can't get out of her own way! Man, I'm afraid for tonight now that Roberta has summoned the devil once again!

Why does the Ice Queen want to know what Sever did to Aldonza, just for the sick pleasure of knowing that Aldonza suffered or would she tell Cris without saying who did it that Aldonza had been raped?

"Why does the Ice Queen want to know what Sever did to Aldonza, just for the sick pleasure of knowing that Aldonza suffered or would she tell Cris without saying who did it that Aldonza had been raped?"

I know!! Is she asking because she is only now suspecting her husband is a sick bastard? Or has she always had a suspicion and she secretly likes it?

And so what if she told Cris Aldonza had been RAPED. I would think that would bring the two lovers TOGETHER.

In Cande's mind I'm sure she hopes the rape would make Aldonza unfit, untouchable, damaged, etc. and thus turn her precious hijito away. That would be the spirit in which she would share it.

Interesting that at the end of last night's ep the brother of Valeria's BFF informs her that he and Vale have "known" each other for a long time, and often. Does Cande think Valeria is "pure" or, being of a "better" social class, it doesn't matter?

Lila- Valeria clearly does her stuff on the down low, as even her friend didn't know she's been knocking boots with her brother.

Helllo, all. well, we are in the middle of yet another snow day here.As I type this, I am gazing out the sliding door watching the deck fill with snow and the trees hanging under the weight of snow. Perhaps one of Severed's anvils might include having him relocate to the northeast. All the local schools are closed...again.

Lila..Tell it sister. Right on ..right on. Dealing with addiction or dealing with someone dealing with addiction is an ongoing hell. I have a very good friend whose daughter-in-law has been in and out of rehab for alcoholism , and she is colleged educated from a wealthy family and only in her 30s. Her husband and 5 year old son are devastated as our her parents and in-laws. Ironically, her mother-in-law, my friend,as a high school teacher worked with teens with addictions . Our own ex (thank goodness)son-on-law quite suddenly changed his personality completely as he fell back in to multiple addictions...alcohol, drugs, gambling. His problems have affected our whole family. Roberta is , indeed, her own worst enemy and a danger to not only herself but everyone around her.

Hellashelle..I completely agree about being disappointed that we did not have scenes of AL and Cris falling in love. How hard would it have been to show us a bit of frolicking at the waterfall and Cris picking wild strawberries to feed to Al ?

Sorry..I am anonymous in the previous post. The snow has made me a little punchy.

Susanlynn- I'm here at home on a snow day too. Let's hope it's last for the season.

Susanlynn, it is a painfully realistic portrayal of the devastation of addiction which, unfortunately, I have seen up close myself. Unlike the depiction of poverty and disability we saw in tstsnbn which was. . .uh stooped and shallow. . .this is an informed and gripping portrait of addiction and other deep human issues which is making for a compelling story.

Whew! After the tstsnbn La Sombra is a heart full, isn't it?

*stupid and shallow

Hey anyone--Was the woman playing the mom of Valeria's friend and brother Geno from QA?

Absolutely right, Sara! That IS Geno!

Vivi...I have had it with snow, and I am sure that you have, too.

Diana...I had to give up on the ten o'clock. It was too dark and on to late. I recorded the show , but sometimes I did not have time to watch. Are you getting this snow ?

Lila and Sara: I think Cande wants to know because she always knows. She's a control freak, in charge of every last detail and she likes it that way. Not knowing makes her...uneasy. I think it's because she can't troubleshoot if something goes wrong.

I actually laughed last night when Cande said "priests used to get involved in people's lives!" when PJ refused to go metiche at her whim. I think he handled that attack well.

I was a little upset that Aldonza and Adelina woke up with full makeup. Pet peeve.

From the look of the advances, Valeria got Cris just where she wanted him....in that bed of need that looks like it is on a stage. Is the actress playing Val the daughter of a famous tn actress who was in Destilando Amir ?

''Of need''. Was supposed to be ''of hers''

No, that's Sofia Castro. Val is being played by Thelma Madrigal.

Oops. I forgot to say I think that's great casting because she and Cynthia Klitbo favor each other.

Sara- No. Thelma Madrigal plays Val. You're thinking of Sofia Castro who was in Por Siempre Mi Amor with Thelma, as her coniving best friend.

