La Sombra del Pasado #47 4/22/15
- Simoneta visits Lola at the shop. Dominga shows up, too. Sim tries to introduce herself, but Dom refuses to shake her hand. Sim leaves and Dominga goes after her, almost knocking Aldonza down.
- The senior partner grills Silvia. Did she know Renato was in SL? She says she only thought he was helping a friend. Abelardo(Lardo) pipes up that Renato is filing lawsuits outside of the lawfirm. Senior partner instructs Silvia to get in touch with Renato and tell him to call them. Senior partner also wants her to get Lardo's contact info. Lardo apologizes for causing problems. Silvia calls Renato and tells him to call the senior partner. They are in deep caca. Lardo eavesdrops at the door.
- Dominga chases down Sim in the street. She wants to know what Sim wants with her granddaughter. Sim just wants to get to know her. Dominga asks Sim what will Lola think when she finds out her mother abandoned her. Sim doesn't think Dominga has a right to say anything. Dominga let Lola believe her mother was dead! Now Sim just wants to get to know her daughter.
- Lola thinks Dominga's behavior is proof that Lola wasn't making things up. Domnga busts in and asks why Lola is hanging out with Sim. Lola defends Sim. She doesn't understand why Dominga is getting her cross-body purse in a twist. Dom leaves and Lola wonders why her abuela is getting so upset. Aldonza thinks it's odd that Lola is friends with such an old woman (Really Aldonza?)
- Reanto calls the senior partner guy. The first thing he does is explains that the guy who came to see them is lying or at least telling half-truths. When the partner asks why, Renato says he will explain...but in person. The partner lists Renato's transgressions. He went AWOL, he took Patricio with him as if Pato was his employee, he's working on a case whose billable hours aren't for their office. He and the other partners are not pleased. Renato tells his boss he will return to the DF tomorrow. The boss hopes his explanation is good enough to placate the partners.
- Valeria(Val) visits Cande and tells her about Cris's apology and to bad-mouth Aldonza. They haven't reconciled yet, but Cris is at least realizing his error. Val is playing the role of good friend now. Cande thinks that's a great strategy. Val wants Cris to recognize that she's the only woman for him. Cande commends Val for rising above the break-up and humiliation. Val claims that a woman in love is capable of many things.
- Aldonza goes in to see Padre J. She asks why Sev was there. Padre tells her it's none of her beeswax. Aldonza thinks it is her business and mentions Sev's threat. Padre can't believe Sev dared to insult Aldonza. Aldonza explains that Sev did dare and is capable of anything to keep her away from Cristobal. Padre J claims that's why Sev came to see him...to keep Aldonza away from Cris. Padre also claims that Sev did not threaten him. Aldonza invites her uncle to dinner.
- Cande goes in to see Cris and makes some snide remark about being the legitimate wife of Severiano. Cris tells her to get over herself and that she and his father should have divorced a long time ago. Cande can't believe he's defending his father. He's not. Nor does he support what his dad is doing. He just thinks they should have divorced long ago so they could be happy. Val's phone call interrupts this lovely family scene. She wants to invite Cris to a movie. He tries to turn down the invite, but Cande pushes him to agree. They will meet at the movie theater.
- Renato and Padre arrive for dinner. Adelina has to send Camilo to town for olive oil. Aldonza asks him to pick up some ice, too. Sev skulks and takes note of the guardless house.
- A Mrs Lizárraga calls the Uriel the banker. She had gotten some money earlier, but the amount she requested was not the amount in the envelope. Uriel will look into it. Uriel asks Paty(?) if she got the right amount. She swears she did. The other banker dude counted it in front of her. Uriel is unhappy. Something about the envelope being sealed. He doesn't want stuff like this happening.
- Awkward dinner. Renato explains he has to go back to the DF the next day. Adelina asks Aldonza if she needs to go. Aldonza does. She needs to get her título (so I assume diploma? Title?) and make sure the apartment is for sale. Renato suggests they go together, but she declines. Padre has mass at 7. He excuses himself and leaves. On the road, he thinks about his conversation with Sev. He hits the breaks and they don't work. CRASH!! Cris is also on the road (on the way to the movies.) He pulls the Padre out of the truck and calls an ambulance. The truck goes BOOM!
