La Sombra del Pasado #53 - Thu 4/30 - Nuestros Planes

Well, Aldonza doesn't know how the hell they'll make this work, but she's determined to try.  And Cris swears everything will be fine and he'll make her the happiest woman in the world.  We'll see how long that lasts.

Pato goes into Irma's shop and encounters a Mari-in-the-box, who he claims not to remember all that well from his last visit.  In retaliation for him not falling at her feet, she asks if he's bothered asking Lola's overprotective grandparents for permission to date Lola.  She implies that if he doesn't do that, pitchforks and torches may be in his future.

Pobre de Irma goes into Lardo's alcohol and cigarette scented bedroom.  Ew!  He complains about his horrible hangover and how his parents don't understand him, waaaaaaaah!  He leaves his mom "con la palabra en la boca" (with the word in her mouth; mid-sentence).

Pato and Silvia get checked into the hotel and Pato leaves her immediately, to deal with his gentlemanly obligations--which do not include taking his suitcase upstairs or getting unpacked.  But, hey, his good buddy Silvia will take care of that for him.  Or, at least, I hope she was kidding about unpacking for him.

We return to our snogging in progress at The Most Romantic Location on Earth, aka, El Santuario.  Cris is ready to get married tomorrow, but my vote is for "in the next five minutes."  He suggests they start the bureaucratic ball rolling today and do the deed tomorrow.  She convinces him they need to stay in the area so they can always snog in their magic place.  Well, it is a very pretty waterfall.  Cris understands he's going to have to deal with Aldonza's lawsuit and vows to stay out of it.  Cris thinks they need to keep their plans quiet…ding, ding, ding!  That idea's a winner!  But Aldonza wants Padre J to marry them. And Cris wants to get married "por lo civil" (civilly; legally) ASAP.  They're snogging so much I can't tell if anything really got decided.

Pato goes to the house and meets with Dominga, who tells him to get lost before Sev sees him.  Melesio shows up and agrees with Dominga.  Pato very formally brings up that they're Lola's guardians and he would like permission to court her.  They're gobsmacked.

Padre J can't wait to get the hell out of the hospital.  Adelina is fussing over him and they're interrupted by Cande, who wants a moment alone with him.  Padre J desperately tries to telegraph that Adelina should NOT leave him alone with his molester, but Adelina misses his clearly mouthing "no."  Cande wants to know if Sev had something to do with the accident, but Padre J sticks to the "there's no proof" line.  Cande changes the subject.  She brought him a present--the rosary she used to pray for his recovery.  He jerks his hand out of hers.  She starts wondering where Cris and/or Aldonza are and Padre J loses his temper and tells her to quit trying to control Cris' life and let him be with whoever he wants to!  "Not with that woman!  I'd rather die!"

Pato gets off on the wrong foot with the grandparents, on account of the whole "Gato/Pato" confusion and calling her a little "despistada" (scatterbrained).  Pato says he's serious about Lola and comes from a good family.  We then get the whole "these people don't speak the same language" crap we got when Pato and Lola met the first time.  Lots of bird puns follow.  Dominga now knows he's the guy Lola's using to make Em jealous.  Melesio likes him.  Dominga declares him either really brave or really stupid.  Mel votes stupid.

Valeria comes home, furious at having been seen by Aldonza snogging Lardo.  She's rude(r than usual) to Pru for chattering on about Cris.  Val spouts a bunch of nonsense about how she's determined to win…to which I give a hearty "Whatever" and a "shut up already!"  Pru goes off to "Bible Study."

More snogging by Cris and Aldonza while the pretty, pretty horse keeps trying to impress upon us that he is, indeed, very, very pretty.  I don't even care what the two humans are saying, 'cause it's all going to fall apart soon anyway.  The horse keeps trying to get into the scene, knowing that he can only make it better.

Silvia is telling Adelina about what happened back at the law firm when Aldonza comes home.  Adelina goes off to do some laundry, leaving Silvia with a cautious Aldonza.  Silvia tells Aldonza the judge's ruling got postponed for a day, that Renato is dealing with the apartment, that she's sorry about it.  Aldonza apologizes about getting her fired, but Silvia says it's not her fault and she's got plans.  She'll be working with Renato for now and they'll see what happens after that.  As far as the case goes, while the lawsuit is in progress, the judge will have to rule on whether Sev's animals can stay until a final decision is reached.  That's the ruling that got postponed until tomorrow…and it affects when/whether they'll be able to get the farm up and running.

Flavia is furious that Joaquin dared to neglect his wife, his child…and his business…to take care of Padre J, which in Flavia-land is code for "screw around with Adelina."  Because in Flavia-land all roads lead to Joaquin screwing around with Adelina.  Joaquin could go in for a root canal and somehow, Flavia would make it all about Adelina.  Joaquin says his business, his wife, and his child are all take care of.  Oh, except that there's a problem with some land they bought and it being foreclosed on.  And how long has she been hiding this information from him?

Irma is worried about Lardo and the stench of his bedroom.  She warns Mari that Lardo had better not find out from someone else that Mari is dating Emmanuel.  On account of Lardo nearly knocking his brains out with a stick that one time.

Simoneta goes to Irma's shop to hang out with Lola.  She invites her over for dinner.  And brings her a present--a gold bracelet.  Nothing fancy, she says.