Please read my comment.

Sorry- Meant to direct that answer at Susanlynn, but Sara has already responded anyway. :)

hellashelle, that makes TOTAL sense?

Susanlynn, with what you said about previews and mentioning Destilando Amor, I kind of long for a galan who has ED with everyone except his beloved: the main lovers getting married, having babies and now being raped. . .oh, *sigh* for the lost virginity of the leading couple, even if it's "involuntary"!

:|

Lila

Ok. Whew. I was afraid I wasn't clear.

BTW I thought "bed of need" was fine.

I think the tablet comes up with good stuff.

Lila and Sara: Also, I think she would tell Cris in the hopes that it would turn him away from Aldonza. She tried before the rape, just using the town rumors ("her mother's a tramp, I'm sure she's the same"). Right now she seems to want Cris with Val because she's acceptable, she's a known entity and, most importantly, she's not Roberta's daughter. God help her, she is NOT going to let Roberta "steal her husband" AND have her daughter "steal" her son. But if she had another alternative she would prob drop Val.

PS: Loved the fire imagery Rob used last night at the bar! She herself said that she had to put out her fire because it was consuming her. Glad she sees it.

Sara...Yes, sometimes I think that there is some artificial intelligence happening with my tablet. It can be very opinionated. Sometimes, it edits my comments , and at other times ,it will not post them. As if to say to me ''eh...Do you really want to post that ?''

I didn't watch Destilando Amor. Did the galan have ED? (PS: I was confused by your comment. Did you mean to use an !, or did you mean you didn't think my comment made sense?)

Most main characters seem to wait for marriage, just as a rule. I found it refreshing when in AB the main characters did not wait, but made it clear that they were devoted to each other and didn't get pregnant, which is usually the plot reason behind not waiting. Also, when Pablo y Luzma got married, they didn't sleep together for months because she was still traumatized by her rape. Otherwise, sex still seems to be a symbol of the morally loose in TNs.

HellaShelle- Also add that she thinks she can control Val. She would never want a DIL with Lola's personality, for example. By the way, LOVED the way Lola blew past her last episode to tell Cris that Aldonza was leaving. LOL!

It was so cool last night when Roberta herself picked up on the fire imagery for herself. She must be reading our blog. ;-)

it seems that Cande thinks that she can control Val. I have a funny feeling that she is wrong about that.Val seems to do whatever ...and whomever ...Val wants to do,

hi, Vivi...same thought !!!

Susanlynn- Agreed. I think once Val has what she wants, she will stop being so agreeable and accommodating to Cande. Notice how she blows off her mother and tells her to butt out. That's because she know Pru isn't helpful to her cause, but Cande is. She's using Cande as much as Cande is using her. And now we know she's been having some fun on the side, so she's not been pining away for Cris. She just wants him for herself.

In DA, the Galen Big Ed Yanez could not do it with anyone but his one true love GAVIOTAAAA.Therefore, fidelity was a sure thing.

Morning all! Lots of comments...I think I'm caught up! I'm sorry if I miss anybody!

Stevey, that kind of question definitely has to go to caray [at] mappamundi.com for the one-and-only BlogMom, Jane, to give you a ruling on. We're more like Blog, uh, Aunties or Blog Minions or something :) She's the only one who can grant posting privileges. But I can tell you that yes, I'd be interested, so if you also went the route that Vivi suggested and started a blog of your own and let us know where to find it, I'd subscribe/bookmark it.

hellashelle, Sara, tofie re: the lack of any actual falling in love between Cristobal and Aldonza: I don't think they really *are* in love yet. It's very Romeo and Juliet "seriously, you guys have only known each other for 3 days, chill!" I think we haven't seen the real falling in love yet. And I hope we do.

hellashelle, re: technology: Oh, I LOVE that! And I'm hoping that it means they're really going to up their game. I was disappointed, though, that while Aldonza seems to have a basic knowledge about computers, and it sounds like that's something they taught her and Lola at school, they seem to have left out the talk about security. I hope the next thing her new friend teaches her is how to BLOCK people she doesn't want to find her.

