La Sombra del Pasado #27 3/25/15 Things Get a Little Rocky
I will jump right in at the new stuff.
Cristobal (Cris) isn't convinced that Aldonza is the home-wrecker Valeria (Val) is making her out to be. And Val is going to have to forgive him, but he didn't come to fight about Aldonza and her questionable morals. He excuses himself and leaves.
Humberto (Hum) makes the rounds at local banks. At Banco de Progreso he is informed that his loan application was turned down because of his credit history. Humberto is confused. He doesn't owe anything that he isn't paying in due time and proper form (en tiempo y forma. With mad props to Wordreference forums.) He asks if Severiano (Sev) had anything to do with the rejection and the banker looks like he just pooped his pants a little. Poopy Banker doesn't know what Hum is talking about.
Val thinks Prudencia(Pru) ruins everything. There was no reason for Pru to make Val spill the beans about Aldonza and Hum. Pru thinks Cris needed to know. Val vehemently disagrees. It doesn't do well for her to talk bad about Aldonza because she comes off looking like a jealous shrew. Pru reminds her that Candelaria (Cande) could back up the story. Val thinks it would have been better for Cande to tell Cris and for her to confirm it. Val tells her mother she can't seem to see things clearly. Didn't she see how Cris reacted? Cris only defended Aldonza. For Pru the only important thing is that Aldonza is trying to take her man and she will take care of her. Val wonders how Pru will manage to do to the daughter what no one seemed to do with the mother. Val thinks Aldonza is even worse than her mother. Pru reminds Val that a woman is capable of anything when it comes to fighting for a man.
Cris goes to see Hum. Cris wants to know the truth behind Pru and Val's story. Hum already knows why he's there. He denies their version of events, but it bothers Hum that Cris is so bothered by it. It shouldn't matter. Cris just doesn't anyone judging Aldonza based on her mother's behavior. Hum assures Cris that what little he knows of Aldonza, she is nothing like her mother, who by the way wasn't a horrible person either. Hum goes on to explain that he thinks Roberta was a victim. (I may be in the minority, but I hope that Hum will end up in Purgatory and not Hell. He's done bad. Real bad. But he seems to be trying to fix the mess he made of things.) Cris wonders aloud who Roberta could have been a victim of. Hum tells him she was a victim of circumstances. Suffice to say, Aldonza is not what people want to make her out to be. She is a decent girl.
Uriel the Banker (Uriel) is furious about Abelardo. Irma is worried about her son. He hasn't been home. Uriel assures her that as soon as he's hungry or needs money he'll come back home. Irma wants to go look for him, but Uriel tells her she can't go dragging him back home by his ear like a 10-year-old. She agrees and moves on the the next problem child on the agenda: Mari. She lets Uriel know about the jealous fit she threw and how she quit the store. Uriel figures out immediately that it's emotional blackmail. Irma wisely decides not to give into it. They gave into all of Abelardo's whims and look where it got them!
Dominga still won't let Lola visit Emmanuel. Lola is pretty mad that Dominga let Mari visit, but not her. Dominga reminds Lola she doesn't even have permission to have a boyfriend and Lola fires back with the fact that she's over 20...what 20-something needs permission to have a boyfriend? Then Dom and Melesio (Mel) have an unimportant conversation. He promises to talk to Emmanuel.
Hum and Cande run into each other in the kitchen and he thanks her for letting Emmanuel stay in the big house. She just tells him to have Emmanuel out first thing in the morning.
Later that night, Lola sneaks up to Emmanuel's room. (Is this the living room from Teresa?) She wants to give him some kisses and take back the chocolates that Mari gave him. She's sure it's full of toloache (which a half-assed google image search revealed is a flower called Devil's trumpet [latin: Datura ioxia]and is used to make people fall in love. Mad props to davesgarden.com.) They wrestle over the chocolate while Emmanuel insists they need to talk. A sound at the door sends Lola scrambling under the bed and Emmanuel scrambling to fake being asleep. Hum comes in and looks at Emmanuel and then goes to an adjoining room. Lola scurries away but left one slipper.