Joaquin shows up at Aldonza's just as the ladies are leaving for the hospital.  He offers them a ride into town, but Aldonza is going to drive the truck.  He is introduced to Silvia.  He tells them he got into yet another fight with Flavia, on account of this property, and hey isn't it lucky that Silvia is a lawyer.  She asks to see the letter.  Looks like she and Renato are going to be hanging out a shingle in Santa Lucia soon.

Tomas' dad (I think) checks out Pru's car, but doesn't see anything wrong with it at first glance.  If she leaves it he'll take a closer look.  Tomas and Pru take a closer look at each other's tonsils.  Up against the car.  I ignore their meaningless words.  Pru cuts him off as his dad brings her receipt.

Cris tells Em that he's not going on that trip to the DF after all.  No, not for any particular reason…that he'll find out later.  Cris changes the subject to Mari and Em tells him he had dinner with her parents.  Cris laughs that at least the Lagos are nice people…except for Lardo.  He'll give Em a helmet for the next time Em goes over to their house.

Pru and her handprinted butt pay off the taxi driver and saunter into her house.

Adelina talks to Padre J about Cande's stolen kiss…and not a "friendly" one either.  Padre J is in denial, but Adelina knows what she saw.  Since Cande confessed her undying lust…er, love…in the confessional, Padre J says he doesn't know why she would have done that, but best not say anything about it, 'cause you know how the gossip flows in this town.  Adelina agrees, but also says she won't protect Cande.

Simoneta chats up Lola over cake and coffee.  They talk about how pretty Las Animas is, and how pretty El Santuario is.  Lola lets loose about the fight between Aldonza and the Mendozas.  Simoneta shows her to the bathroom before she runs back to work and luckily (for us) Severiano comes in and starts macking on Simoneta.  Lola, exiting the bathroom, gets an eyeful and looks so disappointed that I swear I heard Simoneta's guilty heart break.  Sev looks more scared than murderous, but I'm sure that won't take long to change.

Pru stops by Humberto's office.  He's not there, but that lets his secretary get an eyeful of the incriminating handprints and bring them to Pru's attention.  Pru's attempt to say she got her hands dirty at the mechanics and then crossed her arms behind her back to grab her own ass would be more comical if it wasn't such a pathetic excuse.

Sev wonders what Lola is doing there.  Lola says that Simoneta invited her, then angrily grabs her purse and storms out, despite Simoneta's pleading.  She also gets in an "I never would have even said hello to you if I'd known who you were."  This isn't looking good for Simoneta's future relationship with her daughter.  Sev calls her an idiot and backhands her.  He demands an explanation.  This can't end well.

Cris sneaks up on Dominga while she's washing dishes.  He thanks her for her earlier advice, 'cause he's soooooooo happy.  Dominga warns him that he's still got a long way to go and it's going to be complicated.  "I'm sure together we can deal with anything!"  Dominga says when the-you-know-whos find out, the shit is going to hit the fan, so he'd better be prepared.  But she likes seeing him ready to fight for his love.  I agree, it's a welcome change.

Simoneta says she was lonely and Lola seemed like a nice girl is all.  Sev angrily reminds her that she agreed to be kept in this gilded cage as the condition for her staying in town.  He says after what that girl saw, everyone's going to find out and Cande will learn who Simoneta is and where she lives.  Simoneta is finally furious and says Cande had to find out sometime and she already knows that Simoneta exists.  Sev counters that she knows he has a lover, but she doesn't know it's Simoneta.  And while to Simoneta that's the same thing, for Sev it's not.  Simoneta asks him to forgive her (yuck!) and says if she'd known he was coming over, she wouldn't have invited Lola.  "Oh, so now you want me to tell you when I'm coming over?  I rented this house!"  Simoneta pours on the charm and promises it won't happen again.  "No, it won't.  You're going back to San Miguel.  I don't want to see you here when I come back from Mexico."  She shouts after him that they're not done talking as he walks out.  Mr. 5ft and I agree that we're nervous for Lola.

Silvia talks to Renato, gives him the update on Aldonza's case, and tells him about Joaquin's case.  They agree to help Joaquin.  Silvia is going to review the paperwork and when Renato shows up he'll see what they can do.  Renato doesn't know when he'll be able to get to town.  Silvia barely avoids rolling her eyes as Ren says he's glad she met up with Aldonza.

Lola was so upset over what happened that she went back to work instead of visiting the Padre.  She tells Irma she feels so disappointed after trusting in Simoneta.  She says that Simoneta was nice to her, but she just wasn't who Lola thought she was.  She doesn't give Irma any details.

Melesio gives Emmanuel instructions to bathe the horses after he's done training them.  Sev approaches and we find out that the two fillies Em is training are Sombra's offspring and they're heading to the DF with Sev tomorrow.  Mel says they're beautiful.  "I'd be surprised if they weren't," Sev replies.  Melesio wishes he could see the buyer's reaction to the horses.  The music of doom plays as Sev says one day he'll invite Mel and his ENTIRE FAMILY to see him close a deal.  He figures Lola has to get time off from work, you know, 'cause she probably has a schedule and stuff. Mel unwittingly provides Sev with her work schedule, ignoring my frantic telepathy.  Sev suggests they try to arrange this for the following trip.  For tomorrow's he wants it to be just him and Cris.  Em, for no reason I can fathom, decides to tell Sev that Cris isn't going because he had stuff to do.  Sev is pissed that Em is the one giving him this info and tells him to get back to work.