Sara, hellashelle re: Valeria: That whole situation grosses me out. And, yes, I thought she'd be in his apartment. Mr. 5ft thought she would pop out of his luggage. She's Satan's Jack in the Box, popping up at regular intervals and putting on that innocent face and calling herself his "friend." And I don't like that they play it like it's not a big deal because she's a girl. No, regardless of gender, what she's doing is not the way you treat a friend.

tofie, Daisynjay, Lila, doris, Sara, Vivi, Susanlynn re: Roberta: I want her to get help so badly and actually deal with her problems. And I wish her sister and her daughter would realize that she's an alcoholic and they can't just make her "promise to be good" and expect that to fix everything. If that was going to work, it would have worked already. Get her to a therapist, get her to AA, go online and look for information...something! Anything! I forget, too, that she has done some bad stuff. But that's what I love is that they've given us this character who has done bad things, but isn't a bad person, but isn't necessarily a nice person, either. We have some 100% Good and 100% Bad characters, but the rest of them are just flawed people. I think I want some redemption for Roberta because I get the feeling there's something there to redeem. Unlike Sev. And maybe Candela.

Lila, Sara, hellashelle re: Candela: I think that even though they've brought the show up to date, some of the older characters are still stuck back in the "old days." If there's no consent, that's not sex, that's rape. Neither sex nor rape somehow makes a person less worthy as a person. But Candela's still living back in that era and I do think if she got the details of what Sev had done, she would tell Cristobal, because she really believes that that makes Aldonza unworthy and hasn't caught on that the world has changed and he's not automatically going to agree with her. While I think Cristobal is firmly living in the now, it does bother me that his response to "what if I told you you wouldn't be the first man to be with her" was to say "she's not like her mother" rather than "what does that have to do with anything?" As for Valeria, I do think Candela would be disgusted--not that Valeria has had sex, but that she had sex with someone Candela thinks is beneath them. I'm sure as far as Candela is concerned, she and her family are one "class"; Pru, Humberto, and Valeria are beneath her, but still acceptable; everyone else is riff-raff.

Good points, Vivi and Susanlynn. Yes, Cande def likes Val for her current pliability, but we need see hints of rebellion a few episodes ago when she rebuked her mom for pushing her on Cris without considering whether Val actually wanted Cris. Unfortunately for our protagonists, she has currently decided that she does want him. She seems a little...caprichosa? Is that the right word?

To edit my previous post: I strike the comment that most main couples wait and would edit that to say that when they don't, they often end up preggers.

Vivi...Yes, with Cande and Val it is who's zooming whom ? They both have their plans. Pru and Val want Val to hook the most eligible bachelor in town..all that family power and money. Cande meanwhile wants to make sure that Cris does not go wandering into a lower social class...especially not with Roberta's daughter. Lovely people these. It must be exhausting being Cande trying so desperately to manage the universe. Just getting my hair all tightened up like that everyday would make me exhausted....and cranky.

Hi Diva! sorry, didn't see your post when I replied. LOL Satanic Jill-in-a-box! The perfect present when you're trying to trap your galan in a loveless relationship. Now available in Spain!

I actually think Val is playing this well. Is she had popped up, Cris would've been like "Whoa, I need to block this chick from my life!" Instead, she basically made him feel like an his ego grew three sizes too big (and, if her story was true, he would've been acting like one).

I think you're right and Cande would be a bit disgusted that Val knocked boots with the bankers son, but they're prob not that much further down the social ladder in Santa Lucia. The question is, would she still use Val to try to bump Aldonza off of Cris's radar, or would she scrap that plan altogether?

Glad to know I'm not the only one holding out hope for some real falling in love scenes :)

Gee, wouldn't it be great if Severed was not Cris's father. Hey, how about Ray turning out to be Emmanuel's father ? Emmanuel does have Ray s sweet nature along with Roberta's dark good looks. Let's have Severed shooting blanks all these years.

Susanlynn, "Lovely people these. It must be exhausting being Cande trying so desperately to manage the universe. Just getting my hair all tightened up like that everyday would make me exhausted....and cranky." Oh, hell yes! I would be 10000000000000% ok with Sev not having reproduced and I don't care how they accomplish that, I'll just pull my beanie tighter and go with it.

hellashelle, I think until some other girl shows up who's, I dunno, royalty or something, Candela's going to keep using Valeria no matter what. And as long as Valeria is willing to be used, she's going to keep following Candela's instructions. "Now available in Spain!" ha! If a freakin' ocean isn't enough to keep him safe, what hope is there! I wish he had some buddy to pull him aside and tell him his first instincts were right and to keep an eye on his drink at the bar. A real friend. Not someone who's trying to get into his pants.

