La Sombra del Pasado, 04-21-2015, Capitulo 46, Aldie's stepped in it, but everyone's shoes are covered OR Sh*t hits the fan and all the good guys are splattered

Recap courtesy of HellaShelle!

Hey guys. I’m a little scattered this week, so I apologize if I forgot anything.

Re-re-cap-cap: Lola runs off, Eman calls after her, Pato tells him to back off. Sim/Viv runs into Lola, offers some generic comfort and invites her to dinner. Hum tells Sev he’s back on Team Sevil.

New Stuff: Hum tells Sev that PJ is on the Case of the Missing Love Child which worries Hum because he actually has an actual conscience that actually bothers him sometimes. Sev, in addition to an arm and heart, is missing that too, so he’s not worried; PJ can’t prove anything.

Pato and Eman are still yelling in the street. Eman’s telling him this is none of his business and Pato’s telling E to leave his girlfriend the hell alone. He calls Lola up to make sure she’s ok. Lola explains and apologizes for leaving the total stranger in a strange city with her very strong and angry ex. Lola explains what’s up to Sim/Viv, admitting that she bears some fault in the situation and revealing that her grandparents are strict but loving and her parents died in an car accident. Sim/Viv reveals that she “lost” a child long ago.

Dom’s Grammy-sense is tingling because Lola’s not home yet. Mel says maybe she met up with E. Dom’s doesn’t like that option. If they broke up, they have nothing to talk about. If they made up, who knows what they’re doing out so late! Mel’s exasperated; he can’t win! She apologizes for being a little hysterical. Mel says they have to stop treating Lola like a child and believe in her. Dom admits she’s really stressing the Sim/Viv situation. Mel thinks Sim/Viv has left town and sits Dom down to eat, serving her some dinner himself. These two might be my favorite couple on this show.

Eman is drowning his sorrows in tequila. He would like not just a shot, but the whole bottle. He gets a little snippy when the bartender raises an eyebrow about it, but they’re buds and the bartender joins him in his first shot. I only just now remember that Roberta had…um…alcoholic tendencies.

Lola’s home and getting a verbal pat down from her grandparents. What was she doing? Where? Who with? Lola tells the truth: that Eman came looking for her, insisting he loves her, but she kicked him to the curb and then she had dinner with a friend they don’t know. Dom’s taken aback because she and Mel know all of Lola’s friends, but she’s calmer than she was. Lola’s miffed at the interrogation and takes herself off to bed.

Hum and Sev wrap up their plotting session. Tweedledum leaves and TweedleStickUpHerA** comes in demanding to know what’s up. Sev’s surprised she’s still talking to him. Cande knows how to separate business (and Cris stuff) from their personal war, so Sev fills her in on the Aldonza/Land situation. They trade insults, but they’re confident that this will be simply resolved when Hum talks to the lawyer. Sev mentions PJ’s search for Rob’s baby and warns Cande that she might be next on his list to visit, but Cande obviously doesn’t think that will be a problem.

Cris calls Val and awkwardly apologizes again. Eck.
Val tells Pru about the call. Eck.

Aldonza lies on her bed, crying and remembering Cris’s last words.

The Adelina Rumor is spreading rapidly. Whoever Pru was talking to last night (Crazy lady from CME?) has brought it to Candy House Lady, who’s apparently immune from foolish biddies (European chocolate neutralizes SL crazy water?)

Sev is giving Lardo final instructions on his trip to DF. Sev gives him money for a suit and trip expenses and asks Lardo to deposit some cash at the bank for him.

Lola’s at church, presumably praying for mental puberty. She hears the Adelina rumor on her way out and suggests the gossips take their wagging tongues to confession.

Pato fills Renato in on the Lola situation. Renato points out that Lola may have introduced Pato as her boyfriend just to make this other ranchero guy jealous. (Apparently, Pato didn’t recognize Emmanuel from when he and Ren got thrown out of the ranch.) Pato’s aware, but he’s also fallen crazy hard for our little Dolores and thinks maybe they can make this farce real. Renato’s not so confident about his own love life. There’s definitely potential there, but Aldie’s so stuck on Cris, he’s not sure she’ll ever give him (Ren) a chance. Knock on the door. It’s Lola! She bursts right in -which seems to be the credo by which she lives her life- and says she and Pato need to talk about their future “relationship.”

Outside, she apologizes to Pato for the boyfriend lie. She’s straight up about her feelings: she’s got some flutterbyes for Pato, but she’s had Pterodactyls for Eman since back in the day. No matter to Pato (who, incidentally, has got all the right words for a Principe Azul. Lola’s definitely flattered.) They decide to really try dating.

A shirtless Eman is sleeping off the tequila until Hum wakes him up because he’s late for work. E sits up and I get distracted. Several rewinds later… Eman explains he had a few to numb the Lola pain, and Hum’s not mean, but also won’t have that foolishness in his house. E understands.