The next morning, Irma is still worried about the MIA Abelardo (Lardo.) Uriel is sure he just stayed with a friend and is fine. Irma starts to second guess her decision. Maybe they are too hard on Lardo. Uriel thinks that if having high expectations of he son is "being too hard" then so be it. Irma accuses him of believing Cris over their own child. Uriel assures her that's not the case and suggests she call Lardo's friends to see if he spent the night with them.
Emmanuel is getting ready to leave. Hum and Emmanuel thank Cris.
Irma arrives at the store and tells Lola that Lardo didn't come home. Lola asks why they never got him a cell phone and Irma explains he lost several and gambled more away (apostado.) Lola takes the opportunity to tell Irma that she wants to quit working at the store. Lola doesn't want to be the reason Irma and Mari are fighting. Irma does not accept her resignation. Mari is the one that needs to get a grip.
Pru stops Aldonza in the street. She very loudly and publicly calls her a slut and tells her how women like her should be treated. She launches a rock and it hits Aldonza in the head.
Hum and Emmanuel return home and Val is suspiciously nice. After Emmanuel leaves, Val sneers at her father and they start arguing. Pru left and Val doesn't know where...and she was pretty mad. Hum reminds Val that Pru's anger is Val's fault. Val totally denies it. All she did was tell her mother what she saw. Hum amends her statement. Val saw what she wanted to see and she had no right to paint Aldonza or himself in such a bad light. Val rolls her eyes and I just want to slap the fire out of her.
Meanwhile in the town square, Pru yells at Aldonza that the rock should remind her not to mess with married men. She calls Aldonza a casquivana (a word I've had before...slut. And here's why TNs can enrich your vocabulary in not so useful ways.) Pru warns her that next time she'll stone Aldonza just like they did Maria Magdalena (and a half-assed google search results in a slew of articles about who Mary Magdalene really was and the fact that it never says in the bible that they stoned her...) So the whole town has witnessed this and poor Aldonza seems very ashamed as she walks away, but I hope it's more pain than shame. My heart just breaks for this girl.
It really bothers Hum that Val would think so little of him. Val wants to know why he met Aldonza at that restaurant. Hum asks her that if he were doing something wrong, why would he be seen with Aldonza in such a public place. This doesn't convince Val. She thinks that some men are such pigs they are pretty public about their affairs. Besides, he doesn't need to explain himself to her, but rather to Pru.
Aldonza is home and Adelina tends the wound. Aldonza explains that Pru thinks she's running around with Hum. Adelina is gobsmacked. Aldonza tells her that everyone thinks she's like her mom.
Mel and Sev watch Mudo train a horse. If Emmanuel was around the horse would have been trained in a matter of hours. He's a horse whisperer. Cris says something similar when he joins the conversation. Cris then tells Sev he fired Lardo. Sev is annoyed and reminds Cris that he doesn't want him making decisions like that. Cris informs him that if Lardo comes back, he's leaving. This changes Sev's tune. He tells Cris that since the decision is made, he will support his son in it. He then reminds Cris he'll support him in anything (which had a real "hint hint wink wink nudge nudge" feel to it.)
Irma still hasn't been able to locate Lardo. She has to find him. Uriel offers to go with him, but as they open the door in comes a battered Lardo. You guessed it, folks...he accuses Cris. (Did I miss something?)
Adelina continues to tend to Aldonza. She wants her to go to a doctor, but Aldonza does not want to see Dr. Hum. Adelina really wishes Aldonza had told her about the business meeting with Hum. She hopes this incident will convince Aldonza not to continue her crazy plan to rent the old Alcocer place. Au contraire! This kind of incident just cements her resolve! Adelina can't believe it! Aldonza doesn't want people talking bad about her and she's doing things that will just get the tongues wagging. Aldonza doesn't care what people say. Adelina is worried about what people will DO. Aldonza is not giving up. She has plans and she's not turning back! She leaves to go see Lola.