Susanlynn, I likethe way you think! ;)

Yeah. Val has used a really good strategy here, making Cris feel like some arrogant jerk with a big ego for assuming she's into him, when she only sees him as a "friend", and for assuming she's stalking him when she was just innocently and coincidentally in Spain because SHE has ALWAYS wanted to study in Spain. Well played, Val. Well played.

On a different note, I liked the dream sequence. I thought it was a good vehicle to show that while Aldonza's trying to move on, she's still haunted by the rape. I think it was especially nice that they pointed out the extra trauma of Sev being the rapist by having Cris turn into him.

Dream sequences were actually one of the only things I think Televisa did well with in TSTSNBN.

Excellent recap, Eli! To the point, but covered everything.

I now remember that I was struck by what Sever said to Ray at his grave. HE'S getting back at Ray for what HE did, and that he's getting HIS lands BACK. There's more to this story about Santuario and Ray and Sever's history (other than Roberta) that we don't know yet.

HellaShelle, that was supposed to be an exclamation point!!

Wow! A lot of comments while I was driving home and The Diva is in the hoooouuuuse! Let me go back and read 'em!

Oh, well, somebody probably already answered but yeah, the galan in DA could only rise to the occasion with his beloved!

The dream sequence was particularly effective because the words dream Cris used were then put into the mouth of nightmare Sever. Words of love in a different context turned to words of threat.

Loved, loved, loved the recap Eli!!

"This is what got me, Dominga is heartbroken because Cristobal is hurt and she cries because he is in pain. Candela on the other hand cries because she's not getting her way."

AMEN!

Also loved the advice to not drink and dial.

AND OMG! The skirt Val was wearing was HIDEOUS!! A perversion of Roberta's twirly skirts.

Kat..Yes, after all those years studying in ESpana, doesn't Cris have any buds ? I always feel so sorry for my teenaged students who tell me ''I miss my native country because I have no friends here.'' Cris seemed close to Lola and Emmanuel in spite his elitist mama, but he must have friends in Spain.

Okay..now I must pick out cakes to prove that I am not a robot. Hmm..don't robots like bandbrecognize cake?

''And recognize''

The last time I had too much to drink I sold my soul for five bucks and told my boyfriend that I could have been born a pigeon.

Took me a while to comment because when I read that, I somehow both spit out and snorted my apple cider from laughter.

Vivi - Yeah, I rewound that twice. What the heck is Sev talking about, that Raymundo took his lands? And his comment about the rape being payback for his arm had me clenching my teeth. He's lucky Ray didn't rise from the grave right then and take his other limbs!

Sara..I thought the same. Val can not rock a short, full skirt like our Roberta. Roberta may be a tragic figure, but she has style.

Eli, thanks a bunch for this great recap!

For me, Roberta doesn't look comfortable with a cigarette. She needs to watch Humphrey Bogart, Johnny Carson, and people of that era.

Sever taking that gun was not a good idea. When things begin to cave in on him, he will be found to have the weapon that killed Ray.

Roberta is just too self destructive for her own good, and anyone within grenade blast range of her.

Susanlynn, I think we got some of your snow by mistake.

5ft, here is my suggestion for gringo and my logo (I haven't cleared this with him yet): A bottle of Corona positioned diagonally across the picture, crossed by a blacksmith's hammer diagonally in the other direction, with the wording, "De Oppresso Liber" which is the Special Forces motto, and is supposed to mean "To free the oppressed."

Helleshelle, I have known several couples that seemed to fall in love at the drop of a hat, and who remained married for the rest of their lives, so that doesn't seem that implausible to me, although like you, I enjoy character development too.

David

ELI! ELIIIIIII!!!! WOOT WOOT!

Damn! From memory! You bad, girl!