Aldie runs into Lola, who is rushing to work. They need to have a coffee and fill each other in on what’s up, but later b/c Lola’s late. Before she goes, though, she fills Aldie in on the Adelina rumor. Aldie’s pissed, but unsurprised at this town’s behavior (why are you still there again?). Lola ends up telling Aldie about the Eman/Pato situation, not knowing that Dominga is right behind her. Dom steps forward and gives Lola a good talking to about starting another relationship based on and lies and not learning from her mistakes and not taking anything seriously and that’s why people don’t take her seriously and Ay! Dom storms off. Lola looks appropriately abashed.

Lardo has stopped by the bank. He thinks his dad’s gonna ream him out for something, but Uriel just wants to tell him that he’s impressed by how hard he’s working at his job with Sev. Lardo gives Uriel the deposit from Sev and asks his dad to tell his mom that he’s going the city for work, so that she doesn’t worry. Uriel has to go do some other bank thing and, because he is possibly the worst banker ever, he leaves a frickin stack of someone’s money on his desk in front of his (suspected) thief son!

Val’s at Las Animas; she came to see Cris while their moms plot over tea. Eck. She thinks Cris was right and they should be friends. Cris is down with this plan, but he doesn’t want her to misinterpret things. Val says all the sane things she doesn’t really feel and they shake on it. Double eck.

Cande tells Pru about the Aldie/Sev/Hum/Land situation. Pru is mildly aghast and will have a serious talk with Hum. She shares her brilliant idea to have Val “date” Lardo to make Cris jealous. Cande thinks it’s an idiotic plan. Obviously, this will only dirty Cris’s image of Val (um…ok…) because Lardo is clearly a pig that no decent girl would touch (yeah, ok). Pru hadn’t thought about that aspect of it…hmmm, what to do…Cande doesn’t have time to plot more Mean Girls-esque hyjinks because she’s off to church to torment a priest. Cande says Pru should make herself at home…and by that she means Pru should leave. Cande ushers her out of the parlor.

A still-agitated Dom tells Mel about Lola’s new drama. She’s sorry she had to yell at Lola, especially in front of Aldonza. Mel’s also annoyed with Lola, but he thinks Dom shouldn’t have gone so far. Lola needs some sweet support to balance the constant lecturing.

Pru is talking to Sev in his office. She promises to talk to Hum. Sev thinks that’s an ok plan. Pru reveals that Cande went to church. Sev is not happy about that.

Cande’s staring PJ down, but he continues conducting mass as always.

Irma has invited Adelina to have a coffee. Ade tells her she’s happy to have a friend; she’s been isolated, isn’t very social to begin with, and SL hasn’t welcomed her because she’s Rob’s sister. She stayed with Rob anyway because she was her beloved sister and because she thinks Rob needed her even more than Aldonza did. Irma tells her about the rumor about her and Joaquin. Adelina’s very offended and says that she asked Joaquin to stop helping and distance himself from them for this very reason. She wants to know what she ever did to these people to deserve this.

PJ gives the Eucharist. He hesitates for a hiccup of time when Cande comes up, but gives her the wafer.

Sev wants Cris to comes with him to the city to thwart Aldonza’s plans. He’s having Renato investigated. Cris is very disillusioned with Aldonza. Sev thinks this means he’ll reconnect with Val, but Cris squashes that idea. He knows he’ll never love Val the way she wants him to.

Aldie’s happy that Adelina’s getting out and having friends. Aldonza thinks they’ll have to sell the apartment in the city because the money her mom left won’t be enough to live on for much longer. Adelina’s totally against this. If Aldie’s plans crash and burn, that apartment will be the only cushion they have to break that fall. Aldie tells her aunt that she’ll risk everything to get back what “they took” from her family.

Mel is waiting for PJ after mass. He just wants to tell PJ that he sent Don Camilo to Aldie as a watchman. PJ’s grateful. Mel notes that PJ seems upset. PJ says he’s got to resolve some things.

Lardo, looking admittedly much better in a suit, is at Renato’s law firm asking Silvia about Ren’s part in kicking Sev off Hum/Aldie’s land. Silvia has no idea what he’s talking about. A more senior lawyer bursts in demanding to know where Ren is. Senior lawyer wants him to come to a meeting with the partners or something. Lardo chimes in, saying that that won’t be possible because even if Silvia doesn’t know where Ren is, Lardo can confirm that he’s many hours away in SL, working on a case against Sev Mendoza. Senior lawyer is pissed. Doesn’t look like Ren’s supposed to/allowed to take cases outside of the law firm. It’s clear Ren is in deep, deep sh*t.

Sim/Viv stops by the shop to check on Lola. She says Lola reminds her of her lost daughter and Lola says Sim’s still young and can still have a bunch of kids. Dominga arrives to see the two of them together. Lola introduces them and Dom is shocked.

Thanks, Kat! I'll be back later to read this. I missed the last 30 minutes (I had to go to bed.) I need the recap. Lol.

Thank you, HellaShelle, for another great recap!

"I only just now remember that Roberta had…um…alcoholic tendencies." Oh, good catch! I know it was bugging me how much he's trying to drink away his problems lately.