Pru tells Cande about the public stoning. Aldonza deserved it. Oy vey. Prud claims God is great for giving her the strength to do what she did. Cande thinks Hum's infidelity is probably the force behind the pedrazo (piedra+the suffix -azo ...so a blow with a stone. See also: Nerfazo. A half-assed google search did not yield the origins of nerfazo. It's somewhere in the depths of commentary somewhere around El Talisman and Abismo de Pasion...maybe earlier. But I digress. Apologies to all.) Cande thinks it was pretty risky to even acknowldege the mozcorra (Heeey! A new word for slut! My slut vocabulary is really getting big! Etymology: Basque...again I digress...) Pru starts to cry. Why did Aldonza have to return to Santa Lucia???? Pru worries about the wedding. She's convinced that Hum refused to give over El Santuario at the request of Aldonza. Cande is sure nothing will stop the wedding. Pru thinks things with Val and Cris have not been going well since they returned from Spain. Cande and Pru need to be alert. If the wedding is canceled, that road open for Aldonza to be with Cris and Hum. 'Cause hos be like that. Pru begins to sob loudly.
Lola is pissed!! She wants to confront Pru and can't believe that crap about Aldonza and the doc. Aldonza asks her not to tell anyone about it...not even her grandparents. Aldonza wants her business to stay her business. Lola promises to keep it to herself, but tells Aldonza what a huge sacrifice it is considering how much she likes gossip. Lola at least has the news about the palazo (palo+ the suffix -azo...palo is a stick.) Lola tells Aldonza about Emmanuel's beating. Aldonza reminds Lola that Lardo was the louse that tried to accost her all those years ago.
Dominga visits Padre J. She's a little worried about that conversation he had with Lola. Dominga swears that Lola is the daughter of her son Santiago who died in an accident. Padre J wants to know what the mother's name was and Dominga wants him to just drop it. Her son's wife was not a good mother. Some women just shouldn't be mothers. Dominga wants Padre J to know that even though she and Mel are her grandparents, they love Lola as if she were their daughter and they would give their lives to keep someone from hurting her. Padre J tells her they did a good job in raising her. He will be there waiting when she needs to do her next confession.
Val makes nice with Emmanuel. She wants to know if he and Lardo were fighting about her. Ah, Emmanuel understands the kindness now. All she's worried about is if her name got dragged through the mud. Emmanuel informs her that no, she was not mentioned. She is huffy for being called out on her BS.
The doctor informs Irma, Uriel and Mari that Lardo is not seriously injured, but they should report the attack. Irma agrees. No one can abuse her children. Uriel advises caution. He doesn't want to make an enemy out of Sev. Irma wants justice. As soon as they find out who did this they need to report him!
Cande has Cris's room fumigated after Emmanuel's stay. Cris tries to defend Emmanuel and Cande changes the subject to that of Hum and Aldonza. Cris (like Viewerville) wonders why his mom keeps talking to him about Aldonza. How is he supposed to forget her? She wants Aldonza out of his life. Cris assures him the wedding will take place and afterwards he and Val will leave Santa Lucia. Cande would have liked him to stay in Santa Lucia, but given the circumstances, she's fine with him leaving. On her way out, the servant Toña informs her that "una persona" is there to see Sev.
Aldonza runs into Dominga in town. The important part is Dom sees the locket and then asks about the escapulario she gave her when she was a baby. Dominga hopes she wears it. She feels Aldonza will need its protection from envious people like those that gave her that chichón (bump/lump.)
Padre reports that Dominga didn't give him any useful information. He's pretty sure Lola is not the lost child, but there is definitely something mysterious about Lola's mother. Adelina is distracted. She tells Padre J that Aldonza had some trouble with Pru...right there in front of the parsonage!
Sev arrives home and Toña tells him about la persona that is there to see him. La persona is waiting in the living room with Candelaria.
La persona is none other than Simoneta Saavedra!
Stay tuned for tomorrow's exciting episode!!!

"Things that make you go Hmmm???" Indeed!
J in Oreogon
Even after Gael came around to Paloma I never felt like he was completely on board.
I guess it's still early and I'm sure Alex Sirvent will convince me. (IMO the only thing Mark Tacher has ever played well is A-hole from Q Pobs.)
I am really enjoying Michelle Renauld in this.