- Val gets ready for her movie. She wants Cris to find her irresistible (not in those pants, honey.) Pru worries about Hum finding out about the date. Pru tells Val about the lawsuit that Aldonza filed. They b*tch about Hum and his dumbassery. They warned him not to rent to Aldonza. Pru worries that if the Mendozas cut ties with them, Val can kiss the wedding goodbye.
- Renato serves a duct tape labled booze from Italy. Aldonza proclaims it's strong but good. Adelina passes. She doesn't like to drink (she did take a sip after Renato left...and what a cute "wow that's strong" face!) After Renato's departure, Aldonza tells Adelina about Renato and Silvia...and confesses she was a little jealous.
- Dominga worries why Sim is still in SL. What will they do to keep Lola away from her. She also tells him to talk to Sim and get her to leave SL. Dom will talk to Cande...even Sev if she has to in order to find out where Sim is leaving.
- Pato and Renato discuss Lola. Pato thinks he can win Lola's affections.
- Mel talks to Lola about Sim and Lola's lie about Gansito. Lola says she was just trying to make E-man jealous. Didn't Mel ever do anything like that? (This is the second time they've dropped hints about Mel's romantic past. Something's up.)
- Val buys two tickets to the movies. Hee hee! She's gonna get stood up!
- Lardo calls Sev to give him an update (He looks like he's outside the offices of Santi Velasco of Amores con trampa fame.) Lardo noticed that Silvia seemed to have a special interest in Renatos. Sev tells Lardo to find out as much as he can about her.
- Aldonza thinks of Renato's declaration of love. Then she thinks about Cris's engagement party confession of love. Cris calls Aldonza. She takes forever to finally pick up. He tells her Padre J has been in an accident and is in a coma!

No way will the writers let Sever off two priests. That's some pretty bad karma with God.
(I can't wait to see her!!)
I definitely want to flesh out the conversations Sev had with Cande and the Padre.
It was a really talky episode.
Hum pushes back and says that over the years Pru has just gotten dumber.
Yes! Just what I suspected about Pru. Dumb broad! She couldn't happen to a more deserving man, Hum!
Ha Ha! Cris does two good deeds at once: saving Padre's life (one for Team Aldonza) and standing up the skank! Yaaay!
Ooooo Sev. The hounds of hell are sure going to rip you limb from limb!
See y'all in the morning! Thanks, Dear Sara!
Have a great time with your daughter.
David
"Val's phone call interrupts this lovely family scene"
Gosh darn-it, I hate that butthole Sev
I agree, no way does the Padre get offed. Too pivotal of a character yet. I do look forward to the Cande meltdown when she finds out. Wonder how much of Sev is shutting PJ on finding out about E-man and jealousy too knowing Cande is all about the Padre. Watching him skulk around the property, those far shots made him look like a little rat scurrying among the bushes. Perfect shot.
So Rico Suave(aka Lardo) is being put on the trail of another female. Lord help me, what does everyone see in this guy as a chick magnet. Hoping Silvia isn't taken in, but not sure where her ethics line will fall in trying to get Ren back. Such a tired ploy in TN's and hoping she looks at Lardo and hurls all over his shoes when he tries to get all over her.
Val's outfit firmly convincing that she is a total skank. I mean her mother is a walking fashion plate and Cande is always so elegant, and that girl can't put a decent outfit together. Going to love her getting stood up and betcha she walks right in while Cris is comforting Allie.
Do we think PJ being hurt breaks the ice again with Allie and Cris? Another Sev plan busted?
Note to folks: you don't send the security card for ice and olice oil. You just don't.
Daisynjay
Love that not only did Cris ruin Sever's attempt on Padre's life by saving him, but that it also caused him to stand Val up. Hee hee.
Adelina was cute trying to play matchmaker with Al and Renato. It's nice seeing her and Al having these lighter moments together. They haven't had much chance to do that lately.