Back at the hospital, Aldonza happily announces to Padre J that he might get to go home tomorrow.  Padre J is anxious to get out of that bed already.  They remind him he's going to have to keep resting.  "Quit treating me like an invalid!"  He changes the subject to Aldonza's trip to Mexico.  "There's no point going until I get some news from Renato."  Adelina tries to cover up what happened, as does Aldonza, and he says that not telling him so he doesn't get stressed out is stressing him out!  He can tell when they're hiding things from him.  So spill!  Aldonza tells him that her mom's apartment burned down.

No Privacy Theater.  Cande comes to interrogate Cris about his whereabouts during the day while he looks at papers in folders --gathering what he needs to get a marriage license?  Since Cande went by the hospital and he wasn't there and Aldonza wasn't there, she's sure they MUST have been off somewhere together!  Well, fine, Cris owns up to it.  Cande wants to know where they were and what they were doing and I almost wish he would tell her, with allllllll the snoggy details, just to watch her eyeballs pop out of her head.  She accuses him of hiding something.  Cris just says he had to talk to her and claims it was about Sev and her accusations.  Cande backs off just barely and then explodes again when Cris says Aldonza has no intention of backing off.  She brags that the cops already decided it was an accident.  "Oh.  She must not know that.  I'm happy for my dad.  He can sleep soundly now."  Cande is pissed that Cris isn't as happy as he ought to be.  "To be honest with you, mom, it's been a while now that I wouldn't put my hands in the fire for him…or you."  Cande accuses Aldonza of infecting him and turning him against them, and says she'll end up making him hate them.  Projecting much, Cande?

Tomorrow: A big revelation of which I will not speak.

Hola, mis peeps, I'm home :)

Carnegie was AWESOME! We spent the first few days in rehearsals at the hotel, so we didn't set foot on stage until Monday afternoon for sound check. I kept feeling like I was going to burst into tears...there were pictures all over the walls of all the artists who have performed there over the years. The acoustics were just gorgeous. The audience was appreciative. Mr. 5ft and my mom were in the audience, which meant the world to me. It was just completely overwhelmingly positive and I don't know if I've totally come down yet. So if the recap feels wonky, it's because todavia no tengo los pies en la tierra!

Kat- Welcome back! What an awesome experience and how wonderful your husband and mom were there in the audience. Totally understand if you're still floating on your cloud, as Dominga said about Cris. :)

Loved all the snogging. Just going to enjoy it and not worry about when it will end. Nice to see our main couple being all couply and stuff for a change.

The stink eye Adelina was giving Cande was hilarious, as was Padre silently pleading not to be left alone with her. I'm not ashamed to admit I laughed at Pru's hand on backside stains. Especially when the taxi driver caught sight of them and had to suppress his giggle.

I think the pun on Pato's (short for Patricio; duck) name is Ganso (goose), not Gato. I still haven't see the episode when Pato and Lola met, but I read the recap and comments. If it was like his conversation with Mel and Dominga I don't see the issue. Pati was using overly formal language instead of just saying things straight, and he couldn't understand some of the common sayings and words they were using. I didn't see it as an insult to their intelligence.

Gracias, Vivi! Yes, I agree, it's "Ganso." I swear I heard him saying something about building a nest and just tuned out the whole thing!

Pobre de Padre...that's got to be a gross feeling, knowing what Cande said and then hearing from Adelina that she took advantage of his coma.

I am really worried about Lola now that Sever has set his sights on her, and Mel just rattled off her whole schedule. Sever now knows exactly when she'll be coming home from work, alone, late at night. Yikes! I hope Pato decides he wants to walk her home every night.

Pato and Lola have the same crazy, kooky energy. Not sure if that makes them a perfect match, or if that would be just too much kookiness in one couple.

They're very cute together, but yes, that is a LOT of energy! I agree, I hope Pato wants to walk her home every night. I won't put it past Sev to make an attempt on her life, I just don't think I can stand to watch it! I don't even think I can stand to see him threatening her.

Wow, Kat, a big congratulations on your performance at Carnegie Hall, what an experience! Naturally we on the Patio are all VERY proud of you!

Okay to the episode: the recap was great, so detailed with all the delicious little snarky bits that make for such toothsome reading.

When I read your sentence about "Adelina should NOT leave him alone with his molester", at first I thought you meant a little gangster of the burrowing rodent variety... (and actually when Cande is in full harpy mode, she does get a bit rodenty looking around the mouth).

I love that Pato! So cute! But now Lola has a target on her back. Loved PJ's indescribable expression when he found out he had been kissed-while-unconscious. Will Cris and Ald tie the knot? Why is Renato back in DF? Why does Simoneta kiss Sev with Lola in the john? Where are Don Camilo and the canaries?

This episode felt like it was setting the scene for a lot of drama in different plot lines.
"Must see TV" (nods to Gringo).

J in Oregon

Kat - I ditto the congrats! Sounds like you guys rocked it in Carnegie. I'm glad you had family there to share in the moment.

Darn it, if you're not going to say anything about tomorrow, then I won't either...but I SOOO want to. Then, again, I'm sure we're all thinking it anyway...

I am so dense, I didn't even pick up on Sev planning something against Lola becuase of the schedule; I thought he looked annoyed that Mel was giving it to him. I thought he was going to try sugar first and then use the take-your-employee's-family-to-work trip to bring down a hammer. Now I'm worried about her too; those SL streets aren't always so well lit at night and even if he goes to DF tonight, there's always his proxy, Lardo, lurking about.