Pru is such a shrew, but she is funny, and I loved her outfits this episode and continue to love her haircut. If you're going to be a crazy, drunk shrew, you might as well look good doing it.
Lola's bad mom is mentioned, and Simoneta shows up. Hmmmm...
Sever looked like he pooped his pants a little when he saw his wife and his mistress sitting together.
As for Lardo's claims that Cris beat him up, he's an idiot if he doesn't realize Sever won't let his son be accused of a crime, least of all one he didn't commit. He better watch his back.
"mozcorra (Heeey! A new word for slut! My slut vocabulary is really getting big! Etymology: Basque...again I digress...)" Crazy, ain't it, matters not where my travels have taken me, even when I visit family in Asia, I always learn another innovative way to bend any word in any language into a derogatory indictment of a woman.
Val - Princess Eyeroll
Aldonza - you need to learn to duck
Abelardo - will Val bring me chocolate for my oweee
Dominga - well, her mother was like, uh, Roberta
Cande - what, Aldonza, why would I mention Aldonza, Aldonza who, I vaguely remember an Aldonza, but no that couldn't be the Aldonza you reference
Cris - "We gotta get out of this place" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCPjnuwdKkw
Emmanuel - zip it Val, your daddy didn't raise no dummy
Pru - god directed that rock, I was drunk off my ass
The embedded vocabulary was so superb, (toloache was my favorite), I am cutting and pasting your recap for future reference.
Your summary was detailed and delicious.
Your spot on astute observations were amazing: "(I may be in the minority, but I hope that Hum will end up in Purgatory and not Hell. He's done bad. Real bad. But he seems to be trying to fix the mess he made of things)" mirrored my feelings. "(Is this the living room from Teresa?)" (wow - I'm impressed) and I totally agree with your "My heart just breaks for this girl".
tofie, 'Pru - god directed that rock, I was drunk off my ass" had me laughing out loud.
Vivi, I am delighted Sev's mistress has come a calling. Wonder what pretense she will make up? Sev looked close to having that vein in his neck throb. Hopefully that will happen tonight!
So now, in addition to rape, physical assault and other outrageous atrocities, we need to add stoning to Aldonza’s long list of abuse. Basta!
I am somewhat relieved Cris still has some semblance of reason and refuses to believe the lies about Aldonza. I am not comforted sufficiently however as he seems resolved to continue with the wedding.
Val is not without intelligence. She knows her marriage is doomed before it begins. All she and her mother have done is fan the flames so that between Cande and his intended, Aldonza is never out of thought or spoken word. Val is doing everything to work against her interests.
The small smile playing on Cande's lips after hearing of the stoning made me ill. I've said all along and I feel more strongly with each passing episode that Cande is a monster.
What do Hum and Aldonza have in commen? Neither can catch a break. Let's hope that changes. And quickly.
Excellent Sara, just excellent.
Diana
I am dying to know why after all these years she's coming to Santa Lucía. Straight to Sev's house no less!
And like you I like that Cris doesn't let the gossip and La Sombra de Roberta influence his opinion of Aldonza, but he stubbornly insisting on going through with the wedding. QTH?
Cris is defending Aldonza because he's a decent guy who doesn't like for people to be unjustly trashed BUT, he's not defending her because he loves her.
He doesn't know that yet.
He has to come to realize that he loves her and that there's a chance that she will return his love before he could think of standing up to Cande and her back up harpies, Val and Pru.
I hope they're not playing with us, cause looks like tonight there's going to be some near kisses!
What idiots Pru and Val are and Cande IS a monster: she's just simmering. I think we're going to see her develop into a rolling boil!
Thanks for giving our Diva a break and giving us this MAHvelous recap!
Vivi - yes to everything you just said! Dominga has always spoken of Roberta with sympathy, so this just keeps the pin pointed at Emmanuel to be Roberta's child. Also, LOL "Pru the shrew"! She does look fabulous in this TN though. I really love her look.
Tofie - today's list actually made me snort my tea!
Sara and Diana - yes, I love that Cris doesn't judge a book by its mother. I gotta say, you guys are right: the maturity of these two characters thus far really makes up for them not being obsessed with each other in a "Mi amor is so great for you, mi amor. I love loving your love for my love, my love!"