Daisynjay- Sever didn't tell Lardo to seduce Silvia, just follow her and find out all about her. Lardo told Sev he's pretty sure Silvia has a thing for Ren, based on the way she was trying to cover for him. Renato is so fired. Good thing he's rich. And that job was getting in the way of his Aldonza obsession anyway.
Can't wait to see Uriel eat crow when he finds out HE was the one who made the mistake by leaving that envelope of that woman's cash out in front of his thieving son.
Do we think PJ being hurt breaks the ice again with Allie and Cris?
Yes Ma'am! And I'm glad! Y'all know I've been wailin' and moanin' about the 95% anguish; I guess they are going to throw us crumbs like this, reason for the kids to cling to each other and recharge that savage spark that was lit during the huerto fire. Yes!
.....Allllthought it may be short lived! No matter. Kinda reminds me of "Make Up, to Break Up" by the Stylistics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6ez8MeAhpw
And I hope Vale DOES come in as Cris his comforting her. Let the heffa see it and blow a gasket thus belying her whole "we're just friends" ploy!
Wonder how long Padre will be in a coma. I can't wait for the Cande meltdown either. I KNEW for some reason she was going to have another one and a very public one! Oh, that's going to be sweet!
Aldonza thinks it's odd that Lola is friends with such an old woman (Really Aldonza?)
Yeah, I found this a little weird too. I think Aldonza's mostly looking at the fact that Lola said her new friend is also friends with Sev and Cande. Her slight thumbs down would make more sense if she knew Lola's talking about Sev's lover.
After our wonderings about Emmanuel yesterday, I wonder how much of Adelina's "I don't drink" has to do with Roberta.
Once again, I really liked Pru and Hum's scene last night. It started off as a typical roll-your-eyes-at-Pru scene, but rapidly became very serious. Pru can be so oblivious to the way her comments dig at people in gneeral and Hum in particular, and he seems like the type to fire back 20% of the time, but when she's hit, it's clear that she's hurt. Guess she'll be seeking consolation in the arms of PapiChulo? I would love to see an evolution of her character that makes her rethink her attitude toward Emmanuel.
Sev and Cande.
Sev and Padre.
Pru and Hum.
I set those three paragraphs apart so you can find them easily.
Daisy and Lila, I'm hoping Cande's meltdown turns her against Sev. Er...more against.... And you're right--security is there for security! Not to run errands.
Vivi, the ridiculously sad thing is Uriel didn't even have the cash IN the envelope at the time. It was still sitting in a stack on his dask when Lardo was eyeing it. So he's trying to pin this on his employee, who sounds like she did everything right up to the point of handing it all to Uriel without it being in an envelope. He's the one who screwed up by leaving it sitting there AND not re-counting it himself before putting it in the envelope. I'm incensed on his employee's behalf!
HellaShelle, I think it's funny that Lola keeps pointing out that Vivi is friends with Sev and Cande--when has either of them treated her particularly well? I would think it would make her suspicious that a friend of those two would want to be friends with her.
My Crockpot Theory™ is that Mel's past love life has something to do with the Hard Candy House.
Renato's senior partners are probably more p.o.'d that he is off on a jaunt and not logging in billable hour$.
Reading through it a second time, I'm reminded how ridiculous Lardo's behavior at the law office was. He sounded like a mean girl on a teen show..."Ohhhhh, sorry! I wasn't trying to get anybody in trouble."
"Sev tells her to wake up and smell the sacramental wine. The priest is just using her." *snort* Oh, Sev. If only you knew! She wishes!
Dare I hope that when Renato gets back to town, he doesn't just bat his eyelashes and get his bosses to forgive him for no good reason, but that he's prepared to explain to them how taking on Aldonza's case is somehow going to be good for the firm? You know, him being such a brilliant young lawyer and all. And it being better to show us he's a brilliant lawyer instead of just telling us all the time.
Thanks for getting into that whole Sev/Padre combo. Major echo of the convo he had with Padre Sixto. Minus the whole missing baby angle.
I want to try some of that duct tape labeled booze. Anybody know what that was?
Awwwww, so gurbia's not slut? But, hey, we got peliforra! I don't know how Humberto has put up with Pru for this long.