"Sev mentions PJ’s search for Rob’s baby and warns Cande that she might be next on his list to visit, but Cande obviously doesn’t think that will be a problem." Yeah, what is up with that? Cande is way calm about the whole thing. Something is not right about this.

"Cris calls Val and awkwardly apologizes again. Eck." I glare significantly in Cris' direction until he starts asking "What?" And then shake my head, sigh, and walk away.

"European chocolate neutralizes SL crazy water?" Further proof that chocolate is good for you.

"he leaves a frickin stack of someone’s money on his desk in front of his (suspected) thief son" Beanie moment, for sure. He never should have had a stack of cash on his desk NOT in the famous envelope he asked someone to bring him. That's what the teller window is for.

"Val says all the sane things she doesn’t really feel and they shake on it." Ah, she's back to the pre-Spain, "No worries, we're just buds." playbook. Well, it worked once. Might as well, I guess.

"Lardo, looking admittedly much better in a suit," It's possible I might have frozen in place with my mouth hanging open. I thought he'd get a trashy, tacky suit that would make Sev want to smack him upside the head. That was...a surprise. And he used words with multiple syllables and kept most of the immaturity out of his voice.

"She says Lola reminds her of her lost daughter," Another thing that makes me suspicious. Why does she keep referring to her as "lost"? Is there more to the story or is this just CYA on Simovivianeta's part?

Hey, Diva! Thank you! Nope. You didn't miss a beat!

Tweedledum leaves and TweedleStickUpHerA**

Lola’s at church, presumably praying for mental puberty.

Ok, I'm really trying to restrain myself from whining about Lola. She was one of my favorite residents of SL, now I just want to slap or ignore her!

A shirtless Eman MMmmmm. LAWD ha'mercy! Let me just stop right there!

Cande doesn’t have time to plot more Mean Girls-esque hyjinks because she’s off to church to torment a priest.

The brazen wench! So she's supposed to be so much better than Roberta and Aldonza! What is she going to do next, sit on the first pew and flash PJ?

Aldie tells her aunt that she’ll risk everything to get back what “they took” from her family.

Someone, I think Tofie, said it first but I sure don't like how Aldonza just blows off Tia Adelina and whenever she objects just tells her she can leave. This woman raised her which equals SAVED her life with Roberta being her mother; she has stood by both of them in their darkest hours and just one week ago could've been killed in a drive by and Aldonza just doesn't give a shit! She totally IGNORES everything she says, doesn't take her feelings into consideration . . .okay, repeating myself. I'd like my turn slapping Aldonza, too.

And I guess we're supposed to interpret Cris's lukewarm enthusiasm over Going to the Big City with Daddy to swat that dead fly, Aldonza, as "but I still luuuuv her!"

Even though he hasn't started going with Val again, I'm still making the rounds of other tables, hanging out with Padre J today. That heffa, Candela, has him rattleld.

Thank you Diva! Lovely, as usual!

Lila

Ooopps! Sorry HellaShelle!

Jeezo Pete and it's stated right at the top! Thank you Hella!

Sorry! Posting before coffee and I forgot to add proper attribution to the recap! It's fixed now.

Ack! Sorry! Thank you hellashelle. This was freaking awesome! If I were at a keyboard I would single out lines, but being on the phone makes that hard.

I loved the tweedy stick up her a** line.

Again, this was great and much needed. Hate that I missed Lardo in a suit.

Pobre Padre! He's rattled, for sure. And all because of Cande's braided, twisty logic.

Thanks Diva! Morning all. I missed you guys yesterday!

Diva - Yeah, E's drinking has potential to get dark and serious. I for one wouldn't mind seeing it go down that road because we could get some great scenes out of it, but for now they seem to be playing it light.

Cande definitely thinks her tearful, rage filled confession of love will keep PJ off her back for the rest of time.

Sim/Viv appears to be buttering Lola up for the reveal that she is in fact Lola's mother. I have the feeling that she's going to spin it like Dom and Mel stole Lola from her.

Ok, I took this out of the recap because I didn't have the energy, but the scenes with Pru, Cande and Sev felt distinctly like school to me. It was like Pru got a call about her rebellious son acting up, went to see the teacher and then then had to see the principal about it.

Sara, Lardo in a suit was...he does clean up good. If only he hadn't started ratting Ren out to Senior Lawyer and letting his usual snicker and smirk creep back in. Totally ruins the effect.

Ok, another beanie moment, there...no way Senior Lawyer really would have come in and had that conversation with Sylvia with a total stranger in the room.

Yikes! There was one comment when I started typing. Thanks Lila and Sara! And no need to apologize :)

HellaShelle, oh, there was a definite school vibe! Pru kept saying "I'll have a serious talk with him"...she's not his mother!

Don't like what Sim/Viv is doing to Lola all along. Lola has been so stupid lately, she'll probably believe Sim/Viv's spin and get totally furious at Dom and Mel and even try to move out and estrange herself from them. I HOPE she's not that stupid but if she is, I won't be shocked!