PJ's face was hilarious. Can padres lie to protect confessional secrets?

Pato's scene with Dom and Mel was adorable. I think he's so sweet. I can see him and Lola together in a way I can't see Emmanuel and Mari. If Silvia wasn't so...sharp? I don't know how to describe what I mean by that, but if she wasn't so that, I'd think she and E could make a go, but they don't feel of the same energy like Ducky and Dolores.

Poor Joaquin. Just poor, poor Joaquin.

yikes! in that last scene, Cande wassuch a harpy that I was surprised Cris didn't just leave her "con lapalabra in la boca." Man, she can go from 0 to 60 on the hysterics level in the blink of an eye. And he still thinks marrying Aldie asap is all going to work out?

Also, while the snogging is all well and good, I wonder how long it'll be before she inevitably FREAKS OUT if they go any further. Or would the show just not do that? And, good Lord, but how short was that skirt?! It was riding up for days!

Hellashelle- I'm sure that Cris did not mind at all that this was one of the very few days Aldonza chose to wear a skirt, and a tight one that kept riding up at that. They did look very cozy with her sitting on his lap.

I did laugh when Aldonza got all snippy about him staring at her chest, and he had to explain that he noticed she was wearing her scapular for the first time, showed his, and told her the story of how Dominga gave them matching ones the day they were baptized.

As for if Aldonza can do the deed with anyone, and much less Cris, with the memory of what Sever did to her still haunting her, I also have my doubts.

First off, how wonderful for you Kat!! Enjoy that afterglow for as long as it last, you deserve it.

And at the same time giving us a great recap. I missed a chunk of the 2nd half when the person who will be house/kitty sitting for me today came for the keys and kept talking, and talking, and talking......I mean, gees, didn't he see the TN going on the TV.

Seriously, off to Chicago with one of my sons for a birthday weekend (his was yesterday, mine is next week) so I'll miss tonight's episode. Will be doing some catching up on Monday afternoon!!

Did see Pato and my cuddle genes were coming out last night. He's such a clueless sweetie. We talk about Lola having a target on her back...but honestly, I'm now more worried for the Expendable boyfriend behind door No. 2. Sev goes after her, who may step in to save her? Go to happy place, go to happy place....

Cris is far too happy for this to last. Will he cave and go with Sev for the day with the horses, thus postponing the wedding? And Padre most likely will stick to his guns of posting the bans three times? Civil always seems to be the marriage that can be messed with in TN's, so I'm not getting excited about that. Will they have Allie and Cris do the horizontal at this point....the possibilities are endless.

I want Ren in town and I want him now. Stupid sitting on the couch needs to end. And Flavia can just leave my screen any time now.

I took the PJ grabbing his hand back as almost reacting to the feeling of Cande touching his hands...she the same. These two kids just fascinate me.

Have a great weekend all. I'll check in if I can on the phone to see what you all are chatting about!

Daisynjay

Thank you Diva and welcome home!! Thank you so much for this terrific recap! I gotta lot to say, want to get this in before work!

Joaquin needs to take Flavia's chin in his hands and direct her eyes to his, smile and say, "Flavia, you're so ugly when you get angry!" and then walk away. Except a potted plant would probably accelerate his exit through the door. We'll see what she says when she finds out her "no good husband" met a Lawyer at the "cualquiera's" house who can help them with their land problem.

Irma is worried about Lardo and the stench of his bedroom. Say whaaat? That grown, stankin-assed bastard needs to rise up outta there and get his own damned place to live! Did she clean up his room? Unh unh! Lila don't play that! Irma and Uriel deserve sonny boy!

Pru is from Jupiter, she just gets stupider. No, I'm not trying to channel my friend, Tofie, this is just the kind of childish comment Pru deserves. Sucking face in public with that useless p.o.s. at his father's auto mechanic shop, or anywhere is big time beanie worthy! Not that she would suck face or have an affair. It's just SL is supposed to be sooo harsh and especially where adultery is concerned and here we have she who is NOT without guilt having cast the first stone at Aldonza carrying on like this. Okay, whatever. Pru is a skank with or without going all the way. Can't wait for Aldonza to bust HER!

Wow! Adelina told Padre about the stolen kiss quicker than I thunked! The way Cande pressed that rosary into Padre's hand and the stolen kiss show she and Sev are a good match: they both violate others' space and intimacy. Given enough time, would Cande have tried to steal even more from Padre? Another shameless skank!

Since I'm making pronouncements, I don't know if I'll call her stupid like Sev did but What was Simoneta thinking for crying out loud?! Jeesh! What a bone-headed move! Poor Lola did look disappointed in both of them and embarrassed/angry for having been put in this position. Well, Dom, Donnie and Irma tried to warn her! I'm nervous for Lola, too!

So they have Eman tell Sev that Cris isn't going with him which is SO out of character for Eman. It's just a plot device to ramp up Sev's anger at Cris so he can be like a fiery furnace when he finds out about Cris and Donnie! Doh!

No Privacy Theater. Indeed! Criminey! Cris is a grown man! What is with this walking in on him at any time and on top of that she comes in with the 3rd degree and shrieking like a banshee! Cris ought to just hang a bare bulb lamp over his desk to complete the ambiance!