Medusa-style?
I wonder if Cande will be around when the Aldonza hurls the accusation at Sev that he caused Padre's accident. (Sorry, but it's in the preview). If so, what impact will that have on her? She already (I think) hates Sev. Well, ok, that didn't happen yet, so 'nuff said!
Well, the threat to PJ and Aldonza DID happen. Sev had no idea it would end up with Cris standing Vale up and performing an act of true nobility for Team Alcocer -- oooops!
Diva - yes, part of me expected her to say "she's friends with your Cande". She's definitely playing up that fact about Sim, thinking it'll be a plus for Dominga.
On Cande, I'm just hoping that her meltdown revives Cris's "wth is going on?!" line of thinking.
Thanks for the edits Sara! Those added details about Sev and Cande's conversation make me wonder if Cande's offended by Sev's assumption that PJ is just trying to use her for information about Rob's baby. It's interesting that Sev hasn't mentioned anything about Cande's feelings for PJ. What does he really know about that relationship?
Oh, this is so wickedly delicious!
And idiot Uriel is SO responsible for that Alligator lady's money being stolen. He is so fast and loose with people's private information -- leaving computer screens in full view -- AND their cash. How the hell did he get to be Bank President?
Don't they have security cameras in the bank that could have caught Lardhead snatching the cash? Guess that's too easy!
Like Boris and Natasha and thank goodness for that! LOL
"expose Sev for the inmundicia(filth) that he is"
PJ - screw you and the horse you rode in on
Cris - roadside assistance
Renato - I'm not worried, trying to get laid is an excusable absence
Humberto - what the hell was I thinking when I married you, you weren't pregnant
Uriel - did you count your fingers and toes?
Severiano - brake break
Adelina - no thank you, alcohol makes your panties fall off
Val - gimme a large buttered popcorn, the milk duds, nachos with extra cheese, junior mints..and bring it to our seats
Now Aldonza will be in the waiting room with Cris all emotional and needing comfort. Perfect to get them back on the same page.
To Mel and Dominga: Lola isn't 10 years old. What do you think bad will happen if she finds out that her mother is still alive? Yes, she'll be mad at you for about a week, then she will calm down. She's too old to lose to her mother. She will still be your granddaughter.
Let's hope that when PJ comes around, he'll be able to talk and remember and tell them about his breaks being out.
Hey! What if he came back forgetting his vocation and faith and discovers a deep, wild, passion for some CAN_DAAAAAY!
Now THAT would be wickedly delicious!
;D
I like the idea that Prudencia is Humberto's punishment for his weakness and complicity with Sever. The deeper he gets in with Sever, the stupider and more annoying his wife gets.
omg, Doris...this is brilliant! Can we please have a Helicopter Cande? Her braids spin and she shoots lasers out of her eyes! Like those SkyDancer dolls from the nineties, only evil!
cathyx - agreed! If Mel and Dom explain what they did, and more importantly, WHY they did it and then tell Lola she's free to connect with her mom if and how she pleases, the reaction isn't going to be nearly as bad as them lying to her, then trying deperately to keep her from her mom for seemingly no reason. Ay! Que tonto!
I almost wondered if part of Dominga's freakout about Lola playing head games with Pato and Em, and being flirty, is her fear that she'll turn into a woman like Viv. I get the feeling she left their son and Lola for another man.
Sidenote, Dom's hatred for Sim/Viv that makes her sympathy toward and defense of Roberta very interesting. I wonder how she would've treated Rob post-Sim/Viv
doris: Amen on the billable hours. I totally cracked up over that since I work in the consulting business. All anyone cares about--get that time in and make it billable!! He convinces the partners there could be a future cash cow out of this and they will be promoting him.
Dominga made the biggest mistake last night--she should have played nice and shook Sim's hand and not let on to Lola this was someone she didn't want her to know. This is LOLA woman...the more you say don't, the more intrigued and stubborn she gets.
Daisynjay
PJ can't die, but right now he's in a coma and can't tell anyone his brakes failed. How many episodes have to pass before he wakes up (well, long enough for Cris and Aldie to be back on speaking terms, at least). The car was blown to smithereens so no one will be able to go back and check the brake line. Will anyone believe him? Sev gets away with another one.