Diva, you are so right. The Senior Lawyer, LAWYER now, falling for a trick by a stranger: a lying, thieving, failure to launch, good for nothing stranger at that! Beanie moment for sure! So Renato is going to be in further trouble because this stranger comes in unannounced, without an appointment and unidentified, spouting crap. Seems like Renato needs to find another law firm!

I apologize to Sylvia. Apparently not only was she NOT squealing on Renato, she was covering for him!

Ok, I wasn't on the patio much this weekend or at all yesterday, but Lila it sounds like you and Tofie are with me on clacking Aldonza and Lola's heads together. I'm not as made with Lola as her grammy, but I am tired of all of this escandalo over that dumb drunken kiss. I doubt it'll happen this way, but I could stand for her to give E a serious rest and try things with Pato or by her frickin self.

Aldie...I've been pissed at her for a while now and she's not helping. She needs to stop ignorning her aunt's wishes entirely. Her aunt is not her employee! Her aunt is equivalent to a mother and if nothing else the way she gives her news should be edited. I wasn't able to comment yesterday, but sus planes, so far, suck. Hum's rightfully pissed. I asked about that darn land v. house thing a couple weeks ago and now I'm just shaking my head. Seriously? The ONLY think Ren said she needed to do is talk to Hum before starting and she didn't do that?! I suspended disbelief when Cris started spouting love in the rain, hoping that the follow up would justify things, but so far I just haven't seen it. The further we go without some sign that they've connected on some deep, spiritual levl, the tighter I'm having to squeeze this beanie.

Renato - Damn, boy you are in TROUBLE! I thought he squared all this away with the office before he started this whole thing. At least, I won't blame Aldie for this. I'm sure I remember her telling him she didn't want to interfere with his actual work. But I'm also confused because he also seemed like he was trying very hard to be careful about keeping up with office work so that he wouldn't mess up his promising career. Did he not clear the time out of the office? Is it not covered under bereavement? If it's part of his contract not to work on outside cases, then he has no defense: he's a freaking lawyer, he must understand the terms of his own darn contract.

I should've titled it "Aldie's stepped in it, but everyone's shoes are covered" or "Sh*t hits the fan and all the good guys are splattered"

everyone's shoes are covered" or "Sh*t hits the fan and all the good guys are splattered"

You said it, HellaShelle! The good guys ARE all splattered and the bad guys are circling their wagons or more like raising a collective fist to deliver another blow to Aldonza and Company! About the best I can say about how Aldonza is treating her Tia is that it is, unfortunately, an accurate portrayal of how many young people her age treat their "elders." Also kind of tics me that she seems more willing to listen to Padre J than to her Tia. Even though it was a cute moment when Aldonza and Padre J sat on the floor
laughing together, Adelina was kind of chuckled and waved off. Roberta often didn't respect or listen to Adelina, either. Just steams me. I see why Adelina had to go behind her back to ask Joaquin to back off the partnership because Aldonza SURE as hell wouldn't have listened to her.

Let her till the soil with her own hands and plant her own damned melons, impudent, obsessed whipper snapper! Not writing her off, just ticked!

HellaShelle...title posted :D

On the one hand, it's possible that Renato's contract doesn't specify that he's required to be in the office certain hours, and he IS getting his work done, but his bosses are pissed anyway. I've been in similar situations where "flexible scheduling" was supposed to mean that as long as my work was done, my hours didn't matter because I was going to be working from home, after hours, a lot. At some unspecified point, it started to bother a certain someone that I was getting work done and had staffing was covered, but I just didn't happen to be in the office when they wanted me to be there. Anyway, that was a really specific situation, and certainly not a "first job right out of college" kind of position. Pato was talking about how Renato's such a hot shot and he can get away with this because "How will they ever find someone to replace you?" They were consistent with that until Senior Lawyer and The Partners started complaining. So now I have to question whether he really is some kind of legal genius or he just thinks his and is about to lose his job over it.

Insight and wit done wonderfully Hellashelle.

"Lola’s home and getting a verbal pat down from her grandparents"

I'm sick of Lola and glad Dominga gave her an ass chewing.

Oh that Cande, on the front row, burning a hole through that robe, hot for preacher.

Cande - erotic communion

PJ - it moved

Abelardo - it was this or my tux tee

Pato - wish they all could be Santa Lucia girls

Renato - don't give a fig, rather become a partner of Aldonza & Renato LLC

Aldonza - your choice, spinster aunt or bag lady

Cris - I'll just hold my nose until I get use to the stench

Uriel - need a few dollars for your trip?

"hot for preacher"

AHA! I was smart today. I put my coffee cup down as soon as I saw "tofie". I would have ruined a keyboard and a very finicky knitting project...in shades of cream!

Hellashelle.....PERFECT recap. Thank you so much. Missed you guys yesterday, but did make a couple of stops by the patio.

To paraphrase the Gringo, MUST SEE TV tonight. Can't wait to see what Dom will do!!

Tofie, Tofie, Tofie! You baaad!

Here are my faves:

Cande - erotic communion

PJ - it moved

Pato - wish they all could be Santa Lucia girls

Cande is a trip! What does she think, that church is what Steve Harvey called it, "Ass Mass!"