"To be honest with you, mom, it's been a while now that I wouldn't put my hands in the fire for him…or you."

OUCH!

But my favorite event of all was KISS 3.0, 4.0.....X 10 to the nth power! Oh my gosh, I just LOVED Cris's twitter-patted weakness as Aldonza covered him with kisses! My goodness, the girl couldn't get enough! Reminds me of this quick little clip:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHgauNAR5pY or listen to the lyrics to this beautiful piece by Hal Ketchum. No, really, click on it and listen to the words and the beautiful singing and awesome guitar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K36JfrXknVQ

Thanks again, Diva! See y'all later!

Oh! Diva, I am SO happy you had such an awesome experience at Carnegie and that Mr. 5ft. and your Mommy was able to share it with you. That is so very special! Is anyone going to post you all's performance? Wonderful, just absolutely wonderful! Congratulations!

:D

Welcome back!! How wonderful that you got to perform at Carnegie Hall! But I am selfishly glad we have you back on our patio safe and sound.

Loved the recap! Thank you! That horse was definitely a gorgeous SCENE STEALER!

Padre J desperately tries to telegraph that Adelina should NOT leave him alone with his molester, but Adelina misses his clearly mouthing "no."

I am really convinced that the Padre never had a clue Cande loved him and I'm also convinced that Cande is delusional and a stalker.

I really wish they would deal with Aldonza's rape a little more. I want to see Cris find out and I want the two of them to deal with it. If we just get a few scenes toward the end where she cries and he hugs her and says "we'll get through this together" and then they are walking down the aisle, I will be disappointed.

And I hate to say it, but Cris is starting to give me a Pablo Martinez Negrete vibe. Grand gestures=problem solving. If he falls for what I saw in the avances, I might be done with him for a while.

Right now I think Pato/Ganso is the better choice for Lola. She's a spitfire and Em is a milquetoast.

Daisynjay-Have a safe trip! Enjoy!

I don't think the previews are what's going to stop Cris; he's been very clear abt trying to seperate himself from his dad and Aldonza from her mom. I"m more worried about what he might assume about Aldonza's father. That would stop him cold.

Ugh. I didn't even think about that hellashelle! I swear I wouldn't understand half of what I'm supposed to if it weren't for the patio.

With nods to J I say that I am a little pear half floating in jello.

Sara: Candela pulled an Araceli on Padre 2.0 ?

Is it possible that he's actually Cris' father ?

This comment has been removed by the author.

Steve, I think you forgot to thank Kat for the splendid recap. She's been travelling and is still recovering from the trip and a oerformance, but she took the time to recap for us. NOW THANK HER.

Also, I don't know who Araceli is so your comment makes no sense to me.

We've talked the Padre is Cris's dad theme to death and pretty much ruled that out. Stop suggesting it.

I"m more worried about what he might assume about Aldonza's father.

Okay, move over in the jellos because I don't know what this means. Could you expand, please and thanks!

:D

Kat - Thank you for the recap!!! What a wonderful experience you've had. I'll bet you had a hard time sleeping from the excitement.

Hellashelle - " I"m more worried about what (Cris) might assume about Aldonza's father. That would stop him cold."
I haven't watched my recording yet. What do you mean? I didn't think Raymundo had any negative stuff associated with him. Thnx.

Good morning all!

First off: oops...I also forgot to say thank you to Kat! THANK YOU KAT!!!!

Also, on Lardo:

He complains about his horrible hangover and how his parents don't understand him, waaaaaaaah! Ugh! The way he whines after every comment Irma makes is just mind bogglingly annoying. I think she might have just started caving to this when he was a kid, especially since he and Mari are so close in age. (I bet he was all "you love the baby more than me!" He is totally channeling Val's old character from PSMA.)

PS: Kat, can I expand on my thoughts if they involve the avances?

I'll expand and take the bullet ;-)

IMO Cris could take the information that Sev and Rob were lovers to mean that Sev might be Aldonza's dad. Therefore they are half siblings.

Yeah, welcome back and you have cause to be proud.

"encounters a Mari-in-the-box" hehe

"I almost wish he would tell her, with allllllll the snoggy details, just to watch her eyeballs pop out of her head"

Hmmm, wonder why Aldonza hasn't told her bff, Renato, of her marriage plans and maybe he won't be the last person she blows kisses too at night anymore.

Hellashelle, I also ran the Em and Silvia pairing through my head cause it should be Pat and Lola and a big no to anything Mari.

DnJ, the two crazy kids, PJ and Cande, fascinate me too and would love his dour mask and her icy, shrewish protective shell to drop so we can see what lurks behind.

Pru - greasy sleazy

PJ - it's me I don't trust

Cande - "When I think about you I touch myself" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv-34w8kGPM

Abelardo - "Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo, so don't tell me I've nothing to do"

Simoneta - "thank you sir may I have another"

Severiano - need two hands to tie so many loose ends

Pato - no dammit, who's on first

Aldonza - yeah right, and tofie was gonna marry David Cassidy too

Great entry for Abelardo!

ITA! Great 'Lardo entry, tofie!!! That made my day.

Lila - Thanks for the Hal Ketchum link. I'm not a country music person, despite living in Nashville for almost 50 years, but am slowly leaning that way thanks to the "Nashville" TV show/telenovela. I like that song and will have to look into him. That particular song reminds me of the Chris Isaak type sound (I'm a fan).