I agree Eli and Vivi, the grave scene is significant. Sev is such a low down bastard though, how could he possibly be telling the truth that Ray wrong HIM and took HIS land? True there must be more to the story than we know but that lying, raping son of a dog is surely seeing events through the lens of his alternate reality!

David...I, too, believe in love at first sight. I fell in love the first time Hub walked toward me wearing his letter sweater...but then we dated for seven years while he went off to the Navy and school and I went off to college. We have been married a long time...and still dating. We grew up in a time filled with romantic songs and movies. Maybe that is the difference today.

Eli, thank you for the recap! So many great moments!

That was such an insightful question that Cris had for Candela about her relationship with his father. I don't know if he's getting it right or not, but I was definitely saying "Yeah, Candela, what love did you let go of, hm?"

Lol-ed at your story about the boyfriend :D I guess I'm the opposite--once I found old boyfriends on Facebook, I blocked them all. Jerkfaces, the lot of them! And the one that I wouldn't mind talking to or seeing how he's doing and if he ever married that girl that he went out with after we broke up doesn't seem to be on Facebook...or maybe he blocked me! Ha!

"Dominga is heartbroken because Cristobal is hurt [....] Candela on the other hand cries because she's not getting her way." Yeah, that's some telling characterization right there, and thank you for pointing it out.

That whole scene with Candela and the Padre was hilarious! I love that he's not a meddler and that he's willing to tell it like it is.

OMG, "don't drink and dial!" I'm cracking up! OK, time to put all the beverages down because it's becoming dangerous to the health of my computer to be drinking and reading this recap!

Was that not the weirdest call to the cop in the DF? All of a sudden Severiano was talking like some kind of frat boy.

I think Abelardo (aka Mexican Big Bird) and Mari are Uriel the banker's kids. If I'm not mistaken, their mom said something about their dad being "at the bank"...I'm just guessing, since there's only ever one doctor, one lawyer, one cop, etc. that he's the one and only banker we're ever going to meet.

David..Sorry about the snow, but please do not return it to me....I have enough.

We have been married a long time...and still dating.

Awwww, Susanlynn, that is SO sweet!

You make a GREAT POINT: We grew up in a time filled with romantic songs and movies.

I feel sorry for the young folk who have come up in an era where a certain genre of "music" only talks about money, getting high, "clubbin'" and labels women "bitches" and "hos." We probably grew up in the same era and that's one of the reasons I love novelas: the romance! It's also a reason why the reason dark and violent turn is so distressing. I could never watch these without you guys!

:D

Eli, hellashelle, that dream sequence freaked me out and all I was doing was watching! I'm still shuddering just thinking about it!

Susanlynn, I wonder if maybe all his friends are on their vacations back in their home countries? But, come on, not one single Spanish friend who he can call up and say "Hey, I'm back in the country." Not one single person that he just had to pick up the phone and say "Dude! I just met this awesome girl!" Maybe he's an introvert.

"I sold my soul for five bucks...." OK, here's my "I was SO drunk" story...where/when I was growing up, the place to drink was on the other side of the border, in Mexico. (I gather that's changed a LOT with the violence more recently.) I wasn't allowed to go when I was in high school, like all my friends, except for one special occasion. Once I was back from college, apparently all bets were off. So my BFF and I went with a few other friends. Got smashed because they let girls in for $5 ($15 for guys) and it was free drinks all night...damn those whiskey sours! And then on the way back I tried to sell her to the Mexican border guards. I believe I said "Come on! Five bucks for a pretty güera! How can you pass that up!" And the guys just laughed. At that time of night, with all us stupid wasted American kids crossing because the bars had closed and we needed to get home, I imagine it wasn't the first time they'd heard that offer.

Eli, Vivi, hellashelle... Sev taunting dead Ray about getting his lands back was a total QTH moment. This is how they've got me hooked, I swear! Every time I think I know what's going on...curveball!

"Roberta may be a tragic figure, but she has style." Susanlynn, you speak truth!

David, I'm starting the clip art search now!

OK, so now that I think about it...I wouldn't say I fell in love "at first sight" with Mr. 5ft, but we went for a very long walk and talked for hours, and by the time we got back to the dorm...yep, no doubt whatsoever. (If anybody watches In Plain Sight...that montage scene of Annie and Ryan staying up all night...that scene got me in the feels so bad!) So that's my completely biased criteria for when someone can say they're in love and I believe them--have they had at least one really long conversation. I don't think Cristobal and Aldonza are there yet.