Go on to hell, girl, and let Satan take down your braids!

Awesome, Hellashelle! Your recap has inspired some great, fiery comments this morning.

I have to laugh because I picture all of us as these old folks waving our canes from the patio at that headstrong whippersnapper Aldonza, who just scampers off ignoring us (like she ignores Adelina). So much of what she's doing, and how she's doing it can be attributed to her youth. In addition to a sense of being wronged and entitled to righting that wrong herself.

Lola is a total wreck in conducting her love life. But I still love how straight forward she is, and how much of a good friend she is. I'm annoyed at how she overreacted to the whole drunken kiss thing. I hate that she is breaking E-man's heart. But I think it might be good for her to date someone else for a while (or forever). Hopefully, she'll mature a bit in the way she handles romantic relationships.

"...it might be good for her to date someone else for a while (or forever)."

I had a similar thought. Lola's story would be a perfect one for a "who will she end up with?" plot since we are pretty decided Aldonza ends up with Cris.

I have worried for a while now, each time I see E-man drowning his sorrows in drink, or just liking the taste of alcohol a bit too much (the party). It has always reminded me of Roberta and I do feel that the writers are foreshadowing this habit moving to a dark place like it did with his mother.

I really don't want them to go there with E-man, but it does look like they are.

Being the dullard that I am...I didn't even make the Roberta/alcohol connection.

It would be one thing if Aldie was just going down an obsessive hole by herself, but the way she speaks to her aunt about things that are going to affect her aunt too is what has me shaking my figurative cane. I get it if it's "her life" but it's "their life" and she's just like "this is what's happening, whether or not you like it and you have no say in it." This isn't about just her and her decisions could put many people in potentially be a life or death situations.

The only time I kind of get that is when you have a stubborn older parent figure who's refusing to change their lifestyle even though they can't live that way safely anymore. I've seen that with my granparents and other older friends.

Youthful folly is pardonable, like Lola's love life or Renato's misplace priorities in trying to impress a girl may get him fired, but what Aldonza is doing may get people killed. Folly is one thing, Aldonza's actions reckless.

Thanks, HelleShelle for you wonderful and snappy recap.

Like many of you, I wonder what gives with Renato's work situation. He seemed to have all the bases covered, but now that all seems to be blowing up in his face. Maybe his "cover" consisted entirely of Sylvia covering for him.

I also agree that Aldonza is becoming something of a loose canon. What seemed to be very well thought out "mis planes" are turning out to be unworkable in the real life stresses that she now faces.

Lardo, although he cleans up well, is lower than pond scum, and I laughed when Candy said that it wouldn't help Val's case to be seen hanging out with him, while she's been doing him behind the scenes.

Sev seems to be all to willing to kill for rather trivial reasons, but he only attacks those who are weaker than him. I suppose that he is one-armedly digging his own grave.

David

Oh, gosh! I just had a horrible thought! Let them not kill off poor Adelina like happened to the Godmother of a character in QA. It was only after the GM's murder that the character, Leading Lady BTW, realized how right and wise the GM was!

Yikes and NO! Poor Adelina has just been so frustrated and afraid during this whole thing, I hope she finds some fun besides coffee with Irma, but that's a start!

I can't decide if I would rather Aldonza just drop it...well, ok, I would, because it's kind of stupid to begin with...or rather Adelina gets the hell out of there! The relationship they have is getting to be like Adelina's relationship with Roberta. She can't talk any sense into Aldonza, but she won't leave either. I want to admire her loyalty, but right now it's feeling WAY misguided! And I don't like that she doesn't seem to have a life of her own. I'm glad that Irma invited her out for coffee. That's maybe the first sign of Adelina having a life that doesn't revolve around someone else. She dropped everything back in wherever she came from to come take care of Aldonza while Roberta was rolling in the hay. Now she's dropped her entire life in the DF because Aldonza doesn't want to leave SL. Aldonza needs to quit treating her aunt like she's just another member of her entourage, AND Adelina needs to quit allowing it.

Diva, we posted at the same time and are on the same page with all of the patio on Adelina.

David -- Sev seems to be all to willing to kill for rather trivial reasons, but he only attacks those who are weaker than him. I suppose that he is one-armedly digging his own grave.

Well said, funny and TRUE!

"Aldonza needs to quit treating her aunt like she's just another member of her entourage"

I wonder why does Aldonza even have an entourage? Yes she's cute but that's it. Is this another show where that is all it takes? Now, if she draws a line through the middle of Santa Lucia and tells everybody to pick a side. Those that love Severiano over there and those that hate him with me, then I would get it.

Lila - ah! I hadn't even considered that! I really hope it doesn't get to that point. Hospital stay is as far as they should go.

Diva - yeah, Ade should speak up or take off.

Right after the shooting Aldonza said she was staying but she'd understand if Adelina wanted to go, but other than that she hasn't even given Ade or PJ advanced warning before she takes actions like serving Sev papers or hiring a watchman.