Gracias, J in O! Maybe it's the hair pulling Cande's face back that gives her that rodentlike quality :) I think the canaries are going to be a little like Principe--the production has failed to anticipate how much we need to see them to reassure ourselves that they're still alive. Just give us a glimpse every episode, that's all we ask.

Gracias, hellashelle! You know, I think Padre has lied once already--he didn't tell Aldonza the real reason Sev was threatening him. And that wasn't even confessional-related...unless we think that what he's protecting is Adelina's non-confession that he said he would treat like a confession...oh boy, I think my head is spinning from that convoluted logic!

Vivi, frankly, every time I see anyone sitting on that bed, I'm mentally screaming. I hope they changed out the mattress at the very least. Called in a curandera to dispel the mala vibra. Got Padre J to bless the room. Something. Anything!

Gracias, Daisynjay! Happy birthdays to you and your son and enjoy your trip! I'm with you on Flavia. I don't know what Joaquin sees/saw in her when he keeps saying she's always been like this.

Gracias, Lila! I almost think it would be a relief if Flavia redirected some of her stupid jealousy at Silvia for a while. Give Adelina a break. Plus it would be amusing to see Silvia's reaction!

I agree, Emmanuel opening his mouth is a plot device. So help me, if I have to hear "We're getting married, I just have to take this one trip with my dad first, come on baby, don't be mad!"

3rd Degree Banshee = Cande's Lucha Libre name.

Unfortunately, the performance won't be posted anywhere due to licensing issues. I'll have to just keep it in my heart :)

"3rd Degree Banshee = Cande's Lucha Libre name"

LOL! Kat, did you see Jane the Virgin this week?

I found myself singing Te Prometi as I walked to work this morning. Heard the violins swelling and everything. I am going on a date tonight, but I can guarantee Mijares won't pop up singing, and there won't be any passionate snogging at a waterfall. ;-)

Anyone else notice that Cris' speech pattern is closer to Dominga/Melesio/Lola's, than it is to his parents'? Especially when he's speaking to one of the three of them.

Gracias, Sara! I want to know more about this horse! Has he been on other shows before? Does he know what the cameras mean? What's his career ambition?

I'm with you on the Padre/Cande situation. Unless they had some kind of moment of passion back in their youth while he was so drunk he doesn't remember, there is just no way it goes down like this. He greeted her with "Do you remember me?" for pete's sake! Unless he was saying that out of low self-esteem?

Also with you on Cris turning into a mini Pablo. He acts like getting married will fix everything and I'm glad Dominga pointed out that it's going to get worse before it gets better, but I don't think he listened to her.

Gracias, doris! I will say say nothing about the avances. Y'all go for it. But, no, you are correct--no one had anything less than a positive view of Raymundo. If he'd been rich, he could have given Sev a run for his money in the "Most Respected Man In Town" race.

What? Nooooo....they can't play the fake incest card! Then what comes next: the fake DNA results. Please no!

J in Oooooo.....

If we, the audience, have been wondering from Day 1 how Roberta knew that almost newborn Aldonza wasn't Sever's kid when they had been carrying on for a while, then surely when the affair is revealed some of our SL characters are going to be asking the same question. We never got an answer. You know conclusions are going to be drawn, or at least some doubts and questions are going to come up.

Lol, gracias, HellaShelle :) I bet you're right about Lardo. He so gives me that vibe. And from a practical standpoint, if this is working for him, he has no motivation to cut it out.

I just think the avances are giving away our peak moment from the next show, so I don't want to go there. But if you want to go there, then go for it. I'm going to pretend I have my good earplugs in :)

Gracias, tofie! Your Divinyl's reference for Cande is inspired. Annnnnd, you're not wrong!

doris, Nashville sure as heck IS a telenovela, isn't it?! I will say no more. I'm not caught up there yet. Telenovelas and Nashville have been one of my main sources for new music lately. Listening to the radio just doesn't do it for me--they're still playing the same 20 songs on repeat.

Vivi, I haven't seen this week's JtV yet, but I think I know where you're going with that and I'm looking forward to seeing it!

Sara: Araceli is from Hasta El Fin Del Mundo!

Second, I'd like to thank Kat for the recap!

Thanks 5Ft for the great recap and I'm very happy for your chance to play at Carnegie.

Adelina knows that Sev isn't Aldonza's father, so I hope that if that is what is planned, then Adelina can set the record straight. But if Cande insinuates this to Cris but insist he not tell her, and he listens to mommy, then that will be a big problem.

Gracias, cathyx! Just in general, Cris listening to mommy is a big problem. I didn't entirely buy his saying he wouldn't put his hands in the fire for either of his parents. It came off more like he was trying to convince himself.

A gray , chilly, rainy day here, but your recap brightened my morning, Kat. Gracias.

Congratulations on performing at Carnegie. What a thrill it must have been, and I can imagine how proud your mother and Mr. 5ft.were to watch you on stage. Brava! Did you sing ?

Well, will Cris and AL actually marry in haste ? If so, I hope that they will not be leisurely repenting. If they do manage a quickie ceremony, Sev and Candy are going to have birds. I am a bit confounded at AL making such change in attitude and seeming so unconcerned about the big mess that she is in regarding her apartment being burned down and the lawsuit pending. I thought that Renato's sudden windfall was going to bail her out of her financial mess, but I do not expect that to happen if she is Mrs. Cris.