I think I may have missed something last night. Where are the scenes with Cris has no friends and the it's no big deal b/c she's a girl parts?

Lila..."'When I Fall in Love''...it will be forever.

I think that media definitely is the message and has a big effect in people.

OK, clearly I need some lunch to perk my brain up again! In Plain Sight? *facepalm* I'm mixing up my USA shows...it was Covert Affairs.

Or maybe it was hellashelle's nostalgia for Amor Bravio that had me thinking of Cristian de la Fuente, who was in IPS...yeah, that's my excuse :p

Diva-you tried to sell your friend! That's all kinds of awesome! I still have the five bucks in my wallet- I can't ever use them cause I don't want to be the jerk that sold her soul for cheetos, ya know?

hellashelle, there are no scenes of Cris *with* any friends in Spain, and the only friends I've seen him with are Lola and Emmanuel back in Santa Lucia, which seems odd. Maybe he does have some friends in Spain, but there's been no evidence of that. And, again, maybe that's just how he rolls and that's how he likes it.

As for the no big deal, that's a TN staple that women can sexually assault men and they don't portray it as something to be taken seriously. Sometimes it's even played for laughs. It's not something they're saying with words, it's something they've been saying for a very long time with actions. I'm just jumping to the conclusion that it will be no different when Valeria carries out her plan.

Eli, sold my soul for Cheetos...oh, no, it's gotta be worth at least a bottle of wine. Hey, sometimes those $3.99 bottles at the grocery store are pretty good. Not that I've studied that in depth or anything. *innocent look*

On Christmas eve I drank a whole bottle of wine all by myself, I was munching on Tostitos and watching a Walking Dead Marathon, it was good times, lol.

I think if I watched The Walking Dead while drunk, I'd run screaming out into the street! That show's disturbing enough sober...so of course, I'm hooked on it!

I'm on the edge of my seat for Sombra every night, I'm hooked on The Walking Dead, I didn't realize Broadchurch had started up again and was all excited when there was an episode on the DVR...I think they all feed my brain's need for a good scare the way "scary movies" used to. Monsters don't scare me. Thinking about what plain 'ol human beings are capable of scares me. And keeps me coming back for more.

Eli, thank you for great, great recap! Always a pleasure not only to read but also be given something new to think about.

I thought the scenes of Aldonza and Chris kissing *were* the scenes of them falling in love. In TV short-hand.

Also, I think Sev has it figured if Aldonza tells anyone about rape, he (and Cande) will claim that Aldonza seduced him. Putting that in Chris' ear would surely turn Chris off Aldonza forever.

J in Oregon

Can someone please explain what telenovela was "TSTSNBN"?

I can't figure out the title from the abbreviation used by many of you posters.

Thanks.

It's not the title, Gobluefan. It's "The Show that Shall Not Be Named" because it was so terrible. La Gata.

I realize it's confusing to people who weren't around when we named it that. We're not trying to be secretive, it just really was that bad.

Also, if you say the actual title three times out loud really bad art appears on your walls and an empty-eyed puppet repeatedly says "mi amor" while kicking you in the shins. Te lo juro.

Oops! I always forget to thank the recapper! Thanks Eli, for the recap and the laughs!

J in Oregon - those were the love scenes, but it disappoints me that a TN this good didn't give us some scenes that give credence to el gran amor that every TN main couple claims. Sigh, I guess I should be used to that by now though :(

Diva: I'm slow today: Did you just say you tried to sell your friend for $5?! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Please tell me you are still friends and still laugh at that to this day!!!

You are so right about the female sexual assault though, in TNs and IRL. Thankfully in TNs, half the time there's no actual sex, just a guy passed out in the bed and a bunch of lies from the lady, but you're right, I don't think I've ever seen a single person give that kind of behavior the same treatment that the male version gets. I guess the main difference is the use of force? It'd be interesting to see a novela where a female was put in the traditional male position of being pass out drunk and made to think she'd done something when she hadn't. I've never seen that before.