Tofie - even if she drew a line, she'd still probably just have her family and friends. Sev and Cande fuel a significant portion of the economy of SL and most people have probably never had a reason to be in Sev's crosshairs, so they probably think he's great.

Aldonza has an entourage because she's the protagonist. And also because she's warm, strong, confident, and engaging. She's a loving friend, daughter, and niece. Does her confidence sometimes look like arrogance and selfishness? Yes. But that's true of all the young characters (and young people in general).

Adelina definitely needs to dig out a portion of her life and dedicate it to just herself and her desires/hopes/likes. But she will never leave Aldonza. I wouldn't either if my niece had a evil mad man who had RAPED her in the past after her. That would take a particular cold heart to leave one's child (because that's what Aldonza is to Adelina) in a life or death dangerous situation like that.

Thanks Hellashelle. Good job.

So Cris clearly can't be in so love with Aldonza enough that he's willing to just throw his hands up and say I guess I didn't know her that well after all. Well, he really doesn't, but he really doesn't know his parents very well at all either and he's known them a lot longer.

Abelardo really looked like he was actually related to the actor playing his father. I wonder if he did end up taking the money that was sitting on the desk.

If Adelina and Aldonza need more money to live on, why don't they A. Both get jobs, B. Rent out the apartment instead of selling it, C. Both get jobs.

I know we are allowed to talk about anything that is on TV that is currently shown, so I will say that the avances showed PJ in a car accident. We can surely guess who's behind that one. I hope he doesn't die.

Ew, not a pleasant thought, but...it's not that she's cute, it's that everyone who's on her "side" thinks she needs protecting. And she does, but not for the reasons they think. They're worried about small-scale retaliation because they don't know how far Sev has already gone. Only Adelina really knows how high the stakes are. I wonder what Renato would say, or if he'd want to change their strategy. He thinks he knows how Sev will react, but he really doesn't understand Sev as well as he thinks he does because he doesn't have all the facts.

Yeah, Ade's not going anywhere, that's true. And Aldonza did specifically say she was glad to see Ade making friends and creating a life for herself.

I can understand Aldonza's drive to get revenge on Sev, but her rudeness goes beyond age to me. There's nothing to back up the idea that she knows better than Adelina, just that she wants revenge more. I get that she knows that Ade and PJ will probably try to talk her out of everything, but she could preface her actions. Even if she's going to do whatever she wants anyway, they deserve to know what she's getting them into and be heard if they have a safer way of doing things. Instead, she leaves them open to drive bys and night meetings with Sev and whatnot.

Thing is, when Aldonza tells Adelina to lump it or leave, even if Adelina wanted to leave, Aldonza holds all the purse strings. Adelina is stuck because she was a stay at home mom for 20 years.

Adelina worked for a dressmaker in D.F. But homemaking is her main work.

"a safer way of doing things"...like from a safe distance! Or through proxies! From an undisclosed location.

I guess the problem, from a narrative standpoint, is that it's usually the "bad guys" who work behind the scenes, hide their deeds, etc. Aldonza was a little shifty about kicking the animals off her land, but she's still ultimately doing it openly. If she stayed in the DF, used the money to fund Scorched Melon Enterprises Inc., hid her involvement, and did everything through the company...that's not how "good guys" are supposed to operate.

Cathyx- Adelina and Aldonza did discuss renting the apartment in D.F. I believe that was the original intent. But Aldonza needs a large sum of cash to invest in the land to get things going (which technically is her job) and that's why she wants to sell it outright.

It seems obvious that Renato is going to get fired and move to Santa Lucia. Good, I hope Cris gets even more jealous and idiotic. I don't like him anymore.

Hellashelle--Thank you for the most excellent, well-told tale of what otherwise would have been a ho-hum episode...and you make it funny, too....and it generated a lot of commentary, specifically on how Aldie treats Adelie. (WHY did the writers have to give us such similar names to two major characters, anyway. Didn't they just introduce an Alonso--or am I thinking of another tn....dang.)

Helle, you said, "I get it if it's "her life" but it's "their life" and she's just like "this is what's happening, whether or not you like it and you have no say in it." This isn't about just her and her decisions could put many people in potentially be a life or death situations."

You are so right--as we look at their relationship now. But it is safe to assume Aldie was always headstrong and wanting her own way (remember the Great Convent Caper?). Adelie has always given in, it's her nature to nurture through thick and thin, regardless of her situation. She's probably spent 20 years trying to tell Roberta and Aldonza, NO, to no avail.

But this IS different. Doesn't Aldie see it? The shooting? If something were to happen to Adelina, will Aldie cry and then return to double her vengeance, for something she probably provoked?

Oh dear, more comments popped up which probably continue to discuss Aldie and Adelina in the same vein. So, the Hand withdraws back into the bushes, feeling around for some partially empty cans of Melon flavored Sprite.

Aldonza thought she'd have Joaquin on the cheap and has to pay somebody now. She also has lengthy litigation in front of her and should she lose, Severiano's lawyer will request she pay his attorney fees. Perhaps she should have opened a B&B.