Gracias, Susanlynn! Yes, with The Phoenix Symphony Chorus.

I don't expect Cris and Al to be on the same page long enough to pull off an actual wedding. They're already NOT on the same page with him talking about doing it right away and her talking about setting a date. Neither one is being very realistic. Plus, they're both acting like if they don't do this now (which I think might have been Aldonza's motivation) it's never going to happen. Which is silly. As long as neither one is dead yet, there's always a chance, all threats and "never"s aside.

Thank you Kat for the great recap.

I hope your performance at Carnegie Hall shows up on YouTube. You are a lady of many, many talents.

I doubt if this TN will delve into the incest card. Cande simply would not allow it.

What in the world does Simoneta see in Sev? She really needs to have a chat with Cande about what she is getting herself into.

I doubt if anything will happen to Lola, because again, Cande simply would not allow it. Now Simoneta is in his cross-hairs.

Love Pato! He surely won over Mel.

I bet Pru is having fun with her role, she has great facial expressions. The hand prints on her dress were a hoot. Lila, yes, Pru is from Jupiter for sure.

Again, probre PJ. Maybe he needs to ask for transfer to another parish far, far away from Cande.

Rosemary Primera

Rosemary, I think Cande will do whatever it takes to keep Cris from marrying Aldonza.

Gracias, Rosemary Primera! Pato is such a sweetheart, I hope we get to see him hooked up with somebody by the end.

cathyx, I agree. Her problem is she has a very skewed idea of what that means. So far everything she's tried that she's 100% sure will drive them apart just ends up shoving Cris in her direction instead.

I'm betting that Sev will only threaten Lola. It would be very easy to tell her that if she ever says anything to anyone, her grandparents will get fired.

Doris...I am a Chris Izaak fan, too.I like the pompadour , and when he sings those ballads , I feel like my heart is being squeezed.

I think it depends on how much he knows about her previous arguments with Cande and Cande's arguments with Dominga. I guess my fear is that if she either says to his face "That's not going to happen" or he knows that both she and her grandmother have stood up to Cande and said "Go ahead, fire me!" and nothing came of it, he'll go straight for either action or threatening something worse than just firing.

Diva, thank you and welcome back! Congrats on your exciting performance and I am so happy you were performing in front the most important audience in the world, your family. I know Mr. 5ft and your mother are bursting with pride!! I wish I could have been there.

I am really on edge now the Ser has zeroed in on Lola. And I am sure the shit is going to hit the fan when Sim's relationship comes to light to all. I am prepared for a lot of yada, yada, from Aldonza and Chris, but am more interested our good old Pru and Tomas. Loved Pru's bug eyed reaction when she saw Sr. Tomas' father approaching the snoggin' couple. PRICELESS!!

Best TN I have seen in a LONG time.

Have been busy and have not had too much time on the patio, but a belated Thank You for the recaps of the last several day. GRACIS.

Gracias, emeraldrose! This is indeed the best TN we've had in a long time! I'm always looking forward to the next episode.

Cris doesn't know his daddy and Aldonza's mama were an item, right? I thought that was the reference Cande was making to Cris.

For all the millions of times he or Aldonza has asked "What the hell is the deal with all this hate, where is it coming from?" Nope. Nobody has ever said anything to them about the affair.

The official story...or I guess I should say, the official lie!...has always been "It's about the land."

Have to chime in with emeraldrose and Kat. This show, QA and AcT make me enjoy TNs again. I look forward to every episode.

Ok. Yesterday was episode 124 in Mexico. There are 16 days until the FIN in Mexico. Taking weekends into account, there should only be about 140ish episodes (check my math please.)

Soooo still a while until everything is resolved, but not an eternity.

That doesn't sound so bad. There's a lot to resolve.

I don't think they'll actually play the incest card, via PJ or Sev as Aldonza's dad. But all they need is a suspicion (and possibly a faked DNA test) and Cris will be flogging himself for the next 80-90 episodes while it's Aldonza's turn to ask "wth just happened" (because I just don't think Cris would voice those findings, fake though they will be, to anyone).

They better delve more into the candy house!

I missed last nights episode because I'm still dealing with a sick sister and lack of sleep that suddenly hit me like a ton of bricks! I read the recap to catch up, and it was awesome, you guys have been on fire!

I have not read all the comments yet but had to comment on Patricio- the joke is everyone calls him Pato (Spanish for duck) but Lola got it wrong and started calling him Ganzo (Spanish for penguin, I think), at any rate I think he is adorable!

Eli- So sorry to hear about your sister. Remind me, is it Lupus she struggles with? All the best to her.

Ganso is goose (male= gander). But here are other Spanish meanings for "ganso" which further expands the play on words:

Goose (m. Gander)
Idiot/fool
Tall/big
Handsome/dishy

So Lola could mean any and all of these things when she refers to Pato as Ganso. :)

Gracias, Eli! He is a cutie, and it keeps some of his over-the-top flattery and poetic talk from being annoying.

I also noticed that Lola really does call Aldonza "amiba" (amoeba?) like she said to Pato and/or Renato once...I thought she had goofed her words and was making an excuse, but I heard it again the other night. Which begs the question, are we meant to think that Lola is making these little word switches deliberately because she's a clever gal who likes a good pun...or is this the show's shorthand for "country bumpkin"? Whatever their intention, I prefer to think she's being clever.