PS: Is Lola the new Cinderella?
Cande IS a monster, but like someone said a few days ago, she is like an edentulous pit bull.
I think anyone other than Aldonza would have been reduced to tears by now with all the unwarranted abuse. I really like this character.
I guess I missed something in the payments that Sev was giving Hum. I thought at first it was kind of a stipend for keeping quiet about Sev murdering el Padre. Later I did get the sense that it was to buy the other property.
Lardo is about as dumbe as you can get. He lies in such a way that can be disproved (does Cris have any marks or bruises on him?) and he lies about the beloved son of a powerful and vicious man. He must have hired his buddy to beat him up.
Pru is so convinced of Hum's infidelity, probably because he could currently care less about her boozing sloppy presence, and also because of her daughter's assurance that it is true.
So, thank you Sara both for jumping in to cover for Diva, and for your wonderfully complete and entertaining recap.
David
Pru the Shrew
A rock, she threw.
Will an anvil come back?
If only we knew...
She grinds the rumor mill
Into Gossip Stew.
She tossed in Aldonza.
The patio cries "Boo!"
But Aldonza's got spice
And dignitiy too.
She'll show Pru what's what
Down in Old Santa Lu!
Was anyone else a little taken aback by Aldonza's exit from The Stoning? I wanted her to have an Adelina moment where she told the paranoid wife to get a grip. Instead, she didn't say anything, she didn't even give Pru a wordless put down with her eyes. I don't think that's going to help her reputation. But maybe in the long run...? What do you guys think?
I think Aldonza was just shocked AND the g.d. rock must've hurt, too. She was looking at her as if she couldn't believe it had actually happened. Unfortunantely she now sees how low people will stoop, she'll be ready for the next attempted assault.
I wonder what she's planning?
Why didn't Aldonza head straight to the popo instead of stumble stepping home? It happened in front of god and everybody. If she's going for the martyr look nobody is paying attention. Girl needs riot gear.
Oh! And I am completely with you on the stoning scene. I kept waiting for her to get defiant or something. I can't even describe what I felt or what I think Aldonza was feeling. It wasn't defeat, but...ugh! Someone help!
Then I remember that in Novelaland crimes are rarely reported.
I think Aldonza had confirmed for her any lingering doubts about the "quality" of the people of Santa Lucia and concluded she had to deal with these idiots with something other than sense, logic and "the law." Remember, Roberta tried that when she found Sev's horse's special shoe in her roasted melon patch.
Hellashelle - love your poem!
Tofie - love your list!
-azo I think it was TdA where the Patio started the Lanza Nerfazos, after some character suffered un escopetazo. Seems like NovelaMaven was on the Patio with us that that time, too, and maybe June & Anita.
So, I wonder how Sabadazo translates on Looneyvision's Saturday programming?
IMO the only thing Mark Tacher has ever played well was Emiliano/Francisco in La Hija del Mariachi. Best role he has had and interpreted, IMO.
I think the writers are messing with our heads and tossing a lot of red herrings in our path. I did not watch El Manantial and do NOT want to know what happened, (I am avoiding its Wikipedia page), so it is lots of fun to speculate!
Anyhooo... I think I am the only person that has NOT seen La hija del mariachi. I keep hoping it gets replayed somewhere.
I think the stoning totally caught Aldonza off guard. I think she was so stunned and likely so embarrassed, she just wanted to have the ground swallow her whole.
It's one thing to be accosted by vicious words but to be physically attacked in broad daylight. That was truly horrifying. As Sara commented earlier, our hearts went out to her.
Diana
Funniest scene--Cande and Pru. It was everything there for Cande at times to keep a straight face. I want to see the out-takes from that scene.
In all seriousness though, Pru is loosing her grip and again with the pill popping and alcohol. Something not so good is going to come from that and it will be worse than that stone-throwing.