I checked eBay and didn't see the Hard Candy House.

tofie, with that gorgeous waterfall, hell yeah! It would have made a great little quiet vacation spot. Humberto's stupid for not having thought of that himself. He didn't even have to provide any amenities, just rent the house.

I was admiring Tomas' marketing skills until he said his email was "papichulo@..." Dude...no. Just no.

Anita--they make melon Sprite? If anything happens to Adelina, or Padre J, she'll just double down on the "You won't get away with this!!!!!"

Vivi, yes, that's true, running/starting up the farm is supposed to be her job. The savings account should have been a cushion until money started coming in. It was a bad business decision to assume things/labor would be available for free/cheap.

Maybe there's a Mexican EBay.

Holy smoke-- a girl has to be on three back to back conference calls and wow-- a stellar recap and a whole lot of comments to work through. Perfect lunch!!

On that "rewind several times" on E-man. I couldn't catch all the show last night fighting over the remote with the CAVS on, but I got that scene and promptly hid the remote in the chair until it was over. Sigh

But I'm with you all, I think the tragic vibe is getting stronger around our dear boy. Not being able to handle his liquor, yet heading to it so readily, just gives me a sense of doom. Hopefully not long-lived, but with all the fur flying, he could be a prime candidate to get in someone's cross-hairs while drunk, or blamed for something. So not fair.

But dang, also have to say, I like Lola and Pato together. He seems to calm her down a bit, if anyone can do that.

So Ren is going to get fired. Nice setup, but honestly, he's probably got some money stashed from being a rich kid so he could set something up himself in SL. If that was Sev's plan, that may actually backfire. (Does Sev know he's a young man with a wealthy father? Don't think so).

Seeing Cris calling Val, I suddenly had the chorus "Oh, I'm working my way back to you babe" going thru my head. We all know there's no longer any such thing as "just friends" with these two. Didn't not understand that move from him. Allie is mad at me, so I need to be friends with Val?

Wonder if PJ hesitated because he knows Cande is hardly one to be taking the communion. Your supposed to be free from Mortal and have asked forgiveness for your Venial sins before doing that. (Yeah!!--I remembered something from Catholic grade school). She's hardly pure as the snow in that department with what she knows and the lies she helped perpetuate. That was an interesting challenge on her part.

Daisynjay

I'm a little surprised Cande didn't instantly burst into flames. I'm pretty sure gazing lustfully at the priest WHILE taking communion is some sort of extra-special sin.

Cris is behaving like that spaghetti sauce commercial "What other questionable decisions have I made?" Just because he now thinks he was "wrong" about Aldonza, he's decided he must be wrong about a whole lot of other things too. He couldn't have started with "Wrong to buy my mom and dad's BS?"

Diva - lol that commercial is a perfect fit for TNs!

Cris doesn't know it's BS. In fact, now he thinks they were all right in what they said about her. I think now that he realizes he doesn't really know Aldonza, the way he treated Val is really sinking in. Especially since -despite all of his protests- he did break up with her, in large part, Because of Aldonza. I'm glad he was clear that he's not (intending to) go down that road again. He's another one that could use some time outside of a relationship.

Daisynjay- I really like Lola and Pato together, too. But I also like E-man!

I think I'm definitely at my participation limit with this now that things are getting more subtle/legal/complicated!

We should give props to Irma for ignoring the rumors and trying to get to know Adelina.

Please don't have E's growing love of alcohol intersect with any guns that may be floating around or with scheming Val, patting her bed.

If Hum complies with Sev's wishes, what do you think Aldonza's next move will be?

I think Cris has always been reluctant to take that extra step that just MAYBE his parents were in the wrong. I suppose understandable, but it has bothered me that if you are sooooo passionately in love with someone, as he claims he is, that he just could not and would not connect the dots on things she said and some of the behavior he saw around him. Like that little boy who puts his fingers in his ear and yells LALALALA I can't hear you when told it's time for a bath or he has to eat his spinach.

Love your burst into flames comment Kat. If she was outside, lightening may have come down from the heavens. I mean honestly, what does she hope to gain? Talk about warped thinking. Only way I back off on this is if we learn that just maybe the good Padre sort of kind of maybe led her on a bit in his youthful days before the collar came calling. But boy, he sure looked gobsmacked earlier that day when she was railing at him...then again, he looked rather pensive later. Remembering something maybe?

So, the Hand withdraws back into the bushes, feeling around for some partially empty cans of Melon flavored Sprite.

Anita, Girl, come out of the shrubbery and get thee to one of these tables on the patio, or circulate around! Silly! ;D

Your supposed to be free from Mortal and have asked forgiveness for your Venial sins before doing that.

Oooh, okay Daisy, thank you! Didn't know this. Maybe THAT is why Padre is rattled, and not that Cande is, er, moving him?

Diva, I LOVE that spaghetti sauce commercial and that's brilliant! That's EXACTLY what Cris is doing!