If Renato keeps his job he IS a brilliant lawyer.
Vivi and Lila--Uriel the careless banker, will not accept the blame, nor his son's for the missing money. It will be someone else's fault, a fireable offense. He will have selective amnesia. Security cameras are everywhere inside banks, except in SL's Bank.
For a bank president to have no private office and conduct privileged business out in the open just means we are in a telenovela.
Daisynjay--Olice oil works--It's a contraction of what Camilo was sent to get. Again, sending your security guard on a domestic errand so he can't see a rat in black scurrying around just smacks of being in a telenovela.
...So are Candy Houses and cars tumbling over embakments and bursting into flames and the driver safely pulled out just before it explodes.
BTW, there seems to be no driveway in front of the Santuario house. Folks are always driving up onto the lawn. I would hate that if I've been tending the lawn (which I don't have to).
Why now, as Dominga wants to know, is she interested in reconnecting with her daughter. To me, it's obvious that at some point in our lives we are all curious to go back and visit something or someone that either made us happy or made us sad and wonder what happened. I think Sim/Viv reached this point in her life.
What makes it poignant is she IS trying to find out what kind of young lady Lola is without freaking her by revealing who she is. Dominga's attitude is what is going to push it beyond what Sim/Viv intended.
Ok, my point is--we don't know the whole story, do we? Dom & Mel's son was killed in an accident and they went and *got* baby Lola and took her home. Maybe they *took her* without permission? Sim/Viv is probably to blame, or partly to blame if she was with someone else at the time, or drunk. I think I remember Dom saying that baby Lola was in her other grandparents care. Who is to say that the other set of grandparents were any worse or any better than Dom & Mel at taking care of raising a baby. They DID take her away from her mother.
Would I feel the same if it had been their daughter that died and the baby was left with a questionable father and his parents to raise? Don't know. I might be showing some bias if I said I thought the baby should be with the maternal grandparents over the paternal grandparents.
Ok, it's just a tn, it's just a tn. Dom & Mel raised Lola. It's done. They haven't let her mature naturally, they've sheltered her, kept her in the kitchen until recently and now are upset by her growing independence. They *have* to begin to trust her--Mel is trying to, Dom isn't.
Dom & Mel did what they thought was best. It's easier for a child to understand and live with both parents dying in an accident--and simpler for the grandparents.
Just like over on QA, the "disappearance" of a parent was more easily explained to a child whose father died almost at the same time, that the mother died and was buried in the same grave. The truth, when it finally came out was difficult, but in the end the adult "child" understood. Lola is about 10 years younger and less mature than Amaya, but it's about time Dom & Mel come clean.
Last word, promise: They should have told her BEFORE Sim/Viv ever showed up in SL.
I also like the thoughts on Dom and Mel. Though I like those two, they should have heeded Padre's advice and just told Lola period. This is going to build to a point where when it comes out, all Lola is going to hear is "that's your mother" and she isn't going to listen to any excuses or reasoning.
I just wonder what Sev's reaction is going to be when he finds out? Does Sim dare tell him? And the more cosy Sim and Lola get, what are the odds Lola will see Sev and Sim together? Inquiring minds want to know....
Daisynjay
Oh now that's interesting. I was operating under the assumption that Sim/Viv is just waiting to spill the beans. I hadn't actually thought that maybe she just wants to know about her daughter and might have been content with only that were in not for Dom's insistence that she leave town. Or at least, not as soon or as harshly as it seems it might be.
And you're absolutely right - we've been introduced to Sim/Viv as a "bad guy" because she's literally in bed with Sev, but who's to say she had a great reason for leaving Santiago and Lola? For all we know, she was a raging alcoholic that left to clean up her act. Or Santiago was a jealous, insane husband and she left to escape his abuse, but didn't have Lola with her at the time. You're right; I shouldn't judge. Thanks for the great analysis Anita!
Or Santiago was a jealous, insane husband and she left to escape his abuse
Looking at how Dom and Mel are acting, this may not be far fetched at all!