Kat- Lola has called Aldondza amiba from the beginning. Since she clearly knows the word amiga, I'm pretty sure she just likes to play with words. She does it a lot, and sometimes both Aldonza and Cris looks at her all confused, having to stop for a second to get her meaning.

I never caught it until the other night. I think my ear just heard what it expected to hear...now I'm going to be hearing it every time! I like that it's this little personality quirk of hers.

Also, I object every time Patricio tells someone that Lola calls him "Ganso" and they can call him that, too...No, damnit! That's HER private pet name for you! Don't be giving other people permission! Especially not la Mari esa!

Watched the episode. Oh my, I just loved that convo between Pato/Dominga&Mel.

Lola needs a bodyguard, after catching Sev & Simoneta besandose. Yipes! And how dare Sev chew out Simoneta. It takes two to kiss.

Prudencia, Prudencia, those handprints on your derriere. . . Oh my . . .

Thanks for that info, Vivi!

"Also, I object every time Patricio tells someone that Lola calls him "Ganso" and they can call him that, too...No, damnit! That's HER private pet name for you! Don't be giving other people permission! Especially not la Mari esa!"

WORD. WORD. WORD!!

The actor playing Patrico was on LFDD and I liked him, but I'm liking him even more in the light comedy role.

doris, it was creepy watching Simoneta grovel to Sev after he hit her. It makes me wonder if this really is all about Sev or if she's maybe using him to get to Lola? And how long has that been going on? Or has she just suffered so much of his abuse that she really doesn't think she can live without him? Or "all of the above."

Vivi-yes it's lupus, this week she has gotten two blood transfusions but her levels are still low :/

OMG, I totally messed up the Ganzo thing, I'm a bad bad Mexican

Diva - perhaps "all of the above". Who knows. I was creeped out when I read in the recap (no time to watch that episode) that she gave a gold bracelet to Lola. Seriously, it is not appropriate for Lola to accept something like that from a stranger she recently met.
Dominga would freak out.

Eli - I am so sorry about your sister! I know someone who suffered horribly with lupus, ages ago, but she finally got through it and is either cured or in remission (I cannot recall if it is curable). There is hope. (((Hugs)))

So sorry, Eli. :( Me, my mom, and aunt all have mild discoid Lupus, but a cousin has many more severe problems like your sister.

Eli--hope that your sister starts feeling better soon!

J in O

Doris, thank you for your kind thoughts, sadly there is no cure for lupus, it can go into remission but everyone is different and not everyone gets lucky, my sisters lupus has been active since she was 13 (22 now)and she has not gotten any relief, sadly a lot of the treatments we have tried ended up not working.

Vivi-how does discoid get diagnosed?

Cannot wait to see what Candela's big secret tonight!

Something tells me she's hiding something.

Eli: My wife, Alicia & I will be praying for your sister.

Eli- It can be hard to diagnose because it can mimic so many other things. They look at the combination of symptoms (fatigue, hair loss, swollen painful joints, rashes), family history, and blood tests, and even then it's often a process of elimination. I hope your sister goes into remission. My mother and aunt have, and my cousin and I have less frequent flare ups now. Time can definitely be a friend. Really hope that is the case for your sister.

Vivi- I hope that's the case, we are just worried because it keeps hurting her kidneys.

Steve, thank you.

Eli - glad you did get some rest, even if it hit you like a ton of bricks. Hope you get to really rest and relax once your sister stabilizes. Smh- Nothing like a flare to throw all of your plans and routines into total chaos, so wishing you a nice, lazy day of relaxed TN catch up soon :)

I like to think that Lola and Aldonza have been close bffs since they lisped and had hold over baby-talk. In my mind, Lola really did pronounce aminga "amibga" back when they became friends because it was practically when they were just learning how to talk, in Sunday school child care or something.

Speaking of which, that Lulu comment about the first padre was a little weird, as someone mentioned. Was she even alive when Sev strangled him?

Eli, prayers and positive vibes to your Sister and to all of you who love and support her. Dang it all, derned Lupus! :/

Please take care of yourself: when a loved one is ill it is physically and emotionally taxing for us as well!

Hellashelle-yep flares mess everything up!

Lulu looks way way too young to remember the previous padre.

Eli..add me to the list of wellwishers. Remember to care for yourself , too. Caregivers are under a lot of stress. Hope that your sister feels better soon.

Thank you Susanlynn!

Gosh, Eli two transfusions in a week, poor girl, wish her well, you too.

Perhaps Padre Sixto was so loved that he's part of SL legend. It's kind of like people expect the local priests to live forever and to be around forever (and Padre Sixto looked like he has been around a VERY LONG time). Perhaps the caretaker lady for Padre Sixto was Lulu's grandma or something and always told her about him. Lulu still looks like a teen.

I don't know why, but I had it in my head that Lulu is Doña Lourdes' daughter.

Vivi & Eli--All the best to both of you and your families. Maybe someday there will be, maybe not a cure, but something to put the symptoms into permanent remission.

My heart goes out to everyone who must deal with debilitating or chronic diseases and their families.

Vivi--I was going to say the exact same thing you did about Padre Sixto. They didn't have to be alive then to know about his "fatal heart attack" in church.

Diva--I think you are onto something.

Kat--I momentarily forgot my manners when the discussion of lupus began. I'm so glad you are back giving us your all. You are such a creative writer and deliver a product worthy of publication (not just on a Caray blog, even though for us it's a treat to have you).