I hadn't made the alcohol-Roberta connection either with E-man but it rings too true. Gosh, please don't let him start floating in liquor because, despite what Mel and Dom think, Lola is NOT worthy it. She NEVER gave him a chance to speak and totally misinterpreted that PUBLIC "kiss" but is treating it as if she came upon E-man and Mari in the stable in full carnal communication! She's impulsive and dishonest and is now using Pato to make E-man jealous and as a spare. She may be more like her mother than we realize.

Re the cash on the desk. Of course Sev didn't know Uriel would walk away from the desk with money on full display but I get the impression that Sev is baiting Abelardo. I don't know why: he knows Lardo is a liar AND a thief, which is why he hired him so I can't even defend the baiting theory. Maybe if he steals from HIM, he'll can him? But since when does Sev nead a "reason" to do what he does?

Then there's that loose end of when Sim/Viv told Sev about Lardo coming uninvited into her house, I thought Sev said he was going to "take care" of the situation?

I hate the previews. Ugh! Don't want to think about it!

Hellashelle- I thought that was wonderful of Irma too. And props to Shop Lady/Marga too for telling the gossip ladies to shut it. It's interesting that each of our good characters, except wise Padre J, have some kind of blind spot/weakness.

Irma is great to Lola and Adelina, but has a blind spot for her rotten kids.

Dominga and Melesio are all about supporting Aldonza and Cris and telling them to go with their heart, but will not support Lola and E-man, even though their mistakes/dramas are far less serious than Al's and Cris'.

Adelina is kind and nurturing, a great mom/aunt, but she has given up her own life for others and takes on other's sins/crimes as her own (Roberta's) and let's them hold her prisoner.

Lola is spunky, straight forward, and a great friend, but in her love life she acts like an immature, petulant 12 year old.

E-man is sweet and loyal, but lets people run all over him.

Renato is an all around good guy, but is letting his Aldonza obsession ruin his chances with other women and his job.

We've already listed Al's personality flaws that are putting her family at risk, but I still admire how she picks herself up after tragic events and moves forward. No extended whining or crying that we get from too many heroines these day.

Where's Cris, Vivi? Is he on the bad guy side?

Lila- LOL! Not a bad guy (yet). He's a good guy, but his flaws give me a headache. OK. They really just amount to being (willfully) naive about his parents and former novia, and complacent.

. . .his flaws give me a headache Hee hee! I think as the show goes on, all of us are going to have that ache, but a little lower!

:D

Lila- LOL! Just give me more shirtless E-man scenes.

Adelina needs a BACKBONE & tell others to shove it!

Thanks for the topical comment, Steve. I'm sure you meant to thank HellaShelle for her work on this recap, too, but were so excited about sharing your observation that it slipped your mind.

HellaShelle – Thank you for the recap and the delicious snark! I agree with Anita … you made a hohum episode fun. So many memorable snarks but my fav are :
---I only just now remember that Roberta had…um…alcoholic tendencies. (good call … I forgot that)
---Lola’s at church, presumably praying for mental puberty.
---E sits up and I get distracted. (Bwahahahaha! Um, yes, he looked hawt!)

tofie – Love your list.
Pato - I now have aBeach Boys earworm in my head
Lardo – Bwahaha!

Lola’s …. flower arrangement? … gosh that thing was big, looked heavy and unwieldy to be toting around these past two episodes. It was almost as tall as she is! Does the size of the flowers say anything about the guy’s hands and feet?

I'm a little surprised Cande didn't instantly burst into flames.”
Diva – roflol!!!

I think it says something about the size of his...pockets.

Thank you HellaShelle for a great recap.

Is Aldonza going to loose padre J
tonight? Another victim of Sever?
the gringo

Gringo! Where have you been?

I hope not! 2 priesticides in one show, both by the same guy? What are the chances that for once something is just a blameless accident?

Gringoooooo! Let's pray not, damned spoiling previews! Let it not be so!!!

Vivi, great character assessments.

When Sev dropped by for a chat with Cris, as he polished the saddle horn, to tell him of a trip to DF, I noticed the boy is struggling with his new reality. He is uncomfortable with throwing in with mom and dad totally against Aldonza but has given up hope and just going through the motions. Two makeout sessions, both to be followed by a stiff arm and now a law suit and the guy must really be kicking himself. The Aldonza in his heart doesn't exist except in his head.

Totally agree, Tofie. This is what I referred to as his lukewarm enthusiasm. I guess this signals us that he still loves Aldonza. I also wondered a couple of days ago what influence Sev will have on him. We're beginning to see that. Hopefully he'll stay lukewarm. As that little confrontation in the living room the other day with Renato showed, he can go to a boil in a couple of seconds.

What will it take for him to step back and question his parents again?

"The Aldonza in his heart doesn't exist except in his head."

That's deep. I mean, we do this, as humans...and sometimes our mental representation of the person is WAY off from the actual person, but sometimes we get it right. If we actually, oh, I dunno...spend some time with them!

thanks, hellashelle.

Wait..Is it true that Ade told Joaquin to turn down Al's offer ? I missed that.

Yeah, she asked him not to do it, in the name of the feelings he said he had for her once. He wasn't happy. He said he'd think about it, so we didn't know right away that he was going to turn it down.