This whole condemning the child for the parent's "sins" is stupid enough, but launching that rock was uncalled for. And let me add, I get sooooo tired if the incorrect linkage that was left to propagate by the church for hundreds of years that the prostitute stoned in the bible was Mary Magdalene, and people who say the read it thoroughly buy into it too. Thanks for pointing out Sara...they are NOT the same person. Historical note: it was "convenient" at the time to allow the misconception to continue as it directly tied to quashing a movement that supported women into positions in the early church and that Mary Magdalene herself was one of the chosen apostles ( Gospel of Mary, and other early writings not included in the final Bible version supported her position.) Very recently, I believe is was 2012 or 13, Rome quietly wrote a dictum admitting the connection was wrong, somewhat fessing up to their part in allowing the misconception and Mary M. was not the woman stoned. Ok, lesson over.
So when would have Chris been able to beat Lardo up if he was at the ranch all day and home all night? Creep needs to go away. Can't even keep a cell phone?
Yeah--I think my theory with Lola and Sev's mistress may turn out to be true. I want Dominga to see this woman and then we'll maybe know for sure?
Daisynjay
Meant to say to doris that I haven't seen El Manantial either and I don't want to know anything about it BUT I would love to know how Michelle Renauld is comparing to Adela Noriega.
Sooooo..looks like Simoneta is Lola's long lost mama.
I cannot believe Pru hit AL in the head with a stone and yelled all those terrible things at her. Pru has crossed the line from being a frivolous drunk to being a cruel person.
I loved Candy's sneer and wide eyed stare as she listened to boozy, weepy, snotty Pru's diatribe against AL. What a pair. They both need jobs or hobbies. Pru and Candy should follow the yellow brick road because Candy needs a heart and Prubdefinitely needs a brain...and AA.
As for Lardo's real assailant, I am sure that there are any number of people in that town ready to get in line to give him a beat down.
As we've seen, Lardo is an ass to everyone. But for whatever reason he has some friends. I can just imagine Lardo asking a bud to beat him up so he can accuse Cris. The bud is more than willing to do some damage.
Friend - Beat you up for a few pesos? Suuure pal.... Anything you need.
Lardo - wow. You didn't have to beat me that badly.
God I hope it's simple to disprove Lardo. I know it seems that way (as David pointed out, Cris won't have bruises. But all that's going to mean is that Cris, the town Golden Boy, got some of his friends or workers to beat Lardo up or hold Lardo down while he beat him up.
I don't know how Aldonza can stand that town. That much gossip and scrutiny? Being expected to prove what you didn't do? Infamy in the Pueblo: The Alcocer Girls - Chapter 2: Aldonza.
and you did it in WOW fashion.
Right Sara---If anyone is forging
his own anvil it's Lardo. Sever's
has already been forged.
Tofie---LOL No, Lardo won't be getting any chocolates.
LOL again---God directed that rock
I was drunk.
I am over the moon with Aldonza. What character, what a woman. Aldonza is one in a million a kind of person that is seldom seen
in society today. A good person, beautiful and with a mountain of resolve. She knows what she's doing and where she's going. How could you not stand up and cheer for Aldonza?
Loved the poem HellaShelle. I'm going to nominate it for the novela Hall of Fame archives.
Susanlynn---Cande needs a heart Pru needs a brain and AA.
You guys are too good for me. I had better quit while I'm still ok
6 1/2 hours to go for must see TV.
the gringo
I don't think that Lola is Sever's child. I believe that she is indeed Dominga and Mel's grandchild by their son. I just think they've been lying about her mama and what happened to her, and I suspect that mama is Simoneta because the writers keep giving us cues that she's connected to Lola.
OT- will anyone be tuning in to see Amores con trampa? I really want to check it out. Unfortunately I will have to do most of my watching on Hulu.
The only days that slot is free for me are Monday and Friday. I record a show on Azteca at that time and it seems all my husband's shows come on at 7...so I won't be able to record Avenida Brasil either. I'm on the fence about AvB because I'm so distracted by dubbing.
Oddly, Univision doesn't have an agreement with my cable company so I can't use their app. Which sucks when I travel.
I gotta say, I almost feel bad for saying Lardo would get stabbed in an alley and the world would shrug. I totally forgot that his family would care and that he'd use it to frame Cris. Hopefully that only lasts a hot second.