Also, if you say the actual title three times out loud really bad art appears on your walls and an empty-eyed puppet repeatedly says "mi amor" while kicking you in the shins. Te lo juro.

LOL, oh Lord. If she turns into Dumpster Rita, I really will be terrified!

Eli, thank you for another super recap, and...I like Cheetos, but...not that much.

"I think Abelardo (aka Mexican Big Bird) and Mari are Uriel the banker's kids."

How did you even catch their names? What's your secret? It took me a couple episodes to pick up "Lola"!

:-)

Yes! And add me to the QTH when Sev said something about Ray taking his lands.

Mystery! Intrigue! Natural Beauty! NO DUMPS!

susanlynn-and let us not forget that the short, full skirt seemed WELL-STARCHED and surely could have stood on it's own.

DAMN! 92 comments and I am just getting started. I feel like I'm the last guy in town.

I am feeling so sorry for the hurt that Roberta is feeling but DAMN (again) she's good even when she's drunk.

And DAMN (3rd time) that bastard that stole Roberts money last night.

DAMN Stalker Valeria waiting to jump Crises bones when he came in.
A pregnant Valeria?

The last DAMN for now goes to the one armed rat bastard from hell.

I can save one for Cande tomorrow can't I? I'm sure that she will earn one tonight.

Why did Cris go to Spain? Is he living off of daddy, he does not have a job. Is that an apartment?
Too big for a hotel room---I mean
it's no motel 6 or even Holiday Inn for that matter.

I'm disappointed in him. I thought that Cris was sooooo in love with Aldonza? it didn't take him long to forget the sweet Donza
and hop in bed with Val. Any comments? Now if Val gets pregnant, she as well as Cande bi**h will get just what they want.

How long will Cris be in Spain? Will he attend the same school as Aldonza?

I know nothing about avatars.
the gringo

hellashelle, we're not anymore. Things happened. I look for her occasionally on Facebook and Google her name. Even though it's an unusual name, I've never found her.

The closest we ever saw was Esme in LG getting drugged and Augie's hirelings took pictures, but not only was there no sexual assault, everybody realized it was fake. And at least one of those guys was willing to actually take advantage of her, but I don't remember why he didn't. It's more typical for a creep to drug a woman, rape her, and then tell her it was consensual. I've never seen them just spend the night chastely after taking a few suggestive photos and then lie about something happening.

Sara, don't look at me! I only caught the banker part...Eli got the names. And thank you for that BTW, because I have the hardest time with names!

Hey, maybe that skirt wasn't a skirt! Maybe it was one of those glass fruit bowls? Better than starch...never washes out!

Lol, gringo..."damn" wasn't the word I kept saying while I watched, but I was sure saying something.

Cristobal basically lives in Spain while he goes to school and only comes home for "holidays." So it looks like that's his apartment.

I don't think he's going to hop into bed with Val. I think he's going to get drunk and pass out. She suckered him with that whole "We're just friends, I don't have feelings for you" bullcrap. And if she does get pregnant, my money's on it being the banker's spiky-hair son who donated half the genetic material. Otherwise, why bother meeting that family or having him tell his sister that he "knows" Valeria?

Gringo..yes, rich boys wear scarves and get apartments in Espana while poor boys have to work on ranches for onearmed ratbastards. Where is the justice ?

Susanlynn, if only he'd hide a necklace of garlic under that scarf. Then he might be safe.

Kat...good idea. That Val is not playing. Maybe Cris will do a MacGyver and use that scarf to escape out the window.

Hi Gringo! I'm with Diva - I think this will be a classic drunken pass(out) to a fake night of passion. I hope there will be an interception on the pass by way of...anything, but since the ladies made a good point earlier about Cris not having any friends, there doesn't seem to be anyone to stand in the way of this classic nightmare.

Aldonza's still in Mexico and Cris is in Spain and seems to have no intention of returning for the time being, so minus my futile hope that they become online buddies, I don't think they'll be in contact for a while. It'll prob be just long enough for Val to take Cris on the guilt trip she and his mom have so thoughtfully planned for him.

"... guilt trip she and his mother have so thoughtfully planned for him."

Lol!

I would like to go on record now and say I am not looking forward to recapping the adventures of that skank Valeria.

Sure wouldn't mind one of those Midori cocktails.