I am totally on board with the Simoneta theory that does not include Sev and I'm interested to see it play out.
As much as I've come to appreciate the slow build and the attention paid to crafting Cris and Donnie's individual personalities, I also got excited when seeing the avances for tonight! What can I say: I love love :)
Also, I've always had the impression that Santiago had left Santa Lu and everything happened far away. So it's still possible Simoneta has never been there.
"Poopy Banker" is an apt description. I hope he's not a poker player!
I agree, I don't need to see Humberto go down in flames. I appreciated that he stood up for Roberta.
Lola sneaking in to Emmanuel's room was sort of funny and sort of creepy. And I'm remembering toloache from DQTQTQ and how it can really screw up people's intestinal systems. I have to give mad props to the Lola actress for how smoothly she scooted herself under the bed. It was a total Cirque de Soleil moment.
Hooooolyyyyy crap! A rock?! What grown person does that?! I was not expecting that.
Humberto made a lot of good points in that conversation with Val and frankly, if she's going to insist on thinking that he's just so much of a brazen cheater that he would take his lover to lunch in a public place, then she can pay for her own damn wedding with whatever money she can earn at whatever job she can get with the truckload of half-finished degrees that he already paid for.
Accusing Cristobal of beating him up...why was I surprised he would stoop so low? I'm wondering if he just got beat up for being his usual charming self and decided to try to use that to his advantage, or if he asked some of his buddies to do it on purpose so he could accuse Cris. And I was feeling sorry for his parents this entire time, and then I wanted to shake Irma for going right back to believing his lies.
"My slut vocabulary is really getting big!" Dude! Totally! And here I thought we'd already heard them all on LG.
"He will be there waiting when she needs to do her next confession." Oh, that Padre J. He's just the kind of priest this town needs. "Uh huh, ok, well, I'm not saying that you just lied to my face, but whenever you're ready to tell me the truth, I've got my purple stole at the ready." I agree with him that this points to Lola not being Sev and Roberta's child. Because Dominga never would have said that Roberta should never have been a mother.
"Cande has Cris's room fumigated after Emmanuel's stay." That was such a disgusting display from Candela that I don't know how Cris tolerates it, but I'm looking forward to the day when that stops. The two of them don't deserve to have such a nice kid.
Off to read the comments now!
Susanlynn-glad I won't be alone! I'll always be behind, but I won't be alone. Lol. I think this is a good role for Big Ed actually. Is anyone even covering it or will Caray take a pass on it?
Vivi, "If you're going to be a crazy, drunk shrew, you might as well look good doing it." Amen, and pass the floaty chiffon blouses!
tofie, "god directed that rock, I was drunk off my ass," perfect!
Diana, right there with you, wanting all the abuse of Aldonza to stop already!
Sara, the more he insists that nothing is going to stop the wedding, the more I cackle with glee.
Lila, I agree, Cris is defending Aldonza out of decency, not love...not yet....
hellashelle, I totally missed the slipper reference until tofie made that connection. I just thought he'd end up getting busted. I was surprised that Cande didn't say anything about it, so gracias, Nameless Maid, for keeping that quiet!
hellashelle, I love the poem!!!
Lila, I agree, she was probably shocked. At least, I'm hoping that Pru didn't throw hard enough to do any real damage. I'm not only looking forward to Cris' reaction, but I'm hoping Val screws up and says she deserved it in front of him. Come on, Cris! Get a clue!
susanlynn, good catch on the evil queen looking in the mirror!
Anon at 3:51, I also noticed it looks like he's likely to cheat on his wife with the blonde? I had enough of Africa Zavala's character enduring crap in La Malquerida. Pass!
tofie, well, if we dye Michelle's hair just a little darker....
And a big abrazo to everyone on the patio today! I miss y'all! Next week it's all patio, all the time!
Man, I'm afraid if the wedding doesn't happen they'll try to kill poor Aldonza!
I hope Cris is realizing how sick his family is when it comes to Aldonza and if he's going to have balls enough to embrace and almost kiss her, he'd better be ready to defend her with more than words as well!
-It gets called off early because Cris finally wakes up and smells the crazy.
